Something that really annoys me as a gnc black woman is the focus on "black femininity" in a great amount of black women centered content. Black gender non conforming women are just left out to dry. All manner of videos will mention how black women are "masculized" by media, and how black women should aspire to femininity. There is something to be said about how racism makes many people view black women as inherently more masculine. However, I feel like there's not much ACTUAL representation of masculine black women. I can't even think of many mainstream famous gender non conforming black women besides like Young MA.
If anything, in my perception black women in media are hyper feminine, it's like they have to be to be successful. Think of any black female rapper/artist. Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Saweetie, Latto, Beyonce. They always have a full face of glamorous makeup, eyelash extensions, weave down to their butt, long acrylics, feminine outfits that show their curves. The only reason anyone would ever say they are masculine is just racism.
And don't get me wrong, I love those women, but it depresses me that it seems they are the only model of black womanhood that seems to be represented. Gender non conformity in black women is not very visible in the media and it seems to be discouraged by everyone, even fellow black women. Unfortunately many people who claim to be "pro black woman empowerment" really only mean "feminine heterosexual black women empowerment."

This thread is incredibly important to read.
It is also extremely difficult to read. I don't know if I need to point this out, but the document itself is obviously full of bigotry so please take care of yourself if you choose to read it. Antisemitic phrases like "cultural marxism" and "global elites" appear before the document even really gets rolling, and are mixed in with transphobia, racism, and more.
If you want a taste of how this document starts in the first main section about "The Family", here is a taste:
"This starts with deleting the terms sexual orientation and gender identity (“SOGI”), diversity, equity, and inclusion (“DEI”), gender, gender equality, gender equity, gender awareness, gender-sensitive, abortion, reproductive health, reproductive rights, and any other term used to deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights out of every federal rule, agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists."
It is all bad. ALL of this document is bad, and dangerous, and threatens the lives and the safety of everyone living in this country.

And the most heartbreaking part about this is that these women were the original women, hence why they have the eve gene, a gene that ONLY black women have.
Casting aside the malware of the world’s white nationalist beauty industry, are they not the peak of femininity intrinsically?
Is being female simply not enough for a woman to be feminine?
Do women have to consume products by the industry to be perceived as the intrinsically beautiful beings that they always were?
No. They don’t have to.
Capitalism is a tool of the patriarchy and white colonialism and the beauty industry is simply a prime example of it being so. To ensure women will pursue a fabricated beauty with the upmost desperation, changing the beauty standard every decade to ensure such a standard is unattainable.
Women are majestic beings.
They are the creator. We are all here because of women, after all.
Men are just threatened by the power we hold, that the world would collapse without us.
(This is absolutely not to say that all women are expected to have kids. I will never have kids and I empathise with women who share the same choice. I’m just saying that the world would collapse if women ceased having children and that level of intrinsic power likely horrifies men. That’s why these cowardly power hungry pricks want to control us so badly.)
black femininity is like femininity on steroids. like if you think it takes ages to adhere to femininity as a white woman, black women are putting in more hours (with even lower average incomes). because being feminine or womanly also means being more white. from "hair care" to "skin care" black women have to edit their appearance to not just look less "manly" but less black. endlessly paying for the sin of being a woman and a black woman on top of that.
and all that work just to get fetishized by gross jakeys at the end of the day.

Please stop ignoring that white supremacy is a huge core element of radfem/terf ideology.
Like yes they hyperenforce gender roles and stereotypes on all cis women, but it is primarily women of color that they target and accuse of being predatory and "not real women" when they're targeting cis women.
The metrics of "real woman vs trans woman" that terfs love to share are almost all just white eurocentric beauty standards. Small nose, thin fine hair, little/no body hair, petite but somehow curvy, hell I've even seen a post saying skin lightness is a determiner.
Terf/radfem circles are racist at their core. You cannot separate radical feminism from it's violently white supremacist roots. You can't have "anti-racist radical feminism", that's a fucking oxymoron. There is a very clean path from terfs to tradfems/tradwifes, to just straight up conservative republican women.
Yes yes always, terfs are super misogynistic. They hurt all women by forcing them back into the little impossible painful boxes that they claim they're fighting. But one of their biggest targets other than trans women is black women. Not to mention ignoring, discrediting, or just straight up trying to erase all the hard work that black trans women did for queer rights.
Radical feminism is very much transphobic, homophobic, and misogynistic. I'm not saying stop addressing it as such. Don't ever do addressing it as such!
But radical feminism is white supremacy in a coat of pink paint. Please never forget that when talking about how it hurts us all.

