knowing your girlfriend, elysia, ideas like this were so common! so you took no surprise to her skipping into the living room and flopping down on the couch, kicking her shoes off and cuddling into your warm body.

“hiii~” she mused, smiling up at you. “i have a fun idea, hear me out.”

you listened as she spoke about how aponia and griseo baked cookies together that morning, on the behalf of griseos request. she saw and she thought it was cute, and now she wants to do the same thing with you, too. 

you nodded, before lightly pushing her off of you and getting up to check and make sure you have the right ingredients. 

you didn’t.

so, that made for an eventful late night shopping trip with elysia! you came in needing flower and chocolate chips. you both knew that. you both repeated it to yourselves with each other over 40 times, at least.

you spent over 100 dollars and have a cartful of grocery bags. whoopsies! 

but it’s okay, you got to go out with your girlfriend. she made it fun anyways. but back onto the point!

you two immediately went to work in the kitchen, with elysia telling you the ingredients and you mixing them together. your ipad was filled with flour, due to elysia wanting to make the dry mixture but accidentally spilling a whole thing of flour everywhere. you laughed at the sight, making her laugh too.

there was also another accident in the kitchen, where you both “accidentally” put a whole entire bag of chocolate chips into the mixture (where you later on regret it), leading to even more laughter.

she tried to initiate a flour fight a couple times, but you didn’t necessarily feel like cleaning even more of a mess up tonight. she understood, so she just bounced around the kitchen, bringing you all the ingredients you needed. 

thats when she brought out heart and flower shaped cookie cutters! when she laid them down on the counter, you swore you could see her eyes glimmer with happiness. you smiled, feeling incredible that you could bring such a heartwarming experience to your gorgeous girlfriend. 

“alrighty, into the oven they go!” she laughed a little, before putting pink oven mitts on her hands and sliding the cookie pan onto the top rack. “these look sooooo yum. i hope they turn out alright…” 

you pat her back, and she grins. “they’ll be fine, i just hope all that chocolate poured into them wont do too much harm. these are gonna be really sweet, but if they don’t turn out right, we can always make another batch.”

she nodded. “and we could relive this night all over again. this was a lot of fun, y’know.”

“you’re right, it was,” you chuckled, before turning around and looking at the mess awaiting. “but if we don’t clean this mess up soon, we’re gonna get a bug problem. i don’t think either of us could even fathom finding bugs all the time.”

“ew, i don’t even want to think about that,” elysia makes a disgusted face before turning around and wetting a washcloth. “bugs are so nasty, you’re gonna be the one squashing them if they find their way in here!”

you laughed, cleaning up your mess before taking a seat on the couch with a glass of cool red wine in your hand, elysia following you. 

“how many more minutes until the cookies are done, did you check?” you look over at her, watching her pacewalk over to the oven. 

“we can take them out now!” she calls, putting back on the oven mitts and sliding the cookie pan out of the oven.

when they cool off, you two turn on your show of choice, eating your heart shaped cookies. the chocolate was too much, but its the experience that counts, right?

and agh, i loved your thoughts on the demon bros sibling dynamics. plus yeahhh, its kinda hard to take anything seriously since it is an otome game, BUT who says u cant come up with your interpretations and thoughts? whos gonna stop you? anyway, each brother has a level of depth that is screaming to be fleshed out, but its all very surface level on game. belphegors burdening shame and regret from watching lilith die in front of him, and by extension beelzebub having the same feelings and/or his own guilt. (i remember belph talking about his trauma and the immersion immediately breaks off when an option pops up on the scream, "ask him to kiss you." LIKE. place and time!) asmodeus and lucifer, their entire relationship T_T speaking of which, satan and lucifer?! they're brothers, or say they are and the rest just kinda go with it. but does no one else wanna bring up how satan was even brought to existence? he was literally birthed from luci's wrath during the celestial war. thats like, a gateway for someone to write a long philosophical analysis about him and what it symbolizes. aghhudhwdhwhd i wish i could say more, but i'm literally out of words rn. if i was mc, i'd have to fight everyday to keep it together without breaking down and crying about this. espeically having to live under the same roof as them...ooofff

