Imagine Solangelo in a Price/servent AU

•So Nico is a prince, the son of King Hades

•Lets pretend it’s modern day, but in a world where the old English Monarchy system is universal and the kings and queens actually have power

•And arranged marriages are still a thing

•Nico is engaged to Princess Reyna from another province

•(Jason and Percy are also royalty and are familier with Nico cuz of royal balls and shit)

•So Nico gets injured really badly and has to go to the infirmary where he befriends the grumpy medical assistant (Will)

•And after Nico is healed he keep finding excuses to go visit Will cuz he’s kind of lonely

•They become really close and hang out a lot

• Eventually someone finds out they are friends and tells Nico to stop fraternizing with the lower class

•Then after Nico’s birthday Hades starts preparing for Nico’s and Reynas wedding

•And Nico is freaking out a little bit because he’s only met this girl once or twice (and maybe is scared to admit that he might have a little crush on Will)

•So Reyna arrives at the palace with her army of servents and her royal family

• Turns out she and Nico get along really well and become good friends (although Will is still his best friend)

•But just before the wedding Nico gets in a really horrible accident and has to stay in bed for like a month or two, so they postpone it

•And who does Nico chose to be his personal assistant? Will, of course

•So as Nico is recovering they slowly fall in love

•Both of them are scared to admit anything, Will because he thinks Nico will hate him and exile him for being a freak. Nico’s scared because his father won’t like it and he’s supposed to marry a woman to have heirs

•So they go on in awkward flirting until the day before the wedding

•And they’re saying their goodbyes (cuz Nico is going to have to go live in his own castle with Reyna until he becomes king)

•So Nico is like “fuck it” and just grabs Will and kisses him and they kiss until they hear someone coming to get Nico for the wedding and they have to say goodbye

•And then it’s time for the wedding and Nico doesn’t really have any other choice to go through with it

•Just before the wedding Reyna is like “hey, I’m gay and in love with this girl and I saw you kiss Will but I won’t tell anyone”

•And Nico is like “well, what can we do we’ve gotta get married”

• So they go to Hades and tell him “call off the wedding, we’re gay”

•And Hades is like, “shit, it’s too late. You guys gotta get married, but you don’t have to have kids or even live together. I’ll let you be with whoever you want as long as you keep it a secret and occasionally pose for the press”

• And Nico and Reyna are like “cool beans” and they get married and move to a castle and Will gets to date Nico and everyone is happy

Nico's Friendships... And Reynico (as Reyna and Nico aka as friends and pseudo-siblings)

