I love Odysseus so much, my little guy with all the problems 🫶🫶
I tried drawing him differently this time, and this is my first time drawing Poseidon and Hermes, what do we think?
Don't tell anyone, but I didn't feel like drawing two eyes on any of them 😭😭

Achilles' horses: *positively sobbing over Patroclus, getting their manes drenched*
Me: Was no one going to tell me the horses in the Iliad could cry? I really had to read the book and figure that out myself?
Achilles' horses: "Yo, Achilles. You're going to die soon. Just an fyi."
Me: They talk!?!??!

How do you feel about the implications from Medusa that Poseidon uh- kinda raped Sally? I'm personally staring in disbelief.
i 100% did not get that vibe at all? i rewatched the scene and i'm looking at the transcript and:
Athena was everything to me. I worshipped her, I prayed to her, I made offerings...she never answered. Not even an omen to suggest she appreciated my love. I wasn't like you, sweetheart. I was you. I would have worshipped her that way for a lifetime....in silence. But then one day, another god came, and he broke that silence. Your father. The Sea God told me that he loved me; I felt as though he saw me in a way I had never felt seen before. But then Athena declared that I had embarrassed her and I needed to be punished. Not him. Me. ... The gods want you to believe that, that they are infallible. But they only want what all bullies want. They want us to blame ourselves for their own shortcomings.
that's medusa's story monologue and the only thing there that implies the rape story is the "...i needed to be punished. not him. me" but nothing else she says implies that...and considering they went with a different iteration of the myth her, i don't think that's what she was implying in any way (and especially because it's disney). she was more so saying that athena should have punished poseidon if she was mad at anyone, because he esentially took the attention that medusa was willingly giving to athena, and that's why athena was mad. in this case, athena's shortcoming was not accepting the love medusa gave her willingly, and then getting angry and punishing medusa when she placed it somewhere else.
You're mother and I, we're like sisters in a way. Targeted by the same monster. So I find myself feeling protective of you. A monster? My mom never talked about my dad that way.
Even here, any implication of that you could gather is in the "targeted by the same monster" which. i don't think is what we're supposed to gather, especially with the line percy says. because he's right. if that's what happened, then sally wouldn't have talked about poseidon the way she did; she wouldn't have been crying in the car at montauk; she wouldn't be wearing the matching pearl necklace. i think, in this iteration, what medusa meant by monster is a god. her whole thing here is trying to convince the trio that the gods are the real monsters because they don't care about what happens to anyone other than themselves
and then there's this line
And you, you could have shown your father what it means to stand up for someone you love.
she's saying that poseidon should've stood up for her because he said he loved her...but he didn't, and let her take the punishment---which, yeah, it's completely shitty that poseidon would've just let that happen to medusa, but it doesn't lend itself to thinking that he raped sally in the context of the show. like at all.
the whole medusa interaction is her trying to teach the gods a lesson---that they shouldn't be above everyone just because they're gods, that the trio just sees monsters where they should maybe see people with a story, people that their parents made that way, people they shouldn't hate just because they're told to, because if they do then they're no better than their parents. i think the show is really playing into the whole "the gods are shitty" thing that luke has going on (which i kind of really enjoy im ngl....im SO interested to see it if we get to tlo) and not making them out to be these perfect beings, because they're not. they're corrupt and shitty, but unfortunately they're better than the alternative. and medusa is simply pointing out that just because someone is a monster doesn't mean they're a monster, and just because someone is a god doesn't mean they're good (@ sally in ep 1).

After hearing so many people taking about the new Percy Jackson show, i decided to finally read the books.
I just finished the first one. I really needed a lighter story after reading so many heavy books for class.
One thing I loooved was Percy's voice, it absolutely read like a kid's voice. He had both the sassiness and sarcasm and maybe the overconfidence of a kid his age, while also being afraid and out of his depth throughout the whole story.
On that note, he kinda reminded me of Rue from The Hunger Games, he's just young brave and funny. I cannot stress enough how much I love his personality.
Also... Whats up with Hitler being Hades's implied son? I wonder where that's gonna go.
I know these books have been out for a long time now, and i don't think these reviews will get a big audience, but somehow I've managed to never learn a single thing about the plot lol. So if youre reading this, please don't tell me any spoilers, no matter how common knowledge they may seem to be

I feel like Rick could write an entire book only consisting of all the demigods that have been mentioned in canon (this includes side stories) the names of their mortal parents and why that god was attracted to them.

when i was a kid i really resented the fact that my mom kept forcing us to check out nonfiction books alongside our fantasy novels in order to "broaden our minds" and basically ensure we were learning Real Factsies(tm), but now that i'm older, if i don't go off and learn some Real Factsies(tm) every so often, then i'll end up finding my fictions dull and uninspired
#i guess i just also hated how kids' nonfiction tended to present itself. unless they were like those slim encyclopedias#with all the sleek pictures n glossy pages of diagrams n shit#bc i remember reading a nonfiction book abt seahorses for adults called 'poseidon's steed' in like fifth grade and loving it#adult nonfiction books (in my limited experience) tends to read more like storytelling except everything is real and has citations#also now that i'm an Adult(tm) with More Life Experience(tm)(tm) (this is a cue for my older mutuals to laugh at my precociousness or w/e)#i find it easier to connect to the text-- in this case a book abt a guy called paul otlet n his contributions to information science#which is a thing i am Very Much interested in bc the internet has spoiled me with its indexing and yet i love analog information#also it was right next to two volumes from the 60s detailing various historical book burnings#and indeed the intro talked abt how this man's life's work was handily destroyed by the nazis who thought he was cataloguing garbage#learning abt all the lil guys in the 20th century who fuckin loved organizing information n bitched abt there being information overload#they are So Real they would have looked at the modern internet n gone 'this is too much make wikipedia the main page'#花話#anyway i doubt i'd have appreciated reading so much had i not read fiction so avidly growing up#and i rebuke the idea that the fantasy novels taught me nothing at all bc stories teach us abt being people#and demonstrate experience better than a more academic n factual analysis/write-up or w/e#yes i do love to learn abt philosophy in its like. rigorous academic state or form or w/e.#but that's diff from seeing it in practice in the real world or in people's stories n how it Affects Things

