I do think Blazing Saddles handled its one depiction of native americans very poorly, and the full extent of its representation of chinese workers on the railroad is they were literally just there. not even one single speaking line. unclear if this is worse or better than the redface.

it's fucking phenomenal at lampooning antiblack racism though. extremely blatant, extremely funny satire, which is constantly and loudly saying "racism is the philosophy of the terminally stupid at best and morally depraved at worst, and we should all be pointing and laughing at them 24/7"

plus the main character is a heroic black man who has to navigate a whole lot of bullshit but is constantly smirking at the extraordinarily stupid racists and inviting the audience into the joke. the one heroic white character is a guy who was suicidally depressed until he met the protagonist and they just instantly became buds, and he's firmly in a supporting role the whole time and happy to be there. the protagonist saves the day with the help of his black friends from the railroad, and uses the position of power he was given to uplift not only those friends, but all the railroad workers of other minorities too, in an explicit show of solidarity.

anyone saying "Blazing Saddles is racist" had better be talking about its treatment of non-black minorities. it had better not be such superficial takes as "oh but they say the n-word all the time" or "they have nazis and the kkk in there!" because goddamn if that's the full extent of your critique I very seriously suggest you read up on media analysis. there is too much going over your head, you need to learn to recognize satire.

IT'S NOW LESS THAN A WEEK BEFORE WE GET MASTERMIND!

So here's everything that we know about Mastermind, just as a quick little recap:

It was confirmed at a panel that Vassago will be making an appearance in Mastermind, meaning that there's less than a week before Vassago's debut, who is voiced by Harvey Guillén. It was also confirmed at the same panel that Vassago is not a one-off character, and will be appearing 'much more' in season 3.

According to this bluesky user, at the YC Con Panel, Vivzie stated that there's an 'incredible song' she's really proud of in Mastermind, the episode also has a specific tone to it and that the mentioned tone of the episode is different from the other episodes.

Finally, here are the scenes in the trailer that we haven't seen in the show so far:

The cloaked figures. "We've got you surrounded!"

The scene where they're trying to escape something. "Get ready for a life on the run gang!"

The IMP gang being attacked by something, we don't know what this something is at the moment, in the hallway where IMP is located.

Vassago in a courtroom, presumably something related to a trial of sorts. "Where is Stolas anyway?" "We need to summon him at once!"

Switch 2 Prices Rant

Actually tagging this post because the points in this poorly organized rant aren't empty, and I do want them see to some extent

NGL, I'm getting fed up with people complaining about Nintendo Switch 2 prices and Switch 2 game prices, when they're only halfway to catching up with inflation since 2005 on the game prices on the most expensive games, which means yes, Mario Kart World is cheaper than Madden 05 was, and they're refusing to acknowledge the actual problem that their own wages aren't going up to keep up with inflation.

Within the (shitty) present system, the problem isn't a luxury good being 450 bucks, it's that you're not being paid enough for what you do.

AND for fucks sake, 450 bucks for a piece of tech that is on the cutting edge of power efficient gaming, is pretty decent.

These guys are out here fixing or improving most of the problems with the previous generation system they made, and keep on not laying off their employees unlike the other big fish, and what they get is people being understandably unhappy about the price and lying about stuff to have a big ol' negativity circlejerk on Nintendo, while saying shit like "it's not a political issues" and ignoring the fact that Videogames are the cheapest form of entertainment there is today, even with these price increases, and the fact that wages being stagnant in an inflationary economy is obviously going to cause problems like this, and the related fact that SOMETHING IS OBVIOUSLY GOING TO GIVE WHEN AN INDUSTRY IGNORES INFLATION ON IT'S PRODUCTS FOR 20 YEARS, AS EVERYTHING ELSE GETS MORE EXPENSIVE, UPPING COSTS ALL AROUND FOR MAKING THE GAMES AND HARDWARE TOO

How SWEET and GENEROUS he is?? ...Gorl, no.. 💔.. when I rewatched transformers prime the second time around, I had this thought running through my head during every episode I watched. Starting from episode 1,

"Okay, so I know in season 3 somewhere Knockout becomes an Autobot. I'm not sure how, but I cant wait to pick up on all the little hints and details leading up to that that make you think Knockout might not be a con/is a kind person. Like sparing someone when he wasn't supposed to, or treating someone's wounds when he didn't have to. Or deliberately letting one of the human children get away because he didn't want to hurt them. Those are all things you could make a Decepticon do to lead the viewer to think they might not be a con."

You know what we got instead? Any opportunity he's had to backstab someone, save his own skin, knock people down, hurt people, unnecessarily toy with people and upset them, get away with wrong doings and making himself look better no matter the cost to others? He absolutely took it with no hesitation.

I need some clearer evidence, like screenshots and gifs because I just do not see him as a good person. He doesn't take his job seriously or care about his patients, he just likes getting to rip people apart while being protected by the Decepticon army.

I'm not trying to start an argument or crap all over a character you seem to like- I'm just trying to say I absolutely do not know what you're talking about. I would like to have my mind changed about Knockout so I can more easily fit him into my AU as an Autobot💔So I'm open to further explanation about Knockout.

(I had planned to just completely wipe away Knockouts character and build a new personality for him because he's just Decepticon all the way to his core.)

Funny you should say that. A while ago I thought about making a comic talking about how Jangles is technically adopted because while I made the other three from scratch, I bought Jangles from a store and dolled him up.

But in the end I never finished the comic because of dried up motivation and I didn't want to give Jangles the title of "adopted". Partly because he actually lines up with other sonas of mine and sometimes looks more related to me than Bibi does. Plus idk it just didn't feel fun/right to call him that.

I feel like Miko never got a moment to connect with Optimus. And There was so much trust and responsibility placed on Jack that felt like it came out of nowhere. I wish he would have spent a lot more time with Optimus before that so the viewer would understand why Optimus picked him <:/

Well for starters,,, In the humans mind they couldn't start the "car" without a key. So the bot could just stay shut down and not move until the human realized they cant start it and go away.

If they tried to hot wire the car and started prying at the plating, the bot could probably kick them out of the cab by transforming their seats and shoving them out the door with them. Then they would just drive away.

Who cares if this human runs off and tells anyone about this haunted car that drove off by itself? Is anyone gonna believe anything the whacko who tried to steal a car has to say? No reason for the bots to chase after him.

