Dawn part 4 analysis, here we go! At it again with my ramblings.
Starting off with THE GLORIOUS RETURN OF THE MAILMAN! The moment I saw the flag I was like :O HE’S BACK!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I also got the blue’s clues mail song stuck in my head)
Tumblr media
Hey look, it’s Warriors’ money! And the inkeeper who’s happily admiring the ridiculous amount of rupees Warriors now does not own!
Rip Warriors’ money. It will be dearly missed.
Also no vacancy?? I mean, it’s possible there’s other people staying there, or it’s just a small inn, but... it kinda looks like Warriors literally bought every available room there was. Mad lad.
Tumblr media
I (like everybody else lol) took a crack at figuring out who’s signature was who’s, based on their respective game’s Hylian texts/scripts, order of when they got there, and the OG tags on the comic. So here’s my best guesses—
1. Time is first, which makes sense based on him being the one to take Twilight to the inn
2. Hyrule appears to be next— his games don’t have a written script, but the hylian here is close to Legend’s, so I’m assuming it’s his, based on the fact that he was part of the next group to get to the inn.
3. Four is who I’m least sure about I’ll admit, but seeing as how he came with Hyrule, (and he’s the only Link left I couldn’t identify at all), I’m assuming it’s his.
4. Warriors we know for sure, since the tags say this signature is his. He gets a shout out for being the only Link who can actually write in the lines.
5. Wind seems to be next, as his hylian is very close to what’s here (his signature partially obscures Warriors’ XD)
6. Legend is who I’m going with for this one, but I’ll admit it could be Wild’s since their script is pretty darn close. But once again, based on when they all got to the inn, Legend would make the most sense to be here.
7. Sky is definitely here. His hylian is very unique compared to the others (I think it’s my favorite)
8. Wild is probably next, but same case as Legend, they could be swapped. But once again, probably not, since Wild was the last to get inside.
9. Twilight bringing up the rear! His hylian is unmistakable, and it makes sense that he’d mark his name last. I don’t think he could handle it until he woke up that morning, though I do wonder which arm he wrote it with...
(Rip Mr. Mailman in trying to figure all this out)
Moving on!
Tumblr media
It’s gotta be close to mid-morning by now based on the light, but Sky obviously does not handle waking up at dawn well. It’ll be interesting to see if he stays sleepy during the rest of this arc, or if he'll wake up a bit.
(Side note, Sky looks so soft and fluffy here, I want to hug him)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sky is so relatable in this update, he’s got some serious “I have no idea what’s going on” vibes. That first one he's got such a deer in the headlights look XD
The mailman is just like “you! I’ve been looking for you! Great to see you!” and Sky’s just “I have never met this man in my life” (probably forgot he actually did see him once (because he’s sleepy))
Tumblr media
Four letters, all different languages and dialects... I’m guessing at least one Zelda based on the seal on that blue letter (it seems fancier to me), but I don’t know about the rest. I would guess Malon for one, and maybe another Zelda? Warriors or Wild or Four’s Zelda maybe? Maybe Twilight got a letter from someone in Ordon, or the Resistance!
Only thing I do know is that there’s probably not one for Sky, since he wasn’t immediately like “letter for me! :D”
Tumblr media
Four trying to do something nice and fix Wild’s sword and this guy just laughs at him, rude 😤 At least he didn’t make a short joke, which was honestly what I was expecting. I mean I get knowing that your equipment won’t be enough for the job, but sheesh.
(Also the blacksmith’s goggles look a bit like Gondo’s in skyward sword’s, plus the ones the rescue knights wear, thought that was interesting).
Tumblr media
(Cool pose mode: engaged)
I love this panel!! They all decided to follow Four and help him out just like they did last time, fix the sword and get Wild a good, reliable weapon.
I’ve also never noticed how similar these guy’s hair looks before, especially Warriors and Hyrule’s— if Rulie’s hair was a little shorter and blonde, it would be pretty near identical. Very interesting...
(Plus Wind has the funniest expression, he's so cute)
Tumblr media
We interrupt this rambly analysis to bring you a brief moment of me yelling about Warriors' smile ABHDGFSFKHSBBG LOOK AT HIM that stupid cocky grin and the way he's rolling up his sleeve I'm *swoon*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Four absolutely losing it over Warriors’ jab about teamwork is SO funny, Captain you have no idea how good your joke was. (also Four, bud, you good? Little hysterical there pal)
Also he looks so happy!!! Compare that to any of the faces he was making the night before, he's doing so much better. I’m so glad he’s happy and smiling now, even if it was just at a dumb joke :)
Tumblr media
I don’t even have anything to say about this panel. Just look at it. Glorious.
And one last thing...
Tumblr media
MULTILINGUAL WARRIORS HOLY CROW that's such a cool trait to give him, I am in love with it now that's awesome.
An amazing update as always, it was fantastic all around <3

okay i lied, i am going to be talking spoilers (because i have no self-control, and i've seen other people share spoilers in the magnus protocol tag, so i assume it's fine?). assorted rambling thoughts on the premiere under the cut:
-ngl "rusty quill presents... the magnus protocol" made me so emotional
-ah yes, a civil service data entry job that has you working night shifts for no discernible reason. that's not ominous at all
-i love the new characters already! they all have such interesting personalities and relationships with each other, can't wait to see how they'll be developed in further episodes. colin is probably my favourite so far, we stan a grumpy IT guy
-speaking of colin, i'm glad we've got a scottish character this time! i love TMA to bits, but it had a lamentable lack of scottish accents
-alice is so much fun as well! i love how jonny described her as a "tumblr shitposter par excellence"
-sam is such a sweet guy, but i'm sure he'll be introduced to The Horrors™ soon enough... although maybe he already was! he seemed to be familiar with the magnus institute, and just like the trailer, this episode also hinted at something traumatic in his past that led him to join the OIAR. probably something to do with those dubiously ethical child psychology experiments...
-i hadn't even considered what OIAR would sound like spoken out loud, and it's so awkward lmao. really doesn't roll off the tongue
-i kinda ship alice and gwen now tbh. i'm getting prime "workplace nemeses to lovers" vibes from them
-okay, let's address the thing everyone's probably thinking about: i'm not sure how to feel about jon and martin's - sorry, chester and neil's - involvement in protocol. (i mean, it's not 100% confirmed that it is jon and martin, but it seems pretty likely.) like i've said before, i would have preferred to keep the ambiguity of their original ending, but on the other hand, this could be shaping up to be a really interesting plotline. plus, y'know, i've gotten pretty emotionally attached to these characters (*gestures vaguely at my ao3*), so i wouldn't be opposed to seeing them again!
-i guess the guy alice nicknamed augustus is going to be jonah magnus, then? that idea is just so funny to me. imagine being trapped in a computer with your boyfriend (who stabbed you) and your evil boss (whom you stabbed)
-i really like the vibe of the new "statements"! i particularly enjoyed the forum entries, i always appreciate the use of unique formats to tell a story. it reminds me a little of analogue horror, though of course it's the exact opposite of analogue - you could call it digital horror, i suppose? anyway, much as i loved the more traditional horror story structure of the TMA statements, i think it's super exciting that they're branching out and trying new things with protocol. looking forward to see what else they'll come up with!

