The queercoding in Sangcheol's and Jeongwoo's relationship

Let me preface this by saying: everyone is still allowed to see them as whatever they want (a work related relationship, best friends, close friends, soulmates, lovers, and and and) but I think most (if not all at least here on tumblr) can agree it would be ignorant if we completely overshadow just how much queerness there is.

This analysis is brough to you by this thread (why JW is snow white and why SC is the prince) and @thedevildeer latest post. Its not structured and really just a ramble so excuse me if it might sound a little confusing at some points.

Let's start by looking at it through a heteronormative kdrama lense below the cut 

How often do most kdrama fans watch a drama, see the lead man and the lead woman and think "woah, they would look so hot as a couple" even when the drama isn't a romance? Quite often, that's right. That's because most M/F leads are designed to be shipped even outside of the stereotypical romance genre. If it's a crime drama, thriller, mystery etc. Where the focus should solely lie on the plot they will still most likely try to create an M/F duo so most kdrama fans will have something to latch into. It has happened so many times that people dropped a non romance drama because it had no M/F couple, but people apparently want it so badly because how else can they enjoy a non romance drama, right? And kdrama directors/writers know this- they see and read the reviews and work with them; That's why in kdrama land M/F ships are still the norm, still seen as the most canon- even if there is a 2nd ML who has insane chemistry with the 1st ML (perhaps even more than the FL, cuz let's also face it in a lot of kdramas women are written flat)

When the ML is near the FL, everyone immediately interprets all kinds of thoughts into it, even worse when they go as far as to look at each other and hold eye contact, when they worry about each other, support each other, visit each other or are just having a work related conversation. They dont need to confess their love or kiss for the viewer to know they are in love*

Those are all valid points for shipping, that's obivously not the issue- The issue starts when they genuinely can't see the FL as her own character, when they can't seem to understand that men and women can be platonic friends, the issue continues when the 2nd ML appears whos got way more chemistry with the 1st ML or even takes the place of where the FL should be. Its then where the issue peaks- their relationship will automatically treated differently (2nd ML get potentially hated by the M/F shippers even) and it creates rift within the fandom, its shipping and arguments about queerness as a whole (discrediting that queerness is a large spectrum) by cishet fans

Suddenly, if it's M/M those actions I mentioned earlier dont seem romantic anymore, suddenly it's just a simple bromance (and while the term per se isnt homophobic, in these circumstances it sure sounds like it which is why I personally dont like it and rarely use it), best friends caring about each other because homies are homies. ("why can't men stay friends?" we all know that argument) *if they don't confess to each other outright, don't kiss each other, then they aren't i love (last part especially is targeted towards specific BL fans who only think a relationship is valed if they kiss and maje out)

So, this out the way let take a look at SC, JW, HS and BO approach (intentionally or not) on queercoding and the importance of a strong man-woman friendship.

First, let's look at tropes commonly (but not exclusively) found in queer media or media that tries to imply queerness and the similarities they share with SCJW:

Found family (the most common trope in queer media, especially the media that emphasises on realness, as found family serves as a safe space for queer characters when they arent accepted at home)

A strong opposite gender friendship or a friendship that defies traditional views

Color coding (mostly a warm and a cold colour, often times its blue and red)

Language coding (do the characters say they are queer, do they use specific terms, do they confess or declare their love for each other through something deeper; just what are they saying?)

The character design (this is not just about how they look but the desgin as a whole: background story, family, friendships, career, driving force, are they representing something (like a specific color, a flower); what was the creators thought process while creating them)

How do they express love around the person they ador (for example, men express love with touches while women often times use words and actions)

Broken friendships (because old friends dont accept)

Then of course we have common tropes found in all media highlighting love

Clothes sharing

Intense eye contact

Personal space

Lingering

Caring

Hurt/Comfort

Touches

And what do we have here? That's right. Black out s well as SC, JW and HS fit right into the common tropes and the queercoding tropes and yet we see some totally discrediting its validity to exist within the universe because god forbid both JW and SC are queer or viewed as such cuz they both were with women prior and they can't possibly be one of them queers... right?

