I TAPPED YOUR ASK BUTTON AND AN O'REILLY AD STARTED PLAYING EVERY THO I HAD NOTHING ON????
Okay anyways sorry for being such a frequent asker on the Jedtavius front but do you think Octavius and Jedediah swap folklore/mythology stories?
Like Octavius telling Jed about Apollo and Hyacinthus or Achilles's battle and Jed rambles on about jackalopes?
Cause I do
What a nice idea actually (also don't apologize, it's fine I don't mind)
Tumblr media
My attempt at jackalopes and Hyacinthus and Apollo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I couldn't find a way to fit these all together as one big drawing so I took separate photos

Buddy. You had to send this question from the page that contains the search bar for the library catalog.
Message to library sent from ask-a-question form: My assignment is to read "This is an Article Title" by Name McNamerson. Please advise how to find that.
Reply: Hello Masters Student, I searched McNamerson AND this is an article title in the library catalog, which brings up three top results all with that title and author but different years. If you're unsure which of these is what your assignment needs, please check with your professor.

far be it from me to hand it to any man but i think some of the reactions to dd’s podcast are um. insane. like yes he’s got a bit of an ego problem and a tendency towards acting like an ass. no he’s not irredeemable or to blame for every issue on the txf set or his rship w/ ga. yes he’s a guy and there was going to be some major divergence between his experience and ga’s experience due to misogyny exacerbating what she went through. no i don’t think he’s completely ignorant of this anymore. like idk unfortunately his vulnerability and willingness to think critically about his behavior is extremely endearing to me and while there are many instances of him being an asshole, ego driven, self centered, and having unfair expectations of ga emotionally and otherwise i don’t think that’s all he is or was. idk unfortunately i am a bit bewitched by him, i’m not saying anyone has to like him or give a shit at all and i wouldn’t even go so far as to label myself a ~fan~. but i think just in general this type of vulnerability and humanity and willingness to engage with one’s flaws and missteps and hurtful behaviors and shame being met with such disdain is kind of sad. of course forgiveness or absolution is not the required or even most appropriate response by any means. no one’s opinion has to change. it’s more about being open to a space existing to talk about this stuff, even if it doesn’t change how you feel. or something lmao

this is going to sound bitchy and it is. but its my blog so who the fuck cares. i am so annoyed with all the fucking x reader fic in the challengers tag right now - it wouldn't matter if people were polite and tagged it as such, but it's crazy that you have to block individual "[character] x reader" tags because people don't have the common decency to tag their fic as "x reader" generally to make it easier to filter.

Trying to remember a really vintage furry webcomic which I'm pretty sure started in the mid 90s, but I'm not sure how long it lasted beyond roughly 2006 which is when I read the backlog as an insane teenager.
The main character was a heavyset rabbit who usually wore a shirt and tie and he was the system admin for a... BBS? I think? And I think as the comic went on they migrated to IRC or something but it was yknow, type of huge 90s nerd who makes and hosts an early webcomic type stuff. I think it was entirely slice of life nerd joke stuff. The main character and artist was in his 30s or 40s already which is part of why I'm curious what became of him.
Art style and tone was VERY 80s-90s newspaper comic and the only thing similar I can find is Doc Rat which seems to be of a very similar style and era. I don't know if the one I'm talking about ever transitioned to colour, maybe it did.
Anybody else who is old enough to remember what the fresh hell I'm talking about?

So I only occasionally look at my tumblr activity, yknow, see if anyone thought anything I reblogged was cool enough to comment on, and I get to one post I reblogged where OP took a screenshot of all my "proship/antiship" tags and said "The equivalent of watching the neighborhood kid chuck rocks at a beehive."
First of all, it just felt... kind of rude? I could be reading WAY too deep into it though. That is absolutely not impossible on my part. I dunno, unless someone is being especially stupid, cruel, or ignorant (or it's a funny addition deserving of praise), I've never understood the culture of screenshots and callouts on tumblr posts. This was like, the emotional opposite of "how dare you hide this in the tags."
Second, if someone were to search for those tags I use in Tumblr's search, my reblog of that post wouldn't even come up; those were tags on a reblog, not an original post. AFAIK, tumblr tag searches only bring up original posts. My usage (or overuse) of tags on a reblog would have minimal bearing on people finding me, unless they're the kind of person to look into a post's notes commonly (which, I don't, unless I'm using a post for a blocklist-- usually for TERFs. Is that a normal thing? Do people commonly look in the notes of any post?).
Third, I use all those tags specifically so I cover all my bases for things people want to blacklist, and maybe I'll tag something someone already has blacklisted so they don't have to add another one in the first place. It's like how some people will tag every variation of "blood" or "trigger warning: blood" that they can think of, hoping to be able to spare any new blog viewers from something they've already decided they don't want to see.
Fourth, and finally, all those tags are the equivalent of the bright colors on a poisonous creature. "Don't eat me, it won't be pleasant for either of us." People who use their brains will at worst be mildly annoyed by it; people who think that murdering a character equates to irl murderous predispositions will likely run screaming-- if the post content itself wasn't enough.

Wasn't sure about this, checked, and TRUE!
Source: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2023/01/06/house-speaker-debate-offers-new-views-camera-video/11000824002/
The reason we have video of Kevin McCarthy losing repeatedly and Republicans shrieking on the House floor is that the only person who can tell C-SPAN (or any other media) to turn off their cameras is the Speaker of the House.

“WHAT!!!! You don’t understand????? You must be a zirov!!!”

