Modern News Companies and Politicalization
Is it just me or is every news channel on Cable, satellite, and the internet focused on making every news broadcast political even when the subject is not? They show you the news and information they provide through their political lens. Many of them accuse the politicians of stoking the flames of the political divide when in truth some of the news outlets do more pushing on politicization and…

You know how bullshit rent is? Elon Musk hasn't paid rent on Twitter's main offices in, like, 6 months, and has Twitter been evicted? Of course not. Apparently, when you're rich or a company, you can just tell your landlords to fuck off and the gov won't do shit to you.

The whole "breasts shouldn't be politicized because the primary purpose of breasts is to feed babies!" can be a fine jumping-off point, but I really wish people thought deeper than that when we talk about the ways in which bodies are politicized and restricted.
Like, why's it that when we talk about breasts, they must have some Higher Purpose? It's true that breasts aren't inherently sexual, but they aren't valuable solely because they can potentially feed a baby. A human body doesn't have to serve a Higher Purpose in order for it to not be legislated against or policed, and I just wish people would remember it isn't always about babies, about other people, about anything else other than the people who have that body.

ᓂᑐᐦᑕᒧᐏᐣ nitohtamowin, the act of listening (red breasted merganser)
2024
hand quilted scrap fabric and seed beads
as i worked on this piece at my home on the colonially occupied land of my native ancestors i thought about the words of palestinian poet marwan makhoul;
In order for me to write poetry that isn’t political
I must listen to the birds
and in order to hear the birds
the warplanes must be silent.
the colonizing genocidal power that continues to lay waste to my people, keeping us poor, unhoused, and sick is the one of the powers contributing to the genocide of palestinians. Indigenous liberation is intertwined globally, land back for me means land back for us all.
Métis (Otipemisiwak) demand a free Palestine.

languages, like people, have been made into the objects of politicized aesthetics—not only is this about the dichotomy between "melodious", "soft", "musical" &c. and "harsh", "guttural", "rough" &c. as generalizations applied to entire languages (even language families), but also (and more importantly) the fact that these descriptions track non-linguistic attributes like racialization and class at least as often as they track phonology. please think about who, historically and presently, is most likely to have their language(s) described in one vs. the other way.

sad news for Ukagaka archival efforts Σ´ω`)
all my archive.org uploads have suddenly been deleted following the data breach that was reported around 5-7 hours ago because I changed my login details, I'll try to re-upload the difficult to track down Ukagaka ghosts I documented and my Ukagaka related CD/floppy-disk rips somewhere and I'm going to try to learn how to host stuff myself (neocities is too expensive to keep paying for extra space on) but just wanted to warn my followers that if you change your archive.org email all of your uploads will be erased, to reset any passwords that are the same as your archive.org login. always remember to back up your work on Ukagaka ghosts and progress to a local drive or hard-drive!! right now a lot of the documentation on how to create your own ghost and the history of Ukagaka is lost but hopefully it'll be back soon

Little or even teenage girls having a phase for hating pink isnt 'internalized misogyny', its a normal reaction to the fact everything for little girls is always pink and they're sick of it?? Imagine everyone tells you you are only allowed to like/wear 1 color ever. Some people just hate things that are enforced like that

something that hindutva types (and north indian supremacists generally, which are overlapping but not quite the same categories) get really angry about is whenever you mention that the people of the indus valley civilization were very probably actually dravidian-speaking "south indians" rather than indo-aryan-speaking "north indians" because indo-aryan speakers didn't exist/half of our ancestors hadn't migrated from the central asian steppe yet. bc indo-aryan speakers are descended from native dravidian-speakers and these central asian steppe peoples and they don't arrive to the region until the time of the vedas which happens much later. north indian supremacists refuse to believe that dravidians could have built the oldest civilization in the region bc it entirely contradicts the hindutva line about north indian hindus being the indigenous people of south asia. anytime this is mentioned hindutvas go fucking crazy like frothing rage it's wild. when u see stuff about hindutvas changing the history books to be more in line with hindutva ideology this is part of that

what do you think is the reason why people hate tobirama so much, his hatred of the uchiha aside?
Context: I am usually specifically involved in the "everything Tobirama did and said were racist politics" discourse. So that is mostly what I am commenting on.
Honestly, I think it is just his prejudice against the Uchiha. Or well, for the most part, at least. Specifically, the reason is that a lot of the stuff Tobirama says and does reads as racist when brought into perspective with our contemporary understanding of the world. I have talked about this at length in another ask on how, while this was probably not exactly Kishimoto's intention, this interpretation of his character is still valid.
What does, of course, factor in as well, is that Tobirama comes off like an asshole a lot of the time and has a sensitivity stat of 0. Furthermore, the group that he is "racist" against is fairly well-liked in the fandom. It is very similar to how many fans hate Danzo more than Orochimaru - Not because one is actually worse than the other, but because he harmed their favorite characters. It is not entirely rational but it is valid nevertheless, and I personally share that sentiment.
The discourse surrounding Tobirama was 100% inevitable and this is both good and bad. For one, it showcases that we as a community are critical enough to question and empathetic enough to reject racist ideas. But also, many of those discussions still seem to miss the point entirely.
There are fans who will reject the possibility that Kishimoto ever not intended for Tobirama to be a racist. Fair enough at first (because everybody is entitled to their own interpretation and Tobirama is definitely prejudiced, but I am mostly talking about... everything else), but the same fans will then insult your intelligence because you do not share their interpretation, as though there was enough evidence to disprove yours or only support theirs.
And then there are also fans who agree that Kishimoto did not intend to make Tobirama a racist in his canon but will demand you reject the canon rendition of that story anyway for political reasons. And if you don't, and if you take an intentionalist approach, or if you simply just analyze this intended canon, that makes you a racist, somehow.
But you get the gist. Tobirama, for many people, is not a character but a representation of racist politics. Hating him, therefore, is a vehicle to address real-world problems in a fandom context. And not hating him will then often result in real-world harassment. This pressures people into agreeing with his haters, continuing the cycle.

The desire to present Republicans and their "concerns" as rational when the party and its policies are expressly and loudly ANTIRational, when they reject and vilify rationalism and empiricism and modernity and even Evidence at every turn, even to the point of calling for monarchy and dictatorship over democracy, is deeply baffling to me.
Like: this isn't even new Stephen Colbert lampooned their anti-facts Gut-Based worldview for nearly 10 years on one of the most consistently high-ratings late-night comedy shows in the US.

I genuinely cannot believe that people just… believe everything they see on the internet and believe everything that certain politicians say. Like do you guys not read? Find CREDIBLE sources to back up this claims or dispute them? And politicizing a disaster? Unbelievable.
I genuinely do not care what your political beliefs are. I do not care if you’re voting for Harris or Trump. It’s your right to choose who you vote for, but it’s your responsibility to do your research and not take someone’s word for it. That’s how we end up with misinformation. And politicizing a natural disaster that’s affecting thousands of Americans? That’s just wrong! I don’t care what side you’re on, if you’re politicizing Hurricane Helene, you’re in the wrong. We should be focused on trying to help them as much as possible, not amplifying a political candidate.
We need to let the rescue teams and first responders do their jobs, listen to them, and not play hero. When ordinary people play hero, more people get hurt. Help out where you can, yes, but let’s not send citizen pilots up in the air when it’s DANGEROUS!
Also. I’m not usually political, but every social media I have has been flooded with nothing but politics. I miss when we could all have different opinions and we still respected each other. A lot of you are full of hate. And it shows every time you post a political statement.
