Clarisse x Reader - Once More to See You

Clarisse x gn! reader, any cabin

An- sorry this took so long to get out! Anyways, thank you guys so much for liking my other Clarisse fics! This is my fourth one, so I hope that they get better with the more I write, but pls let me know if this is bad! Idk where my mind was when I wrote this lol. 3.3k words! Let me know if I messed anything up, and tell me what you guys thought of the last pjo ep! Dior looked as beautiful as always!!!!

The sun was almost to much to bear.

Beating down on Clarisse, it was almost melting. But she continued to swing her spear at the training dummy, hitting as hard as she could while making sure to be acutely aware of where she was landing the hits.

She was also very aware of the eyes that followed her every move. 

She knew that it was you, the only person at camp she allowed to get close to her. For some reason.

“Do you want to train with me?” She paused to yell and to look over at you.

“I’ll pass.” You were standing on the sidelines holding Clarisse's water bottle and her towel. She looked back at the dummy once before relaxing a bit and walking over to you. She grabbed the water and jugged it.

“How's day goin’ for you, angel?” You rolled your eyes just a bit and smiled at her nickname for you. She has called you that ever since you two really became friends, and almost gone is the flustered feeling it used to give you.

Almost.

“Really good actually, pretty girl.” Clarisse then took that chance to roll her eyes back at you, but the sun was definitely getting hotter because there was definitely no other reason why Clarisse’s face was feeling so warm all of the sudden, even after her intake of cool water.

“Oh yeah? What have you been doing?” She took the towel that you had extended to her and sat down on the closest bench. She nodded along as you recounted your day and how you spent the most of it doing crafts and training with the younger campers. She sat and listened until it was time for dinner, where the two of you sat side by side at the Ares table, even though it wasn’t technically allowed.

A few of her siblings teased the two of you, but it was a common occurrence, so they all knew that this was normal and would continue to be so. But they also couldn't just let it slide.

Clarisse made sure you were close by the rest of the night, completing both of your nightly routines that have over time molded together to make sure that they could fit like a puzzle piece.

She walked you to your cabin, and just like on any other night, there was a slight itch in her hand and the thought in her brain that she should be holding on to you in some way.

Linked hands, her arm around your shoulder, her hand guiding you whilst being placed on the small of your back. All feel like they could be the most natural thing in the world, if only your relationship could be just a little different.

“I’ll see you tomorrow, ‘kay?” Your question broke her from her thoughts and she just nodded.

“Yeah. Sleep tight, got it?” You smiled and hesitated before pulling her in for a quick hug. She tried to get over her surprise fastly, but you were quicker to end the hug then she was able to melt into you.

“So, um… goodnight.” You turned and walked into your cabin, Clarisse and one of your siblings who had witnessed the event watching with wide eyes. She made eye contact with them, and her shock dropped from her face. “Scram.” Your sibling nodded and wordlessly walked past her, going to some place she could care less about.

She stood there for another minute or so, her hand covering the bottom off her face as she sighed. The sun was gone now, but for some reason, her face felt all too hot right now.

She was beginning to think that the reason and cause had to do something with you.

Clarisse woke with a start the minute the creak of a floor board was heard across the cabin. She had practically trained herself to be awake at any moment, though she could mostly thank her fathers genes for that convenient trait.

None of her siblings seemed to have got it though, since none of them had even stirred.

She squinted her eyes to try to see through the darkness. “Hello?” she whispered out. The outline of a person stuck standing near the doorway visibly let some tension out of their shoulders as they began to move towards her, seemingly uncaring of the other little creaks that the old wood would let out.

“Clarisse?” Clarisse also then let out a breath, as well as a lot of the tension she was also holding.

“Angel? What are you doing here?” She sat up a bit more properly and scooted more to the side of her bed that was touching the wall, patting the now empty wedge, the sheets still wrinkled from the few hours of tossing and turning and sleep she had got.

You moved into that space next to her, bringing your knees up to your chin and  your arms wrapped around your legs.

Uh oh. Clarisse thought. The fetal position was never a good sign.

She hesitated before reaching her own arm around your shoulders, pulling you a bit closer to her, hoping that you could soak in some of the warmth Ares kids were notorious to have.

But she was still an Ares kid.

Comfort was not something she was really familiar with.

“What happened?” Her mind began to wander a bit, thinking that you must have gotten hurt. But who would hurt you knowing they would have to face her wrath? Her hands shook a little as she went through a list in her mind of potential people. It must have been one of your siblings, probably the one who-

“I had a nightmare.” Your voice was barely audible, but just the sound almost instantly calmed Clarisse down.

“Yeah? Do you want to talk about it? Or….” you shook your head no. “Do you want to stay the night here?”

You shifted a bit to look at her, and she noticed your eyes were a bit red and puffy. She wondered a bit about what could have happened in your dream if it made you have this strong of a reaction. All demigods got nightmares, you and Clarisse being no exception.

But this was the first time you had ever sought the other out like this.

“Can I?” You whispered.

“Any time.” She gently coaxed you out of your position so that way the two of you could lay flat on your backs, her arm still protectively holding you. “You know that I’m super strong, right? Whatever was scary in your dream was definitely no match against me.” You giggled, and Clarisse smiled.

She then spent some time talking about how she could protect you against anything, right until you fell asleep. She watched you for a moment, the peaceful look and the rise and fall of your chest bringing her comfort. She gently pushed a bit of hair away from your face and refused the urge in which was telling to place a kiss on your forehead.

She settled beside you, and sleep came easier for her then it had ever been since she had found out she was the daughter of war.

Sunlight streamed a bit too harshly through the windows making Clarisse try to close her eyes tighter. She groaned when she realized it was useless.

Someone cuddled in closer to her, their arms getting stronger around her waist. She tensed up a bit before remembering last night. The both of you were laying on your sides facing each other, all of your limbs seemed to be entangled with hers. She leaned into you more and began to close her eyes again.

That was before she heard the giggles of her siblings.

Her eyes shot open, and there were some of her brothers and sisters, standing above her bed, two of them with cameras. “What the fu- get away! Get!” She whisper- yelled, trying her best to not be close to your ear while making sure you didn't move much. Her siblings just laughed, took a picture, and then ran out of the cabin, their heavy steps making her flinch.

“What time is it?” Your voice distracted her from glaring at the still left open door. Her eyes flickered to her alarm clock. “It’s almost nine.” You hummed and burrowed your face into her neck.

She tried to ignore that.

Clarisse was always an early riser. Sleeping in any time after seven made her moody, and naps were completely out of the question and annoying to her.

So how was she able to sleep till nine, breaking her 5:30 wake up and missing both of her alarms? And why did she feel so… rejuvenated? Were you numbing her senses?

“We should get up.” You looked up at her, your eyes all sleepy and a small frown on your face.

“You don’t want to stay with me?”

Oh.

The room felt a bit hotter all of the sudden.

“Don’t you have classes to teach? The kids can't learn how to craft all by themselves.” She smirked as you blinked at her. You groaned and sat up, cutting off the skin contact and effectively making Clarisse feel colder and as if she was missing something.

“You’re lucky that I like what I do. I’ll see you at lunch, ‘kay?” You smiled at her and got up, stretching as you left her cabin to walk to yours.

All Clarisse could think about was; "is she actually lucky?"

The rest of the day seemed to go like normal, with you and Clarisse doing your separate duty’s while still finding times and places where the two of you could meet.

She was able to track and threaten her siblings, the ones who had taken the pictures of you two sleeping. She confiscated the camera, but when no one else was looking she pocketed one of the photos.

For safekeeping. She justified to herself.

To make sure that no one else would see it.

That night when you said your good nights, you hugged her again. This time it was a hug she was able to lean into, one that she was able to savor.

She was about to offer you to stay with her again, just another night. But the words got stuck in her throat as you pulled away.

