Gradually mix in the flour until fully combined.

#YouButterBelieveIt: Butter Grill's Cheese Rolls are your new favorite treat!
If you’re a fan of Pinoy-style pastries, you’ve probably heard of Cheese Rolls. These soft and fluffy bread rolls stuffed with cheese have been a favorite among Filipinos for years. These yummy pastries are made using basically the same dough as another Filipino bakery classic: the ensaymada. The dough is soft, fluffy, and buttery, providing the perfect canvas for the sweet and salty combination…

a Filipino MC in WHB has so much comedic potential
Teaching Satan swear words in Tagalog, telling Michael about his sun halo and it's resemblance to the PH flag, informing everyone in Tartaros about a cake called "mamon"
AHAHAHAHA YESSSSSSS PINOY PRIDE LET'S FCKIN GOOOOOO 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
im sorry if that's kinda cringe but as a filipino i am obliged to do so 😭😭
Teaching Satan how to cuss not only in Filipino but also in sooooo many dialects just take your pick 😭 or you can hit him with the "oh those aren't swear words! they're endearments! yes yes, 'hoy gago' deeefinitely means 'my darling'!" (it does not lmao)
Idk if you can even finish a sentence w Michael before he attempts murder 💀💀 seeing him might make the national anthem play in your head and do the whole "right hand on the left side of your chest" routine 😭 ano to flag ceremony????? HAHAHAHAHA shit ayan na ang watawat ng pilipinas 😭😭😭 w Michael idk if i wanna pay respect to his halo the flag or kneel and recite the lord's prayer
As for the mamon part, you get the cravings and just say "i wanna eat some mamon, i miss it"
for reference, mamon is a Philippine sponge cake that's usually eaten as an afternoon snack or snacks for kids in recess (everyone fckin loves mamon you can bribe w that shit)
While the nobles would be confused and probably be convinced that they misheard you Mammon will find it hilarious
After you explain what it is he will send someone to Earth to get you the best mamon there is (homemade and expensive mamon is good but nothing beats Monde and Lemon Square 😩 fight me) ykw might as well ask for other delicacies while he's at it
Once he gets the gist of Filipino cuisine, he'll probably have a personal chef for you, which may or may not be good if MC can cook
A professional chef at your disposal is amazing and all but your recipes are from grandma and that's how you like it 😤 no i dont need measuring cups and spoons imma just eyeball that
A little off topic here but Filo!MC will feel right at home in Gehenna. The devils there are very resilient and are still able to laugh and joke even when shit hits the fan. But that doesn't mean they don't take the situation seriously. Their sense of community is ✨✨✨
Also, Filipino humor is so broken and unserious idek how to explain PH jokes to my non filo friends/moots. MC will just roll with the punches when it comes to Hell's logic imo 😭 "Oh we're doing this now, okay. Fuck it we ball." We're memeing everything. Nothing and no one is safe.
#what in hell is bad#prettybusy what in “hell” is bad?#whb#what in “hell” is bad?#🦐:ask#whb mc#🦐:ramblings#ph whb players where u at

LAST ONE. pt.3 pt.2 pt.1
filipino!daisuke juarez x fem reader
note: luh ang ganda naman ninyo. nagbugbugan pa talaga dahil sayo LUHHHH... guys bet ko magiging pinoy love story movie trope to heh
the chaos began when your teacher announced the group project during class.
“for this project, you’ll work in groups of three,” she said, scanning the room. “let’s make this interesting. i’ll assign the groups.”
you felt your stomach sink. group projects were always a gamble, and the last thing you needed was unnecessary drama.
“y/n, you’ll be with daisuke and…” she paused, her eyes darting to the new transfer student. “you.”
your heart dropped. you glanced at daisuke, who was already glaring at the transfer student. the transfer student, on the other hand, smirked like he had just won a prize.
alam na kung anong mangyayare.
the first meeting was tense, to put it lightly. you had gathered in the library after school, textbooks and notes spread out in front of you. the goal was to brainstorm ideas and divide the workload evenly.
but the boys seemed more focused on one-upping each other than getting any actual work done.
