- he doesn’t understand romantic relationships in general, didn’t really know about them until much later in life (he was never really around couples)

- reyna was basically his only friend at camp jupiter and she’s also aroace-spec so they’re both confused when someone asks if they’re dating

“do you like reyna?” “of course, she’s my best friend.” “yeah but do you like like her?” “…i don’t see how that’s any different.” “like, would you want to date her?” “….what would that entail?”

- a few brave children of venus give him romance books and he unironically really enjoys them (even if he doesn’t totally get it)

- when he wakes up dating piper he just sorta accepts it and is like “this must be what romantic feelings are like!” but it’s actually just him experiencing having friends other than reyna

- he is never really able to distinguish between romantic and platonic feelings, but they’re substantial to him. all that matters to him is that he loves his friends, no matter what way that might be

- some of the people he meets are really shitty about it, saying he’s “broken” and he tries to ignore it but what if they’re right? and then one day he meets aphrodite and she smiles at him and assures him that he’s not broken or wrong, he just loves differently than most people

(greek philosophers identified six forms of love, including platonic and familial. i feel this would apply to aphrodite as well, considering she is literally the goddess of love)

(this is also making me think about aphrodite being protective of aspec folks alongside artemis)

i’ve seen a few people complain that annabeth hearing luke’s betrayal doesn’t make sense for her upcoming characterization of believing he’s not truly lost but doesn’t this??? make more sense than in the books??

in the books percy says luke poisoned him and she just believes him no hesitation because luke has “been bitter towards the gods for a long time” but luke is her family, and as much as she cares about percy, she just met him. having her hear luke’s admission, and his desperation to recruit percy makes her recognizing him as the traitor (which is something she does do in the books even if she tries to hope for better) much more believable.

and her still trying to hope that her brother, her friend, her family is still in there still makes sense. she heard his reasoning, she saw his face when she knocked his sword away. she knows the 14 year old boy she first met is still in there. but now i’m not expected to believe that she just accepts him being the traitor with nothing more than a pair of shoes and a scorpion sting.

i feel this just works better for that part of the plotline, because in the books she still knows he’s bad and that he’s working for kronos, but that doesn’t negate the five years she spent with him before all of that. and that’s going to be true in the show too.

I’m reading HOO for the first time, and…

I knew that Percy was unhinged in his books, but why does HOO becomes twice as crazy as soon as he enters the chat?

Like tlh was more or less sane, there were some parts, but mostly it was okay, but as soon as Percy comes into the book all of a sudden Ares is calling some girl ‘centurion shish kebab’ Percy’s casually roasting Hera and her son, actively trying to get Nico to tell him who he is, sending Romans into mass panic, oh and all of this is accompanied by Nico girlbossing roman house elves in the back.

thinking about jason’s scar. how he got it when he was two, and thalia was nine. how their mom didn’t take care of them. how thalia had to basically raise jason herself

do you think she was terrified when she saw him bleeding? do you think, at nine years old, she had to call an ambulance because beryl was too drunk?

how long do you think thalia looked for jason after beryl ‘lost’ him? do you think she sometimes saw a bit of jason in annabeth? do you think she eventually accepted that he must be dead? do you think it hurt her more than any monster ever could?

thinking about how they only met briefly a few times, on quests, before jason died. how thalia is a hunter and has to live without him again for possibly decades or centuries. how they never really got to be a family. how thalia had to mourn him not once, but twice.

just. thinking about the grace siblings.
