Who picks flowers for the other?

Tav does it for Astarion. I know there is some dialogue about him not liking flowers, but it’s different when they’re a gift from his love.

Tav never buy them. They just collect a small bundle as their walking. They then arrange them in a vase or spare cup, accompanied by a story; some local legend or tale about the flowers or just something they make up on the spot, Astarion can never be sure. Still he listens attentively as the story is just as much part of the gift as the flowers themselves.

Who has a hobby only the other knows about?

Tav knows about Astarion’s many tries at different hobbies.

Post game Astarion finally has the time to figure out what exactly he likes to do. Yes, there’s reading, but he figures out he genuinely enjoys embroidering and sewing. Making something with his own two hands and having something tangible at the end is extremely satisfying. Plus, it helps him clear his mind of anything besides the task in front of him. He’s since expanded this to jewelry making and knitting. Although he’ll die before he admits the knitting part.

How do they hype each other up?

Compliments. Compliments all around.

Astarion specifically goes on and on about Tav’s immense musical talent. Tav is already fairly secure in their abilities, but having somebody in the audience they know truly loves their work is heartening.

As for Tav, they know Astarion has his vanity and is willing to indulge him, complimenting him on his looks and choice of clothing. And if they throw an “I love you” at the end of it, he won’t say no.

How do they express their feelings?

I’m going to just assume you mean their feelings toward each other since if I went through all the emotions we’d be here all day.

Tav is actually a very physically affectionate person who has been denied it for years. Once they get permission to show their love that way, they don’t stop. Hugs for certain, leaning against him, hand kisses, cuddling, they’re all in. Quality time is next on the list. They don’t care what they’re doing so long as they’re doing it together.

Astarion is more verbal in his affections. He’ll just tell Tav how beautiful, talented, and amazing he finds them. He teases and tries to make them laugh. He can be quite the poet when he puts his mind to it. I’ll also add physical affection to the list. It takes him time, but once he understands he’s safe, he doesn’t want to loses the feeling of having them close.

Who’s more protective?

Astarion.

Not to say Tav isn’t, because they are, but it’s less visceral than Astarion. He spent so much of his life afraid that even when he does get together with Tav, it doesn’t lessen his fear. If anything his more afraid because he has somebody to lose for the first time in centuries. He considers ascending not just to keep himself safe, but to ensure he can protect Tav, forever. He’s never felt this way before about anyone. There’s no telling what he’d be willing to do for them.

Who gets jealous easier?

Hard to say. They both have their moments. I’d say Astarion is more vocal while Tav let’s it build up over time.

If somebody is flirting with Tav at a tavern, he’s by their side the next second with an arm around their waist and a smile that’s all fangs. He can also get real petty if he feels like they’re giving other people too much attention over him.

If somebody flirts with Astarion, Tav doesn’t say anything because they don’t want Astarion thinking he’s trying to control him or “too much”. But it hurts and if it happens too many times they’ll crack and ask if Astarion is getting bored of them. It would’ve be the first time. It’d take a lot for Tav to admit they’re jealous, but once they do, Astarion would have a field day.

They’re both working on getting better about it. It’s not a pretty thing.

They come for him while the blooms are still bright, trampling them beneath an army of bootheels, and it's another point against them.

Because she loves the flowers, and he will have to get his minions to replant them when he crushes this threat. He often uses her own words, thrown at him with such vitriol years ago, just to see her eyes roll and barely hide the smile behind. But she's not here with him now. She is safe, he reassures himself.

It's only been a few years with her and he is greedy for a thousand of them. Last month he'd approached her here in this yard, in the suit she'd insisted he wear “for nostalgia reasons, obviously” with the blooms flowering their riotous colors in the golden light of sunset, and kissed her cheek as she stared at him with something that made his heart kick in his chest like a prey animal.

It was terrifying and joyous and his greedy, greedy heart cannot get enough.

He told her so, just a few days before, when he'd learned of this new vampire threat and sent her off to New Orleans despite her furious protests. He couldn't put it into words at the time, that losing her would break him worse than the hunter’s curse ever had. That to touch her was one thing, but to hear her spitfire words only made this stutter step in his heart worse. Instead he’d merely said ‘I need to keep you safe,’ and he knows it wasn't enough. 

