okay last one for the night but. honestly i really hate how the franchise has been using loyalty to Rick as a shield for so long. If Rick was involved in a project or not doesn't matter, especially not anymore.
ReadRiordan and the publishing for the franchise has been using this tactic for ages - they obscure if any writing related to the series wasn't written by Rick unless it's special circumstances. It's near impossible to find out who the ghostwriters are (Stephanie True Peters and Mary-Jane Knight). TSATS was promoted as the first time we got a non-Riordan (Rick or Haley) author working on one of the companion novels despite having seven already existing ghostwritten books in the series. The only reason Mark Oshiro was emphasized so heavily for TSATS was because they also work as a sensitivity reader for topics such as queer identity, and Rick had received backlash in the past for being a Straight Cis Old White Guy repeatedly falling into bad habits (that he hasn't broken out of) with certain characterizations that he kept doubling-down on or retconning into oblivion. The show emphasizes that Rick was involved, but the LA Times article brings into question exactly how much he was involved, and it doesn't even really matter either way. The ReadRiordan site actively avoids putting any writing credits on their articles (or art credits...) or anywhere on their site.
Practically the entire fandom unanimously agrees the musical - which had zero involvement from Rick - is the best adaptation of the series so far, including the TV show. Some of the best writing to come out of the series recently was the stuff ghostwritten by Stephanie True Peters (Camp Half-Blood Confidential, Camp Jupiter Classified, Nine from the Nine Worlds, etc). And yet when promotional stuff is posted about CHB:C, there's clearly coded language used to hide the fact that Rick himself didn't write it. Yes, that's how ghostwriters work, but at this point we should really stop pretending "Rick Riordan" isn't just a pen name for a group of authors like "Erin Hunter" and that Rick is actually writing everything in the series. I can easily look up and see which Animorphs books were ghostwritten, and who those authors were. I can find every "Erin Hunter" easily listed on official sites. And yet most people don't even know the Riordanverse franchise has ghostwriters at all.
And the franchise is still trying to use the "Tio/Uncle Rick" stuff. Author loyalty and marketing parasocial relationships isn't going to save the franchise when the author himself can't hold up his own original themes or even keep basic series bible details straight, and especially not if the editors are barely if at all doing their job. And please at least get a goddamn series bible by this point.

1) ignore that it’s 12am rn and im searching jason grace on twt for some reason 2) sorry to this persons post this is not directed at the op but
Tumblr media
unfortunately I don’t think it goes that deep..lol
riordan may be a writer that plans ahead but he’s notorious for bad follow thru. and he definitely did not think about creating any of the other seven kids until maybe the last book and even then I doubt. more and more my hoo ghostwriter theory grows too. like I had liked this post abt how frank’s opinion on nico drastically was different from book to book (accepting of him vs being afraid inexplicably later down the line) among other things
it made me recall how randomly in boo reyna was allegedly supposed to be fated with a god??? maybe that was when he was on the verge of cooking the apollo series or something cuz it was def supposed to be apollo (I didn’t read the series but I think that’s what was kinda happening) but then dropped it completely (thank god but why go there in the first place?)
im just bringing it all up bc tbh I don’t mind a little narrative zig zag that’s what makes things fun but to have dropped storylines sort of constantly or just half-ass stumble into plot lines dropped earlier and clearly just remembered (calypso) seems kinda cheap a bit. not to mention stuff like the dragged out tommy/hazel > hazel/leo thing feels about 70% way too much to lead to absolutely nothing. the biggest of these being jasiper breakup which I can critique their buildup/end forever versus a pretty small example like solangeo LMAOOO

Ok, hot take, but I genuinely don't ship Nico with anyone. Like, seriously, no one. Neither Percy, nor Will, nor Jason, not Leo. And if you think I ship him with some girl, I DON'T. What girl not related to Nico by family was actually close to him other than Reyna? And Reynico shippers just scare me lmao.
Idk maybe it's just because I personally never saw any awkward-teenage-romance type of conversations or internal monologue of Nico in any of the books regarding any of the boys whatsoever. I kid you not, I seriously thought (and still think) that Rick had never intended for Nico to like Percy during PJO and the first half of HoO. I feel like it's just something he made up while writing the Cupid scene to make it more, well, dramatic. As an author myself, I know exactly how it feels when ur writing ur manuscript and a brilliant idea related to that particular scene pops up, which leaves u wondering how to make it make sense with the rest of the story. And since there are speculations that Rick has ghostwriters, it seems a lot more suspicious about how we had not a single hint of Nico liking Percy anywhere before the Cupid scene.
I'm not gonna go into Solangelo, but I must say, Will is a pretty bland character. Solangelo has potential, I still think so, but Rick wasted basically all of it by trying to make Solangelo a cheap copy of Percabeth. He knows Solangelo is the second most popular ship among his fandom, so why not make it exactly like his all-time most popular ship? Because, come on, what good would it be to have a, idk, unique ship?