did anything in particular make you decide to study grief through solving counting sheep? very much enjoyed chapter 16 but augh my heart
this one’s under a cut because I ramble a LOT here!
so: SORT OF! it’s a long story!
so scs was ALWAYS gonna be about identity. even from day one, when half my original thought was “doing this from three’s perspective would be funny”, there wasn’t a world where the story wasn’t largely about identity, because this is the kind of story you can’t tell at all without it being about that. like it was maybe day two or three of waffling about this au, at least a month before I would actually commit to writing it, that I went “oh three isn’t actually really grian” (albeit in a different way than I ended up exploring it here).
the part about grief came later.
originally, the theme of grief came about because I was trying to decide WHY martyn was about and stealing watchers. that’s when I remembered a common watcher!grian trope: it’s fairly common (at least on the watcher!grian I’ve read, which to be fair is limited) for grian to have assumed the evo crowd was dead and vis versa. and I was like. aha! martyn can be attacking the watchers in vengeance for grian being dead! then I’ll be able to REALLF play with the dramatic irony if already wanted to use, where no one but the audience knew three was grian, because there’s another angle to work at that on!
cue: oh no wait this is about grief again. (see: tumblr post that I’m pretty sure is still semi-viral.)
the thing is, oftentimes “the evo crew thought grian was dead” is played for grian angst, which makes sense in grian-focused angst fics (this is not shade). but I was like. but that’d fuck up the people involved, right. like having your fun mystery game ended by someone actually getting murdered would tear basically everyone there apart, and that’s not even considering that the evo gang isn’t the WORLD’S most communicative people already. so I went… what if I made the story about that? what if, alongside being about three and identity, it was about the evo crew, grief, and how trauma can fuck up your relationships in unique and messy ways?
plus, like. this is a winter soldier fic. a staple here is “the moment steve realizes the winter soldier is bucky”, and while in three’s arc that bit is almost all about it taking the final step to establish its own independent identity, in the other’s arcs, that’s when they have to come to terms with who three used to be. and like, even in a world where three is uncomplicatedly grian, that’s a pretty big grief to have to unpack all over again. but this is a world where three is not grian, where I realized I’d have to tag mcd despite the character who died sort of also being alive, etc. at least there, grief would have to be explored.
also, for the weight of “grian and am I him” to actually hit three, three has to have an idea of how heavy grian is. like, in the original version I had pearl with the line “oh my god why are you grian” as a joke, and three responding “who is grian”. (oh, the early darlings of this au I killed.) but that doesn’t actually hit the same way, thematically, right? because it works best if once the reveal happens, we all know how much of a shadow grian casts.
in that way it comes back to the theme of identity, because identity here is therefore kind of intrinsically linked to grief. that final hurdle three has to cross to figure itself out of “can I define who I am out from under this shadow” doesn’t work unless everyone is really grieving for that shadow, yeah?
and, well, I’m me. I can’t avoid writing grief that long, it’s a theme I tend to gravitate back towards all the time. it makes sense in a fic that ended up actually being somewhat personal thematically that I’d end up back there.
it’s just one of those things. I realized martyn was there to avenge grian and then realized the story all worked so much better if it was about grief.
anyway this was a REALLY LONG RAMBLE but I hope you liked it! a glimpse into my thoughts I guess.

🐺How to use hashtags on tumblr to organize a story!
Tumblr media
It was like paddling in an open sea .... Ok, it really took me 4 years to figure out the thing with the internal hashtags on Tumblr and realize that there is an advantageous sense in them initially only working within your own blog. If you don’t really need them, the benefit isn’t immediately obvious.
Plus, the display of the most commonly used hashtags leads you to assume they are more universally intended. The advantage of internal blog hashtags didn’t click for me - until the moment I actually needed them to bring order to my blog chaos and understood that you can easily sort everything with them, especially when it comes to storytelling.
I originally thought: “I'll make sideblogs for the stories, so I can have everything neatly gathered, with matching colors and background images." However, the hashtags from the main blog don’t work in the sideblogs anymore unless I link them and unless I’ve missed something again. Now I’m wondering if I even need the sideblogs anymore. Probably not. So, new plan:
I’ll post everything on my main blog
tag it with both specific and general tags
using intern unique tags for different supposes
and that’s pretty much it. At the top of a pinned post, I’ll provide an overview of what you can find under which hashtag, and they’ll automatically function as a sorter for an entire internal storyline. Done.
Btw, thanks for the right hints, which made me take a closer look, test things out, and understand how it works by answering my question on it here ...
@figure-it-out-later and @tenyrasims - which made me think about it and especially @satureja13 for the needed key to my head to unlock this blind point🥰. from @satureja13 : ... I just make sure to tag every post properly so I can add new stuff to my pinned post. You can also keep your pinned post clean by making sub posts, like I do for my chapters, for example. ... I can find every event, character, location… within seconds. That’s what I really love about tumblr.
So, what can I do now to satisfy my need for beeing over organization🙈? Technically, I could delete the sideblogs, but I can also use them in parallel, reblogging the respective content there, and thus have everything in a separate place, visually appealing with the story-appropriate colors - for my own peace of mind or for anyone who prefers to read there. But I’ll only reblog, not post the original, so following the sideblogs isn’t really necessary - though of course, you can if you prefer the color-coordinated layout there. If I ever decide it’s all too much, I can delete the sideblogs without losing my original content, as long as I only reblog from the mainblog to the sideblogs.
Is anyone still following? Probably not,😂 but I think this works for me.
Long story short: I’m going to rearrange things once more and adjust the pinned post accordingly... and bring any duplicate content back to the main blog. My old stuff from before the long break will stay here, and maybe I’ll update broken links if I ever get bored - not that I know the meaning of the word, lol. Otherwise, it’ll just stay as it is, since there’s barely anything left in my EA gallery, except for the stuff that can’t be deleted.
Ok, here we go ...

i lied, i just drew these two. (sorry to anyone who expected more, i do still really like this au so i’ll probably add more character designs in the future, i just kinda ran out of steam after drawing my two favorite dudes from it.)
Tumblr media
Gillion (displaced) and Gillian (prime/human gillion/gill with an A) are the partial focal points of my au, Zeros To Heroes And Beyond (or ZTHAB.) the au is built off of the patreon just roll what-if oneshot, Zeros To Heroes, in which albatrio + ollie are wannabe superheroes in the prime defenders universe.
(more explanations and versions of the drawing plus some notes on the designs under the cut) (like seriously i go on for a while)
the oneshot itself is nothing particularly thrilling, they’re basically in fortnite. that’s the best way i can think to put it. it’s a battle royale with other wannabe heroes and villains. but it has IMPLICATIONS. chip jay and ollie, they’re from prime in this universe. they even have powers unique to the versions of themselves on mana. but gillion? he’s described as being the exact same. disoriented and excited. same clothes/armor and everything. which really got me thinking
i think the oneshot exists in a timeline where rather than being banished from the undersea, gillion was banished from mana altogether. to a different dimension entirely. one where he’s not supposed to be because, as is established with his friends (and drey ferin at one point) in the what-if, this version of prime has its own versions of characters from mana. so i think it’s only reasonable to assume there’s also already a gillion there. and maybe this human gill knows all this. maybe he’s jealous of his fishy counterpart filling the role he should be in.
thats the prime side of the idea. if you observe the Zeros To Heroes And Beyond tag, you’ll see the development and brainstorming and other ideas i’ve had, including what would happen to the chip and jay on mana without a gillion to drive them forward. it’s also been a pretty collaborative story, if you were a part of adding ideas to this please lemme know so i can credit you.
also feel free to send me asks about these versions of the characters, as well as just the au in general. i’m more than open to questions, suggestions, and the like ¦] oh and you can also use these designs if you want, as long as you @ me so i can see what you did with them
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(additional characters relevant to the au are edyn, finn, lizzie, caspian, marshal john but he’s just kind of there, ava but more so her presence, arlin at some point probably, and of course everybody on mana. and the prime defenders probably are relevant as well.) (i’m also thinking about making prime!pretzel some kind of domestic animal like a cat or a dog. maybe a bird?)

