still is the proudest fic i've ever written. very studio ghibli (according to @/jeongwins) and also very movie-like. @/orochxi melodramas got me in the feels to write this but this is more wholesome that viv's memento mori-coded fics lmao... fun fact: this is almost a nct chenle fic inspired by parasite (2019) hence the fish-out-of-water scenario

definitely my favorite character-building-wise. the fact that i have to figure out not only mc + taehyun but also the sisters, their partners, and the sisters' parents' characteristics here is so complicated yet fun, especially how intricate it is. also currently my longest one-shot i've written (52k) that tumblr hates it so much, it has to be divided into two :") (also, this is one of @/boba-beom's fav fics. i've successfully infected her with 80s/90s songs hehehe) + istg mc here is a definite lux lisbon if she live in 90s instead of the 70s, complete with the chainsmoking and her taste in 90s alt songs

My first tattoo is a pink and purple Wayfinder from Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep on my wrist (because BBS is my fav Kingdom Hearts game and Xigbar/Braig used to be my fav character until a certain plot twist in KH3 that fucked up 12 years of stanning.) I haven't completely lost hope, but depending on where the games go, I just. Might get it modified or redone or touched-up or expanded. We'll see.

I got it in 2019 during my first burnout to remind myself that I belong to myself and my body is mine and only mine, so I guess it's something between a self-healing and a trans thing. I don't even know anymore. Anyway, I don't regret it, it still looks nice, but since I don't know where I'm going with it, I won't take a pic for now.

I got my second one in 2021. I've been a fan of Resident Evil ever since I was 12 years old (yes, I know, I was too young, but this was before I could piss off people on the internet by sliding into adult spaces as a kid), and while I kind of lost interest in the franchise for a while and while I HATED 7 (yes, I know. Unpopular opinion), 8 dragged me back. I commissioned a friend for the design because while I knew what I wanted - Umbrella, Steampunk, the Heisenberg logo) I'm not an artist.

Anyway, this is the finished piece:

Since my tattoo artist fucked up a bunch of things, it's very much faded already and looks like it's like 10 years old instead of 2 already, sigh sigh, and I'll have to get it re-done soon-ish. Once I have the spare cash because this is gonna be expensive as fuck.

The third one was also designed by Vincent (no, for real, go give him money) and it's basically a glorified ship tattoo for The Quarry. I wanted something for the Travislaura working together + Lauramax reunion + Travislaura killing each other achievements, and I told Vincent I wanted it with the base of the broken mirror shards and the flowers being mirrored in them while needle and thread and hold everything loosely together. It's gorgeous, and I love it a lot. I'm very unashamed about wearing it on my chest because literally nobody gets that it's a ship tattoo until I tell them lmao

I got it last November.

Once we clean up the Resident Evil tattoo, my studio and I will also expand the Quarry one and make them look like they belong together. Which means we will make sure to give them both a water colour background blending from my left shoulder (reddish-brown/rust coloured RE tattoo) to my chest (blue and purple hues for the Quarry), we will also add a few more smaller mirror shards to my shoulder.

And. Well. Now there's the 4 birds. I initially only had a mock-up picture from the internet, but I asked my spouse to trace them off an ingame screenshot. I'm very glad we did that lmao because the mock-up would have looked way worse than what I have now. Like. I was... hoping it would look halfway okay. I had never believed it would look just fucking incredible. It's probably gonna peel in a day or two already, it's healing perfectly!

........................I want more tattoos. I grew up with games. And books. But it's mostly games that made me feel and fall in love with them. So it's gonna be more game tattoos.

Do I ship it: I do not. (Tim Allen AHUUUAHH?) But on a single day of the year my aversion to it lessens and I'm able to retweet art of them kinda smooching so my tolerance is overall getting better, maybe? lol

Why don't I: There are many factors... I like mutually destructive toxic mess ships, right? We've established that. But I don't like ships in which one person is doing all the hurting and the other person ends up, uh. Like XXC did. "But DJ I thought you were the fixit king" I am! It's just not exactly appealing to me, and the other big factor as to why is that I just... Never really saw them that way. Like even removing their canon storyline and only leaving their dynamic, which removed from context is lovely don't get me wrong, it never registered as romantic. It registered as XXC looking out for his goofy little brother, you know? I dunno. There's nothing there for me, sorry. "But DJ the devotion" yeah. There are many ways to love someone. Even if that were romantic, it's too onesided for me.

