Idk how many people have played with multiple DM's but this a rule any ttrpg player needs to learn. Including if you're going from watching actual play to being a player. Ive had 4 long term DM's 3 I'm still playing with to this day and they are all vastly different. I'll call them C, R, J, and L.
J is an old school DM. He's been playing for decades, his style is combat heavy rules strong. He takes a great deal of time thinking through the actions of enemies so combat is realistic whether its fair or not. PC's are there to move the story along and as he uses a lot of prewritten modules character arcs are on you. He will absolutely put in stuff to have you advance them but you have to come to him first. You aren't going to randomly see a mysterious figure from you past but if you note you're going past your dead brothers grave he will happily work it into a session to make everyone bawl their eyes out.
R does short and sweet campaigns full of loveable NPC's and vivid world building. You are here for a good time not a long time so enjoy his wild world and let it suck you in.
L does long heavy RP games. His world is rich and detailed. Your PCs will be tied deeply into its very core and you'll experience everything on a very real human level.
C is the one I'm no longer playing with and honestly he was the DM whos style i liked the least. He was very invested in his world to the point it felt like a book we were railroaded on and thrived on player angst. I did have some fun stories with him but still it was a mixed bag.
All L, R and J are all excellent DMs who I respect deeply. I adore all of their games but if I went into L's game expecting extensive complex battles or J's game expecting to get to laugh a second NPCs I'd be disappointed. But it doesn't mean they arent all games I love playing and stories I'm glad I get to have a part in telling. You don't pick up a Steven King novel and complain that there's not enough romance and you don't pick up Jane Austen and complain there isn't enough action scenes. It's just different types of story told by different people and have different effects on you. In J's games I feel like our party is kicking ass and taking names because the combat is hard and risky so succeeding feels all the more rewarding. In R's games I get to experience an adventure with wacky characters and twists and turns that last lesson literally have me get out if my seat in shock. In L's games I get to experience a world through someone else's eyes in a very real sense. All those experiences are valuable and I love all of them, they're just different.
Making this post then going to bed.
Matt and Brennan have different styles of storytelling. That's it.
A lot of people are used to Brennan's style and it's great - Matt is not Brennan.
Matt has a different style that is just as equally amazing if you are willing to give yourself over to it the way you have with Brennan.
Instead of fighting against the changes Matt brings to the table because it's not something Brennan would do be it DND Rules, storytelling, or combat or whatever try and embrace them as something new and ask yourself what it does to the story. The actual story not just what you would do or what you would expect from Brennan. Please.
I think a lot of people will find they're pleasantly surprised by what they find. Again - it's not better or worse - just different.

C2 Spoilers
it drives me NUTS when people say that Taliesin and Matt decided together backstage to kill off Molly. It makes 0 sense and it's ??? just such an unnecessary rumor to spread. People on reddit often spout it like it's just a known fact. Like, as if Taliesin didn't famously complain about having to pull all nighters over a busy weekend to roll and conceptualize a new character cuz he had ZERO backup. As if Molly didn't JUST have a huge lore drop and was clearly building to be a major focus of the next branch of the story. As if Matt didn't have LOADS of lore and planning already done that he had to to redo and reconfigure to fit with the Tomb Takers going and exhuming Molly to continue their plans. Matt said he had this whole thing where Lucien was gonna show up in a different body and hunt down the M9 to kill Molly and take his old body back. He SAID that!
Idk why this drives me nuts. It just feels... almost disrespectful. Like. Y'all. Taliesin isn't a baby. He fucked up. It's okay. He made a dumb choice in the heat of the battle and doubled down and it got his character killed. Things escalated and there wasn't a healer and it's JUST as simple as that. Stop making shit up to justify something that only SEEMS LIKE IT'S ORDAINED because these people are talented story tellers. Blowing all the work they did to reconfigure the story and just HAND WAVING and being like "they planned it ahead of time" is just rude. If it all seems preplanned it's cuz Matt busted his patootie off and reweaved a frayed tapestry into a beautiful work. Happy accidents and all that. CMON.

People who are newer to FromSoft games tend to think that the best way to be rude to someone you just fought is to teabag them, but this is incorrect. If you teabag me I will simply think "ah what an immature dick" and move on.
However, if you do the gesture where you point down at the ground after fighting me, I will consider it a horrendous slight against my entire being and all I hold dear, and will simmer with rage while praying for your swift demise for the rest of the day. It's truly the most powerful and grievous of insults, and will make any player who's in the know fucking hate you.
Essentially, the teabagging is a "haha gottem" which is easy to brush off, while the point down is a firm "you suck at this game" and needless to say, it hits different.

Everytime the cr fandom gets genuinely toxic over a player choice I’m just violently reminded that the people posting these takes have never actually played dnd irl

Oof. Currently learning the hard way that safety tools in d&d are essential, no matter the premise, tone, or genre of the campaign and no matter who you're playing with.

