look okay i get if you really just wanna focus on the relationship drama and the overarching plot(s) but if you're gonna have 8 seasons of a show you gotta give your characters some hobbies and interests. otherwise they simply are not going to feel like actual people. my disbelief can be suspended so easily you just have to show me that your characters care about something other than whats actively happening in the story. that's it. give em a favorite tv show or an art form they dabble in or a favorite sports team or something. like. dude
