My Year of (Educational) Podcasts
I spent 12,000 minutes this year listening to podcasts according to Spotify. No, I do not listen to alphamale or girlboss or true crime podcasts– I mostly listen to history, philosophy, and literature podcasts i.e. educational podcasts. Here are 12 fun, well-executed podcasts I’d recommend if you’d like to learn more about your favourite (Humanities and Social Sciences) topics.
Betwixt The Sheets: The History of Sex, Scandal & Society. This is a podcast about the history of sex and sexuality. The podcast pays special attention to overlooked aspects of queer history, pop culture, and cultural superstitions. The love life and sex life of historical and artistic figures are also discussed with historians.
Dan Snow's History Hit. This podcasts discusses the most exciting and culturally relevant historical events and figures with expert panel guests. Clears up historical misconceptions and deals with the most interesting topics in an engaging way.
Occult Confessions. This podcast is about the history of the occult, witches, folklore, magicians, and conspiracies. There are discussions of folklore, religious history, and cults. The themes are dark but quite fascinating.
Intelligence Squared. This podcast is centered on cultural and academic debates and deep-dives into polemical topics among top UK experts. I really enjoy their episodes about writers, art, and artists.
The History of Literature. This is about, well, the history of literature i.e. the contexts that created impressive writers, literary movements, and literary works. It also debates and critically discusses classic works.
The Korea File. Y'all know I love kpop and kdramas and by extension, am quite fascinated by Korean culture and society given how much I interact with Korean media. This podcast, produced by a couple of Korean guys, critically explores Korean media, culture, society, and history.
Not Just the Tudors. A fun history podcast that doesn't only cover English Tudor history, but definitely covers a whole damn lot of English Tudor history. Mainly focuses on 13th-17th century global history.
Classical Stuff You Should Know. A podcast about the classical world, the Western Canon, and world philosophy. Discussions of the classics are in conversational layman terms. Topics not restricted to the Graeco-Roman world.
Why Theory. A podcast that uses philosophy and psychological theory to examine culture, history, art and human behavior. Lots of pertinent contemporary social topics are discussed.
Brown History. A podcast about South Asia and "brown" Asian demographics. A wide range of topics, from Pakistani history to the Indian diaspora to Afghan migration to the colonization of India by Great Britain.
Philosophize This!. This podcast covers philosophy, philosophies, and philosophers. I highly recommend listening to the episodes in order as much as possible. Breaks down the complex philosophical ideas using simple terms.
The Thing About Austen. This is a podcast about the world of Jane Austen from the time period to the people to the culture which influenced her big literary hits. Hits that sweet spot between literature and history in a creative way. Recommend for all the Pride and Prejudice (2005) fanatics.
#i could make at least three more of these lmfao#if you have an oddly specific podcast rec request hmu#podcasts#spotify#postcast recs#podcast recommendations#podcast reviews#podcasting#history#literature#books and literature#book blog#nerdy#studyblr#learning#education#light academia#light academia blog#philosophy

Yes!! The episode of that podcast was such a nice one to listen to and the black cat comment definitely made me laugh.
And it does fit Corvus in a way!
I think at most we’ve seen him interact with background guards or standing in a corner somewhere but generally he doesn’t seem to enjoy parties and prefers the company of the forest over people.
But either way he makes an exception for Soren not out of disgruntlement but because he actual enjoys his company and being around him.
“Who is doing the accepting here, in your eyes?”
“I think its Corvus.”
“It’s Corvus being like ‘Oh. I actually like this person.’”
“It makes me happy to see that, you know Soren, who is this person who has been wanting nothing more than to be loved and accepted for who he is, like who he actually is.”
“Not just because he’s a big, tough, strong crown guard.”
“Not just because he’s funny”
“But for who he actually is, which Corvus sees.”
-Jesse Inocalla on Acceptance in Love, War, and Mushrooms
#jelly tarts#i hope the postcast covers more episodes cause i would love to hear their takes on ep 6 and 8#platonic romantic secret third thing idc#they are great together and balance each other out well