“Stay safe, promise?'' Your words made her curious, but she wasn’t going to question you. It clicked that this was probably because of your dream.

“Have you even met me?” She laughed a bit, and you smiled at her softly.

It made her falter a bit. If any enemies were just a smidge like her, then that smile alone would stop an army.

“I’ll see you tomorrow. I promised the kids that we would teach the sword class together.” She sounded a bit breathless, and she hoped that it was only in her mind. You hesitated, but nodded.

“See you tomorrow.”

Clarisse has been on edge ever since the clock turned to twelve. It was around this time that you had come to her yesterday, and even though it was a one time event, (or so she figured it would be), it felt like there was a pit in her stomach, and she couldn't help but feel like you were in some sort of danger.

She was almost ready to jump off her bed and speed walk to your cabin.

“Clarisse, can you stop?” One of her siblings whispered from some other bunk and she sighed. She realized that she was tossing and turning louder than she thought.

“I’m taking a walk.” She flipped the sheets off of her and walked out the door, making her way silently to your cabin. There were only a handful of times that she has been in here, but she knew where your bed was.

You were tossing and turning worse then how she was, sweat dripping down your chin to your neck. She gently touched your shoulder, something she knew she probably shouldn't have done, but it was enough to wake you from your sleep.

You sat up fast, your chest moving rapidly as you tried to catch your breath. You gulped.

“Clarisse? What… why are you here?” Your eyebrows furrowed as you looked at her, still breathing hard.

“I felt that you weren't okay. Another nightmare?” You nodded as she continued to stand above you.

“Well, if you're okay, I'm gonna- I’ll… leave.” She turned around, but your hand caught her wrist with a tight grip before she was able to get far.

“Can you… can you stay?'' You were looking at her with those eyes again, and her breath was gone as well.

“Yeah. I can.” Her voice was too soft, a soft that would make her father distaste her even more. But she climbed into your bed, and for another night she slept with you in her arms.

The two of you occupied each other's beds for the next month, but neither of you spoke of the tension that riddled the space between you.

Nightmares didn't plague you any more, and Clarisse was getting better sleep then she had ever gotten before. That was until Chiron called her to his office.

“A quest?” Chiron nodded.

“Yes, one that was provided by one of the gods themselves, Hera. She asked for an Ares kid to complete this for her. You’ll think about it, won’t you?”

Clarisse nodded slowly.

“Perfect. Now, get back to your activities.”

Clarisse left his office like that. Her mind was clouded, and she didn't really know what to do.

Of course she had to take it, this was another great opportunity to show how great she was to her dad, and how far her training has come.

But she couldn't help thinking: what about you? How would you be if she had left? Quests could take up any amount of time, and what if something happened to her? Or you while she was away?

“What was that about?” Luke appeared next to her, catching her by surprise. She swallowed the lump in her throat.

“A quest. They specifically want me.” Luke nodded, and he had that weird thoughtful look on his face that made Clarisse’s nose wrinkle.

The two of them hardly got along well, but as cabin counselors they had to be civil. She looked around at the trees as they walked together towards the training ground, that is until Luke spoke your name.

“Do they know?” He asked. She shook her head.

“No other campers but you knows.” He just nodded his head again. He smirked and looked at her.

“Can't wait to see how that goes.” And then he turned and walked the other way, leaving Clarisse standing there in slight shock. What was that about? Did he know something she didn’t?

She shook it off the best that she could before walking to where you were.

There was a smile on your face as you helped an eight year old boy from the Hermes cabin hold his sword properly. She watched as you stepped back and let him swing it at the target, clapping your hands and laughing a bit once he finally got it right. He ran to give you a hug, and you hugged him back, and she could tell from where she was that you were praising his abilities. Clarisses heart felt so full, and all though she thought it was impossible, she could swear she was falling for you even more.

Maybe Silena was right, and she is a stickler for domesticy. Maybe a quest wasn't what would make her truly happy. Maybe it was a life with you.

“Clarisse!” You were running towards her and she caught you in a hug.

“Hey. I was actually hoping that we could talk for a bit.” The smile stayed on your face while confusion clouded your eyes and your eyebrows furrowed.

“Sure, okay.”

The two of you walked into the forest together, stopping in a clearing which happened to be Clarisse’s favorite place at camp. Other than wherever you were. You took her hand in yours in a way that she assumed you thought would bring her comfort, but it just made her heart beat faster.

“The gods want me to go on a quest.” She blurted out. Your face and mood fell and you took your hand out of her grip gently.

“And what did you say?”

“Well, I'm technically still thinking about it, but I think that this could be good for me. Hera wants this thing done for her, and you know that I have trained for this, and it would be nice if my father would recognize me at least once. But I also- Angel? Are you okay?”

You looked as if you were about to cry, one hand hovering over where your heart is and the other almost covering your mouth. You were shaking like a leaf in the wind, and Clarisse didn’t like it one bit.

She moved towards you, placing her hands on either side of your shoulders and helping you sit on the ground. She put your face in between her collarbone and neck, stroking your hair softly as you sniffled.

“What’s wrong?” She was unsure that you would answer, but you shifted your head a bit back.

“This is just like my nightmare.”

It all kind of made sense now.

“I had them, for like, a week before I first went to your cabin. It’s always the same some how, with you accepting a quest from Hera and never returning, or you go missing and I have to be the one to find your body, or I go with you and I can’t do anything about that stupid monster you fight, and I just-” You were crying, Clarisse could practically feel them burn into her skin.

“I don’t want to lose you Clarisse. Not on a dumb quest or ever. I don’t know what to do without you.” Clarisse nodded a bit and fiddled with a piece of your hair.

“I chased away the dreams though, right?” She had no clue if you would appreciate any type of small joke she made, and she figured she was dead when you pulled away from her a little and looked into her eyes, your lips slightly parted in what she could only guess was surprise.

Then you leaned in and kissed her on the mouth.

She was surprised, just like how she was when you had first hugged her. You pulled away quicker this time, fear evading finding your eyes for the split second before Clarisse pulled you back in, returning the kiss you first started with as much passion as she could possibly convey. You were both breathless the next moment once you realized that you had to get air.

“I don’t know what to do about the quest.” Clarisse whispered. She didn’t know why she did, but she felt like something could break if she didn’t.

“I don’t know either.” You responded, your voice as low as hers.

“I-... I think I like you.” Clarisse confessed.

Although they weren't exactly the words she wanted to say, (She knew for a fact that she was in love with you), but it still felt as if a slight weight was lifted off of her. You leaned back into her, so close that she could practically feel the smile that grew on your face on her lips.

“I think I like you too, pretty girl.” And she smiled too.

“Why do you call me that?” She tilted her head as you leaned back and laughed.

“Because you're pretty.”

The way you said it with so much certainty, as if you knew she could rival Aphrodite herself, made Clarisse feel bubbly, and she wasn’t someone who would ever really feel like that.

She didn't know what she would do about the quest.

She didn’t know what you would do if you found out if she ever accepted, or what punishment she would face if she were to turn it down.

But Clarisse La Rue was in love with you, and she would protect you from those nightmares for as long as you let her.