He would enjoy his acts of contrition, truth be told, tangled in the sheets with his mouth tracing patterns on her skin.

The wind picks up then, ruffling his hair like it did her dress that golden-tinged summer evening, but this time it carries the scent of vampires instead of Caroline’s own. He keeps his pose casual, hands clasped behind his back, walking back towards the house and avoiding the wildflowers underfoot.  Let them think him clueless and weak, it made their destruction taste almost as sweet as the notes of jasmine in Caroline’s perf-

“No.”

“Yes,” she replies, and he looks up at her, standing in the doorway, her sundress abloom with flowers to match the yard, and his greedy heart thumps.

“They're almost here,.love. If I - if I,” he can't even say it, as if speaking the words could manifest them. He feels the impotent rage rise up, knows his next words will push her away.

Her hand cups his shoulder.and squeezes before he can betray himself. “I know.  But you won't. And you can't ask me to stay away when you're the one in danger. So you're just gonna have to learn to trust me. Plus you just gave me that fancy mini fridge and Im spoiled by how good the wine setting keeps blood at the perfect temperature.”

He grumbles at this, because he doesn't get her choice of diet when she could have it fresh from the tap, but he takes the hand at his shoulder, admiring the glint of sun off of some ancient queen’s ring he'd bestowed upon Caroline, you’ll forgive him for not remembering who, and kisses the palm of her hand, her wrist. 

Her intake of breath is a revelation, as it always is, that she is just as affected as he is. It makes him think that perhaps this madness that takes hold of his greedy heart isn't one-sided. He hoards her gasps like jewels in a dragon’s den. 

The thought steels him and his eyes are wild as he turns to face the onrush that he knows is upon them. Her hand stays clasped in his own, for a moment, and if he has the brief thought of never letting go, it is one borne of a poet’s thoughts that he’ll remember for later, when the path of his brush traps their moments together.

The sun descends, but she still shines to him, monster’s visage above the blooms of her dress, the neckline covered in blood, her hand clutching a still-beating heart. He only has a moment to appreciate her, his brilliant blonde distraction, before he turns back to the fray.

- she could tell regulus was into James and coaxed the truth out of him, and then let him talk about it. They bonded over it actually bc he couldn't understand why she didn't want him, and those conversations helped her come to terms with her sexuality a little bit

- she listened to remus talk about sirius for hours on end and in turn she'd talk about mary

- in year 6 she couldn't stop staring at pandora, and regulus noticed and approached lily about it. That year, they helped each other with james and pandora, telling them what kind of things they like

- she likes flower pressing and knitting and she collects grandma spoons

Oh the tears of joy I wept when I finally got this even after the event... how could I not cry? Look at it! Kunikuni with a bunny! AND it's animated! tho ngl not a fan of the animation

Art and concept aside, it's part of the top 5 because it's actually pretty useful. Decent ATK, one-hit-kill + azure orbs to omni, not to mention its leader skill reduces turns for active skill? Pretty good!

4: [Doppo Poet]

A classic. His first SSR. But it really is good and I do use him a lot because of how strong his active skill is. 100% ATK and 100% marble force increase, and best part is it lasts for 3 turns! Not one I'd put as the leader definitely, but it's a great support for the rest of the team.

3: [Rainy Season]

The first smiley Kuni card I have would be the [Resplendent Banquet] - and imo it's STILL the cutest sprite and skill animation - but aside smile I have to give it to [Rainy Season] for giving us a beautiful, colorful, and amazing leader of a card. I ADORE the skill animation as well, but this card isn't ranked higher because the active skill isn't that great.

2: [Year of the Tiger]

I'm a big fan of the traditional stuff - better if it's got the traditional vibes like this one! The washed out colors, the composition of the main art, and just the overall concept is definitely in my taste. Another smiley Kuni (ofc) but more subtle and more of a proud type. I just LOVE this card because it has a great leader AND active skill. It's just not higher because I'm biased towards...

1: [Joyous Night]

This is my second SSR Kuni ever and it's still my favorite to this day. I gave nearly all my moons then JUST for the art (card change one) because LOOK. He's SMILING. He's HAPPY. He's got his HANDS in his POCKETS. He's HOT in his SUIT-

No but seriously as a concept plus the colors and composition of the main artwork AND the cute contented sprite - I just HAD to get it. Thank you Mayoi for blessing me with this AGH

The reason why it's also one of my all-time favs is because of its active skill. I'm biased towards high ATK (150%) increase + something else, and that something else just happens to be "piercing marble" effect which is super useful. You could finish two waves in just two turns with this one.