“that’s a stupid idea,” daisuke said, shooting down the transfer student’s suggestion before he even finished explaining it.
“oh, and you’ve got something better?” the transfer student shot back, crossing his arms as he leaned back in his chair.
“oo meron. baket?” daisuke retorted, smirking as if he’d already won.
you groaned, rubbing your temples. “mag focus nga kayo?"
we’re not getting anywhere with you two arguing like this.”
“he started it,” daisuke muttered, slouching in his seat with his arms crossed.
“oh, real mature,” the transfer student said, rolling his eyes dramatically.
you shot both of them a warning glare. “manahimik nga kayo, ayokong bumagsak dahil sa kalokohan nyo.”
the boys exchanged a look but stayed quiet—at least for the rest of the meeting.
the second meeting was somehow worse than the first. daisuke had brought snacks, which would have been a nice gesture if he hadnt used it as an opportunity to show off.
“oh, ito y/n,” he said, handing you your favorite drink with a grin that could only be described as smug.
“thanks,” you said, taking it with a small smile, though you couldn’t help but feel a little suspicious of his motives.
“ah, and i brought these too,” the transfer student said, pulling out a box of pastries and placing them in front of you like he was presenting a grand prize.
"contest ba to?” you said dryly, raising an eyebrow as you looked between the two of them.
“it’s not a contest,” daisuke said quickly, though the defensive tone in his voice said otherwise.
“oo, kasi alam mo na kung sino yung nananalo,” the transfer student said, smirking as he leaned closer to the table.
that was the last straw.
“okay, enough!” you said, slamming your hands on the table. the boys froze, their eyes wide with surprise.
“i’m not some prize to be fought over,” you said, your voice shaking with frustration.
“group project to, kung ayaw nyong tumulong at nag babardagulan lang kayo, edi ako nalang gagawa.”
before either of them could respond, you grabbed your bag and stormed out of the library, leaving them behind in stunned silence.
you spent the rest of the evening pacing your room, replaying the scene in your head. why did they have to make everything so difficult? couldn’t they see how exhausting it was to be caught in the middle of their petty rivalry?
meanwhile, back in the library, daisuke and the transfer student sat in awkward silence. neither of them knew what to say, the weight of your words hanging heavy in the air.
“you know,” the transfer student said after a while, breaking the silence,
“she’s right. we’ve been acting like idiots.”
“yeah,” daisuke admitted, scratching the back of his neck as he avoided the other boy’s gaze.
“we have.”
“i like her, you know,” the transfer student said, his tone quieter now, almost hesitant.
“yeah, well, so do i,” daisuke said, his voice firmer, more resolute.
the transfer student sighed, leaning back in his chair. “maybe we should focus on being better teammates first.”
daisuke nodded slowly, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “for her.”
the next day, you were surprised to find both boys waiting for you outside your classroom. daisuke was holding a single flower, while the transfer student stood beside him, looking sheepish.
“sorry na y/n,” daisuke said, stepping forward.
“we’ve been… out of line,” the transfer student added, his voice sincere.
you raised an eyebrow, crossing your arms. “oh tapos?”
“di na kami magaaway promise.” daisuke said, shooting a pointed look at the transfer student.
“and focus on the project,” the transfer student said quickly, nodding in agreement.
you sighed, though you couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at your lips. “...hm. ginawa nyo na ba yung report na pinapagawa ko?”
from that day on, the group meetings were surprisingly productive. the boys still bickered occasionally, but it was more playful than hostile. and though you hated to admit it, their antics did make things a little more interesting.
daisuke, true to his nature, was still as flirty as ever.
but there was a new sincerity in the way he treated you, a quiet determination to show you how much he cared. the transfer student, for his part, had toned down his smugness and seemed genuinely invested in the project.
