Coriolanus has never been the easiest person to understand. His mind was always racing and it kept you on your toes. Even now as he fretted over his appearance in the mirror you could tell his mind was thinking of a million things beyond whether or not his tie fit him correctly.
"For what it's worth, I think you look perfect." You say, sipping at your drink, you had been ready for nearly twenty minutes while Coriolanus was still figuring out what tie matched his pants best.
"I'm sure you do but this isn't just any party, I'm campaigning tonight and everything must be perfect." He says adjusting his hair even though it already sat perfectly styled atop his head.
It was Coriolanus' 23rd birthday and instead of celebrating like you usually did, you were both spending it at a party full of people who might help him reach the presidency by the beginning of next year. You approach him and wrap your arms around him, resting your chin on his shoulder.
"It will be." You assure, pressing a kiss to his exposed neck where his makeup artist did a wonderful job at covering the marks you had left behind last night.
"If all goes well tonight, you might just become the first lady of Panem one day." He smiles at you through the mirror
"Does that mean we're getting married?" You laugh, trying to ignore the way your heart skipped a beat at the idea of being with him forever
"Maybe..." Coriolanus says suddenly avoiding your eyes as his face reddens under your gaze.
You giggle at your boyfriend's flustered face, despite how grown up he had become in the past few years he was still the same boy you met at the academy all those years ago who just wanted his own bowl of fruit to gobble down.
"You definitely wanna marry me, Coryo!" You say almost as if you had discovered a secret of his.
"Well if you're not interested I can always find another." He jests, finally tying his tie.
"Oh please, I'm the only one who could ever tolerate you." You smile as he spins around to face you and rests his hands on your hips
"That you are, darling, that you are." He smiles and presses a chaste kiss to your lips
Coriolanus is sure you are his favorite person in the entire world. From the way you'd laugh at his jokes to the way your nose whistled when you slept, he loved it all. Even now as the two of you had long abandoned your teenage years and stepped into adulthood, he knew he didn't want to lose you. His interactions with Lucy Gray and his time in District 12 had only solidified how he wanted you to stay close to him. He watches as you cross the room to slip into a pair of pretty high heels, he loved the way your dress sat on your body, it was perfectly fitted and he wondered what designer had been able to craft it so perfectly.
He looked back at the mirror and pretended to fiddle with his outfit again even though he knew he looked perfect. Instead, his eyes cast to the small table next to the mirror where a collection of photos sat you and him over the past five years. His favorite though was the one that was taken at your 17th birthday party. He remembered how warm it had been, and at one point someone had filled a bucket of water and tossed at you. He had expected you to cry out and push everyone out of your home but instead, he was met with your laughter and thus a water fight had begun. The picture of the two of you had been taken not even twenty minutes later, both of you were drenched but happy and you had linked your arms together right before the picture was taken. Sometimes he wished to go back to those moments, to relieve the last bits of his boyhood even though it meant going back to that decrepit building he once lived in and the taste of cabbage a constant on his tongue.
"Thinking about the past?" You ask from across the room.
"Thinking about how ugly we look here." He says picking up the photo
"Nonsense, we're adorable in that. If I remember correctly that was taken a few weeks before you tripped me in my room trying to slow dance and then you gave me the kiss of a lifetime." You smile
"I didn't trip you, you tripped me with your bad dancing." He laughed, returning the photo to its proper place among the others.
"Whatever you say, Coryo." You smiled, he could tell you didn't believe one word that came from his mouth about the tripping incident.
These parties were always a bit tedious for you. You enjoyed seeing Coriolanus happy among Capitol elites and you loved the lavish dresses you got to wear but sometimes it became overwhelming. The sheer amount of reporters that were always at these things is what drove you crazy. Coriolanus ate the attention up and answered all their questions about how he'd change Panem for the better but you were usually left answering questions about what your dress was made of or what your relationship was with Coriolanus. He often assured you that once he won the presidency he'd have more control over what was asked and that you'd never have to answer another dress question again. You hoped he won as soon as possible, it was tiring pretending this line of questioning was interesting.
"Is that real gold on your sleeves?"
"Is that ring on your finger an engagement ring?"
"Who did your hair for the evening?"
"Are you going to have the future president's children?"
"Did you seduce Coriolanus Snow for power in the Capitol?"
"How many toes do you have?"
God you wished they'd all shut up, or at least get better questions. Even just something as small as your involvement with your father's company would've been better than this. You ignored whatever trash was coming from their mouths and held on to Coriolanus' arm like he was going to disappear and end up back in District 12 again.
You remembered that day very well, after Coriolanus' tribute had won he had just disappeared despite promising to walk you home after the games had ended. When he didn't show up for graduation either, you found yourself outside Tigris and Grandma'am's new residence looking for answers. Tigris had told you what happened with him and that girl, Lucy Gray, how he cheated with rat poison and a handkerchief of his father's. At first, you had been distraught that he was sent off to District 12, stuck there for twenty years as some peacekeeping grunt, you'd be an ugly middle-aged woman by the time he got back! You had been in the pits of despair about your relationship with him but all it took was one terrifying meeting with Dr. Gaul to change your attitude. Once she revealed that Coriolanus would be back in the Capitol soon, and she was simply testing his dedication to the games, you relaxed. While Dr. Gaul might not have all her marbles you knew she wasn't lying, and sure enough, your Coriolanus returned to you in a matter of weeks.
However, he returned to you differently though. Sure, his head was shaved like all Peacekeepers and the curls you loved to play with were gone, but his attitude had also changed. Perhaps it was that Songbird he never wanted to speak of even now. You could never quite place what happened between Coriolanus and her, all that mattered to you was that he had assured you it wasn't romantic. Just shared ambitions to both win something. In her case her life and in his the Plinth Prize, not that that went well for her since she had disappeared shortly after she went home. You weren't quite sure what to make of Lucy Gray, the mysterious Songbird who had enchanted all of Panem just five years ago. You had only spoken to her once and it was just to compliment her singing during her interview. She hadn't exactly impressed you with her in that moment but she must have impressed Coriolanus at some point if he was willing to break rules for her.
Or perhaps his change was due to whatever training Peacekeepers went through and the death of Sejanus that had rocked the entire Capitol when he was revealed as a traitor, you knew Coriolanus had been close to him. Of course, despite all his changes and attitude adjustments, he never applied them to you. So, here you stayed by his side, happy that he still loved you the same. Soft touches and sweet words remained constant as the two of you aged and explored the advantages of adulthood. One of your favorite things about being 23 was moving out of your family's home and into the penthouse Coriolanus had chosen for the two of you. Waking up next to Coriolanus each day and seeing how he looked before his eyes fluttered open had to be your favorite part of the days you spent together. Brushing his hair from his eyes and counting the freckles that just barely brushed his pale skin was something you did daily until his pretty blue eyes met yours again. Once he did wake though, it was hard to get him to stay in bed with you. His peaceful state was always replaced with a man who was always working towards something, ambition was always fueling him.
You didn't mind his rough exterior that emerged each morning though, Coriolanus was cold and hard on everyone but you. Perhaps it was your shared childhood memories and teenage romance that prevented him from treating you coldly like he did poor Tigris but you weren't sure. One thing you did know was that the boy you grew up with was gone and a man stood in his place, brooding and cold to everyone but you.
"I'm going to get us a drink and then if you want we can dance." He whispered in your ear
"Can you get me that fizzy lemon drink they usually serve?" You ask
"Of course, I'll bring you some of those hors d'oeuvres you like with the cheese as well."
And then, he was gone from your side moving expertly through the crowd. That dazzling blonde hair accompanied by the broadest shoulders you've ever seen on a man disappeared among the throngs of people craning their necks to get a better look at the future president and his pretty face.
"A true marvel isn't he?" a voice to your right said
You turned to be met by none other than Lucky Flickerman, a drink in one hand and a young child's hand grasped in the other.
"I'm not interested in doing an interview, Lucky. If you want information on Coryo you can ask him yourself." You say, ready to walk away from the Capitol's favorite news anchor turned Hunger Games host.
"Coryo...what an interesting nickname, a bit childish for a man who might watch over us all soon. No matter, I would however absolutely love to report on you one day and maybe even that big business you're the heiress of, but I'm actually talking to you for this little one tonight." Lucky smiles motioning to the boy who you guessed was his son. "He was admiring that stunning dress of yours and I thought he might want to see it up close and personal."
For once you didn't mind being asked about your clothes as you crouched down to the little boy's height, he couldn't be more than 5 or 6.
"You have a good eye, would you like to feel the fabric? The designer I met with made it wonderfully soft." You smile, thinking of how Tigris had gushed over the blood-red fabric that would perfectly match Coriolanus' suit with you just weeks ago.
The boy reaches his hand out and brushes it along expensive fabric and a smile grows on his face.
"What's your name?" You ask
"Caesar." He says "I just turned 6 last week."
"Well, Caesar, six is a marvelous age to be, you can do all sorts of things at six. In fact, when I turned six I learned to ride a bicycle for the first time, I did however scrape my knees half a million times. I even still have a few scars on my knees would you like to see them?." You smile at him and he nods.
"Lucky Flickerman, I thought I told your producers that you weren't allowed to bother her with your idiotic questions the way the other reporters do. You clearly don't value your job, if you did you would have listened to my words." Coriolanus' voice suddenly fills your ears as you quickly right yourself, remembering how he once told you you'd have to start holding yourself with more decorum at these events. 'No more acting like a stupid teenager' had been his exact words one night when you were eating dinner together in your shared room.
"It's fine, his son wanted to say hello." You smile down at Caesar, take your lemon drink, and pop some of the food Coriolanus brought with him into your mouth. You sincerely hoped that you weren't about to witness Lucky being fired by the newest mastermind behind The Hunger Games and future the president.
From the corner of your eye, you see Coriolanus cast an intimidating look down at the boy and you resist the urge to elbow him in the ribs and force him to apologize to the poor child who was now cowering behind his father's stylish pant leg.
"I'll see you later, Lucky. We are going to go dancing now." Coriolanus says setting your barely sipped drink and food on a tray of a passing server before whisking you away.
"You're bad with children, Coryo." You say as he leads you towards the dance floor.
"And you're bad at reading people, darling." He says, ignoring the way you pouted at your loss of lemon drink and cheese-sprinkled food.
"What do you mean?" You ask, confused
"Lucky just wanted to get you to answer questions about me," Coriolanus says as he leads you in a dance, the both of you had gotten exceptionally better since your failure at 17 in your childhood bedroom.
"Oh." You say, a bit sad that he wasn't genuinely interested in you, just another dumb reporter who wanted news on Coriolanus' next move. It was amazing how Coriolanus always knew what others were thinking and how to approach a situation best.
"It's alright, just ignore him next time," Coriolanus says, gently squeezing your waist as a form of reassurance.
You nod and rest your head on his shoulder as you spin around the dance floor, suddenly wishing you were tangled up in bed with him rather than dancing in heels that were pinching your toes.
"Can I confess something to you?" Coriolanus whispers, his lips tickling your ear.
"Of course, always " You reply honestly
"I hate seeing you interacting with them." He says in a low voice.
"Them?" You ask
"These people. Seeing them ask you questions about your dress or hair, makes me want to toss them into the arena and watch one of Gaul's mutts rip them apart. I hate the way they look at you like you're a piece of meat attached to my side." He says, possessiveness lacing his tone.
"Oh...well I'm sure they don't all think that way." You try to reason, hoping that he wasn't right about this read on others.
"I doubt it. Look at that one by the fountain in the blue jacket." He says nodding to his right.
You glance over to the fountain and see an old man with a fluffy white beard and white hair to match. He seemed to be carefully watching you and Coriolanus spinning on the dancefloor but you weren't quite sure.
"I'm positive he's standing there imagining what it'd look like if this pretty dress was on the floor and you were on top of him," Coriolanus whispers, knowing it'll have you blushing in his arms.
"Coryo..." You say, trying to keep your composure as he presses his body to yours while you wonder if he's truly right and the old man across the pretty courtyard is truly ogling you.
"Too bad I'm the only one who will ever know what that looks like." He says a certain arrogance in his voice you can't quite place.
"Stop it." You scold, trying to hide the fact that your face is as red as your dress.
"Why? I can't wait to get back to our bedroom tonight and bring what's in my head to life." Coriolanus laughs, his voice was husky in your ears and making you weak in the knees.
"You're so embarrassing, Coryo." You say into his chest, avoiding that sharp gaze he had. How could someone act so well-composed but also have the dirty mind of a perverted teenage boy?
Coriolanus stops leading your dance and hooks a finger under your chin so you're looking up at him again. Sharp blue eyes that felt like they were staring into your soul looked at you, full of passion and want.
"My heart burns for you, darling, as it always has. You're mine, my perfect girl, all mine." He promises before swooping in to deliver what might qualify as the most monumental kiss in all of history.
A certain warmness spreads across your body as he kisses you in public for the first time. It's moments like this with your Coriolanus make your heart swell, these moments remind you that the little boy with the golden curls you met when you were just twelve lives on, just in a different way. You know the teenager you once ate cabbage soup and bread with sweet jam watches over you as you kiss his 23-year-old self, you know he's smiling at where the two of you are now. You're sure that the same boy who once spun you around your childhood bedroom to your favorite slow song is still here with you now, even if he rarely shows his face. Coriolanus Snow is always watching over you, every version of him envelopes you tonight as he shows the world who you are to him.
Your head spins and your lungs burn as you hear a few whoops and cheers from onlookers while others whisper about how Coriolanus' hands are wandering all over your body. You're sure the way he's kissing you is going to end up on some Capitol news reel tomorrow morning but you can't find the heart to care. Somewhere in his chest, you feel Coriolanus let out a deep groan when you run your hands through his hair ruining the way it was perfectly styled for the evening. You gasp when his teeth nip at your bottom lip and pull away, a gasp for air leaving your now surely swollen lips.
"All yours, Coryo." You assure him and lean in for another kiss.
You smile as he kisses back and couldn't care less about what the world around you thinks, you had your Coryo, the boy who you grew up with and ate cabbage together in his decrepit home, the same boy who danced with you despite his own lack of skill. You were with your Coriolanus, the man who was going to carry Panem into a new age of glory.
Part Three
Series Masterlist
Read the Teaser here
So I uh sorta ended up abandoning fluffy Coryo thoughts from part one and went with the reader's pov of him at 23, I hope that's okay with all of you. He still loves you though don't worry, it's just in his own Coryo way. His own magically manipulative Coryo way. I was initially going to make this part during the 10th Hunger Games but then I thought, wouldn't it be interesting to see how he interacts with reader post Lucy Gray considering how much she changes his ideals. To make things clear, every moment with Lucy Gray and Coryo has occurred and the reader is unaware of pretty much all of it here, obviously since she's so goo goo gah gah over him.
If you'd like more of my writings about Coryo and you, my fic Blank Space might be the read for you, it also has a part two that is available now You can read them both here. (Yes it's based on the Taylor Swift song)

In defense of a "Wicked Stepmother":
Tumblr media
Sarah's Stepmother in "Labyrinth", named Irene in tie-in media, only gets about a minute of screen time before Sarah rushes off to her room in a soaked snit. Fanfic writers usually turn her into an evil bitch and even the manga sequel, "Return to Labyrinth", has her cold and abusive to Toby, her biological child. But here's the thing...
I think Sarah's mother gets a bum rap.
Tumblr media
Dressing nicely for an evening out and having mild conflict with a teenager does not a Lady Tremaine make. And as someone who actually lived with a narcissistic, manipulative, emotionally abusive stepfather, I can tell you that Irene doesn't even come close to wicked step parent territory.
Backstory first. It's never spoken of in the film, but clues in Sarah's room tell us that her real mother is a stage actress who abandoned her and her father for another actor. Sarah idolizes her mother and tries to emulate her with play acting. Sarah's father met and married Irene sometime after Linda ran off, and Sarah, who thinks her mom walks on water, resents the hell out of Irene for taking her place. A place that Linda abandoned for another man.
Tumblr media
She couldn't help it. He looked like David Bowie.
Tumblr media
Let's look at her first alledged transgression. She won't let Merlin into the house. Instead she orders him into the garage. Heartless, we assume because we all love dogs and only the most soulless of monsters don't. But slow down. She didn't leave him out in the rain. She put him in the garage. Furthermore, Merlin is an Old English Sheepdog. Is he a nice dog? Sure, but he's also a breed that's notorious for being high maintenance and hard to keep clean and right now he's soaking wet and filthy. Irene isn't being cruel, she's trying to keep him from ruining the carpet.
Tumblr media
So now Sarah and Irene are in the house about to have their confrontation. "Sarah, you're an hour late..."
Sarah lost track of time. Sarah is the one who screwed up. Irene has every right to be frustrated. For all we know, she and Robert were supposed to see a movie or meet someone and Sarah's tardiness wrecks their plans. Note, please, that while she is frustrated, she's not even yelling. My mom would have screamed bloody murder and then held it over my head for weeks.
"Your father and I go out very rarely..."
"You go out every single weekend!"
There is no way to confirm who is right on this. I will say Sarah is the one prone to hysterics and exaggeration, so it's not looking good for her.
"And I ask you to babysit only if it won't interfere with your plans."
I ask. Irene asks. She doesn't demand, and she doesn't expect Sarah to give up her previous plans.
"Well how would you know what my plans are? You don't even ask me anymore!"
Sarah, you were LARPing in a park by yourself. Furthermore, with the storm you would have gone home anyway.
"Well I assume you would tell me if you had a date. I'd like it if you had a date. You should have dates at your age."
Irene doesn't want Sarah to be a Cinderella stuck at home every night. She wants her to go out and have a social life. This is literally the opposite of the bedtime story Sarah tells Toby later.
Also, "I'd assume you tell me..." Irene might not be wording it in the best way here, but she wants Sarah to communicate with her. She wants them to have a relationship.
Then Robert enters the scene. "Sarah, you're home. We were worried about you."
WE were worried. As in both he and Irene. You think that's the reason she was waiting on the porch? Because their sixteen year old daughter is an hour past when she said she'd be home and now it's raining and getting dark?
Tumblr media
It's not like she'd ever talk to a stranger.
Tumblr media
Sarah runs up the stairs in a snit, not even acknowledging her father and leaving Irene dismayed. "She treats me like a wicked stepmother in a fairy story no matter what I say." Her voice isn't angry, it's hurt. She's making an effort to reach Sarah, but nothings working. She can't break through the tantrums and the anger and the hero worship of Linda.
Sarah is a fantasy junkie. It's all over her room. Her books are all fairy tales. Her dog and her teddy bear are named after figures from Arthurian legend. But she's wrapped herself in a different kind of fantasy, a toxic one. One where Irene, well meaning and kind, is one of the evil stepmothers from her fairytale books, while Linda is good and virtuous like one of the dead moms at the beginning. Except Linda isn't dead. She's shtupping a costar.
Part of Sarah's coming of age and maturity is rejecting Jareth, the stand in for her mother's lover and therefore finally rejecting following her mother's selfish path. We see her finally let go of Linda by putting her picture and clippings in the drawer. Hopefully, the next morning, after she picks the confetti out of her hair, she'll finally be able to start over with Irene.

