Just a place for me to post/reblog whatever I like, though you'll probably see a lot of Pokemon Special-related stuff and occasional (in)coherent ramblings about anything.

Yellow likely made the perfectly valid assumption that her adventures ended with her having successfully killed Lance, so three years later when Silver told her he had been in contact with the dragon tamer since then, her brain was probably going,
HOW IS HE STILL ALIVE

To be fair, the tiny child tried to drown him in lava, and, when that somehow failed to kill him, then dropped a magically charged nuke on his head (that he also had no business surviving).
I can't stop thinking about how mr big strong elite four dragon boy got his butt kicked by a 9-year-old with a rat and then like 30 volumes later went "yeah so that kid is the only person I fear"

So here's the official twitter's panel plus karubii's four pages! Violet and Nemona defeat Mela, and it looks like there's a good heart-to-heart afterwards!
Last month's release is up online as well!

Looks like it already got released in Germany as well.
congrats, Viz just announced scarvio manga is getting translated, check their twitter
Me: Boy, I hope it doesn't take two years for Viz to get to SV!
Viz: (takes a year and a half)
Spring next year? Huh, is it normal to announce stuff this ahead of time? (I do not remember when they announced for SWSH). I was hoping for fall this year at the latest (sobs).
I know it's not gonna happen, but I wish someone at Viz would say why it takes so long for them to handle Spe now. Viz similpubs most of their other series, and the Ichiban content is online now too!

Checking on the French side of things, Kurokawa specifically calls PokeSpe a kodomo in a tweet but a manga selling site calls it a shonen (while other Pokemon print products are under 'children').
I'm reminded of the time years ago when a Viz higher up, in an interview, talked about how they pulled out Spe volumes from the kids' section in Barnes n Noble and put them in the general manga section, which resulted in higher sales.
So maybe the publishers consider it a kodomo while the retailers consider it a shonen.
Today on, huh, interesting, PokeSpe is listed as a shonen manga, not a kodomo, at least on Kindle, and is ranked alongside other shonen manga series.
I wonder how the other CoroCoro manga are listed.

While PokeSpe's females protags tend to get the short end of the stick, I also wholeheartedly believe that Kusaka usually uses the female supporting cast really well. Best use of them was probably in Kalos; the good and the evil ladies were doing like 80% of the work.
#pokemon special#pokespe#just a thought#but yeah so glad how Scarlet's coming out so far#they're making a genuine effort#don't drop the ball

Ha, Yamamoto is intentionally making Scarlet's eyes/pupils smaller in an attempt to make her less conventionally cute. He may make them like Mack/Blaise's later? I wonder if that'll be something to be changed once we get to the full volumes.
Here's her at the end of her proper debut:
Yup, her pupils def got a lot smaller.
#pokemon special#pokespe#yeah i like her with smaller pupils#i approve#def makes her look more unique

Oh, I should've specified. Red's biggest missing political perk is the biggest implication that the Indigo League doesn't have an official, government-sanctioned Elite Four; as the still reigning Champion, the Elite Four should be his direct subordinates. But since Kusaka already wrote the Kanto Elite Four as genocidal terrorists that tried to kill him...well...
On the flip side, Red doesn't seem to have any political responsibilities. The League pretty much leaves him alone except for when he has to show up to officially defend his title. He still gets involved in world-saving business because natural trouble magnet + moral compass.
I need to read the early chapters of pokespe again... especially the Yellow chapter. RS understands the League as a sort of quasi-government, an organization that works collaboratively for the betterment of the region in times of crisis... but if I'm thinking about Kanto and trying to apply that same structure to them, half those fuckers were straight up EVIL. They were CAUSING the crises. I'm thinking from the perspective of, like, Misty. Or Blaine. Did they have to have meetings around a big table with all the gym leaders? Do the Rocket-affiliated leaders try to hide their intentions, or are the sinister vibes just completely out in the open? Does Blaine have to keep a straight face after his dramatic departure from Team Rocket knowing he's gonna have to see three of those assholes at Other Work in the morning. And I KNOWWW Giovanni did not come to the office parties did Brock like even know him?? Have they met?? AND THEN THE ELITE FOUR?? DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE ELITE FOUR. WHY WAS THE KANTO LEAGUE SO INSANE. Misty is like TWELVE.

It's not like magical girls haven't used makeup accessories since forever and I understand how much money tie-in merchandise brings in, but dang, feel like Precure nowadays is just short of incorporating a Korean makeup tutorial into their transformation sequences.
#precure#just me rambling#ironically I started losing interest in precure#just as they were finally liscensed out#ha#but yeah#the newer transformation sequences#kinda take me out#like at least try to be more subtle that you're trying to sell a wholeass makeup line to elementary school kids#and yes they're for the kids#I saw the commercials

It's always fun to bring up the fact that in Spe, next to Arceus, Yellow is potentially the closest thing to God.

Ha, the Indigo League is such a fucked up mess in PokeSpe, courtesy of Kusaka figuring out his headcanon worldbuilding before the games really solidified anything.
Red has the prestige of being the regional champion but it sure as hell doesn't look like he has any of the political perks the others do, plus there are heavy implications that the Kanto and Johto Elite Fours aren't government affiliated and just call themselves that.
And yeah, it does also look like the League never bothered to have all the Gym Leaders come in for periodical meetings until the GSC exhibition tournament. That said, Misty being a preteen isn't a big deal, other regions have kids as Gym Leaders.
Yes, we can blame the region being a literal polluted hellscape for a lot of things, though Yellow being the second coming of Poke-Jesus and fixing the environment meant that the government couldn't use that as an excuse anymore and was forced to actually be a bit more proactive in trying to fix their internal problems.
I need to read the early chapters of pokespe again... especially the Yellow chapter. The sale did so well they're doing it again already 😆
The Kindle sale in Japan is over (only lasted a day or two), but in that time frame, Pokespe volumes took up 42 slots of Kindle's top 50 shonen manga sales.

Oh, but be sure to help out if you see anyone else who's weak or in trouble.
Looks like Scarlet really took Mela's words to heart, going out of her way to help people even though she left Team Star and has her own personal goals to reach.
#pokemon special#pokespe#this is bittersweet#hope to see these two mend their relationship#mela clearly cares a lot about scarlet#but she did need that brutal wakeup call too

Ooh, Yamamoto responded to a question on twitter, and heavily implied that Violet got his hair done at Levincia for his disguise rather than get a wig. I wonder if Scarlet did the same?