But alllllll that aside. If the human got inside and somehow "started" the car or it was already running, I can imagine the bot faking a backfire or shutting themselves down and pretending not to start until the human leaves. 👍

I have certainly heard of it, but I've never watched it <:/

Who is Edwin without Charles

So I got this NGL and it took me a while to answer. I mean, I had the answer almost immediately, but it quickly became a 3000 word ramble and sparked a few side rambles as well. So I tried to pare it down a bit. It kinda worked. So, here goes...

Fair warning, lots of rambling ahead but I tried!

Who is Edwin without Charles. I have TOO many thoughts about this. Firstly, hypotheticals are hard, especially with people, because there are too many variables! And in the case of Edwin, limited data. We see Edwin in the show after 30+ years of being with Charles. We have his flashback with limited shots showing him being different and ostracized by his peers then sacrificed. We know he spent 70 years in Hell. But this flashback doesn't tell us much about him as a person, just more about his peers response and treatment of him. So his actions in the attic scene and Edwin's own descriptions of himself are what we mostly have to go off of for who he is prior to spending 30+ years with Charles.

A few things we know and can assume about Edwin. Edwin is intelligent, studious, and values information and logic. Edwin is fairly straightforward. Edwin is kind (he may not be nice, but he is kind! I'll die on that hill like Charles died in that attic). He believes he is not good with people. He may have believed at some point that he deserved Hell. He does display some ptsd related symptoms and heightened fear response to certain triggers related to Hell. I mean, 30+ years later, he's still very hypervigilant about the potential of Hell finding him. Also, he has a drive and purpose with his detective work.

As for Charles, there are four things I think Charles provides Edwin that significantly impact the Edwin we see 30+ years down the road - I don't think these four things are the only things, but they're what I'm considering heavily in this portion of my analysis. Charles provides acceptance without change (accepting who Edwin is as he is and not expecting or forcing change or masking), a connection to others and the world, SAFETY (in words and actions, Charles not only claims he'll protect Edwin but repeatedly does), and absolution (this will take some explanation, later in the analysis). I think it might be argued that Charles helps Edwin find purpose in detective work, but I think this would always happen, just maybe not as quickly or easily. Reading detective stories to Charles may have made it fresh in Edwin's mind, but I think Edwin would always seek out some self-appointed task or purpose. Plus, he does reveal an ulterior motive of building a case for leniency, so the detective work purpose would eventually come about even without Charles. But, lets remove Charles from the equation.

First, Edwin will always be kind. 70+ years in Hell after being sacrificed by his peers, he still takes the time to comfort and care for an injured and dying boy, putting himself at risk at the same time. He knew Death would come when Charles passed, he explained the light to Charles, but he waits. He waits until Charles passes and even until the light appears. Edwin maintains his inherent kindness through 70+ years of the worst place and the worst people. So I think Edwin will still be kind.

Second, I disagree that Edwin is "bad with people" but he believes he is. This is ingrained from the treatment of his peers (and possibly family) and further exacerbated by being out of touch with the times, being displaced a 100 years out of time. He asks if the women in Niko's family are prone to bouts of hysteria. This would've been common medical thinking in his time. A couple episodes later, he stops himself from using the word hysteria. This implies part of his "bad with people" is lack of knowledge. That all being said, Charles is largely his source of updated information and also a connection to others, smoothing out things when Edwin says something wrong and being a major support for Edwin being himself. Without Charles as a point of connection, Edwin may never learn he isn't "bad with people" and would become a self-fulfilling prophecy. He might withdraw more and, with no one to help talk to clients and smooth out any bumps and missteps, any error would be amplified. So Edwin becomes what he believes he is, "bad with people", withdrawn, and isolated more. He already reduces a lot of interactions to their necessary functions and would just do this to more extreme.

Third, Edwin's PTSD symptoms would probably be worse including increased hypervigilance, heightened flight-freeze response, and anxiety or possible even panic attacks. All of these would be internalized as well as something being wrong with him. Charles offers safety and acceptance of Edwin - he accepts Edwin's reactions without faulting him, ridiculing him, or shaming him. He accepts Edwin sharing as much about Hell as he does (we don't know the extent and clearly he left out details, but he did tell Charles "loads of stories about Hell"). Talking through traumatic experiences and emotions is a huge part of overcoming them and moving past them. Charles offers that to Edwin. Charles also offers safety - stepping between Edwin and a threat at every opportunity, protecting Edwin from physical pain but also coming to his defense in other ways - protecting him from the concept of Hell, the risk of going back, the idea he even belongs there. Charles shows again and again that he'll protect Edwin. Edwin feels safe! And we see this with his clothes. There are only four times we see Edwin without his armor. Twice are unwilling - pain and fear in Hell and on Esther's table. Twice are willing - Ep 6 in his sweater when he plans to confess to Charles and Ep 1 in the office when its just the two of them. Edwin feels safe with Charles and takes his armor off, even when he's about to do the very frightening thing of confessing his feelings. He feels safe. But if Edwin doesn't have that acceptance and safety, I imagine he doesn't progress as much in relation to his trauma. His PTSD symptoms may worsen or at least he stays in survival mode for so much longer.

Which brings me to point four - survival mode and Edwin finding his purpose - detective work. Again, still think he'd be a detective. I just think it'd be delayed. I think Edwin would spend a lot more time in initial survival more than we can assume he did in the show. Without a sense of safety and acceptance offered by Charles, I think Edwin spends longer in survival mode, a constant state of flight. How long would he stay in survival mode, flight mode for? Would he ever feel safe or would it worsen? You do not run from trauma. You do not hide from fear. Without something to help him feel safe, would Edwin have been as trapped in his own fear and trauma as he had been previously trapped in Hell? Charles is not the only reason Edwin moves out of flight/survival mode. Edwin has to do that work himself, and maybe 30 years later he does or has. But Charles would offer a huge support in this that now isn't there. 

