Speaking of Ashlynn having to deal with the Gay Bullshit, I really don’t think we can leave out Raven (and Rosabella, who we’ll discuss later) who is rooming with prime gay bs, you know?

I mean, Raven’s already had it up to here with talks about destiny and fulfilling it and shit. She’s heard Apple go on and on about how their story is supposed to play out.

I can’t even imagine how many times Apple must’ve recounted how she would be lying in her glass coffin with crying dwarves and animals around her, before Daring would heroically sweep in and save her with his true loves kiss.

And then comes Dragon Games. And Apple gets poisoned. Daring fails to wake her up. Darling Charming, his sister, is the one to break her curse.

Oh, good god, Raven thinks, horrified, I’m never going to hear the end of this.

And I would like to bet good money that she doesn’t.

Raven, who is getting a minimum of 30 minutes of sleep, hearing Apple talk about how she doesn’t like Darling that way, and sure, maybe she thought Darling was like really pretty, but not in that sense; she didn’t like girls, promise! And it’s not like Darling was really her true love, even though she didn’t mind the idea all too much and-

And Raven Queen sits there, with bloodshot eyes, an aching head, and a heart too kind to tell her confused friend to shut up and let her sleep at 5 am after talking about her crush for 3 hours, while saying she doesn’t like them, wondering what she did to deserve this.

Raven can’t look Darling in the eye for 3 days straight after she hears Apple talk about strong and muscular Darling is for a good hour or so.

Once Apple finally realizes she might actually, really, like Darling, I’d like to imagine it gets much worse for Raven. She contemplates if jumping out the window would be less painful then to hear Apple gush about Darling one second and then say how she doesn’t deserve her in the span of 2 minutes.

Apple: Oh, Raven, she’s just so wonderful. If only I could be good enough for her, then I-

Raven, looking ready to commit murder: Apple White, you beautiful, fucking angel, if you don’t go tell this girl that you like her in the next 10 minutes, I am going to end up marrying her.

Fav games I played in 2022 #8 - Tales of Vesperia

Tales of Vesperia was a really fun journey. I really enjoyed Yuri as a protagonist, it's nice to have a protagonist who is already fully developed and steadfast on their ideals, having them instead push the other characters forward to develop. I also really liked Rita a lot, and it took me a while but I warmed up to the other characters too over time, especially Karol and Raven who I didn't care much for at the start. The game did a solid job of giving them all time to shine I think, and there were plenty of great skits as well (one of my fav parts about Tales games).

Combat was a struggle for me in this game. I was really frustrated with it for a good while and I don't feel like I really got any good at it by the end. Flying enemies were a nightmare for me, I really did not appreciate there being multiple flying bosses in the later half of the game 😠 Also wasn't fond of having to get equipment to learn skills, my eyes would glaze over as I try to figure out which ones I wanted for what skills, and the later ones took forever to master.

I feel like the story could have also used some trimming on certain things so it could flesh out the main parts more. It was still enjoyable over all though. I will say my biggest disappointment though was not enough Flynn. Seriously, his dynamic with Yuri is the freaking best!!! Every encounter between the 2 of them is one of the best moments in the game, I just love these two besties who frustrate one another to no end but always got each other's backs and believe in one another 100% Now I kinda want a prequel game focused on the two of them in their earlier days.. omg I need that now. I think there was a manga about the two of them but I couldn't find it.

Speaking of manga, I read Raven's manga, Kokuu no Kamen/The Empty Mask, and it's amazing!!!!! Seriously, If you enjoy Tales of Vesperia you HAVE to read it!!!!!!! It made me appreciate Raven's character a lot more, to the point that I think he is now my favorite ToV character!! Also it gave some good insight to parts of the story that weren't elaborated on in the game and more insight into Alexei's character.

In the end, while there were things that frustrated me, I really did enjoy Vesperia quite a bit. It was a fun journey with lots of laughs to be had. The party was great and had a lot of good character development, and Yuri is just such a fantastic protagonist.

Duke said it was a bad idea to follow. But Emily didn't care. She had to know. About everything.

