Business as Usual - LS18

You walked through the woods, heading towards the isolated little river that you sat by whenever you felt overwhelmed. As you approached the opening in the trees, you saw a figure, someone sat down on the rock next to the one that you normally say at. You shrugged to yourself, not really caring if someone else was there, he seemed quiet and you could still unwind. As if he could sense a presence, he turned, looking at you. You sent him a gentle smile, walking over and sitting on the rock that sat beside the one he was on.

“Do you mind? This is my spot,” he said, sounding rather frustrated at the new presence.

“Well it's my spot too, so I'm going to quietly enjoy it,” you responded, not really in the mood for another argument that day. He seemed to accept that, groaning rather dramatically before accepting it and going quiet.

You watched as the river flowed gently, the crystal-clear water meandering gracefully between rocks. You could see the pebbles below the water, laying contently on the river bed, some adorned with moss which had slowly covered more and more pebbles over time. The sound of running water and gentle rustling of leaves in the breeze subdued the loud sounds in your brain, allowing you to shut everything that you were feeling out. The fragrant scent of wildflowers and mud filled your senses as you breathed in, causing a sigh of content to leave your mouth. The natural canopy provided by the trees above allowed you to sit there calmly, shading the sun from your face and body as you watched the ripples of the water. 

You heard a gasp and sudden movement from the man sat beside you. You looked in his direction, looking into his eyes and following his eyesight to the creature that had landed by him and startled him so much. You started laughing softly. “It's not funny, don't laugh.”

“You're scared of a tiny little frog?” You asked, leaning over to pick it up. “Hi little buddy.” You spoke gently to the frog as it sat contently in your hand, bringing it up to eye level with you and looking at it. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw the man sit back down. “Do you want to hold him?”

He was silent, so you looked up at him, seeing the anxious look in his eyes. “What if I hurt it? I don't want to do that.”

You smiled softly. “You trust me?”

He thought for a moment before gently nodding. “I guess, why?”

You signalled for him to hold out his hand, which he did, before gently moving your hand over so the frog could move onto him. You watched as his brown eyes softened, his mouth turning into a grin as he held the tiny creature in his hand. “It’s kind of cute…”

“I hope this doesn't sound weird but may I take a photo of it in your hand? Your face won't be in the picture, of course, but I like infodumping about animals, plants, buildings and history on my Instagram pages that I'm an admin on.”

“Pages, plural?”

“Yes, I have 2. One for nature and history and I have one where I post personal stuff.” He nodded, before allowing you to take some photos. You did, answering his questions about the type of frog as you took photos, him offering to take one of you holding it afterwards, which you gladly accepted. Placing your camera back in your bag after turning it off, you looked back at him as he spoke again. You placed the frog on your knee, luckily having chosen to wear shorts so your clothes weren't getting dirty from the little creature that rested contently on you. 

“Why do you come here?”

“It's… an escape.” He looked at you, his expression unreadable so you continued talking. “When everything gets too loud, when family gets overwhelming, when work is stressful, it's nice to be able to escape here and just listen to the breeze and the water, the trees. It's all just so calming. What about you?”

He nodded, understanding exactly where you came from. “Same.”

“You wanna talk about it?”

He pondered your question for a moment before he decided to explain. “Where I work… people can be quite harsh sometimes. It's like I can never do anything without people hating me. They call me a nepo baby.” He paused, chuckling bitterly. “I know that it sounds stupid, getting frustrated over it, but people always say I don't deserve my job, that the only reason I'm here is because of nepotism. It's mental.” He sighed, looking in your direction, eyes scanning you. “What about you? What's going on with you?”

“My dad, well, step dad's trying to convince me to give him my business now that it's successful. Just like handing it over to him willingly. He invited me over to ask me to willingly give up the thing I built from the ground up.”

“Really? Why would he do that?”

You lifted your hands up, making quotation marks with your hands. “Women shouldn't run businesses, they should marry, have kids and stay at home doing housework.” He snorted, thinking you were joking. “I'm serious.”

“People still think like that?” He looked confused, watching as you nodded, sighing in response to that. Unfortunately, some people were still like that. And it pissed you off a lot.

“Unfortunately, I always wondered why mama willingly gave up working despite absolutely loving her job after they got married.” You shrugged. “He won’t be getting my company though. No way in hell. He only wants it for the money.” You paused, checking your phone. “Speaking of my business. I’ve got a business meeting party thing tonight so I will have to go.”

“It was lovely meeting you.” He smiled at you as you placed the frog on the rock, picking up your tote bag and heading out. 

You went straight home, thinking that he looked familiar but you couldn’t quite put your finger on it. Sat in your hotel room, you decided to paint a bit before you headed for the business event. You wore quite a basic smart casual outfit - some white pants with a green shirt and matching blazer. Your hair was left down and you wore some basic makeup, not feeling like going over the top. 

Stepping into the venue, you sighed. This was something you didn’t love about running a business. Sure, you enjoyed the small delicacies and the free wine you got all evening, but you couldn’t stand the large handful of males who decided that you, a woman, couldn’t understand basic terminology so would spend the entire time mansplaining to you. Usually, you’d bring a friend, but being in Canada, away from your main place of residence, you didn’t really have anyone to bring. So you wandered around the venue quietly, other than stopping to say hi to people as you passed them, champagne in hand. That was until you saw a white-haired man approach you. 