Still seeing feminists in 2023 claiming that ‘emasculation isn’t real’ and it’s still baffling me.
How can you look at the lived realities of Asian and Jewish men and think “yeah these men totally aren’t emasculated and viewed as lesser males or less masculine than white men and it’s totally not dehumanising or racist or anything 😌” like. Racism against MOC doesn’t always look like portraying them as aggressive or dangerous, it can also look like viewing certain types of minority men as ‘failed’ men and ‘lacking real manhood’ as a dehumanising tactic. Myths about Jewish men previously portrayed them as having periods and being ‘basically women’. Asian men are fetishised and stripped of their manhood frequently by K-pop stans and people online who don’t realise that masculinity and gender roles look slightly different in non-western cultures.
Also… trans men. Who are FORCEFULLY emasculated and feminised against their will, by genocidal bigoted conservatives, and sometimes even somewhat by other queer people telling them to ‘tone down’ their non-toxic masculinity to avoid making others uncomfortable, making themselves dysphoric and detached from their gender identities to remain palatable.
What about disabled men? Are they not also viewed as failing to achieve proper manhood? Are they not also emasculated and viewed as ‘un-male’ or ‘less male’?
Minority men absolutely can and do experience emasculation. And it’s not ‘toxic’ or misogynistic to bring it up. Feminists who care about POC in particular should not be pretending otherwise.

“I’m offended by the entire project and the lack of respect given to me — who lived through a real story and is still living it." -Vili Fualaau, the inspiration for Joe Yoo in May December
I made a post last summer about being iffy on May December because the real life man this affected (Vili Fualaau) is still alive and dealing with his trauma, and he's finally speaking out about the movie. He said he admires films that handle the complexities of real-life events and would have been willing to work together with the crew to tell his story, but he was never contacted by any of the filmmakers.
The lead in May December is Natalie Portman's character and Joe (Fualaau) plays a supporting role in his own story. The screenwriter, Samy Burch, insists that the real life case of Mary Kay Letourneau taking advantage of Fualaau was just a "jumping off point" and not their story. How strange for a film that's supposed to be about how Hollywood exploits and hurts real life individuals for "art" to do the same thing in real life.
I hate that a poc who was preyed on by a white woman, has had his story twisted and exploited by another one almost 30 years later.

Sick of radical feminism's racism problem
Tumblr media
We're assholes for not thinking white men are less misogynistic because they come from some superior european culture?
Blocking me for calling out colonisation as the reason why so many 'cultures' are still backwards unlike the 'good' cultures which have progressed off of the death, rape, slavery and natural resources of nations they colonised is racist. Especially while that system is still in place.
I can't really be bothered responding to this properly so...

sorry if this makes me an evil bigot but people arent entitled to mindlessly follow your beliefs or tolerate bad behaviour/attitudes just because you have more oppressed lables than them.
People should be able to lable idiocy and cruelty when they they see it and being a minority doesnt make it so you cant use your hardships to be manipulative, spout vile horrible things or say things that are simply not true
Its honestly why sj tumblr is such a toxic mess. Its ran by crybullies who despise honest communication and constructive community building. Its just 'im automatically right when i tell someone ~less oppressed~ than me anything and they cant question me. If they do theyre speaking over me and oppressing me by disagreeing"
'Listen to x voices' should mean not automatically disregarding a female, gay, black, asian etc persons views, and not that people should grovel and defer to others because they said so.

I'm gonna tell you guys something you don't want to hear, probably.
But in order to achieve equality, you NEED to stop seeing losing the custody of your kids as the moral failure to end all moral failures.
Native, brown and black families lose custody of their kids for the sole crime of being systematically disenfranchised.
Disabled (both mentally and physcially) folks lose their kids even when they've proven time and time again they're as perfectly capable of taking care of a child as anyone else.
Women lose custody of her children to their abusive husbands all time
If you accept the premise that both prison and psychiatry as institutions are inherently vulnerable to corruption to serve the privileged, then you must agree on this too

"I'm team feminist/feminism!" But will quickly drag a female character through the mud without sympathy for their circumstances just because they don't fit your ideals, will get mad when poc criticize a female character's actions that are very thinly coded in racism and say "support her crimes!" while ignoring how that often leads to the harm of poc characters, will shade woc characters or put them on higher pedestals than their yte counterparts while ignoring the harm they face while trying to meet your standards, will victim blame those who suffer (and are still suffering) from abuse when they act out in ways you deem "wrong" because of it, following up with the last point will mock and laugh at said abuse to uplift another female character (pitting women against women, even when the narrative does not ask for that), will dismiss any valuable argument displayed if the said female character is a little mean but then go and say "why can't female characters be mean? 🙄"
I could go on.