"Heavens, you look stunning!" Gordon announced when he saw you, opening his arms wide as an invitation for an embrace.  You only went in for a quick hug, but he grabbed you tight and kissed the top of your head as you laughed delightfully.  "Doesn't she look ravishing?  Don't I have excellent taste?"
The other ladies nearby nodded in agreement, hanging off of him like they tended to.  That was the way Gordon was: magnetic, for his personality just as much as his looks.  Blonde curls with light brown eyes and that megawatt smile… as long as you'd known him, he'd never had trouble with ladies— he just made trouble for them.
"Aren't I the greatest literary agent you ever had?" he asked you, and you rolled your eyes.
"You're the only I've ever had," you reminded him.  "You represented me when I was a teenage girl trying to sell my assignments from secondary school!"
"Yes, so I win by default," he decided with a big kiss to your cheek that made you scrunch up your nose.
"But that makes you the worst I ever had, too, doesn't it?" you noticed as Gordon relaxed his embrace to just an arm around your waist.
"See?" he prompted the nearby women, "Didn't I tell you?  Can't get anything past this one— sharp as a whip, she is—"
As you shrugged in dismissal of the praise, you looked around the room in awe of all Gordon had done for you now.  He had a taste for the extravagant, clearly; truth be told, it was nothing like you'd pictured it, and nothing like what you'd asked him for when he insisted on throwing a party.
"So, please, drink up, be merry, all of that," Gordon instructed his ladies, motioning out towards the crowded room, "get properly sloppy if you must— all in honour of this lovely woman right here… a genius of writing, and one of my longest and dearest friends."
As they departed in search of free drinks, you turned to Gordon with a nervous frown.  "I'm not sure this is really all for me, Gordy," you sighed.
"Of course it is," he chuckled heartily, "I told you I'd throw something to celebrate another year of us working together— I wanted to have a gala for your novel's first publishing, but you were too busy on the honeymoon then—"
You smiled just at the mention of your honeymoon.
"All these people, doll, they're here for you," Gordon assured.
"The people, maybe; but the evening wear, the drinks, the music, the glamour?  That's for you, isn't it?" you smirked.
But before he could respond to the accusation, his eyes fell somewhere at the other end of the room, and he turned you to look the same way.  "Speaking of people here for you…" he trailed off.
You perked up when you saw William, slipping through the crowds of people, already approaching you with his hat tucked under his arm.
"You came!" you squealed with excitement as you jumped towards your husband, wrapping your arms around his neck and kissing his cheek.  "Oh, dear," you sighed when you saw that you'd printed berry-red lipstick on his cheek, starting to wipe it off with your fingers.
"I couldn't miss it, of course," he smiled at you, his voice so soft you barely heard it over the hustle and bustle of the party.
"They shouldn't have let you in," Gordon said, making you both look back at him.  "It's black tie only, you know."
William smiled slightly with his lips pressed together.  "He's only joking," you realised with an awkward mumble.
"The uniform seemed to go over alright," William replied, sticking his hand out towards Gordon for a shake.
"Oh, don't be so formal," Gordon laughed as he yanked William into rough side-hug.  "We know each other, don't we?"
"Sort of," William answered under his breath as Gordon put a heavy hand— adorned with golden decorative rings— on his shoulder.
"Though I've half a mind to rough you up for convincing my star author to publish her next book under her married name," Gordon continued with a haughty laugh.  "She's already so established with the maiden name!"
"I didn't convince her of anything, I only married her," William defended.
"Never thought you'd manage to tie this one down," Gordon smirked, "independent as she is."
"She didn't put up too much of a fight," William winked at you, and you felt a little flushed as you blinked quickly.
Apparently tired with that line of conversation, Gordon stood beside you and flipped it back to the real topic of the evening: your writing.
“She’s quite a prodigy!” Gordon exclaimed with a wide grin, wrapping an arm around you, then.  “You’ve read what she writes, haven't you?”
“Some of it,” William admitted with a nervous laugh, looking down for a moment.  “The rest is too sad for me, I’m afraid.”
“Her latest is a masterpiece,” Gordon assured.  “Forbidden love, secrets, affairs—”
“Sordid stuff,” William frowned, shaking his head.
“Sells, though,” Gordon winked.  “Men and women— we’re even selling copies in America!”
William only nodded, not seeming too convinced, and you deflated slightly as you reached out for your husband’s hand.  “Aren’t you proud of me?” you asked, sounding much more pathetic than you meant to.
“Of course, darling,” he smiled at you, “always.”
“You don’t mind if I borrow your lovely wife again, do you?” Gordon beamed.  “There’s some people over there she should meet— they might just sponsor the tour for her next novel.”
“All these book tours, I feel as if she’s hardly ever home,” William sighed.
“Well, we’ve got to keep her on the tours,” Gordon chuckled, “or that pretty face will go to waste!”
William’s jaw tightened as he nodded curtly in agreement, and you felt nervousness turning in your stomach.
“You should have a drink, soldier,” Gordon offered to lighten the obvious tension, handing William a wide glass of champagne.
He patted your husband a little too roughly on the back as he drank, before dragging you off to talk to some publishers or whatever— you glanced over to try to see your husband at the bar, hoping to catch him smiling at you, but you only caught his icy stare over the edge of his glass.
~
Enough liquor loosened you both up, and you managed to enjoy the party well into the hours of the night— it was almost one in the morning when you got home, yet you had a shocking amount of energy still coursing through you as you started to undress at the vanity.  It must’ve been all the people there, and knowing they were all celebrating you; it was electrifying, even as someone who preferred to be cooped up alone with her typewriter.
William leaned against the bedroom doorway as you shed your heels and stockings, then unpinned your hair.  When you saw him skulking on the reflection, you smirked to yourself, taking out one of your earrings.
“What’s the matter, love?” you asked sweetly, but he said nothing.  “Love?”
“I guess I’m not much of a partier,” he explained flatly.
You smiled a little, taking out your other earring and then reaching behind your neck to unclasp your necklace.  You didn’t even really notice the silence before it was broken.
“I don’t like the way he looks at you,” William said suddenly, and you scoffed— once you realised what he was talking about.
“He’s just that way,” you assured, “I don’t take it personally.”
“And all the talk of your genius, of your prodigious writing— that’s not personal?”
You shrugged slightly as you turned slightly and looked at him over your shoulder, smiling but knitting your brows together in confusion.  “Isn’t that why you married me?  I thought you liked the way people fawn over me.”
“But you know him,” William insisted again.  “You knew him before you even met me, you work with him— you spend long hours with him, when I’m gone—”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” you laughed, standing up, but he only glared at you.  You tilted your head as you approached him.  “William, you couldn’t really think—”
“Don’t patronise me,” he sneered, and when you reached out to touch his face, he snatched you by the wrist and yanked you closer.
“William!” you scolded, whimpering as he moved his face close to yours, nostrils flaring as he breathed heavily through them.  “William, please—”
“Look at me,” he demanded, grabbing your face with his other hand.  “Look at your husband, darling.”
You bit your lip to suppress its shaking, meeting his fiery— yet cold— stare.  “You’re hurting me,” you whispered, tightening your hand into a weak fist as he held it painfully tight.
“I can see, you know,” he told you sharply and quietly through his teeth.  “I can see the way you laugh at his jokes, and let him pull you closer.  His hand on your hip—”
“It’s nothing, William,” you breathed, and his hand moved down from your face to your neck, then your chest, where he brushed his fingers over the neckline of your dress.
“Wearing the dresses he buys for you,” he noticed with a sneer.  “God, he’s got you looking like his fucking whore.”
He shoved you back and you tripped to land on the bed, hiding your face in fear and shame as he stalked towards you.
“Now you want to play innocent?” William spat as he towered over you.  “I told you to fucking look at me!”
“I can’t!” you sobbed, fighting when he grabbed your arms and tried to pry them apart, attempting to force you to turn onto your back.  “I can’t, William, not when you’re like this!”
“You made me like this!” he accused, eventually getting you to turn over so he could pin down your wrists on either side of your head.  “You made me like this,” he said again, voice lowered from shouting to a soft growl.  “You let him put his filthy fucking hands all over you, didn’t you?”
“No, William,” you denied, crying weakly as you shook your head.  “Never.  I love you— I love you more than anything.”
“But you won’t tell me the truth,” he snarled.  “The truth, darling, not another story— not another one of your goddamn stories!”
“He kissed me!” you admitted suddenly, and before you could explain, William roughly slammed his lips onto yours.  You whimpered into it, struggling against his tightening grip, and he pressed you down into the bed with the weight of his body.
“Tell me how it happened,” he demanded, lips still brushing against yours as he spoke, eyes still piercing through you.
“I swear, Will, I told him to stop,” you breathed, “I pushed him away.  I told him I love you, William— and I do, don’t you know how much I do?”
“He kissed you,” William repeated, rage tinting his voice.
“That’s all, I swear,” you promised.
“And you didn’t tell me—”
“I thought you’d get angry,” you defended weakly.
“You didn't tell your poor, doting husband,” he groaned, “your heartbroken husband—”
“I’m so sorry, William,” you whispered.
“Why didn’t you tell me, hm?  Because you love him?”
“No!  Fuck, no,” you cried.
“Because you considered it— because you thought about letting him make love to you?”
“No!” you shouted, but he suddenly put a hand over your mouth to muffle it.  When you stopped, stilling briefly as he looked down at you, he took his hand away and stroked your cheek with it.
“He must have forgotten,” William whispered under his breath, petting your face and acting oddly sweet.  “He must have forgotten that you… belong to me.”
You blinked quickly, shivering as he pressed a slow, short kiss to your lips.
“That these lips belong to me,” he continued with a sigh, “that this neck belongs to me—”
He kissed it, but brushed his teeth teasingly over your pulse.
“That every single, beautiful, perfect part of you,” he went on, hands running down over your chest and settling on your waist tightly, “belongs to me.”
He bit down harder on your neck and you whined.
“Did you forget too, darling?”
“William, you’ll leave marks,” you whimpered, “you’ll bruise me—”
“Good,” he purred, “then you can’t just take your ring off and act single, can you?”
“I never take off your ring, William,” you swore, “not even to bathe…”
“I still want my marks all over you,” he explained darkly, “I still want you bruised tomorrow.  I don’t just want them to know you’re married, darling— I want them to know how good I fuck you.  I want them to know that your husband fucks you.”
Suddenly his hands were at your dress, tearing it to shreds right down the front.
“And I want them to know,” he continued with a groan, “how much you love it.”
He flipped you over roughly, yanking you up by your hair until you were forced to scramble onto your hands and knees.  Your head dropped defeatedly when he let go of your hair, and he held your hips tightly with one hand as he opened his trousers with the other.
“W-wait,” you stammered, but he ignored you, reaching up under the tatters of your dress to yank your girdle and panties down.  Before you could beg for some mercy again he slammed into you, making you choke out a wavering cry; instantly he was fucking you hard and fast, making you shake all over and try to reach back to grab his hips so he might slow down.  “W-Will, love, please—” you whimpered helplessly.
“Fuck, if that son of a bitch could see you like this,” William sneered.  “If he could see you now— he’d know who you belong to, wouldn’t he?  If he could see you on your hands and knees, begging for me…”
He fucked you even harder— his hand reached up to hold onto your shoulder so you wouldn’t fall forward from the force of it.
“If he could see what a dirty little wife you are,” he groaned, digging his fingers into your skin— more marks, you were sure.  “Fuck, you’re soaking me already, darling.”
A whimper slipped from your mouth as he leaned down, holding you tightly and speaking right by your ear.
“You like it, don’t you?  Playing with me,” he hissed.  “You like driving your poor husband crazy, thinking you might be stepping out on him?”
You shook your head, choking on a moan as he slowed his movements to make sure every thrust reached as deep into you as possible.  “N-no, love, no—”
“You like how I fuck you when I’m angry, don’t you?” he went on anyways, biting the shell of your ear until your channel clenched around him.  “Is that what got you so wet, darling?”
Biting your lip to hide your moans, you held tighter onto the sheets beneath you, and one of his hands came down to wrap around yours.
“So sweet,” he cooed, “such a sweet little wife.  You look so innocent, darling, they have no idea what a slut you are— none of them do, but fuck… they will.”
He sped up again and you whined loudly; the pain and the pleasure together made your legs shake, hardly able to hold you up on the bed.  He snatched one of the nearby pillows and shoved it under your hips— it kept them up when he began to fuck you so hard that you fell forward, and the angle hit just right inside you as a desperate scream was muffled by your face falling into the sheets.
"Yes, there she is," he praised, "my whore wife— how she loves to be fucked, reminded of her place.  This is your place, isn't it?  In my bed, sweet cunt taking my cock?  Not out with that awful man— not on those godforsaken book tours—"
When you tried to reach back to keep him from going too deep again, he grabbed your wrists and pinned them back beside your face as he kept thrusting even faster, making the whole bed bounce and shake.
"You can take it all, darling," he promised with a groan, "you can fit your husband inside, all the way— fuck, you're so beautiful like this.  You're so perfect, my angel…"
He buried his face in your neck as he thrusted into you, his own moans rivalling yours while he kissed your neck and ear and shoulder.
No one could accuse your husband of lacking passion, even if they didn’t see him like this— which you really hoped they didn’t.  From the very beginning, he’d pursued you fervently: he read one of your short stories, and wrote rather effusive fan mail to the magazine in which it was published.  And then when he came to your publisher’s office hoping to meet you, he took one look at you and became properly obsessed.  He insisted you were the love of his life… and before you’d even really gotten to know him!  You were nearly offended at first; but the longer his seduction went on, the more you couldn’t help but fall for him.  Strong yet tender, kind yet stern, intelligent yet sensitive… and creative, much more than you expected.  He had quite an imagination.
Unfortunately, that imagination had a dark side, especially with his tendency to be quite jealous.  It had never gone this far before, though.
He pulled out of you, only a moment of relief and disappointment, before turning you onto your back and hovering over you.  “Look at me,” he demanded again, though his voice was low and gentle now, “look up at me, beautiful.”
He tilted your chin up with two fingers, admiring the tears in your eyes with a tender sort of expression.
“Oh, my darling,” he whispered, leaning down to kiss your neck as he slowly pushed back inside you.  Your back arched and he slipped one arm under it to hold you tightly as he set a more careful pace than before— though still not all that slow.  "My beautiful girl— you can't help it, can you?  The way men feel about you."
A slightly deeper thrust made you gasp and reach up to hold his shoulders, blinking through the watering in your eyes.
"Of course he kissed you," he breathed, "if you were another man's wife, I'd kiss you too.  I'll always have to have you, darling, nothing could stop me."
"I pushed him away, love," you swore again.
"I know, I know," he cooed.  "But I still can't stand to think of it… of my darling wife being kissed by someone else.  He would've only done that if he thought you'd kiss him back, you know— he thought you would let him fuck you."
He picked up his pace, staring deep into your eyes and gripping you tightly.
“When you’re pregnant, then he’ll know,” William announced proudly as he held your hips.  “Then everyone who sees you will know: you fucking belong to me.”
Overwhelmed by it, you felt yourself get even hotter and slicker between the legs at the idea of that.  He was wrong about you wanting to make him jealous, but neither of you could deny now that you got some gratification out of it.
“Say it,” he ordered.
“I belong to you,” you promised, “I’m yours— you know I’m yours, love, always—”
He hummed in agreement, pumping deeper and faster into you as your head spun.  “You’ll be the most beautiful expectant wife there ever was,” he purred, a rough hand tugging your bra out of the way and groping your breasts.  “These nice and full— all of you swollen and soft—”
“W-William,” you stammered, hardly able to breathe with his weight on you and the way he filled you.
“Big belly,” he cooed, “and my baby inside— our baby.  Fuck, how can I wait to see you like that?”
“F-fuck,” you choked out, “don’t stop, please… please, my love—”
“I’ll fill you, darling,” he promised lowly, baring his teeth as you started to fall into it— your head tilting back into the mattress, pleasure overtaking you, your fingers digging into his shoulders.  “I’ll give you everything I have, every night, until it takes—”
“Please,” you begged, holding him tighter and lifting your face up with what little energy you had to bury it in his shoulder.  You cried from the intensity of it all— from everything— as shudders wracked your body.  He groaned as he felt you pulsing around him, kissing your face and groaning beside your ear.
“What a good little wife,” he praised as you came, “what a perfect little wife— you want it, don’t you?  To be pregnant, have my child?”
You barely managed to nod, you were so overcome by every sensation running through you.  But you did, and he growled proudly.
“You will, my angel,” he promised, “I’ll make sure of it.  Just say one more time that you love me, darling— that you’ll always be mine—”
“I-I love you so much, William,” you swore, muffled in the jacket that you clutched needily.  “I’m yours— I’m always yours— oh!”
You lost track of your words, but it didn’t matter then because you were drowned out by his gasps: heavy, low breaths as he pressed into you one last time and filled you completely.
Instantly, you were flooded with even more emotions: shame, ecstasy, confusion, hurt, love.  It was too much to take even if you weren’t still slightly tipsy and entirely sleep-deprived, but altogether it just turned you into a mess.
After coming down from his high— though he was still catching his breath— William seemed to sober up in a second as you cried harder.  Cooing gently at you, he wrapped his arms tighter around you and hugged you close.
“I’m sorry, darling,” he breathed as he held you tightly, “I’m so sorry.  You know it’s just my love that makes me this way— I just can’t stand to see another man lay his hand on you… I just can’t imagine you with anyone else, it breaks my heart, darling.”
“You break my heart, William,” you whispered back, still hiding in his shoulder, “when you think I could ever hurt you like that.  When you accuse me of something like that—”
“I just get scared, darling,” he sighed, petting your back slowly as he rocked you in his arms.  “I just get scared that you’re too good to be true.  That this beautiful creature can’t be all mine.”
You smiled against his skin, holding onto him tighter.  “I love you so much, William… I’d never— you have to believe me, I’d never—”
“Shh,” he soothed softly, as he held your head and kissed the top of it.  “I know, darling, I know.  Because you belong to me.”