Finally, Edwin doesn't deserve to be in Hell, but maybe he believed he did. Maybe, without Charles, he still does. Edwin, when meeting Simon again, says "when you punish yourself, everywhere becomes Hell." Edwin spent the season learning about himself, exploring parts of himself he didn't before. I don't think these word were always something he believed, nor was that self-punishment something he could let go of. Every time Charles or Edwin talk about Edwin being in Hell (except when Edwin is using is as a "you know nothing of suffering" comeback), they point out that it was on a technicality. The only other exception is the attic, when Edwin reveals to Charles who only just escaped Hell. We know he wouldn't have talked about Hell previously in the attic scene, cause of how Charles reacts "chuffed you got out of Hell mate. Sounds hard" and because Edwin hadn't even told Charles he was dying so as not to scare him. A hell-condemned ghost would scare most people. But, in the attic, Edwin also doesn't clarify that he was there on a technicality. 30 years later, that technicality is always mentioned, mostly by Charles. It is very clear that in their 30 years together, Charles has been openly adamant that Edwin doesn't belong in Hell. But Edwin's first time mentioning he'd been in Hell, he doesn't mention the technicality, even as a means to not frighten Charles. Possibly, Edwin wasn't so sure at that point. Possibly, Edwin believed that he belonged there, even if it was only a technicality that got him there. Maybe he believed he was destined for the red light. So, without that defender to not just his soul but his honor and goodness, would Edwin believe he doesn't deserve to be in Hell. 

Edwin without Charles is still kind, still finds purpose, but I think struggles with finding safety and with resulting PTSD, self-acceptance, and absolution, even if its just absolution from his own self-perceived sins.

I relate a bit to the last anon’s ask. I consider myself a multishipper (actually, I ship Dick with someone I don’t see many people shipping him with, I kind of like him and Helena together 🫣), but I just can’t bring myself to like dickbabs. I don’t know, maybe judge me, but I truly believe those moments when Kory was used as a plot device to push dickbabs left me with deep resentment, ngl.

Even nowadays, when they don’t use Kory to boost the couple anymore (as far as I remember), I still think dickbabs is a ship that doesn’t grab my attention compared to other couples. They feel a bit stagnant to me, like a teenage couple that hasn’t really moved on.

And I find it funny when people say that others only got to know dickkory through the cartoon, like, hello? Most people also got to know Batman or any other DC character through cartoons too. I highly doubt anyone here was born reading comics, unless you were alive in the 1940s 🙄.

And that narrative some people use, that the only reason people like dickkory is because of the cartoon, and that if they actually read the comics they’d like the other couple, is the biggest lie ever. The way they say it, you’d think dickbabs is on the same level as Clois, BatCat, or PeterMJ. Because if it really were, you wouldn’t see nearly as many people complaining about that ship.

I'm not a Helena and Dick shipper but I can completely understand why people are and like all ships I'm not a fan of more power to you.

Complaining about the cartoon is really funny to me because like most DC things they're based on the actual comics

Yes the show changed a lot but most of the basic stuff that's needed from the NTT Comics is there. Trigon, Slade, Kory being a slave who escaped, the Hive, Terra, and of course Dick and Kory's relationship. And most shippers I know also read the NTT Comics and love them more than even the show (Myself included)

Plus I'm sure plenty of fans learned about Dick and Barbara through the Batman the animated series. And you don't hear people complain about watching that version before the comics.

Ngl I was thinking the mystery figure in the Meet Me in the Woods opener was Kurt. The shuffle outside before the bar door opened reminded me of the noise his teleportation made. Plus, if anyone could relate to Smilodon Reader being judged about their appearance/family connections it would be Kurt, so it makes sense they allow themself to be swayed by him.

Hmmmm... good guess, very good guess!

If it was Kurt, poor guy is having a heart attack when he realizes the teen next to him is Reader. He just freezes up- then is asking where they've been, what's happened to them, did they get hurt, why are they still the same size and age, have they been eating anything-?! He's trying to hug them or wrap his tail around them, but Reader is having none of it.

Reader, on the other hand, is trying to leave, saying they've got to go, and trying to push this hyper guy who looks like Kurt (he's older now?) away from them, they're trying to go out the door- But they can't escape him. So all they can do is agree to go somewhere for food, and to talk (amd hopefully avoid alerting the X-Men or any other mutants...)

ok so I never really talked about TADC very much here but after episode 3 I think I'd like to talk about the episodes and my opinions on it and stuff so here we go

ok so I really liked this episode! Its probably my favorite of the episodes thus far and it was perfect timing for Halloween! Though I do think the episode where they work at a fast food place will end up being my favorite by the end of the season because come on, look at Jax

Anyways, ep. 3 was great! I've been intrested in Zooble since ep. 1 and feel like until now there's been little to nothing about them in the show. Like, they're just sort of there and never really get screen time. So the little thearpy sessions between them and Caine were amazing.

Also, the reason Zooble's never on adventures definitely was intresting. For some reason Zooble having body dismorphia wasn't on my TADC bingo card but ngl I think I should've seen it coming. It's pretty perfect for them, considering A. This isn't their real body just the digital one created for them, and B. Their appearances thing being all the bits and parts that can be replaced and manhvered was made for this kind of internal conflict

Also, the things we learned about Caine intrigue me LOT. Like, the fact that nobody liking his adventures is enough to break his AI and in turn, the circus, if definitely somthing I'm keeping in mind. Like, this is definitely important information about Caine, both his character and his relation to the circus

But anyways, on to the real star and reason I'm making this post, KINGER!!! Because this man

This sad, silly old man is my favorite. Officially. I liked him a lot in ep. 1 and 2 bc he was so silly. But ep. 3 really made me fall in love with his character.

his backstory was devastating. I feel like we kinda already knew about Queenie and him before this, but the flashback still hurt in the most perfect way. Like, the way he only likes bugs nc SHE WAS AN ENTOMOLOGIST AND LOVES THEM ABDHJSJSHSHJ

Also his whole memory thing is devastating. Like, he only has like this one memory and he only gets it in the dark. You ever wonder why only sheznaya seems to have any kind of diplomatic core? Like we rarely see or hear of any of the other governments interacting in any official capacity. At least that I've heard of.

that is a good question actually

from a lore presepective? i think this stems mostly from the fact all nations have wildly different types of governance. snezhnaya seems to run under the different fatui harbingers, who all answer to the tsaritsa. they have bankers and mayors in their group, and they live in a difficult environment (plus they have traditional non-morally-white organization Goals, and so need to have Reach on all nations), so it would make sense for them to reach out and seek cooperation. assuming you want to buy the idea that they have intentions beyond Fatui Plans for having diplomats, of course. it's also perfectly likely for it all to be a poorly-disguised cover for the gnosis hunt lore-wise as well.