What would have made me like it: If they actually liked each other LMAO I have no issue with the thought of them loving each other, just not romantically! Outside of canon they're pretty much cemented as family in my brain, though very rarely I'll maybe entertain the idea of some sort of QPP dynamic but then it slingshots right back into family again. Just friends who really love each other and tried to do the do only to find out they don't see each other that way is the furthest I'm willing to go for them and this is a HUGE leap from where I was a year ago LOL

A positive: I appreciate that a lot of people just really want them to love each other. Maybe try and find some healing in all the mess. I get what that's like.

Do I ship it: I'm in the process of being converted, we will see how it goes! Kind of sucks this game doesn't have a maybe option so I'll make up the questions myself

What's drawing me to it: I, like you, was originally like "naur Song Lan has his man already thanks, and after he fixes him he's going to bed", but one of my close friends made the very good point that just because he's on a quest doesn't mean he can't be loved on the side, too! So I'd like to see Song Lan get loved on, and Lan Xichen deserves this, too, and I think stories about processing grief are very potent

Things I like about it: It seems this ship is about healing oneself and each other, and I'm a big fan of that! Both characters also complement each other well, with each having characteristics of someone the other has loved before (i.e. NMJ's righteousness, XXC's gentle energy). I also think canon gave them really sad endings, and in LXC's case it's a bit of a bitter one, too. SL's is at least bittersweet so sharing the joy is nice 🥺

What would seal the deal: Strong characterization aligned with my view of the characters! Being in character goes a long way for me, so if you've got them down pat, then I'll be more likely to give it a chance. If you add that they've both been in love before and that they're not looking for a replacement then we're set! (:

You know, something i like about lady dimitrescu? something I see nowhere and is a big part of her character? she's a massive (heh) hypocrite.

Calls Heisenberg a child? Argues with him just like one, writes in her diary about him like one too, all petty and jealous (which lol bc she IS miranda's fav).

*4 hours ago happily assisted in the dismembering of someone else's baby daughter; not to even mention the countless daughters of villagers she implanted with cadou (and failed) or turned into wine, which also her 'daughters' were the daughters of villagers successfully implanted*

*berates and sends another of her daughters (cassandra) to kill the killer of her other daughter (bela); is surprised and angry he also kills her too*

I also love that she lies to miranda (about wanting the ceremony during the call), and to Ethan ('all this for a child that isn't even here') to set up the whole 'surprise! your baby is in jars :D' later in the game. All that adds a lot to her, imo + her loving to torture people just bc + hot big vamp mother (bc if she looked like Marguerite...)

About the Spanish version: the Spanish used is ofc the one from Spain so I have to remind myself the differences in meaning of a good number of words (I'm from Latin America, specif really down south of the continent) for example the one that always gets me is that 'coger' in Spain is 'to grab; to take; to hold' while down here it means 'to f*ck; vulgar for intercourse' lmao

Yeah, I don't understand the woobification of villains... like if you want to write an AU where that happens, go all ahead, but claiming it's canon that the villains are poow wittwe victims that aren't as bad as they seem... That's not the point of their existence, pal. Villains are made to be bad. Sometimes they're understandable, tragic, redeemable... but their actions are bad. And since they're fictional, we are MEANT to enjoy them. We are SUPPOSED to like them doing bad stuff, otherwise it's just sweet fluff. And Resident Evil is not sweet fluff. It's horror, and most of the time horror needs villains that do bad and despicable shit. When a writer writes something, they're supposed to enjoy every little bit of their story. Including their villains. If the villain is just there to be bad and a hurdle to the protagonist's story, that shows in their shallow character. If the writer invests in their villains, you end up with fully fledged, deep and interesting villains... and people on the internet who don't understand this entire concept and think it's their god-given duty to defend those villains and every single one of their actions. But that's not the writer's fault.