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
─ hits different 'cause it's you
★ pairing: spencer reid x fem!reader
★ summary: spencer reid is used to being called pretty boy by everyone ─ everyone but you.
★ warnings: fluff, spencer and the reader acting like lovesick teens, co-workers to lovers, the team teasing spencer.
★ notes: I had this saved in my drafts for a long time and finally thought why not post it?? please don't mind any errors, english is not my first language.
Tumblr media
Spencer Reid likes a lot of things. He likes books, he likes jello, but most importantly, he likes you. He could talk about you for hours, in fact, if he was given the chance to, he would. Spencer was mesmerized by everything you did, he was hopelessly, utterly, in love with you.
“Pretty boy, what are you dreaming about?” Derek’s voice jolted him out of his bubble, he looked around embarrassed remembering he was in fact surrounded by his co-workers. Everyone in the jet turned to look at him, everyone including you. Sitting next to you was making him nervous.
“Um, nothing. I was just thinking about, stuff?” He somehow magically managed to stutter out a full sentence under your gaze, god he felt pathetic.
“Reid, are you asking us or telling us?” Hotch asked looking amused.
Spencer could feel your gaze set on him, he really hoped you couldn't see how red his cheeks are. “I - I’m telling you, yeah.” How was the smartest person in the room suddenly, the dumbest?
“Come on, give pretty boy a break,” Rossi smiled. Rossi had a sixth sense when it comes to these things, he knew about Spencer’s feelings from day one, it was obvious to almost everyone, but of course not to you.
You were equally in love with him, but you would never tell Spencer that, you couldn't bare the rejection. If only you knew how smitten he was with you. You stared at his face, marvelling at how pretty he looked, oh how you would kill for those lips to be on yours.
“Was pretty boy dreaming about a pretty girl?” Emily teased. What? No. Picturing Spence with other girls made you want to throw up. If you were paying more attention rather than drowning in jealousy, you’d have noticed Spencer’s eyes darting towards you.
“Come on pretty boy, tell us who the girl is.” Curiosity was killing you, who was the lucky lady that caught Spencer Reid’s eye?
Spencer froze, you called him pretty boy? He isn't used to that at all, you usually call him Spence or boy genius, but never pretty boy. ‘Please call me that again,’ he thought to himself.
“You think I’m pretty?” The question slipped past his lips before he could stop himself. That was everyone’s queue to stop listening, they all rushed back into their conversations wanting to give you guys some privacy.
“What? Of course, I think you’re pretty, Spence.” Where did this come from all of a sudden? You thought he was the prettiest boy, you would tell him that every day if you had to.
“I mean - It’s just you never call me that…” He tried to hide his nervous state by letting out a chuckle. He almost felt sad, why didn't you call him pretty boy? He wants to be your pretty boy desperately.
You on the other hand had no idea why you didn't call him that. Note: call Spencer Reid pretty boy more often.
“Well, I’m sorry, I’ll call you pretty boy more often if you want?” Where did that sudden wave of confidence come from?
“Oh, I would like that,” Spencer mumbled. He tried to keep the smile off his face but it was useless. This feeling was better than reading with his cardigan on, on a cosy rainy day.
“You’re the prettiest boy I know, Spence. My pretty boy.” The last part was so quiet Spencer would’ve missed it if he wasn't paying attention, but fortunately, he’s always paying attention to you.
“I think you’re the prettiest too.” The two of you were acting like love-sick teenagers, but what the hell, screw that.
“Would you like to go on a date with me once we get back, Spence?” You were beaming, after years of waiting, you finally got what you wanted, and the new surge of confidence certainly helped.
“I’d love that.”
bonus !
“Garcia owes me 20 bucks” Derek whispered watching the scene unfold.

Timeline of major events during Gale Dekarios's lifetime
Here is my attempt to compile a timeline of major events that took place during Gale's lifetime, including his personal history, happenings in his hometown of Waterdeep, and major world events that would have affected him personally or affected everyone in Faerun. I hope this is useful in writing your Gale-centric fanfics!
The time period covered assumes that Gale is 40 years old during the events of BG3 and thus was born in the year 1452 DR. AFAIK there's no canon age given for Gale, but most fanons seem to peg him as being between 35 and 45, so I went with the middle of that range. Please feel free to adjust his estimated age for each event up or down depending on how old you think he is in BG3, e.g., if you think he's 38 then subtract 2 years, if you think he's 42 then add 2 years, etc.
Some of the more interesting implications of this timeline revolve around how much Mystra's powers and presence in the world significantly changed during Gale's lifetime. When Gale was a child or teen and first attracted the attention of Mystra, she was weak, not in contact with her Chosen, and assumed to be dead by most of the world. Gale was ~27 years old and already her lover by the time a "much diminished" Mystra called to Elminster for help, and Gale was ~35 years old when Mystra fully regained her powers as the Goddess of Magic. She seems to have dumped him shortly thereafter.
Detailed timeline and sources under the cut. It's long.
Most of the text that isn't specifically about Gale is copypasted from the Forgotten Realms wiki. See bottom for links. I haven't read all the novels and modules referenced by the wiki for these events yet and thus will likely need to revise this timeline as I work my way through those.
Birth to age ~27: until 1479 DR worldwide: Mystra was generally considered to be "dead"/missing during Gale's childhood and early adulthood because Mystra/Midnight was "murdered" by Cyric in 1385 DR (67 years before Gale was born).
However, Forgotten Realms canon of Mystra's timeline clashes with what Gale tells us about the timeline of his relationship with her:
Gale: "Once upon a time, not quite that long ago, there lived a wizard in a tower. The wizard was what one might call a prodigy, who from an early age could not only control the Weave, but compose it, much like a musician or a poet. Such was my skill that it earned me the attention of the mother of magic herself. The Lady of Mysteries. The goddess Mystra. She revealed herself to me and she became my teacher. In time, she became my muse, and later, even my lover." PC: "What did Mystra's attention feel like?" Gale: "Love. Perhaps it was not quite love, but you see, the wizard was but a very young man. It was most certainly love to him."
Speaking as a middle-aged person myself, while most 40-year-olds would consider 27 to be "young," the modifier of "very" suggests he that was much younger than 27 when he first became Mystra's lover. I'm older than the oldest estimates for Gale's age and I still wouldn't characterize myself at age 27 as being "but a very young woman." That description seems more fitting for someone in their late teens / early 20s.
Also, if he was "but a very young man" when they became lovers, then that means he was even younger (a child or teenager) when she first revealed herself to him and started teaching him magic.
So Gale's relationship with Mystra must have started during the period that the rest of the world believed she was dead or missing. Mystra did still have some sort of disembodied "presence" during this period, so maybe she was simply not able or interested in speaking to Elminster or her other previously established Chosen. Or perhaps she was fragmented, and Gale's relationship began with one of those fragments? Part of her "presence" ended up possessing a bear, but I'm assuming not the part that Gale was fucking.
Birth to age ~30: until 1482 DR worldwide: Gale was born and grew up during the "Era of Upheaval," which was known for widespread wild magic and dead magic zones, a lot of changes in the pantheon of deities, and a lot of wars and political conflicts amongst mortals.
Age ~16: c. 1468 DR in Waterdeep: "Dagult Neverember, the richest man in the city, became Open Lord."
Age ~27: 1479 DR in Waterdeep: "By this year, the Field Ward had been established, and Skullport was no longer inhabited."
Age ~27: 1479 DR in Waterdeep: "The 8th walking statue, the Griffon, appeared in Waterdeep and to defend Ahghairon's Tower. It eventually settled down near the Peaktop Aerie on Mount Waterdeep and eventually became a landmark of the city."
Age ~27: 1479 DR in western Cormyr [roughly 1050 miles / 1690 km southeast of Waterdeep]: "While recuperating in a cabin in the King's Forest, Elminster felt Mystra's presence calling to him. He found her much diminished, possessing the body of a bear that had guarded a cache of items Mystra's still-mortal form had collected. She asked her most trusted servant to find new candidates to become Chosen and to recruit Cormyr's War Wizards. Only a few weeks later, having been restored to his full powers as a Chosen by absorbing the silver fire of the dying Symrustar Auglamyr and then that of the Simbul and Manshoon, Elminster returned to Mystra (in agony from absorbing too much of it) and returned much of it to the Lady of Mysteries, restoring much of her power and divinity. This event became known as Mystra's Return."
I'm assuming that Elminster's acquaintance with Gale must have begun sometime after this because otherwise you'd think Gale would have mentioned "oh yeah she's not actually dead, we've been banging for a while now."
Mystra reestablishing contact Elminster, regaining some of her power, and the rest of the world learning that she was alive is pretty huge and therefore must have been a significant turning point in her relationship with Gale as well.
I'm also assuming that Gale did not become one of Mystra's official Chosen until after this, since it seems like Mystra's Chosen weren't active while she was laying low and letting the world think she was dead?
Ages ~30 to ~35: 1482 DR to 1487 DR worldwide: "The Second Sundering, also known as the Sundering of Toril and Abeir, was a great catastrophic event in the history of the worlds of Abeir and Toril."
Age ~32: 1484 DR worldwide: "Most of the gods created many Chosen among mortals, trying to gather as much power as possible to be as high in divine ranking as they could before Ao completed the new Tablets of Fate, sealing their status and portfolio. People started to claim they had been 'chosen' by the gods and granted special powers, some apparently for 'divine purposes' while others had no idea why."
It's possible that Gale was recruited to be a Chosen of Mystra by Elminster per Mystra's instructions to Elminster to find candidates, but given that the gods were also choosing people directly during this period and that Mystra had a preexisting relationship with Gale, she may have also Chosen him directly herself. Poor Elminster out there trying to find the best candidates and then Mystra surprises him by adding her boyfriend to the roster. Gale being a nepotism hire despite having otherwise been qualified would be pretty funny.
Age ~34: 1486 DR in Waterdeep: "Neverwinter and Waterdeep began to clear the rubble in their cities that had built up over a century of neglect."
Hey, remember when Gale said that he used to be able to levitate an entire tower back when he was an archmage? Maybe this is when he was doing stuff like that.
Age ~35: 1487 DR worldwide: "Stars reportedly fell from the sky, gods long thought dead walked the land and armies led by Chosen clashed everywhere. Major geological instability resulted in numerous earthquakes and volcanoes, as the worlds of Abeir and Toril were separated once again, and areas once consumed by large chasms were restored to their pre-Spellplague status. Ships arrived on the mainland continent from Evermeet, Halruaa, Lantan, and Nimbral—all realms previously thought lost to Toril."
Age ~35: 1487 DR in Candledeep [roughly 650 miles / 1050 km south of Waterdeep] : "In an attempt to fully restore the goddess Mystra and the Weave, Elminster Aumar began his search for Khelben Arunsun's writings on the Weave, heading towards Candlekeep. Laeral and Alustriel Silverhand had also been hiding within the library: the two sisters' duty was to prepare their own destruction, so that no one could use their power to gain control over the Weave." ... "The energies of the destroyed Wards were absorbed by the Shadow King, who then left for Myth Drannor, followed by the three Chosen of Mystra."
Although Gale was likely a Chosen of Mystra by this point, he wasn't one of the three mentioned here.
Age ~35: 1487 DR in Myth Drannor [roughly 1350 miles / 2170 km east of Waterdeep]: "Meanwhile in Myth Drannor, Larloch, the Netherese, and the Chosen of Mystra (allied with the elves) clashed in a catastrophic battle." ... "As Elminster defeated Tanthul in a mage duel, the Netherese enclave crashed atop Myth Drannor. Elminster himself was saved by Mystra, who gained full control over the Weave once more, stopping Shar from turning it into a new Shadow Weave."
Age ~35: 1487 DR worldwide: "As 1487 DR came to a close, the Second Sundering ended with the full return of Mystra and the Weave, the separation of the worlds Abeir and Toril."
Gale was not a character in the novel about these events so any personal involvement would have been minor, but I'm including them in his timeline because he would have been impacted by the "full return" of Mystra to the world. I imagine he would have experienced many of the same issues that spouses of someone just elected to a high-level office go through.
Gale's lack of personal involvement in Mystra's restoration despite being her Chosen AND her lover is kinda weird, which makes me wonder if things were already starting to sour between them? I really wish that I could lock Ed Greenwood and Jan Van Dosselaer in a room together until they came up with a coherent explanation for what the fuck Gale was up to while all this was going down.
Age ~35 to ~39: 1487 DR to 1491 DR: Sometime during this period must have been when Mystra dumped Gale and he went looking for a lost bit of Weave to win her back but got a Netherese orb lodged in his chest instead.
Mystra was newly back to her full power as the Goddess of Magic and laying down the law, and Gale didn't take that very well:
Gale: "We enjoyed each other's company - body, mind and soul. But even so, I desired more. You see, no matter how powerful a wizard we mortals can become, we never scratch more than the surface of the Weave. Mystra keeps us in check. There are boundaries she doesn't let us cross. Yet every time I was with her, I stood on the precipice, gazing into the wonders that lay beyond. I sought to cross her boundaries." PC: "How exactly did you try to cross those boundaries?" Gale: "I tried to convince her. I pouted, I pleaded, I swore my ambition was only to serve her better. But she only smiled and told me to be contented. As inconceivable as it seems to me now, I shared a bed with a goddess and yet I wasn't satisfied. So I sought to prove myself worthy to her instead."
Gale's description of what happened after she dumped him sounds like it took place over a multi-year period, since I'm assuming that he had to spend some time searching for the "tome of gateways":
Gale: "The goddess spurned the mortal. The veils were drawn once more, and the wizard was left behind heartbroken." ... "Poor wizard. Silly wizard too, for he wouldn't take no for an answer. Like so many of the heartbroken, he did something infinitely foolish. One has to think big if one seeks to win back a goddess. So the wizard thought big." PC: "Define big." Gale: "Here goes: Once upon a time, very long ago, a mighty lord lived in a tower. A flying tower to be precise. I'll save his story for another time, but the gist of it is that he sought to usurp the goddess of magic so that he could become a god himself. He almost managed, but not quite, and his entire empire - Netheril - came crashing down around him as he turned to stone. The magic unleashed that day was phenomenal, roiling like the prime chaos that outdates creation. A fragment of it was caught and sealed away in a book. No ordinary book, mind you: a tome of gateways that contained within it a bubble of Astral Plane. It was a fragment of primal Weave locked out of time - locked away from Mystra herself. 'What if', the silly wizard thought, 'What if after all this time, I could return this lost part of herself to the goddess?'" PC: "What was the answer to his question?" Gale: "The answer was to try, and the outcome was to fail."
Not sure how much Gale was around for the next few events, since he might have been gallivanting around the Astral Plane looking for the tome instead of spending time in Waterdeep. But one assumes he'd notice the physical changes to the city whenever he returned, and that he'd hear about local news from his mother and Tara, so he would certainly be aware that these things happened.
Age ~37: 1489 DR in Waterdeep: "In response to increasing dragon and cultist activity, the Council of Waterdeep was formed, bringing together representatives of realms from all across the Sword Coast. The threat of the Cult of the Dragon was driven home when Masked Lord Arthagast Ulbrinter was assassinated, though it inspired more resolve than fear. In the midst of these events, Open Lord Dagult Neverember was ousted by a vote of the Lords of Waterdeep, replaced by Laeral Silverhand. Although Waterdeep was largely spared due to the dragonward, the Field Ward was still burned to ashes by dragon attacks, displacing huge numbers of people."
Age ~38: 1490 DR in Waterdeep: "The cloud giant castle of Count Nimbolo and Countess Mulara appeared out of clouds and hovered over Waterdeep for a while, triggering mass panic. Heralds sent out by Lady Laeral Silverhand tried to calm citizens and promise that there was no danger. In fact, the giants wanted to research Waterdeep's history and meet its leaders, as they search for traces of the ancient giant realm of Ostoria."
Age ~39: 1491 DR in the Astral Plane (I think?): Gale finds the "tome of gateways" and becomes afflicted with the Netherese orb:
Narrator: "You see through Gale's eyes, staring down the corridors of a dread memory. A book, bound, then suddenly opened. Inside there are no pages, only a swirling mass of blackest Weave that pounces. It's teeth, it's claws, it's unstoppable as it digs through you and becomes part of you. And gods, is it ever-hungry…"
Age ~39: 1491 DR in Waterdeep: Gale begins a year-long isolation in his tower in Waterdeep and eventually stops communicating with anyone except Tara. Not sure exactly when his isolation began relative to the other events of this year, so he may or may not have been personally affected by or even aware of some of the Waterdeep events below.
Age ~39: 1491 DR in Waterdeep: "The returned Eilistraee appeared under the walls of Waterdeep causing an influx in the amount of her followers in the city. They eventually sought out Remallia Haventree and asked her for a holy forest-glade in the ruins of the Field Ward. By Mirtul, the housing crisis in Waterdeep had worsened as a mysterious sickness killed or drove out all of the inhabitants of Downshadow, the Field Ward remained desolated by dragonfire, and Mistshore was burned down by agents of Masked Lord Braethan Cazondur, rendering all three unofficial wards uninhabitable."
Age ~39: 1491 DR in Waterdeep: "Fear threatened to overtake Waterdeep once again as the cloud giant castle of Burruld hovered over the ocean near the city. After the Blackstaff Vajra Safahr panicked and threatened the giants, Open Lord Laeral Silverhand calmed the situation, negotiated with Burruld, and learned that their purpose was to search for the lost daughter of King Skyvald, Princess Irie."
Age ~39: 1491 DR in Waterdeep: "In mid-Mirtul, numerous Masked Lords and other people were gruesomely assassinated as part of Cazondur's conspiracy to seize control of the city. Open Lord Laeral Silverhand, assisted by Elminster and Mirt, worked to maintain order in the city while investigating the murders. While attempting to apprehend Cazondur, Laeral herself was killed and disintegrated by a surprisingly simple trap involving falling rocks, but recovered with Elminster's assistance. An exceedingly dramatic showdown at the Palace of Waterdeep between Laeral and Cazondur in front of assembled servants, nobles and guildmasters resulted in Cazondur's death at the hands of an unexpected third party, Xanathar agents Belvarra Bowmantle and Suthool. Including Cazondur, a total of thirteen Masked Lords and scores of others were slain, and several more Lords publicly unmasked."
Please note that our best guess for the location of Gale's tower puts it couple blocks away from Mirt's Mansion and Gale has mentioned being a patron of the Yawning Portal Tavern, so it seems likely that Gale and Mirt would have been acquainted. If Gale was already in isolation by the time all this went down, perhaps Elminster and Mirt tried dropping by Gale's tower at some point but were repelled by the wards that Gale had set up to keep everyone away? Gale seemed very certain that no one cared about him enough to check on him but I wonder how much of that was the depression talking.
Age ~39: 1491 DR in Waterdeep: "A delegation from the city of Mirabar disappeared while en route to the city, having been waylaid by cultists of the Elder Elemental Eye."
Age ~40: 1492 DR in Waterdeep: Gale abruptly departs his tower and doesn't tell anyone where he's going per Tara's line in his origin, "You left the tower in such a hurry, and you didn't leave an address."
Age ~40: 1492 DR in Yartar [roughly 310 miles / 500 km north of Waterdeep as the crow flies]: Gale is kidnapped by the nautiloid. As explained in a previous post, I believe that he was headed north to find an unpopulated area to die and explode in.

