- he doesn’t understand romantic relationships in general, didn’t really know about them until much later in life (he was never really around couples)

- reyna was basically his only friend at camp jupiter and she’s also aroace-spec so they’re both confused when someone asks if they’re dating

“do you like reyna?” “of course, she’s my best friend.” “yeah but do you like like her?” “…i don’t see how that’s any different.” “like, would you want to date her?” “….what would that entail?”

- a few brave children of venus give him romance books and he unironically really enjoys them (even if he doesn’t totally get it)

- when he wakes up dating piper he just sorta accepts it and is like “this must be what romantic feelings are like!” but it’s actually just him experiencing having friends other than reyna

- he is never really able to distinguish between romantic and platonic feelings, but they’re substantial to him. all that matters to him is that he loves his friends, no matter what way that might be

- some of the people he meets are really shitty about it, saying he’s “broken” and he tries to ignore it but what if they’re right? and then one day he meets aphrodite and she smiles at him and assures him that he’s not broken or wrong, he just loves differently than most people

(greek philosophers identified six forms of love, including platonic and familial. i feel this would apply to aphrodite as well, considering she is literally the goddess of love)

(this is also making me think about aphrodite being protective of aspec folks alongside artemis)

oh yea speakin of sonknux. i think knux would want to get married.

i mean, we already know sonic Doesn't. he hates the concept of marriage, of being tied down to one person - or tied down at all. sure, he wouldnt mind the ceremony of it, but pmuch everything it stands for goes against everything he stands for.

but knux is a little more tradition-orientated. i think he'd find or be given knowledge over echidna marriage rites as a kid and spend the next month and a half daydreaming about him and sonic performing them together. being introduced to sonic's family as his future husband, the two cooking together and sharing recipes from their respect families as a sign of trust and a way of bonding. the actual marriage bit doesn't even require kissing, something he's still pretty sure sonic doesn't like (it doesnt mind its just rlly picky abt when where and why)

sonic sees marriage as a chain. knuckles sees it as nothing more than a promise - that they'll be together for as long as both are willing, and that they truly do love and care about each other.

maybe sonic would get how knux sees it, maybe he'd even be open to it, but right now he's got absolutely no interest in anything "more" than the relationship he's got with knux right now.

and that's entirely okay.

That episode is the main one though MK is also repulsed when the others try to tease him in 2x10 about him talking about a ~girl~

I'll also say that the negativity/genuine retching in Calabash is more about in love with me more than about Mei to me

People seem to take this and go "he's gay then" which like.

Anything that's used to gay code can also be ace coding so there is overlap. I get it

But people never even consider aroace coding if they can gay code instead and I wish they would

I don't see him being into Red Son At All. Since the S2 special Mei and Red Son get constant development together in large and small ways in a way that the show just isn't interested in doing with MK and Red Son. Like ship dragonfruit or not, Mei has a more important relationship with Red Son than MK does. End of S3 onward it's just... fact. They're not close, MK never really has chemistry with Red Son that way to me, and just. Yeah. "Get our friends out of the scroll" in ref to Red Son and his parents he's a friend he's just not a focus the way Mei is to MK or how he would be if MK was into him.

So if MK has repulsion to the opposite gender and romance at large and doesn't seem to be into anyone his own gender romantically speaking (the closest I could canonly see would be a celebrity crush on Monkey King but that's 1. A stretch and 2. Fandom wouldn't consider that with a ten foot pole since they decided to project a parent child relationship on them) then I'm like

Yeah he's aroace to me

Which is nice because he's an adult with a job who likes partying but doesn't have canon love interests/expresses repulsion both times it comes up

And while LMK has to not be overt, they code freenoodles and shadowpeach pretty clearly, so if they wanted MK to come off as liking someone in that way, they'd do it.

And they haven't.