liyue is the closest to them i think, in that it runs under the qixing which used to run under (or parallel to?) rex lapis. now that it's just the qixing, and they're the trade center for teyvat, it makes sense why you'd see relatively prosperous diplomatic relationships with snezhnaya there - but also since they're a bountiful land, they've no need to send out diplomats. besides, there's the fact that the only seemingly functional land trading road in the game is between liyue and mondstadt, who,

are currently without their de jure leader, and jean is mostly just holding the fort till vakra returns. the knights can barely keep monstadt in check so it wouldn't make sense for them to need foreign relations when all they probably need can be obtained from World Trade Hub next door (liyue). this might change with dornman port tho

fontaine also seems to funcition like a more recognizable government, but they also seem so self-suficient (and self-absorbed) to have any need for diplomats. again, they also have a very clear trade route with sumeru in place (speaking of, who the fuck runs sumeru? the akademiya?) sumeru also has clearly established trade routes, and if they are run by the akademiya, are probably too absorbed with research to bother with foreign relationships. everyone comes to study there anyway, diplomats or no, and they send their researchers out to all nations.

inazuma was literally closed until less than a year ago. allegedly. inazuma is, also, the only other one you'll see trying for foreign relationships and diplomatic plays. that's the whole reason why ayaka and ayato were there on the fontinalia festival. so i guess, at the end of the day, the only reason why inazuma doesn't have a diplomatic core the same way snezhnaya does is bc they were literally closed until very recently.

and natlan seems to be closed as well, so we'll have to see.

also, were there any fatui diplomats in fontaine and sumeru? as in, under that pretense? bc we know the ones in mondstadt were there to sus out barbatos, the ones in liyue were there to sus out morax, and the ones in inazuma (which i wouldn't even know if they counted as diplomats) were there to give watatsumi delusions (and yoink the gnosis. i can't remember how signora came into all of this tbh). as far as i recall, there were no 'diplomats' in sumeru, i don't think dottore arrived under that pretense. if he did, we know it was to get scara. and in fontaine- all fatui in fontaine were just house of the hearth members, whom i don't think qualify as diplomats. there might've been 'diplomats' in other world quests, but i can't remember right now. i also can't remember why tf childe was in fontaine to begin with ngl

TL;DR: from a lore perspective, i don't have an answer and it's an interesting question and whatever ideas i have are long as fuck. from a non-lore perspective, this is probably just bc the fatui are the scheeming antagonists out on a hunt for one specific gizmo present in each nation, and so they need spies and information networks and subterfuge n shit. like i'm fairly certain that's the only reason why they seem to be the only ones with a diplomatic core.

Here are my thoughts on all of the The Bear ships (both canon and non canon)

SYDCARMY: They honestly have a special place in my heart( one of if not the main reason I downloaded this app) and I was not ready for the chockhold it was going to have in my life but here I am 🤷🏿‍♀️. I first saw them in an out of context clip while watching a YouTube video ( ot was when Carmy asked Sydney to say yes chef in S1) and i was like oooo they intrigue me and ngl when I finally did watch the show I thought it was just gonna be platonic. However when I saw that last shoot in the S1 finale I was like OOOOO this is a slow burn and then I got to Ao3 and it was history ( as you can tell with my page I have been fighting to the nail with this ship lol).

SYDRICHIE: ngl.... I have a soft spot for this ship 👀 what can I say I love a good enemies to lovers or enemies to friends pipeline 🤷🏿‍♀️. I think it's because they have good banter and they are pretty funny together where I can see but I am so far gone with the Sydcarmy Army that I can't fully commit to this. Also the age gap, lowkey micoraggresstions Richie was throwing at her in S1( he did change so I'll give him that and me not seeing Sydney being a StepMom are so factors too. Regardless, they are my Top 3 Bro-Otps on the show cause I love their friendship and shootout to the Sydrichie girlies tho.

Like idk why this ship brings out the hater in me but it just does ( it's mostly field by the metas I read which give a more perspective about the relationship and how weird it is). Like at first when I watched S2, I mostly just didn't ship them cause I thought they looked related and were boring. i know people talk a lot about the us and UK special relationship but it kind of fell after the Suez and France kind of sneakily stole it didn't he? I mean did the same before the wars

thanks for the ask! ngl, as a londoner, i've always personally felt the representation of the "Special Relationship" as this mega-close and affectionate dynamic is kind of...an un-holistic understanding of the UK or England, as well as of the United States. don't get me wrong, it's one of their most important relationships and there's a lot of deep history there—my issue is mostly with rose-tinted interpretations underpinning it and what biases they showcase. these were heavily biased by Churchill's (imperialist) gaze of envisioning Anglo-American affinity and leadership on the world stage. this interpretation quite significantly downplayed the rivalry, power struggles, conflicts and differences that historians existed between the US and the British Empire, or how US presidents tended to see it in far less majestic terms. like, Churchill rather downplays FDR's vehement disagreements with him over the issue of Indian independence lol or decolonisation (because the US was eyeing the world as a chessboard, re: new markets and also whether or not support for the old colonial power would be a bulwark against or risk soviet or other communist influence).

so, while you're right that Suez was a pretty low moment in US-Britain relations due to the US being pissed at Britain and France jeopardising its ostensible goal of swaying Egypt away from the Soviet sphere of influence (sidenote: Egypt itself was trying to navigate the mess of the Cold War rivalry to secure its interests), i don't really see it as "falling" after Suez or stolen by France simply because that dynamic Churchill painted a picture of never really existed in that way. plus, Europe (France included) and the ex-colonies of the British Empire (like the dominions and India) weighed heavily on British foreign policy/its national outlook too; i tend to find an overemphasis on a rose-tinted view of the "Special Relationship" leads to a lot of US-centrism that shuts out this understanding. to me, Arthur and Alfred's relationship is most interesting when we situate them properly amidst all these other imperial and geopolitical cross-currents. of which Francis is an important one, from the time he helped Alfred during the Revolutionary War, to the Entente Cordial, WWI and the post-WWII world of NATO, the EU and so on.