He smiled, seeming rather friendly. He held out his hand. “Hi. Miss Martins, yes?” You nodded. “It's lovely to meet you, I'm Lawrence Stroll.” You shook his hand, smiling back. “Your step-father said that you're here on behalf of his business?”

You shook your head. “Martins Associates?”

“That's my business, not Anthony's,” you said, leading to a look of confusion on his face. “He's been trying to convince me to hand over my business to him willingly now it's doing well.”

“Oh, well I am very sorry if I insulted you there, dear. I genuinely had no idea.”

“No, it's perfectly fine. Has he been telling everyone this?”

Lawrence nodded. “Want me to go have words with the owner of this?”

“I’m meant to be talking later, so I’ll just bring it up then.”

You and Lawrence continued to talk, making friendly conversation. He talked a lot about his son, you realised. You didn’t mind, though. You didn’t usually know what to talk about. He explained about how his son is a Formula One driver and how he was super proud of him and how far he’s come over the years. He then looked around before waving somebody over. Your eyes turned from Lawrence to the person who was being waved over. When you glanced at the familiar man who you had spent time with earlier that day, you smiled. His face twisted from a look of boredom to one of relief, likely at someone he had noticed, someone who wasn’t an old man. “Y/N, this is my son, Lance Stroll. Lance, this is Miss Martins, she runs Martins Associates.”

“Miss Martins. It is very lovely to see you again.” Lance lifted your hand gently, placing a kiss to your knuckles.

“Please, call me Y/N, Mr Stroll.”

“Alright, and you can call me Lance, of course.” His dad excused himself so he turned back to you, a gentle smile on his face. “May I get you a drink?”

The rest of the night went by pretty quickly. You had done your little talk, making it very clear at the start that you owned your business, not your step-father. You then spent the rest of your evening with your new Canadian friend, who you found out also lived in Switzerland, relatively close to you as well. However, eventually, your conversation wrapped up and you had to head home to catch your plane back.

habitatsandhistory: Today, we stumbled across a pseudacris crucifer, known more commonly as a Spring Peeper! These small tree frogs from the Hylidae family are found in woodland areas of the Eastern states of the USA and Canada. They are usually grey, tan or olive brown with an x-shaped, often irregular, brown mark on it's back. They grow to a length of between 2.5 and 3 cm in size!

This little guy was found by the river on slide 5, when it jumped up onto a nearby rock and I couldn't resist getting a photo of it! Feel free to follow for more history and nature facts!

holding hands (does she like to hold hands)- omg yes 🤭🤭 and she likes walking around and swinging your hands too!!! dani likes if you go on short walks with her in her free moments and you just talk and hold hands :((

injuries (what would she do if you got hurt)- she would cry 💔 my girl would freeze for a second before having a breakdown, what she’d supposed to do? it fortunately would only take her like two minutes before she’d actually help you

jokes (does she like to joke around)- a little humour is healthy for the both of you 😚 but danielle would never pull any of those ‘break-up’ pranks on you >:(( she wouldn’t want to hurt her bby </3 so the members are legally allowed to kick ur butt if you do a prank like that on her 👹

kisses (how does she like to kiss you)- very gentle 🤭🤭 she deffo wants to hold hands when you kiss :(( omg kissing in the rain with dani 🥹🥹

“Daddy-“ Natalie whispered, a sniffle in her voice as she tugged Kendall’s sleeve.

Kendall blinked awake, rubbing the sleep from his eyes as Natalie came into view, her big brown eyes wet with tears while she clutched onto her stuffed frog, Synthia’s latest crochet project.

“Nat? What’s the matter?”

She rubbed at her eyes, pulling herself up on her tip toes, attempting to peer over the edge of the bed. “Wanna see dada.”

“Dada’s asleep, honey, can you tell daddy what’s the matter?”

Lip wobbling, she shook her head. “Dada, please.”

Kendall sighed, sitting up and lifting her into their bed, her eyes landing on Synthia, fast asleep in between him and Gia. Instead of calming her, seeing him asleep made her cry harder, such big emotions in her little body coming out in wailing sobs, waking both Synthia and Gia.

“Nat, baby,” Synthia cooed when he came to his senses.

Natalie wiggled her way from Kendall’s lap into Synthia’s, letting him rock and shush her.

“What happened?” Gia mouthed to Kendall, out of Natalie’s eyesight.

He only shrugged, unsure of what brought their daughter to the verge of a meltdown in the middle of the night.

“Can you use your words and tell dada what’s wrong? Hmm?” Synthia soothingly said, rubbing her back.

“B-bad d-dream, you-you went away, dada. You went to the hospital and didn’t come back!”

Synthia’s heart ached for her, as did Gia and Kendall’s.

“Babygirl, I’m not going anywhere, I promise.”

“My mommy went away, I don’t want you to go away,” she cried, grasping onto his pajama shirt, “I don’t want daddy or noni to leave either. Please don’t leave me!”

“No, honey, none of us are gonna leave you,” Kendall whispered softly, tucking hair behind her ear.

Gia nodded. “You’ll always have all three of us.”