as the deadline approached, you found yourself actually enjoying their company, even if they drove you crazy sometimes. daisuke was still daisuke—charming, competitive, and always trying to make you laugh—but there was a newfound maturity in the way he looked at you.
and while you weren’t quite ready to admit your feelings, you couldn’t deny that he had a way of making your heart skip a beat.
that moment had been replaying in your head for weeks. daisuke’s confession last time—earnest, confident, and completely unexpected (unexpected??). you could still see the way he stood there, his cheeks pink but his words steady as he admitted he liked you. you could still hear the way your heart had thudded painfully against your ribs, the way the world around you had gone completely silent except for his voice.
and what did you do? you froze. completely blanked. managed to mumble something about needing time to think before practically sprinting away, too overwhelmed to process what had just happened.
ever since then, daisuke had been nothing but patient. he didn’t bring it up again, didn’t push you for an answer. but he didn’t pull away either. you noticed how he lingered just a little longer when the two of you talked, how he walked closer to you when you went home together, how his smiles softened whenever you met his eyes. it wasn’t awkward, surprisingly—it was just… there. the unspoken thing between you.
and yet, every time you tried to bring it up, your courage crumbled. the words got stuck in your throat, tangled up with nerves and embarrassment.
until one day, you couldn’t hold it in any longer.
it was after school, the sky painted in hues of orange and pink as the sun began to set. the two of you were walking home together as usual. daisuke had his basketball bag slung casually over one shoulder, and he was rambling about his upcoming game schedule. you were only half-listening, too focused on the storm of emotions swirling inside you.
“daisuke,” you said abruptly, cutting him off mid-sentence.
he stopped walking, turning to look at you with a raised eyebrow. “po?”
your heart was pounding so hard you were sure he could hear it. you opened your mouth, hesitated, then closed it again, your hands twisting nervously around the strap of your bag.
“may gusto sana akong sabihin,” you finally managed, your voice quieter than you intended.
his expression shifted instantly, his usual playful demeanor softening into something more serious. he set his bag down on the ground, giving you his full attention.
“okay,” he said, his tone gentle.
“i’m listening.”
you took a shaky breath, forcing yourself to meet his gaze. “about what you said before. about… liking me.”
you saw a flicker of nervousness in his eyes, though he stayed silent, waiting for you to continue.
“i didn’t know what to say back then,” you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper.
“but… alam ko na.”
he didn’t move, his gaze steady and patient.
“i like you too, daisuke,” you said, the words going out in a
rush.
“i’ve liked you for a while, actually. i just… i didn’t know how to say it.”
for a moment, he just stared at you, as if he couldn’t quite believe what he was hearing. then, a slow, bright smile spread across his face, so bright it felt like the sun had come out just for you.
“seryoso?” he asked, his voice tinged with disbelief.
you nodded, your cheeks burning. “yeah. i am.”
before you could say anything else, he stepped forward and wrapped you in a tight hug, lifting you slightly off the ground.
“you have no idea how happy that makes me,” he said, his voice muffled against your shoulder.
“okay, okay, put me down!” you protested, though you couldn’t help but laugh.
he set you down gently, his hands lingering on your shoulders as he looked at you with a grin that could only be described as elated.
“so… does this mean we’re official now?”
“i guess it does,” you said, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement.
“sweet,” he said, his grin widening. “but don’t think this means i’m gonna stop trying to impress you.”
you rolled your eyes, though your smile betrayed you. “kulit mo."
“and you love it,” he teased, poking your cheek lightly.
maybe you did.
the days that followed were nothing short of magical. daisuke didn’t hold back now that your feelings were out in the open. he made it his mission to show you just how much he cared.
he’d show up at your classroom during lunch, waving at you through the window until your friends started teasing you mercilessly. he’d carry your books even when you insisted you could manage on your own. he’d leave little notes in your locker, sometimes with cheesy pick-up lines that made you groan, sometimes with sweet messages that left you smiling for hours.
one afternoon, he even surprised you by showing up at your house with a bouquet of flowers.