in hetalia-verse, it's one of the reasons I personally headcanon Arthur and Alfred as father and son. their bond is lasting, forged by the blood, steel and saltwater of empire, and all the familial, deep and troubling implications that implies. they are "stuck" with each other in some ways, because post 1945, it's a familial dynamic of the old king and the young, ambitious crown prince who thinks his father is out of time—and out of line. francis never really "steals" anything because he and arthur's relationship is on a very different axes: francis is the neighbour who has been by arthur's side as his enemy, friend, lover, rival in imperial douchebaggery, ally (for better and also for worse, like in suez...)—and everything in between. whereas arthur and alfred have some real patricidal/regicidal, titanomachy-level father-son power struggles going on, mixed in with this dysfunctional level of understanding and them also colluding together shadily (you are different from him in many ways, there are many things he'll never understand about you—but you are your father's son, alfred; to be powerful is to be tainted).

so in conclusion, i see alfred-arthur and arthur-francis as both very important foundational dynamics crucial to arthur's character, but conceptualised differently from that understanding of the "special relationship" because they're two different kinds of relationships, even if there is the overlapping dynamic of power, rivalry and empire. ✌🏼

Once again, Hakuryuu, he is NOT your friend nor your ally. He owes you nothing. And he is right to call out your naivety. It doesn't matter if you're prepared to risk your ife, because, you goddamn egocentric moron, you're risking the lives of your countrymen, too. You're thinking only about your stupid vengeance quest and accomplishing it. You never. fucking. consider. the consequences.

His entire reaction and rush prove it, really, how Hakuryuu doesn't actually understand what he's doing. He think he does, definitely, but he doesn't, actually. No shit Sinbad doesn't accept. Sure, it's an opportunity, but given the thoughtless way Hakuryuu acts, at this point he'd be more trouble than he's worth as an ally.

Back to my overanalyzing glasses, I don't think Alibaba looks particularly mad here, I actually think he's nervously smiling, or at least attempting to.

Aladdin is smiling, too, and I like how Morgiana is judging. She has to keep her softies safe.

Yeah, to be fair, Ugo did kinda die. Can't blame him for that.

Also, ah, yes, that scene. Later, later, much later we'll get some random extra, that Aladdin and Kougyoku supposedly became friends after that, even Kougyoku saying something like him being the first person to accept her feelings outside of Kou, I think... Yeah, no, no they didn't. That's a retcon. Alibaba is her first friend outside of Kou, and she refers to him as such (eg. Second Balbadd Arc, before Sinbad takes over). Even aside from that, in general we see how Kougyoku acts with people (tbh Alibaba only...) she consdiers her friends, and even BEFORE they are officially friends, searching him to spar etc. They only hung out and Alibaba taught her how to make flower crowns, and it was enough for her. Plus she doesn't acknowledge Aladdin at all in Magnostadt Arc, but she flies up to Alibaba immediately and introduces him as her best friend. On the opposite side, Aladdin also doesn't see her as his friend. Aladdin is friendly. He would have approached her himself.

It's a pretty funny reaction, ngl.

Also, he is rather chill about Kougyoku in spite of all that had happened. Like, obviously, he's not interacting with her etc, but he doesn't, idk, glare at her or anything, either. On the contrary, he finds the shenanigans he's just witnessed rather funny.

And then there's Hakuryuu watching him closely. Insert he wants this cookie so bad, lmao.

All of it deserves to be here. And there will be more.

Hakuryuu is... extremely biased. Even aside from the fact that Sinbad's just told him that Alibaba is similar to him, Hakuryuu immediately expects Alibaba to feel the same way he does. He hates Gyokuen and his cousins for what had happened, and since he knows what Kou'd done, he expects Alibaba to hate him for it. It doesn't matter if he was invovled in it or not, the fact alone that he's related to the imperial family should be enough, right? Since that's how Hakuryuu sees things, then that must be how everybody sees things, right?

Wrong.

Quoting Yudja: "Boy excercizing his free will and agency, choosing mercy, kindness and forgiveness"

And I want to pay attention to the wording. Alibaba doesn't just say "I don't hate you". Alibaba says "I've decided not to hate you"

I genuinely feel like this is one of the most important character-defining moments for him.

He chooses not to hate Hakuryuu for something he, frankly, isn't responsible for. He chooses not to let his misplaced anger direct his choices and actions. He chooses to be kind. It's not about him being a shounen goody-two-shoes, it's about him looking at this shitty world and being like: I won't let you ruin me.

Not to mention, the fact that he chose not to hate Hakuryuu means he thought about it. Alibaba isn't above feelings like hatred and resentment, but he knows how to actually handle them.

Alibaba might have his silly and petty moments, he is just a normal guy after all, but it doesn't change the fact that he is, especially by Magi standards, incredibly emotionally mature.

And I really love that. For a bunch of reasons: 1 - it's a good thing in general, 2 - we have a male character be emotionally mature (and intelligent) instead of a female one, and being good at emotions is something that's usually assigned to women, 3 - it isn't Alibaba being blindly optimistic and naive - Alibaba makes an effort to see for himself what kind of person Hakuryuu is (as far as he knows), and upon seeing him interact with Aladdin, and interacting with him a little himself, he decides that he has no reason to hate Hakuryuu. It's not kindness offered carelessly.

As I've said, he recognizes Hakuryuu's not responsible for what happened in Balbadd.

And Hakuryuu cannot comprehend that at all.

And as I've said, Alibaba is emotionally intelligent enough to recognize that it still might be awkward between them, so while he wants them to speak frankly, he does acknowledge that it might take them some time.

And Hakuryuu's even more baffled.

And, welp, that's the end of the arc.

At some point I was on a different reread, and I was kinda scoring the arcs, and I figured, why not? I'll post abt the other arcs at some point, and I'll focus on this one here, but the scroes for the other ones would be: Dungeon Arc - 7.5/10, Kouga Arc - 7.5/10, Morgiana Arc - 8-8.5/10 (loses a lot by being this short and the Morgiana Problem that I keep talking about), Balbadd Arc - 9.5-10/10 (second best arc in the series iirc, I'd say the only thing it loses a bit for is the slow beginnig, but, well, it was necessary).

Sindria Arc - 7/10 but I'm being generous.

