Firstly, I LOVE THE SPREADSHEET.

Secondly, this bit of timeline detail is so odd that I haven't completely ruled out that this whole fact is actually a dream Franz had once.

...or it's going to be the secret key to the whole Third Journey and indeed the whole series.

Who even knows? Watch that space, I guess.

so franz says this happened approx. 400 years ago

but does that include the ~256 years passed in the time geas or not? because if it does, then that would only be ~144 outside years ago.

not including it:

ive highlighted 50 years to either side of the estimated placement of daedalus since franz isnt being exact in his number, and to give a sense of what was going on around then. as you can see, the only heterodyne in this timeline block with confirmed approx dates [highlighted in yellow] is dagon. could this be the father referred to by franz? he doesnt have any mentioned time related experiments, but the video game [unclear canonicity] does say that he attempted to repair a queen's mirror, which could have involved unusual temporal/dimensional effects.

including it:

this reckoning of time puts daedalus in the much more recent 18th cen. this could potentially account for the mention of a "shining council" which could possibly be a transitional phase between the leftovers of the shining coalition and the modern storm king conspiracy council. still no one in this time block with known time based experiments to be daedalus' father.

and also this has impies for anytime the castle/other mechanicsburgers have said something happened "x hundred years ago" whos years? its gonna throw off some of my spreadsheet estimates!

Let's be real here, timeskip or no, the Heterodynes would do that for fun.

It doesn't even have to be a different guy! Quick bit of disguise (anywhere on the scale of "different hat" to "whole-body mad science modification") and talk loudly about great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-grandfather...who is YOU.

(Bonus points if the Heterodynes have multiple siblings in that generation and they ALL do this.)

Get the Jägers in on it. Get them to careen around talking loudly about how they haven't raided that shop in centuries, it's so great that folks keep up the grand old traditions of having lovely little shops with delicious miniature pastries (they totally raided the same shop last week).

Just to mess with people. Y'know?

This is so fucking funny I can't handle it. Imagine some guy showing up in (spins wheel) Belgrade saying that he's the new Heterodyne and he's here to burn the city to the ground because his great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-grandfather's dying wish was that he could sack Belgrade one last time. And the guy that he's talking about was here last week.

I find it HILARIOUS that Mechanicsburg has misplaced their Heterodynes MULTIPLE times over the centuries. So, reasons for Heterodyne disappearances: 1. They got lost for 5 years because they SUCKED at reading maps and wouldn't ask for directions. 2. They went on a military campaign and ended up in South Africa. 3. They went out to sea and ended up playing pirate for a few years. 4. They went to another dimension and came back to find out that they were missing for 2 yrs.

Everybody who sees this should add their own. Here are mine:

- Made a very effective shrinking device and got lost in the master bedroom for two years fighting gargantuan mimmoths and nyar spiders.- Went for a walk in the market in disguise (like you do), then got distracted by a blacksmith, fell in love, came back five years later expecting their seat to have been kept warm for them. And it was.- Messed with time, went BACK in time a short period, avoided past self but due to flightiness continued avoidance for seven months after instigating incident.Free space: We already know about the guy who stayed underground longer than necessary because he liked bat sandwiches.
