Good Omens Fic Rec: Petrichor & Parchment

“Mr. Crowley, I presume?” Aziraphale asked in lieu of an introduction, which was not forthcoming. The guy hadn’t even removed his sunglasses. Oh God, he had a tattoo on his face. Aziraphale wasn’t one to judge, but… what kind of gardener had a snake tattoo on his face?

*Minor Spoilers* There are some fics that I can only describe as decadent. I can't wax poetic about it, it's just the phrase that I instantly associate with a story like this. This is a book restorer/gardener au. Aziraphale has just moved out to the country and hires Crowley to tame his new garden. They are both beautifully passionate about what they do, which turns out to be the exact same. They are both restorers. Not fixing, “It’s not fixing. They don’t need fixing. They need a bit of care and attention. Some delicate surgery and healing. Someone to care for them, revive them, rebuild them, reassure them. Put them back together and help them stay that way.” Aziraphale with his books, and Crowley with the neglected garden. And of course you know how else they can use those inherent traits of nurturing and compassion.

I love Aziraphale in this. He's not written silly or overly self conscious. He has insecurities and doubts of course, but he's confident in who he is and more importantly he loves who he is. He doesn't make excuses for his passion. The scene with the town vicar was a particular stand out for me. We don't know too much about Crowley. This story is more about what's happening in the now, not much backstory. But there are plenty of clues and a small explanation from Crowley that let's us piece together a lot of the story ourselves. The beauty of fanfiction is we're all so intimately aware of these characters it's effortless to read their body language and subtle clues. This story utilizes that well. Allowing us to fill in the gaps because it trusts us to pick up on those details. Crowley here is slightly shy and quieter than some authors write him. Well, okay amendment, he's shy and quiet OUTSIDE the bedroom. But it's an excellent take that really understands the core of who he is. Love that there is some miscommunication and insecurities in their new relationship but stays realistic and grounded. They're not going to run away from each other, they're going to stay and figure it out together.

This story is just so lush and beautiful. I want to live in it. It made my heart race with tension, and burn with the romance of it all. This is at home reading. There are a couple of explicit sex scenes, so don't be reading this one where someone could be peaking over your shoulder. Unless you're into that sort of thing I guess!

You know those Ikesen plant boys AU I’ve been making for a while? I went a little Extra and made fake screenshots of a farming game AU with those plant boys. 

The Nobu, Akechu, and Kanetsugu cheebs are made by Cybird. It’s for their 2023 April Fool thingy. You can go here to play (use phone browser, it won’t work on a PC). I made Hideyoshi and everyone else myself by copying the style.

I snuck in my fanmade character just for giggles. Kuki Yoshitaka is Motonari’s nemesis Nobu’s resident “pirate” minion and ship-builder, famous for his cannon-outfitted iron-plated warships :3 (you can see his non-pixel form here)

The farm and castle and town BGs made with various RPG Maker assets (but made in Photoshop), because I don’t want to manually draw them one by one. 

I made the fake farming logo based on the WTF logo Cybird themselves made for the “Ikemen Sen-farming” April Fool LMAO:

This is such an annoyingly untranslatable pun LMAO, so I had to go with “Farming Sengoku” for the lack of better words. 戦穀 is still pronounced “Sengoku”, it’s just that 穀 means “grains”.

It's about about a month or two old. It was supposed to be a normal length fic, but... It didn't end up growing even to 300 words

Isabela took a deep breath, no matter which time it was, it never was easy. 

Tweezers flickered in the pink light of her room. One twitch and the first spine was ripped out. Isabela showed a pillow into her mouth, burying her scream. Deleting prickles was painful, like a deep cut that damaged not only the surface, but also the cortex underneath the upper layer of her so-called skin. 

She plucked the tiny roots like eyebrows. Chewing on the pillow to bury her cries in her throat.

"It doesn't hurt." She assured her mother a thousand times. It hurt. More than anything. Good thing Mama was a tree, and they didn't feel pain from removing the leaves if they didn't break their brunches. "It even helps me so I won't prickle myself or anybody else."

She's good at lying.

Her skin pulled with the spines, fighting against the forceful removement. It's not natural for plants to lose their leaves. But Isabela has to. Abuela wants her to be perfect, and how can she be perfect with her prickly skin?

The water accumulated in her body, succulents do this a lot. And without a normal amount of spines, Isabela can barely evaporate it. Good thing nobody in the family is a cactus except for her. She can pretend that its normal, the desert plants don't need much liquid after all. 

Blood drips from where her leaves used to be, sliding down the knolled surface of her body.

