Old Wounds

So excited to finally post this comic collab between @chocodile and I! She did the initial thumbnails and colors and provided the evil wizard rabbit, and I did the script, sketch and lines and provided the pathetic prettyboy unicorn.

Old Wounds is a look into the alliance between Duke Hyden and Lord de Luxe, an alliance that winds up being a mere ploy for Hyden’s experimentation with unicorn blood and leaves Ambroys feeling rather drained (and often unconscious on Hyden’s floor). It takes place towards the end of their “friendship”, after there’s some serious bad blood between the two - bad blood that sustains a centuries-long grudge.

(Well - I say “bad blood,” but Hyden seems to think the blood is juuuust fine.)

Whilst we were talking one came running and breathlessly gasped out that the body of Skinsky had been found inside the wall of the churchyard of St. Peter, and that the throat had been torn open as if by some wild animal. Those we had been speaking with ran off to see the horror, the women crying out "This is the work of a Slovak!"

Speaking of Skinsky, why is this murder so vicious? I don't say "why this murder" because it's pretty clear that Dracula is trying to eliminate the local witness who knows which way he's going. I'm also not asking "is this Dracula" because the women's reaction seems pretty clearly based on bias against them and we know the Count himself has both a very good reason to kill Skinsky and the ability to do so like a wild animal.

But then, why that way? He could have killed him a bunch of other ways, many presumably less obvious than turning into a wolf and tearing out his throat. Or summoning a wolf to do so, though that seems unlikely here in town. I guess he could also have just used vampire superstrength to claw his throat open while still in a human form, but again that's so vicious.

I suppose he was just getting some of his anger out on someone that he was going to be killing anyway. It's not like using a less conspicuous method of murder would disguise the fact that he did it if the crew hunting him down get close enough to investigate this corpse, after all. They've gotta know it was him. All he cares about is shutting up Skinsky permanently, so why not take the chance to express his rage? The rest of this trip he's trying to be incognito/swift, so he can't exactly vent anywhere else by killing sailors or random civilians along the way.

"I was hopeless, hopeless, I was helpless, helpless"

but he sings about JEREMY;

"you are hopeless, hopeless, ALMOST helpless."

he puts himself beneath jeremy.

Big Horror Sans is so much fun and I love him so but realistically, he'd be so much smaller and sharper.

Paps got bigger cause of the evil pasta, but Sans never really ate, so... tiny sharp Horror that lulls you into a fall sense of security before he tears you apart ❤️
