Why are English Pouter pigeons Like That? I know scientifically its because they got screwed over by humans selective breeding like Pugs but why? The poor things look like if Sid from Toy Story took a pigeon, strapped barbie legs onto it, and then made it swallow a balloon. How is this beneficial in any way?

So remember when I said I was drawing different kinds of pigeons as people?

Well, I finished the lineart for the first two, being and English Pouter and a Victoria Crowned.

I was making their designs and of course my brain went to "what if they were gay pigeon men?", because if swans can be gay, why can't they?

Then my English class was reading The Great Gatsby which got me more interested in the 1920s than history class did, so I went "what if they were gay pigeon men in the 1920s?"

It also gave me a bit of an idea for references to look up for the outfits, so it did help.

No names for them yet, but basic ideas I have for them are set in stone.

English Pouter boy here has a British accent because why not, and is a working class guy. If he's flustered the crop (or pouter, hence "English Pouter") around his neck inflates like the actual pigeon

Victoria Crowned is more upper-class, probably coming from a rich family who's egging him on to marry some girl of a similar social status. But of course if you read the stuff before you'll know he's not interested. Being a ground pigeon he doesn't fly much (Victoria Crowned pigeons can fly, but they mostly stay on the ground). And he's tall, being the largest pigeon in the world (species in general).

They definitely met at a masquerade and civil ball (usually called drag balls) with Vic being in drag. He's really good at it too, and that's when this random other guy caught his eye (English Pouter, of course). American setting btw