3: Fish- I mean [Vivid Color]

It's a strong SR. The leader skill isn't great BUT paired with other SRs its active skill is actually pretty decent. Also, fish.

2: Azure Ki- I mean [Tarot]

Honestly, the only reason why this ranks higher than Vivid Color is because the art is *chef's kiss* HAHA The active skill is meh but at least the leader skill is good!

1: Fish again- I mean [Enjoying Nature]

Great leader skill. Decent active skill. Man's about to enjoy his favorite hobby. Need I say more?

☕️ the Misfits (I just watched a youtube video about them lol) (backup topic in case that one's a poor fit: AFI's various "eras")

oh shit, this is great! i also could do AFI's eras, but the misfits are one of the few punk bands i still listen to, and i used to know like. everything about them--plus a lot of my best fanfic was written about them, haha (back before i took meds when i did my best writing!) so i definitely have some thoughts.

(Side note: davey havok's best era, physically, was sing the sorrow girls not grey video FITE ME that was such a life goals/wife goals look)

misfits i guess can be divided into 3 eras -- original danzigfits, gravesfits, and whatever is happening right now, lol. i actually saw the jerry only and whoever the fuck else incarnation in 2011--i was living in virginia for that year, and it was hell in almost every way and people thought i was weird for wearing black--so i saw misfits were gonna be playing in richmond so i went and actually had a good time, met some cool Older Punks and then some teenagers, and wound up taking a photo with jerry only, who was known for creepily rubbing his eye makeup on girls' foreheads without them knowing? clearly i wasn't immune:

so yeah. and then gravesfits, in the 90s--that was what my ex said was the 'true misfits," and like, most of the songs are pretty doofy to me, cause i'm not really into most "horror" stuff, but they are really fun? i like graves' voice, even though apparently he's a huge dick (i saw him live as well, just cause), and there are some bangers from that era obviously, like HELENA, dig up her bones, saturday night (i'd do this at karaoke for sure), devil doll, etc

but, then there's the original, glenn danzig era fits, and just everything about that era was so important to me. just some good ol italian dudes from our part of the world giving no fucks and performing some truly deranged (affectionate) songs. like idk danzig as a person back then was so much more of a badass and so much crazier than a lot of these punk dudes. i mean it when i say misfits era danzig is one of my top favorite poets. i used to write out the lyrics to "theme for a jackal" in my notebook when i was in school in virginia for that year to try to ward off panic attacks because the lyrics were so engaging--my old url "wetwasteofagirl" was from that song, hahah. wolfsblood? the lyrics--as we can understand them, since that's damn near impossible--are fucking...well, they're a MOOD:

i used to get a lot more like philosophical and intelligent about misfits lore but that was back in the day, lol.

I might just fall even more in love with you than I already am." You could feel the blood rush to your head and you were sure that now you were the one blushing. Your hand leaves Joel's cheek and travels upwards where you carefully brush some strands of his hair away from his forehead and you lean forward to pepper his temple with sweet kisses. Joel chuckles and his arms snake around your waist, pulling you closer to him. These were your favourite moments with him. Not much needed to be said because you understand each other without words.

What I’m reading these days #5

Hey everyone, I hope you're doing all right! It's been a long while since I wrote one of these posts, almost 5 years actually... Yeah, recently I've been more focused on sharing scans than texts like these or artbook reviews, sorry!

Anway, these days I'm reading four cool books at once so I figured I could make you (re)discover something, so let's go!

What a surprise, yes, I'm reading Dragon Ball again, last time was 6 years ago so I thought I could revisit this cool universe that always brings me back to my childhood. In France we have a "Perfect Edition" which has a bigger format than usual mangas, a new translation and all the original colour pages so it's a great pleasure to read! I'm always in awe when looking at Toriyama's watercolours, they were absolutely beautiful.

I'm not going to dive much further into Dragon Ball because I've already talked about it a lot, maybe take a look at this old article.