Hello hello! I’d like to request some platonic into romantic headcannons on an Alastor x fallen ex-exorcist/exterminator reader please :>

Small background: Reader fell for whatever reason and maybe a few days to a week (or even months-) afterward they end up striking a deal with Alastor, where they’ll be under his protection (because as skilled as they are it wouldn’t matter much with the entirety of hell on their ass) but he gets a pretty good portion of their power in return or maybe something else that you think Alastor would take.

okay i LOVE this concept — i think it be the slowest fucking burn in the world tho like

you were never one of adam’s favorites, as you had the tendency to spare demons who seem harmless, but covered it nearly everytime

during this last extermination, however, he was trying to catch you fucking up the plan, so the minute you skipped over someone, he had lute launch her weapon at you

i doubt he’d let her kill you or anything, but he definitely just left you there for the demons to finish off, probably pinned to the ground with lute’s spear in your wing or something before he called all the other exorcists back (and he made sure to leave your halo so even if you did change clothes people knew what you were)

luckily (not really) you’d be in cannibal town, so before anyone could get to you, alastor’s probably just walking around like nothings happening (LMAO) and sees you

i doubt he’d make it known he saw you, like he’d definitely keep humming merrily down the street until he saw you struggling to get away from him as quickly as possible and tearing your wing even more

“my, my, let’s calm down, shall we?” he’d laugh and take the spear out of your wing. “isn’t that better, little bird?” but he’d say that while literally pointing the spear at you so don’t feel too safe

you’d definitely get defensive and shoot into the air with your weapon, ready to kill, and i think after seeing you still attempting to fly with that damaged of a wing (like its fucked up), he’d be impressed enough to drop the spear he had with a very big grin

“you’d better hide, little bird”

and you’d take his warning to fly off, quickly snatching lute’s weapon with yours in case you needed to defend yourself

he would literally just smile and watch you leave before continuing to hum and walk down the street

it’d probably be like a solid three days of hiding and having to fight for your life before the damage to your wing really messed with you and you had to force yourself to find a good hiding place

maybe you see charlie on the news and notice that no one seems to want to go to her hotel, so you force yourself to fly all the way there like a week after her horrible interview (ep 1) and practically collapse at the front door

of course you recognize vaggie and of course you practically run over and hug her despite the spear pointed at you… and of course that means vaggie either may or may not have to confess depending on if you pick up that no one knows or not (off the concept but im sparing chaggie heartbreak)

“who the fuck is this?” would be the first thing you hear from a spider demon and you’d have to explain what you were and hope they didn’t kill you — which, duh, charlie wouldn’t that let happen

“hello again, little bird,” would make everyone shut up because… how does alastor know you??? of course, he doesn’t answer their questions, just says hello and moves on like it’s all normal

your first day would totally be catching up with vaggie, probably breaking down because you needed to get back to heaven and had no way there

i think exorcists probably have a little bit of angelic power, but they probably can’t create portals without that power being given to them or something which means you have no way home and no where to go

vaggie and charlie of course tell you to stay, but once anyone shows up they’ll know you’re here and all of hell would be coming to the hotel to try and get to you — and you didn’t want to ruin what they had going (even if it was small you thought it was a great idea) so they probably give you a change of clothes, something more hellish, and tell you to stay until you have somewhere else to go

that would probably give alastor the perfect opportunity to talk to you privately and offer his protection

you wouldn’t take his offer at first, but once pentious shows up and the overlords somehow find out that charlie is hiding an angel in her hotel (vox and his stupid drones) you dont really have a choice

i dont think he’d ask for any power in return, but i do think you’d owe him a favor each time he has to protect you

vox would probably give subtle hints in all the programs he runs, so alastor would have to protect you very often

that meant if he ordered you to get rid of someone, you did it — whether that meant by the snap of your fingers with holy light (which they could potentially survive or respawn from) or killing them with your exorcist weapon was totally up to him sometimes, he just asked that you create a bouquet of flowers for his room

usually the people he had you “take care of” were repulsive enough, and you never minded creating things with your abilities, so you agreed to what he asked with ease

it’d be a little time before who he instructed you to “take care of” slowly shifted to anyone who wronged you

of course, he’d still protect you, but if he didn’t own their soul and he didnt have an angelic weapon, he couldn’t ensure that they wouldn’t come back, so he asked you, “do you think they’ll come back for you, little bird?” if you were unsure, or knew it was likely they’d come back for the person that ended up being the reason they had to go through the painful process of respawning, he’d tell you to just kill them

it’d probably come to a point where he stopped asking for favors, made sure you were alright, and told you to focus on what you needed to do while he “did his job”

i think eventually you’d find a place you think could be safe and once your wing is totally healed up and alright you’d say your goodbyes even though you weren’t that close with anyone but vaggie (also i feel like niffty would be down to talk to u about her bug battles or some shit)

anyway, when you go to say bye to alastor, he definitely cashes in his favor with a simple “hmm, no” cus he sees no reason for you to leave??? like so what everyone else’s lives are in danger by you being here… you’re safer here

so you’d stay, and it’d definitely make charlie happy because if she can get an angel back to heaven that’d prove she could actually do this

you’d be pissed at alastor for a while, but slowly, it seemed like demons understood that by coming for you, they were fucking with the radio demon (and we all know how that goes) so after a few months you were finally left alone

in that time you’d totally help spruce up the hotel while slowly forgetting why you wanted to go back

but every once in a while you’d have a very prolonged sadness about the situation… heaven was your home after all, and even if you liked the hotel, you could never leave because the minute you stepped outside, there was a line for your head — you were trapped there (like a bird in a cage — hence the nickname)

i think even though everyone likes having you there, vaggie would eventually bring up lucifer (like he can literally open a portal…)

but immediately alastor is not fucking having it and he cashes in another one of his pent up favors, saying that getting back to heaven through a fallen angel was the dumbest thing you could do if you wanted it to look like you were the one wronged in this situation (he has a point i fear)

i think this is where you kind of accept that you’re not going home and maybe just give up because 1. you can’t go to the heaven embassy since you’d just be met with adam and 2. the only person that could get you contact wasn’t a good option

i think now would be when alastor recognizes how much you want to go home and finds himself feeling bad?? for keeping you, but he just wants you to get home safely and surely

still, once he sees that you literally wont leave your room and have contemplated taking your own halo he compromises to let you try going to the heaven embassy to see if you could get a meeting with anyone but adam

you said it wasn’t possible, but he insisted “i can’t have you looking so upset all the time, birdie” he’d say while using his hand to squish your cheeks into a smile just to make you laugh

so you’d go — i think you’d totally get there safely but once demons see an exorcist angel coming out of the heaven embassy, you have to fight the minute you step out of the building

you can 100% see holy light from the hotel, so the minute alastor sees a golden beam he’s out the door

you can handle your own, so you fought them off, but i’d imagine you get injured and that’s what really makes alastor realize he’s falling for you cus he’s seething

even just a minuscule amount of golden blood on you had him tearing apart any demon who even looked like they’d been near you

i hate to say it but i don’t think this would be a happy ending — reader loves heaven even though they hate being an exorcist and alastor knows that so he’d definitely keep his feelings hidden and if you showed any signs of feelings for him he’d be terrified because an angel falling, literally falling because thats what would happen to you, for someone like him would never get you back home

obviously it’d come to a point where he doesn’t want you to leave, but at the same time, he’d never keep you

if i did end up writing an actual fic of this it’d probably end on a bit of a cliffhanger ex. reader getting accepted back and being hesitant with alastor’s last favor just him saying, “if you want to stay for anyone, don’t,” and letting you decide whether or not to go back

OR reader being accepted back but still having to be an exorcist, so the next time they see alastor is the finale where adam would 100% put them against him