got another bot-spam comment on ao3, but this one is extra weird. let’s do some investigating!
Tumblr media
for those not in the know, The Haunting is my dark whumpy “todoroki gets adopted by aizawa” fic. it’s also 60k words long. so right away i’m doubting this person read it. that plus the generic vibes? bot comment. but i’m also pretty sure i’ve heard of this channel before, specifically because it wasn’t crediting authors. hm. so i go check it out: http://www.youtube.com/@DnWhatIf
first of all, these are the videos i’m greeted with:
Tumblr media
now, i don’t want to bash anyone’s taste, but this is so extremely not my thing. nooooo way. some of these read more like crackfic, which is fine, but tonally the difference is SO much. and just makes it even more glaringly obvious that they aren’t reading the fics they’re spamming or even giving them a cursory once-over (or putting strong filters on the bot? i’m not clear how bot comments work)
because this is the first thing you see about The Haunting:
Tumblr media
i’m guessing, if it wasn’t completely random, it’s the fact that i tagged izuku as a character. and really it’s just lazy, the whole thing. it’s all bots. ai art in the thumbnail, ai voice reading the fic, bot making comment spam for you. zero respect. if this was an actual podficcer i would consider it! hell, i might even accept ai voice readings (MAYBE), if it was obvious there was a human person who cared behind them. it could certainly be a tool for good, since podficcing isn't very common (we love you podficcers. if i had a little bit more confidence i would be one of you).
but anyway, hang on, lets back up a step, because the whole reason i looked into this was the credits issue. the video “what if deku became a teacher at ua” (ugh) (i hate the title gimmick also) is going to be my guinea pig.
so in the little intro (also done by ai), it says “all credits to their respective authors” which, yikes. however, they do link to their permission statement and the fic in the description, so it….could be worse. but also, these are the comments
Tumblr media
(and it continues like that for a bit)
the channel name also has a 4.0 after it [edit: it did when i started this post, then i got distracted for two days, and now it is gone. hm], which implies they’ve had a lot of trouble with keeping it up. so it seems likely that this is the channel i heard about stealing fics, they just finally learned to get permission and give credit to try and keep it up this time. the permission statement on this video is real (i wondered if they would just link to something else and assume no one would check), but even THAT author references being “freaked out” (positive?? unsure) when they heard of people finding their story on youtube. before giving permission to upload with credit. so that’s not great
also this sludgepit of content is absolutely the thing that attracts people with no patience clamoring for updates literally one day after the video goes up. go figure. bad vibes all around.
also, if you’re wondering about the quality of the reading (i’ve stumbled on some pretty good ai voices as of late!), it’s, uh. i don’t actually know about how all this works, but i feel like when you pick a voice to read a story it should at least be able to approximate character name pronunciation. and flow.
but alas.
i also don't want to bash the authors in question but the truth is from the very minimal poking around i did (not giving this channel any more of my time than absolutely necessary), the writing featured is....mediocre at best. which is fine and good for the fandom ecosystem and i will NEVER be anything but happy that people are writing and posting less-than-perfect works, especially since some of these premises are pretty unique and i think it's better to have the fic than not. we all start somewhere, fanfic is an excellent way to practice and get feedback at the same time, etc.
but these channels, these kinds of operations, they're going to prey on new and young authors and that's who is going to be saying yes to them. because they want the exposure, they want to be told their work is good enough for someone else to care to record it for youtube, they haven't been around long enough to recognize this for what it is: someone taking extreme shortcuts to get views and likes and a bit of notoriety off of other people's work. and that's shit.
and remember that youtube videos can be monetized!
now, i doubt this channel in particular has been monetized, although it does meet the minimum requirements as far as numbers go:
Tumblr media
it shouldn't meet the requirements for the monetization policies, specifically these ones:
Tumblr media
especially with the disclaimer in the beginning that the content is not their own--which might be why previous versions of the channel did not give credit. who knows.
however, youtube DID just have some scandals about people making videos that were pretty much entirely plagiarized, which were monetized, so i don't have the highest hopes in the world. still, it doesn't seem monetized, so no strikes against this particular creator for that, at least, but defo something to look out for if anyone ever brings up hosting podfics on youtube.
so yeah, bot spam, not a complete scam this time but definitely really sketchy, bad vibes all around. and i still kind of want to give them permission to use my fic just to see what would happen, lmao

