So its Pride Month, yes? We know this, we all agree? Good.

The UKs biggest (and only, technically) chain bookstore Waterstones has been instructing staff at their shops to "scale back" their Pride displays. In several shops, what started as big wall units and tables full of fiction and non-fiction queer lit with big rainbow flags and decorations, is now mostly small sections away from the Front of Store with a handful of titles and one (1) small A4 poster to indicate they're for Pride (the downloadable Pride banners and POS have all been deleted from the company intranet - what is on there is only there because some staff at a few shops still had last years saved on their shop computers). There has been NO mention of Pride in any company emails, and NO info packets of new queer lit being published AT ALL.

How do I know this? Well, lets just say... I FUCKING WORK THERE. And im GAY AS HELL. Im PISSED.

I've spoken to a lot of my colleagues and everyone is angry and confused. This is the first year since I started several years ago that The Company has done NOTHING. It's so stark and entirely transparent.

And it demonstrates EXACTLY why Corporate Pride and Pinkwashing has been a fucking farce from the beginning. Look around you, there isnt NEARLY as much hype this year, and its because all of these bullshit, lying, greedy fucking companies are too scared of being called "woke". Not a single one of them have the goddamn nerve or backbone to stand up and show support in the face of right-wing, bigoted media. This is EXACTLY why we should never have allowed these companies at Pride. We should NEVER have praised any of them for "daring" to throw on a rainbow icon. Because the INSTANT it's decided that being "woke" is too much of a risk, they abandon us.

Fucking remember this. Remember every single corporation that backed down and fucked off. Remember.

i have aired my frustrations about people complaining about janus’s recent characterization but i have to agree that his current makeup is a HUGE downgrade. i’m so sorry but that black line looks so weird and awkward, i keep getting distracted by it 😭 it used to look something like a scar, a lot more subtle and natural but now it looks like it was drawn on with a sharpie.