OK SO BRAINROT CONSUMED ME AND I WANNA TRY MAKING SOME PURELILY ANGST AU

Get ready for a long ass wall of text of my random rambles + sprite edit

Fallen king au(?): after the events of beast yeast eps 1-2, shadow milk wasn’t fully sealed away, instead part of him managed to reside in pure vanilla’s mind (don’t ask how this part even works just bare with me vro). Over the span of a few months shadow milk would mentally torture pure vanilla in an attempt to get him vulnerable enough to be able to control him, starting off as just simply annoying him but overtime becoming more and more horrible and traumatic. In the beginning vanilla would continuously resist against him, trying to stay strong and refuse to let shadow milk control him. This would happen around the same time lily was very mentally fragile after the events of beast yeast, elder faerie’s death AND her guilt of being DE, so at first she didnt really notice vanilla’s declining mental state, as he would mask it pretty well and was busy trying to help her. As lily got better vanilla simply just got worse and worse, the lack of sleep, how little hes been eating out of stress, and the horrible anxiety he had caused by shadow milk was taking a toll on him, as hed start to isolate himself and become more irritable and angry. Lily had started to suspect something was wrong with vanilla, as he isn’t like this at all, but when she’d question him and ask if he’s alright he’d either just lie and say everything was fine, push her and others away or just lash out a bit. Eventually shadow milk gave vanilla a choice, either 1: keep resisting and shadow milk would keep up the mental torture, or 2: give up and let shadow milk fully take over, that he would stop the torture and vanilla could finally be “free”. Vanilla just couldn’t take it anymore and decided to just stop resisting, letting the jester take over his mind and body, resulting in vanilla getting locked away within his own mind. Shadow milk having finally taken over takes a few days to regain the body’s physical strength and then causes havoc in the vanilla kingdom, later he goes to beast-yeast to cut down the silver tree. Lily chases after him, confronting him at the tree and they fight it out, she tries her hardest to talk her way through to him, trying to reach vanilla but to no avail, vanilla isn’t there anymore. She later has no choice but to seal him away, seal away her best friend, her best friend that was there for her, her best friend who she knew from their school days, and most painfully the one she fell in love with. She succeeds in sealing him away inside the tree, and as shes doing so she doesn’t see him as the evil beast he has become, instead she sees the little vanilla from their school days, she sees her very best friend, crying as he’s sealed away. Madney taking in Mara in a truly flabbergasting series of events???? There's no way they'd be approved as a kinship home for Mara, and there is no possible way on this earth they would be licensed as foster caregivers that quickly. Also, if Ortiz's interference removed Mara from Henren, why would she not continue to interfere with Mara being placed with Madney? (As if such a person would even have influence in this situation in the first place.) I mean, I like that the outlook is positive now, so yay? This one might just be me because I work in foster care and I just know how things work, but it is so grating. Oh, also, there is no way Hen would be able to just march into the group home and see Mara. No. Way. A fabricated tale that doesn't exist. I know, I know, I know, it's tv. But they could have done a modicum of research :')

Okay, I guess the one satisfying part was that Amir's character and intentions were finally made clear... he was so clearly innocent, just hurt. I appreciated his role in this season and the actor KILLED it.

Dang I'm just frustrated with this season's writing overall. Bi Buck is wonderful, but I can't say I enjoyed a lot else, but it seems like I'm in the minority idk! I understand it was only 10 eps though and I'm still glad we got the season. I'm a Buddie shipper btw, but if it doesn't go canon, I'll live. However... it seems almost like the writers themselves haven't even decided, and um... they need to decide and then they need to commit to what they decide. I've been saying that for a loooong time. Keeping it THIS open-ended and hinting around is a disservice to everyone at this point, I think. I just think they're scared to make a choice, honestly.

with reference to @ranchthoughts @lurkingshan and @waitmyturtles 's post here and here I COMPLETELY agree that the show hints a lot towards impermanence of life and the fact every moment is fleeting each time, with decisions taken by each character towards their life indicates how they don't think twice while taking a decision.

i would like to link ephemerality with control - because that also, i feel, will become a running subtheme in the series - because as these characters will have the wish being in the moment and having the control respectively.

Sand wants to have boundaries within the friends with benefits bracket as that establishes some sort of control for him - where money, job security and materialism are things out of his control

Ray is wiling to buy off Sand in order to get some control in his life because the love he desires, the abandonment of people and loneliness in his life are left out and he has only money that can buys him the control the loneliness somehow.

Mew and Top want to have a control of the way they approach the relationship because they want to play with each other in terms of control. they believe individually they are at the higher end but that isn't the case.

Nick and Boston is the most interesting pair so far; Nick wants to have control on how he feels by asking Boston to label this relationship in order to fall less and Boston doesn't want any drama in his life as he sticks to one night stands but wants to have control on Top since that stand has imprinted in his memory and somehow bring Mew down. But since he can't have what he wants, he sends pretty mixed signals to Boston which according to him are clear but confuse Nick.

When shit hits the fan, all control will be lost, it will be too late and it will glorify as burning into a thousand suns.

in general: i feel like s3 was as filler season that showed carmy's regression (in a way) as a chef and a person. if it weren't for luca and richie i probably would've tapped out after ep 6. i also think it was very beautiful and has a few episodes that i'll definitely be rewatching (ep1, ep5, ep6, ep8)

plot wise i thought this season felt a lot slower than the first two. i feel like this season was a bit of a filler season, and felt v much similar to limbo in a way. we had a major thing happen in the first season, a major thing happen in the second, and then this season was just kind of there. but i both like and dislike that. i think if any other show released s3 then it would really weaken the overall run but i dont think s3 of the bear was weak i just thought it was slow.

i think it was very artistically beautiful, especially ep 1. i really liked that episode ive never rlly seen an episode of a show like that before. i liked the more peaceful look into carmy's training (copenhagen carmy!!! and when he was w that one chef and he wore the hat :(( so sweet).

character wise specifically carmy, oh i was fuming. hes so childish once again, he's so stubborn, but i adored how the end was able to show carmy that he wasn't becoming a good person he was just becoming jeff (winger ... i never call the old chef by his real name i always call him jeff bc joel plays jeff in community. i think the chef's name is david).

im praying that sydney stays w the bear bc she could make a difference w adam and it would definitely be easier, but i dont think it would be as rewarding if she didn't do it w everyone at the bear.

no complaints abt the writing. i always believe the writers know what they're doing so i generally have no complaints.

i also cried a bit during ep10. im thinking abt getting an every second counts tattoo. i need to live a happy domestic like w luca in copenhagen or wherever he wants to go.

Just in case: I do not mention book spoilers for the Dance itself, but I do bring in like one or two points from Fire & Blood related to scenes in the episode.

This is all going off memory, so it might be a little jumbled. Also, this is not an invitation to start team discourse or character bashing. That’s not what this blog is for. That said, I’m happy to talk more about the episode if anyone wants!

Overall I thought it was a good episode until the end (more on that later). The beginning was a little rough with the number of short scenes/cuts (is that the right word? lol), but I totally understand the necessity of getting all the major players on the screen in the first few minutes.

I am a Stark girlie first, so it was nice to see the North again and hear the Winterfell theme. With very little direct mention of the White Walkers, I’m curious to see if the show leans into the Song of Ice and Fire prophecy going forward. This is a complete aside, but I’m not really sure how I feel about it. I’m pretty sure Aegon’s dream came straight from Martin, but idk if I buy that the knowledge survived Maegor. Maybe Aegon the Uncrowned told Rhaena, and she told Jaehaerys? I don’t know.

ANYWAY I guess I thought we would have a longer scene with Jace and Cregan showing more of their friendship or bond, but with only 8 episodes this season the writers couldn’t really allow that to breathe. In a world with 9 or even 10 episodes this season, I think (and this is totally off the cuff) a good premiere would have covered Jace’s time in the North, Rhaenyra searching for Luke and deciding that she will go to war, Team Black’s grief, the Greens finding out about Luke’s death and their reactions/realizing war is no doubt inevitable now/etc. and leaving Blood & Cheese for the second episode.

Rhaenyra’s scenes were extremely powerful. Emma is such an amazing actor, and you can really feel Rhaenyra’s grief and anger. Jace’s return, their embrace, and Luke’s funeral were excellent. I wish there had been more time to explore their grief, but I get it.

Rhaenys’s “Would that you were king” was so great lmao. I loved Rhaenys in the book, and I’m looking forward to seeing her role this season. Corlys wasn’t really in the episode a lot, but his scene with Alyn was interesting. It wasn’t clear to me what exactly their relationship with each other is at this point, but we’ll see how the show approaches it.