I was telling my dad about a Greek myth I had just learnt. It was a summary of the story of Amymone which ends with Poseidon creating a river. My brother was eavesdropping on us.
Then this little shit has the audacity to tell me that Poseidon can’t create rivers.
2 things:
1. Poseidon just did
2. This child has never read a Greek myth. I’ve told him some and he’s eavesdropped on others, but he doesn’t know any beyond what I’ve told him. And he still tells me what a god can’t do.
TLDR: My brother eavesdropped on me and told me that Poseidon couldn’t create a river despite knowing less than the bare minimum about Greek mythology.

@trckstaer sent: "seems like we’re gonna be spending a lot of time together."  –  Percy ! from:  🐝  *  ―  𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐌𝐄𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒.
Tumblr media
The past week had been a disarming whirlwind of shocking revelation. Gods, monsters, demigods... And yet, this really took the cake. Daughter of Poseidon, seriously? Oh, by the way, your dad isn’t really your dad, and here’s your half brother. Great. Just, great.
She missed her dad now more than ever. Not the God who had just decided to sire her during a freaking barbecue dinner. Her real dad, Armand. The one who had raised and loved her all these years. But she also resented him and her mom, for lying to her all these years.
None of this was Percy’s fault, though. And it had to be super awkward for him too.
Tumblr media
“Yeah, seems like it,” she replied, fidgeting with the hem of her orange shirt, “I guess I’ll need to move my stuff from the Hermes cabin.”
The Poseidon cabin was nice, though. Smelled like the sea, and she had really missed that scent. It reminded her of her home, in France. “What’s that?” she asked, pointing at a big fountain on the opposite wall.

The night started off with soft rain falling from the sky on the top of the beach house. Montauk. It started quiet and not threatening. Being the Son of Poseidon it shouldn’t make him lay away at night in fear of the storm outside, right? He shouldn’t fear it. But since the dreams got heavier and he finally had something - someone to lose, it felt all a bit more threatening. His life was now not only weighting him down - threatening him - but also her. The girl in his arms that was unaware of everything that happened during summer.
He felt bad for not spending the holiday with her, but she also couldn’t accompany him. Being left to wonder what he was doing there. She knew Grover already and she listened to Percy talk about his friends there - like Annabeth, a girl he mentioned one time too much in her opinion (but she would never actually say that to him) or Tyson. She knew about the lake that was there and capture the flag, but everything else was a mystery to her.
“Why are you still awake?” Y/n asked, waking up in the middle of the night from her boyfriend shaking in fear of a lightning and thunder.
It wasn’t the first time they have slept in the same bed, often doing sleepovers on the weekends. And it definitely wasn’t the first time she woke up because of him. But when she asked for the reason it was always the same.
“Just a bad dream,” Percy muttered, rubbing her arm gently to assure her that it was all fine.
“Percy,” she said, pushing him further than before. Mostly she would just let it go, nod and give him a kiss before snuggling back into his side and fall asleep again. Assuring him that he was safe was her. But he feared that she wasn’t safe with him.
“What are you dreaming about?”
The questioned lingered on her mind for longer already but she finally spoke the words. She needed answers. Not just lame excuses as to why he had scratches down his skin or why he always carried a pen with him when he never even used it.
She needed answers and he knew that, but could he give them to her so easily without putting her in danger? He couldn’t, so what would he give her? What could he give her?
“You,” he answered. Y/n looked at him confused, leaning on her arms to look at him properly. Her fingers moving through his hair. “It’s always you and it never ends good. I don’t want whatever happens in my mind happen in reality too.”
“It won’t,” she assured him, laying her head in the crook of his neck, planting small kisses on his skin.
“What if it will?” He couldn’t keep the possibility of it all away from his mind. He couldn’t block out the pictures he saw when closing his eyes.
“They’re just dreams, Percy,” she said again.
“Maybe they’re not,” he argued back.
“Dreams can’t hurt you.” She took his face in her hands, forcing him to look at her. “I’m here. I’m fine. And as long as I’m with you I will be.”
Silence filled the room. She was right, partially. As long as she was with him nothing would happen to her. He was able to protect her, fight whatever would threaten her.
“Can you read to me?”
Y/n looked at him surprised but nodded nonetheless. Climbing out from under the covers to grab the book, which she would be reading to him whenever he asked, from her bag. The Odyssey. She was confused and taken back when he asked her the first time, taking the book from her shelve and telling her about his interest for Greek Mythology. That was the first night he stayed over at hers. Listening to her read the words written on the pages for him to better understand them.
Saving herself from the cold again by laying back down next to him, Percy rested his head on her chest like he always did. Her hand found it’s way into his hair and gently playing with a few strands. Percy would ask some questions about who was who again sometimes, making her giggle in embarrassment when she didn’t know herself and then they would try and recite which characters they still knew had which part in the story.
The thunder still followed the bright streak of light closely behind but it got less and when she felt him finally relax against her fully and she turned off the light all which was left was soft rain. Kissing the top of his head, she closed her own eyes, falling back into a deep slumber surrounded with her own dreams of him.