"censor team names so fans of said team can't see"- holy fuck can we *please* stop with this "advice" already? not only does it not actually work, it actually makes it even harder for people for folks to avoid stuff they don't wanna see (seriously; filtering the word "panthers" isn't going to block the word "p***thers")

is there a way to build up my hive myself? my server player (human) is holding my progression hostage because i was an 'insensitive jackass' and id rather not resort to physical construction work if i can help it
I was just about to make a joke about grabbing some planks, a hammer, and nails, but you cut me off. You know me well, random Troll.
And to answer your question, yes. Your Client CD erases itself when it registers you, but the Server CD is re-usable, allowing one player to be Server to multiple Clients. Unfortunately, one cannot be one's own Server player. It's like plugging an extension cord into itself, the game doesn't recognize it as a valid action (unless it's a Solo Session in which case play ball). However, some players do end up being their own Server player. This is because their old Server player died, and they took their Sprite Pendant. The Sprite Pendant acts as a player ID, and confers all permissions and duties, including Server privileges/responsibilities.
Obviously, I'm not suggesting you kill your Server player and take their Sprite Pendant, because I'm not an idiot and neither are you. I am also not suggesting you steal or even touch another person's Sprite Pendant, because this causes massive issues, and you deserve to get punched for pulling stunts like that. I instead lay out a few options open to you.
Ask another player to insert their Server Disc and become your Server. Two Servers, hoky smokes. Unless your old Server starts undoing changes, in which case try the next step.
Pull favors down the Möbius Reach Around (also known as the Chain of Stupidity, also known as the Server/Client Conga) and make your Server player's Server stop Servering them. That'll teach them. Unless you are actually in the wrong and nobody wants to help you resolve this issue, in which case try the next step.
Fix your own interpersonal issues, I am not your god damn mommy. If you actually want a mommy who will help you, her name is gentlemanMannerism, and she wrote the Sburb Etiquette FAQ, which will help you solve this catastrophic issue. If you are actually not in the wrong, you can send them the Etiquette FAQ, and maybe read it together.

This is one great reason why there's no such thing as tag policing.
People can and should tag posts whatever they want. If you're whining about someone tagging something wrong or with a "wrong" character name, don't be. Stop intruding on someone else's business.
Tags in reblogs are not about the original post, they're about someone else categorizing stuff on THEIR blog for THEIR purposes.
how to find literally any post on a blog in seconds (on desktop)
there are so many posts about ~tumblr is so broken, you can’t find any post on your own blog, it’s impossible, bluhrblub~
I am here to tell you otherwise! it is in fact INCREDIBLY easy to find a post on a blog if you’re on desktop/browser and you know what you’re doing:
url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant. every single post, every single time. in chronological order starting with the most recent post. note: it will not find #croissants or that time you made the typo #croidnssants. for a tag with multiple words, it’s just /tagged/my-croissant and it will show you everything with the exact phrase #my croissant
url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant/chrono will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the exact phrase #croissant, but it will show them in reverse order with the oldest first
url.tumblr.com/search/croissant isn’t as perfect at finding everything, but it’s generally loads better than the search on mobile. it will find a good array of posts that have the word croissant in them somewhere. could be in the body of the post (op captioned it “look at my croissant”) or in the tags (#man I want a croissant). it won’t necessarily find EVERYTHING like /tagged/ does, but I find it’s still more reliable than search on mobile. you can sometimes even find posts by a specific user by searching their url. also, unlike whatever random assortment tumblr mobile pulls up, it will still show them in a more logically chronological order
url.tumblr.com/day/2020/11/05 will show you every post on the blog from november 5th, 2020, in case you’re taking a break from croissants to look for destiel election memes
url.tumblr.com/archive/ is search paradise. easily go to a particular month and see all posts as thumbnails! search by post type! search by tags but as thumbnails now
url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio will show you every audio post on your blog (you can also filter by other post types). sometimes a little imperfect if you’re looking for a video when the op embedded the video in a text post instead of posting as a video post, etc
url.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/croissant will show you EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant, but it will show you them in the archive thumbnail view divided by months. very useful if you’re looking for a specific picture of a croissant that was reblogged 6 months ago and want to be able to scan for it quickly
url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio/tagged/croissant will show you every audio post tagged with the specific phrase #croissant (you can also filter by photo or text instead, because I don’t know why you have audio posts tagged croissant)
the tag system on desktop tumblr is GENUINELY amazing for searching within a specific blog!
caveat: this assumes a person HAS a desktop theme (or “custom theme”) enabled. a “custom theme” is url.tumblr.com, as opposed to tumblr.com/url. I’ve heard you have to opt-into the former now, when it used to be the default, so not everyone HAS a custom theme where you can use all those neat url tricks.
Tumblr media
if the person doesn’t have a “custom theme” enabled, you’re beholden to the search bar. still, I’ve found the search bar on tumblr.com/url is WAY more reliable than search on mobile. for starters, it tends to bring posts up in a sensible order, instead of dredging up random posts from 2013 before anything else
if you’re on mobile, I’m sorry. godspeed and good luck finding anything. (my one tip is that if you’re able to click ON a tag rather than go through the search bar, you’ll have better luck. if your mutual has recently reblogged a post tagged #croissant, you can click #croissant and it’ll bring up everything tagged #croissant just like /tagged/croissant. but if there’s no readily available tag to click on, you have to rely on the mobile search bar and its weird bizarre whims)

theres another essay i have somewhere deep within me abt rook's attitude toward authority figures & how his overfamiliarity with vil & leona (a movie star & a prince) imply this aspect of him might also have different pre-canon OR imply something about his self-image but that's for another day