I can't rate it higher, since it's a transition arc, but it gives us a lot of character interactions, and foreshadowing here and there as well as parallels, and, well, for the most part it's good. Just nothing crazy. It's a breath of fresh air between two bigger arcs, but especially right after the emotional punch that was the Balbadd Arc. It's overall a very chill arc, and that's fine, it adds to the world-building as well, and finally officially introduces Hakuryuu as the key character that he'll become later. The beginning is… You've heard me complain about it. The whole fat Aliababa and Aladdin wasn't very good.

Other than that, we've got introduced to the generals, learn a bit more about Sinbad, we see, once again, that Sinbad is far scarier than he usually seems (his talk with Hakuryuu). The birth of Team Zagan, with Alibaba being Alibaba. Honestly, the interactions between the trio were all so very precious, especially Alibaba and Aladdin's. Morgiana with them as well, but hers get a small minus, because even here Ohtaka has a slight tendency of pushing Mor aside. It's a "can see it if you squint" situation, but, yeah, knowing what'll happen later, you can see the signs.

Still, I mean it when I say that I'm being very generous here with that 7, because the whole plot point with Kougyoku and Ka Koubun... It's really, really tasteless, and it's a mild way of me saying it. You've read my thoughts on it, so I won't repeat myself. But aside from these, it's also really... weird? As in, what did these chapters bring to the story? The only relevant thing is that Kougyoku went to Sindria, but that probably could've been arranged differently, so all these chapters really serve is to inform us that: 1) Sinbad is a molester when he's drunk, and it's such a prevalent issue thet the moment somebody accuses him of doing something, the Generals believe it immediately, and they need a literal proof through magic to be convinced otherwise. 2) Ka Koubun is fucking awful, and it really makes you wonder how the fuck is he Kougyoku's Household if he's willing to do something so cruel to her, 3) Kougyoku is too kind and forgiving for her own good, the world doesn't deserve her, and also that she's reasonable and willing to put her feelings and hurts aside for the sake of Kou. The only "good" thing coming out of it is the last one, and even then half of it we've found out in Balbadd already, and the rest could've been shown us in a different way, and nothing would've been lost.

I love the idea of the boys getting adopted by miss Keane sm. I picture at the end Mojo and Him are just confused how this kindly elementary school teacher managed to get three boys who were literally created to do evil (and rebelled against the both of them) to go against their programming and the boys are like ‘because she actually bothered to know and see us and she loved and believed in us when we made it very impossible to and no one else did and also cuz we actually respect her lol’. Look I love me ppgxrrb but I like the thought of the boys redeeming themselves for a maternal figure in their lives because they never had that and they to their shock actually really love it and love miss Keane. Also it contrasts the girls with a loving father nicely.

I'm not gonna lie, my main motivation for having Ms. Keane be the one to adopt the boys was her last name lol. I've said it before, but there isn't a canon explanation as to why Brick would allow the last name "Jojo" near any official documents. Keane sounded/looked the best near their names.

One of my many gripes with PPGxRRB fics is that the girls tend to be the only motivation for the boys to redeem themselves. The good girl that fixes the bad boy trope is just so toxic, and it's lazy. Removing HIM and Mojo from the equation and giving the boys a positive parental guardian (who's a woman) starts the groundwork for the boys becoming better people (and begin challenging their misogyny). BUT, Ms. Keane won't have to bear the responsibility of influencing the boys alone, because as they say, it takes a village. I haven't officially stated this anywhere but Professor Utonium helps out from time to time with advice, he's the only adult around who knows what it's like to raise supers. There's also an OC of mine who acts as a (mostly) positive father figure to the boys as well.

And the boys with Ms. Keane won't just be for the benefit of the boys. Ms. Keane gets development too! Ms. Keane tends to abide by a strict, logical set of rules. She doesn't allow the Powerpuff Girls to fight in school even when the lives of others are at stake, she convinces Professor Utonium to change the girls' bedtimes when they were sleeping in class (though to be fair, she had a point, five year olds shouldn't be fighting crime at 11pm at night), and she dumps Professor Utonium because there's no way a cat could've been a criminal. She's tight knit. With the Rowdyruff Boys, she could loosen up and stop viewing the world in black and white.

Plus I'm like 90% sure I'll have Sedusa and Ms. Keane dating each other at the end of the WIP, so they'll have another adult in the corner who can also relate to the boys as a former villain who's rehabilitated.

But NGL, I saw a post on here about the Mayor taking the boys in, and that could be very interesting in itself.

Though for me and my WIPs, Ms. Keane isn't the one that causes the boys to rebel against Mojo and HIM. The Rowdyruff Boys leave on their own. They're elementary school kids, they will eventually get bored and wanna go live their lives. That doesn't mean they aren't the mischievous little shits as we know them to be, they just aren't concerned with the Powerpuffs.

Riddle Rosehearts:

He and Lizzie have an odd relationship. They both have mommy issues but they both want to live up to their mothers' standards. Riddle has a hyperfixation for her mom and a deep seeded pride regarding her, that gets strained when he and Lizzie commiserate about shitty moms. Lizzie feels weird cuz he's nice but he idolizes her mom and that's awkward when you both have bad moms you still love in a strained almost begrudging way. They're good friends but don't seem like it due to the awkwardness of it all

He really gets along with Kitty and Maddie. Strangely Maddie is the one that reminds him of Che'Nya (Kitty does too because duh but personality wise). Always talking in riddles and rhymes but still a very good friend.

Gets introduced to Ginger via Trey and has to fight himself internally to not fucking ask for a strawberry tart from her. He's genuinely curious as to what it tastes like but knows that Trey would grill his ass into knowing which one was better and would face Dorm Card Trey Consequences. 

Trey Clover:

Rebel and always has been.

He's great friends with Lizzie due to her being kinda just a tamer Riddle.

Friends with Kitty and Maddie as well.

Has had baking contests with Ginger. (Friendly? maybe.)

Midkey respects Daring for having that pearly white of teeth. He's a little jealous, but Trey has the leg up because Daring is kinda vapid.

Is weirdly close with Mad Hatter cuz Trey is always able to concoct whatever weird flavor he's asked for.

Cater Diamond:

He's a Rebel 4lifer

He and Goldie are fucking ride or die besties. Swapping influencer tips? Yes. I bet they even got matching endorsements.

Him and Maddie are besties but not as much. He likes how bubbly she is.

