Day 100: Princess and Knight AU
Or Day 81, but my brain took the prompt and ran with it.
Lore. or something:
In a world where the Island is all good and well, has a monarchy ruling over it and Siffrin is the heir to the throne. Cracking under the pressure of their position, Siffrin wants to escape, but is unable to leave his position empty, so in desperation he makes a wish for a "perfect replacement", except who could be a perfect replacement if not, well, themself! Loop is made, in that moment a being that has all of their knowledge and experiences but isn't "them" (point of view) seems perfect, they will do great! And Siffrin leaves, only to later realize that, hey, that's like them, literally them, they abandoned themself to a life that both of them hate.
Fast forward a couple of years, the Island is in political turmoil, the heir to the throne, Loop, is kidnapped by King, a member of an offshoot branch of the royal family that demands for a transfer of power. His base is in Vaugarde and outside of the Island's legislation, unable to send official forces, the royal family instead issues a notice "the one who saves the heir will get their hand in marriage", but as it goes with the Island it's not just a motivation for some hero, it's a wish, one made to keep the heir alive for that to happen.
Enter Siffrin, who became a wandering knight after his escape, currently travelling with the party (assembled for different reasons than canon). He catches word of what is happening with the island right now and well, he never stopped regretting what he did, but at some point all the marks left by the life outside the castle became too much to be able to seamlessly return to the life before. But isn't marrying someone you don't know, with no way to refuse just the worst? It's high time they stopped running running away from their responsibilities. So he dons his armour, leaves camp in secret under the cover of the night and goes to rescue.
When they see him, Loop is livid. Siffrin left them all this time to deal with his shit just to return now?? They reconvene with the party and it's time for the road to the Island, very tense and heartbreaking conversations, living up to responsibility, healing and severely confused onlookers.

Now that both have arrived, I need Tumblr to see the full glory of the covers for the Japanese version of The Vampire Armand (parts 1 and 2), published in 2000
Or, in its literal title:
The Pilgrimage of the [Handsome Young Man]* Armand
*fun fact! they call him a biseinen in the actual title like he's not romantic goth on these covers already

The Tossa Pilgrim has been walking this path every year since the 15th century.
According to the tradition, around the year 1400 the plague was devastating the town of Tossa de Mar (in Comarques Gironines, Catalonia). The inhabitants asked Saint Sebastian for help and promised that, if he saved them, they would walk every year to the nearest chapel dedicated to him.
Soon, the plague ended. Since then, every year on January 20th (Saint Sebastian's Day), the people of Tossa have sent a man in representation of the town to walk the 40 kilometres to the nearest chapel dedicated to Saint Sebastian, which is in the town of Santa Coloma de Farners. This man is called the Father Pilgrim (pare pelegrí in Catalan), and still continues nowadays. He walks there accompanied by everyone who wants to join, arrives in the chapel after the sun has set, and gives away shells (pilgrimage symbol) to the people of Santa Coloma who gather to welcome him. The next day, he walks back. When he reaches Tossa again, inhabitants join him carrying candles, and many religious people follow him barefoot for a personal promise.

Kinda thinking about how Siffrin “I don’t want to think about stuff that bothers me” nolastname probably didn’t realize that the end of the journey meant that they will all be separated until the very end
When asking about what everyone wanted to do afterwards, their reply matched what their friends said, as if to follow them and continue being with them even after the journey ends
Mirabelle with her pilgrimage, Odile with her research and home, Bonnie worried over their sister, and Isabeau wanting to settle down and learn clothing design
Siffrin almost matched with them all. Maybe not completely with how Odile said she wanted to go home and him still thinking that Bonnie hated him, but what he said was a way to connect with everyone even after the journey ends. A way to still be in each other’s lives, because they’re friends!
(Sidenote, thinking about how Siffrin probably instinctively remembers how much the children at his country loves space, so that’s why he said that he’ll go to space to Bonnie. He just wanted to cheer them up)
Even their wish showed that!
It took until Odile joking that they’re ‘allies at best’ for Siffrin to start doubting that
And then when they defeat The King, and everyone around them starts acting as if it’s the final goodbye. As if it’s always been obvious that the journey was nothing more than just a page in their life. As if going back to being alone is expected, inevitable.
And not just that, for them to say ‘will you at least visit sometimes?’ As if it’s not even guaranteed that they’ll see each other again. As if even if they do see each other, it will only be ‘sometimes’
That’s probably when Siffrin’s part of the wish activated.

but if you see only one photo from my trip to Yamagata, it should be this one. when I first started climbing Hagurosan, it really did feel like I'd stepped across the threshold to another world.
