Crowds in the streets are thinning, the bustle of the day dying with them. At his arm, Xie Lian has finally lost the tension he carried at the beginning. Hua Cheng was the one moving them from place to place and even he wouldn’t be able to trace back their steps to where they came from; for the White-Clothed Calamity to follow is a deed beyond impossible. “One room again if you don’t mind,” Xie Lian asks before they enter. “I don’t want to spend the night awake, wondering if you’re safe.” Hua Cheng’s unbeating heart skips a beat nonetheless. “Are you reading my mind, gege?” he asks, putting as much cheek into his voice as he can. Let it seem he doesn’t worry. Xie Lian deserves some peace of mind. “Or are you planning something?” “Planning? What would I be—San Lang!” He hides his face in his hands—it gets so red within moments, as red as Hua Cheng’s new robes, and every part of him compels him to chase the elation his soul flutters in at the thought of making Xie Lian blush so deeply again. “Are you going to be like this all the time?” “I can be worse.”

It's over.

The final chapter of Mind in Madness, Heart in Peace (main story) has been posted! It was a beast of a chapter written during my time injured, and I have had my surgery and am currently recovering.

(Turns out, besides the dislocation and the torn ligament, I had a small fracture??? and some bone chipped off???)

2024 was wild.

Anyway, this has been an incredible ride, I'm so proud of this story, and this final chapter is featuring an artist I follow who I also love very much! Hope you guys enjoy it!

Chapter Summary: The aftermath.

FIC SUMMARY:

The Martial God of Death, Hua Cheng, ascended with little to no memory of his mortal life before godhood. What he did know was that he did it for…Someone. Someone so beloved and so ingrained in his heart that, even when he had lost all memory, he remembered he needed to look for them. Even without knowing who they were.

With his mission in mind, he made an agreement with Heaven to allow him to stay in the mortal realm to look for that Someone.

Except…he seems to have caught the eye of The Scourge of Heaven, the Lord of the Ghost City, and The Mad Calamity: Fangxin, the Crimson Sword Deathly Flower.

Or: A HuaLian Reverse!AU resulting from a very specific canon divergence point.

Which is odd. Only because Xie Lian usually repairs broken machines. It’s incredibly rare for an already fine-tuned engine to seek him out for help. And even if so, they are always accompanied by another that requires attention.

This machine isn’t here for a repair.

Xie Lian isn’t that lucky.

I have come to the conclusion that in a Role Reversal AU with Ghost King Xie Lian and God Hua Cheng, the two fake Junior Officers must be Yin Yu and He Xuan. Yin Yu is trying to prove that Xie Lian is a Calamity and dragged He Xuan down in this mess to have some support but his plan was foiled by Xie Lian giving He Xuan something to snack on and now, he keeps asking for more food. Or he's dead, if Xie Lian was the one to cook it.

He stands over their sleeping figure, his shadow drowning the pictures on the wall that represented their life since he had left them to die. A river of blood loops into a knot between his fingers, spills over the alabaster of their skin, and loops into a knot around their fingers as well, binding them across the barrier of life and death.

That means some characters will have powers based on the movie (Pei Ming=lighting bolts) while others may have powers closer to their book counterpart (Shi Wudu=control water). The fic will follow along the plot of the movie with some alterations. That being said, it does retain the story inaccuracies from the Disney Hercules movie, just so you know. I thought FengQing fit the dynamic of Hercules and Meg, so I was super excited to write a fanfiction with that idea. :D