Synthia felt guilty nodding along, knowing his unstable his health could be, but he couldn’t bear the thought of Natalie worrying about that so much. She was only 4 and had already experienced more hardship than anyone should at that age.

“Promise?”

Kissing her curls, Synthia hummed. “We promise. Do you want to sleep the rest of the night in here?”

She nodded and sighed shakily. “Yes, please.”

“Come on, let’s get cozy then.”

After being maneuvered into a laying position, Natalie melted into Synthia’s side, exhaustion hitting her all at once.

“Goodnight dada, daddy, and noni,” she said sleepily.

“Goodnight Nat,” the all echoed in response, watching her as she fell asleep.

“Do you think I’m hurting her more than helping?” Synthia whispered, “she shouldn’t have to think about this stuff. She’s so young.”

Gia sighed and rubbed soothing circles into Synthia’s arm. “Of course you aren’t hurting her. She adores you.”

“She really does,” Kendall chimed in, “maybe we look into therapy for her. Maybe for all of us, it might be helpful.”

“Yeah,” Synthia sighed forlornly, “maybe.”

He needs a ride, and he overhears someone - lovely Frog Lady - telling her husband about this Mandalorian who gave her passage on his ship, and anyway.

Din takes one look at Luke who’s been bumbling about all incognito and such checking out rumors about Jedi ruins and other similar things and - naturally, because look at the way his life tends to go - stumbling headfirst into trouble wherever he goes - and is like:

“No.”

Because he is Very Tired and his kid is being particularly stubborn about something or other and he would like to have one (1) day where something Inconvenient doesn’t happen.

Also, this guy with the :D smile who looks like he’s had a rough time of it lately and is still going :DDDDD at him reeks of the kind of Inconvenient that gets Din into Trouble, so he chooses to nip that right in the bud and, again, no.

So when he gets Grogu back to his ship only to find the area crawling with Imperial remnants and assorted baddies is like *SIGH*, he’s not really surprised when the guy who asked to hire him for passage off planet sidles over and -

“Looks bad.”

Din does not look over at the guy, no he does not.

“I bet a distraction might help.”

Would it now.

And on and on it goes until Din is like fine, fine. Go cause a distraction and if you’re back before Din gets the ship in the air and away from here he’ll take Luke on as a passenger and get him off this damn planet already, just. Stop.

Luke is all :DDDDDDDDDDDDDD at him and tosses off this jaunty little two-finger salute as he scampers off and Din is >:((((((((((((((((((((((( because honestly.

Something goes kaboom, and then the yelling starts, and anyway. Din and Grogu get to their ship and Din is tempted to just take off and leave the guy there? But it’s more of a fleeting though than actual action, and anyway, Luke gets back to them before Din has to make the decision to get the hell out of there before it’s too late and waiting on Luke, so.

Yeah.

(Din’s a little worried about how amused he feels at the >:DDDDDDDDDDD look on Luke’s face as they watch the baddies and such run around in a bit of a panic below them as they take off, but yes.)

And then!

Din being stuck with this weirdo passenger in Luke who is oddly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ about things once they’re back in space and headed anywhere but where they just were?

Tells Din some vague story about losing his own ship a while back, one that’s just. Clunky and the more Din thinks about it is obviously a lie, but Luke doesn’t seem that bothered about picking it apart, so that’s a thing that happens.

The same way Din wakes up from a little nap to find Luke and Grogu taking part of the ship - the one they’re flying in and rely on to keep them alive as they fly through the cold vacuum of space that would kill them without a care - apart to tinker with.

(They fact that whatever they took apart works better afterward is the only reason Din doesn’t stop them from doing it again. Really.)

And anyway.

They stop off places for fuel and supplies - Din picks up a job or two to fund said things - and Luke goes off to do...whatever it is he does when they stop somewhere, usually coming back with money to help pay his way and something for Grogu and Din, and anyway.

(At some point Din’s going to have to admit the fact he hasn’t tried to get rid of Luke, dropped him off somewhere and gone on with Grogu to do whatever it is they do, but that’s a problem for future Din.)

Things are going...well, not great, but not terrible either, which is why Din is so *SIGH* when they get pulled over by space cops New Republic forces on a planet somewhere or by a cruiser in space or something and Luke goes:

“Oh, no.”

Because.

There’s a New Republic General (Antilles something or other) and a New Republic Senator (Organa or something or other) and -

“Look, I can explain,” Luke says, and Din is worried???

Because the general is all >:DDDDDDDDDDD and the senator is all >:((((((((((((((( and Din is feeling a bit worried about all this?

The senator’s face goes even more  >:(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( and then she goes “Oh, please do.”

At which point Din realizes that while they - well, Luke - is in trouble, it’s not Trouble.

(Well, not the kind they can shoot their way out of the way they’ve been doing the past little however long.)

Also, Din discovers he’s been ferrying the senator’s brother around the galaxy this whole time, who also happens to be a Jedi - “What.” - which, you know, Din’s been looking for one of those to teach his kid for a while, and anyway.

There’s some ceremony or something somewhere the New Republic needs Luke in attendance for - “Ugh, do I have to?” and “They want to give you a medal, you idiot,” and “That’s what you get for being the poster boy, Luke,” - and anyway.