I don’t have super strong feelings about Daemon telling Blood & Cheese to go after Aemond. I know before the episode aired some people were mad because they thought it was going to be another case of misunderstanding/them going rogue on their own, but I thought the episode made it pretty clear that he told them off-screen to kill Helaena’s son if they couldn’t find Aemond. Jaehaerys and Helaena were the targets from the get-go in the book, and there is lots to be said about the dishonor of targeting a child during a war and the psychological damage his death was intended to inflict, but this is a change I’m personally okay with. I totally understand if people aren’t, though.

Aegon was great! I’d seen TGC being referred to as one of the standouts of the first four episodes, and wow is that completely right. He seems to me the type of dad who likes to play with the kids but then won’t discipline them haha. Tyland beefing with Jaehaerys was hilarious. Aegon is still new at the whole king thing, and I’ll admit I was side-eying him a little with Otto when he was like “yeah, everyone can get everything they’re asking for, it’s whatever” but as my friend (and others) pointed out it completely tracks with him wanting to be liked by everyone. It also is a good continuation of his coronation scene – you can see him transform when the crowd starts to cheer, so it makes sense that he’d want to keep that energy going, especially with a rival claimant.

Also, I think Otto is such a fun character. Him immediately turning to walk up the steps of the throne as soon as Aegon said anything was so funny to me. I know a lot of people hate Otto, but I do think he’s a good Hand of the King.

I’m really interested to see how Alicent’s arc goes this season, how much influence she’ll have as the war goes on and all that and how she’ll feel about everything. Right now her and Otto are both frustrated by Aegon (and Aemond) so I’m excited by the potential there. I’m also curious about her reaction next episode – she’s still wanting peace right now (understandable! Dragons going to war only brings death and destruction, fire & blood) but that might change after Jaehaerys’s murder. We shall see.

I’m fine with Alicole happening because it was clear in season 1 that they were devoted to each other, but I wish we had gotten more build up to it rather than just starting the episode with them together because it just raises a ton of questions. When did they start, being the obvious one. And them being together during Blood & Cheese was ridiculous. I’ve seen some people blaming them for it even happening, which is also silly.

On the topic of Blood & Cheese… wow I hated how they adapted it. The entire reason they sneaked in through the secret passageways in the book was because of the sheer number of guards in the Red Keep. Yet in the show there’s not a single one in the wing in which the royal family reside? Please be serious. And them just walking through the throne room? Stop. I’m assuming they’re trying to go with everyone having a sense of guilt over it but come on.

And Helaena’s reaction was way too muted. I understand that she was disassociating, but to only have her offer her necklace and then just point Jaehaerys out? No. My friend mentioned to me that in Helaena’s first scene she is saying something like “they only want the boy,” which I completely missed, so she apparently already saw it happening. And I think that could have opened the door (and maybe it will in future episodes, I can’t say) to explore how Helaena’s dreams “work” – the show hasn’t really done a lot with it, and I think it would have been really powerful if Helaena did all she could to try to change it. A “I saw this happening, but I’m going to fight tooth and nail to prevent my dream from coming true and prove the future is not set in stone” type of thing and then the tragedy of maybe it cannot be changed, after all.  

Blood & Cheese is one of (if not THE) worst moments of the entire Dance and it’s a moment that was supposed to really make the viewers ask themselves “what is the cost of the Iron Throne?” And the heartbreak of Helaena, after realizing Blood & Cheese will not kill her instead in exchange for her sons’ lives, having to choose between her children and then having to live with that choice. This was supposed to be a Catelyn Stark at the Red Wedding moment, but instead more people are talking about Alicole or the dog being kicked than a child being murdered. Phia’s performance was great though.

All of the actors are phenomenal, and I was super excited to see everyone again. We are so fucking back! (This was way longer than I thought it would be. Anon I’m sorry if you didn’t intend for me to write so much! Haha)

I'm working backwards because it's late and I think I need more energy to get 235 out so I'm going to jump on this one, first lol I hope you guys don't mind! I'd like to get 235 out tomorrow before the ep goes out for those who like to come and check after the free post drops lol also I just REALLY want to catch up on these because I like having all my thoughts in one place and I didn't manage to hit up reddit for 236 last week - I was sick and I could not pull myself together for it ;~; So I'm flying by the seat of my pants! Also I just really want to get this one up before tomorrow, too, because I want to put down my thoughts/predictions/wants and see what actually comes out of it LMAO

KOUSUKE KNOWS KOUSUKE KNOWS KOUSUKE KNOWS KOUSUKE KNOWS!

Kousuke's arc continues to blow me away because I was SO certain we wouldn't get a lot of this until much, much later, in season 2 or something, so having this established before we move into our timeskip feels INSANE but it also makes me feel insane wondering where it's going to leave him, what it's going to do to him to learn this, reeling from this truth.

It's hard enough to digest that you've been roofied, much less IN A HOSPITAL by your own mother. That it was a dosage of benzos and oxy HIGH ENOUGH that it would knock a man out (AND DID as evidenced by the poor man who received Kousuke's leftover breakfast) and that it demonstrates how high his tolerance must be that he merely felt hung over.

That he was already wary of the medication Yui tried to give him at the restaurant was insane. That he was already wary of her even though he couldn't understand quite why. That he knew, definitively, something is so wrong with him he didn't care that Hansuke stole his blood vials and tested against Yui's wishes showed just how uncomfortable he is. But his response to the lack of answer!!!! To test him again! Blood AND urine! GOD I was screaming over THAT alone!

Also I have to say it but Kousuke in his Santa hat is so cute. I know I'm patronizing him, I know it's infantilization because he looks so uncertain and so very unlike himself with his discomfort and worry and unease that it makes him look so small and childlike but what can ya do? I like it when we get to see the haughty, confident characters knocked down a few pegs. Or a whole ladder lmao

Also also REALLY living for the Hansuke, Kousuke, Yujing dynamic. It is FUN! It is GOOD, it's what Kousuke needs lmao though I worry that Yui will do everything she can to box out Hansuke, depending on how Kousuke uses what he knows. But for now I'm going to enjoy it. There was something SO FUNNY about Yujing calling Hansuke "babe" and Kou's head popping out from between their seats going "BABE?!" ALKJFKAJFKJAFJKAFKJ SIR PLS CALM YOURSELF!!!!!

But MAN he's getting to THE realization. He's connecting the dots that Hansuke, bless his heart, is unwilling to connect, despite the very good points Yujing is bringing up. Being someone's mom does not mean you are going to make good choices for your child. We've seen fandom run with this thought before, too - that Yui can't possibly be manipulating Kousuke, that she just has alternative parenting. Hansuke, too, falls for the image, for the idea that a mother only wants what's best, that she has his best interests in mind. But like Yujing pointed out - it's so very clear that Kousuke is NOT okay, so why did they clear him? Why did she order him not to run the tests? Any doctor can see Kousuke shouldn't have been released, but a doctor in the hospital run by their FAMILY....?

Kousuke may not be voicing it yet but he knows. GOD, he knows. And the most interesting part is that when he's falling back into that spiral, when he's going back into that unresponsive state, not paying attention to what's going on, he sees Nol's bloodied phone - Nol's phone covered in the bloodshed caused by KOUSUKE'S doing - he uses THAT to anchor himself to the present. He picks up the phone and remembers holding Nol. I've been wondering how much he remembers about that, because he was SO RESOLUTE that Nol didn't harm him, that HE was the one who was hurt, that something was wrong. For that memory to resurface and be what grounds him when the realization that his own mother has drugged him with a lethal combination of drugs that should have done far more than made him feel like he has a hangover.... GOD.

Where does he go with this? He has to start suspecting, right? Because for him to have that tolerance, the obvious conclusion to jump to is that this is not the first time. The times that sweets did the trick and made him feel better - and the time he made them himself and they didn't. The times tea comforted him after particularly stressful experiences - and the brother who has such a strong aversion to it. Will he recall any of the conversation between Rand and Yui when he was passed out? I think, perhaps over the course of some time, we're going to watch that paranoia and fear grow. All this time he feared Nol, he worried about Nol - but Yui was the one to fear, right under his nose, orchestrating everything so that he would be left dependent on her.