Now something completely different, if you are an avid TV show enthusiast, you might have watched the sci-fi show The Expanse. I discovered it after a few seasons had already aired and really enjoyed it (except maybe the last two seasons which had some flaws in my opinion). I quickly learned that before being on TV it was a very good series of books by a couple of authors writing under a single name: James S.A. Corey. So naturally I started buying and reading these books, loved them and realised that the adaptation was quite good. It took some years but I eventually finished reading the nine books and at that moment, just when I thought I was out of this amazing universe, I saw that there was a collection of The Expanse short stories published under the title Memory's Legion.

So that's what I'm reading right now and just like the rest of the series, it's very cool and definitely fills some interesting holes in the Expanse's lore (plus I always enjoy good sci-fi short stories)! You will learn a little bit more about the guy who came up with the Epstein drive that made space travel a lot easier in the story, the backstory of a cruel but intriguing character (Cortazar), the life of a young Amos (even before he was called Amos), etc. It's a very good read if, like me, you've finished the main series and still want more!

Let's keep our heads towards the sky for this next book: Moonfire by Norman Mailer. I stumbled upon it in a bookstore in Lyon, France and the cover immediately caught my eye. It's a small but thick book which contains as much text as photos from NASA's Apollo 11 mission (the first time humans beings walked on the Moon back in 1969). Being an astronomy and space exploration fan I just had to buy it and I'm glad I did!

Actually I thought it would be a historico-scientific recollection of this incredible event of the XXth century but that's because I didn't know Norman Mailer! I will let you read his Wikipedia page but he wasn't "just" a writer, he also was a journalist, a poet, an essayist and so on. So instead of simply telling us what happened in that important period of human history, he includes himself in the story as a character and shares his thoughts about the situations, the people, the technology, etc. It makes for a surprising yet very interesting read as he takes this unique opportunity to analyze, criticize even our modern society and more specifically the USA's society of the time.

I'm about halfway through the book and I really enjoy Mailer's way of telling the story but also the incredible photos of the event, most of them taken during the mission itself by astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins, I cannot stop looking at these shots and wonder what their experience was like. They freakin' walked on another celestial body (actually only two of them did while Collins was busy being the loneliest person in the history of Human life, flying above the far side of the Moon)!

A couple of my friends work at a local comic book shop and thanks to them I often discover very cool comics, mangas and bandes dessinées (what we call european comics in France). Also it's worth mentioning that the french publisher Urban Comics (they publish a lot of american comics here) is trying to make a selection of their books more affordable and compact for people who don't have much money or space in their home that they can dedicate to comic books. And so in this effort they have started a collection called "Urban Nomad" in which all prices are below 10€ (approx. 10 USD). The first one I picked is Watchmen.

I have watched the movie adaptation when it came out... 14 years ago (ouch!) and really liked it but kind of forgot about it, which is a good thing because now I can re-discover the story in its original format: on paper!

And what a story! Since the first pages I was sucked in by the strength of writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons and colorist John Higgins. The story is so good and feels so contemporary that I have to keep reminding myself that this was made in 1986-87! If you don't know anything about Watchmen I won't spoil it for you but the story takes place in a version of our world where masked vigilantes are already has-been, one of the reasons being the accidental transformation of a man into a God-like version of himself. Because of this event, the course of history is different from the one we know and live in, and in this context one of the few remaining masked vigilantes (pictured on the cover) is investigating a series of murders among his former colleagues. This is all extremely well integrated into the politico-historic context of the time (though once again it's somewhat different from our reality) and it's easy to recognize the quality of Moore and Gibbons' work!

Hiii! I am literally obsessed w SitH and ur amazing writing and just wanted to point out how the main trio in SitH is very soldier, poet, king (by the oh hellos) coded. Likee cmon colt wld be the king cuz he has the leadership role, reader the poet (I mean the song literally says: “there will be a poet who’s weapon is his word. He will slay you with his tongue”) Girlie did commit genocide with one suggestion. And my bbg Friedrich, he’s got blood on his hands since a very young age ☹️, plus he’s only continuing w the program for his friends, I feel so bad for him cuz I rly wanted him and reader to run away tgether and for him to live a fulfilled life BUT I DONT WANNA LEAVE COLT 😭. Holyyyy i wrote too much, I’m sorry man I just rly needed to plop this off my chest lol. HEY!! omg yes when that trend was going around tik tok it jumped out to me as the most SitH thing imaginable HAHAHA. and i think you’re spot on with how you assigned each character and your explanations/analyses!! i also think that’s one thing i like abt y/n — even though she’s the main/pov character, she’s not necessarily the stereotypical leader type of character that most stories tend to follow. i think colt is a more traditional main character tbh, but that’s what makes it so fun to follow y/n instead!!

y/n and friedrich break my heart every time i think abt them don’t get me started…dare i say worse than her and hadrian ADJSKSJ actually just y/n and any character ever is so tragic because of who she is.