Painted Smile
Painted Smile XXXVI
<- Previous Chapter I Next Chapter ->
Summary: You couldn't wait to meet new friends. What you didn't expect was this smiling little boy, only one year older than you, that would take such a big place in your life.
Notes: Sorry, it's been so long isn't it ? I'm working and I only have Sunday as my day off so... Maybe I'll write longer chapter.. I don't know yet. But now, please enjoy today's chapter! I've been told the past never let you go... How depressing.
It’s been a few days since Trey’s attempt on your family’s life. You have been sick since you had healed Alastor, and now you had two protectors with you. Alastor couldn’t work yet, so he stayed at home, taking care of everything.
“ Mommy, do you want water ?’” You peeked at your daughter who was looking at you worriedly.
After the fire, your parents and Marie came to visit you. They were so worried, it was a cute scene to watch them fuzz about you. Fortunately, they didn’t stay too long and you managed to have a discussion with people much more interesting.
“ Papa Legba, Baron Samedi..?” You asked calmly, sitting in the living room, your daughter on your lap. You observed Alastor who was standing up, his arms crossed behind his back, his usual smile on his face. He seemed pleased with himself, you wondered why..
“ Little lady… Alastor…”
You turned your head to the old man with a soft smile. No matter the years that have passed by, Legba still looked the same. He was still looking at you with a gentle gaze, full of knowledge you wished you possessed. He was sitting on a chair, with his cane between his legs.
“ Hello, little doll. How are you, Alastor?”
You grinned at Baron Samedi’s greeting. He was leaning against the wall, his cigar in his mouth and his usual amused smile on his lips. He seemed relaxed enough to have the discussion you were dying to have.
“ Well, goodmorning, gentlemen. I think you already know why you were called today.” Alastor mused as he moved toward the center of the living room. You smirked, he always loved the attention huh… “ Baron Samedi, something to say perhaps ?”
“ Why would I? I have no obligation to you.” The spirit smirked, blowing the smoke out of his mouth toward Alasto who didn’t even flinch.
“ Maybe not me, but my daughter? I think you do.”
You glanced at Alice who was looking at her father, her head tilted. She seemed curious about what her father was doing... Could she not see the spirit..? Yet, she could interact with your shadows… You sighed, kissing her forehead once more. You still didn’t know if bringing your child into this spiritual world was a good idea… Maybe you should wait a little longer..? But perhaps it was too late? She managed to create a shield around Alastor and herself…
You closed your eyes, not quite listening to Alastor and the Baron’s conversation. You just wanted your family to be safe, that was the reason you made a deal. To protect Alastor… And now, your little girl… At first, Alastor’s father was the enemy, the one stopping you from a happy ending… Now… It’s someone older than you, who has had his eyes on you since you were a teenager… You couldn’t help but shiver at the thought.
“ Mommy…” You peeked down on Alice who was looking at you, a grimace on her face that made you chuckle. “ It smells bad.”
You tilted your head to the side and then tried to find the odor your daughter was smelling. Maybe you left some meat outside..? No, you really couldn’t smell anything bad…
“ Where does it smell, Alice?”
She jumped from your lap and sniffed the air. You saw Legba watching the little girl with a soft gaze, an amused smile on his lips. You giggled when Alice asked her father to stop talking because she couldn’t concentrate on the smell if he kept talking. You winked at your husband who rolled his eyes at his daughter.
“ Alice, what did I tell you?”
“ What ?”
“ When I seem to be talking ‘alone’, you don’t talk.” Alastor sighed, shaking his head.
“ But Dad! It smells… bad! Like… Like when we were in the fire but worse !” She claimed, pouting while her arms were crossed on her chest.
Was she traumatized enough to smell the fire once again? After all, when you almost drown on the lake, years before, you would sometimes think your lungs were full of water and you couldn't breathe anymore. Thank God, you weren’t alone when that had happened, and you had been taken care of easily.
Was it the same for Alice?
You stood up but Alastor made a gesture for you to stay sitten.
“ Where does it smell, Alice?”
Your eyes followed Alice who was walking hesitantly toward Baron Samedi. The Baron truly seemed surprised when Alice pointed toward his cigar, as so were you. She didn’t seem to see him, but she could smell the cigar he was smoking..? What did it mean? You wanted answers now, when did you lose control of all the information?
“ Baron Samedi, please, explain yourself.” You asked, not caring if you were being disrespectful.  Right now, Alice’s safety was your priority.
“ Well… I’m as surprised as you..,” He crouched in front of Alice who was pinching her own nose. It seemed like she really didn’t like the smoke that was coming from the Baron. She truly didn’t seem to see him.. “ I thought she would be able to see me now.”
You glanced at Papa Legba who was looking at Alice with a soft smile. He stood up and walked toward your daughter with his cane taping the floor loudly. Your eyes widened as Alice turned her eyes toward the noise before rushing into your arms, scared.
“ Mommy !”
You stared at her then at the two spirits. You were completely dumbfounded, your little girl could.. feel spirit ? You shouldn’t be this surprised, she was always playing with your shadow since she was a baby. She was also used to seeing you telekinesis objects in the house, she was used to …magic.. but..
“ I see you are full of questions, little lady. Alice seems to be very sensitive to spiritual energy…”
“  Can Alice really feel the spirit around her..? Then why can she play with my and Alastor’s shadow ..?” You asked, trying to calm your daughter that was trying to get your attention, pointing to where she heard the noise.
“ Well, my dear. Look at her parents.” Alastor claimed, with a proud smirk. You shook your head with a small grin. He was so full of himself… “ But what I want to know is, why Baron Samedi..? Why didn't Kalfu or you, Papa Legba, were the one to reach her?”
“ Well, if we resume everything. Alastor, your blood is powerful, Voodoo has always been in your reach, it always has been in your life thanks to your mother. You tainted your wife’s blood with yours, making her able to see spirits and even to work with them.” Papa Legba recounted, his hand pointing toward you. “ Then, you bound yourself together, into the spiritual realm…the vessel being a deer plushie… A plushie your daughter never let go off.”
You peeked at Alice who had calmed down, her eyes were staring at Papa Legba’s position but you could feel she wasn’t seeing anything. She was mostly trying to see who you were talking to.
“ Alastor, you made a deal to kill, so you could be stronger. Your wife has made a deal with Death to protect you. You named your daughter after a brutally deceased friend. Death has always been around you, so , wouldn't it be logical for your daughter to be close to Death too..? Now, the real question is: Is Alice protected by Death..? Or cursed by it?”
You felt like drowning. Your little baby… No, she didn’t have to pay for your sins. You peeked at Baron Samedi who was listening quietly to the conversation, never speaking.
Why? Wasn’t he on your side? Should he not just say Papa Legba was doing a horrible joke to tease you?
Dear, since when is Death on our side?
‘ But, he protected her when I was pregnant..!’
Don’t trust him so easily. Don’t think Death is on your side, he might have saved our daughter, but he didn’t save your friend, didn’t he? Always doubt people’s will.
Your eyes widened as you realized that you saw this spirit, the one who owned Death, almost as a friend. You forget he was a powerful spirit, that he could watch you die without batting an eye… You made a mistake… While you saw him as a friend, Alastor saw him as a transactional tool.
Who was in the right ?
While you worked with spirits, Alastor owned them…
Who was wrong?
“ I won’t hurt you daughter, little doll.”
You turned your head toward the Baron, septic. Alastor was right, why would the gatekeeper of Death help you? You didn’t do anything to be granted such favors… And yet…
“ Don’t think too hard, I’m just amused by the situation. I don’t remember the last time a child was able to use some of my powers without me being summoned.” The Baron smirked, going closer to your daughter who turned her eyes toward the spirit. “ Now, this little genius should learn how to control her power ! Imagine if she used her power at school, how dangerous… Oh, let’s do that!”
After that conversation, you fell sick for the next few days. Nothing serious of course, nothing worth fussing about. But your daughter and husband weren’t thinking the same thing as you. They demanded that you stay at home and rest. That was why you were in bed, with your daughter coming with a glass of fresh water.
“ Thank you, my cutie pie.” You kissed her forehead which made her beam at you. You were trying to reassure her that you were feeling great, but you did feel faint, and you wanted to vomit most of the time. It seemed like the fire’s accident was still having an effect on your body…
You chuckled when you saw Alice ordered Alastor’s shadow to bring you another glass of water. She sat next to you, hugging Eamon against her little body. Your stare fell on the plushie. You couldn’t help but remember when your parents gifted you with it. It was white as snow, and now he was reddish because of Alastor’s blood because of his father’s beating…
Death and violence were really around your family right…
“ Mommy, I learned something at school! Do you know how to say blood in french?” Alice beamed at you, excited to share her knowledge. “ It’s “ Sang” ! Does that mean that our family name is… related to blood?” She tilted her head, her curious eyes staring at you.
Blood huh..
You observed your daughter, so innocent and yet she bore such a heavy name. She bore your deceased best friend's name, and Alastor’s name, who was tainted with so much violence. You chose to take Alastor’s name, you had the choice, but your daughter… Would she bear it?
“ Alice, are you happy with your name? With Mommy and Dad?” You asked, your voice weak. You were so scared your past would weigh on your daughter because of your decision… Violence, murder, blood… Were you a good mother? Was that all you could give her..?
“ I love it ! “ She stood up on your bed, jumping on the mattress, being mindful of your body. “ I have the name of Mommy’s best friend! You told me she was like a princess ! She was super funny! And she was very pretty! “ She laughed, clapping her hands together. “ Sanglar is also a good name! It scares my classmate ! But if it means blood, then it means that Mommy and Dad are tied to me forever !” She jumped in your eyes with a big grin. “ We are going to be a family forever !”
You weren’t aware of the tears in your eyes. You didn’t know you needed to hear such words from your daughter. It was too clever for her age, she wasn’t supposed to answer such things at your question. Shouldn’t children of her age be confused if their mother asked such a question…? Was it normal…?
You chuckled, squeezing your baby in your arms.
Since when were you trying to be normal? You ran after Alastor knowing he wasn't what ‘normal’ was supposed to be. He asked you to marry him just before ending his father. You had your first time just after your first murder, next to a corpse. Your best friend would ask you to kill people for her sake.
Who do you think you were?  Normality isn’t for you anymore. And you never craved it.
You left the bed, with your daughter in your arms and Alastor’s shadow behind you with a big smile. You weren’t feeling sick anymore, and you wanted to see your husband!
You followed Alastor’s shadow, which guided you toward the lake behind the house. You smiled when you saw your husband. Who was doing… What was he doing ..?
“ Ah, there you are. Darling, why don’t you let  Alice down for a bit?”
You tilted your head but did as you were told. Alice ran toward her father who patted her head three times. You walked toward your husband who kissed your forehead. You closed your eyes, feeling your body relaxed to his presence.
Relaxing near a killer… And you wanted to be normal?
“ Today, we’ll start Alice’s training.” Alastor whispered in your eyes, his voice deep and smooth. You couldn’t help but shiver, when was the last time you heard his voice like that…” Now, Alice! Do you want to know my and your mother’s secret?”
“ I already know!” Your daughter claimed which made Alastor raise an eyebrow, smiling down at her. “ Always smile and wear red ! “
You laughed out loud while Alastor chuckled. Is that how Alice saw you? Two people who always smiled and wore red? Funny thought…
“ Not quite, but close enough. I have three rules I have taught your mother, do you want to know them?” Alastor asked and grinned when Alice nodded furiously. “ The first rule..”
You smiled as Alastor taught Alice the rules he had given you when you were kids. You sat down on the grass as Alice repeated the rules then smiled at her father. She was trying so hard to get praises from him, it was adorable.
“ Now…” Alastor’s eyes turned red. “ Do you see my shadow ?”
“ Shadie? Yes, I see him.” She nodded, waving at the shadow which waved back. You giggled at the shadow’s name, it seemed to like it.
“ Try to create a shield so he can’t touch you.” Alastor said, crossing his arms on his chest. You frowned. wasn’t he going to help her more than just ask her to do something. You stared at your little baby who was so confused… Aah..
You stood up and walked toward your daughter, kneeling next to her.
“ Do you remember what I told you? When you are feeling overwhelmed ?” You waited for her to nod. “ Then, let’s imagine, Shadie..? Shadie was being mean, so you want to be alone a little bit.” You raised your hand in front of you, your daughter mimicked you. “ Now, imagine a shield around you.”
You smiled as Alice closed her eyes, frowning very hard, trying so hard to material a shield but without any success. She opened her eyes and looked at you sadly. You smiled at her, kissing her cheek, whispering sweet reassurance.
“ Can Eamon help me..?”
You tilted your head but nodded. You walked back inside the house, letting Alice with her father. Should you be alarmed she was so attached to this plushie..? You entered the room and took the plushie.
You stared at it, then you hugged it, feeling some relief in your body. Even after all these years, it was still your little protector..? Maybe Alice felt the same way, and that’s why she needed this plushie. She must have felt out of place everywhere she was because of how she was…
You walked back toward your little family but stopped at the scene in front of you.
Alastor had one knee on the floor, behind Alice, and was showing her how to place her hand in front of her. What made you nostalgic was that the gestures he was teaching her, were the first gestures you used to when you first used your power.
Alastor was teaching your daughter with your techniques…
Why were you feeling so emotional..?
You walked toward them with a fond smile. You felt your breath shake as your husband and your daughter lifted their heads to watch you approach. Alice gave you a big smile, while Alastor looked at you with an amused smirk.
Yes, you didn’t care for normality if it was your everyday life, seeing your husband teaching your daughter.
Alice took Eamon in one arm and then raised her little hand in front of her. You took a step back, and so did Alastor, to watch if something happened. She was trying so hard, you really were rooting for her…
Your shadow moved toward Alice and patted her head, trying to encourage her. You wondered how you could help your daughter… How hard could it be to try something you didn’t know existed… How difficult could it be to believe in something you didn’t understand…
“ Darling.”
You turned your eyes toward Alastor who was staring at Alice. You frowned and then looked at your daughter, still shieldless. She had her head down, mostly defeated by her failure and you knew Alastor wouldn’t comfort her… You sighed before walking toward your little baby.
“ It’s okay, baby. Mommy did when she was older, you know?” You smiled, approaching your hand toward her and flinched when you felt how cold her skin was. “ Alice ?”
Your daughter raised her big eyes toward you.
Big purple eyes.
You took a step back, as she tried to grab your hand. You could see she was confused and scared so as soon as you composed yourself, you hugged her.
“ I’m scared… It’s cold… My eyes are like ice..” She mumbled, squeezing Eamon against her.
You kissed her forehead, humming against her, reassuring her like you could. Even if you made a deal with the Baron, you weren’t fully attached to him like you were with Papa Legba, so you didn't really know how Alice was feeling.
The first time you met Legba, you felt hot, warm… When you are using the Baron’s power, you feel cold… Was that how Alice felt?
“ It’s okay, look at mommy..” you whispered and stared into your daughter’s eyes. Her brown honey eyes have been replaced by a vivid purple hue. Even if it was strange, and in a way… sad, it truly meant Alice was attached to Voodoo and Baron Samdi, she was beautiful.
You felt Alastor kneeled next to you, patting his daughter’s head.
“ This world is dangerous, Alice.”
“ Why…?” She whispered, looking at her father.
“ Because people like us exist.” Alastro stated. He tilted his head with an amused smile. “ What do you see? Come on, tell me.”
“ But I’m scared…”
“ Scared? Why would you?  your mother and I, are here? What could happen ?”
You smiled at your daughter who seemed to be reassured by her father’s words. You knew Alastro wasn’t trying to reassure her, he was stating the truth…
Alice began to look around, she even let you go and walked a little further with Alastor's shadow and your own, as her guard. You turned your head toward Alastor.
“ So, what do we do about John?”
After explaining to Alastor everything that happened with John, your husband didn’t say much. You had begged him to share his thoughts because you couldn’t be left in the dark with the recent evenement. His only answer was that he needed time, but he would talk to you soon.
Soon was now.
“ Well, what about him? Don’t you want to kill him dear? Or did you change your judgment because he was nice with you?” He tilted his head toward you with a menacing smile. “ Because he plays the role of the prince, the same prince you used to read when you were younger? Fighting his family for a dame?”
You frowned at this. What was he trying to do ? You didn’t say you wanted John to side with you. You were asking him his opinion.
“ Alastor, what are you talking about..?”
“ Do you really think John is going to betray Trey?”
“ It’s just… I can feel it, Alastor. John doesn’t know about Trey’s sins.” You said, taking his hand in yours.
“ Mnhn… Then, I’ll tell you what I know. John will never stop being in love with you. If you want to use him to bring Trey down, then I’m all ears my dear. But I know you, oh, I know you. I know your deeper fears, your deeper desires…” He leaned toward you and whispered in your ears. “ You want your happy ending from your books.”
You gasped, stepping back. You felt anger inside of you while Alastor was staring at you with a big smile.
“ John isn’t my happy ending!”
“ I know, dear.  But, I feel like you want that fairy tale ending and you know… I can’t give you that… Oh well, I could.” He kissed the back of your hand, staring into your eyes with that obsession you always craved. “ Say it, dear. And I shall be the perfect boring gentleman and give you that happy sappy bland ending.”
You imagined that life for a moment. That tasteless life, where your only problems would be to make sure Alastor would come home to a warm dinner… Long gone would be the excitement to gain new skills, to talk with spirits, to learn things from Papa Legba, to laugh with the Baron, to watch your shadows play together, to watch this bland life where Alice would be worth only as a married woman.
Long gone would be the bloodlust and mostly, the Alastor you loved, you craved, you were crazy about.
“ If I asked for that life, kill me.”
Alastor's eyes widened, his grip on your hand getting tighter. You could see his eyes staring at you, mostly trying to see if you were serious. He leaned toward your face.
“  Really..? Would you let me kill you?” He whispered, his voice shaking with desire. You stared at him, your heart beating faster, excitement pooling inside your belly. You grasped his tie and forced his lips against yours, moaning in relief at the feeling of this desperate, dark and twisted kiss.
“ Yes.”
After this, Alastor began to train Alice every afternoon. Of course you were there to make sure he wasn’t working her too hard. Alice seemed to learn quickly, way too quickly. You were worried, should a child learn so quickly…? But Alastor never asked her to do anything more than use her eyes. She could see things when her eyes were like that, she would point at something near the forest and when you walked over, it would be the corpse of an animal.
You guessed that she could see the spirit of animals, if they recently died. Alastor and you couldn’t be capable of such talents. You would stop her coming toward a decomposed animal, you didn’t want her to see that yet.
But of course, she was still a child with a power too strong for her.
The following nights, Alice would wake up by screaming in fear. Alastor and you would rush inside the room and she would talk about how the dead animals wanted to eat her, or come close to her.
She would sleep in your bed, almost every night but you could see she was becoming more tired as days passed by. The nightmares were restless, and your little girl was becoming weaker as day went by.
You were at home, baking your daughter’s favorite dessert, as she was at school, when the phone rang. You wiped your head full of flour before answering.
“ Mrs. Sanglar? This is Gwen, Alice’s teacher. I’m calling because Alice fought against one classmate, could you come here around 4pm?”
You looked at Alastor who was leaning on the wall, next to you. You were dumbfounded, Alice fought against someone ? She could be full of herself, like your darling husband, but she wasn’t violent.
Alastor took the phone from your hand, and answered with a smile.
“ We are coming right now.”
As soon as you entered the school, you hasted toward the director’s office. You knocked and entered the room where Alice and another boy were sitting, their head down. Alastor walked toward your daughter and put his hand on her shoulder.
“ Now, what do we have here?”
You kneeled next to your daughter as the director said that he was waiting for the boy’s parents to come. You stroke her cheek with a reassuring smile.
“ What happened, baby?”
“ I’m so tired mommy… Everything seems too loud… when… When someone touches me… It feels like.. It stings…I don’t want them to be near me… It’s too much..” She mumbled, her eyes becoming watery. You hugged her, carrying her in your arms.  You could see Alastor’s gaze on Alice, was he making sure she was okay..?
“ Little boy, do you want to explain why you fought against a girl?”
“ I’m sorry sir.. I just wanted to play with her… But then, she pushed me so hard without using her hands, I saw it! She was being weird ! Talking alone ! Looking where nobody was there! …She freaks me out…”
You frowned when you heard the boy’s explanation but didn’t do anything more. They were all children, he was just scared of the unknown. You kissed your daughter’s forehead, rocking her against your chest.
“ May we go? Alice has been having nightmares, which explain why she is so tense and prone to violence. It won’t happen again.” You smiled to the director who didn’t acknowledge you, he turned his face toward your husband.
“ Sir, I think–”
“ Did you just ignore my wife?”
The temperature dropped, making everyone freeze. You turned your eyes toward your husband who was smiling at the man, teeth bared. The poor man was trembling, shaking his head.
Aahh.. How long since someone was scared of him. How long since you had seen your husband as the predator he was…
You smiled pretty behind him, looking at the director who was trying to apologize to you, not that you cared anyway. Alastor whispered something in his ear before leaning back. You wished the wind would have brought you the sentence Alastor said that made the poor man pale so quickly.
“ Now, since everything is settled, we might go on our merry way. Have a nice day, gentlemen !”
Alastor guided toward the exit before driving you back home. Alice was in your arms.
“ Am I in trouble..?”
“ Why would you be?” Alastor asked, with an amused smile.
“ I… I pushed the boy… I did what mommy told me when I’m feeling overw…ower…”
“ Overwhelmed?”
“ Yes, that.” She said.
Alastor just snickered at that but didn’t ask for more. You hugged your daughter during the drive home, letting her fall asleep against your chest.
Once you were home, you put her in your bed with Eamon, knowing she would feel better if she saw the plushie by her side. You walked down the stare and freezed. Alastor was in his office, you could feel him.
And yet, you felt like you were being watched.
Trey..? No, it wasn’t the same feeling..
You closed your eyes and sat on the sofa. You concentrate on your yourself and feel your soul coming out of your body.  As soon as you did it, you could hear Alastor coming into the living room, sitting next to you, making sure your body wouldn’t hurt itself.
“ Dear, I guessed you felt something ?” He watched toward your direction without seeing you.
You flew around the house, trying to find the subject of your screaming instinct.
Maybe you were just being paranoid?
You sighed, ready to go back to your body but stopped when you felt something in front of you. You flew toward the front door and looked around it. Nothing… Were you being paranoid?
Your eyes widened when you saw it and then everything scattered.
Alice woke up screaming while you were being tugged back in your body. Alastor took your face between his hands, his gaze serious.
“ What did you see?”
You were breathing hard, not being able to speak. You shook your head and pointed toward the door before running toward your bedroom where Alice was crying, squeezing Eamon against her. You hugged her hard, against you. Could she feel your inner turmoil after what you saw?
Were you even sure you saw it ?
You calmed Alice down before turning your head toward Alastor who came toward you with a sinister look even though his smile was still present. You stared at him, hiding Alice’s face against your chest.
“ Did you find it ?”
Alastor nodded before walking toward you, opening his palm.
Inside your husband’s hand was an eye. A human eye.
“ I think we know who this belongs to.” He whispered.
Even if he was calm, you knew he was shaken. His gaze wasn’t leaving the eye. You knew who it belonged to, and you knew he did too. This eye he had seen since he was a child, the eye of the only man who tortured him all his childhood.
“ Your father’s.” You whispered.
He only nodded, before sighing. He shook his head, mumbling without you understanding anything.
You looked at Alice who calmed down a little.
“ What did you dream about my baby?” You tried to smile at her, even if she had nightmares, sometimes it would be so bizarre that it would made you laugh and you would create a whole funny story about it.
“ A man was staring at me… With one eye missing.”
Alastor’s head snapped toward Alice while you froze, feeling a shiver in your whole body. He kneeled in front of her, his gaze fixated on her expression.
“ What did he look like?”
“ I don’t know… I didn’t want to watch him..?” She sniffed.
You observed Alastor’s face, he couldn’t hide how affected he was by this news. You put your hand on his shoulder with a reassuring smile.
“ Alastor… She dreamed of him. Don’t you remember, sometimes, Papa Legba would take my soul to show me something important ? Maybe the Baron did the same thing.” You said, with a soft smile even if you were shaken by this revelation. Legba always told you he would use your dream to give you information, did Baron Samedi do the same thing?
“ Yes… Maybe she was being warned, just like you used to.” He sighed, his hand going through his hair. “ Does that mean someone has already found my father’s corpse?”
In the deafening silence, you could only hear Alice's little voice.
“ I wasn't sleeping.”