HS is a really well written female character who's got nuances, a great backstory with a fair share of suffering and the additional nosiness which makes her so special. She is sweet and caring to everyone who seems nice in her eyes. She cares about JW's mother (prior to knowng he's JW's mother so thers no point in saying she does it cuz of JW), cares about Suoh and is genuinely interested in his hobbies. Her character takes care of everyone because she's a med student (you can take a med's job away, but you can never take the job out of a med). This is what her character is about- taking care, worrying. Her purpose in Mucheon was (as we know by ep.13) to find what shes looking for, to find her way back. She is by no means not connected to eithe JW and SC but her story is canonically detached from both JW's and SC's- it takes part in a different pace, in a different setting and through a different lense and most of it happens off screen or throug her observig the people. We rarely get any of her POV's, unless it's either around Suoh or Geonoh. The other times when we do get a POV of her is when SC and JW and in the same frame. Then she is postitioned as the onlooker, the one who observes. When she is alone with JW she gets almost no POV, even less that focuses on her feelings towards him. But the most important thing I said already: her story is detached from SCJW. She grows alone unlike SCJW who grow together. She is that friendship JW needed to show him a part of humanity that got lost with his fake friends. She is to represent and tell that you do not need a large group of friends to feel at home. 

Then there is JW. Beautifully written full of nuances, a tragic yet amazing written backstory- easily to read as a story of someone being queer. A big group of friends, a beautiful home with loving parents and then you got the catalysator which sets the whole plot moving. While for JW it's murder, abuse, gaslighting by friends and people he thought were family, prison and finding new hope in humanity through one person- how can one not look at this and think "yeah it's somewhat reminiscent of someone coming out in a conservative country with traditional family values"? Family and friends ditching before the person can even stand up for themselves, people spreading venomous lies, all the guilt trips, that person shutting themselfs off retreating into their own little world. JW was obviously never meant to be read as such and some even might find this part weird, but it's undeniable he has those classic queercoding tropes. He finds true meaning in humanity again through HS and SC at the same time, yes, but it is SC alone who stands by his side the whole time- every single day. JW feels the safest around SC, falls asleep in his home (therefore also in his presence) and gives in to being taken care of only when SC is around, he also laughs at his dumbs jokes and makes sure to catch his reactions when he is sassy (handing out flyers scene or the scene at the scrapyard). JW is meant to not grow alone but together with someone else- and that someone is SC. who he shares the exact same pain with. He sees the good in people- he sees the good in SC so he keeps on pursuing him even when he would reject him. Because he can see himself in him. Because he feels he's different- just like him. (And isnt it like: Queer people know someone is queer when they see one?). We cannot forget him being a metaphor for Snow White which imo solidifies the queercoding in him even more and how he steps in to save SC and then again to support him by beating up those debt collectors. (Also, just a random little side note: I think it's funny how he's either loved or hated, there was no inbetween. BM and MS hated him, they were eaten up by jealousy; BY, NG, DE and the twins loved him (also again, random side note to me any anyone who cares: it's so easy to read the feelings GO felt towards JW prior and post time skip as more than just friendship tbh which again, adds to the queerness layer))

And then there is SC, just as complex and full of nuances like JW. Having an almost identical tragic backstory to hm even- losing the love of his life. While hes story is way more difficult to decipher as queercoding, his character is most definitely not. He is portrayed as rude and rough towards any criminal and at the beginning of the story we genuienly dont know where we stand with him with this ever fluxuating personality. He is hurt, struggles, doesn't even seem to know himself very well, has seen a lot and he also doesnt trust anyone (as seen when he immediately clocks BM as suspicious when the review the CCTV footage) except JW. How come he trusts him more, even after he had accused him of the hit and run accident, but is side eying everyone the moment the incident with the mother happens? When he should have more trust in his own people then defending and caring for a guy whos accused him of causing the car accident. Even when he finds out JW apparently killed the girls, his actions towards him are differet than the actions we see him taking against the guy he chases after in the beginning. We see him falter and struggle even more in the manhole when he's threatening to shoot JW, we see it again when they are at the shed and JW is reinacting the murder scene- he is reluctant. Even when using violence against JW. Because, just like him, SC feels they are the same. And it doesn't even take much time for him to switch side- we can see him questioning everything onwards from from episode 4 during their first team dinner. And when he switches side he suddenly becomes so soft and caring- completely taking on the role of a possible love interest in both drama, romance and fairytale. Because he has seen the good in JW, saw the same suffering, this unfair treatment. He is a character not meant to grow alone but together and this togethes is only JW. JW still has HS by his side but in SC's world there was only JW who shows him all aspects of what it means to be a good human being. It's through him he grows. 