I’ve always been a fan of platonic friendships, but I’ve never loved a platonic ship more than I do Reynico. Simply because both of them found characters that they have always been looking for in each other - and it wasn’t even the romantic love that they found with each other, but a simpler - though still as unconditional - familial love. To start with, I think that out of everyone that had been Nico’s friend (and lowkey even family member), it was Reyna who truly gave him unconditional affection. I think that you can divide people’s reaction towards Nico within the two camps. From Camp Half-Blood - Percy and Annabeth especially - people adored Nico, but it felt like there were times that it was mostly because of guilt - because his sister died and they knew and weren’t able to prevent it. They love Nico as a little brother, too, somehow, but there were always tints of pity and concern and I think that Nico felt it too. The other remaining campers were either scared or Nico pushed them away (though this dynamic might have changed after BOO). On the other hand, after the reveal that he was someone who traveled between the Greek and Roman camp, the people from Camp Jupiter were distrustful at best (Jason) or just… Scared of him (the rest sans Reyna and Hazel). I find it especially compelling to think that even while Jason - who I personally think was very big-hearted - was doubtful of Nico at first, instead of having the same feeling, Reyna felt even more trusting of Nico because of this circumstance. And throughout their journey with the Coach, I think that it was a very pivotal point in both Nico’s and Reyna’s development as individuals. And that they grew more during their time with each other more than they had with anyone else in the book. Both Reyna and Nico learned how to open up to each other - to trust an individual who would never leave you even if you find each other’s deepest, darkest secret. In, BOO, at first, Reyna knew Nico simply as someone who wasn’t easy to read, someone whose motives are unclear, and someone whose incredibly powerful. Since Nico had a time where he was the Ambassador of Pluto, the people of the Roman Camp surely didn’t see him as the pitiful child that might have been his image in the Greek Camp. And I think that in the back of Reyna’s mind, she thinks that Nico’s only just that - powerful. But then, by sharing their powers, she was able to feel some of his anguish. And then everything she knew of the younger boy was immediately thrown away. Nico di Angelo had held anguish that she’d never felt before - was someone that had even greater pain than an entire legion that she commanded. And even despite all of this, the boy still weaved on - and tries his best to fulfill the mission that he took up. That’s when the image of Nico went from someone simply strong went to someone completely amazing in Reyna’s mind. That’s also around the time that she began to feel more empathetic and fonder of the boy she was traveling with. It also must have taken her by surprise when Nico himself decided to open her up. And I think that she wasn’t only pleasantly surprised, but also genuinely happy to have someone to talk to about her past. And more than anything else, she probably didn’t realize until that time, that out of every individual that she knew, it was him that truly get her - that it was him who managed to make her speak up about thoughts that were only on her mind for so long. For Nico’s part, I think that he found both an older sister and a platonic soulmate with Reyna. By traveling with her, he began to realize a lot of things and learn even more things. He might have also enjoyed the time with her because the rest of the time, other people treat him as a ticking time bomb. I think there are three most stand out events that he shared with Reyna. The first one was when the two of them began sharing things they would never have shared with anyone else. The things that they didn’t know they can share with anyone else. And the fact that it was Nico who shared first - if only to make Reyna share her thoughts too - was definitely integral in making him a better person who knows how to spill his thoughts too. The second part was after he ghosted Bryce - and also brought out a wave of his feelings and memories. After he woke up - and the story was narrated to him - he felt like both Coach and Reyna would abandon him - would look at him with pity or terror, just like how everyone else does when he shows even a small part of him. But they didn’t. Instead, the two of them understood him - and in their own ways, cheered him on. They made him know that they were his friends, and as friends, things like sharing your darkest secrets was alright. Even if you made a very powerful move, it was alright. And the third part was definitely when Reyna, who simply shook hands with everyone else, went and hug him in front of everyone - to show that Nico had also been a big part of the war’s victory. I think that Nico teared up, because in the back of his mind, he was still wondering if Reyna’s words from their trip was only pure lipservice. But here was Reyna, showing everyone else that Nico was special - a good kind of special. Reyna even told him that the two of them had two homes now, and I think Nico really liked that line. He found a sister in her - one that would keep her promise and do a lot of things to push him on. Speaking of sisters, I know that Hazel is his living sister and while Hazel does love Nico a lot - I think that at the same time, she owes a lot to Nico, too - her life - which is why there might be some imbalance there. But Reyna was someone who doesn’t owe anything to Nico - and she was neither scared of him or (initially) was pitying him. Anyway, this was long. But I really do love Reynico as a platonic familial ship and I would really love to see more of them in the next novels. If Rick Riordan is feeling generous, maybe we can even get special novels with this power duo, too.

I kind of miss the days when I was younger and knew so little about shipping that I would just read fics and see fanart of the characters not necessarily romantic but not necessarily friendship so I could just appreciate two people being kind and caring for each other whether it’s platonic or not.

Anyway when Reyna was on Circe's island, she learned to do hair and she's a pro at it, so she always does something cute with Nico's hair

If Nico doesn't hang out with Reyna, like once a week he gets so mad, he's like what is life anymore where the fuck is my sister

Reyna's also got some pretty clips and other jewelry from Circe's island and I've said before, Nico's a pigeon for jewelry and shiny stuff, so Reyna just gives it all to Nico

Both of them have a sweet tooth, so whenever they're together they just overdose on ice cream and cake and other desserts

They also eat really spicy stuff, because people at can't really handle their level of spicy, Reyna especially (Reyna: *eating the spiciest dish on the menu* THIS NEEDS MORE SPICE)

Also when I say that they can literally kill for each other, I mean they will. Kill anyone for each other it's insane

Reyna teaches him all sorts of tricks she's learned when she was with the pirates, better sparring skills, giving him ideas about what to do when he's in a specific situation, a lot of things

Anyway Nico's got a picture in his cabin in which Reyna is hugging him from behind and both of them are grinning and it's one of his favorite pictures ever