UGH.

He knows he can't trust her, but who can he trust? The chef who prepares food for him that always does the trick? The thing about Yui is that Kousuke knows she has people everywhere, and that's the very horrifying thing about his situation. How many pockets is she lining? How many people does she have at her beck and call, to administer whatever she needs of them? Who do you trust when the one person you've relied on - because his own father is so absent and unavailable, also boxed out by his mother - is the very person who you can't trust, who has taken advantage of you?

And where will Meg and Rand's gift come into this? Before, Kousuke jumped on Meg as the only likely option he could think of - Meg who stalked and harrassed him, Meg who brought him the only food/drink outside of the parties. Meg who he acknowledged wasn't like that. It's not the first time Meg would have brought him something that he didn't want to be true - first telling him that Shinae had been drugged. Would he ignore this, too, a gift she says she found in the trash? A gift clearly from his father, disposed of by who else but his mother? Surely those are dots he could connect. And again, what do you DO with that? With the knowledge that she's drugging you, that she replaced the gifts with something so tacky and lacking of familiarity with who he is, especially compared to the actual gift that was thrown out. Will it make him wonder what else Yui has disposed of, traded in, how many other times he'll recall his father admitting that he didn't know this event was on this date that she didn't tell him?

There are SO MANY fissure cracks forming under Kousuke's feet and at the end of the day HOW is he supposed to deal with it, when you can't trust your mom, the people she hires, maybe your family? When you realize that she's been drugging you, that she's been driving that wedge between yourself and your father, that she's ensured you are dependent and reliant upon her, that she has access to all aspects of his life there is nowhere he can evade her he has nowhere to escape to.

GOD IT'S ALL JUST SO INSAAAAAAAAAAANE!!!!!

I still can't get over him using Nol's phone - the concept of NOL - to anchor himself, to ground him as he's reeling from a horrifying realization too big to digest, too overwhelming to handle. It's Nol who he tethers himself to, Nol he uses as a distraction, to pull himself out of these thoughts.

THE TRAGEDY OF THESE BROTHERS WILL NEVER CEASE TO GET TO MEEEEEEEEEEE I'M HOWLING

And then on the flip side we know aaaahhhhhh the long-awaited Dieter and Nol talk is COMING. I just knew it, when Dieter said he'd just go back home and they'll go visit Nol together tomorrow that he was lying and he absolutely was going to see Nol on his own, duh, we all saw that coming but I AM STILL LOOKING FORWARD TO IT! But I'd like to actually acknowledge WHY I am and what I look forward to, since it's not solely about the romance at play.

What Dieter saw when Shinae and Nol thought he was asleep wasn't just that his fears, the things he suspected, had been right all along. It wasn't just that he saw the girl he likes and his best friend flirting. It was all the things he realized he didn't know.

Dieter already made a comment about it - that they didn't realize how bad things were between the brothers and "some friends we are". Because on some level, Dieter has acknowledged it's true - there were so many things about Yeonggi worth questioning that they just didn't, whether it was because Nol isn't forthcoming about the answers, or because he was afraid of pushing him away. We even saw Shinae play with this concept, when she wanted to press him about his family but stopped herself because she was worried he'd run away again. That moment when Nol and Shinae's dance ends, when they have that little spat, was not Yeonggi. It was someone Dieter had never really met, because out of their group, Dieter is the one who knows the least about Nol. About his life, about his relationships. He only knows Yeonggi.

Think about this. Dieter sees Nol on tv, pleading guilty to something he didn't even KNOW about, with a name he didn't know, finding out he's the illegitimate son of Rand. That Yui isn't his mom! Nol blocks all of them, won't take their calls, won't receive them at their home. He finds Shinae in the rain crying, watches as she falls apart in his bed. Nol tells them not to contact him again and basically that he's peacing out.

And then suddenly there he is at Minhyuk's party. He didn't even arrive through the front door!

And there he is, bleeding out on the snow!

Dieter knows NOTHING. Not why Nol left. Not why he came back. Not why he hides himself from them. Not why he pushes away Shinae like he does the rest of them. Not why he cares so much about them but won't let himself have them.

Of course Dieter is hurt. His friend is a lie. His BEST friend, the first friend he made in Korea, the friend who has done everything to be a good friend to him. The friend who tried to play Cupid for him and the girl he likes. He's a LIE what about him is real? He doesn't know him! And not only that but he doesn't TELL him anything.

Dieter has no way to know that Nol has only just realized his feelings for Shiane. In fact, Dieter has been watching those feelings develop between Nol and Shinae for a while, taking note of that chemistry, the ways they veer towards each other, the different relationship that they have. And what hurts is probably not that they like the same girl (or rather, not only that, because I'm sure that hurts) but that Nol couldn't TELL him that. That he couldn't say Hey man I think we gotta talk about this I gotta get something off my chest.

Dieter probably feels like Nol can't trust him. Or maybe he feels like Nol thought so little of his feelings. Maybe he thinks he could have just hid it forever and then left and it wouldn't matter, like Dieter wouldn't have been left picking up the pieces of Shinae, yearning for a girl yearning for someone else.

It's that Nol didn't tell him anything. Nothing about his family, or who he is, or what was happening in his life. Did Dieter know that Nol was going to trial? I'm sure he had NO idea. Does Dieter even know what happened that night? That they were at the formal together? That Shinae got hurt? I don't think he does! There's SO MUCH he doesn't know.

But also.... he doesn't ask. I think he's afraid of scaring Nol off, of pushing him away, but he also knows that that makes him a bad friend, too. Nol put everyone's needs first all the time, deflects when it comes to himself and they let him. They took him at his word, even when they know better.

I want Dieter to call Nol out.

"Aren't we friends? Why can't you tell me things? Why do you keep pushing us away? Do we mean that little to you?"

And I want him to acknowledge that he, too, should have reached out more.

"I'm sorry I didn't pry more. I'm sorry I was so complacent. I'm sorry for being afraid of scaring you off by caring too much."

It's about SO MUCH MORE than just that they like the same girl. That may be an elephant in the room, but it's more about the way they've been friends. Obviously Dieter cares about Nol, but Dieter is also resigned to people walking away, to people leaving. He's so used to moving around and losing touch that perhaps he felt this was all only natural. I want him to fight for his friendship just like Shinae! I want him to call out Nol on boxing them out! We're friends so let us be there for you! We're friends so lean on us! We're friends so please share yourself with us!

Can you be okay if he left, Dieter, and just became yet another former friend?

But also yes I do want him to call out Nol on how he's treating Shinae. That yeah, he's treating them all pretty awfully considering how much they love each other, but he knows what he saw and "if you're pushing her away for my sake, don't. I'm not a little child, I can handle it." I want him to remind Nol that these are not his decisions alone to make, that yEAH it impacts Shinae. What good is it if they like each other but "sorry Dieter likes you so I'm going to push my feelings away we can't do this" because if she doesn't like Dieter - and she doesn't - what does it matter? And would Dieter want to be the one standing in their way? Please. Something that I must remind people again is that Dieter knew what he was doing. He knew Shinae doesn't like him like that. He knew that she and Nol have something he doesn't. He was still hopeful, he still tried - and good for him, I'm glad he did! He gave it his best and it didn't work out but at least he can't regret not trying. He hoped that maybe, over time, what exists with Nol and Shinae could develop between them but it's clear to him now that's not how it works.