Cater also really gets along with Briar and they're able to connect a little about insecurities and socializing stress.

Cater would fucking love it here everything is so aesthetic and his Magicam would blow tf up plus he's so girlie pop I don't think the transition would be that hard for him. He fits in really well.

Deuce Spade:

Rebel 

NGL him and Ace also fit into EAH really well they're good people (most of the time) and their flaws are light hearted enough to survive transplanting. Deuce is just a lil ditzy and has some anger issues but really loves his mom and baby chickens??? Just a little guy energy.

He would get along well with Cerise imo. Their vibes are similar to me, that is the best explanation I have.

Probably has a crush on Raven he also relates somewhat to the bad past but wants to be good things.

Ace Trappola:

Ace is a shitter. Fucking asshole goofster. But he has a pretty decent head on his shoulders.

Ruggie with a more developed Leona and with something solid to stand for would be a force to be reckoned with ngl. Even tho I think Ruggie has the weird trauma impulse that he has to earn his keep or earn others love for him so while I think Leona would be nicer to Ruggie part of that kindness is the unspoken way Leona lets Ruggie "steal" from him or do his laundry or whatever to feel like he has "earned" that money or food when those are just things people should do for you or do their best to provide for you because you exist and you are loved and cared for.

Anyway I just think we'd get a softer and a bit less cynical Ruggie. Not less crafty tho.

Jack Howl:

Absolute besties with the Wolf sisters.

All he wants to do is be a good knight for Malleus. He has wanted this forever. It's like his destiny. But then again he kinda (maybe? Idk I haven't read chapter 7 anything) got to choose this. But he should be loyal to whatever it is Malleus chooses, but what if in this world the book chose some STRANGER to be Malleus' knight and not him? AND THEN WHAT IF

In short he's very likely a Rebel he's just gotta get their.

All in all things would go pretty well together not that ANY of what I said explains that, but in long:

EAH is based on the idea of Destiny v.s Free Will and talks about the deep seeded fears and problems that would come from a society that tells you you must be one thing your whole life when you want to be another. Which goes very well with how the Overblots happen. 

Riddle is pressured and abused by his mother to be a perfect star child and that pressure is too much for him and he snaps. 

Leona is always considered second best and less than his brother. 

Azul has a poorly written (imo) overblot but he wants to feel comfortable in his own skin and feels he needs to do so by being in total control of every situation so he can look good and not feel inferior, as he was bullied in his childhood.

Jamil has to downplay himself to make Kalim look better and is made to live a life where he can never be his true self. 

Vil also has a poorly written overblot (imo) but he wants to feel loved and appreciated and to not be the villain he's always casted as. (Literally Raven's ENTIRE thing)

Idia wants to be a hero, and cope with the guilt of feeling like he killed his brother.

Malleus is grappling with mortality and not having a "proper" family. (Briar does the first half of this in the show)

EAH also does bend and change these "destinies"

Darling being Apple's "Prince"

Daring being with Rosabella when he was certain he'd be with Apple.

In the books, Cedar coming to terms with "being human" without having to be made of physical flesh and bone or being actually human. Thus disregarding the need for her story. 

Apple being the more ruthless between her and Raven when she is supposed to be kind and sweet.

Red and Big Bad being together.

In the books again, Brooke interacting with the story. 

So in long with shit for details and no real argument. I think Ever After High and TWST would make a great crossover and maybe I just want more people to do more idk modern(??) things with EAH. But also I'm a sucker for X but a Highschool/College thing.

"Oops" Episode Rambles

I rewatched the episode for the sake of my rewrite post (plus I just wanted to see the final animation, credit where it's due, the show is fun to look at sometimes), and decided to share my thoughts since I haven't done that for an episode in a while:

Ngl, I'm honestly really indifferent towards Fizzmodeus, like I get that it's most people's positive for this episode but I honestly just don't care about it. I think it's because I'm so jaded to the 99% of dialogue that's sex-related to enjoy the sentimental stuff but also because it's just Bee and Vortex again, and it begs the question of why the shit Stolas' situation is so special (aside from him being Vivzie's baby) when the Sins just do whatever and either hide it poorly or don't hide it at all. Who came up with this hierarchy in the first place? Because the more we go on the more it seems like a thing that only Goetians focus on (which Ozzie should be apart of so what the fuck).

Speaking of Ozzie, I don't get why he's so nice, same with Bee. I'm not asking for everyone to be a shithead 24/7 but the concept of Hell's leaders, the ones who've created and are enabling the world of kill-or-be-killed that we've seen, being 100% friendly is just odd to me. Then again, Viv's idea of Hell is a nonstop party where they're all good unlike the EVIL BAD TOTALLY NOT GOOD angels and Adam so it doesn't surprise me. Also his whole thing about "Lust shouldn't be forced". Um? I'd get it if he were talking about LOVE, but Lust is not something I'd ever consider to be consensual in nature, especially not in Hell. That's all I'll say on the matter because it's a very serious topic, but then again, maybe I should consider myself lucky a topic that dark isn't being butchered by Vivzie. All of that said, I do like Ozzie's voice actor, he's really nice-sounding.

I don't understand what the hell happened with Fizz and Blitzo. Who the fuck was going around saying that Blitzo didn't wanna see Fizz and didn't tell Fizz that Blitzo showed up? I have to assume it was maybe Barbie or Cash (assuming Cash didn't also die in the fire). If it was Barbie I'm not entirely sure why. As far as we're aware (unless they retcon it in later) Barbie shouldn't have seen Blitzo knocking into the cake or leaving Fizz, so if she did it because their mom died, I can't see how she would know that. Maybe someone saw Blitzo and passed that on to Barbie, but the fact of the matter is I shouldn't have to Tetris-style guess and insert explanations for the episode. If any episode was going to be a full on backstory, it should've been this one, not The Circus, especially with Unhappy Campers being before this one.