hi lori! what's the problem with the blood of olympus, i haven't reached it yet but im curious
it’s bad
i was going to leave it at that but like. generally those of us who had to wait years and years for the hoo books were very disappointed w them. to me the quality was very clearly declining with each book, there was a point where rick was coming out with two books a year so people (me lol) even started speculating he might have ghostwriters and that’s why the writing felt so off. house of hades to me was almost unbearable and blood of olympus was just boring, the final confrontation with gaea is lame, nothing interesting happens between the characters, the interesting that had been set up go nowhere, it just feels like an unfinished book and an unfinished series in general. pjo was not perfect but it feels so many miles ahead of hoo in terms of planning and sophistication in the choice of what happens, ya know what i mean?
one thing i have been thinking is perhaps we’d thought so much about it and waited so long for it that our perception was skewed. maybe if we’d read all the books in one go we as a collective wouldn’t have had such a negative reaction to heroes of olympus. i would tell you to keep reading, there are obviously a lot of people who still like them and have kept reading past boo and like the books who came after… me, personally, i am currently only interested in the first 5 pjo books, the 3 kane chronicles ones and (cautiously) the show

@aroaceleovaldez made a post about ghostwriting in rick's books recently, and the evidence seems prominent & explains a whole lot
thanks for letting me know!! I just read it and wow. I'm honestly a little surprised that there's no evidence to support the main series' post-pjo ghostwriting allegations lol (and that honestly reflects even more poorly on RR than if there were ghostwriters). I haven't even read the "confirmed" ghostwritten books (I tried to read the chb confidential but there was nothing I found worth my time and it still felt off so I gave up).
ghostwriters or not we can attribute the drop in quality after pjo as a combination of too much content at once, laziness, greed, and a lack of passion from RR now that he's a multi-millionaire and no longer a part of our reality (not to say that there were no problematic aspects of pjo because ofc there were). but idk the man so who knows

Alright here are my predictions which is almost everything but I’m gonna explain my reasoning.
Will happen: multiple of these go hand in hand so I’ll pair them up, as a warning.
-Lucie def writes cause Cassie said she’s mad at cordelia and writes something about how she’s a bad person or something (Hopefully I’m not making that up).
-I think Grace will have a private interrogation and Lucie will have a public trial bc the Clave hates Tessa.
-Thomas coming out and Thomastair canon go hand in hand to me, but also if one of them doesn’t happen I’ll fucking riot bc Thomas and Alastair deserve to be happy together and not hiding. But it will probs only be to those closest to them…
-Cordelia and James same thing but less about hiding and more about being honest.
-My long-held theory is that Tatiana has a personal vendetta against Gideon and will try to kill him but Gabriel will save him and die instead. Everyone thinks Gideon will die but it feels too predictable and also Barbra died.
-Based on the snippets, Ghostwriter feels canon already bc they already know they’re both in love w each other.
-Arianna are gonna make up or at least have a truce while Ariadne is staying at Anna’s and then they’ll rebuild the trust. Also Ari will pick the name definitely. It’s in a snippet.
-there will be loud arguments. It’s the end of a very stressful trilogy like there’s not way this won’t happen.
-same w Kit and an explosion. Probs while he’s solidifying the fire messages
-herongraystairs standing next to each other or looking longingly at each other or talking in hushed tones inevitable.
-Eugenia is gonna play a bigger role, hopefully on her own and in her relationship w Thomas
-foreshadowing for twp absolutely like they’re supposed to directly correlate
- sona is gonna have the baby if she AND/OR the baby dies, I’m gonna fucking cry tho.
-I think Cordelia will be able to bear Cortana again. BUT. I think she will either refuse to take it back from Alastair or “gift” it to him so it stays w the Carstairs. Which will either go to baby carstairs or if Thomastair adopt a child.
-the pjo reference made me lol and I’m putting it here simply bc I want it to happen. I’m not sold on it actually happening.
Okay, now for what I don’t think will happen:
- Charles almost died in the last book, I don’t think he’ll die. That’s how I feel about Kit too like they feel safe to me. Could be wrong but idk.
-But alas idk if gracetopher will be canon. Maybe in like an epilogue but idk how Cassie will fit in that development for it to actually be good and make sense in this book.
-Magnus walking in on herondaisy should happen but I kinda feel like it won’t just to break the spell. Like we’re expecting it so it won’t happen. This is the one I feel like I could definitely be wrong about tho.
-I don’t think Matthew is gonna die. That would be a shitty way to end his character and I don’t think Cassie would do that. Undead or underworld? Maybe, not really sold on that either. I also don’t think he’ll work through his addiction bc that takes time and I don’t think there will be enough room to properly develop that and also it causes drama for everyone. Maybe in an epilogue but I feel like he’s drinking in Paris and he won’t have time to detox w the plot.
-honestly this will probs happen too like magnus but when I was checking stuff off I was like “there’s absolutely no reason for either of these to happen” so we’ll see
If you read all this I love you ❤️