Spoilers for Midsummer Night Dreams and My Mechanical Romance included

Midsummer Night Dreams:

The Wish Bridge: NILE AND LILA MY LOVES!!! They were adorable like I’m actually obsessed with them. How he said “no matter what happens i’ll just keep finding you” and he always did. BUT THE ANGST OF HER ALWAYS HAVING TO LEAVE UGH INCREDIBLE. Then how he wished to take her place because he knew she wanted to get out and live. But when she’s out she tries to find ways to be close to Nile and learns he was always chasing a river to find the bridge he always talks about (and how he always talks about a girl with lilac eyes). How the bridge and her were his favorite place and how his smile makes her stupidly happy. They just make me 🥺🥺🥺. My babies now I’m claiming them. Also the little murderesque love rectangle? between the side characters cracked me up hahah thank you providing humor with the angst you the best.

Avalon: Just know the quote: “Wherever he was, it amounted to undefinable bliss in her presence. She was a magic of sorts, a drug, a fire and a food all her own, and she diminished him wholeheartedly to blissful panic, to heavenly fear, to breathlessness and wonder, all with the spellbinding cruelty of her smile. With her, he felt he could see directly through to his future, and for each glimpse of it that he stole, he imagined it to be a gallery wall, filled to the moldings each time with portraits and landscape of her.” has permanently been in my head since I read it in this story. Him resetting after he finally met her killed me 😭

The Twelve Huntsmen: Soffia is a boss ass bitch I love her so much and this story really showed girl power. I am so incredibly happy she realized she deserved better than Steffan and got to be with Arnor in the end. Also Fridrick and Ragna together felt like a win for me I was hardcore shipping them throghout the story.

How to Dispel Friends and Curse People (Letters From An Aspiring Poet to the Village Witch): This one was my favorite of the collection! I swear every single page of this story is tabbed the quotes were everything. Can you plese write more poetry it was so good. Sucker For Pain: I think this is one of the few love triangles in existence that I don’t have a preferred ship haha I loved Nora and Edmund in one way then loved Nora and Ives in another (plus Ives is a vampire so like he really did not have to try hard). I was very shocked she turned Edmund into a vampire. I was not expecting that but I’m very thankful because now she gets to keep both! P.S thanks for all the vampires in some of your books from a girl who will never be out of her vampire era.

My Mechanical Romance:

I really want to say thank you for this book, as a woman in STEM (although more the bio/chem side of STEM) this book would have beens so important for little Amanda to read before starting college (I mean it still meant a lot now but I think the impact would have hit even harder then) but I’m very happy it exists for young women today. I definitely have dealt with the same interactions and thoughts as Bel and Neelam and the little girl moments when she comes up at the end to them was very emotional for me (so did the acknowledgements 😭😭😭

However, I also really related to Teo a lot and reading his POV really felt like I was looking through a mirror to when I was younger and in ways my present day self. We both have fears of failure, fears of disappointing others, feel the need to be the responsible role, and fix everyone else’s problems before our own. I like how you said in an interview that he has to redefine his version of failure in this because it’s so true for both him and me. I really learned how to do that and how to focus on myself more in college, although it's always a work in progress. There’s very few characters I relate to in the same ways as Teo, because we share so many insecurities, but it was really interesting and introspective to get to read his POV for that purpose.