Their shared journey:

To quote Leo Buscaglia again "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."

And isn't this what SC's and JW's shared bond is about? How they grow with and around each other- thanks to each other.

The little things SC does to make JW more comfortable, to show him love still exists? He takes him home without thinking twice because he's worried he might get sick when he could've taken him back to his house. He dresses him up in his clothes, let him sleep on his couch, in his blankets, gives him something warm to eat and drink (the glass of milk will never stop making me sob), showers him in touches and shows him warmth through them, always reaching after him because he's afraid something might happen to him, watches out for him, observes his reactions and waits for him. The little things JW does to SC- giving him a reality check that not everything is as it seems, graduately bringing back his old personality, stays by his side.

It's how SC brings JW's smile back and how JW brings SC's smile back. Its how SC not once but twice declares his worries, adoration and love towards JW: once when he's so worried sick JW might get hurt so he installs that app on his phone and the second time when they say their "goodbyes"- those words are so easy to read, so full of love. The "if you move" highlighting just how much he wants and hopes JW to stay in his life a little longer. It's longing and we can clearly hear it in his voice when he says "I'm sure you can" right after the monologue and then tilts his head. It's how JW doesn't know how to approach him after this, contemplating what to do and then goes on for the hug first. This is JW's way of showing his love. 

And yet, despite it all there are still people who only see it as a bromance. Those who think JW and HS will end up together because they are at the same uni, study the same. And are a man and a woman. If either SC or JW would be a woman, no one would even bat an eye to think they aren't in love- no one would even come up with the idea to even ship JW and HS. If one of them was a woman, every little gesture would be seen as romantic, betting on it the drama would perhaps even be a lot more popular as well as the ship. It's so disheartening to see how many deny an obvious queercoding between them just because they are men and for the sake of a straight, not well manouvred, ship because again apparenlty many kdrama fans don't dare to ship queer.

We know Black Out/Snow white must die is a fairytale because it very much is just one of many iterations of a snow white and exactly because is one of many nothing is impossible and queerness is allowed to exist within it.

Random ass tgcf AU idea I got while suffering ironing like 3 hanfus and their 3 fucking layers (the struggles of cosplay is all I will say) and decided to make tumblr's problem

Spoilers for tgcf so shoo if you don't wish to get spoilers.

AU where MNQ decided to stay with Jun Wu at that post-Wuyong conflict - and wound up killed by Jun Wu. In his grief and guilt Jun Wu runs away, only burying MNQ but not tossing him into the volcano like the other 3 - combined with Jun Wu's guilt and MNQ's desire to live, it is enough for MNQ to awaken again, but as a ghost. With JW no where in sight, Mei Nianqing begins to wander, trying to find his highness. So the centuries pass, with neither being aware of the other's continued presence - MNQ is still searching and JW has ascended again to reshape the heavens and thinks his old vassals all dead.

Eventually, Mt. Tonglu opens up and MNQ is the first calamity to emerge from it. He has found traces of JW, but with ascension not being in fate's cards for him and him needing more power, becoming a calamity/supreme was the next best step. Eventually, as the word and tales about a new ghost king are spun, JW begins to wonder - cartomancy, fate-reading and manipulation, said to be an excellent fortune reader, it all sounds too familiar, although JW thinks it must just be coincidences, right? And MNQ suspects the Heavenly Emperor to be his dear highness, but he dares not approach or cause too much issues for the heavens, part of him wanting to avoid Jun Wu whilst the other wants to find him again. And so, the two manage to consistently miss each other just so. Until Xianle.

As in canon, Jun Wu takes an interest in the young Xie Lian, and MNQ who saw what star the prince was born under, becomes state preceptor of Xianle, posing as a regular human.

Events as in canon, Xianle falls and MNQ is immediately suspicious as hell of Bai Wuxiang. Commence what I would dub two calamities fighting over custody of their son. MNQ uses his own clones to defy JW/BWX and it devolves into them being too preoccupied fighting each other to pay much attention to Xianle.