“what’s this for?” you asked, holding the bouquet awkwardly as your mom peeked out from the kitchen, her eyes wide with curiosity.
“just because,” he said with a shrug, though his grin was anything but casual.
your mom practically squealed when you brought the flowers inside, already asking when he was coming over again.
introducing him to your parents was inevitable. your mom had been suspicious for weeks, dropping hints and asking pointed questions about the boy who was suddenly around all the time.
when you finally brought him over for dinner, daisuke was surprisingly nervous at first. but as soon as he stepped inside, his usual charm kicked in.
“hello, po,” he said, bowing slightly. “i’m daisuke. it’s nice to meet you.”
your mom’s face lit up instantly. “so, you’re the one who’s been keeping y/n so busy lately.”
“guilty as charged,” daisuke said with a sheepish grin, glancing at you out of the corner of his eye.
by the end of the night, your dad was jokingly calling him “anak,” and your mom was already planning his next visit. daisuke fit right in, laughing at your dad’s jokes and helping your mom clear the table like he’d been part of the family all along.
as he walked you to the door at the end of the night, he turned to you with a smug grin.
“told you they’d like me,” he said, leaning in just close enough to make your heart skip a beat.
“don’t let it go to your head,” you teased, though you couldn’t stop the smile spreading across your face.
“too late,” he said, leaning in to press a kiss to your cheek.
you shoved him lightly, your cheeks burning. “you’re impossible.”
“and yet, here we are,” he said, his grin widening.
the news of your relationship with daisuke spread quickly—too quickly for your liking. daisuke’s not-so-subtle gestures at school had practically announced it to the world. but you hadn’t expected the transferee to find out the way he did.
it happened one morning when daisuke dropped by your classroom to deliver breakfast. you hadn’t even asked for it, but there he was, grinning as he handed you a neatly wrapped sandwich and a carton of chocolate milk.
“can’t have my girlfriend starving, can i?” daisuke said loudly, earning an amused chorus of “awws” and giggles from your classmates.
you buried your face in your hands, muttering, “daisuke, stop being so loud…”
the transferee had been sitting nearby, quietly observing the scene. at first, his face betrayed no reaction, but as the realization sank in, his expression hardened.
“so, you two are together now?” he asked casually, though his tone carried an edge.
you looked up, startled. “uh, yeah… we are.”
daisuke shot the transferee a smug smile. “why? surprised?”
the transferee didn’t answer, but the tension in the room was palpable. you could feel the way his gaze lingered on you, like he was trying to figure out how he hadn’t noticed sooner.
the basketball court was alive with shouts, laughter, and the rhythmic sound of sneakers squeaking against the polished floor. it was one of those days where the students played to burn off steam, but for daisuke and the transferee, it wasn’t just about the game anymore.
you sat on the sidelines with a few classmates, watching as the boys played. daisuke, ever the show-off, darted across the court with his usual grin, while the transferee seemed to make it a point to stick close to him. it was subtle at firstlight shoves, stolen passes, and the occasional taunt muttered under his breath.
“what’s his problem?” your friend beside you muttered, nudging you.
“don’t ask me,” you replied, crossing your arms. you could feel the tension brewing on the court, but you weren’t about to step in.
the game escalated when daisuke managed to score a three-pointer, earning cheers from his team. he turned to the transferee with a cocky smirk, his hand cupped to his ear.
“what’s that? couldn’t hear you over all the cheering,” daisuke teased, his voice loud enough for everyone to hear.
the transferee scowled, gripping the ball tightly. “you think you’re funny, huh?”
“nah,” daisuke said, shrugging. “i just think i’m better than you.”
that was all it took. the transferee shoved daisuke, hard, sending him stumbling back a few steps. the court fell silent as everyone turned to watch.
“anong problema mo?” daisuke snapped, regaining his balance.
“ikaw. ikaw problema ko,” the transferee shot back, stepping closer.