I swear this took me least two hours to actually watch fully from start/stopping for quotes and going back for context and then I had to pause for a few minutes while I made dinner. 5x05 takeaways

- pls give seven actual character-focused moments in the latter half of s3 🙏 she should be doing more than relaying communications like a background character. I do have a feeling she’s going to get some good stuff in the next few episodes but it has been a bit annoying to watch her have fairly little to do in the past couple eps

- i’m not a big TNG fan and barely know ro laren (did not make it than far in the series yet) but i will say michelle forbes is quite hot and has a lovely voice. good for her. RIP

- gangster vulcan was NOT convincing. took me out. not sure what they were going for there but it felt like someone cosplaying

- every episode i care less and less about picard’s son... it’s less about him as a character and more about what i see them doing with the ~you could join starfleet~ setting up a whole spinoff about him. no. only acceptable if the spinoff is with seven as captain and he’s her CMO or some other position. 

- continuing to LOVE the raffi and worf duo, would have enjoyed their scenes more if it hadn’t been for the weird vulcan crime syndicate thing. 

- so many mentions of janeway making me all the more sad that she won’t actually make an appearance :’)

Ep 1 (Nov 28/29)

So Kevin is a ghost story teller on like IG and I know from spoilers that the family is actually dead and ghosts but seems like the audience and Kevin doesn’t know yet. I guess the daughter is like apathetic towards everything because of it while the rest of the family tries to appear normal for Kevin.

She seems the most bitter about being dead but playing alive, so I hope they dive into her character later (is she the one that’s part of the small side gl?)

as expected, Aunt’s family and Pluem’s father passed away from the same accident

omg Pluem trying to summon his father with the candles and mirror, then being upset and demanding at the shrine is so good. the ending with the car in the lake, though I don’t think it’s his dad’s gray truck. Pluem being mad and upset that the Aunt’s family are the ones who killed his dad (or so he thinks, I’m expected some other explanation) but also being mad that they could come back to see Kevin while his father isn’t back, meaning perhaps he wasn’t thinking of Pluem and his sister in the end. 

Okay, as a lover of formalities and honorifics and titles, I also liked them being deliberate and specific on what to use (this type of thing shows up with younger semes sometimes like in Lovely Writer or LeonPob Don’t Say No, although this case isn’t the same as those; we also got it in terms of formality when it came to Sangwoo going from sunbae to hyung). Them choosing ‘I’ and ‘you’ pronouns instead of “Phi” and “name” oof it incorporates Kevin’s background as well.

I’m nervous to continue on though ngl because people were iffy about 1) apparently a stupid breakup, 2) side GL being short and sad and 3) the logic or reasoning for things being meh. I’m not certain about any of these because I’ve remained mostly spoiler-free but oof

Behind the scenes l EP4 Watched the behind for this ep and it’s so cute! Boy and Tod are endearing and funny together and by themselves and there’s not really any awkwardness between them. 

Fave episode, really fucking good.

Ep 5 (Dec 1/2)

So Pluem’s father and Aunt Jeab’s family both passed away a month before the start of the show

Dang, Pluem and Kevin’s breakup(?) scene was sad, Pluem grieving his father and also bitter that the people he thinks killed his father are back but his dad isn’t while Kevin also lost his family and he also has someone (Jack) he wishes he could see as a ghost. Pluem not considering how Kevin is going through similar things vs Kevin saying things that just sound unkind even though he doesn’t mean them that way rip Neither of them is really wrong (though I admire Kevin’s resiliency in trying to keep the relationship and it’s one of the times in BL where I don’t get grossed out by ‘refusal to breakup’ because it wasn’t even that really) -  (Fave scene but in a way of the writing choices, not for cute or giddiness)

Damn, mans has been taking care of Kevin this whole time and has seen him fall in love and give up a chance to see him to Pluem and it’s really his time to go.

damn, this ep is just sad event after sad event but I quite enjoyed it. 

love to see Pluem lash out and be unreasonable in his grief tbh. Does it make sense to break up with and ignore Kevin because Kevin's family came back as ghosts from the same car crash that his dad died and didn't reappear in? No because Kevin had nothing to do with it but I liked that it was overwhelming and upsetting and caused him to lash out at Kevin and his sister. I do want Pluem to sincerely apologize next ep though. I wonder if this was the stupid/avoidable break up someone mentioned because then I’m fine with that, I understood why it happened

About Jake, I was like hmm I slightly suspected that the ghost in Kevin's room is Jake but the reveal and disappearing is done in such a short time that it doesn't hit as hard but I'm fine with it since it's like the first taste of a disappearing ghost (agh I guess See-nam gonna disappear next ep? TT) and the general story of Jake was sad enough even though we didn't delve super deep into it

Ep 6 (Dec 3)

Linguistics: wait okay from what i noticed/read in notes of a post, in ep 5 Kevin was still using I/you pronouns but Pluem stopped and used gu/meung with him once or twice instead. So now, Pluem used ter again (they used rao/ter before the I/you decision) and Kevin was like “Don’t you speak rudely to me like you did?” using meung

At least Pluem apologized (and even tried doing it in English for Kevin)

Aww, See-nam and her dad apologizing to each other in general and father-daughter bonding 

Having them use I/you pronouns is good for realizing how differently this is used in Thai vs English. Like I’ve heard them say “Khun/Ter/Meung” in lieu of a name many times but saying “You” makes it concretely settle in my head that, in these case, they use these pronouns in a way that we would use a name in English.

Idek how I feel about the last 1.5 eps because in terms of writing, I have some qualms but like Kevin and Pluem are so cute that I can’t even think critically. 

Biggest Pulls for this show:

- Pluem and Kevin, bro they were soooooo fucking cute just unbelievable I was cheesing throughout so many of their interactions. they really felt like people who liked each other and also just bounced off each other so well. They had great off-camera chemistry as well.

- The linguistics, specifically usage of first and second person pronouns for Kevin and Pluem. I love the deliberate choice of using you/I so much and they use it throughout except !! Pluem used ‘meung’ when he got angry at the roof in ep 5 and was very rude and, in the next ep, when he used ‘ter’ during his apology, Kevin pointed it out and was like oh? you’re not speaking rudely to me anymore?

- The ghost stuff was intriguing and I’m glad they didn’t somehow make them come back or anything. I wish we got some more background in terms of how things actually worked and some more lore building but I’m still generally okay with the way it went, combining the comedy and sadness

- I wish we had more of the GL rip

All in all, despite not liking certain choices or wishing for more in other aspects, I enjoyed watching it and am so glad to have watched Pluem and Kevin, they were adorable.

As a lawyer I need ur review of she hulk pls 🎤

My area of law couldn’t be further from hers, and pretty sure I forgot everything about civ pro once I took the bar and went travelling/drinking for a month to recover. So cannot comment on the accuracy of the court/mediation scenes (because I’m sure that’s what you were dying to hear about).

But the JOY I experienced seeing how much she wanted to continue fighting the good fight through law! That whole convo with Matt about Jen using the law to help people when society fails, and then She-Hulk can help people when the law fails????? I want that scene tattooed on the inside of my eyelids. Perfectly encapsulated why I loved her so much. The justice system is flawed, and no one knows that better than lawyers. But there’s still good that can be done—during my first few months as a lawyer (well, law clerk because I was waiting on bar results, but we’ll ignore that), I worked on an asylum case, and when our client was granted asylum? Highlight of my career, even now. But I also worked on a death penalty appeal where our client had truly horrendous representation at trial (his lawyer was deemed unfit to practice law), but none of that could be argued to overturn his sentence because of a missed deadline (by a day). So having a way to right the wrongs that can’t be fixed through the law, or that the law/justice system actually CAUSES? The dream for lawyers who give a damn about society.