Now how it goes from here depends on your preferences. Complete tgcf timeline au, with XL being spared the horrors cause his dads are too busy spiderman-meme pointing at each other and ducking out who gets XL on the weekends and who during the week. OOooor you could make it so that smth happens (like MNQ losing and having to retire for a while to recuperate to watch over XL, or simply booking it from the start cause he does not want to encounter JW who's very much onto him thank you very much), the horrors of XL's life persist until he decides to nope off into the unknown with his two shackles.

Actually I like the latter option, but up to you which route you wanna go. Both are funny. Going with the latter option you can leave most of the tgcf's past timeline unchanged (including, HC, He Xuan, etc.), maybe with changes to the calamities' dynamics if you want to include MNQ in them (or not).

Anyway yeah that's it, that's the idea. Calamities JW and MNQ custody fighting over their adoptive son XL. Do with it what you will or throw it in the trash idc. I might write a fic if I ever pick that hobby up. Or draw something for it, or not. Who knows, I don't. But this idea is free for the taking as per usual.

-Head canon voice: JW Francis - John, Take Me With You

-Tanue travels around with Nix-Ceto sometimes, often au hopping with him. Tanue doesn't have much of a goal in mind other than getting into battles. He will often cause problems on purpose. Often to annoy whoever is the royal guard captain of the au he's in. He doesn't mean any ill will, it's just most people/monsters don't want to fight just for the love of it.

-Since Nix-Ceto can travel au to au without needing the help of anyone else Tanue basically uses Nix as an au taxi. That's mainly how their friendship started at first. But over time the two grew to being close friends, even if Tanue does cause problems for Nix.

-Tanue respects Nix. Sees Nix as a 'cool samurai guy', despite Nix telling him he isn't of the sort. Is willing to help Nix with any problems they encounter on their journey across the multiverse, as well as cook food on rest stops. He feels it's the least he could do for Nix. Is often the one to tell people Nix isn't as cold-hearted as he seems.

-Even though he travels around with Nix, and knows of Nix's motivation for trying to solve small problems around the multiverse, he couldn't care less about the Star-Sanses. Sure he respects Nix's adoration of them, but he personally has never met any of them. Plus he thinks he causes too much trouble for the Star-Sanses to like him if they did ever meet. He's fine with that though, as he doesn't care of others opinions of himself.

-Tends to get along well with anyone who is the au variant of Undyne (either it be Undyne or whoever is filling the role of the royal guard captain). Mostly due to his personality and his love for fighting. When hanging out with them it can get very loud. To add to this, he also really gets along with au variants of Papyrus (or whoever is filling in Paps role).

-Loves any sort of challenges or bets. Can often be swayed to do things if it's under the guise of a challenge/bet. Providing he likes what ever he'd get if he wins.

-Doesn't take too many things seriously. Preferring a more leisurely life, often runs away when situations get too serious for him. Very laid back, but energetic.

-Only really motivated by fighting and food. Any other time he's lounging around. Shiny objects may also get him motivated, providing he deems it worthy of himself. Likes to receive food or anything particularly shiny as gifts, will often hype up whoever gives him things, e.g. calling them awesome and such.

-Often seen either fighting, lounging around or cooking. It's pretty rare to see him doing anything else, and can often be seen as out of character for him. Since he hates doing anything else, especially if it's something that requires effort.

-A good cook, due to his love of food he's always wanting to learn how to make new dishes. He himself mostly makes anything sweet, and can often be seen making or eating dango. Doesn't have a particular meal he likes. It's just whatever he's craving tends to be ingredients for food which he will then think off any food that has those ingredients in it and decides from there what to make.

-When traveling around with Nix-Ceto, will often bother him to take a break. Mainly because he wants to stop to make meals that may take time, or him genuinely wanting to hang out in an au, either him hanging out with Nix and whoever they're traveling with at that moment, or him going off to hang out with the inhabitants of the au.

-Loud, both in his voice and personality. Will try to tone it back if someone asks him too, or he sees he's upsetting someone.

-Is a sucker for loud music, or catchy music he can sing along too. Often he annoys people with his music taste, even though he doesn't mean too.

-Is 5'2 tall, despite his size he is physically strong as well as quick. Uses his lightning magic to push his body past it's normal limits.