I lost the thread somewhere in here but Luke getting in a teensy bit of trouble and basically bumming around the galaxy with Din and Grogu after running into them and Leia getting Wedge to help her drag her brother back for some stupid award thing.

Leia gets it, okay, but Wedge is right in that Luke’s stupid pretty face made for good PR for the Rebellion back in the day, and also he did kind of help save this planet that wants to honor him, and it’s good politics and he can go back to his roadtrip around the galaxy with his boyfriend and his boyfriend’s incredibly cute kid when it’s over, okay, stop giving her that look.

so i have never watched a single episode of amphibia but i hear a lot about it on tumblr bc the owl show and frog show fandoms overlap a ton

anyway i have decided to write out what i THINK the plot is from secondhand info. for my frog show mutuals’ entertainment and also to probably look back at and laugh if/when i end up succumbing to peer pressure and watching it

frog show fans pls tell me how far off my understanding is

-anne, marcy, and sasha are besties. it’s kinda codependent and unhealthy and sasha is kinda crappy to them sometimes.

-anne is the only one with anything resembling a healthy home life. honestly i don’t know much abt her personality except she’s like a general kindhearted and cheerful protagonist.

-marcy is clumsy and into fantasy nerd stuff. she is also perfect and wholesome and must be protected at all costs.

-sasha is like. a vriska, or a catra.

-they are definitely gay and polyamorous but michael mouse wont allow that to happen

-sasha peer pressures anne into stealing a box (i think it called the calamity box) from a thrift shop. they open it and get isekaied to frog world

-they all end up in different parts of frog world. i think the box explodes or something.

-anne is taken in by hoppop (old frog) and sprig (young frog) and polly (VERY young frog)

-idk if the frogs are blood relatives or not. i think hoppop is not their dad cuz i think sprig is an orphan. is he their grandpa? just some random old man? are sprig and polly sibllings or just two separate frog children? who knows.

-either way they’re just a wholesome little frog family living in a podunk town in frog world.

-anne wants to find her friends and go home but in the meantime she is just having happy wholesome frog adventures with her frog family

-gee, anne, how come the writers let you have TWO wholesome families?

-meanwhile, marcy gets taken in my a newt(?) called king andrias. he seems nice at first but is Not

-meanwhile meanwhile sasha gets taken in by a toad named grimes

-i think he heals marcy’s stab wound by putting her in a pickle jar. but oh no! he wasn’t just being nice to her, he just needed her alive so he could Use Her for Evil

-he made a pact with a axolotl demon for Power. he lets the demon possess marcy

-enter olivia and yunan. they’ve got an early-series marceline and princess bubblegum kinda vibe going on. like the censors wont let it be canon confirmed but they are DEF ex gfs who are still in love

-they worked with andrias. they thought he was a chill dude but then they saw him hurt marcy and were like aw heck no, not in MY rodeo.

-they decide to be marcy’s moms now. they wanna do some cool traitor moves and save marcy but they don’t really know how bc she is like possessed now and also the king is super powerful. they gotta be Sneaky

☕ Coffee or Tea: Describe your OC’s favorite place to relax.

Since we know you adore a few characters in particular, we will definitely focus on them, for you! So we will be doing Neal Anderson, The Rapunzel Witch, and the Beloved Bartlebee! :D

~ Neal's favorite place to relax would have to be on the balconies of his room! They hold a bunch of his plants, and lead the way to the Trees of Tempkinhand, and also hold the gentle whispers of his beautiful wind chimes. It is one of his favorite places to go when he can't sleep or think, and he adores just sitting out there with his Bond, away from the stress of running the country.

~ The Rapunzel Witch adores the stream that entangles itself around the Witch's Tower. It is clear and shimmering and filled with gentle fish, growing frogs, and brings forth all of the affinities of his Magicks. He loves just sitting on the edge of the stream on a perfectly sunny day, letting his feet dip into it an just immerse himself in the World around him. It is quiet and gentle and filled to the brim with the Life that he never takes for granted.

~ The Beloved Bartlebee enjoys the quiet peace of the Libraries. He holds a favorite spot in the Castle's, where he can sit under a window that holds a clear view into the Forests, and skies and it slanted so he can easily look up. He especially enjoys rainy days, bc the Worlds seem so much closer when the only thing holding Nature back is a pane of glass and a small and loose latch.

🧥 Warm Coat: Share a happy or fuzzy scene from your wip!

Okay okay, we do not have a lot of scenes that are happy and fuzzy without giving things away, so we present you with a soft, little scene from The Vagabond Child! c:

The child’s joy fills their home after that.

The dog, content enough to not eat anymore of the vegetables, follows her as she sets up a sleeping spot big enough for the both of them. He watches them go around and collect soft things and make a pile of it. It is slightly amusing, considering that she had never bothered with comfort while sleeping. He shakes his head softly, stands and walks to grab some more blankets for the duo. When their fort is done, the girl and the dog immediately settle in, bodies shifting until both of them are comfortable. The man turns off the candles, making the preparations for the night, and checking the moon before he goes to settle in his normal sleeping spot. A small noise makes him turn to the pile. The girl gives him a frown, her hand calling him over as she pats a spot next to her, the opposite side of the mutt. He lifts a brow, glances at the dog who shifts over and wags his tail in slight agreement. The girl pats the blankets harder, her face forming a frown that he knows all too well. He sighs, getting up from his spot and moving to the pile of soft items. The girl immediately settles again, body squishing into him. It is slightly surprising and he freezes for a minute as she buries herself into his chest. He waits for a beat, mind slowly processing the moment before he notes her settling, a sigh rolling against his shirt and warming it. He blinks, glances back at the mutt who huffs and turns away from him, maybe in slight jealousy. He settles stiffly, one hand going under his head as the other falls over her. He looks up at the moon, the waxing light giving enough glow to cast soft shadows all around them.