https://x.com/marcmaron/status/1843009639748964632?t=Pm1LPxzHxY9a9kYoVmluAQ&s=19 this podcast is out and damn, it's so interesting. I felt like Seb said things that he never mentioned before. For example, his dad was like a hero back in his birth city because he helped many people leave the country illegally when communism was still happening. He also said his dad left the country in the mid 80s (he was a 3 yo baby!! :() and then talked about how his mom left after the romanian revolution and then she came back for him a year later so he has abandonment issues (I was about to cry!). When he was asked if he lives in NYC, he said that now is a bi coastal thing between NYC and LA. Talked about how he's had people "fans" at his place in NYC. Basically confirming again that he's not coming back to Instagram because basically he doesn't wanna know about people who assume things about him when they don't know him at all. He said his mom cooks Romanian food on Christmas and that she thinks he's aging quickly (I ugly laughed) but she's super proud of him. He also said "God bless she is" because he had just said that both his dad and step dad are gone now. He said he doesn't have family or friends in Romania any longer because they're all gone. He talked about his step dad too and he said he was a big important part of his life :3 talked about how he started to work when he was in high school. About his mom having a heavy Romanian accent and he still knows the language because she always speaks to him in Romanian. And of course he spoke about his job in the apprentice and a different man. A really good podcast, I recommend it 🙂↕️
Aaahhh thank you so much for this, darling!! I am bad at keeping up with interviews and I particularly struggle with podcasts, but I do want to know every thing Sebastian has ever said, so this is super nice to read, thank you!! I hope I'll get around to it sometime, but if not, at least now I've got this 🫶🏼
Some of these things are familiar or not surprising, but you're right, a lot of this he's rarely or never talled about before 🥺 Everything he said about his parents, my goodness ❤️ My heart goes out to him so much, I'm so sorry he had to lose two father figures, but I'm so glad he still has his mom and they're as close as ever! And I think it's incredibly brave and important that he speaks so openly both about his difficult youth and about his views on social media and privacy. We love a man who never forgets where he came from, or what matters and what doesn't! I admire him so, so much 💘
Linking the postcast here, for anyone who wnats to give it a listen!