-is 25 years old, younger than a lot of the Sanses. So tends to also be more joyful than other Sanses too, as he hasn't experienced what others have.

-Is a semi-outcode and has a brother. His au was destroyed before the main parts of the au (what takes place in the game) could really happen. He fled to the omega timeline with his brother, but found he enjoyed exploring all the aus, leaving his brother behind with people he trusts. He rarely sees his brother anymore due to his brother not remembering him since he was so young when Tanue started to leave. So Tanue only hangs out with him from time to time.

Starting out with my Comm

This is Iowey Lorn, the game doesn't allow me to make her unconventionally beautiful and monstrous so here is your basic human fem meta.

She's a half Norn half Human Mesmer, her whole backstory is basically teenage me hurting her whenever i felt any kind of negative emotion.

This outfit is her canonical SoTo outfit (exept for the spear ofc).

In Game she is a Commoner/Dead Sister/Lyssa Human and uses Dignity.

I play her as a Chronomancer and always have, usually with Sword/Focus and Greatsword, but i use Spear mostly since JW.

She's also my Main, so she got like almost 3k hours in her back.

idol! idol! idol au part two!

let’s actually discuss the jw scandal, since everyone was curious (✯ᴗ✯)

in the original tgcf, we know that one of the main ways jw manipulated/tortured xie lian was through isolation! the xianle war being a indirect factor into making mq leave, and fx being forced to leave by xl because he was in such a bad state mentally due to the hallucinations. hc has to leave, too, because he was but a mere ghost flame. in those weakest times, was when xie lian truly lost his sanity, was tortured beyond belief. and that’s the sort of route i want to take with this au.

let’s reiterate: on the survival show, because the unfolding of events there is super important. mu qing being brought back was a great decision for most, but for some toxic ot3 stans, he becomes their punching bag. to isolate xie lian, jw takes the first step: getting the other members out of the picture! and with his ceo fingers, he strings together a bullying scandal.

if you don’t follow kpop or other idol industries, a bullying scandal is basically your reputation in the mud. bullying scandals have ruined so many idols’ lives, especially the false ones. dispatch, paparazzi, will post whatever clout they have, and netizens will devour it, and proceed to harass said idol. to create a false scandal would mean that jw has guaranteed mq’s exit ticket, because him staying in the group would affect their reputation. remember the shackle on mq’s wrist? yeah, with a few threats to the other member’s safety, jw manages to make mq leave the group. 

and just like in tgcf, mq soon becomes hated by the other 3 members, because yeah, the scandal, proof, and fabricated texts looked legit. and finding a lawyer…was tough. soon, mq’s insta is gone, and any support for him (except for a few of his genuine stans) is wiped off the timeline. all we see is #justiceforx3 and #kickmqout trending. 

following the canon order, feng xin is next. another toxic part of idol culture is diets. and my headstrong belief is that feng xin would say “fuck you” to the diets and build his muscle his way. (diets can be interpreted as the cultivation method xl+mq were on, too.) when jw threatens him, and forces a same fate on feng xin, feng xin realizes he must leave: to make sure he can still stay in contact with xl, redeem himself and talk to mq, and file a fucking lawsuit. because no way in hell is fx letting jw off the hook. i haven’t developed this part yet, but thinking about fx hinting at hc about how something is wrong, and hc catching on to jw’s sus behaviour. 

x4 is no more. jw has almost succeeded. the only thing blocking his way? gege’s #1 believer, hua cheng. threats don’t work on this guy. hc alerts xl, who isn’t stupid, guys. he pretends to play along, but is really secretly recording all these conversations as proof to present in court. 

meanwhile, fx meets with a solemn mq, who refuses to talk to him, or do anything idol related. he finds that mq’s mom died, which put him in an even worse situation. like every post-canon tongulu fix-it, fx slowly realizes his mistakes, but mq also realizes his lack of communication. a slow romance is perhaps in the works, but the more important part? saving xl. once mq is let in on the plan, he reveals every small detail he’s collected, from evidence proving him innocent, and snippets of conversations he recorded, to strict, unfair, diets. 