The night calls him more gently, the drag being barely noticeable as he settles more securely against her, bodies more warm and content with the bodies close, and the new addition.

🌙 Moon: Do any of your OCs have dark backstories or secrets they’re trying to keep?

Absolutely! We think it is three for three with the OCs that we are focusing on with this ask, though all three are more background secrets instead of things that are plot related.

~ Neal holds the secret of his first Bond, and his trauma. It is very briefly thought through in some old RPs with him and his new Bond, but nothing is truly delved into for it is a history that Mitch does not enjoy bringing back to the surface of the present.

~ The Rapunzel Witch's entire history is spotted with dark secrets and even darker backstories. He holds the reason for his title, and the new myths that entangle the Forests in fear and paranoia. And his backstory is a little somber and whispering in darker intentions; there is a reason he is known as the Rapunzel Witch.

~ The Beloved Bartlebee holds a dark backstory, though it does help with his purpose within the story. He knows the devastation that is the Monsters known as Witches. He is very aware of their despair, and has been a Witch killer before.

Calm and reserved, Keaton is the more relaxed and responsible of the Artemas Siblings and is a man of few words, usually replying with nods and shakes of his head unless the conversation requested otherwise. He comes off as stone-cold, and intimidating; as he's rumored to be the most brooding of the three, and with a seemingly unbreakable tough-guy exterior. It's quite difficult to get to know what he's really like by the first few impressions.

Once you become acquainted with him, or if you'd spend more time at the Sombraj dorm, Keaton appears to seem more lighthearted and aloof than before, and acts as some sort of impulse control for some of his dorm-mates, as he's one of the most level-headed. His curiosity for some things and his aloof nature being somewhat endearing. Most of the things he does for the dorm and others are often genuine, selfless and are in good faith. A very solid big brother figure :,)

Unique Magic: Anura-Armament

Only works with some sort of frog or slimy substance, Keaton is able to weaponize it into a throwing knife he can use. Hardening and transforming said slimy substance into a razor sharp blade, and the after effect said throwing knife has depends on the substance used to create it.

For example, he uses a poisonous frog's secretion to create the knife, thus it can have a variety of effects to the person he throws it at depending on what kind of frog it was, although never fatal, the worst effect it can have on you is to paralyze you temporarily.

Other uses for said UM is to make into a web-like trapping net, both for the frogs and his dormmates :))

Setbacks: it's kinda gross............also he has to manually get said frog secretions so that'd be awkward..he cant turn liquids into weapons either.

In contrast to her older brother, Brielle is a force to be reckoned with, a little gremlin. She is ruthless, commanding, and is easily irritable, which causes her to cause chaos on impulse and fight with anyone she sees. A permanent scowl on her face, she never fails to intimidate (or amuse) anyone she comes across outside the dorm. But despite her short and small stature, most of the people in her dorm never seem to take her seriously to ever see her as a proper threat. She wants to take charge, but nobody ever really lets her. Much to her anger and dismay..

They usually see her as this small angry little chihuahua that's all bark and no bite...some of the time at least.

Has this sort of tough love towards her brothers and to those she cares about, as she likes to refer to them sometimes as 'idiot brothers', but really, she does care about them, she's just too cautious of going soft and letting her guard down in case something happens. But when you're nothing but a stranger to her it will be difficult to get in friendly terms with her.

She hasn't developed her Unique Magic just yet, to her dismay. She hates that her two brothers have a UM and she doesn't, hell she envies them a lot.. but that only really makes her even more determined to figure out what it could be!!

The most soothing and welcoming of the sibling trio. Holton likes to solve things with peace and love, not violence! Unless you're a frog :)) Although because of his aloof nature and his seemingly never fully awake demeanor, he does cause chaos unintentionally and often gets the trio into crazy situations in or out of the dorm. And then he apologizes profusely after.....then accidentally does it again.

Constantly yawning, this boy is always sleepy and drowsy looking no matter what and because of that is often unfazed by the weird things that sometimes happen in the dorm. He can also be a little slow when it comes to processing things, but is actually kinda the most intelligent from the three. He's like a big, sleepy bear that gives free hugs and will bonk you gently in the head with his wooden club.

Unique Magic: Anura-Congeal

Can harden his skin and bones, making him indestructible and unfazed to blunt force attacks or fall damage, however not at will, as it only really works when he feels threatened or when he's being attacked.

Setback: can only apply this UM to certain parts of his body, also cannot apply this UM to other people as the process is kind of painful, although he's built a tolerance to it.

I really adored writing your ask since I got to really research Chinese myth and it was the first time I’ve properly written in awhile.