Creating a New Soundset for Dragon Age Origins
Tools needed: DAO Toolset (sorry, I doubt there's a way around this) Audacity with the TrimExtend plugin FsbExtractor (optional) GDApp
If you haven't already, you might want to look at the Toolset tutorial page on importing audio; we'll be doing all of that plus a little extra. ;)
Due to the toolset automatically assigning string IDs, it's a good idea to make a new module to work in, so you can customize the number these IDs start at. Otherwise, you'll likely get conflicts with other mods that also worked in the Single Player module.
First, open up the toolset, and find the soundset templates. They're under Conversations -> _Core Soundsets.
Choose the one that best fits your project. 'Party' soundsets have the most entries, followed by 'Player', then 'NPC', 'Minor NPC', 'Combat', and 'CombatOnly'. If you're not sure, choose a fuller template - you can leave provided entries empty, but you can't easily add missing entries. You also might find it helpful to open up an existing soundset similar to the one you're building, to see which entries are actually used, and about how many lines there are for each. (bit of syntax: I'll be using 'entry' to refer to the soundset line type - e.g. "Combat Attack", "Combat Taunt" - and 'line' to refer to the actual spoken lines under an entry - "Attack!", "Cowards!", etc)
For instance, you'll see that despite the template having multiple types of "Explore Select", the PC soundsets only have "Explore Select Neutral". You'll need more lines for "Combat Attack" and "Combat Battle Cry" than anything else, but only one or two for things like "Hello", "Cheer", "Cuss", "Explore Stealth", or "Explore Trap Detected". And even though they're listed in PC and Party soundsets, some entries aren't actually used by the game at all: "Poisoned" "Gift Not Want" "Bored" "Goodbye" "Thank You" "Good Idea" "Fighting Without a Weapon" Pretty much everything from "Hello" down (with the exception of "Warcry") is only used in the Character Creator, or very rarely by NPCs. There are a couple mods that restore/utilize these entries, but if you only care about what the vanilla game will use, you can skip all these if you want. ;)
Duplicate the template you've chosen, and name it using Bioware's convention ("ss_[name]" for NPCs/followers, or "ss_pc_[unique identifier]" for PC). Alternatively, you can duplicate an existing soundset, but then you have to be careful to replace/remove all existing lines.
I'm going to assume you already have a set of sound files you plan on using, because that's not something I can help you with. For my forays into soundset creation, I ported from Dragon Age: Inquisition. If you'd like to do the same, various soundset files can be found in: DA3/DesignContent/Conversations/Global/Soundsets DA3/DesignContent/Conversations/Multiplayer/Soundsets DA3/DesignContent/Sound/Assets/Exertions
Go through your sound files, and transcribe them to fill in the template.
Tumblr media
You may also want to change the default facial expressions. You can do this under the 'Cinematics' tab, with the 'Emotions' drop-down.
Tumblr media
As you go, rename each sound file to "[stringID]_m". Unfortunately, there's no easy way to just copy/paste this number. -_-
Tumblr media
For non-verbal lines, like grunts and screams, you can either leave it blank or write a description using [desc][/desc] tags (with carets instead of brackets).
Once you've figured out all your lines, you now need to edit them so that the toolset can process them. If you're going to do a lot of work for DAO in Audacity, you might want to change the default settings by going to Edit, Preferences. In the 'Quality' section, change the default sample rate to 24000Hz (you'll have to choose 'other' and manually type it in), and the default sample format to 16-bit. You also may want to change the default open and export directories in the 'Directories' section.
Tumblr media
Open a line in Audacity, and trim the silence by selecting the audio wave, and hitting the 'trim audio outside selection button' (or Ctrl+T).
Tumblr media
(The toolset does require a bit of silence before and after the audio for facial expression processing, but I find it better to trim it and then later add a consistent amount of silence to each.)
Now select the silent part(s) and click the scissors to remove them.
Do any other editing you want now as well, like splicing or volume adjusting.
The last steps are to add silence before and after, and then to export it as a .wav.
I usually do this as a macro:
Tumblr media
To do it manually, select your audio using the little Select button in the blue panel left of the wave, and then go to Effect, Trim Extend, and then add 0.5 seconds before and after. (the toolset wiki recommends 1 full second before and after, but 0.5 seconds seems to work fine for me, at least for soundsets)
Tumblr media
Before we export, make sure the Project Rate in the bottom left is set to 24000 Hz. If it's not, change to it 24000 (it's not one of the default options; you'll have to type it in manually).
Now export it by going to File, Export, Export as WAV. In the bottom center, change the Encoding to 'Signed 16-bit PCM', if it's not already set to that.
Repeat these steps for all your lines.
If there are any template lines you didn't use, delete the blue 'CONTINUE' line above it to remove that branch completely.
If there are entries you don't have any lines for, DON'T delete that entry (it can mess up the exporter). Delete all the blue 'CONTINUE' lines under the entry, and leave the entry there.
Once you have all your lines entered into your soundset template, and all the audio files named & converted, move the audio files to the module toolsetexport folder.
If you're working in a new module, put them in '\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\AddIns\[moduleUID]\module\override\toolsetexport' If you're working in the Single Player module, put them in '\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\modules\Single Player\override\toolsetexport'
Go back to the toolset and select the Root node of your soundset. Then do Tools, Generate VO, Generate VO Local. The toolset will take a minute to process, and you may see a command window for the FMOD processor pop up. If all went well, the log window at the bottom of the toolset should read something like this:
Tumblr media
(unfortunately, it'll also show this if all your lines are missing and were replaced with RoboBrad)
If you were missing some lines, but not all (for me, that usually means I mistyped the string ID), the error will show like this: (the lines "renamed" were missing and replaced with RoboBrad)
Tumblr media
If any of your lines are the incorrect format, it'll show something like this:
Tumblr media
If it processed successfully (with or without RoboBrad), you'll get an .fev and .fsb file in your module's core/override folder.
Windows Media Player used to be able to play .fsb files, but newer versions don't seem to be able to. So, if you want to check the .fsb for errors, you'll have to find a media player that will play .fsb files, or use FsbExtractor to open it up and check the lines one-by-one.
Back in the toolset, make sure the Root node is still selected, and do Tools, Generate FaceFX, Generate FaceFX Local. You'll be able to watch the log as it processes each line.
You should end up with an .fxe and .fxm for each line, in your module's core/override folder (same place as the .fev & .fsb).
Finally, export the soundset either by right-clicking on the tab in the toolset or clicking Tools, Export, Export without dependent resources. This will generate two GDAs in your module's toolsetexport folder (next to your .wav files).
These GDAs are what the game actually reads when looking for a line to say. sse_ss_*****.gda lists all the lines for each entry type by stringID, and sst_ss_****.gda lists how many lines you have per entry type. These GDAs can only be opened by the toolset, not GDApp, since they for some reason use the older GDA format.
You're almost done! You can keep the files where they are now if you want, or move them all to the main override folder. ('\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override')
If you're making a soundset for a companion or NPC, you're pretty much done. You can either find that character's character file (.chr), change the soundset to your new one, and export the .utc; or open up an already-exported .utc with the toolset or TlkEdit, and change the soundset there.
The soundset for a character isn't actually specified in their toolset creature file. When you export the creature file as a .utc, it pulls the soundset from the associated character file (.chr).
If you're making a player soundset, you probably want to make it appear in the CharGen. To do that, you'll need to open up playersoundsets.gda with GDApp. If you don't already have it extracted, it's located in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age\packages\core\data\2da.erf'. You can extract it with either the toolset or pyGFF.
Find a line of the same race/gender you want, and delete the rest. If you want your soundset available for multiple race/gender combos, keep a line for each.
Change the ID to a unique number for each, rename the label to whatever you want to show in the CharGen, and remove the number in StrIDName. Also change the soundset to yours. ;)
Tumblr media
Save the gda, but append something unique, like 'playersoundsets_myvoice.gda'. This tells DAO that this is an extension of the original GDA, not a replacement. The length of the GDA name shouldn't be more than 27 characters (not including ".gda").
Put your new GDA in your main override folder.
Fire up DAO, and make a new character to test your soundset!
If you don't want to add your soundset to the CharGen, you can instead change an existing PC's voice by editing the save game. Follow whuffie's tutorial. Alternatively, if you know a bit of scripting, you can make a console command using the SetSoundSet function.
If you plan on releasing your soundset to others, you only need to include the soundset GDAs, the .fev, .fsb, & .fxe files, and playersoundsets_****.gda. The .fxm files are metadata and not needed, and the .wav files have been compressed into the .fsb.
Common problems: --No sound at all: make sure all the info in your GDA is correct. Alternatively, the game may not be finding your .fsb or soundset .gdas. Try moving them to the main override. --Robot voice: the toolset couldn't find your .wav files when you did the VO processing. Make sure they were in the right toolsetexport folder, or try a different one. --Missing from the CharGen: your GDA is probably missing, or the GDA name may be too long. There's also a limit on how many voice options appear, so if you have other mods that add new voices, there might not be room for yours.

The comments I left look out of order on mobile and idk if it’s the same on desktop, so I’ll just copy and paste them here, with a couple additional thoughts (sorry for probably bombarding your notifications OP) asjakfl:
Somehow found this in the donghua tag haha. And well I see a lot of people already expressing their thoughts, but I honestly think this is pretty subjective—as in, if you don’t like them, even when they get better, it may not be enough for you to like them. It’s all a matter of opinion and whether you vibe with this specific character/couple dynamic! For me, I love Bingqiu because of their contrast (the mighty and elegant, cool-as-a-cucumber (haha) Peak Lord is an actual meme-lord who’s constantly panic-yelling inside and pretending to be cool; the (originally) badass shounen/harem hero is now a clingy crybaby lover), but also because it’s a unique love story. Hualian has obsession in their dedication too, sure, but most readers view it as the healthier of MXTX’s couples and thus hold it on a higher pedestal. Bingqiu is like the skrunkly “low-class” pathetic meowmeow of MXTX’s main ships (that lower class, skrunkly feel is also sort of thanks to the fact SVSSS is, from the start, a parody and a comedy, even with the darker elements and implications), but I do think it’s fair to say that their romance gets better overall. Bingqiu’s main thing is learning to communicate but also healing: Shen Qingqiu’s presence in Luo Binghe’s life teaches him there’s still warmth and love in the world, and that he can still trust humanity. This renders our Luo Binghe, Bing-mei, completely different from his original counterpart, Bing-ge, who has gone the route of a successful xianxia hero and harem male lead, yet cannot trust anyone. Meanwhile, Luo Binghe’s feelings help open up Shen Qingqiu’s ability to confront and deal with emotions and also let people in (and to finally acknowledge that he’s come to see this book world’s characters as more than “just” characters) because that man sucks at addressing said emotions. Because of his preference for compartmentalizing all feelings, Shen Qingqiu is arguably an unreliable narrator and Luo Binghe is actually under a lot of mental duress from outside elements during the plot of the novel that makes him act much more out of control and volatile, which you’ll see more of eventually. I’ll also leave one of my old Twitter threads here that explains what is shippable and lovable about Bingqiu despite—or because of—their flaws. If you can’t view it because you don’t have Twitter or something, apparently it also got reposted on Tumblr. 😆 Oh, honestly I have a lot of threads on Bingqiu lol. Here’s another and another (this one is still one of my favourite things to mull over even now) and another. But basically, Bingqiu is about character growth haha. And they do become more romantic at the end (albeit with some HUGE missteps; for example, thanks to the influence of the sword Xin Mo), but if you still don’t like them at the end… Eh. Some of that “unhealthy” vibe is just kind of a classic BL/danmei couple dynamic—in terms of having an easily jealous and even possessive male lead—albeit with a goofier twist here. Also, I just really like Bunhe (little Binghe) KSGJHDFS. And I mean, if someone you loved and admired who was also once quite kind to you—albeit only after abusing you for a while, who even told you that demons can be good too, suddenly hypocritically shoved you into what is essentially hell without explanation after finding out you are a demon and only ever assumed the worst of you and ran away whenever you tried to talk to him after doing your best to crawl out of that hell to get back to him; and although you worked so hard to become a good hero and a strong protector for him, he continuously refuses to explain anything or even try to get to know the current you... Yeah, all that plus the demonic stuff negatively influencing Luo Binghe... It’s no wonder he kind of broke mkfsjfsjfs.
Tumblr media
Ok SVSS fans help me out. I’m on book 2, almost finished it. And i’m really really not happy with how Luo Binghe’s character has been set up and i can’t sense any romantic chemistry between him and the MC. I know MXTX often drabbles in toxic/controlling/obsessive relationship tropes but this just feels way too off for me. I’m kinda close to stop reading cuz of how frustrated I am with how it’s been going so far.
My question is, does it get better after? Ngl im kinda exhausted with the main couple rn. Like Hualien have the obsessive trope too but their chemistry was impeccable and very con/dub con. But this just feels forced to me.
Help a girl out? :)