and just as xl is about to finalize the details of his solo contract, hc whisks him away (with full consent). A very controversial figure has sent some data to dispatch, and the shit has hit the fan, because suddenly the mq stans are out of hiding, with full reciepts. a once-in-a-lifetime event occurs, where fxmq stans bond together to make threads upon threads of mistreatment. oddly anonymous accounts leak texts, voice snippets, and other proof of fake bullying scandals and the general mistreatment x4 has faced: whether it be line distributions, restrictions, or other things. it is a chaos. bad for jw, but just amazing for x4.

jw is arrested, held at trial where he pleads guilty. jail, jail. #weloveyoumq, #weloveyoufx, #weloveyouxl, #weloveyouhc are the top 4 trending tags. #foureverswithx4 is everywhere. x4 mends their relationship tentatively, they reopen their social media, and sign contracts under YH entertainment, the same producer on their survival show, Yushi Huang’s company.

I've recently re-read your post on the tgcf vertical reversal AU and I am so so curious. Apologies if this has been asked before, but I'd love to hear more!

Specifically, how does the Wuyong story go then, with Jun Wu (&MQN)? Is it still the volcano erupting?

Does anything change in regards to Xianle? Or do Wuyong and Xianle swap stories?

Hi! This is actually the first ask I've ever gotten, so no worries!

The Wuyong/Xianle swap keeps the core elements (Volcano-Plague), but changes the circumstances around them.

Specifically, the Human Face Plague is mainly a result of biological warfare instead of outside interference (as well as the Land of the Tender and a bunch of other curse/demon stuff).

Mount Taicang has been used to imprison resentful spirits in canon (chapter 27 / 66-68) so I took that and extended it to demons, curses, plagues... all kinds of bad stuff. Sometimes that 'bad stuff' (technical term) accumulates to the point where it needs to be released and/or consumed or it risks breaking the wards. One big straightforward threat is easier to deal with than a bunch of small complicated ones, so that's why the Ghost King trial happens.

The Wuyong situation diverges because of increased resource struggle and other gods taking advantage even more than in canon- the other events (volcanic eruption, war, bridge) still happen (and are maybe kinda worse?).

Unnamed Vassal 1: so, we may or may not be in the midst of a political shitstorm-

Unnamed Vassal 2: the people are dying of smoke inhalation-

Unnamed Vassal 3: everybody hates you-

In terms of other characters, nothing's final but I have been thinking about three tumors Yin Yu-Shi Qingxuan-He Xuan (overworked-party animal-business major) as well as switching Yin Yu-Ling Wen + Quan Yizhen-Bai Jing, and maybe put Banyue and Pei Xiu in a beefleaf situation. maybe.

Also, swapping Lang Qianqiu and Lang Ying (jr).

And yes, Jun Wu gets his version of those missions. Here is a snippet of how the whole 'dress up' thing went:

Jun Wu is just the personification of 'hurt people hurt people' for me and if you wish I may write an essay about that thazs vaguely structuered and more of a ramble. I do however very much consider mei nianqing to be important to his healing. I dont even call it a redemption arc but oh boy that man needs some Healing. Mnq does too and they really should do that together because their issues are so intertwined. I have so many loose thoughts about this right now oh ma god.

The path to Jun Wus redemption or healing will always lead through the vassal that stayed longer and the vassal that left in the end. The one man he couldn't kill in two thousand years. The one man who knew him before he put on one mask after the other.

And truly they have all the time in the world for that post-canon. Let nianqing (...nian...nyan....nya... Yeah i didnt sleep enough.) visit him in the mountain. Return day after day to make it stick a little. That hes there now. Bring tea, bring books to read, whatever really. They are both so incredibly hurt it makes me sick (positive) and it would be a journey. One thats hard and rocky. One where JW still falls back to lash out and bite because its what saved him for hundreds of years but MNQ stays now no matter how he growls.

Yes JW is just a rescue dog to me and I will never get that thought out of my head ever again but I have one and the similiarities of it are striking. Funnily enough that also means most people should just ignore him (for now). Let one person get closer for now, more than that would be too much and if he starts to feel cornered he will growl and then he will bite. Its an intricate play ot trial and error to figure out when to actually step back and give more space and when to take him by the scruff even if he tries to bite. So MNQ got a lot of work and figuring that out ahead because thats his rescue now (has always been really) and JW will always remain a little more at ease with him than the rest of the world.