And I’m always happy to help give writing tips :D Writing tips hmmm… well Writing is a big topic so I’m gonna just narrow it down to my process! There are a lot of these on tumblr so I’m gonna try and it keep it kinda short.

Tips below the line!!

Describe the surroundings at a little bit, it’s better to give the reader at least a bit of an idea where everything’s happening so they can use it as a springboard!

Avoid describing characters in a list format. This is THE most boring thing you could do— spice it up by dropping things here or there within the space of one conversation so it’s more like the reader is slowly learning more about them.

If you’re writing gender neutral x reader like I do, avoid describing things about the reader directly. That’s kinda how you avoid the Y/N or H/C thing if you wanna as well. Instead, describe the way they do things or how they effect the other characters, their environment.

You could kinda approach describing characters at that angle too, the whole fanfiction green eyes thing is a bit over done. Try describing the way their gaze is holding yours or even how their eyeshadow gives them a devilishly seductive edge to their glare for example!

If you’re noticing that you’re using and or commas too much try swapping things like: as well as, consequently, before, also, alternative(ly), although, in spite of, since, as a result etc and remember that punctuation like ; and () exist for a reason!

If you’ve changed the subject, start a new paragraph. New dialogue? Start a new paragraph. New scene? Start a new paragraph. Character abruptly notices something? Start a new paragraph. This helps with pacing and prevents a lot of odd textblocks that don’t look interesting.

You can rant within the same paragraph though (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧

In regards researching for your stuff, I’m more used to looking for stuff for fantasy writing. I recommend sites like: Mythopedia for just mythology in general, Yokai.com for Japanese folklore and surprisingly OverlySarcasticProductions on youtube if you want a brief summary on various myths and history from around the world.

Whilst describing things, I usually try to give scenery some sort of personality to match the atmosphere happening. (A la: The god began to move across the mourning landscape cautiously but briskly.) From the ask post.

If you can really try and get into the head of the character, watch videos, play as them whatever. It helps a bunch!

Above all though write what makes sense to you, write with feeling.

Soooo I wrote a kinda rough draft story based on my stardew character so here it is :D

Starts off with the beginning of Elliot’s story, then there’s the sound of a foghorn and it switches to Elliot, startled out of his focus. He looks out the window, but there is only gray (see what I did there hehe)

Then it’s Anni, sitting on the mountain with Sebastian. She feels happy as she leans against him and watches the twinkling lights of the far of city she used to live in. Sebastian lights a cigarette, which Anni tells him he should quit. He grumbles that she’s probably right, but smiles, puts it out and kisses her. And etc, something like the mountain scene.

Anni is at first only friends with Abigail, Sam and Sebastian who is her boyfriend. She’s also acquainted with Emily, though she’s mostly just friendly.

Elliot is friends with the old fisher living on the docks, and Leah, a fellow artist who likewise came out to the country to focus on her creative works.

Elliot has seen the new resident of Stardew Valley around, but never really spoken to her. But one day they bump into each other at the supermarket, quite literally. Anni apologizes for hitting him and Elliot says he’ll only forgive her if she gets coffee with him.

“I have a boyfriend...” she says deadpan, but he assured her he only needs a break from his writing and someone to share his ideas with. Anni agrees if he’s going to pay the bill.

So he asks her what kind of books she likes and they talk about books for a while.

The next time they run into each other, Elliot finds Anni drinking in the back corner off the bar, and asks if he can sit with her. She agrees. After a few verbal exchanges, he finally asks her what’s wrong. Slightly buzzed, she vents about paying the bills, and Elliot relates that the most he can afford is his shabby cabin on the beach, but it’s charming in its own way and it’s the perfect place for his writing. Anni thinks it seems like a nice place to live, far away from other people. Like her boyfriend, she says, then starts complaining about how he sometimes seems like he could care less about her. Elliot assures her that certainly can’t be true, to which Anni just shrugs and takes another swig of beer. Elliot orders a whiskey, and they both drink and laugh till the bar closes.

The next day Anni appears at Elliot’s door with a basket of Apricots, apologizing for her whining last night, and thanking him for talking with her all night. He smiles and says it’s no big deal, and thanks her for the fruit. He asks her where she got it, she sheepishly replies that she grew them. He smiles and invites her in, she politely refuses saying she’s got plans with her boyfriend

She goes to the fair with Sebastian and Sam and Abigail. They go on the Ferris wheel and several roller coasters. Finally at the end of the night, they all get ice cream and watch the boats light up the river. Everything seems wonderful, but when Anni gives him a little flower, he is unenthusiastic when he takes it, then runs to catch up with Sam and Abigail. Anni rationalizes he just doesn’t like flowers that much, which she already knew, then goes to catch up too. When she gets home she lies on her bed and looks up at the ceiling, her anxious thoughts catching up with her once again. Does he really hate flowers that much? It was only a joke! Or was it her that he was unenthusiastic about?

She asks Abigail about it, who only says that Sebastian is an independent person, and it’s hard to tell what he’s thinking.

Sam says not to worry about it.