I'm not going to bother posting in the tag because the people who need to hear it either already have me blocked or aren't willing to listen. People don't like introspection and considering that they might be mistaken. I'm taking a Tumblr break after this, though I doubt I'll get a response that isn't moving goalposts or more of the same arguments verbatim.
Here we go.
"Dark" Dinluke tropes aren't inherently racist and a lot of the nonsense that's being posted is performative allyship at best and blatant bullying at worst. Or both.
Like, I get it to a degree. The world sucks right now and so many of us feel powerless. As though nothing we can do matters. So it's tempting to go after a target you can actually reach. Like fanfic authors. This is not new or unique to Dinluke. This happens constantly in fandom. Hell, ask the Reylos.
Someone will make a bunch of posts about something they don't like. Except it's not enough to dislike it, they have to have Morally Pure reasons why it's Bad and Evil. It's racist or it's abusive or whatever else.
In Dinluke's case what I can tell is it boils down to A) Pedro Pascal is a POC and B) noncon and general dark fics are always making the POC the bad guy.
Pedro is a white Latino. I've spoken to a few Latine/Latinx people about this because when the first accusations came down my reaction was "oh no, am I unknowingly promoting something racist?" because that's what you should do when confronted with something new. Dig into it and ask people who are actually affected by the issue, if they are willing to lend their time to help you grow.
The overwhelming answer was "What? No. What are they talking about?" While a handful of people cannot speak for an entire demographic, I think they speak louder than the "allies" going on about "racist" tropes.
Plus it's pretty gross to twist someone's actual racial and ethnic identity for your own ends.
As for the second point...the "aggressor" in dark content is.......typically the fandom designated top.
That's it. It happens over and over across dozens of fandoms. You don't have to enjoy any of that content (which is actually tagged really well because the authors want their audience to be able to find it) but it doesn't mean there's some racist conspiracy behind it.
For me, personally, I like BDSM. And in fiction, it can be fascinating or freeing to push past boundaries that are critically important in real life.
Because it's not real. It's fictional. I understand that people who don't share my interests are not always willing or capable of separating the concept of real world rape from fictional noncon, but it sure is tiring to see all the time.
I also love Star Wars, not just Dinluke. And alternate character interpretations. There's so much room to go "ok let's assume X, then what happens??" That's what I love about fanfiction. Hell, my Dinluke week fic is a further exploration on "if Din was Force sensitive when Death Watch saved him and Maul 'adopted' him, then what?"
I love the "then what?" and am not interested in being stuffed into a box because people can't handle the idea of things outside their comfort zone existing. There is no grand conspiracy to trick you into reading stuff.
You're allowed to dislike something. You don't have to make up reasons why it's racist. You aren't solving a real problem. You're just bullying real, breathing people.
I am so disappointed in the number of people I had respect for who only needed the smallest excuse and an "acceptable target" to turn nasty.
Anyway, I'm sure this will be read with reasonable minds and definitely not picked apart looking for a tiny phrase that can be twisted into more bullying.

Wizard breakdown tracker
Welcome to a new and wholly unasked for feature, in which I procrastinate what I should be doing (currently: reading about MRIs, finishing up some Passover kitchen cleaning) in favor of providing a status update on our wizard NPCs, who are as a rule getting their lives flipped and turned upside down in part by the the Mighty Nein. I intend to keep up with this nonsense until such time as Trent Ikithon is dead or as good as.
Note: Caleb Widogast, as a PC and member of the Mighty Nein, is not included on this list. Vess DeRogna is assumed to be still dead unless otherwise indicated. Wizard NPCs who have not made an appearance nor been mentioned in some time will not be included but may be put on the list in future weeks if they turn up.
Ludinus Da’leth: haven’t heard from him in a while but Astrid mentioned him; last we heard he’d lost the Nein in Eiselcross. Probably hanging out and having a great time knowing that Vess DeRogna is missing, presumed dead and that Trent Ikithon is having a miserable time. I bet that smug bastard doesn’t realize his overture to Caleb just made him more complicit and a storm’s a-coming.
Conclusion: 0/10. Pretty sure this man won’t believe he can die until a sword is stuck through him and even then he’ll have some doubts.
Trent Ikithon: according to Astrid, he’s a little twitchy; Caleb’s shown that even when quite literally backed into a corner he’s uninterested in making bargains, and also can capably counterspell him. Plus his underlings let the Nein go and even if he doesn’t know this was intentional, seems like it would be a rough day.
Conclusion: 4/10. Not pulling out the big guns yet, probably, but starting to ramp things up.
Essek Thelyss: Oh, Essek. You poor, poor elf man. Yes, you laid the groundwork, but I have to say I think pacing via floating would be uniquely unsatisfactory in relieving stress. Jester’s messages have made it worse, you’ve been expecting to die every day for the last six weeks, and what exactly did Trent do to you?
Conclusion: 8/10. Please give him some whiskey-spiked tea and sympathy in the tower tonight.
Astrid Beck: Well she’s betrayed Trent like four times in the last week already and, initial reunion conversation with Caleb aside, the Mighty Nein have been fucking up her shit ever since that dinner, so.
Conclusion: 8/10 and rising. Help her Bob, she’s having a mental breakdown in the alley. (god I hope people know sea shanteys other than The Wellerman or this is going to be a joke only I enjoy).
E(a,o)dwulf “Then Perish” Grieve(?): Wulf is a mystery wrapped in an enigma, isn’t he. Here’s what we know: Big. Strong. Forearms. Cut his parents’ throats as a teenager. Sometimes does work at Vergesson. Keeps saying “you look good” to Caleb like he’s a romanceable video game character. Raven Queen, but not sure of whether he multiclassed or is just a religious wizard who lifts. Knows wristpocket and uses it to hide his flask. Joined Astrid in Nicodranas, so in on the plan, but she seems to be the one in charge.
Conclusion: 5/10. Fewer betrayals than Astrid, but he’s definitely at least guilty of aiding and abetting.
Pumat Sol: Missing the Spice Girls already. Some weird guy in a cloak keeps stopping by his shop. You know, the usual.
Conclusion: 2/10, probably a little nervous he’s going to get audited for illegal high level spells. On the other hand, the Assembly’s been leaving him alone - no Vess DeRogna threats for a while!
Allura Vyesoren: I mean, it’s not the first time that a rag-tag bunch of misfits has asked for her help regarding a world-ending power and so far it’s gone pretty good! Also this woman has watched Scanlan Shorthalt cast Wish and survived, she’s got a great marriage and a cool tower, she’s on the Tal’Dorei council; it’s going to take a lot to truly unsettle her.
Conclusion: 3/10. She doesn’t have her staff, and the city is indeed a concern, but she’s been through worse.
Yussa Errenis: AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Conclusion: ∞ /10. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH

@metamatar wrote:
I thought srt was pretty uncomplicated this is so depressing
to be fair, if you just want simple, unstyled subs, that's pretty easy - as you say, .srt does the trick.
But if you want to start doing the kinds of fancy formatted subs that you see in anime fansubs, such as colours and 'karaoke' effects where the subs do not appear all at once, then you run into interesting territory. We're not doing songs, but I did want to use the karaoke effect for dramatic impact on a few lines, and we wanted to add a little extra spice by colouring certain words for narrative reasons. (Plus if we do upload songs down the line, I wanna have the karaoke-sub workflow up and running.)
I am kinda joking in the OP; getting well-calibrated colours and a good video encode is way worse and more complicated than the subtitles. But it is at least a standard problem that a lot of people have, and so the solutions exist: you can just kind of use the tools as is, the difficult part is learning the correct workflows.
Anime fansubbers typically use the Advanced Substation Alpha format, which is amusingly given the extension .ass, and can be authored in tools like Aegisub. This has all sorts of little quirks, and the tooling is less nice than you would like - a lot of the elaborate typesetting you might see in anime subs involves a bunch of hacky lua scripts to layer multiple subtiles on top of each other and stuff like that - but it works, you can generally trust that the renderer used by common players like mpv, mpc-hc and vlc will give a consistent output.
When it comes to web, there is no such common standard.
Youtube actually supports pretty complex styled subs, but it makes it really difficult to actually upload them. Youtube's online editor does not support any formatting and in fact it will strip all formatting from styled subs if you make any changes. Instead, you have to upload them in a special, Youtube-only format called YTT. The way to generate this format is to use a third-party script that someone made, which converts ASS subs to YTT. Great, perfect, that's just what we need!
...except the featureset between ASS and YTT doesn't quite overlap, so if you make a nicely styled karaoke line that works in ASS, doing hacky stuff to make sure the outlines and dropshadows look right and make all the different formatting tags play nice together... then you convert it to YTT, upload it to youtube, and it doesn't work at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here, the karaoke effect failed to trigger (since .ass supports a few different modes for inline karaoke tags, and this one isn't supported by the script), and the doubled-up sub I was using for a drop shadow has appeared on a separate line.
However, there is no .YTT subtitle renderer for mpv. So if you want to test things, all you can do is convert and upload it to Youtube.
Moreover, if you open up the YTT file, it looks like this...
Tumblr media
It's all on one huge lines, there's loads of Unicode character 0x200b, and every sub is duplicated 2-4 times with a bunch of opaque XML tags. I assume the duplication is how it achieves the outline effect.
Probably what I'm going to have to do is manually figure out what all the tags in the YTT format do and edit this in the text editor to work nicely lmao.
So, get all that done, and at least it works right? We can have fancy styled subs just like the big vtubers do. What about Vimeo... ah, Vimeo uses yet another unique subtitle format, called WebVTT, which is at least a standard and not just a format they rolled on their own. According to its documentation, WebVTT also supports a karaoke effect, but... there is no existing converter script that preserves it when converting from ASS so far as I can tell, so I'm probably going to have to edit an existing Python script to make it work. And even then I don't know whether Vimeo actually renders that effect. The only way is to try and see.
Anyway, it's actually not nearly as awful as video encoding for web. Video encoding for web is where artistic dreams go to die on the shores of low bitrates. We've resorted to this ludicrous hack of upscaling the whole video to 4k with lanczos, even though the initial render was only at 1080p, because Youtube was mangling the video at 1080p and increasing resolution is the only way to get a higher bitrate and better codec.
Online streaming video was a mistake lmao. Torrents forever.
mind you if you thought video encoding and colour were bad, don't get me started on subtitles for web

hey ok 3 seconds into tma rewatch and i have Thoughts:
Now, the Institute was founded in 1818, which means that the Archive contains almost 200 years of case files at this point. Combine that with the fact that most of the Institute prefers the ivory tower of pure academia to the complicated work of dealing with statements or recent experiences and you have the recipe for an impeccably organised library and an absolute mess of an archive. (MAG 1)
So this is on a Doylist level part of the justification for why the archives gang do so much practical research on the statements, but the early installment weirdness on not quite knowing how the institute functions yet, but that plus jon a bit before this stating he’s familiar with their “ongoing projects and contracts” and later in the season tim talking about the grad students implies that the institute also does a lot of like. Books and articles about the supernatural. (idk where these are being published bc it sounds like they aren’t necessarily respected enough for most academic presses or journals lol)
But we know Jon was in Research, along with tim and sasha. And later he goes up to help out with the influx of new garbage statements they get around Halloween (MAG 55). So clearly someone  is gong through the new statements, although based on the description they’re mostly p lightly researched- probably calling up ppl mentioned besides the statement giver and saying “hey did this happen?” and when the friend or whoever says “no he said he was gonna go give y’all a statement for a goof” it’s marked closed.
What I would like to posit is that the institute has several functions practically:
the library probably gets a fair bit of funding, so they can get basically any relevant work published and add it to their collection.
This is where you’ll have a lot of the grad students hanging around. probably a handful of other academics from various institutions, too. In addition to the students working on paranormal stuff, I’d guess you also have a fair number from history, folklore, psychology, and a smattering of other disciplines who’re there for rlly rlly niche projects on physics or architecture. Like i’d imagine anyone in the area doing work on spiritualism ends up in the institute library eventually- if they have any primary sources like journals or manuscripts from jonah’s whole gang, for example, i’d assume they’re in the library bc the archives seem to be exclusively statements.
Honestly Im like 50% sure the institute has contracts with whatever like ghost hunting type shows exist in the uk to contribute research and have someone respectable looking come do talking head segments as needed. this goes up to 100% for the usher foundation, bc i KNOW we have hella programs like that in the states. like Finding Bigfoot has a donor plaque in the foyer of the usher foundation
Other contracts and projects are probably with a handful of other, non-entity orgs devoted to the paranormal, plus whatever the Lukases, Fairchilds, et al decide they want.
Research, I would like to propose, is supposedly all one big department, but in practical terms contains 2 factions:
The segment Jon worked with for the most part, following up on statements and artifacts. probably smaller, except when they manage to draft the rest in for like halloween and such. the regulars are probably mostly the ppl jon gets annoyed at for being credulous and thinking every statement’s legit
the rest are ppl under the institute banner who are working in the library, doing research for outside contracts, institute wide contracts, and writing whatever gets published out of the institute. probably mostly more concerned with the supernatural as like. an intellectual exercise than jon would be, instead of finding out what’s legit and what isn’t. otherwise they’re mostly more jon’s type of ppl, with the academic distance etc.
Artefact Storage is prolly a host unto itself. Sometimes research’ll get tagged to get an item’s history but like. only ppl who work there go there
The archives are also their own thing. no one goes there.
Why does this matter? I would like to posit 2 reasons.
The first is that it explains part of why the Institute isn’t v respected academically. Everywhere else would have whatever primary source stuff and unique books they have down in the archives/special collections with the statements. I don’t know a ton about library science, but I don’t think things usually end up split/mixed like they are at the institute. Plus, there is very much an area where the Institute could be a valued collection! If the archives were organized. In theory, the Archives should be a valued and respected resource for folklorists! No one in folklore studies cares if a story is true; as far as they’re concerned, the archives are full of memorates that could be really useful. Like academic texts in folklore will generally have quotes from ppl’s ghost stories (or tall tales or folk songs etc) intercut with analysis of patterns and what they mean. But they’re organized so terribly. If they were devoted to folklore instead of the supernatural, you’d expect a taxonomy of subject- our collection here at my university stuff organized by like “supernatural: religious” “supernatural: non-religious” “customs” etc. But no one would be terribly put out combing through them if they were organized by date or like. at all.
The second is that since the archives and artefact storage are pretty much self contained, most of the daily interaction between institute employees is between people in research and the library. Giving you people like Jon as a put upon minority among “ivory tower” types, from that sub population of researchers and the ppl in the library. Jon’s worked at the Institute for like 5 years, and he’s too himself for a proper rivalry, but it’s very easy to see the people like him and tim who believe that Some Things Are Supernatural and would like proof bumping heads with the rest. Giving him a general dislike for people from the library. AND! an extra reason he takes an extra dislike to martin instead of going “o thank goodness, libraries are way more like archives than research what do we do?” :)