“guys, chill,” one of their teammates tried to intervene, but it was too late.
the transferee lunged at daisuke, and daisuke didn’t back down. fists flew, and the two of them grappled in the middle of the court, their teammates and classmates scrambling to pull them apart.
you watched from the sidelines, your arms still crossed. you could feel your friend glancing at you, silently urging you to do something, but you stayed put. you weren’t about to throw yourself into the chaos.
just as things were about to spiral completely out of control, a loud, booming voice cut through the commotion.
“stop this instant!”
the teacher stormed onto the court, her face red with anger. she grabbed both boys by the collars of their shirts, yanking them apart with surprising strength.
“anong akala nyo? this is a school, di to boxing ring!” she barked, glaring at them.
daisuke and the transferee both looked down, their faces flushed—not from the fight, but from embarrassment.
“guidance. both of you. now na. and if i see this again, ipapasuspend ko kayo.” she snapped before marching off, leaving the two boys standing awkwardly in the middle of the court.
later, daisuke found you by the lockers, still nursing a small bruise on his jaw.
“you’re not gonna yell at me?” he asked, leaning casually against the metal doors.
you raised an eyebrow. “why would i? it’s not like you’d listen.”
he chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. “fair point. but, y/n... you didn’t even try to stop us.”
“di ako referee,” you said with a shrug, a teasing smile
tugging at your lips.
“besides, deserve nya yun."
he grinned, despite himself. “you’re not mad?”
you rolled your eyes, stepping closer. “just don’t let it happen again, okay? fighting over me is stupid.”
his grin widened as he leaned down slightly, his voice dropping to a playful tone. “so you’re saying i shouldn’t fight over you... but i can fight for you?”
you groaned, shoving his shoulder lightly. “you’re impossible.”
“and you love it,” he teased, his laugh echoing in the hallway.
despite the chaos of the day, you couldn’t help but crack a smile. maybe he wasn’t entirely wrong.

GOM and their favorite Filipino food/snacks, words and culture/tradition please 🙏 (I feel like murasakibara will definitely like Filipino snacks especially beng beng)

So i read ch 11 and it's one of the best chapters yet!
The way Leo spoiled so much for Leonardo made me laugh and remind me how my mom used to do it to get my attention on the soap opera show xD that was such a mood moment xD
I loved how Leonardo offered or more like " asked " leo if he can watch the rerun with him, and how there's a hopeful chance of saying yes.
The kids wanting to watch Game X reminded me of that one OMO art you did where almost everyone are on the couch watching TV as Leonardo and leo carrying about the show! Lol.
At movie night part when Splinter talked about white people saying " it's white people thing " i LAUGHED thinking 'NO SPLINTER YOU DID NOT JUST SAID THAT!!😂'.
And NOW am about to pick a fight with him; WHAT'S WRONG WITH REGULAR PLAIN CORNFLAKES?!?!
Knowing they're heading to hidden city made me remember that one piece of art you made about them about to fight big mama but then F!Leo come in saying " hey mom! ", will it happen?!?!🤩✨
Honestly when the kids left to the market and F!Leo said he's going to dojo i was sad i thought he would've follow them. But i nearly stimmed from excitement when splinter said this I’m not going to save you from the dramatics when they catch you!”
HE KNOWS F!LEO'S GOING AFTER THEM!!! 🤩🤩🤩
AND THE END GAVE ME THE CHILLS!! BIG MAMA KNOWS ABOUT HIM?!?!
i love how i left you all little morsels like breadcrumbs but you somehow ended up face-first in my snack drawer like HELLO?? PLEASE LEAVE SOME FOR THE REST AJHSBJJBDH
also i debated about keeping the Splinter part or not, bc that is literally what i say too on the regular when it comes to horror LMFAO again; i'm filo and in pinoy culture you just dont fuck with spirits and such, asian ghost stories and folklore are fucking TERRIFYING at times, so yeah, i'll just wave goodbye to my white friends if they wanna fuck with an oujia board, im out of there, i am NOT about to end up missing under mysterious circumstances.
i love how some of u were so excited that Leonardo let his paranoia talk him into following the kids JHBBHDJBHF like you all looked at the guy and went "he is So Unwell, i need to watch him get himself into Situations"
and well...i suppose it was time drop another Big Mama hint HEHEHE
waugh! this ask made me giggle so much, i'm glad you enjoyed the chapter so much! THANK YOU!!