On a positive note, I think those little fly-dog things are so cute in a kinda ugly way. I do think it's kind of a nice small look into Fizz's mind that he'd have one that's wheelchair-bound because he'd relate to it. Ozzie patching up Fizz was nice too, as much as I don't care for the couple, I'm glad that Fizzmodeus at leasts SHOWS the shit that Stolitz doesn't. And speaking of Stolitz, yeah Blitzo keep telling me all these things Stolas TOTALLY does for you yeah I'm sooooooo sure

And, like other people have said, Stolas was totally pointless and useless like always, and what a nice cool guy who totally isn't bad like the other Goetia when he let that lawyer guy get brutally murdered, like yeah I guess it wasn't really his place to help or anything but I don't think having him smirk and say "Get fucked, little one" is doing him any favors. I do have to wonder if they're actually gonna go through with this Crystal shit. I'm not gonna bother guessing anymore because like I said before, the show will throw a biggest, goofiest curveball at you to try and seem less predictable.

And speaking of curveballs, Crimson and Striker. That's it. That's all I gotta say on that subject. I miss Harvest Moon Festival, man. Like I'm no Striker fangirl who buys all the Striker merch and shit but damn he's so pathetic now. Why did Blitzo have to recreate the shit that happened and shoot the barrel when he could've shot Striker in the face while he was talking? Please, I need someone else on the writing team PLEASE

Hello! So, this might seem like a weird ask. The whole thing is based on the canon world, that is wizards and stuff. Everything that's going on in the books is still happening! I just don't want you to confuse this with a Muggle/No magic AU.

My question is, if Percy—for some random reason please suspend your disbelief here—decided to become an EMT in the muggle world (without using magic that is), how would his family react to it?

Again, the things that happen in the books are still happening, the only thing is that Percy's decided to go into muggle EMT instead of the Ministry.

Like, would they be kinda mad because Percy is putting muggle stuff/outside stuff over the war they're fighting?

Or would they be much more understanding? Maybe think Percy's cooler? Ngl, I'm asking you this for the sake of my daydreams.

Arthur

Arthur is obsessed with muggles. However, he does not seem to see them as equals. In his mind, muggles are poor fools that need to be protected. It's less like fighting for racial equality and more like people fighting for animal rights.

In Book 2, he states:

“Just Muggle-baiting,” sighed Mr. Weasley. “Sell them a key that keeps shrinking to nothing so they can never find it when they need it.. Of course, it’s very hard to convict anyone because no Muggle would admit their key keeps shrinking — they’ll insist they just keep losing it. Bless them, they’ll go to any lengths to ignore magic, even if it’s staring them in the face…"

Then in Book 4, when Fred gives Dudley Ton-Tongue Toffee, he says:

“It isn’t funny!” Mr. Weasley shouted. “That sort of behavior seriously undermines wizard–Muggle relations! I spend half my life campaigning against the mistreatment of Muggles, and my own sons —”

So he probably doesn't think Percy is making a good decision to actually work in the muggle world, but I don't think he gets too upset about it either. If anything, he may see this as an opportunity for him to learn more about a topic that he clearly enjoys, and it could potentially help his cause by having proof (from Percy's testimony) that muggles deserve to be treated fairly.

Molly

I definitely think Molly reacts the worst out of everyone. She doesn't hate muggles, but she certainly isn't overly fond of them either.

She definitely dislikes Arthur's obsession with them (though in her defense, that probably has more to do with him wasting money on it/focusing on it instead of helping her with the kids/house).

In Book 4, Arthur says,

“Ah yes, I can see the plugs. I collect plugs,” he added to Uncle Vernon. “And batteries. Got a very large collection of batteries. My wife thinks I’m mad, but there you are.”

Also, what's even more telling is that in Book 1, when the Weasleys are at King's Cross Station, Harry overhears her say:

"-- packed with Muggles, of course --"

I know that JKR included this line so that Harry could identify another wizarding family, but she should have used something else (like Platform 9 ¾) instead, because they are literally in a muggle train station, so the comment seems unnecessary and rude. Think about if you went to Chinatown and said "packed with Chinese people, of course."

Plus, Molly wants all of her children to work at the Ministry of Magic. This is a comment in Book 4 (about the twins):

“And then there was this big row,” Ginny said, “because Mum wants them to go into the Ministry of Magic like Dad, and they told her all they want to do is open a joke shop.”

This is the same instance where she literally burned all of their order forms. She seems to have (sort of) accepted Bill & Charlie's choices, as well as Fred & George's joke shop (after they make a lot of money), but Percy is the child that she expected to go into the Ministry the most.

There would definitely be a massive row with her.

Fred & George

They likely wouldn't care much, because they clearly don't mind muggles either. In Book 4, after they gave Dudley the Ton-Tongue Toffee and Arthur yells at them, they say:

“We didn’t give it to him because he’s a Muggle!” said Fred indignantly. “No, we gave it to him because he’s a great bullying git,” said George. “Isn’t he, Harry?”

If anything, I think they love that Percy is now the family "disappointment" because they've spent so long getting yelled at by Molly that this is a nice change of pace. Plus, it takes the pressure off them. Even if they open a joke shop in the wizarding world, Molly still won't be as angry with them as she is with Percy.

Suddenly "Perfect Percy" isn't so perfect anymore, and it probably (ironically) improves their relationship.

Bill, Charlie, Ron, & Ginny

They are probably all rather incredulous about the entire thing and think Percy is mental for not wanting to work in the wizarding world (and Hermione encourages this idea because she clearly wants nothing to do with the muggle world anymore), but I really don't think they treat him badly over it.

They probably just think he's finally cracked under all the pressure he puts on himself, and if this gets him to loosen up, then it's not all bad.

I do think Charlie & Ginny would find it a little cool though, and they're both more likely to actually talk to Percy about his new life, whereas Bill & Ron will probably avoid the topic altogether.

Other Thoughts

One of the most interesting parts about this AU is that is has the potential to drastically change the story. If Percy doesn't work for Barty Crouch, then chances are, whoever is in his position doesn't do as good of a job running the department on their own, so people figure out something is wrong with Mr. Crouch much sooner.

Once that happens, they (i.e. Dumbledore) may very well be able to put the pieces together about Barty Crouch Jr., and then his plan fails, Harry never goes to the graveyard, Cedric never dies, and Voldemort never officially returns in a body. So is the war even going on anymore? Possibly not for a few more years while Voldemort tries to capture Harry!

Even if the war continues in the exact same way as canon, I think Percy's job in the muggle world could actually be beneficial. He could be there to prevent some of the damage & protect the muggles, and he could help muggleborns & their families escape through the muggle world in a way that wouldn't be traced back to them.

There's a lot of potential there for a great fanfic! 😉
