"Platonic" refers to Plato's idea that we recognize different objects as the same type of thing because there is a universal "ideal object". You could point at a dozen weird lamps and still identify them as lamps because they all share a common quality/essence with the true/default/perfect/Platonic lamp. All dogs are recognizably dogs because they share a trait with the Platonic dog, etc.

"Platonic love" refers to the the truest, most ideal love, of which other types of love - romantic, familial, aesthetic - are mere shadows.

(tangent: Plato was the original "we're living in a simulation!" philosophy nut, and a lot of his ideas kinda stem from that)

Fell in love with the feral chickens of Hawai'i when I was studying Marine Biology there. I know it's an ecological and social clusterfuck, but the individual birds I got to know there were gorgeous animals with heaps of personality and were generally a balm on my soul during some of the worst mental health of my life.

I can barely begin to express how much the course of my life has been altered because of a 40 minute highlight video done by @jelloapocalypse and friends riffing over a 20 year old sky pirate game.

I made an off-handed comment after watching it together with two of my longtime friends, about how much I wish I had what Vyrsa had, and one of those friends STRAIGHT-UP TELLS ME that her and her wife have been crushing on me for a while.

The feeling was mutual, though I'd been of course hesitant to even hint at it.

Anyway now a few months later, we're a thruple, and we decided to honor the genesis of our relationship by cosplaying as the trio that made it a reality for my 30th birthday!

Very specific type of purgatory is getting into a new show/game/series/etc and finding out it has does have a real, vibrant fandom!

Unfortunatally the fandom is somehow entirely dedicated to what were by far the least interesting parts of the thing, and show little to no interest in what you actually liked about it.

This goes from purgatory to a circle of hell if it's an ongoing release and you can see the thing start engaging with and being shaped by the fandom.

Currently obsessed with the concept of mutual and acknowledged hanahaki. Like two people who both have hanahaki for each other, and who both know about it, who both know that the other loves them and still aren’t cured.

The flowers stay, not because their love isn’t reciprocated, but because they don’t belive in it, or because its temporary, because the other deserves better, because they have complicated history, because they both already have significant others, perhaps the love isn’t enough because they both can’t put that love first, maybe their ideals and lotalties come first for both. Its not unrequited love, but its not quite enough.

really really really tired of asoiaf (but lbr mostly hotd) fans who keeping whining about how ‘ugly’ the actor playing whichever of their faves is, or getting up in arms at the very idea that someone who looks like anything besides AI wank material could be cast as a targaryen etc like ok then just leave lol. it’s a book series that intentionally includes ugly characters and their experiences of ugliness and if you are that disturbed by the thought of even an ordinary looking person playing a fictional character in a tv show then go somewhere else bc clearly u do not like the material you just want something to get off to