She hung back, letting Brave Vesperia do what they were doing. They were more equipped to fight Alexei whereas she was here by herself. Duke refused to back her up. Muttering about how humans were insufferable.

She peered out from her hiding spot for a moment and knew why Raven choked suddenly. She would've done the same. Well, she would've let out some horrible sob before begging for forgiveness as she raised her sword.

They were going to have trouble fighting her. But she knew a surprise element would help the odds a little. Her hand went to the hilt of her sword that rested on her back and she took a deep shaky breath.

'I'm sorry Case. I'll make sure these idiots don't die again.' She made the promise to herself before leaping out from her hiding spot and cried out her arte, blastia shining brightly in her hair.

"Demon fang!" She cried as she struck Casey...no Canary. She needed to differentiate them. This wasn't Casey. This wasn't the knight she met and made friends with. This wasn't the one who shared her thoughts on books they read or thoughts on life as a noble.

This was a puppet made by Alexei. Just as Raven and Yaeger were. But this was different.

"If you aren't going to fight then get back!" She chastised Raven.

"This guy still hasn't completely unlocked Zaude's controls."

Looking past Rita, Raven found that what she had said was right. Alexei was still fiddling with the same sort of panels Rita always used to access the controls for blastia and the like. So that meant Alexei was just buying time as the ground they stood on continued to climb upward. Maybe they stood a chance after all, he thought as he nocked an arrow in preparation. They had a rough fight ahead of them, but there was a chance.

"Ah, Rita Mordio. How careless of me," Alexei said, dismissing his panel. He still wasn't preparing for a fight, though. Why? The man was commandant of the knights, for crying out loud. Was he just that confident that he could wipe them out? That he didn't need to prepare anything for the fight ahead? Or was there something else?

Footsteps. Raven could hear footsteps just behind him and the others. He drew in a breath and whipped around, arrow pointed at their target. Then he stopped. His breath caught in his throat and his hold on his bow slackened

"Ah. Canary, you made it."

Alexei's voice carried some sort of twisted satisfaction. There before him stood a woman. Brown haired, brown-eyed, and oh so familiar. But her eyes lacked something. A spark of life that was once there no longer seemed to linger. She was adorned in the orange uniform of Alexei's knights, and she too carried a bow.

"Canary? Who the hell?" Of course Yuri would ask. The others were starting to look now, but Raven only could see it from his peripheral. No... no, this wasn't right. It couldn't be right! She was dead. He'd seen her die!

Apparently, Alexei had noticed his state.

"Did you really think I wouldn't have a replacement in mind for you and Yeager? After you both failed me so?"

"C... Casey..." Raven didn't know when he'd started to shake so. His bow clattered to the ground and, before long, Raven found himself sinking to his knees. A guttural, choked cry rose up from within him.

Not her... not her, too! Memories of himself, freshly brought back from beyond, asking about her whereabouts came rushing back to him. Alexei had said that he hadn't had a use for her.

It shouldn't have been such a surprise. Of course Alexei would lie. He had wanted to cut him off from everything. So why. Why did this sting so much? Why was seeing Casey standing there, bow pointed at him, so wrong?

"Casey...!" He choked back another sob.

"I'm sorry... you seem to have mistaken me for someone," she said. "I am Canary. And I will not let you stand in the commandant's way."

So... she was just as much a puppet as he had been. How long had she been alive? How long had Alexei kept her from him? His breathing quickened. Alexei...

"Bastard...!" Raven's voice broke as hot, angry tears came rolling down amid his grief-filled ones. "Bastard!!" He shot a look back at the man who once had him entangled in his strings. The commandant's sick satisfaction only served to make him angrier.

"Canary, take care of them. Should you fail... well. You'll have served your purpose. The same as the others."

"...Casey... please..." Raven turned to look at her again, hoping beyond hope he could reach her. "It's me... Damuron. Ya gotta snap out of it. I don't wanna do this..." But he could see it in her eyes. She didn't have a choice. Neither did he. So he reached a shaky hand out for his bow again.

He hoped she could forgive him.