speaking of complex siblings dynamics, have you see succession? its a show on hbo. its about an ultra rich and powerful family that is ultimately, dysfunctional. theres four siblings and their relationship mean sooo much to me. i wont drop any spoilers just in case you dont know anything, but when i say dysfunctional i meant it!! one of the things i like about this show is that it doesnt have any flashbacks or show the backstories for most of the characters, rather they kinda drop pieces of information randomly and you just go ??? that happened ??? youd think it wouldnt be a good storytelling strategy bc how are you going to emotionally connect the story to your audience? but somehow, the show does it really well. for example, one of the brothers, roman, was heavily abused. and sometimes one of his siblings would go, "yeah i remember when dad used to heavily beat the fuck out of you" offhandedly, like its a cute little fun fact. and youre sitting there like....when did THAT happen??? ofc they wouldnt show it, but if you watch how roman and his father interact on show (roman is so submissive and scared next to his father) it starts to make sense. its like the "show dont tell" but they switch around to "tell and show." subtle interactions like that fully exposes a characters psychology. subtle body language goes a long way. theres also the eldest brother connor, whos seen as the father figure bc their real dad is so neglectful. but tbh connot gets shit on a lot and uuyfuefehfe theres more. i would talk about this all day. sibling angst got me on a chokehold.

Oh man, so I did a search for sibling webweaving and I was like woah what is all this lol. I had no idea there was a term for stuff like this, but I'm fascinated! I must not be getting the TikTok videos... admittedly my use of that platform is limited lol.

The thing about the otome game not delving into things means that we all get to speculate and come up with whatever we want. It's a blessing and a curse lol. On the one hand, I like being able to come up with my own interpretations. But on the other hand, it'd be nice to have just a little more depth that what we have.

I have thoughts about Belphie and specifically what happened in the OG with him. That was definitely a situation of, there is so much more going on here than they're bothering to get into. I also get that they can't really do a ton of that, partly due to the medium and partly due to the amount of characters they have to deal with. Like I think they can only choose to flesh out certain characters and the rest kind of end up on the back burner. Which is annoying because there's so much potential for so many amazing stories!

I also have a lot of thoughts about Satan and his relationship to Lucifer and everybody. It's like they give us just enough to make the story dramatic, but in the end everybody loves each other and so on and so forth. I'm not saying both Satan and Belphie shouldn't be able to reconcile what happened to them and move on, but it just happens so fast. It seems too easy. So I kind of headcanon it as, they hide everything. Not just those two, but all the brothers have a certain level of trauma that they just bury deep or at the very least don't display in front of MC. I know they make MC out to be the demon therapist, but nobody resolves their issues in one session and that's all they're normally limited to. But of course they don't have time to get into things that deeply in a mobile otome game lol.

I have not seen Succession! It sounds pretty intense. I think it's always interesting when media use different techniques to tell their story. Of course I have very little knowledge of how TV scripts are written, but for story writing, the way a character reacts can imply all kinds of past history, even if you don't know exactly what happened. Flashbacks are helpful, but I think it's interesting to have a bit of a mix. A character is always going to tell the story of their past a little differently than how it actually happened. And I find that it can reveal a lot about character just to see what they change or leave out when telling it. Of course, who they're speaking to can affect that as well. But it's definitely an interesting concept!

okay just wanna talk about rise for a bit

i just finished season 1 and i’m upset. but the good kind you know?? like i originally started watching it to make fun of it (i’m petty) bc i thought it would be like a carbon copy of glee, but it wasn’t!?? i loooove the diversity and depth of the characters and how they grow. the audience can really relate to each of them in so many different ways. sure, there are some parts that were inaccurate and just wouldn’t happen in real life. no high school would ever do spring awakening, and other things like that. and mr mazzou had like zero facial expression at all, but that was just only mildly irritating to me. but i can’t belieeeeve how incredible this show is. i cried a whole lot. and that’s not just because i love spring awakening and theatre in general. it’s just so immersive and well written and emotional and relatable and freaking wonderful. so yeah. AAAH. SO GOOOD. SO AMAZING. 12/10 TV EXPERIENCE WOULD WATCH AGAIN. NBC YA DID GOOD

"I'm sorry" Kiyoomi says, and you smile because you knew. You always knew. He looks at you weirdly before keep going "But I don't feel the same way"

"It's fine" you sigh, feeling the prickling of tears behind your eyes. You bite your lip and clear your throat— praying that it'll help you keep a stable ground. Kiyoomi blinks, pushing his hands on his pockets "I understand. I just wanted you to know"

"Okay" he says, and you already know you can't expect a meaningless 'Thank you, I appreciate that' from him, because that's not how he is.