UTAU Tutorials - Posting Covers
Posting covers on the Internet is pretty easy at a glance, but you need to consider the credits of what resources (voicebanks, songs, USTs) you used, what kind of title naming conventions are used, and various tips to get your cover out there.
The bulk of this tutorial is under the cut (as usual)!
Selecting Your Uploading Platform
There are plenty of online platforms to upload your cover to. There isn't a right or wrong platform to use, so just stick with the ones that you like the most.
YouTube
Arguably the most popular platform to upload covers to. If you really want it simple, you can simply upload your cover along with the original PV of the song you covered. Or you can make your own custom PV and upload it. Either choice is fine!
You can also do livestreams on YouTube, and in the case of using UTAU, this can range from tuning covers, mixing covers, or even recording voicebanks.
NicoNicoDouga
This is a video sharing platform very popular in Japan, and is similar to YouTube in various aspects. It has a unique commenting system in which "bullet comments" appear on the video according to the timestamp they are posted on. Other unique features include mylists (playlists), voting and quizzes, and so on.
BiliBili
This is basically the Chinese alternative to both YouTube and NicoNicoDouga, but it mostly resembles the latter in many aspects. The major caveat for this platform is that given China's laws and such, you will need to do the following things to even use the platform:
To sign up, you will need to use your own phone number to verify
To upload videos (and post comments), you will need to take a 100-question exam and score at least an average of 60% to even pass.
To broadcast livestreams, you will need to verify using your ID.
SoundCloud
If you don't feel like uploading videos, you simply upload your covers to SoundCloud. You can even share tracks on your dashboard with the repost feature - as a way to support fellow UTAU users. The few caveats with this platform are that a) you have 3 hours of free upload time unless you pay for a subscription for unlimited uploads, and b) the copyright system is... harsh.
Whyp
See, I would have mentioned Clyp here for the fact that you have lots of space to upload covers, WIPs, and various tests, but ever since they restricted free uploads to subscriptions, it's no longer a viable option these days (unless you have boatloads of money on you).
This is where Whyp comes in. It does the exact same things Clyp does, and you can upload for free. But if you were to upload something privately, it will expire in 7 days unless you upload it to the public. From one perspective, it can be useful if you just want to post a sneak peek of a cover you're working on.
Cover Names and Descriptions
Aaaaand here's the meat of this tutorial.
Titles
There isn't a right or wrong way to format your cover titles, but it is important to at least put in the song title and the UTAU voicebanks you used. Variations of these include:
[UTAU cover] SONG TITLE [VOICEBANK・VOICEBANK]
【UTAUカバー】SONG TITLE【VOICEBANK・VOICEBANK】
【UTAUカバー】SONG TITLE ft. VOICEBANK・VOICEBANK
Description
Now the description is where it's REALLY important to provide credit for the resources you used to make your cover. You have consider the following:
Who made the original song? Composer? Arrangement? Lyrics?
(if applicable) Who made the PV?
Who made the UST/MIDI?
Who mixed the cover? Who tuned the cover?
What voicebanks were used, and who do they belong to?
It's important to credit people for such resources because there are people will want to cover the same songs as you and figure out what kind of resources you used. Plus you don't want people to assume you stole the USTs/tuning/mixing yourself one way or another.
Posting Tips
Some tips to consider when posting covers and promoting them!
Add keywords and tags to your uploads. This increases the visibility of your cover and increases the chances of people viewing it.
Share your cover to friends. They might be amazed that you made a cover featuring singing robots!
Post your cover on social media. It can be on Twitter, Mastodon, Instagram, and even Discord. That's where most of the UTAU community resides, and they might see your cover!
I hope this tutorial has helped those who need a headstart on how to post covers on the Internet. Remember that UTAU is a hobby and not a profession, so don't be too hard on yourself if your cover doesn't have that much recognition! Just have fun making covers, and it will reward you a lot in the future.

20 Questions: Writer’s Edition
tagged by @evax3 💚
How many works do you have on AO3?
9
What’s your total AO3 word count?
35,146
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
GoT
The Vampire Diaries
Supernatural
Harry Potter
The Hunger Games
12 Monkeys
Pretty Little Liars
Bitterblue (Graceling Realm)
Criminal Minds
Twilight
=10 fandoms total, only 3 on ao3 though
What are your top five fics by kudos?
How I met your mother
Too good to be true
If Arya had been at Eastwatch
Oh, to see without my eyes
Oh, will wonders ever cease
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I do my best to reply to everyone because I know how nice it is when the author replies to your comment 😊
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
That would be an unpublished one in which both Arya and Gendry die 😬
What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Hmm, maybe blessing in disguise considering how it starts. Or oh, will wonders ever cease cause that's just a feel good fic, I think.
Do you write crossovers? If yes, what’s the craziest thing you’ve written?
I have written one! It's a multi crossover one shot including Damon from tVD, Dr Cox from Scrubs and Sirius Black from Harry Potter where they meet in a bar and become drinking buddies and vent to each other. Might have potential to be extended and translated into English 🤔 been thinking of adding Dean Winchester at the end anyway...
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I wouldn't say hate, but someone demanded I write longer chapters, and not in a nice, I-need-more way, literally demanded, which I found a bit rude.
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
That's the million dollar question isn't it? 😂 I feel like I'm slowly working up to someday writing explicit smut. I definitely have ideas 😏
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know. Quite the opposite, someone once asked me if they could use the premise of my fic for their own. Which I said yes to. As long as you don't copy paste (parts) of my fics, you're welcome to use them as inspiration for pretty much anything.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I have attempted/started translating HP fic into German several years ago.
Have you ever co-written a fic?
Not yet!
What’s your all time favourite ship?
Gendrya, duh.
What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Staying Over.
It's a one shot collection though, so "finish" is relative but I do have a few more ideas already planned, just not much motivation to write them at the moment.
What’s your writing strengths?
I do think I have unique ideas and if I'm in the zone I usually get the pacing right. I've definitely gotten better at plotting, too.
And weirdly, I think I'm doing alright at dialogue when that's the exact thing I used to struggle the most with. I remember that that was the task in my 15 month creative writing class that took me the longest to complete.
What’s your writing weaknesses?
Descriptions 🙃 I think years of academic writing and editing my own papers to be as concise as possible have done some damage. Plus it's super hard for my constantly fatigued brain to come up with synonyms, so my vocabulary isn't as diverse as it could be.
Also, action. Which is a big reason for why I haven't written smut yet.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in fic?
I think it only really works when you a) don't want the reader/protagonist to know what's being said or b) if it's a language/ expression that is widely known so it can be assumed that most people will at least roughly know what's being said. Otherwise it just becomes a mess with trying to translate within the context.
In the end, it all boils down to the fact that dialogue should always add value. Direct dialogue isn't always necessary.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
The Vampire Diaries.
What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
It's gotta be a tie between my one shot collection and Kink in the South.
If we're talking older fics, at the time I was very proud of a multichapter Kol/OC tVD fic that I never finished.

thanks for the tag!
1) Were you named after anyone?
Considering the passive voice I'm going to assume it's asking about my deadname, in which case I was named after my grandmother. My chosen name is after Nora from Noragami and Nora from Wakfu.
2) Last time you cried?
Genuinely can't remember, it's been months. I'm a pretty apathetic person, I don't cry often.
3) Do you have children?
Not biologically. I do consider my siblings kinda my kids.
4) Do you play sports?
I do martial arts when I get the chance.
5) Do you use sarcasm?
It's my main form of humour. Unfortunately, most of the time it comes off as just me being a dick so I tone it down with strangers and online.
6) What's the first thing you notice about people?
General vibe, plus some unique appearance choices (colourful hair etc) if there are any.
7) What's your eye colour?
Brown.
8) Scary movie or happy ending?
I like my media positive and/or optimistic.
9) Talents?
Languages. I can pick up other people's accents very quickly.
11) What are your hobbies?
Writing, choir singing, reading, sewing, baking, cooking, cleaning.
12) Do you have any pets?
Not at the moment, but in spring I'm buying a hamster and my brother is buying a hedgehog, so we'll be co-parenting those.
13) How tall are you?
169cm.
14) Favourite school subject?
Currently Hungarian. Before, always whichever new language I was learning at the time.
15) Dream job?
Picking up litter in my hometown. Though if you want me to get really wild, I'd love to translate cartoons and anime for dubbing.