im too sick for this right now but i just found out there is in fact FOUR French-exclusive ghostwritten pjo companion books
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Percy Jackson et les Secrets de L'Olympe: (Percy Jackson & The Secrets of the Olympians)
"Zeus Contre Les Titans" (The Titanomachy), "Poséidon et Bellérophon" (Poseidon & Bellerophon), "Thésée le Légendaire" ("Theseus the Legendary"), and "Apollon et Artémis, Les Jumeaux Terribles" ("Apollo and Artemis, the Terrible Twins").
These are all essentially illustrated companion books going over various myths or collections of myths. And they're exclusively in French for some reason.

Could we all acknowledge that Percy's fatal flaw was kind of forgotten about by ToA? Like, it doesnt sound very loyal to just drop his relationship with Nico, who was willing to work on their friendship after confessing, and by extension the rest of the seven? Hell, both camps?
This!
I understand trying to avoid the stress and trauma the wars and everything has caused him, but cutting off everyone he fought so hard for? Even his closest friends, who he was willing to sacrifice his life for!?

I think almost every ship in books can, at some point be connected with Rewrite the Stars by Zac Efron and Zendaya and I don't know what to do whit that information.

can I say something. the way these three ended in apollos books really feel primed for a time skip solo novel about solely these three. no resolution for the trio that you begin a whole series with is insane
leo died and came back, jason died and hasn’t come back, piper hasn’t died at all. there’s no balance. thank god I’m a completionist.

thank you for tag @amchara !! <3 i loved reading through your answers :)
How many works do you have on ao3?
13, but most of them are drabbles
What’s your total ao3 word count?
32,369
What fandoms do you write for?
Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus, The Shadowhunter Chronicles
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Percy to the Rescue
Here Without You
Napkins and Notebooks
A Different Kind of Adventure
Your Lyrics have Arrived
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
It may take awhile, but if a comment is worthy of or necessitates a response, I will absolutely respond to it, yes <3
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Definitely Acceptance, but really it's so short that the whole thing is just an angsty ending for malec
What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably A Different Kind of Adventure. Percabeth figuring out life together brings me a special kind of joy.
Do you get hate on fics?
I haven't yet
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I hadn't, but one of my wips may or may not include smut... like I'm writing it, but we'll see if I have the confidence to publish it, you know? I honestly could not tell you what kind, though, given that I am quite new at this.
Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Not currently?? but I have in the past. I wrote one in high school that was simultaneously next gen Percy Jackson and Harry Potter, where percabeth's kid gets into Hogwarts in the same year as Albus and Scorpius and Rose.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think I'm really prolific or known enough for that to have happened yet lol
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, sir
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I haven't, but it seems like it would be fun! Honestly, it's probably just a matter of time lbr (@221bornottobe i'm looking at you)
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
Percabeth <3 ( but also sizzy)
What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
IVY!!! my beloved accursed fic that pulled me deep into my fairondale obsession despite originating as a ghostwriter endgame fic. If I ever do finish it, it will be as a very different fic than the one i began two years ago, which means that this story I had in my head will itself never be finished.
What are your writing strengths?
Can I crowd source this answer? Honestly, I'm not sure (this feels like a cop-out answer, but honestly I just have a hard time knowing what I'm good at)
What are your writing weaknesses?
Endings!!!! As you may be able to tell by the fact that my longest finished fic is under 2k.. I have been told by writing professors that I have weak endings, and now they scare me to write. Also.. spilling too much of what's in the pov character's head, I think. They work through things internally that may be better as a show-don't-tell thing, but my instinct is always to explain. There are other things, I'm sure..
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I think it can really help a fic when some dialogue or words are in another language, when it fits, obviously. Other than that, I don't really have any thoughts!
First fandom you wrote for?
Honestly, I think it might have been Ella Enchanted. Either that or Percy Jackson. I would have been 14. Before that, any writing was pretty much original, I think.
Favorite fic you’ve written?
Here Without You, hands down. It's not finished yet, but it's been my entire heart this whole year. It's made me feel more confident with writing fics that are a bit more long form (which I needed), it's helped me process things for myself and for Leo, and it's really everything I needed for his storyline. .. Though, I will say, runner up has to go to The Chronicles of Lena and Jules, the PJO self-insert fanfic that I wrote during chemistry class in 10th grade about my best friend and I, and that I would hand her installments of every day as we passed in the hall.. not because of the quality or the storyline, but for the mems <3
Tagging: @potato-jem @captain-jackson @berylgrace @timelesslords and whoever else wants to join in! (also @iminlovewithpercyjackson and @221bornottobe ik you both only have one fic up on ao3, so I didn't initially tag you, but feel free to go for it anyway :))