Part 5:
She never let go of his hand. She has that determined look on her face like she's going for world domination.
(He doesn't know this, but she never thought she'd get the chance to hold his hand again. She's gonna take it.)
"Hey. Woah." Steve pulls her arm to a stop. "What's going on?" He thinks he can see smoke coming out of her nose.
"Nothing." She trudges ahead.
"Lydia. Tell me the truth."
"Why?" She states. "Why you?" Her inquisitive gaze makes a shiver go down his spine. He fights back.
"Yes! Exactly! Why me?! You came to me. You asked. For me. So tell me. Why?" They're in an aggressive staring contest. Both glaring at the other.
She backs away and sighs. Looking defeated.
"Look...uh Steve. When I was growing up all I heard were good things about you. How you protected my family. How you would do anything for them. All your heroic tales. So when I heard I was in 1987 my first thought was to go where I would be safe." She only slightly lying through her teeth. "I wanted to be with you. And here I am."
He stares at her, eyes wide. Tears shining through. "Me?"
She shoves him away a playful smile across her face. "Yes you dingus. Why wouldn't I?"
He thinks of the embarrassing photo of him in his scoops ahoy uniform Robin has on her desk. He remembers a lot of 'ahoy ladies!'...right...who wouldn't want to be with that.
"Well I'm glad you found me. What was all the" he makes a wide swirling motion with his hand "back there."
Her face darkens significantly.
"Eddie." She mutters. "I told him something I shouldn't have and his reaction wasn't ideal. I don't know what I expected but I shouldn't have told him anything. I knew what I was risking and I still let it slip."
He puts a hand on her shoulder. "It's not your fault. It can't be easy to be away from what you know. And the questions probably aren't helping it probably seems like we're attacking you."
She starts walking again. "Well it certainly isn't helping. If I wanted to be yelled at by teenagers I'd just go to work." He gives her a questioning look. "I'm a guidance counselor at a high school."
Pride fills his chest. "That's awesome Lydia. Those kids are lucky to have you." She softens, voice quiet.
"You really think so?"
"I do. Come on. I'll tell you some embarrassing things that happened right down this path."
The rest of the walk was spent telling childhood stories and small tidbits she never heard. About his parents, who she never met, who she didn't even know were alive. About his high school days. About Eddie tripping while milk shot out his nose. She couldn't even hear the nature the laughter was too loud. She's never felt happier.
------
When they enter the house again El runs up to Lydia and grabs her hand, dragging her into a separate room muttering about something.
Steve takes it upon himself to find Eddie, he isn't sure exactly what Lydia told him but it's not good if he's upset.
He knocks on the door.
"Lydia?" He hears Eddie ask quietly.
"Not quite." Steve pushes his way inside and sits on the bed next to Eddie. "Are you ok?" He asks.
"I asked her if it was me. You know, who dies."
Steve's heart hammers in his chest. He can't live with that. The first round almost took him from Steve permanently. Days poured loitering next to his hospital bed, now days pretending he doesn't notice how close he wants to be to Eddie.
So maybe he's having a crisis...sue him.
"What did she say?" Each word is laced in fear.
"I- I can't tell you."
"Please Eddie let me help," he grabs his hand trying not to notice the sudden blush that's appeared on his cheeks.
"I shouldn't. She didn't even want to tell me that's why she's mad. She thinks she's doomed us all by putting some faith in me."
He looks dejected.
"You need to talk to her. She didn't seem mad on our walk, just frustrated. She's away from everything she knows."
"Steve," his wide brown eyes are piercing into him. This is the most intense eye contact he's had in months (not the point. focus.) "If I tell you you can't tell anyone else. I just don't know how to process this. I think if I don't tell someone I'll explode." He grips his hands so tight they've turned white.
"Whatever it is we'll get through this together." Steve's eyes are set. Determined. Serious.
"I'm her dad."
Oh! Oh.
He feels his heart crumble into a million pieces.
"Oh! That's great man. I'm sure you're making a great girl really lucky in the future." His smile is so fake it leaves a sick taste in his mouth.
Eddie looks upset.
"Are you not happy about this? I know you have a weird relationship with your family but that doesn't mean-"
"Steve I'm gay."
Oh!
"Oh!" SHIT "UM I MEAN thank you for trusting me."
Eddie sends a smirk his way. "Yeah no worries. I just don't understand how Lydia even exists."
Steve can't wipe the smile off his face. He has a chance!
"Whatever way it happened it happened." He shakes their clasped hands. "You have a kid!"
"I have a kid!" His smile is so bright. It suddenly turns to panic. "Oh god I have a kid." He puts his head in his hands and groans.
"Hey it'll be fine. She's a great person. Raising a good kid is way more impressive than having one. And...you...you're great." His face is tomato red. "I have no doubts you'll be capable."
They're gazing into each other's eyes at this point. Faces so close if he could just turn his head an inch-
Eddie clears his throat.
"Thank- thanks Stevie. That means a lot coming from a single mother of six such as yourself."
"Single!? You're not gonna take responsibility for your half?"
They both erupt into hysterics.
--------
"It will not matter." Is the first thing El says when they sit down.
"What won't?" Lydia asks, her hair fluttering into her eyes.
"Anything you say about the future won't change the past. You just can't tell us things like lottery numbers or wars. Stick to the small things." She pinches her fingers together. "Small." She restates.
"I told Eddie the truth."
El takes a sharp breath. "What did he say?"
"Nothing yet I ran away."
"Does Steve know?"
"What! No! I can't tell both of them!!! They'll freak out and then what if they never get together! Then I won't exist!" She pulls on her hair, frustration seeping in.
"It will be fine," El says. "I thought they were already dating." She shrugs her shoulders. "Maybe do the same thing with them." She pinches her fingers. "Start small."
----
Lydia finds Steve holding Eddie's hands. They're both sitting on the bed whispering between them. She wants to cry. She wants to take a picture and remember this forever. Eddie's eyes find hers first. He jumps apart from Steve looking embarrassed.
"H-hey," Lydia stutters. "Sorry to interrupt, are you busy?"
"Not for you." Eddie sounds serious. "Never for you."
Steve takes that as his cue to leave, he puts a hand on Eddie's shoulder whispering a quick "you got this." Passing Lydia and ruffling her hair. "Later kid, you'll be fine." She pushes his hand away silently basking in his touch.
"I'm older than you."
"Sure kid."
Lydia sits down as Steve leaves, not wanting to look Eddie in the eyes just yet. She doesn't know if she can take his disappointment.
"Lydia..."
"Don't-" she cuts off sharply. "If you're gonna sit here and say you never wanted me I don't want to hear it. I can just tell you how I was born so you can avoid it all together."
"Lydia!" She looks at him. He has tears in his eyes. "I have always wanted you. Maybe I didn't know it yet but I did. I just...look my dad-"
"I know about your dad. I know you are not like him I know you had good people to raise you-"
"Wayne-"
"What does grandpa have to do with this?"
"Grandpa? Oh jesus fuck ok. He's gonna love that."
She rolls her eyes.
"I was being sincere! He would you know...love you."
Her eyes soften at that. "I know." The smile on her face is contagious. "If you wanted me then why do you look so constipated? What's wrong?"
Eddie looks at her like he's guilty. "You probably don't know this...but I'm gay"
She can't stop laughing.
"This is not a laughing matter!" He tries to sound serious. "This is a big deal!" Sweat is forming on his brow, "how did I knock someone up? Not that you're not great of course-"
She cuts his rambling off by pressing her hand to his mouth.
"I know you're gay...I have two dads."
Eddie's mouth drops open.
"Ivf? Adoption? All things that exist Pa." She slaps his arm. "Or the turkey baster." She gives him a wink.
His eyes widen. "Oh god. Who goes along with that?"
She knows she can tell him but she remembers her talk with El. She holds her hand close to his eyes and pinches her fingers. "Small."
"What?"
"El said I can tell you things in small doses so you don't go insane. So 'small'."
"Right. Well...ok damn." He wraps an arm around her and pulls her close. "Me and you we'll be ok munchkin."
She chokes on a sob. "It's been awhile since you've called me that."
"Ready to go out there again? Time to get serious."
"Yeah." She wipes her eyes. "It's getting serious. I'm ready to help."
-----
When they head back out to the group she's pulled aside by Robin. This is not good. She's never been good at lying to her.
She's trying to focus on anything but the piercing stare of eyes that match her own. Focusing on her dad's talking in the corner.
"Hey!" Robin snaps her fingers in front of Lydia's face trying to get her attention. "I know the truth." Her gaze is serious.
"Oh god!" Lydia mumbles into her hands "how could you possibly know the truth?! I haven't even said anything!" She's freaking out.
"I heard you talking to El. I was listening through the door."
"You know I'm Steve's kid?!" She almost shouts.
Robin looks pale. Uh oh.
"No...no I did not. I knew you were Eddie's kid. Oh my god oh my god-"
"Shit shit shit-"
"Wait! Did you lie? What else are you lying about?"
"No Aunt Robin I just...there's some things I can't talk about..."
Robin's eyes flicker over to the two in the corner. "Holy shit those two idiots figured it out." A smug smirk takes place on her face.
"What?"
"I thought I'd have to lock them in a closet- ha! Oh man this is great. Have you told him yet?"
"Who?"
"Steve of course! He needs to know, he never thought he's get a happy ending. He deserves to know. To be able to look forward to something."
"Maybe...I- I don't know."
---
"I don't know how we're gonna get through this," Eddie murmers.
"We'll be fine. You know how your future ends." Steve points to Lydia. "She's standing right there. You know it's funny, I would've thought she was my kid. Lydia is my grandmother's name. Ha...funny."
Eddie whips his head around to Lydia his mouth has dropped open and she has a manic grin on her face. She cackles loudly earning her a few confused stares.
----
The end! Of this part.
So about that happy ending...I've been thinking...
I mean why is she there so many years in the future? There has to be a reason she's there way before the Vecna attack? 😈
The way I already have the ending written mwahaha.
But remember guys...small🤏
The hardest part of this chapter was writing the steve and Lydia bonding walk.
Please interact with this! I want to know what you guys want to happen or just tell me you liked it :)