#turtle files: ask#omo files: behind the scene#i struggled so hard with this chapter so receiving those kind words really made my evening waugh!!

Happily stuck at home with Stock At Home PH
I looove food kits. It is perhaps one of the few good things that happened during the pandemic. I love how restaurants and home businesses adapted to serve us great quality food and at the same time it gives us freedom to customize each dish to our liking.
Ever since I watched Mark Weins slurp down an entire bowl of Khao Soi Gai a few years ago, I’ve been on the look out for this classic Thai dish in Manila. A few months ago, the search officially ended when veteran food stylist Sharlene Tan-Aspe of Stock At Home PH shared their Khao Soi Gai kit with me. And on a cool night like this, I can only think of the warmth from this hearty Thai favorite.
First of all, that broth — oh baby, that broth! So light yet so sharp and packed with flavor (I think the chicken base makes it lighter compared to, say, tonkotsu ramen). It’s got a subtle heat to it, just enough to fight off the “umay” factor most curries have. It makes you want to eat more. It’s rich and earthy, spicy but not too overwhelming, the coconutty curry broth comes alive with a squeeze or two of fresh lime and makes it sing. Try it without the lime first so you can appreciate the difference.
Another good thing is that you get to cook the egg noodles that comes with the kit, so you can choose the firmness (3-4 minutes in boiling water is recommended for al dente). The crispy fried noodles complement the chewy egg noodles for added texture. I honestly could eat a bag of their crispy fried noodles as a snack. Petition to sell the crispy noodles in bags.
Each Khao Soi Gai kit also comes with lime, pickled mustard greens, shallots, and their Nam Prik Pao or Thai chili paste (use it sparingly as the broth is already spicy on its own). breaks through the richness and keeps you coming back for more.
This is Khao Soi Neua, the beef version of Khao Soi Gai with a richer, more robust broth. The beef chunks are incredibly tender, almost melting into the broth, effortlessly breaking apart in your mouth. The richness of the broth lessens the heat (compared to Khao Soi Gai), so feel free to add as much Nam Prik Pao as you want.
Each Khao Soi Neua kit comes with crispy noodles, pickled mustard greens, shallots, Nam Prik Pao (Thai chili paste), and the all-important lime wedge. The kit makes two generous bowls. It doesn’t come with eggs, but who’s going to stop you from adding it?
The rainy season calls for a hearty bowl of good ol’ Arroz Caldo and Stock At Home PH's take on this classic Pinoy comfort food sticks to its true form but with a crunchy twist: Shredded chicken meat has been fried ‘til crisp and golden instead of being traditionally boiled. The result? Arroz Caldo with more interesting textures but with the same nostalgic flavors.
The Arroz Caldo kit is available in two sizes and comes complete with crispy garlic, spring onions, hard-boiled eggs, and even calamansi.
Stock at Home PH’s Butter Chicken tastes the way I always imagined butter chicken would taste: Spicy but not hot (it has a lot of spices but not a lot of heat), complex yet warm and inviting. The various spices have come together and gotten to know each other so well, creating a harmonious sauce that’s flavorful, smooth, and simply delicious.
Each tub is good for 3-4 persons (or 2-3 Chings) and it’s freezer-friendly! So you can have it any time you have a butter chicken emergency, like I do every week. The kit comes with your choice of roti or basmati rice.
Stock At Home knows comfort food so well and it’s evident in their Cheesy Chicken Parmigiana, one of the newest additions to their portfolio of homemade goodies.