Love my teammates with tension TeoBel forever. Love how supportive they were of one another always. I seem to remember an interview I watched where you said Neelam would be good with a fake dating trope sooooo when is that 👀 (I’m kidding kind of).

here is what you asked for!

tbh this request was one of my absolute favorite ones out of all the amazing ones i got. this instantly spoke to me, and i was soooo excited to get to this. so thank you very much. i am in love with this ♥

some more about the process of making this edit plus my own thoughts on it under the cut!

first of all, i am not quite familiar with the whole soldier, poet, king -concept. i have seen it around and know it's somehow related to a quiz but i have never seen anything more about it. so, when i first started thinking about this edit, i only thought of soldier, poet, and king as simply those and nothing else.

like that, my first instinct was to assign poet to shin. that was the easiest choice out of the three. he's the calmest one, a quiet and shy guy who likes arts and soft things. i felt like it was obvious and even once i learned what being a poet was really about, i thought this one was perfect.

bc shin IS the poet of the trio. he is the heart of them, the warmth of them (i included so many hugs bc of this). he is the one who fights with words and his mind rather than with his fists. it's a continuous theme in the series; why shin clashes with his father, why he connects with pp (and saves him), why he works so well with neo and miw. he was easy to place bc he was so loud about where he wanted to be placed.

and then came the problem of the other two. my initial plan was to make miw the king and neo the soldier, probably bc i liked the thought of miw being their leader while neo was the protector. miw is so strong it felt the king's title was something she deserved while i could clearly remember neo putting himself always between the others and any danger. but then i read a bit more about this whole thing and well, here we are.

miw is the soldier of this trio bc she's the one who always wants to fight. she has been hurt enough in her life to regard everything and everyone with suspicion. she doesn't trust ppl, doesn't let them close to her, and always tries to survive on her own first. she's prideful and hates to get emotional about things.

she's not afraid to confront others about the things they're doing wrong either. we see her fighting for others as well as for herself so many times in the series. especially fond she is of fighting for other oppressed women; a quality i thought fit the soldier personality very well as that shows how easily she sees everything as a battle. there is always a new fight to get into. there will never be peace.

with these thoughts, i was not sad to eventually give the king position to neo. it is... kind of obvious, now that i think about it. he's the glue that brings the trio together. he's the one who pushes into motion this whole chain of events and he's the one who leads the others through it. this is his crusade - and so he's willing to be the one who gets hurt or even killed during it. as i read from somewhere, the kings are there when no one else wants to be. they ask themselves, "if not me, then who else?" it seemed to be neo's continuous theme too. he was willing to put himself in harm's way just bc he thought it was something he needed to do.

so these are my thoughts! this is how this edit came alive. i tried to show all these sides of them, tried to show them happy and sad and struggling. tried to show miw being the fighter she is, shin the rational one he needs to be, and neo the heroic one he always jokes about being. i hope it shines through as well as the bond between them i adore.

Anyway, Catullus was less the stereotypical "upper class guy with a lot of education who loves nature and being depressed" sort of poet and is more to the "battle rapper" end of poetry.

He's got multiple poems that are basically diss tracks. This is exactly why Poem 16 (this one) comes straight out the gate with "I AM GOING TO BUTTFUCK AND FACEFUCK YOU" (lowercase letters wouldn't be developed for a few hundred more years, by definition everything Catullus wrote was in ALL UPPERCASE): Catullus is directing this poem at Marcus Furius Bibaculus (Bibaculus to his friends), who had an affair with Juventius: a woman Catullus had a (possibly unrequited) love for. In fact, this sort of reputation is part of what Catullus is saying. He's like "oh, you think I'm some weak pansy faggot because I'm a poet? Let's see how you feel after I shove my huge* manly dick up all your holes, bitch."

Anyway the whole reason I was supposed to be replying is to talk about how Latin is an amazing language to swear in. They've got some very fun words like irrumo, ittumare which means basically "to fuck someone's mouth", but in a single word. Face-fuck is really the best translation English has, and that's two words.

Plus Latin is an infected language! He didn't just say "face fuck", he said the first person singular future active indicative of "face fuck".

Irrumabo is a single word that packs all this info into its infected form. It's not just "what" (face fucking), it's who and when and how.

Who: me, singular. "We" are not going to face fuck you, I, personally, and going to face fuck you.

When: in the future. This is a thing that's going to happen. Latin has multiple moods for this, the indicative, imperative, and subjunctive.

He doesn't use the subjunctive, which'd mean "I hope I facefuck you: it'd be great if someday I get to face fuck you".

He doesn't use the imperative, which is for stating commands. He's not saying "get facefucked, idiot".

He uses the indicative. This is for stating facts. He's saying this as just a thing that will happen. As surely as the sun will rise tomorrow... I will facefuck you.