Back to Elliot, he is hanging out with Leah at the beach. She’s painting, and he’s writing down ideas for his story. Leah asks him how his story is going, which he enthusiastically says he’s gotten some much needed inspiration. Leah asks where he got it from, and he asks if she knows the new girl from the city. Leah hasn’t really interacted with her either. Elliot tells her about their coffee trip, and mentions that she seemed genuinely interested in his book, and had some great ideas. But mostly, it was her that inspired one of his characters. Leah teases his admiration of her, which Elliot waves off by saying writers tend to romanticize everything. He goes back to writing and periodically staring out at the sea.

Leah, intrigued by Elliot’s description of her, seeks out Anni and introduces herself. They talk as they shop, then She asks what kind of things Anni likes. Anni isn’t sure how to answer, she starts off with staple things like board games, hanging out at the bar with friends, then gets more comfortable and says she enjoys gardening and watching the fog rise from her pond in the early hours of the morning when it’s still dark. Leah says she would love to paint it sometime, and suggests they go apple picking. Right now? Anni is surprised but goes. They talk a lot and start becoming good friends.

Later Anni and Abigail Sam and Sebastian are trying to figure out what to do, Anni low key suggests apple picking. Sebastian shuts her down, saying he doesn’t really enjoy being out in the sun. Abigail agrees, saying she doesn’t want to get a sunburn. Anni is a little disappointed, but doesnt show it. They decide to play pool at the bar, which Anni still thinks is fun so it lifts her mood a bit. She has a good time, and Sebastian buys her a drink and tells her he’s sorry if he seemed kind of rude earlier. Anni tell him it’s fine and thanks him for the drink.

The next day, Anni goes with Leah and Elliot to skip stones across the lake. Anni tells them about how her other friends didn’t seem very interested in apple picking. Leah points out that not all people are interested in the same things. Anni expresses that she shares a lot of interests with Sebastian, but she wishes he wasn’t so emo sometimes. She brings up how he barely sets foot in the sun, at least not without a hoodie over his face. Elliot says that it’s great to share interests with someone, but in the end it’s shared values that makes them a precious friend. So even though Sebastian will not always agree with you, as long as you share a view of what’s important, you’ll be okay. Anni smiles and says that’s good advice. They continue skipping stones, until Anni gets a text from Sebastian saying “come immediately it’s important!” She apologizes and says she has to go. After she leaves, Leah says Anni is so cute! And Elliot agrees that she really is a sweet person.

Anni gets to Sebastian’s house and finds him grinning in the wet grass with a frog in his hands. “This is the emergency???” Anni asks, puzzled. “I never said emergency” Sebastian laughs, then shows her to frog, explaining how he found it by a little puddle. Anni thinks it’s cute that he’s so excited, but tells him not to make her worry. Sebastian laughs and tells her if he’s ever in trouble, he’ll use all Caps. Anni shakes her head, but laughs.

Next day Anni is working at the coffee shop, Leah comes in and says she didn’t know Anni worked here. Anni explains that she didn’t, she just applied for part time the other day to help with the bills. Leah asks her what her main job is. Anni doesn’t want to say at first, but after some prodding she admits that she’s a farmer. Leah thinks it’s awesome and asks why she’s shy about it. Anni tells her how Sebastian and Abigail and Sam aren’t really country people, and it rarely comes up. Leah asks if Sebastian knows, Anni says he does, but he’s never really come to the farm. He probably thinks it’s just a family business I help out with. Leah is concerned, but Anni says that she doesn’t plan to be a farmer forever anyway, she’s taking an online course for computer science. She and Sebastian might even open up their own business someday. Leah still isn’t convinced, but leaves it alone.

Some stuff in here, Anni tells the squad she likes farming and they are supportive, she introduces them to Elliot and Leah, they do some fun stuff together and become friends. Elliot helps Anni realize there are some red flags in her relationship with Sebastian, not that he is bad but they just might not be the most compatible for the long term. Meanwhile, Anni starts to catch feelings for Elliot, and battles with her growing love for him and her attachment to Sebastian. With the help of Abigail and Leah, and even Sam, she gathers the courage to work it out with Sebastian, and they decide that they should break up. Things are tense between them for a little bit, they still want to be friends but Sebastian is hurt that Anni doesn’t love him anymore, and Anni wants to reassure him but isn’t sure how to make him understand. Elliot finds her crying and she tells him about their breakup, and how she doesn’t love Sebastian any less, she just has realized they would only be unhappy if they continued a romantic relationship. Elliot comforts and hugs her, reassuring her that he only needs time to come to terms with it, and with enough patience and understanding hopefully they can patch things up properly. Anni hugs him tightly, then looks up at him before kissing him on the cheek. Elliot is surprised, but thinks she’s just emotional because of her situation.

The next day Anni apologizes, slightly embarrassed. Elliot tells her it’s alright, that she’s going through a lot and he understands. Anni can’t tell if she’s grateful he didn’t think anything of it, that’s one less thing to worry about right now, but she’s also kind of disappointed he doesn’t think of her that way. She moves on and asks Sebastian if they can talk. He agrees, and she lets him know that she never fell out of love with him, she just realized they wouldn’t be very happy in a long term relationship. Sebastian expresses that he thought he just hadn’t done enough for her, and that was why she didn’t want to be with him anymore. He’s relieved that’s not the case. They seem to get along better after that.

