Suspiciously shaped pigeons:

[ID: Three white Brunner Pouters, a breed of fancy pigeon, with one hidden behind with only a leg visible, and another partly visible at the right edge.

They have huge, round crops (an expandable pouch at the throat, for storing food before it enters the stomach), and smooth slender bodies with featherless, vivid red lower legs and feet. They look simultaneously elegant and comical. END ID.]

Alright gang because I’m normal and sane I’ve decided to mesh two interests of mine into a sort of rain code pigeon au.

update: this has now been dubbed the rain coo’d AU

Maybe if I get time I’ll doodle some of this. Who knows. Anyways onto the show.

(this does have spoilers for the entire game tread carefully)

What pigeons would these freaks be? Nocturnal detective agency edition:

Yakou: the pigeon™️. A blue bar (or check) Rock dove that we all know and love. Knows these streets but also scuttles away from danger. Seen as dirty, or ignored by a lot of people, but very cool when u get to know him. Also his bed: bare minimum.

Halara: racing homer. Specifically some variety of splash (maybe over a t-check blue) as it matches the values of their hair and coat. Normal ish pigeon but stronger, faster, and generally upgraded in every way.

Desuhiko: horseman thief pouter pigeon. A breed of pigeon bred specifically to lure other pouters away from their lofts to steal them (though the sport isn’t active nowadays). I have these, and they’re incredibly like Desuhiko. They’re loud, they stomp around, they do anything they can to draw attention to themselves.

Vivia: capuchin pigeon. Looks pretty enough to steal the show, but tends to avoid action. They don’t fly much and tend to just loaf around looking interesting. They look like the type of bird who’d be haunted by ghosts.

Fubuki: Lahore pigeon. Specifically a lavender one. These are one of the most common fancy pigeons to keep as pets, why? Because they’re very sweet, easy to get along with, and still conventionally pretty in a way that appeals to the majority. Looks aside they’re absolute sweethearts of birds, and very laid back.

Yuma: Ice Pigeon. Small bird, big boots, and the distinct pale color they have just looks like a Yuma if he were a pigeon. The dark eyes and pale feathers give them something of a baby face, even as adults.

Bonus

Makoto: also an ice pigeon. He’d be the same as Yuma, but I think he’d have smaller to no leg muffs. For his mask I think he’d wear a pigeon equivalent of one of those falcon hoods.

Might do the peacekeepers next. I’ve had one in mind for Yomi since I came up with this idea.

Yoh always turns away from him. He pouts. He resists.

Which allows his guy to be aggressive and mean to Yoh.

Edwardian Fashion: The S-Bend Silhouette

The curious S-shape figure of the Edwardian woman was achieved by wearing an undergarment invented by a physician in the later part of the 19th century and marketed as a "health corset". The S-bend or straight-front corset sat lower on the body and was characterized by a rounded, forward leaning torso with hips pushed back. It was thought that because this new corset, unlike the Victorian styles, alleviated pressure on the abdomen and internal organs, that it promoted a healthier posture. Unlike many fashion trends in history, it would take several years for the S-bend to become a fashion statement unrelated to health concerns, reaching the height of its popularity between 1904-1905. It was coloquely referred to as the "pouter pigeon" silhouette.

Fashion illustrations tended to exaggerate the S-bend silhouette. It's likely that many women achieved a less severe shape while still maintaining a fashionable appearance.

Here’s a deflated male Horseman Cropper! Are there any special genetics behind the cool silvery look on some “mealy” bars vs the ones that just have a fully red neck?

It is *so* hard to find photos of this breed not blowing!

Do you mind if I add it to the library?

I am not sure what the correlation is in regards to how much red shows on the neck of an Ash Red Bar. Hemizygous hens, in my records, have a fully red neck, but they also have a bunch of modifier genes like sooty, dirty, and smoky that intensify color. Spread Ash Reds (Lavender) often still have a hint of the bar, but no red on their neck.

Honestly, I don't know.

Why are English Pouter pigeons Like That? I know scientifically its because they got screwed over by humans selective breeding like Pugs but why? The poor things look like if Sid from Toy Story took a pigeon, strapped barbie legs onto it, and then made it swallow a balloon. How is this beneficial in any way?