Why don't you care for/dislike Rogues the Postcast? /gen /nm
Sorry for the late answer bestie, been busy with work LMAO
I'll give a bit of a general trigger warning, there's gonna be mentions of abelism as well as sexual assault and homophobia.
It's really hard for me to really begin and where to start with my issues with the series, I'm very passionate on the topic of mental illness and abelism and I have close friends who just HATE this series with how it promote these abelist ideas and jokes and it makes me very emotional. It's very personal for me, it devastates me to see that codot (hopefully unknowingly) promotes these stigmas that effect my friends, myself (self diagnosed though mind you) and other people who suffer from illnesses like DID, psychosis, schizophrenia, ect.
Let's look at scarecrow first. Obviously, he's portrayed to have an 'evil alter' that in it of itself is an abelist stereotype towards DID. You can have villains have DID of course i mean you can literally look at twoface or the ventriloquist! But what separates those two from scarecrow is that those two have always been bad people, excluding their illnesses. (Of course ventriloquist is questionable as an example as in some continuities he's shown to be possessed but I'm not getting into that)
Oh but that's just the thing- apparently Jon doesn't have DID (I was told this by a friend) and so that automatically fixes that issue right? It's not like there's been other illnesses that's been villainised to have 'evil alters' or 'evil personalities' right? /s /lh /nm
Ok but no like seriously, that doesn't fix the issue like at all. You can't just blatantly write an abelist stereotype and turn around and say "actually he doesn't have that" like you still wrote it. You wrote that into your canon you can't just go back and rewrite that to be better.
I also have issues with Jon's character in general. He's incredibly out of character but I'll get to that in a lil bit.
Another character that has abelist writing is Jervis. From what I've read of transcripts and what I've heard from Friends who've read the transcripts/listened to the podcast it's clear that Jervis is written to have (or implied to have) something along the lines of psychosis or schizophrenia (or something similar) and while that's not inherently bad the fact it's written that he constantly hears 'the voices' and that he's constantly dissociating to think properly (think like how you see 'insane' people swing back and forth on the floor mumbling nonsense) and bestie that's not how that shit works! If I remember right to he literally admits to shitting and pissing in his cell in arkham and???? That's just gross????? Don't get me wrong arkham has continously been a horrible place so I'm not exactly surprised but also like??? That's still so gross and incredibly out of character??
And listen, I'm not trying to dictate on how people suffer from their own illnesses and stuff. But I just, I find it so horribly written? I'll use myself as an example. Personally (which I genuinely hate having to talk about) I do occasionally hear voices to varying degrees and idk bestie. I just, it's hard to explain and again this is personal but its just gross for me. And I acknowledge my situation is different from other people, but it's still weird to see in my opinion. I have a friend who can vocalize these issues way better to me but tldr it just pushes abelist ideas.
There's a two other things about Jervis I feel is important to point out. One I'm way more able to vocalize my issues on.
Theres a moment in the podcast where Jon and Jervis question whether harley is a natural blonde and Jon suggest that Jervis goes and check Harleys pubic hair while she's sleeping, and that she'll never know if their quiet enough. (to which Jervis gets his ass handed to him after a failed attempt if I remember right) which, I don't think I need to emphasize that sexual assault isn't funny. I'm positive it was written as a joke because I can't even fathom the idea that codot would have been serious on writing that. I can't in my right mind see how this is funny to begin with, as someone who has been sexually assaulted I just. I genuinely don't understand how people can just sideline this- how codot thought it was ok to joke about. I just don't understand I genuinely don't understand. And this goes back to how out of character everyone is (including jon), how unnecessarily mean Edward is to Jervis is genuinely uncomfortable, especially with how Jervis is written to be constantly dissociated (or that's how it feels) which makes that whole joke even worse as it slips in abelism!
I also don't understand why in the hell Jervis tetch is homophobic- of course I've only heard this second hand but considering how Jervis's written in this series I wouldn't be surprised if I'm right. But nonetheless, the decision to make Jervis homophobic is an extremely bold decision considering Jervis is canonically a queer character in DC. For YEARS it's been established that he's either queer or bisexual/pansexual of some sort and has even been in some of the recent DC pride collections! If I remember right he even has his own story! So it's so disheartening to see that he's written to be so out of character and to he so hateful when he isn't! And what's crazy is that I'm not even a big hatter fan!
I'm sure there's more issues to be pointed out but right now I've been dissociating really hard and I'm very emotional and I'm just finding it hard to to continue this tangent really and it doesn't help I'm at work. And even excluding this I just have issues from the whole scarecrow sexyman poll thing and ive already stated about my medical issue. I feel like that in it of itself is a valid reason to not like it LMAO.
Also I apologize that this is over the place, again at work and completely dissociating throughout this so a HORRIBLE combo LMAOOO
I'm sure codot is fine person and I'm not at all trying to cancel or start anything. It's just disheartening to see so much abelism go unchecked! Honestly if codot just did his research on these topics (and stopped joking about sexual assault) then I wouldn't have such a huge issue. But he hasn't, and it doesn't feel like he's gonna.
Feel free to correct me if anything I've stated has been wrong though! I don't at all mean to spread any misinformation!
P.s. don't give me the whole "oh he's just one guy and this is just a simple fan project" bullshit when that doesn't excuse anything. I'm literally one person making my fan story and I'm over here reading medical textbooks and doing my research because I understand a lot of my interpretations NEED that research and it's so easy to put in abelist ideas. It's genuinely not hard to do research.

*violently shaking urban environmentalists back and forth* vertical farming isn't real!! It will never make any fucking sense!! Greenhouses are already very real in the here and now!! Stop pretending you can feed a city with food grown inside it, we will always need to ship food in, we must work to reduce that distance, protect our existing farmlands and make better use of them through regenerative farming and greenhouses!!!!
*grabbing solarpunk aesthetic posters by the shoulders* listen, this is very pretty but I need you to understand that someone growing herbs on the balcony of a 3 story walkup is always going to be fundamentally better than whatever skyscraper with vines CGI render bullshit you repost from oat milk companies
#im sorry i listened to a very bad postcast this morning and i had feelings#lmao shut up haz#✌️ go in peace my brothers. i will give you a kiss on the forehead for putting up with me ✌️

en el reencarnación au como es la vida domestica de Adam y lucifer?
Como es la relación de Adam con Charlie?
Donde esta alastor, Angel Dust y el resto del grupo hazbin?
||🔱💮 Reincarnation AU 💮🔱||