After that Anni continues talking to Elliot a lot, but now their conversations are much more relaxed and not about drama, many are about books and places they would love to travel, etc. Elliot finishes his book, and everyone comes to listen to his reading. He thanks everyone for their support, and thanks Anni for agreeing to have coffee with him one day, without her he would never have thought to write what he did. Soon after, Elliot invites Anni to go with him on his rowboat after he fixed it. Anni agrees, and they talk about his book for a while. Elliot starts to thank her again, then starts acting a little flustered and confused. For once I don’t have the right words.. he says... for the way I feel about you. He ends up kissing her on the cheek to convey his affections, asking her if she feels the same way. Anni happily agrees, and they share a kiss.

Soon after they start dating, making it publicly known. Abigail, Leah and Sam are supportive. Sebastian tried hard to be okay with it, but he resents Elliot.

They all go for a picnic by the lake. Sebastian acts defensive and rude around Elliot, and Anni is upset. She goes to talk to him, worried that she’s hurting him and sad that he can’t get along with Elliot. Elliot stops her, and says to let him talk to Sebastian. Anni is reluctant, but Elliot says that she doesn’t need to fix everything herself, and he wants to help. He goes and talks to Sebastian. Sebastian is annoyed at first, but after realizing Elliot truly loves Anni, he admits that he wants Anni to be happy, even if it means she isn’t by his side. Elliot suggests he let Anni know, so that she can be free of worry and released from her romantic ties to him. Sebastian ponders this for a moment, then frustratedly says he doesn’t want to let her go yet and storms off. Abigail walks up next to Elliot and says she’ll talk to Sebastian. She goes off, then returns with him, motioning him over too Anni. He pulls her away privately and tells her that he still loves her, but he can see that she’ll be a lot happier with Elliot. Anni hugs him and thanks him for understanding. Sebastian hesitates, then embraces her back for a moment, before she pulls away and takes his hand, beckoning him back to the rest of the group. Sebastian tells Elliot to treat her better than he could have. Elliot laughs and agrees, then goes over to Anni and hugs her from behind. Sebastian watches wistfully, but smiles and looks towards Abigail, who nods approvingly.

And so on and so forth, a happy ending :)

SO, I am so sorry, but I can't decide what to ask for the character ask meme, so I'm asking EVERYTHING for Jackie pls forgive me ;w;

1. How likely are they to have a stuffed animal? What kind? How many?

They currently only have one stuffed animal atm. Their Sheepy Sleep Sheep. Or Fluffy as Jackie calls it!

If they had any more stuffed animals, they'd name every one of them. They do not though, only got the one.

2. What does their bedroom look like?

Currently, unless they're bunking with Abbigull in her captains quarters, it looks like your regular Salty Squabble barracks. I don't know if they're able to personalize it or not, due to the barracks being for crewmates hired for short voyages rather than long staying family.

Regardless, their room has always been pretty empty. Jackie doesn't have a lot of belongings. They didn't have enough to fill their studio apartment and what they had there is all being abandoned due to Reasons™️. They certainly don't have enough to fill a room right now.

3. Do they collect things for themselves? What do they collect?

Things to chew on, mostly? And Jackie, the child brained dumbass that they are, will put damn near anything in their mouth. They also like to collect gears, bits, bobs, screws, small pieces of metal and tools, though! Also anything dinosaur related. They LOVE dinosaurs.

4. Do they cuddle/snuggull/hug in their sleep? Do they talk in their sleep?

Jackie is the kind of toon that needs pressure when they sleep and thus snuggulls Very Much Into Things, but really only allows two birds, a dog and maybe a rat they've known for a while to be PEOPLE they snuggull into. Otherwise, they mostly just burrow into blankets and hug Fluffy.

5. What are they most afraid of? Does it cause them nightmares? How bad?

6. How do they respond to stress? Any habits they have when stressed?

Oh boy. They respond to stress mostly by becoming irritable and itchy. If it gets bad enough, they begin to stress molt and combined with their scratching? Depending on what causes it as well, they have gotten physically ill and lost their lunch before. Not Good. Tbh though, Jackie is easily prone to stressing out. They may not look/show it, but this penguin is a ball of anxiety with damn near no skills to manage it, yet.

7. Do they prefer warm, mild or cold baths/showers?

Warm baths, tbh! Showers are nice but they're small and sometimes the strength of the water from the showerhead hurts. Also, they can't splash around as easily in a shower, so not as fun! Don't expect them to come out actually clean though. They learned how to bathe from their dog Todd.

8. What's their view on socks/shoes/pants?

They wear pants usually anyways, so their viewpoint on those is just: [Meh!]

Socks and shoes though? That's a different story. They can't wear socks bc of their talons, but they can wear shoes! It's a learning process, tbh, but they're doing it! They can't figure out how to tie them though. Hmm...

9. Do they like ice in their drinks? how much?

Yes and no. Depending on the drink. They don't drink as many cold beverages as they used to anymore, but when they do, it's usually either icy cold or has plenty of ice in it.

Hmm... Probably their light up sneakers! As for their favorite home decor... they don't really have any.

Jackie gets lethargic as hell and incredibly needy. Growing up a sick kid, their immune system isn't the greatest and combining that with what else they went through? Yeah, no, they're pretty prone to getting sick. It doesn't help that they really don't know what to do other than eat soup and sleep to make it better.