(Honestly I need to do a rewatch, because I’m sure there’s more I could say about commentary on being a woman in law (particularly biglaw), but I was just Having Fun and enjoying the vibes, so I’d need to watch with a more critical eye. That said, I felt seen when she was arguing she had a conflict of interest in ep 8 and her boss said “your client’s fine with it, your feelings are irrelevant, end of convo.” The clients I’ve had to represent or pitch to whom I find absolutely abhorrent. 🙃🙃🙃 )

Weekly TV Roundup

A lot of shows ending this week with some hits and misses but a lot of enjoyment from me

🍒Cherry Magic Anime (Ep 10-12)(end): it’s over 😭 it was a good ending…I’m glad they kept the scene where Adachi decides to lose his virginity similar to the manga because I love love that scene just Adachi finally describing what he likes about Kurosawa to him ahhhh…I also think this was my favourite version of Tsuge/Minato hehe…OG Fujisaki will have my heart though

🥟She Loves To Cook, She Loves To Eat (Ep 27-30)(end): I am so sad I'm done all the episodes but the ending was done so beautifully and just like watching their relationship grow and all the other people in their lives growing as well, and their friendships it was just too much like what an amazing show...and listen they can make another season, there's so much more to explore. This second season was truly so good :)

🎬At 25:00 in Akasaka (Ep 10)(end): Bahhhh nooo it's overrrr. I'm so sad, Thursdays have been so excellent the past few weeks but that's ok. It ended really perfectly like what I wanted was a happy ending and a little taste of them being happy as boyfriends and Hayama smiling and I GOT IT! Ugh idk this show was just so great from start to finish in my opinion, and explored everything super well. To answer the question I asked myself at the start of the show, yes I probably would watch the BL that theyre filming in the show, I would eat it up. I would be talking about how great the chemistry was on Tumblr.com

🏡Knock Knock Boys (Ep 5): This was another solid episode, Latte continues to get better I swear. Also the addition of Jane I think is fun…especially since it’s not really like the jealous ex girlfriend trope…like her and Peak just seem like an arranged marriage or smthing…I’m intrigued what they mean by they need to take responsibility? Also yes Jumper already having a boyfriend so real I knew it was coming….but also I’m wondering if Almond really took the video or if it’s a fakeout. I kinda hope he did and then he goes on an arc realizing how wrong he was and apologizing to Jumper. Also I like how while Almond is inexperienced he’s not like a blushing virgin like he’s exploring his sexuality himself it’s nice to see

🦋My Marvellous Dream is You (Ep 7): ok okkk…we are still on the slow burn train. But this show is exploring a lot more than the romance. This episode we really got more of Wans thoughts and struggles. I love the moments with Mon and Mali they really lighten the mood a lil…omg tho that proposal/asking Kim out was toooo much like pls my guy you need to chill out…and Kim is just going with it it’s gonna get so messy

✨We Are (Ep 12): This last arc of episodes has got me officially I’m loving this show and the dynamics like them finally starting to get together and each couple is on a different phase of their relationship and each one is exploring their relationship in a different way 😭 also tho I’m laughing like now this friend group is just gonna be 4 couples and 3 dudes vibing (to be fair my friend group is sort of like this). My fave moment of this episode (among many) was at the beginning when Phum says he likes him and their doing their back and forth and the friends are just going « ooooohhh » and « ahhhh » in the background. Because tell me why if I was in this exact situation I would be doing the exact same thing lmao

🌊Love Sea (Ep 3): ok so I wasn’t expecting to get emotional watching this show but that ending was truly…really good…I’m liking the backstory we’re getting and them opening up…I’m intrigued to see what happens when they go back to Bangkok. listen I love a good sapphic fake dating plot and Vi is kinda iconic but like both people need to agree to it it can’t just be forced on another person…but I’m hoping they’ll be cute later on like I see the vision

💍Wedding Plan (Ep 3-7)(end): ok I binged I couldn’t help it I got so invested in this show and had some extra time and it just happened! I really loved this show, a few moments of being bored but tbh the core story was so nice. Like the friendship between Sailom and Yiwa was so great. And like it was sort of frustrating to see Nuea hurt and confused but like I understand why it was like that…everything was just really good and I thought the chemistry was there…Sailom my beloved. Him and Yiwa really got me and like at the end the four of them vidéo calling was so sweet their lil family😭 I also liked the arc with Nueas family I thought it was sweet…idk listen this was just wayyy better than I thought it would be and didn’t really feel like a MAME show…I love how more and more shows have a GL couple and a BL couple because idk it just feels more balanced? Anyways loved it had a good time but def had a different feeling to all MAMEs other shows

🥘What Did You Eat Yesterday? (S2 Ep 1-2): my faves back again S2 let’s go. So far we got just dealing with change and growing older…also the amount of misunderstandings or perceptions Shiro has about him at work just because he cannot be open :(…but at the same time everyone agreeing he wouldn’t go to a hostess club because he’s too boring kills me. I’m glad I’m spacing this show out because I never want it to end!

💟 Wandee Goodday (Ep 8): alright, we got a really cute marriage proposal (like best scene let’s be for real) and some scenes were really cute but I’m not feeling as invested in this show as I was at the beginning but I’m going to continue it to see how it progresses…Yak remains my fave

🧍‍♂️My Stand In (Ep 9): Alright well, this episode was wild. Half of it was joes funeral and just pain and it really got me in my feels…..also I’m ready for the next arc to see how Ming tries redeem himself (I’m sure the way he will do it will be toxic but oh well). At the end of the day, Joe cannot stay away from this man even when he tries but I’m glad he stood up for himself a little more this episode. Also Sol is a whole other thing I don’t even know what to do with all that

👩‍❤️‍����‍👩Two Of Us (Ep 4): Ah yes, 15 minutes of two women being in love and being cutesy and not being able to keep their hands off each other. What a great time, 10/10 no notes. Every week I become more ready to watch these two be more in love in a full length series. It's hitting all the GL tropes too: taking a bath together next episode, putting lipstick or chapstick on only to kiss the other person with it <3.

🌅Sunset X Vibes (Ep 2): I'm letting this one marinate a bit because I am liking the down bad CEO vibe they got going on and there were lots of moments I liked but I am still not fully sure where theyre going with this....

Other shows

📝Bridgerton (Ep 5-8)(end): Me and my roommate binged the second half together…and honestly I was a lil disappointed. Like I liked some of the side plots but some of them like the whole Benedict side plot felt sort of random? Like I think they could have used the screen time on the main couple? Like they had the big romance confession moment in part 1 but didn’t carry that energy into part 2. Also I feel like they sort of wanted Cressidas character…like her and Eloise’s friendship was a big running thing the whole season and it just sort of ends with « well that was a mistake? » idk just felt weird. Maybe next season they’ll also gender swap Benedict’s love interest and it’ll be a fully gay season lol (with Francesca)

👽 3 Body Problem (Ep 7): Ok almost at the end of season 1. First of all, it makes so much sense to me that the San-Ti would recruit another human to have someone on the inside, and have that person be Tatiana because if there's anyone you want on your side, it's her. I think Ye Wenjie's arc and her story this episode was well done, and Will and Saul's friendship is also a highlight in this show for me. I guess next week they'll try and launch the probe, and we'll see if it works? I'm just mentally preparing myself for a cliff hanger tbh. One thing is I'm still sort of lost on the Vera storyline? Like they planted the chip in her head, because she found out about the San-Ti? Or she committed suicide on her own, without the interference?

🪶Little Bird (Ep 6)(end): What a bittersweet ending. I think having all of the family coming together and just showing the importance of family and community really reinforces just how much was taken from everyone in this story. I also think it makes sense how the only person who seems to understand and empathize with the situation is Esther's mom, Golda, who also lost family members and has felt her family torn apart, in a different way. The ending too with the mom returning was just so heartbreaking. I think it made sense to end it there because the reconnection of her with the children would be a whole other show. Everyone should watch this, especially Canadians.

🏫Degrassi (Ep 84-92): We have made it to teen pregnancy #2 on this show and it was a lil unexpected, also learnt that Christians can like watching UFC so thanks for the education Degrassi. A good string of intense episodes but show is just wild but good?