Two days ago. I'm not someone who cries often but also, exams lol.
3) Do you have children?
No, I don't.
4) Do you play sports?
No.
5) Do you use sarcasm?
Yes, but only with people I'm close with and believe I can joke with without coming across as mean.
6) What's the first thing you notice about people?
I'm not sure? Maybe the way they talk, or how they dress.
7) What's your eye color?
Dark brown.
8) Scary movies or happy endings?
Happy endings. Never been big of scary movies. If it was between happy endings and tragedies, then...
9) Talents?
I mean, I know I am good at making arguments. That's one upside to the neurodivergent tendency to see links / connections in everything.
10) Where were you born?
(Lmao isn't that like, specific?)

My thoughts on the MCC games
So my mind is still dwelling on MCC. Damn, I loved it.
I thought I’d share my thoughts about each game! (Note: I always watch Tommy for MCC.)
Big Sales at Build Mart. It’s alright. I think it’s good as an early game - I enjoyed that it was first this MCC, allowing the teams to get used to each other and it didn’t matter too much in points. Whereas I kinda dislike it late game - it’s not one I want to be high pressure. In some respects its a lot more chill as you’re less directly competing against others and more working together to build something. It still feels tense and as a viewing experience its alright but painful to see streamers making mistakes which they inevitably do as its so high pressure. The changes of getting rid of the boats was so, so good. Losing Buildmart before was often because you failed a turn and lose so much progress which was way too devastating. much easier to navigate now too. (I didn’t like how in one build Tommy couldn’t see a block properly under glass, but usually the builds are very nice.
Hole in the wall - this one I’ve always really enjoyed watching. It’s a fun game with a great level of difficulty. Tommy’s pretty good at this one too and I like that he has a real habit of messing around in it. This game is the one where Wilbur lost his voice in MC11 after too much shouting. In MCC13 it was singing christmas songs. Something about it just makes everyone want to mess around. I like how although its mostly a solo game, team communication is useful ust shouting out colours and shouting out warnings. I saw Vikkstar being warned about approaching walls before they killed him a couple times by his teammates for instance and I like that. (Contrast ace race where its so hard to give much meaningful advice.) That said, the game is extremely glitchy! Hbomb demonstrated it this round but people have always been sliding through walls plus players with higher ping get an advantage. I would understand if they wanted to shelf it. I think it’d be hard to fix - 40 players in one area with moving slime walls will be so hard to handle. I wonder if they could have 10 separate maps instead or something to make it more feasible to play as I’ll be sad if it has to go.
Skybattle - really really fun from Tommy’s perspective! You can tell he loves it so I love it too. Rounds kinda have a tendency to all end the same way with little bridges towards the centre, might be cool if there was some existing narrow walkways to the middle as well and maybe new maps though I do like the current map as well! Hah, but yeah I love it! It’d probably be too much played too late but its the absolute perfect mid round game and every MCC there’s always really cool exciting plays. Its really fast-paced which sets it apart.
Survival Games - it’s a classic. probably a little frustrating points wise as its a single round meaning an early death is so costly. survival points in this one are worth so much. I seriously enjoy it though it is not one you want too late in the tournament. Also a good opener as its not too intense from the start, even if it gets pretty intense as the map shrinks. The maps for these games are always awesome and well-designed. (I think puffy might have fallen in an inescapable hole though? She was getting attacked at the time so maybe it was escapable but yeah - careful playtesting is important to make sure no spots like those exist. Which is hopefully the case!)
Ace race - I greatly enjoy this game. Tommy’s generally surprisingly good at it which helps. It just seems like a really fun minigame to play. Obviously this MCC the map had some errors and was maybe too confusing. The map was long and every moment had something new to process, a chiller section or two where you can observe and take it in a bit more would have been nice. It is a little fiddly with a lot of different mechanics leading to glitches. Tridents are just annoying! But its one thats a good time. I only dislike how its so much a solo experience - you can try and give advice to your team but its so hard to give useful input unless you’re right by your teammate. I quite enjoy this one being fairly late game as its exciting but not so harsh as the elimination games.
Battle Box: very cool game assuming the map’s fun! (Some MCCs had ones I didn’t care for.) And they remember to never ever give any players TNT ever again. There’s a bunch of tactics to employ, custom items, flanking. It’s just a really nice strategic mini-game. I like how its lots of ranged combat and there’s enough rounds that you don’t feel too bad about a mistake. It’s good anywhere in the tournament. Glad it got added to the practice server as its a lot of fun to watch streamers just play. Though they don’t ever practise the wool rushing tactics on there. xD Shame Tommy’s not built for this game though.
TGTTOS: I love this game! Lots of fun to watch and its kinda solo but also you can help your team and work together with some effort. Hmmm... though some of the individual maps for this game can be very hit-or-miss. I think generally you want like at least 80% of players to complete the map. A few of them have been too long and hard. Lots of punching goes on in this game and I kinda don’t mind. The one with the wool targets was probably a little too confusing. I like most of the original maps for this game aside form the cliffside punching one though I understand the same maps every time would be bad. Rocket jumping seems kinda finicky so I’m not a fan. Tridents, elytras, ice, and bridging are all great fun though and I do enjoy the variety. Again its good anywhere in the tournament!
Parkour Tag - Not a fan. I like it in concept I guess but aah the scoring is annoying. It gives you points for survival which is so dependent on the person hunting you and it feels like there’s strategy about choosing the hunter for each opponent but in reality there’s not. I kinda wish the same person could be the hunter every round just so one person has that role. The maps have never felt that fun as it generally feels like scrambling around. Also this game rarely shifts the scores much at all, the ways points are awarded is just too strange. Maybe a bigger map and longer rounds? I don’t know though. This game is terrible as an end game and I guess its okay earlier. Yeah, I really wish there was a good parkour type game but this one isn’t it for me. (this is still much better than Parkour warrior mind!)
Rocket Spleef - Alright. I feel like this is one that’s hard on new players as rocket jumping is odd - getting kills in this game is also not easy. Hopefully they practice the mechanics on the practice server. That said I do enjoy this one quite a bit, it’s fun to watch. The deal breaker is the map. Some maps are just way better than others. I think by the end of a round the maps should be pretty much destroyed and I think it’d be awesome if rounds ended with only one or two people left alive. As long as its got a good map though it’s plenty of fun! It’s exciting without being really intense or high pressure and three rounds is a good amount. Good anywhere in the tournament.
Bingo But Fast - I don’t know how I feel about this one. Please don’t do it the nether again, that was too much. xD I think this game is too intense for me - it’s really fast-paced as completions start happening right away and earlier ones are worth more points. Also it’s another that is stressful to watch the streamer play non-optimally. That said it is an interesting game and I think its cool to have a mode like survival minecraft - generally I like how many games highlight different fun activities in minecraft. It’s such a varied tournament! Again I like this one best mid-tournament, not too late or too early. Maybe I’d like it a bit more without the locking out. like after the first five completions, the remaining completions of it still get a few points - a fixed amount. This is an interesting game but it’s also a really hard game!
Sands of Time - This one is pretty awesome. A lot of fun to watch even if its so so painful for a streamer to lose.  Nice dungeon crawler feel, with cool maps and exciting traps. The vaults matter a lot to points. I like how less confident players can do safer stuff and its a very team-oriented game in the best possible way. As you don’t know how the other teams are doing it gets pretty intense and works well as a last game. Some traps are a bit annoying and I think ones requiring a second player are cool in concept but a bit too demanding. Also please please never make it out of snow again. People kept missing the snow! That was painful. Tommy’s interesting to watch and has successfully solved some risky traps even if he sometimes makes poor decisions xD
Damn this turned out long! Listen, I love this event. All the games are delightfully unique and challenging and fun to watch. These are just my personal opinions. This is such a well-made and impressive tournament with such a great variety of games testing different things.
Feel free to argue with me about any of these. Sorry parkour tags fans. xD