It's also active not passive, which means it's not "you will be facefucked by me". It's active, meaning it's "I am going to facefuck you".

The word is also derived from the word for teats? As in, it meant something like suckling?

(there's also a lot of fascinating stuff about the second line of the poem: he calls Aurelius as pathicus, and Furius a cinaedus. These mean slightly different things! Translating them as "cocksucker" and "butt boy" is definitely one way to do it, but there's more to say about this, but this post is already way too long)

Anyway, while "first poet to ever get his bone on" is highly inaccurate (Sappho was centuries earlier! You think a woman who was so gay she gave us two of our words for WLW didn't BONE?), he definitely was one of the poets who most noticeably Absolutely Fucked and he made sure you knew it.

"Tortured Writers". That was apparently the name of the group chat Taylor Swift's ex-boyfriend, actor Joe Alwyn was in that inspired the name of her latest hit album 'The Tortured Poets Department', that like her 'Eras Tour' has taken the Summer by storm. The group chat, rumoured to also have the company of leading actors Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal. Make of it what you will, but the 'Fleabag' "Sexy Priest" and 'Sherlock' Moriarty star is together with the Laurence Olivier Award-winning Stanley Kowalski in a revival of Tennessee Williams' 'A Streetcar Named Desire' play, not to mention, the man set to play Paul McCartney in a movie about The Beatles, for 'All Of Us Strangers'. Strange days indeed, as Macca's mate John would say.

No one told you there'd be dreams like this. And the less said about the fantasy fever dream of Andrew Haigh's Fox Searchlight picture 'All Of Us Strangers' now streaming on Hulu, and therefore Disney Plus too, the better. And that's not because it's bad. Quite the opposite, in fact, as it deserves its flowers in a time when 'Saltburn' seems to have taken its bathwater. What? Just because people are crying, "woke" at movies and property that are evidently box-ticking for likes, hits and profit, you can't have two real stories that celebrate love in all its forms at the same time? Please! This is like when Netflix all but shelved 'Shirley' and the civil rights movement of that icon after the popularity of their Oscar worthy 'Rustin'. Sometimes a story needs to be told, no matter if people think they've seen it all before. And the key idea here? They haven't. And not just because this six time BAFTA nominee and top ten indie films of last year's National Board of Review is still an unsung hero.

It's just because if we say too much, like in all good relationships, we'll simply spoil it. And we don't want to do that in a film that is close to burning you like Mescal's mesmerizing 'Aftersun', and that's in beautiful black and white for you like Scott's new nuance Netflix take on Patricia Highsmith's 'Ripley'. Andrew's amazing acting floors you, just like Paul's powerful moments that knock you off your feet. All in evoking emotions that pound your heart until no dry eyes remain. These two talents are the past, present and future of great British films and acting acclaim. Much like supporting stars Jamie Bell ('Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool') and Claire Foy ('The Crown'), who are so heartbreakingly beautiful, we can't reveal anything more about their characters. Not just because we'll give the game away, but because we'll give way to tears.

Searchlight streaming at Mickey's house like 'Rye Lane' or an 'Empire Of Light' for your United Kingdom of film, Haigh's most revelatory work since '45 Years' is based on 'Strangers', the Japanese novel from Taichi Yamada. The 'In Search Of A Distant Voice' novelist and screenwriter (whose 'Strangers' was adapted for a second time (the first being the Japanese movie 'The Discarnates' of 1988) here by Andrew) sadly passed away last November. We hope we got to see this blossoming and beautiful tribute to his story before he passed. Because we're sure he would have been moved. We're also sure he got an early look at a film that only came out in Japan to begin this year after its August UK release ahead of the awards season it was crowned in.

Scott's London lonely screenwriter finds love with his muse in Mescal. All in the solitude of a cold concrete block of flats that seems to be inhabited by only this pair and their reflections in the mirror of the lifts that take them there. And you thought 'High-Rise was strange. But as you iron The Kinks out, "strangers on this road we are on, we are not two, we are one." And the power of love between these two characters could send Frankie back to Hollywood. Let alone keep the vampires from your door in a devoted dedication. This truly is a force from above and one you should make your goal in this life that is all about love. Man to woman. Woman to man. Woman to woman. Man to man. It's all as familiar as family.