It’s a complete meal that comes with crispy fried chicken pieces in a bed of marinara sauce and topped with cheese and fresh basil, buttered noodles, and more marinara sauce. The noodles are well cooked and still flavorful without overpowering the chicken parm. The marinara’s savory tanginess cuts through the richness of the fried chicken and buttered noodles, giving each bite more umami.
Merienda, anyone? Aside from full meals, Stock At Home also takes merienda very seriously.
Their Chicken Pot Pie comes in a freezer- and microwave-friendly plastic container, but if you want to get that slightly golden and charred topping, pop it in an oven-safe container and heat it up for a few minutes. The mashed potato top is so creamy and the chicken filling is flavorful and light.
Try to stop snacking on Stock At Home’s Spinach Dip with Whole Wheat Melba Toast, I dare you. It's almost impossible. If you run out of melba toast, it still works well with crackers.
And check out these bite-sized Portuguese Egg Tarts (Pastéis de Nata)! Flaky crust, creamy filling, not too sweet, and just the right amount of bitterness from the charred tops. Don’t forget the coffee!
Keep supporting small businesses, so they can make more amazing products that we can all enjoy. Order through @StockAtHomePH or @TheSevenPantry on Instagram.

America's economy is really dying
Never have I walked into a mall and expressed astonishment at the ridiculous amount of employees and customer service that was occurring here in Calamba City at the mall.
There's someone in the parking lot greeting you and walks around between slots.
The security guard waves a scanner with a Good Morning.
Every kiosk, every department section has a rep waiting to help.
Every store is fully staffed and when you just look inside from the outside they greet you.
Even if you're even a bit curious they come in to say hello.
The security guards (also women) come around just to check in on the retailers to see if they're ok or need anything.
And the mall is literally full of people! Lines hustling and bustling.
When I think about life in Vegas, they're running a skeleton crew and you'd be lucky if you were even greeted from an off the strip store. And the people don't look tired here in the Philippines. They take their jobs very seriously by dressing exactly in their uniform which looks like they've pressed their clothes and put on some stockings. It's so humid but they're wearing a vest or long sleeves?!?! Filipinos waste nothing too. When you purchase a shirt, the rep puts it back into a plastic from when it was probably shipped to them. They do this so it's presentable when you bring it to the register. In the US, we unbox and remove bags after taking the product out just to toss it into the trash.
I had an amazing day with my mom. It was nice to find some retro dresses in the women's section that fit because I know I am not your average sized Filipina. After a while the sales rep's kept throwing more dresses at my mom and they must know she's gracious because she entertained them by giving me more dresses in the dressing room. And the American in me set some boundaries, like ok ok, leave my mom alone we're going to pay now.
And while I was in the fitting room, they asked my mom all types of questions about my personal life and my mom was a willing participant. No she doesn't have kids. No she's my only child. Yes she's married. Yes she's not from here.
Ok time to go mom... Hahaha.
We walked the mall and I was so disappointed in the bookstores. I was happy to find 2 books: a YA romance and a pinoy photography journal. When I was here 21 years ago, there were so many books it was beautiful. Looks like less people are interested or value books. To me, that's concerning but I also know that's a privileged outlook. People are living to eat, and reading is regarded leisure.
We made it home and my mom bought her mom some sweet snacks which she came back scolded for purchasing them. I have to watch my volume sometimes because when I reach a certain notch even in defense of my mom's affection for her mother in that act, my mom shuts down and tunes me out. Basically, after bringing those snacks to her mom's (my Lola), my Lola reminded her not to do that or she'll be fat. I told my mom I wish she didn't look at the past and was disgusted by it but to perhaps see it as a time that she didn't know better and have self-compassion. She's like no I was fat and my mom is right. I close the conversation by growing softer stating, " I know but as your daughter, I see you were trying to be kind and generous to your mom right now and she reacted negatively." My mom, every loyal to her mom (programmed by her years of living here), walked off in disagreement.
This journaling is so important to me after this exchange. How will we undo the patterns of our lives with self-compassion that punitive approaches?
I am determined to be the change. I am already on my way.