ok so i read The Goblin Emperor recently (absolutely recommend) and it's given me some thoughts about a:tla specifically post canon zuko
he is the very young very new leader of a nation that's very abruptly lost its previous monarch. He's spent the last few years away from court and almost certainly isn't used to using his court manners even if he does technically know them. He's taking the country in a very different direction than his father with bold new political ideas and radical friends. The only heir to speak of is someone he'd really rather not pass the throne to. While he does have some support from his elders he was absolutely Not trained to take the throne and certainly not with so little warning.
sound familiar?
so now I'm thinking of a post-canon zuko fic of epic proportions that goes into as much detail in the world building and politics as TGE does.
Zuko finding a good secretary jesus christ please
Zuko slowly learning how to talk to his cabinet members as an adult, trying to balance being their Fire Lord, trying to be seen as an equal in competency and not a boy king, and acknowledging that he really isn't up to speed.
Zuko learning all the servant's names
Zuko's struggle not to lose himself in the overwhelming force of being The Fire Lord
learning regular teenage emotional regulation but instead of telling your dad you hate him because he asked you to turn the music down you're screaming at your minister of agriculture in front of the whole cabinet and you can't remember why it was important
he was expecting the assassination attempts and even the coups. He wasn't expecting the more subtle attempts to lock him out of his own government
look i know we all love ignoring the political implications of gay shipping, but zuko is absolutely not in a stable enough position to be the first fire lord to get gay married. we're ignoring the opportunities presented by a well suited marriage of convenience. are they co-conspirators in world betterment and shenanigans? does the fire lady get him to take a fucking break for once? is it a slow burn where they eventually fall in love but like, 7years into being married? do they have elaborate arrangements of 'cultural informants' and ladies in waiting that are just a stream of consensual lovers? some options for your consideration under the cut
Yue (in a yue lives au)
most reassuring to an international audience
nonthreatening to a domestic audience
the optics of marrying the NWT princess are great and logical without requiring too many mental gymnastics
has spent her whole like preparing to do something unpleasant for the sake of her tribe and would probably consent to the marriage
politically powerful but a non-bender, very low chance of a waterbending heir
zuko has grown up around girls that could kill him and respects women, the fire nation might be an improvement on the NWT
once she breaks out of her shell she'd be a snark machine
the in world artists would get a kick out of the water/fire symbolism. there would be so many plays and paintings and poems
i understand that her death has symbolic and narrative importance but let me play here
Mai
relatively reassuring to a domestic audience
minimally objectionable to international audiences
marrying into a family that was powerful and favored in Ozai's time would pacify traditionalists without requiring zuko to actually make traditionalist political decisions
Mai can play the court game even if it drives her mad
azula would have an internal fit but they may be able to maneuver it such that it manifests as azula being driven to make Mai the most successful fire lady that ever was
Random Earth Kingdom Noble
afiak neither bumi nor kuei have children. idk what the heir situation is but i know there's an earth prince in alok so idk
'marrying an earth kingdom noble is a very logically and politically sound move' says zuko's cabinet. 'ok' says zuko, 'which one?' chaos ensues
someone tries to propose mai as an earth kingdom noble because her father was governor of New Ozai. the eyeroll is audible
great potential for OC shenanigans
Suki
sokka would throw a fit
potential for lovely zukki ot3 a la many of erisenyo's fics
allying with an important figure from mostly neutral kiyoshi island might translate to a mostly neutral political move and minimize outrage on all sides
she can make very heavy handed speeches about 'if we can forgive him so can you' when the earth kingdom representatives start getting mean
gives her an excuse to stay and keep and eye on zuko (and keep some warriors around to keep an eye on him too)
even if she didn't grow up in court suki is sharp, she'd pick up on the important bits quick and the rest she could pass off as her quaint provincial upbringing
imagine how the fire nation court fashion would respond to the Fire Lady in the Kiyoshi Warrior Gear. the heat exhaustion alone
Toph
objectively hilarious
i don't actually think it fits with her character arc about independence and growth but it's not significantly worse than making her a cop sooo
i really don't ship them so i'm imagining this for practicalities and logistics only but you do you
it would be absolutely hilarious for the bei fongs to go from 'no we have no children' to 'yes we would like to propose that our daughter marry the fire lord' overnight. even funnier if it's toph's idea and she has to wrangle proof that she is actually the heir of one of the wealthiest families in the earth kingdom
relatively reassuring to an international audience
the domestic audience doesn't know what to think. on paper she's a foreign merchant's daughter which is fine. in reality didn't she destroy like 10 war balloons? is that a war crime? she won't stop jump scaring the treasurer?
she'd get a kick out of redesigning all the parts of the palace that make zuko sad
the agni kai arena is now her earthbending practice ground, i hope you weren't attached to those tiles!
zuko's cabinet is free of secret loyalists in a week. toph spends her first month there roaming the halls listening for lying hearts
minor concern of earthbending heirs? she gets a kick out of all the anxiety
toph and azula would be hysterical to see interact. like introducing two cats through a bathroom door. maybe they fall in love idk. they almost certainly fuck at least once. their sparring matches threaten to destabilize the architecture and also the rim of caldera city

Personality : According to screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, Sparrow is a trickster who uses wit and deceit to attain his goals, preferring to end disputes verbally instead of by force. He walks with a slightly drunken swagger and has slurred speech and flailing hand gestures. Sparrow is shrewd, calculating, and eccentric.
Warning(s) : the reader is gender neutral, just wanted to give our favourite pirate some appreciation so the reader has his personality, skills & background, pronouns are you cause...it's literally just you. mentions of drinking habits, I've seen teenagers drink their heart out but the age of the reader isn't mentioned so make up your mind, killing, thieving cause its a pirate what did you expect ?
Tumblr media
All characters with a Jack Sparrow!Reader :
Tumblr media
HEARTSLABYUL
Riddle ♡ - He doesn't like you, not in the slightest. You violate the rules, you get into trouble and proceed to bail your friends by placing the fault on them. "I can name fingers and point names." Really ?! His bitterness turned into pure irritation the moment you admitted to have been a pirate. Riddle knows about those type of sea criminals, historically at least. Not in any sort of fantasy like ways because he says they are just children false imagination. There was this one time where Grim called for you during an unbirthday party, you kicked a buffet table to make one of the pastries fly into the air, jumped over the table, caught it, bit a piece out of it and complimented trey's cooking to finally excuse yourself. It wasn't against the rules but he wished it was because you KICKED THE TABLE WHERE HE WAS SITTING-
Ace ♡ - He finds you funny, I mean come on. You speak like a drunk person and you can copy/understand his little card tricks in a few seconds. You can't tell me the two of you don't gamble, betting your lunch and money, to the point where no one gets to eat. He will ask you about your pirate life because he thinks its rad, you get to set out to sea without a care in the world just looking for ways to make yourself rich. Sounds like new dream job for Ace ! You are pretty much the same when you get in trouble, "He did it ! ....I didn't ! No you did !" both of you are trying to stab each other in the front and not in the back cause you are very open about it.
Deuce ♤ - "Why fight when you can negotiate ?" was the first thing you said the moment he was about to hit the student you broke the eggs during your shopping for Ace's tart. He appreciates your patience, you usually try to end disputes verbally instead of swinging a punch the moment you get irritated. Admires your courage as well, even when riddle over blotted you partly stood your ground (partly because you tried to run away at first but then Ace stopped you). Got hit more than once because you flail your hands around when you speak, he reminds you when you're done but please stop cause his nose is turning into a weird color.
Cater ♢ - He finds you funny, especially with the way you talk and run away from his house warden. You get along well even if he has trouble understanding your logic at times. Definitely takes funny pictures with you even if you don't get why he does it. "did everyone see that cause I will not be doing it again." he saw it and he snapped pictures of you fighting a group of flamingos while saying that you know you're attractive but this is a little much ladies. Boy is laughing at your shenanigans, always.
Trey ♧ - He just laughs whenever you act a little weird, you're eccentric and similarly to cater, he finds it hilarious. When he made the joke about adding oyster sauce into the batter for the tarts, you just looked at him and said : "You're basically saying that you want to put me in the tart ? Because that's what it sounds like." You do smell like fish because of your adventures in the ocean, he sometimes eavesdrops whenever you visit the adeuce duo to talk about your accomplishments. Trey finds your demeanor a little charming and he may or may not be charmed himself, statement is based off of a time where you tried to play smooth in order to get a tart.
SAVANNACLAW
Leona 𓃬 - You're too energetic, stop it, stop moving. You definitely tested his patience during chapter 2 because he tried to kill you more than once (he calls you a fish smelling bastard, of course you don't care but you won't accept an insult without the 'captain' part). Because of your shrewd and calculating prowess, you were able to figure out his schemes very easily. A couple years of pirating comes in handy when your life depends on deceit and wit. He smelled your presence after he had that conversation with Jack, you're pretty loud too, stealth is definitely not you're strong point. "Alright you caught me I was spying on your little chit chat with the big dog. And honestly, I don't care what you do as long as you don't drag me into it. But unfortunately you did drag me into it...now we're both angry." "What do you want, mister/misses/mixes pirate ? A gold coin ? Take your pick because I got many." "A tempting offer which I will address later, but I came here with a word of advice mate- the problem isn't the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem." "...what." "In stupid people language it means stop whatever the hell you're doing cause it's not gonna work out. I've seen better plans than this like I've seen prettier krakens then this designer wallet." "HEY-"
Ruggie 🐾 - He's a little intimidated by you, you figured things out quicker than he would expect a drunk type of person to. Don't judge a book by its cover, got it. He was especially freaked out when he sensed your presence, even more when you came in through the window right after Jack left. You were also one of the first people to sympathize with him when Leona betrayed his own vice dorm leader, saying that if he wanted to be a pirate, he was already on the right track. You bond over the fact that the both of you are good thieves, you teach him a few tricks and he'll teach you a couple as well. Like Ace, he finds your job fun, at least it looks like it. You're more similar to him than you think, I genuinely feel like if he could, he would run away from society to find his own place and maybe a couple of treasures along the way.
Jack 𓃥 - He is confused, you have a sense of justice...but you're someone who gets hunted down by the government. And you steal too...why did headmaster ask you to solve the case again ? He's on good terms with you but you're not exactly friends either, he just finds you strange yet surprisingly smart despite your background. The way you run away is weird though, why are your legs running faster than your upper body ? Brushes it off later, he is impressed by your way of thinking, it may come off as insane but there is actually knowledge. When you came up with a plan to stop Leona he said it could be the most mad thing they ever did or the most brilliant thing ever. "it's remarkable how often those two traits connect." He admires you, you're still weird but..you're cool..even though you're weird.
Tumblr media
It's a little long on Leona's part but I feel like they would be a pretty funny frenemy duo.