Plant au!! I had the idea for this a couple years ago and really didn't do much with it. It's POTO+Little Shop of Horrors

The Daroga gave a half-smile and nodded rapidly. "I know what the problem is. He's hungry." The man picked up the plant pot and beckoned Christine to follow him behind the counter. "But I've been watering it," Christine said as she followed him. The Daroga placed the pot on a bench and placed a locked case next to it. He opened the case and pulled out a vial of red liquid. "Is that-?" "This plant needs more than just water," he explained. "They're carnivorous. They need blood to survive."

A little Eclipse design based off of @zuxverbemnn 's plant AU! I decided to base them off of a Poinsettia! Originally they were gonna be based off of a different flower, but uh... It didn't go so well... So have this instead!

The Eclipse variant of the Poinsettia, like Poinsettia's are in general, seem to be needy flowers that will die if literally anything goes wrong with them. They can only survive in very specific conditions. They also don't like being around other plants most of the time. While they typically stay in very specific environments so they don't die, they can root almost anywhere. They aren't picky about their dirt, for some reason....

During most of the year, the poinsettia looks like it's on it's death bed, as it's leaves are always droopy There also aren't many petals compared to the amount of leaves, like a wild poinsettia. But sometimes during the year, they have many petals, and the leaves don't look like they're about to fall off, much like the poinsettias you often see at Christmas time. This is about the only time they will appreciate being with other plants.

These flowers are known to not always be that trustworthy, and will often trick others into getting what the flower wants. On the bright side, it's never led to anything dangerous. Just inconvenient.

Au where Shen Jiu's ghost has been silently haunting Qing Jing Peak since Shen Yuan took over. And yeah he's pissed and hurt that everyone prefers the imposter but then Yue Qingyuan in the meeting says it would be better if he was as he was before and eh softens a bit

And he spends most of his time with Yue Qingyuan and sees him mourn in private because even though he doesn't know Shen Jiu has been replaced he knows his Xiao Jiu is gone

But he also spies on Shang Qinghua and the Imposter. Especially post immortal alliance conference and finds out about transmigration and the system and investigates MORE and finds the system

And Shen Jiu does was Shen Jiu does best and because of that when Shen Qingqiu is being accused left right and center in Jin Lan City an angry man with more then a passing resemblance to Shen Qingqiu shows up and says he didnt do any of that and couldn't get because he was too busy being sad and why are you believing a demon anyway? Leave his little brother alone you weirdos.

Shang Qinghua and Shen Qingqiu are the only ones to recognise him because that's the plant body! But that's not Shen Yuan! What the fuck!

Shen Jiu is having a lot of fun and it takes like 3 more seconds for Yue Qingyuan to recognise him

Anyway Shen Jiu lawyers them out of there and Cang Qiong is back home freaking out and ask him who he is:

Shen Jiu: i'm Shen Qingqiu's older brother

Liu Qingge: what's your name

Shen Jiu making deliberate eye contact with Shen Qingqiu: Shen Yuan

Shen Qingqiu: *faints*

*Minor Spoilers* This is a unique, but simple, take that works surprisingly well for our duo! In this human AU, Aziraphale and Crowley are both excruciatingly shy and anxious. It takes them months of silently feeding ducks at the park for them to even speak to each other! But this awkwardness is the charm of this story. It feels like the ultimate wish fulfillment relationship for anyone who struggles to connect with others. Their eccentricities fit perfectly together, and the way they eventually find they can be truly honest with each other is beautiful. They often call themselves cowards, years of abuse from others giving each a nasty inner critic, but it takes real bravery to be afraid and still push through. The way they interact with each other, and their dates especially, were so sickeningly romantic to me. My heart was a puddle of goo during this one. At the end of each of their interactions they review what they've learned with each other, and trust me, it'll have you screaming and crying and throwing up over how cute it is. They really understand each other, and to find someone who really sees you is the goal for us all, isn’t it? I'm very attached to this story. It's such a sweet and gentle romance that encourages us to be kinder to ourselves. The ultimate comfort fic!

Safe in public until towards the very end, but you will know when that's coming and it isn't very graphic.

Happy Birthday Hideyoshi~ <3 <3 

Plant AU is back! Similar theme as the Masa birthday picture I did before. Plant AU Ikesen/SLBP crossover. No plantnimals this time, though. With the text layout and stuff I thought it’d be too crowded. 

Legend says the three-coloured hanami dango and the uguisu mochi (the green blobs) are credited as Hideyoshi’s “invention”. Well, to be precise they’re “invented under Hideyoshi’s orders”. The uguisu one is kind of more "certified” than the dango one, but yeah. 

Also, honestly the historical uguisu mochi is brown, but I like the green-coloured modern version better.