But these days I miss strangers more than I More than I miss my friends And the waves of conversations breaking on The shores of my head again
Late night thoughts.
About 2 hours ago I felt shitty so I decided to drink some white-wine and take a warm bath cause.. Fuckitwhynot? Didn't end up taking a bath just a warm, long shower but it was soothing. Feel strangely sober- though it was only a single glass of wine a few hours ago.
Anyway- for some reason I'm craving the biting cold of winter on my face while I'm bundled up in a warm winter jacket(s). Usually I don't relish the ensnarling feeling of winter's early dark, it's cold, strong, winds and deep, occasionally muddy snows. Nor it's gray days and Global Warming-ed sleet. But tonight.. For some reason... I'd really like to walk through a quiet icy cold forest while snow-flakes melt on my warm skin.
I was looking at the snow postcast (opposite of forecast? They were weather records.) and I guess it usually snows by Nov. or Dec. here and every year since 2018 we've been getting significantly less snow. like 10 inches less each year from a high of 42.. I remember in 2017 it snowed on Halloween. (That was a shock!)
At the same time there's this strong feeling inside me that wants to go do or find something novel, something memorable, meaningful- purposeful. A road-trip far West? A flight or weeklong vacation somewhere I've never been?
It's a weird feeling both the urge to leave and "Just GO....!" ...somewhere. Find somewhere new and novel but also find somewhere I feel like I belong, somewhere I know I'm not wasting my time and life. Somewhere wherein every day doesn't blur by like waves on a beach. I guess my heart and brain are screaming out for meaning and purpose and belonging... and someone to hold and give meaning to my hours. Alas I don't know where to go to find any of that. :-/
For some reason my brain says "Out West! Go to the Rockies!" but it's a naïve sentiment, at least I hope it is, since I'm ignoring it.
#wow I only used some 13 times#big vocabulary#much big#very good#mucho grande#tragically all the places I want to be or find people I like are also expensive or lack rental housing or have a lot of homeless or w/e#but social media makes me feel like maybe there's better things elsewhere#more people#happier people#more things to do and see#etc..#Youtube#personal

Angelsey Island, Wales: July 26-28, 2024
After an initial misadventure getting to my hotel, I had an absolute blast in Angelsey, thanks to my fantastic friend and fellow Llewellyn author Kristoffer Hughes and his darling husband Ian, who coordinated a phenomenal experience.
What happened trying to get to the hotel, you ask? Well, here's the thing. The hotel website said it was "close to Holyhead Station." I checked the map and it said it was .9 miles away. Not too bad. Walkable if necessary, right? But I have heavy luggage and would really rather get a ride, so I planned to get a cab from the station.
Except...Holyhead is an Uber dead zone, as I discovered, with no cabs waiting at the station because it's so small, and the cab company a station employee told me to call had no availability to pick me up when I arrived. So I had to hoof it. And the walk took me about 45 minutes, because though it's .9 miles to drive, walking is a bit more circuitous.
And all that would've been okay, except that I discovered very early in the journey that my 45 pound suitcase wasn't rolling quite right. A quick inspection revealed why:
So, fuck. And another one of the wheels wasn't working well, either.
I tried flipping the suitcase around and dragging it on the better wheels, which was do-able but very awkward. I did eventually make it to the hotel, though, where I checked in, showered, then promptly went back out to walk 15 minutes back the direction I came from to buy another suitcase from a very weird department store that was just a bunch of kiosks in front of a warehouse. Wild.
After that adventure, I was picked up by Kristoffer and Ian, who took me out to dinner at the Sea Shanty Cafe with fellow Llewellyn authors Tiffany Lazic and Jhenah Telyndru and Tiffany's husband George. Both Tiffany and Jhenah were slated to present at the Goddess Conference, where I also presented the following week, so I got some good intel on the conference during dinner. The conversation flowed easily and I had some delicious seafood tagliatelle with steamed vegetables, and lemon crunch ice cream for dessert.
After dinner, Kristoffer and Ian took me to a 5500 year old stone burial mound across the street from my hotel. Neat! (Sorry, I did not get a photo.)
The next day was absolutely bombastic. Kristoffer and Ian picked me up again, and we did a grand tour of various holy ruins around Angelsey Island with fellow authors Mhara Starling, Moss Matthey, Brett Angelsey, and Lyndon and Clint, the hosts of the magickal postcast Shove It Up Your Awen.
The tour began at this unassuming pond across from an Air Force base, which has an interesting history you can read about on the signs below.
Another highlight was this amazing religious site, where the Angelsey Druid Order conducts rituals.
And, as a bonus, we visited Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, the longest town name in Europe.
Our final site visited was this life-size D&D map village ruin with lots of fun places to explore.
We went to a fish & chip shop for dinner, where I found out they were appropriating Minnesota culture, how DARE.
I came away from the experience grateful for new and deepened friendships with these fine folks, as well as a deep envy of the Angelsey Druid Order for getting to practice their tradition at so many phenomenal ancient holy spaces.