Simmons dosen’t know what to make of the news Kimball wants to share. There has been no progress in retrieving their comrades from the enemy.
He has no clue what the news could even be to call for only him, Grif, Tucker, and Caboose. Are their teammates dead?
He hopes not.
Simmons arrives first, to the surprise of no one. He enters the meeting room and takes a seat. He can wait.
He's used to waiting.
Kimball comes in next, and her armor is polished more than usual. She must be worried about something.
Although in a war, who isn't?
"Simmons," Kimball says curtly.
"Ma'am."
"Where are the others?"
"I don't know."
"They're late."
As if on cue, Caboose comes in, dragging Grif. The blue-clad soilder towers over the man he drags.
Caboose lets go of the orange armored soilder once they're by the meeting table.
"Man, I don't wanna be here." Grif groans loudly as he flops down beside Simmons.
His head is thrown back as he stares at the ceiling for a moment.
"I'm ready to meet santa!" Caboose declares.
"It's too early for this shit." Grif groans lowly.
"It's three in the afternoon," Simmons says with a scandalized look.
"So?"
"Where's Tucker?" Kimbal sighs.
"Who knows. Let's just get this started." Grif flops onto the table.
"Yeah, party!" Caboose cheers.
"No, Caboose, no party." Kimball sighs.
Simmons glances around, trying to find clues for what's going on. He just needs to know. What if it's news that the others are dead?
He just-
Simmons just needs to be prepared for the fallout.
"Can we come out yet?" A voice calls from what might be a closet.
"No." Kimball calls sharply, sounding as if this is the umpteenth time she's answered this question.
"You can't keep us locked in a closet that's really homophobic!" Another voice calls. "Like what the fuck lady?!"
"Please stop yelling." Kimball sighs slowly.
There's some rude grumbling from the closet. And then there's a thud followed quickly by a groan.
"What is this about?" Simmons asks again, trying to keep any petulance from his voice.
"I'll tell you once Tucker arrives."
Grif just mutters something that's likely rude. His gaze lingers on the table.
Tucker comes in, "What's going on, Kimball?"
"Timetravel."
No one can see her face from behind her visor but the tone of voice is so serious you'd think she was announcing a death.
"Fucking what?" Tucker asks.
Because this has to be a joke. The universe loves to fuck with the Sim troopers!
"I hear them all I'm coming out!" Calls the second voice.
"Lani wait!" A third voice urges.
Out of the closet comes a teenage girl with dark shoulder length curls and plenty of attitude. She's got her arms crossed.
She stands out more than the attitude, though. She's dressed in casual clothing. Ripped jeans, a graphic t shirt. She looks - like a true civilian.
"Guys!" The teen- Lani calls behind her sharply.
"Stop yelling we're right here." A teen with long brown hair sighs. His height is almost intimidating, but his easy going nature helps.
He too is dressed in casual clothes. A Spiderman shirt screams his lack of military status.
"Yeah, chill out, Lani." Says the third voice as a dark skinned teen with close cropped hair emerges.
This one too is dressed casual, converse with shitty doodles and a teal plaid flannel.
Holy shit.
These three kids really might be from the future.
"Shut up." Lani snarks immediately, "I don't have to listen to you two."
"I'm older than you." The tall boy grins.
"You'll just go grey first."
"Someone explain what's going on here," Tucker urges, trying his level best to make sense of the teenz.
"Oh, hey dad!" The boy with close cropped hair waves.
"Did you just call Tucker dad?" Simmons gapes from inside his helmet.
"You don't have room to say jack shit papa." Lani levels evenly. Her gaze intense as she turns it to the cyborg.
Grif starts laughing. His body shakes as he looks between the three teenagers. This is too fucking good.
Next, the tall one will claim to be Caboose's kid! That would be really rich.
"Ha! Simmons, you have a kid!" Grif is laughing again
"You do too, dad." Lani levels her gaze to Grif, "Or did you think papa's pale ass had me all alone?"
Tucker gives a snort, "She's got you there, dude."
"Wait- he's your- and I-" Simmons is blushing so hard he short circuits.
"This is going well." The tall teen says.
"Let's start with introductions." Kimball says, "And maybe try not to short circuit captain Simmoms."
"I'll go first. I'm Zach James, my momma is Kitty Caboose-James. Caboose is my uncle. He helped raise me." The tall teen with the long brown hair says.
"I have a nephew!" Caboose gasps, "This is great news! I can be a ghost uncle!"
"Almost." Tucker says, patting Caboose's shoulder.
"How the fuck would he be a ghost uncle?" Grif asks Simmons under his breath.
"I don't know." The maroon soilder sighs, "ignore it."
"I'm Ben Tucker, I don’t know where the others ended up." The boy in plaid gives a half hearted shrug.
"Others?" Grif manages, sounding only the appropriate amount of strangled.
"You're my kid?" Tucker asks.
"Yeah." Ben shrugs. "And we're missing our other friends."
"I'm Lani Grif-Simmons." Lani gives a smirk, "I get my good looks from my auntie Kai."
"Oh fuck, Kai's an aunt?" Tucker asks, the realization follows a dawning horror.
"Go back. Who are the others that you're missing?" Simmons asks.
"Oh. Uh, Aspen, Cassie, and Violet."
"Who are they?" Tucker tilts his head.
"Cassie's my twin." Ben volunteers helpfully.
"Aspen is Carolina's kid. They're pretty chill." Zach shrugs.
"Violet is Doc and Donut's special little princess." Lani shrugs.
"Wait, Doc and Donut hooked up?" Simmons blinks.
"That makes the most sense out of everything." Tucker says. "I guess Wash didn't have kids."
"About that." Ben says.
"No." Tucker says quickly, "He had kids?!"
"Oh my fucking god." Lani groans, "I didn't believe dad when he told me about the dumb ass pining."
"I know." Zach pats her shoulder. He seems unbothered by this.
"Excuse me. There are more of you?" Kimball asks. She sounds annoyed.
"Probably ended up wherever the others are." Simmons speculates, "If you guys are here."
"So there are more captives of the enemy? That's not great." Kimball sighs. "We need to work harder."
"I wouldn't worry about that. Those army people don't have our friends, our friends have them." Ben grins.
"You don't think Vi's going to embrace the violent side, do you?" Lani asks, looking like she hopes the violent side is in fact embraced.
"Who knows." Zach sighs, shaking his head.
"So wait, hang the fuck on. We have kids, who time traveled, and some of those kids are being held captive? What the fuck man?" Grif sounds outraged. Because seriously, what the fuck did they do to the universe?!
"Come on, keep up man." Tucker shakes his head.
"My nephew is a space pirate!" Caboose declares.
"No, Uncle Mikey." Zach says evenly. "I'm a college student."
"How- old are you guys?" Simmons frowns.
"I'm nineteen." Zach shrugs.
"Seventeen." Lani says.
"Eighteen." Ben smiles.
Kimball clears her throat, "These three have generously agreed to help us fight-"
"Absolutely not." Tucker and Simmons snap in unison. Both sounding firm in their words.
"And who's going going to stop us?" Lani challenges. Her crossed arms and challenging gaze mark her as too much personality.
"I am your father, you are not fighting." Simmons says sharply.
"I'm fighting, and you can suck my dick."
"Lani." Zach chides.
"You are grounded!" Simmons snaps.
"You haven't even had me yet. What do you know about parenting?"
"I know I should let my kid fight a war!"
"I'm fighting, papa. And if you try to stop me I'll castrate you."
"Definitely your kid." Simmons says to Grif.
"I know, I'm so proud." Grif pretends to wipe away a tear.
"Yeah, you're not fighting Ben." Tucker crosses his arms.
"I am though. They have my sister that kind of takes precedence over listening."
"See? Ben gets it." Lani pats his shoulder.
"You're not fighting." Grif says, "Simmons is right."
"What the fuck ever." Lani rolls her eyes.
"We'll talk about this later." Tucker says, "all of you. But we have other things to focus on. Like, what are you doing here?"
"How the hell should we know? I was messing with something, and then we're on the floor." Lani throws her hands up in a 'what can you do?' sort of motion.
"Definitely, your kid." Tucker says, looking to Grif and Simmons.
"I know." Grif says, unfamiliar pride wlling in his chest.
"I know." Simmons says, very familiar dread wells up in his chest. What kind of baby could he raise? His own father was so awful... he hopes he isn't like his dad.
"Obvious genetics aside," Zach says, already used to the way the Sim troopers are, thanks to being raised around them. "We should really focus on what happens from here."
"Do we get to talk to our future selves?!" Caboose demands, "I want to know where I lost that Easter egg!"
"Caboose." Tucker says firmly.
"Can we maybe see where we're sleeping?" Zach suggests, "It's been a long day."
"Yes. Your rooms. I've put all three of you in one room."
"What?!" Simmons and Grif demand.
"Well, I don't want them in general population barracks, but they aren't high ranking enough for their own rooms."
"You put out daughter in a room with two boys?!" Grif demands, flashbacks of horror stories in his head.
"Dad, ew." Lani says with a look of pure disgust. "Ben and Zach are like my brothers."
"I know what teen boys are like." Grif scoffs.
"Hey, I promise I raised my kid better." Tucker defends.
"I'm going to fucking scream." Lani says sharply, looking like she very well might hold good on the threat.
"Please don't." Zach says, "Kimball can we go to our room?"
"Yes. Your room is three down from Tucker's."
"I'll show you!" Caboose declares.
"Thanks." Ben says.
"We'll all show you!" Simmons villunteers.
"Jesus fucking chrsit." Lani sets her face in her hands. She wonders what she has to do to get the others back as soon as possible.
"You're just upset that Cassie isn't here." Ben snickers.
"Shut up."
"You miss Cassie."
"I hate you."
Ben and Zach share a look. Neither is bothered. Honestly, they're both amused.
The Sim troopers leave the meeting room, guiding the teens down the halls and towards their room.
Lani trails after the others. Her arms don't uncross, and her gaze lingers everywhere.
When they arrive at the room, she immediately claims one of the top bunks. Sighting that she likes to feel tall.
Simmons leaves as soon as he's seen the room. He doesn't know how to father. What if he makes a mistake? What if he ruins a relationship he should have yet?
Grif just waves grumbling threats to the boy's before leaving.
Tucker pats Ben on the shoulder, "You find me if you need anything."
Caboose says something about going to find flowers for his new friends before leaving.
Ben takes the other top bunk, and Zach takes the bottom bunk under Ben.
Lani just curls herself up between Ben and Zach. She just wants to seek safety, and these two are safe.
Their parents don't know them they've volunteered to fight a war. And they're missing half their friend group.
And if she's honest, it's her fault they're here.
Lani should have known better than to mess with someone Sarge built. But here they are.
Zach rubs her back slowly, "We're right here, Lani. Right here."
"Yeah. I know."
"Should we sing?" Ben grins.
"Please don't." Lani laughs softly.
"You don't plan to act like a bitch the whole time, do you?" Zach tilts his head.
"Fuck you." She says, no bite present. And for all her bark, all her attitude, she is really just glad she's not alone.
"We're going to be okay," Zach says, sitting up slowly.
"Zee's right, you know," Ben agrees, stretching out on his side.
"Can I braid your hair, Zach?" Lani asks.
And Zach agrees. For two reasons.
The first reason is because he likes the feeling of someone's fingers in his hair, it soothes him.
The second reason is because braiding seems to bring Lani peace.
-------
Doyle stands before the Sim troopers and freelancer, trying to figure out how to explain the situation. After all, everything is very different.
"What do you know about time travel?" He asks.
"Not enough." Wash sighs slowly.
"Okay... well, uh- I have a surprise?"
"Go on!" Donut urges, "You have me on the edge!"
"Come in." Doyle calls over his shoulder.
The door opens, and three teens stroll in. The tallest has a red pixie cut. The shortest has dark skin and long locs. The middle height teen has bubblegum streaked curls.
"Oh my god." The shortest teen groans.
"These are your children. From the future." Doyle manages.
"What?!" Wash and Donut manage.
"I have no kids!" Sarge says quickly, he doubts he'd have kids later. He's already kind of old!
"We know, Sarge." Says the teen with streaked curls.
"Uh- hi?" The tall one waves, "I'm Aspen."
"Who's kid are you?" Wash asks.
"Carolina's."
"Oh."
"I'm Cassie Tucker." The short one explains, "Hey dad."
"Me?" Wash blinks.
"Yes, you." Cassie snorts, seemingly amused by her father's cluelessness.
"Oh."
"I'm Violet Dufranse! I'm Donut and Doc's kid."
"My baby!" Donut cries, sounding every bit the theater kid he probably was.
"Hi, Daddy!" Violet waves cheerily.
"This is all kinds of weird." Wash mutters.
"Oh chil, dad. Ben, Zach, and Lani aren't here. Wait- where are they?" Cassie turns her attention to Aspen quietly.
"Uh- probably with our other adults?"
"Wait, there's more of you?" Wash asks. Feeling genuine dread in his heart. Their other teammates had kids?
"Course there are, crafty aliens always have friends!" Sarge snaps.
"Yeah, there's more." Cassie rolls her eyes. "There's Lani Grif-Simmons, Zach, who's Caboose's nephew, and my brother Ben."
"Grif and Simmons have a kid?" Sarge asks.
"That makes a lot of sense!" Donut declares, "They spend so much time together."
"They had a nice wedding." Violet adds with a hum. "The pictures make it look beautiful."
"Pictures?!" Donut gasps loudly, "You have to show me!"
Violet is reaching for her phone, more than ready to show off the pictures. Unfortunately, Cassie just shakes her head, muttering something that makes Violet sighs.
"Guys." Aspen says, "We have to focus. Where are the others?"
"I don't know. But how much trouble can they get into?" Cassie asks.
"Are you serious?" Violet looks to the shortest with a look of confusion. "Lani and Ben are being let loose without any authority the respect."
"Whatever Vi, they have Zach with them. It won't be that bad."
"This is a nightmare." Apsen groans.
Washington looks between Sarge and Donut, wondering where Lopez is. But really, what could the robot do?
He's inclined to agree with Aspen. This has all the makings of a nightmare. He has twins. He has twins with Tucker.
Okay, the Tucker part isn't too bad.
Wash really doesn't mind Tucker. If he's going to be honest about his feelings, and he hates that, he's a little too fond of the aquamarine soilder.
"These young adults have graciously volunteered to help us fight the rebels so we can rescue your friends." Doyle says as he gestures to the time travel trio.
"No." Washington says firmly. "No way in hell."
There's a second of silence, while all three teens stare him down. But he's not budging on this one. He is not letting these three fight.
"Yes. I promise the rest of our group is going to fight. We're not letting them fight alone." Violet is shrugging, looking for all the world like she's just suggested tea.
"Aren't you anti violence?" Cassie frowns.
"I'm anti needless violence. If I can't talk my way out, I can fight."
"This is great and all, I'm happy to meet my new red rookie, but we aren't getting any fighting done like this!" Sarge crosses his arms.
"Can we talk about this later? It's been a long-. How long have we been awake?" Aspen looks around, trying to make sense of time.
"I don't know. I'm more worried about the look on Kai's face when we left." Cassie admits, "Here's hoping she ends up with Lani and not us."
"It's all going to be fine," Violet assures quickly.
"Yeah, you'll see. You're surrounded by big, strong men, we'll be right behind you, and you just tell us what you need." Donut chimes in quickly, sounding a little too excited.
"Thanks, dad!" Violet chimes happily.
"Okay, can someone show us where we'll be sleeping?" Aspen cuts in.
Doyle nods, mostly to himself. He needs to get this show on the road. He has a strategy meeting in ten minutes.
The genral straightens to his full height. "I've put you three in a room across from Washington and Donut."
"Thank you," Aspen says evenly.
Doyle just nods. "Woukd you guys show the new recruits to their room?"
"Absolutely!" Sarge is standing now. He's very fast.
There's some bickering, but after a minute, Sarge is leading the entire group minus Doyle through the halls.
They make it to the teens' new room, and Wash is kind enough to check the perimeter. He dosen’t know a lot about parenting, but he figures he should make sure there's no lurking enemies. That sounds like good parenting.
Aspen shows the Sim troopers and Washington off, claiming that they have it all covered.
And then Violet is trying to get reassurance that things are really going to be okay.
-------
In the future, the Sim troopers are staring at the charred device and floor with mounting horror. They just watched their kids disintegrate.
"Ah fuck." Tucker groans lowly.
Grif turns a glare to Tucker. His acusing presence should freeze over hell. "My daughter just disintegrated and all you have is 'ah fuck'?!"
"Okay now calm down gentlemen." Sarge reassures, "They ain't dead."
"Good." Doc says, looking like he might hyperventilate.
"It sure looks like they are!" Grif snaps, throwing his hand to the side, "But do tell. How do six teens survive being disintegrated?!"
"They're in the past numb nuts." Tucker says, pushing Grif's hand away from him.
"How do you know?!" Simmons demands, whirling on the retired blue.
"Uh guys, shouldn't someone go after them?" Kai asks.
Unfortunately, no one registers her words. She sighs, deciding to go pack a bag. If their parents can't get their shit together, Auntie Kai will just have to go help.
That sounds like a great plan.
Kai leaves, missing out on the part of the conversation where the others insult each other, oh, and remember that the time travel device sent them to a war.
If she had heard that, she wouldn't have packed so many condoms.

as the OG source of the A Little Kindness AU aka Raine adopting Hunter I would LOVE to know how you would change it to be canon compliant. i mean obviously the reveal would be after everything, but god just imagine Hunter worrying about his anonymous friend/caretaker and he finds out its the FUCKING OWL LADY'S PARTNER and hes just so happy theyre ok and to know who helped him out all the time but also OH TITAN LUZ IS GONNA BE HIS SISTER EVEN MORE NOW!
~adoption anon
the little gray box who started it all!!!! welcome back
good lord there would be so many overhauls...just so incredibly many I gotta try to break it all down to smaller sections to even get. a glimpse
1) okay so as we have learned Raine was NOT, in fact, under any mind control, just pulling the biggest brained move on Snapdragon she ever did see. so raine doesn't even go missing in the first place, if anything they might halt the notes altogether but still remain in the castle just because they were under constant vigilance and meeting eda again mightve made them triply afraid of getting other people involved with their work. hunter stresses about it, as you do, but flapjack isn't freaking out cause HE'S seen raine's face, and he knows that they're fine, but he has no idea what happened, so Hunter is less concerned since Flapjack isn't. not by a lot tho.
2) so INSTEAD of Hunter booking it to Luz to plead for help on some criminals, he instead takes all of this suppressed fear and worry and stress and just kinda. balls it up. and then shoves all of it out in the open during Eclipse Lake. he goes HARD trying to get that Titan's Blood and the thing where he tried to relate to Amity over being a failure? he doubles down on that shit TREMENDOUSLY and their shared failing to live up to what other ppl wanted and pushing away their friends (granted Amity actually pushed Willow away to try and help, Hunter didn't push Raine away he just thought he did). you think his breakdown in Eclipse Lake was concerning? hes about to make it even more concerning. hes very very afraid for Bat and he would really rather they hate him than anyone found out they'd been talking to him and they got murdered, so he better try and beat the shit out of Amity! if Belos is pleased with him, maybe he'll hesitate on whatever punishment Bat might be having right now
3) Raine, bless 'em, keeps trying to help Hunter how they can, dropping these tiny hints they don't mean to drop. Hunter's part of setting up and preparing everything for the Coven Day Parade and Raine is noticeably always checking in on the Golden Guard. we know now that Hunter started showing his face more after the Palisman incident, but Raine isn't seen around often, so I imagine it's around the Coven Day Parade that they finally see what Hunter looks like--and good lord that IS a literal teenager what the hell did they DO TO HIM---alright scrap all the plans. darius, eberwolf, change of plans. everything stays the same, but we're kidnapping Hunter on the way out
4) Any Sport in a Storm is pretty much the same, Hunter is just even antsier & more desperate to get these new friends to like him bc. Bat. and also punts Darius twice as hard. Darius for his part is only marginally nicer because he knows Raine's weirdly attached to this little rat of a child--oh wait nvm he sees why now. alright valid point. Darius is a firm believer in "for the love of god just tell him you're Bat it will save everyone a lot of stress" but unfortunately Raine subscribes to "if anyone i really care about is within fifty feet of me we are All Going To Die"
5) mostly everything would stay the same in Hollow Mind, i think? Raine, Darius and Eberwolf might actually go up to the Owl House and speak when Hunter and Luz get trapped in Belos's mind since its both Raine and Darius that are stressed as fuck over the kid? in that instance then everyone teams up much quicker (and in confusion) but Hunter still books it out at fast speeds into the woods and somehow makes it to Hexside. he's a slippery little bastard, but luckily now theres a whole gang teamed together to track him down and hes found by Darius pretty quickly after the Owl House is evacuated and torn apart. however Hexside is VERYYYYY on edge over coven heads claiming to want to "help" and "have betrayed the Coven" so they're all beating Darius back like a rabid raccoon and Hunter thinks he's here to kill him. so thats fun. eventually Darius gives up, scruffs Raine, and throws them down at Hexside and demands they finally clear shit up. its a very cute scene of Raine sneaking in and slipping little notes under the door of whatever classroom Hunter's hiding for his life in, wherein he realizes Bat's come back. and Hunter's finally brave enough to yank open the door to---RAINE?????
6) more stuff that mostly stays the same. Hunter however is very stressed over Raine when they're trapped in the human realm which eventually leads to him and Luz talking a lot and him realizing "im sorry waht the fuck do you MEAN that the owl lady and raine whispers were a THING??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERES STILL SOMETHING THERE????" but above all i want to fuck this boy up so insanely bad and at least give him a GLIMPSE of Raine's puppet body being possessed by Belos. even if there is no interaction other than Hunter seeing them for a brief flash I know in my heart that would fuck him up so bad. he would blame himself so so much. Belos really here to kill everything he loves before he can finally be free huh
7) MOST importantly they finally get to hug when everyones reunited and hunter feels SO INCREDIBLY GUILTY when he sees all the fresh new scars Raine has courtesy of Belos. to which Raine, in peak parent fashion, just goes "nah, i dont mind 'em. now we match :]" and Hunter's just god u are missing the point so badly but i'll let it slide. how'd you know my new scars were from belos. and raine just stares like "how did i know your new scars were from WHAT????? oh im so glad i killed his ass" "YOU DID WHAT"