If he was, maybe you wouldn't like him that much.

"We can still be friends tho" you say, and it's not just empty words. You need to at least have a decent relationship with him. You're Itachiyama's volleyball club manager, after all.

Kiyoomi nods, unsure, and you say your goodbyes and exit the classroom, feeling the weight of the world on your heart.

Well, at least you gave it all.

"Don't worry too much about my cousin" Komori tells you a couple of days later, coming to sit beside you on the bench.

You're writing down important stuff you've noticed from watching the team perform, and stop all together when you realize that he's refering to your failed confession.

Embarrassing much.

"Oh"

"He doesn't have that much experience with dating" Komori shrugs, wiping the sweat from his forehead. You lean down to get him a water bottle from the bag at your feet, and he smiles and takes a big gulp before talking again "Or none at all. That's why he can be a bit rude"

"I'm not rude" Kiyoomi argues, stopping in front of the two of you. You blush, and lean down again to rummage through the supplies bag until you find the special bottle you packed out for him.

"Here's a bottle for you too, Sakusa" you tell him, passing him one perfectly kept inside a plastic bag "I made sure it didn't touched the other bottles"

Kiyoomi blinks a few times before accepting it, glancing down at it for a few seconds and then back at you, curiously "I appreciate it"

"And he wasn't rude to me" you say to Komori, smiling "You can't force someone to want to be with you"

And then you stand up to go show the coach your notes, leaving both of them staring at your retreating back— Komori with a small teasing smile, Kiyoomi with a frown.

"Well, seems like you lost a big chance of being with someone that can keep up with your issues there, Sakusa" Komori says.

Kiyoomi only scoffs, but his eyes stay on you until it's time to go.

"Here" you say, and hand him what appears to be a sealed facemasks pack. Kiyoomi looks at it from his spot on the bench, and then at you. You're not staring at him tho, busy rummaging through your bag. "I know you'll probably need some extra ones for after the game, so I brought this ones for you, in case you didn't bring enough of your own"

"I always bring just one" he answers sheepishly, and you look at him in shock, opening your mouth and then closing it again.

"Really?" you finally ask, and he doesn't know why he feels so flustered about it— but he does. And so he nods, and looks down at his shoes. "Well... I just thought that you would be worried. About germs. You should probably have a clean one for after the game, and not reuse the one you had before"

"Yes, you're probably correct" he says, frowning slightly. He seems mortified, but a bit grateful as well, as he accepts the pack and looks at the facemasks inside. You're almost out of the door on your way to the bus that will bring them all over to the school where you'll have a practice match, before he stands up to shoot for you "Wait!"

"Yeah?"

"How do you knew this?" he asks, and shakes the pack on his hand "You never wear a facemask"

Kiyoomi realizes for the first time that day, that the blush on your cheeks might be one of the cutest things he's seen.

"I...— made some research"

"Right" he says "Because you're our manager"

It makes sense, that you make sure to know every member likes and dislikes. It shows how professional you are, how committed to the team.

But then you blush even harder, and look down at your hands "Oh... no" you whisper, and Kiyoomi arches an eyebrow at your stuttering "I did the research before asking you out"

Oh.

He gulps, stares accusingly at the pack of facemasks still on his hands, and then back at you, eyes softer. He feels his face heat up when you look up at him with an apologetic expression.

"I see"

"Right" you laugh, and then sprint out of the gym.

He makes sure to buy a couple of packs like the one you gave to him from the drugstore, because for some strange reason, he doesn't wants to use those ones.

He ends up keeping them on his bedside table instead.

It's on the ride back to Itachiyama when you sit beside him, and gently tap on his shoulder to get his attention. He's been listening music the whole time, and he turns to you and takes off his earplugs to find you smiling sweetly.

"Good job" you say. He nods, and looks down at the earplug between his fingers. If this is just a regular pleasantries exchange, then maybe it's okay if he goes backs to his music after acknowledging he heard you. However, you talk again "I know you weren't really feeling it today, so I'm especially proud of you"

He doesn't knows what to address first, and so he clears his throat and takes his second earplug off, no longer caring enough for the song.