I don't usually post things like this but this is my home state and I haven't heard much about it on here yet. As of July 2024, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) offices and programs are going to be banned at all public universities in Utah, including the University of Utah.
It's not 100% clear right now what exactly this is going to look like in practice, but here's a highlight from this coverage in the NYT:
Tumblr media
Coverage is light right now with things as uncertain as they are, but it's right on trend with the concerning pattern of recent policy from the state legislature, including a book banning bill that puts teachers and librarians at risk for legal consequences if they have "indecent" materials on their shelves (House Bill 374), a bill banning gender affirming care for teens (Senate Bill 16), and, as the article points out, an anti-trans bathroom bill (House Bill 257) that was also signed this same week (2/6/24).

i tried it and it's crap, don't worry
gotta be honest here, the thing that really prevents me from trying out generative AI for creative works is the terrifying possibility that i would actually like it. i feel like the one kid in D.A.R.E. who got scared straight and now walks around terrified that someone will force me to take one hit of A Weed Cigarette, locking me into an inevitable path of ruin. like sure ok what if it sucks but “what if it’s good” is a greater threat to me.

By Bernie Sanders | July 13, 2024
I will do all that I can to see that President Biden is re-elected. Why? Despite my disagreements with him on particular issues, he has been the most effective president in the modern history of our country and is the strongest candidate to defeat Donald Trump — a demagogue and pathological liar. It’s time to learn a lesson from the progressive and centrist forces in France who, despite profound political differences, came together this week to soundly defeat right-wing extremism.
I strongly disagree with Mr. Biden on the question of U.S. support for Israel’s horrific war against the Palestinian people. The United States should not provide Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing extremist government with another nickel as it continues to create one of the worst humanitarian disasters in modern history.
I strongly disagree with the president’s belief that the Affordable Care Act, as useful as it has been, will ever address America’s health care crisis. Our health care system is broken, dysfunctional and wildly expensive and needs to be replaced with a “Medicare for all” single-payer system. Health care is a human right.
And those are not my only disagreements with Mr. Biden.
But for over two weeks now, the corporate media has obsessively focused on the June presidential debate and the cognitive capabilities of a man who has, perhaps, the most difficult and stressful job in the world. The media has frantically searched for every living human being who no longer supports the president or any neurologist who wants to appear on TV. Unfortunately, too many Democrats have joined that circular firing squad.
Yes. I know: Mr. Biden is old, is prone to gaffes, walks stiffly and had a disastrous debate with Mr. Trump. But this I also know: A presidential election is not an entertainment contest. It does not begin or end with a 90-minute debate.
Enough! Mr. Biden may not be the ideal candidate, but he will be the candidate and should be the candidate. And with an effective campaign taht speaks to the needs of working families, he will not only defeat Mr. Trump but beat him badly. It’s time for Democrats to stop the bickering and nit-picking.
I understand that some Democrats get nervous about having to explain the president’s gaffes and misspeaking names. But unlike the Republicans, they do not have to explain away a candidate who now has 34 felony convictions and faces charges that could lead to dozens of additional convictions, who has been hit with a $5 million judgment after he was found liable in a sexual abuse case, who has been involved in more than 4,000 lawsuits, who has repeatedly gone bankrupt and who has told thousands of documented lies and falsehoods.
Supporters of Mr. Biden can speak proudly about a good and decent Democratic president with a record of real accomplishment. The Biden administration, as a result of the American Rescue Plan, helped rebuild the economy during the pandemic far faster than economists thought possible. At a time when people were terrified about the future, the president and those of us who supported him in Congress put Americans back to work, provided cash benefits to desperate parents and protected small businesses, hospitals, schools and child care centers.
After decades of talk about our crumbling roads, bridges and water systems, we put more money into rebuilding America’s infrastructure than ever before — which is projected to create millions of well-paying jobs. And we did not stop there. We made the largest-ever investment in climate action to save the planet. We canceled student debt for nearly five million financially strapped Americans. We cut prices for insulin and asthma inhalers, capped out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs and got free vaccines to the American people. We battled to defend women’s rights in the face of moves by Trump-appointed jurists to roll back reproductive freedom and deny women the right to control their own bodies.
So, yes, Mr. Biden has a record to run on. A strong record. But he and his supporters should never suggest that what’s been accomplished is sufficient. To win the election, the president must do more than just defend his excellent record. He needs to propose and fight for a bold agenda that speaks to the needs of the vast majority of our people — the working families of this country, the people who have been left behind for far too long.
At a time when the billionaires have never had it so good and when the United States is experiencing virtually unprecedented income and wealth inequality, over 60 percent of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, real weekly wages for the average worker have not risen in over 50 years, 25 percent of seniors live each year on $15,000 or less, we have a higher rate of childhood poverty than almost any other major country, and housing is becoming more and more unaffordable — among other crises.
This is the wealthiest country in the history of the world. We can do better. We must do better. Joe Biden knows that. Donald Trump does not. Joe Biden wants to tax the rich so that we can fund the needs of working families, the elderly, the children, the sick and the poor. Donald Trump wants to cut taxes for the billionaire class. Joe Biden wants to expand Social Security benefits. Donald Trump and his friends want to weaken Social Security. Joe Biden wants to make it easier for workers to form unions and collectively bargain for better wages and benefits. Donald Trump wants to let multinational corporations get away with exploiting workers and ripping off consumers. Joe Biden respects democracy. Donald Trump attacks it.
This election offers a stark choice on issue after issue. If Mr. Biden and his supporters focus on these issues — and refuse to be divided and distracted — the president will rally working families to his side in the industrial Midwest swing states and elsewhere and win the November election. And let me say this as emphatically as I can: For the sake of our kids and future generations, he must win.
Bernie Sanders is the senior senator from Vermont.