The thing about Lady D's daughters... Markiplier, in his first playthrough, even made a comment about how they're not technically her daughters since it's more like a kidnapping situation... I mean she literally picked up three almost-dead women (did she kill them herself, even?) and turned them into blank slates who saw her as a mother. Markiplier, aka one of the biggest Lady D simps out there. Even he could see how messed up the whole situation was, acknowledged it, and at the same time shamelessly simped for her. Because he understood that we are supposed to like her in the story, even though we would not condone her actions in real life.

Dimitrescu's diary is a legit diamond. She acts all classy and "mature" and then she goes and writes "UGH why can't everybody see how I'm better than everyone! I'm gonna go drink my wine that's made out of the blood of my victims!"

Like, look, sometimes you have to respect the aesthetic, you know? There's been a multitude of villains who say they'll do stuff with the blood of their enemies as a trophy... Dimitrescu refines it and drinks it. And if that's not aesthetic idk what is. It's horrifying, but it's goth and classy af. Not just that she drinks it, but that she also refines it into fine wine before she does.

But of course, like any villain, she sees herself as the hero of her story. She's a big, beautiful, powerful, near immortal woman, with all the other human-things just mere toys and food for her. Of course she thinks it's her right to torture, kill them, and drink their blood. But I think it's not just that much of a hypocrisy, more like her inability to sympathize. At first, before Ethan kills Bela, she was perfectly fine with torturing him and toying him, keeping him alive. When she sees that Bela is dead, she turns full-on homicidal, even asking Cassandra to "stop with the games" and kill him on sight. If she had just a bit of sympathy, she would've understood Ethan from the first moment - he was trying to look for his daughter, and they were keeping him away from her. Why is it okay for Lady D to turn homicidal, but it's not if Ethan does (in self defense, even)?

And the "How dare you talk about saving your daughter, when you've murdered mine?" thing hit me even on the first gameplay I watched... like I was like ok you loved your daughters and you're hurting but they were grown ass women who were ACTIVELY ATTACKING Ethan. Rose is a defenseless baby whose dismemberment YOU assisted in and then kept her part away from her father, then tortured him and tried to kill him.

When not controlled by the player, Ethan never attacks someone who hasn't attacked first (aside from the animals, but that's completely optional and ymmv about how wrong it is to kill animals for food). Even when you're close to friendly NPCs, like Elena and her father, the Duke, or the ("friendly") old hag, the game doesn't let you attack or even aim at them - because Ethan is not supposed to go murder hobo mode. He lowers his weapon when he hallucinates Mia, and when after Heisenberg's boss fight Miranda appears as her, he once again lowers it, only raising it when he's certain it's not the real Mia, but Miranda taunting him. All of that is specifically put there to show that even though Ethan will shoot to kill anyone who's attacking him, he won't do the same for defenseless people who haven't harmed him.

Yet Lady D thinks of him as a monster, because he killed her precious daughters... but he's not allowed to be angry at her after what she did (or allowed to happen) to Rose, or even what she WANTED to do to him in the first place. She was putting up a case to have Ethan by herself to torture, during the Four Lords Meeting scene, before Ethan had done anything to her or her daughters. She wanted to torture him for hew own fun, and felt justified in wanting to do so. When she saw Ethan was killing her daughters, she felt even more entitled to it. I've always wondered how many differences there are there between European Spanish and Latin American Spanish, and if there are any difficulties or misunderstandings when you communicate with each other. The closest I've got for comparison is Greek and Cypriot... and it's not the same because in Cyprus, in the TV news and other "official" stuff they speak with a Greek accent, so the grand majority of Cypriots can switch to a Greek accent... and most of the Cypriots I've met, when talking to each other would talk as they would normally, but once a Greek enters into the discussion they change their accents and speaking mannerisms to Greek. I can understand most Cypriot, to be honest, but if they're talking fast or if they're using too many Cypriot words I can get lost. Still, it's easy because it's super close, it's an easy holiday destination, Cypriots study/work in Greece and (fewer, but still) Greeks study/work in Cyprus, and Cyprus even plays most Greek TV shows. So I wonder for Spanish, what's it like between one relatively small country in Europe and almost an entire continent across the Atlantic, and how many more differences there are XD

Similarly to what you said in the end, there's a Greek singer who is super popular here, whose last name in Cypriot means "bird poop" XD It's honestly so interesting to me how the same language changes and adapts in different places.