At last those who caused the pain have died and after that, by all means, it was all a grasp for control because for as long as he has control he can never be hurt. I believe we all try to hold control over at least something in our lives and its natural to do so. We are all scared to be hurt. But nobody can control everything (much less forever) and he needs to learn to live with that fear and uninternalize the mask of anger that hides it.

No matter what he needs to feel safe first. Not ultimatly safe but at least safe to show that hes afraid. Safe enough to stop wearing a mask of stirkes to hide the vulnerabilty. He needs to be scared and he needs to be vulberable and it need to be safe and okay for once.

And who better to grant that safety than that started the whole tale of his demise and his crimes by telling our main character to the face that this man shone so much brighter than he ever did. A fact i will never get over. The contents of what MNQ tells XL and us is like: War crimes, attempted murder on me, wiping out the heavenly capital, bringing ruin to Multiple kingdoms and how does one start such a tale best? Logically by refering to the man in question as the sun. But thats not enough. He wasnt just any source of light. He outshone you and all of us and all the other gods which are now dead because he murdered them.

MNQ is crazy for that and I absolutly adore that and that is literally all it will ever take for me to ship this. You can not tell me that is not a subtle love confession?? JW attempted to murder him multiple times i don't think people normally talk about such a guy like that??

I just finished part 4 and I have some Questions that I am frankly too emotional to find answers to and I need a friend to tell me the facts straight.

What was that ending? Wht TF was that ending? Is he... is he really dead? Just like that? We don't get to see him go back to his car or his dog, get to enjoy his freedom except for a few seconds? I am balling my eyes out. I thought the grave stone was fake- just an added precaution to stop ppl from following him afterwrds- tht he faked his death or something. I googled it and 1 article says he is well and truly dead, other said he is dead but it's NOT the duel that killed him, while a third said we might have a 5th movie in production. I am so sooo confused and have I mentioned I am crying?? Cause I kid you not I have snot flowing down my face. I didn't realize what kind of cathartic fix it Bittersweet truly is. But I will re read it now with a new lens. Omggggg it's like I was reading it in the most honest reader lens and now I will understand John's action with a completely different depth. Ahhh tears again...

I know it was a dramatic and poignant ending but seriously, after everything that man went through, fuck them if that's truly the end. I'm so tired of Hollywood trying to be clever and totally ignoring what people actually need as a cathartic ending to something they're emotionally invested in. I think I've hated the ending of every movie/show franchise I've ever loved. By now i just expect to be kicked in the balls, metaphorically speaking.

Oh gosh, I have so many and I can't choose akjsfnkajsnfjkafn BUT! Here's one I've always loved and had since the first time I watched BE:

I have a headcanon that Ju Won and Jae Yi become good friends post-canon. I know it's not a big headcanon but I truly enjoy their interactions together because every time that Ju Won spoke or interacted with Jae YI (just the two of them) Jae Yi bestows Ju Won her interpersonal wisdom to him (that usually always later follows with Ju Won interacting with Dong Sik or is related to his interactions with him). So I HC Jae Yi as the wise lesbian to baby gay Ju Won.

Yes, this also means that once Ju Won realizes that what he feels towards Dong Sik is in L-word (in lesbians) with Dong SIk, he obviously goes to Jae Yi (cause no way in hell is he going to reach out to Hyuk just yet). Ju Won seems nervous and fidgety and Jae Yi has suspicions but doesn't push. She just kind of waits and makes small conversation with him until he feels ready, which turns out not to be too long after she asks him what has he been up to or something like that right. He doesn't mention the L-word and Dong Sik together in a sentence, but idk maybe he asks her about love and/or about romantic relationships right, maybe her perspective or opinion or maybe if she knows how Dong Sik feels about that topic, etc. Listen, she can't help but tease him a bit and says something about "Wow, what growth Inspector Han has had, coming to me and asking for love advice." (Listen, she's another fckn Gemini, it's a reason why her and DS get along so fckn well and appreciate the other cause they're both similar lol) He stands up and is about to leave and she quickly just tells him to sit down as she brings a small snack to the table and maybe some soju or tea (depending on which one Ju Won will feel more comfortable with lol). He really needs a fresh perspective so he does sit down and hears her out.

But yeah lol I really love my gay/lesbian duos lolololol especially these two lol So when I say they'd be good friends, I mean Jae Yi teasing JW but still being supportive lol.