non persona post?? My word she's gone mad (SPIRITFARER REVIEW WAOW!!!!) (Very long, I'm sorry) (But not really)
This review discusses themes of death, loss and terminal illness, as well as containing language. I swear a fair bit. Sorry, I typed everything as I thought of it, bad words 'n all.
Good afternoon,(it is 9PM in Ireland) fellas! Welcome to: SPIRITFARER- REVIEWED BY A TEENAGE GIRL WHO IS VERY NORMAL ABOUT HER INTERESTS!! Move over, IGN- it's the weird little guy in the corner (me)'s time to shine! I simply word-vomited this so unfortunately this review is very unprofessionally worded- however, I have faith it will be a fun read. I hope. Also, it's mostly spoiler free! ...I hope! I'm sorry!
So! Hi. I'm Luca. I have crippling thanatophobia. What's that? A phobia of death. And what's Spiritfarer about? Oh, baby. You aren't gonna fuckin' believe this! And, would you believe it, this game... actually helped me with that fear!
Currently, I'm only nine hours in, but. Well basically the damage is irreparable and I fear I shall never be the same again. Now, luckily, I have not cried. Yet. But I will! Oh, BABY I will!!! I have gotten five spirits so far (I'm coming for you, Gustav/threat) and have already had my first trip through the Everdoor. I wasn't ready. Come back, my dear. Please.
Spiritfarer is a game I've wanted to play for quite a long time, so to have been able to buy it about a month ago was one of the most exciting parts of my year so far. No, really! I was HYPED! HELL YEAH, THIS HAS BEEN ON MY WISHLIST FOR AGES! That kind of feeling. And then I started playing, and... hooooly shit. Guys. Dudes. Bros. What the hell. The VISUALS. WOW. W-O-W WOW!!! HOLY BALLS!!!
Look at this. Witness it with your eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bloody breathtakin'. I'm in tears. The game is absolutely chock-full of colourful (and not so colourful) locations, characters, landscapes... god, I'm so unwell about the visuals. And the ANIMATION!! AUGH! Every character has unique animations that just... oh they illustrate their characters so well. Augh...
Atul is nearly always happy, bouncy and smiley in his animations- a reflection of who he is!! One of his happiness perks is playing joyful music! He is literally just a guy! And Alice! Alice is a kindly old lady, and this is reflected in her design and personality- one of her animations involves dusting herself off, and I just think it gives the perfect image of a sweet elderly woman simply making herself more presentable. Also, she calls you dearie. What if I started bawling? What if I threw myself on the ground roaring and wailing?
Tumblr media
Another favourite of mine is Astrid. She's also a kindly old lady- but with sass. Alice is an absolute sweetheart, but Astrid? Astrid won't say no to a cheeky bit of gossip now and then...but shh don't tell anyone gossip is bad shhh HEY WANNA KNOW ASTRID'S NICKNAME FOR STELLA??? Munchkin. What the hell. I love that nickname. Wish I had an adoptive granny that would call me Munchkin. Astrid, my most dearest darling, how I adore you. AND she's pro worker's rights- damn, what a woman. Also, her eating animation is funny. Absolutely DECIMATES a sandwich, so she does.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tragically I will shut my yap about the characters now as there are quite a few of them and unfortunately I cannot put anyone through that (but know that Gustav and Daria also make me insane), so let's move on, eh? Who fancies a bitta tunes? I sure as hell know I do! LISTEN TO THAT! RAAAAAGHHH!!!! The music isn't a massive part of the game, per se- but it doesn't have to be! The music, of course, adds a pleasant ambience as you play- but it's not in your face! It's a nice, calm, beautifully composed soundtrack, with a special, unique little tune for every minigame. While I have no musical bone in my body personally, I am something of a- how do you say eloquently- whore for a good soundtrack. I love music, I love creativity!! Hooray!!
I actually don't have much to say on the music, but know that I do love it! But, I really really really want to talk about the themes of Spiritfarer... like, really bad.
Okay, so... I'm actually going to get into personal territory here, and it's going to get a bit heavy. If you'd prefer to skip over that, then please, by all means, feel free to skip down until you see red text.
So, there's another reason this game is so dear to me. And that reason is the fact that Spiritfarer actually helps me to process my own grief. While it didn't come out until four years after the loss of my older brother... it helps. And if nine-year-old me had had Spiritfarer at that age, I feel like she would have been able to cope better. I was unlucky- my brother passed away at 1AM, while I was asleep. To this day, I regret not being able to say goodbye... but Spiritfarer illustrates this in a poignant way- sometimes, we won't be able to say goodbye, wether due to extraordinary circumstances or simply... not realising how little time you really have left with someone. This brings me to the spirit I actually look forward to the least- not for any fault of his character, but simply what he symbolises to me.
I find myself dreading meeting Stanley later on in the game. Stanley, the youngest spirit you can meet within the game, is a lovely little boy of eight, taking on the appearance of a little mushroom creature. Nothing is wrong with Stanley, but... it's important to remember that every spirit is... well, a spirit. Someone who's died. And given Stanley is only a small child, it hits that bit closer to home. He is younger than my brother was upon his death, but he was still a child. While it isn't specified what illness it was that Stanley died from, I still see a lot of my brother in him. Spiritfarer does help me and bring me comfort, but at the same time, I'm not sure I'm ready to meet a character so close to my own experiences. The fact Stanley always seems so chipper and smiley despite his difficulties... does not help. Bit too similar, you know?
My relationship with Stanley is an odd one. I don't dislike him- absolutely not, far from it- I dislike the fact his character, a little boy, has to exist. I dislike that children like him exist in real life, and the fact I've met so many of them. It's a hard truth to swallow, and not one I'm fully prepared to deal with.
OVERALL:
I think this game can be enjoyed by everyone, even if you've never experienced grief. It's a beautiful story, and its gorgeous visual charm and cozy mechanics have something for everyone. You can fish, mine, cook, craft, and basically everything in between! Also, there is a hug button. You can hug people. Game of the decade. I love hugs! It's so... god. I just... really like the hug button, man. Oh, and did I mention you can play co-op?! If you have a friend you'd like to play with, they can join the fun as Daffodil, Stella's beloved pet cat! Look at him, isn't he gorgeous!!
Tumblr media
So, would I reccomend Spiritfarer? Short answer:
Yes.
Long answer: Yes, absolutely. It's an absolutely wonderful cozy game, with tons to do. There's no voice acting, but I don't think this game needs it- it tells an absolutely wonderful tale without it. Each character has a distinct personality and quirks- Summer is vegan and will adjust her diet as such, while Atul will quite literally eat anything you throw at him. Giovanni is brash, confident, and enjoys the finer things in life, whereas Astrid likes things plain and simple. And Daria? Daria just really likes fruit.
If you have an interest in Spiritfarer, I highly encourage you to check it out. It's available on a number of platforms (Playstation, Steam, even on mobile- although that's through Netflix, and also not very good. In my opinion, anyway.) I highly, highly, highly reccomend it to all cosy gams enjoyers, or even just people who like games in general. There's even little bits of platforming here and there, if you're into that! Do you yearn for the mines? How about becoming a woodcutter? Or maybe you just really like smelting. Well, excellent news- you can do all those things in Spiritfarer! The gameplay, music, visuals and most importantly of all, the story, make this game a highly worthwhile purchase in the long run. Chances are, if you like Stardew Valley, you'll like Spiritfarer.
Thunder Lotus Games has shattered my soul in ways I may never recover from- however, I am not upset about it. God, I bloody love Spiritfarer. This review took two and a half hours to type, I shit you not. God bless.

Hello @larabiatasstuff please could you write a story about the blonde general? I had a thought about him being cursed as a teenager, and turned into a beautiful golden dragon. Years later and now an adult, he hides in a cave and comes out only at night to eat the odd cow or sheep, but sometimes, he saw someone either robbing or hurting an iccocent person, and slayed them too. You are a skilled warrior who was asked amongst many other warriors, to find and slay this dragon. You were the only one who agreed to the terms and made your way to the lair of the dragon. But when you see the behaviour the dragon displays when he doesn't notice you, it means something isn't right. You approach him, and your first encounter isn't pleasant, but you try to assure him that you know something is wrong. He manages to somehow signal or carve a picture of what happend to him, and from then on you try to help him out of his curse. Thank you 💙
Omg I absolutely love your request anon 🖤 Of course I write that for you 🙏
It was a normal day in our lovely little village. My father and I just got back from hunting and prepared the meat and the skin when suddenly a rider approached us. "Good morning sir, I suppose you are the leader of this village?" the man said looking down on my father. "You're right well maybe not for long anymore cause my daughter here will take my place soon." the man on the horse raised an eyebrow. "The king sent me to talk to the most skilled fighter in his kingdom not some little girl." my father took a step towards the man, a serious expression on his face. "My daughter is the most skilled fighter here. I fought many battles and now I'm retired. Just because god gave us a daughter doesn't mean she can't fight like a man. I trained her well over the years so tell us why you're here or leave us to our work." I could tell that my father got angry." Well there is a dragon that terrorizes the kingdom. He feasts on the cattle and kills innocent people. The king calls out the bravest and strongest warriors to slay the dragon and bring proof that it's dead. "" How many warriors did you visit already? " I asked, feeling the nervousness of the rider." Umm... So you're the last on my list. " I nodded" And how many agreed on that quest? " " No one if I'm honest. Please my lady... " he started but I cut him off." First of all I'm not a lady and second what do I get when I slay the dragon? " " If you manage to kill the beast, the king will grand you a wish. " I looked at my father and smiled." I'll do it. Where was the dragon last seen?" the man on the horse gave me a paper with some informations on it." You have to travel the unholy lands my la... What was your name again? "" My name is Y/N, tell your king I'll ride at dawn. " the rider nodded, gave his horse the spurs and disappeared.

Top 5 popular movies you still haven't seen, top 5 movies with the worst costuming, top five comedies, top five movies other people generally dislike that you enjoy
Top Five Movies I haven't Seen:
Vivacious Lady- though I found it at my library yesterday, so I'm watching it tonight or tomorrow!
Deception- A Bette Davis/Claude Rains melodrama where he's the antagonist?? Yes, please!!
Pearl- After watching X a couple weeks ago, I definitely need to see Pearl! I had heard of it, of course, and was originally going to just watch that, since I heard good things...but X was available for free, briefly, and then I discovered that Pearl is a prequel! And it looks like such a cool horror flick.
Lawrence of Arabia- It's been on my list for a long time...but it's so damn long, that it's tough to find the time to watch it!
Deathtrap- It looks like such a fun mystery thriller! And it would be nice to see Christopher Reeve playing someone other than Superman.
Top Five Movies with the Worst Costuming
Little Women (2019)- I mean, I've written about my loathing for this movie and its costumes so many times, it's no surprise that this is number one.
Tumblr media
Beauty and the Beast (2017)- Honestly, this isn't a critique of the entire film's costumes...just the two ball gowns, which clash so much with the rest of the fantasy 18th century clothing, and it makes me sad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Phantom of the Opera (2004)- Another one where the costumes aren't atrocious...but you can tell that they just didn't have much of a budget. So when you compare them to the stage production, everything pales in comparison...especially because the lighting/cinematography is so bright and washed out that you can see everything. The costumes might have looked better if there were more shadows or darkness.
Tumblr media
I honestly cannot think of two more movies where the costumes annoy me, so I'm going to make the last two TV Shows!
Reign- I have never seen this show...but...I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that that is not how they dressed in the 16th century.
Tumblr media
When Calls the Heart- this show is supposed to be set in the early 1900s.
Tumblr media
Top Five Comedies:
The Philadelphia Story
How to Steal a Million
Clue
Drop Dead Gorgeous
The Princess Bride
Top Five Movies you enjoy that other people Generally Dislike
Phantom of the Opera (1943)- I feel like if you're a Phantom purist, you probably don't like this movie, as it changes too much from the book...and I've seen a lot of general "meh" reviews on the movie...I DON'T CARE, I LOVE IT SO MUCH
Tumblr media
Drop Dead Gorgeous- Now, I don't think people dislike this movie, in general, but I can totally understand if people don't like it...this one is interesting, because I feel like if you grew up at a very particular time, you love this movie. But I feel like most people who watch it for the first time nowadays don't love it, because there are moments that...have not...aged well. The "r" word gets thrown around a lot...there's one side story where a white girl keeps referring to herself as Asian-American...I can see why it's not for everyone. But as a MN girl who was a teenager when this movie came out, there's no way I cannot love it.
Tumblr media
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers- Another movie that maybe hasn't aged that great...I feel like this one has a lot more "general dislike", and I totally get why...I just like it for the fun musical numbers and tone, while totally agreeing that on first viewing, there are definitely some issues...I mean, it's about a bunch of brothers that kidnap the girls they have crushes on. I mean, if you examine it, you can talk about how the character of Millie generally takes no shit from her brothers-in-law, and teaches them how to be decent people...but I mostly watch it for the choreography, lol.
Tumblr media
Little Women (1949)- I wouldn't say this one is generally disliked; it's just usually put down lower on the list of LW adaptations. People who love the 1933 version call this one a tired retread, people who like the newer adaptations think this one is boring. But there is something about this one that I just love...and it is probably my personal favorite (while admitting that the 1994 film is the best film overall)
Tumblr media
Tuck Everlasting- I don't think this film is necessarily hated, but I know it's very different from the book and it changes a lot/leaves stuff out, etc. And I think most people give it an "it's ok, I guess" review, and then promptly forget about it. But I saw this movie before I knew the specifics of the book, and I really enjoyed it. I still watch it every once and a while, and it gives me a bit of nostalgia...and I do think it's a very pretty movie...really nice cinematography and set/costume design.
Tumblr media
*This last one was tough, cause I don't have that many "unpopular opinions" when it comes to movies...at least for films that I like (obviously really disliking LW '19 is an unpopular opinion)...so some of my choices were sort of "middle of the road".

I don't know how many of you watched the talking dead last night so wanna just put this out here
This is how Christian wanted her characters story to end. She asked for it so that she could have the closure she needed.
This character was apart of her since season 4, that's 8 years she was playing Rosita. She asked for that ending so that she could say goodbye to a character she knew she would never play again.

Imagining Rick and Michonne finally reuniting.
They're fighting the same horde from opposite sides and as it diminishes they see eachother. Rick sees her first,
Michonnes all decked out in her new armour so Rick doesn't immediately recognize her, just sees her as an ally that moves very familiarly he starts trying to move towards her to see if they can find an exit together,
Michonne see him and freezes. Just for a second, but long enough for a walker to get too close for comfort. He's older, has a beard again and is in something she knows her Rick would never wear if he was back home, but it's him.
She sees him coming closer and knows how he is. He's so sentimental, he hasn't seen any of his family in like 7 to 9 years at this point (after he left we had the 6 year jump and then we had like 3 other month long to year long jumps) she knows that if he realizes she's who she is that it'll get one or both of them killed, so she turns her back in his direction. Keeping herself shielded from him until the fight is over.
He yells at her, and as much as it absolutely rips her heart out to do so she ignores him, knowing she can't look at him fully just yet. He yells again, this time followed by a "there's an exit this way! C'mon"
She turns, keeping her face away from him, by this point he knows this 'mystery woman' is hiding something from him by hiding her face but he can't tell, he assumes its a CRM soldier that knows him. But he's Rick Grimes and at his core, he saves people.
It's alot of blood, guts, gore, and effort, but they make it out, into a building to hide out in, they barricade the door, working in tandem just as they used to, like not a day has passed since they last saw eachother, like nothing's changed, even though everything has.
Rick doesn't even need to get a full sentence out before Michonne is helping him with a cabinet, between the darkness of the building and the helmet on her head he can't make out her face. They aren't safe yet so she doesn't want him too, the moment he realizes she knows they're both going to freeze, to break. The doors boarded, the rooms safe, it's quiet except for their harsh breathing. Michonne is turned away from him. She still can't bring herself to believe its truly him even though she saw him. It was him right?
She takes her helmet off. Rick's breath catches in his throat as he sees her dreads fall out of the helmet, it can't be. Michonne turns, slowly, it's torturous, they're both holding their breaths.
They stand before eachother, facing eachother, both slowly taking the other in, processing that after almost a decade they're reunited.
It's really him.
It's actually her.
Rick's the first to move. Michonne is still struggling to process that he's actually alive, that he's actually in front of her, that he's moving closer, never in her life has she been as frozen as she is right now, except maybe when she looked at RJ for the first time.
Rick's hands are on her face, but it's his lips on hers that break her out of it. It's needy, it's possessive, it's like taking a breath of air after being underwater for a second too long.
It's everything she's needed since that moment she saw him blow himself up all those years ago.
It's hello, I'm sorry, I found you.
She pulls away from him, holding his dace in her hands and then she laughs.
He joins in, holding her back just as delicately, like if they held to hard the other would disappear in their fingertips in a puff of smoke. Like how it has happened in one to many dreams.
"Hi" is all she says, it's soft, softer than she's been able to be in too long.
"Hey," he returns, just as softly, "I've missed you."
That's what starts the next wave of emotions, the tears. Michonne's eyes well up before she can even process what she wants to say. Tears are free falling by the time she chokes out her next sentence mere seconds after the words hit her ears.
They talk, it's about all they do for hours, they settle in for a long night, hearing the dead bang on the doors that are secured. They find something that could have once resembled being comfortable. Rick starts a small fire, just for warmth.
They lay together, entwined in each other's limbs, every possible part of them touching the other, and they talk.
About what Rick's been up to, about Daryl moving into the woods to search for Rick, about how michonne went out everyday for months, searching for him. She conveniently leaves out that she was increasingly pregnant in those months, not knowing how to tell him that he has a son.
She tells him about Judith, how she's grown into a strong young woman, how she's exactly a mix of him and Carl. How brave she is and how she told Michonne to leave to find Rick. She tells him of the time she trusted somebody from the past and they kidnapped Judith, and that her and Daryl went through hell to get Jude back.
How Michonne couldn't bare to lose another piece of Rick.
Rick tells Michonne how he never stopped fighting to get back to them, but everytime he left, everytime he got close, the CRM came and stole him back.
Michonnes seen the soldiers, dead ones anyways. The only breathing one she came across was on his way out. Begging her to put him out of his misery. She did, in return for a map, and any information he could have about Rick.
She didn't get any. Just the map.

yayayayayy good morning !! howre youuu also yes the blonde is the monster lol they're from a manga called hikaru ga shinda natsu (the summer hikaru died) and it's like. a small town horror story that is HEAVILY queercoded (it used to be literally tagged as BL but the author changed their mind sigh.) anyway it's about hikaru (blond) and yoshiki (black hair) who're teenagers who live in this tiny town in japan and hikaru goes missing in the mountains for like a week and when he comes back he comes back wrong,, and only his best friend (yoshiki) can tell. cause it's little things, like he'll pronounce a word wrong or smth. so yoshiki confronts him and "hikaru" (putting the monster in quotes to distinguish between him and the guy who went missing) is like "uhhh yeah please don't tell anyone i don't wanna kill you" and yoshiki's like "uhhh well. whatever." cause basically the real hikaru is gone but yoshiki is the only one who knows and he's like 'i;d rather have this thing by my side than be all alone' and also "hikaru" straight up tells yoshiki he likes him. which kills me because "hikaru" has the same feelings/memories as hikaru. basically what happened was that hikaru went into the mountains to perform some kind of ritual(?) the men in his family have always done to atone for smth that happened centuries ago when they accidentally almost wiped out the population of the town (long story) and this mf tripped and fell and died because he got distracted cause he saw a tree that looked like a woman with a huge rack. lol. anyway "hikaru" found hikaru and sorta took over his body,,, and "hikaru" actually likes being human and he likes yoshiki. and also "hikaru" doesn't even know what he is. like he doesn't know if he's a ghoul or a god or a ghost or wtv. and like "hikaru" is sooo normal all the time you forget that he's actually a monster until something happens and he like. kills some old lady or attacks a friend or smth and it's sooo jarring. also yoshiki is implied to like hikaru. but it's unclear whether hikaru liked him. "hikaru" however? mans is literally yoshiki's dog. like yoshiki literally tries to kill him at some point and "hikaru"'s like 'fair. also do you want half of my literal insides.' and hikaru actually asked "hikaru" to keep yoshiki company when he was dying. and yoshiki is mostly glad to have "hikaru" by his side but also. how are you gonna get over your dead best friend who you have a crush on when their corpse is literally still walking around and talking to you and killing old ladies. and grrr i just love them i love them so much. "hikaru" is the golden retriever who is a literal bodysnatching monster and yoshiki is the black cat who just cannot catch a break. also there's like a lot of fucked up stuff in the town's history. also we do not know whether "hikaru"'s feelings for yoshiki are real or just remnants of hikaru's feelings and it's killing me omg. idk if we'll ever find out cause the author has been backpedaling on the gay stuff but. yeah i've only read the first 4 volumes cause those are the only ones that are available here the rest isn't translated yet. also they're getting an anime yippeee sorry for the rant i just. i loev them sm
that sounds so interesting omg hello i love that.....