Laps up the attention, but it doesn't really go to his head

Powers: self replication, super speed, levitation

His powers took a while to properly manifest, which left him feeling isolated as a teen

Was pretty lost until Ukai helped train him

Got into a fight with Kageyama in an alleyway when he first met him MET HIM IN THE STREET, LMAO

Argues with Kageyama a lot at headquarters, but they work together like a dream when taking down bad guys

Has a heart of literal gold precious baby

Is contantly amazed when he helps significantly

Was inspired to become a hero by his idol, the Little Giant and it's his dream to inspire someone else 😭😭

Uses his replication ability to confuse the bad guys ULTIMATE DECOY

Levitates around the room when he's excited like Aang from ATLA, hahaha

Wears an orange, white and yellow suit with little wings on his heels cuuuute

I was tempted to give him fire/ice powers like Todoroki, but I didn't want to detract from Tanaka

Has problems focusing his powers, and can be quite turbulent in the heat of battle

Finds it hard to work well with others initially, but really makes an effort

Has hurt people close to him by accident before and never wants to do it again it would tear him apart

Becomes a power duo with Hinata when Ukai helps train them, even though they don't seem to get on well at first

Broody boi on the surface, but a cinnamon roll deep down

Wears a dark blue and deep purple suit that has fins to assist in underwater escapades which are his forte

Freezes Hinata's feet to the floor when he pisses him off or anybody's feet, tbh

Can dodge almost anything because of his reflexes don't ever try to punch him. You'll look stupid

Is surprised by the number of people in his fan club especially the number of women asking to marry him??

Baits villains by insulting them and getting the better of them with his words it's hilarious

Comes up with good plans, but improvises well with whatever he's got

Probably wears suits over his spandex most of the time fancy shmancy

Is prepared to die to protect Yamaguchi waahhh

But he gradually becomes aware of how vital his powers can be, and learns to control them and make them as advantageous as possible

Is a highly important and valued member of the team

Soft bean that gets nervous and throws up before a fight

But he's hella determined and won't back down

Powers: laser vision, metal mimicry

The has-been hero who lost his enthusiasm for hero-ing and retired some years ago

Was really cool back in his hayday. Big hot-shot with a fan club

Has been working as a convenience store attendant to pay the bills and is bored out of his mind but refuses to admit it

Was convinced to get back in the game when he found Hinata and Kageyama fighting, both struggling with their abilities. He broke up the fight and agreed to coach them

Doesn't do much of the flashy hero stuff anymore, but will occasionally get stuck in when he's needed must protecc his children

Is only, like, ten years older than the other heroes, but they treat him like some fossilised sensei out of Natuto, or some shit

Tbf, he has the back problems of one 😭😭

Powers: power absorption

Transferred from being a hero to hero management after having having issues with the effects of his powers he has a conscience :(

He felt guilty and responsible for permanently taking the powers of others, even if they were criminals

It was like removing a piece of their souls it kind of broke him

These days, he makes sure nobody knows about his powers, so it can't be used against him

He helps in any other way possible

He would only use his powers again in dire circumstances he knows he'll eventually have to

Is generally chipper and good natured, though

If he was ever captured by a villain, they'd probably send him back because he talks too much omg, hahaha

Helps gather info for the team and direct them on missions and in fights

Gives bomb inspirational speeches ✊

lol i have the same train of thought. like on the one hand yeah, dan is the most obviously mentally ill and traumatized in the gang (they all are). on the other, can i give pb that much credit? on the third hand i don't have, they did a pretty good job with representation in ILITW, so maybe. this was another era in choices and everything. i don't really know if this was intended but i think it at the very least shows that noah sacrificing himself wasn't just the "too lazy to deal with trauma" trope

yeah diego is possibly one of my fave ever characters. i just relate so much to him and i love his storyline (happy face). i think getting attached to the characters really makes or breaks whether or not i join a piece of media's fandom and my attachment to diego (and really every character in endless summer) was a huge part of me wanting to write for it and stuff, even if it's just crack lol