"Not feeling it?"

"Well, yeah. I know you've been a bit on the down since our last practice"

He knows you're Itachiyama's volleyball team manager. He knows it's your job to watch everything that happens with the team. And yet, he still chockes out at a "How?"

You smile, and then shrug "I don't know. I just knew"

He can't stop thinking about it for the next couple of days. How do you just know, when a person is not feeling alright? He decides to watch Komori closely, taking on everything he does and everything he says, to see if he can tell when his cousin mood wavers. If there's a sign, anything for him to realize when someone is just not having the best time, even while acting and behaving as usual. Komori ends up calling him a weirdo, and Kiyoomi still doesn't manages to figure out how could you read him like that—until one of the subjects you share together rolls around, and he chances at look at you out of the corner of his eye.

You're sitting straight, pen dangling between your fingers and a small frown on your face while you look over the materials in front of you. After a couple of seconds, you shake out of your stupor and start writing as if nothing happened— but somehow, Kiyoomi knows.

"Help?" you repeat, eyes wide.

He nods "Yes. I have some time now, if you want"

"But... how did you knew I had trouble with this?" you ask, and then gasp and partially cover your mouth, groaning slightly "Was I being too obvious? Do you think our teacher noticed?"

"I'm sure he didn't " he rushes to add, and then out of nowhere, recalls the feeling of your hand on his shoulder "I... just knew"

He pays more attention to you, after that study session. You laugh when you're nervous, and fluster easily. He can now feel your eyes follow him around the gym— and where it could have been some discomfort, now there's nothing but warm, at the feeling of being watched by you. Kiyoomi reasons that it's only fitting, that he takes the time to make his own research about you, since you took the time to learn more about him.

"You don't have to" Komori says, munching down some crackers, when Kiyoomi tells him about his intentions over lunch "I mean... she did it because she wanted to, not out of obligation"

"But I want to" he argues, eyes glued to his bento.

Komori looks intently at him for the rest of their free period.

"Why did you used to like me?" Kiyoomi asks you one day, on your way home.

It's late, after practice, and he now knows the road you take home everyday. He needs to go the same way too, so there isn't any inconvenience in walking together. Komori is strangely absent, having sprinted out of practice sooner that anyone, but Kiyoomi is too focused on the question he's been dying to ask you for some time now, to pay attention to that.

You look up at him, cheeks bright red, and bite your lower lip in thought "You want a list of reasons or something?" you joke.

Kiyoomi hums, but doesn't laughs "I realized I never asked"

You shrug, eyes on the road "You didn't have to"

"Is there really that many reasons?"

Your blush only depends at that, and you fix the collar of your uniform before griping your bag tightly "Yeah... well. It is what it is"

You don't seem willing to elaborate further, so Kiyoomi nods, and then decides to change his question instead.

"Then when?" he asks, and his heart does a somersault in his chest when you sigh, and look at him through your eyelashes.

"When I realized you were the one thing I thought about the most"

Kiyoomi gets home that night, takes a hot shower and shares dinner with his family, and the goes back to his room to sit on the edge of his bed. He opens the first drawer on his bedside table, and takes out the unopened pack of facemasks you gave him a couple of months ago.

He goes to sleep that night with the painful realization that he might have rejected the girl he ended up falling for.

Kiyoomi has never been someone to dwell on past mistakes. What's done is done. After, there's only room for practice. And improvement. That philosophy has worked well for him on the court, so he sees no reason why it wouldn't work for his romantic life as well.

Komori seems extra curious when he stops by his house in the morning, and sees Kiyoomi holding a whole unused pack of facemasks in one hand. He doesn't understands, of course, and Kiyoomi doesn't takes the time to explain to him that he's going to show them to you. He needs to tell you that he kept them on his bedside table, because he wasn't able to use them and in doing that getting rid of something you got just for him. He also wants to add, if everything goes well, that he might have gotten attached to more than that, and that now thanks to you he finally knows why with just one look, you can know what's wrong with him.

It's because you can't stop looking at him.

Just as he can't keep his eyes off of you either.

And practice makes perfection.

Or at least that's what he would say, if he hadn't arrived to school to find Bokuto Koutaro kissing you by the entrance doors.

Kiyoomi steps falter then, and for the first time he wishes he wasn't wearing a facemask.
