The "Rubens Vase," an Agate Hardstone Carving of c. A.D. 400,
Carved in high relief from a single piece of agate, this extraordinary vase was most likely created in an imperial workshop for a Byzantine emperor.
It made its way to France, probably carried off as treasure after the sack of Constantinople in 1204 during the Fourth Crusade, where it passed through the hands of some of the most renowned collectors of western Europe, including the Dukes of Anjou and King Charles V of France.
In 1619, the vase was purchased by the great Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640). A drawing that he made of it is now in Saint Petersburg, State Hermitage Museum, inv. 5430.
The subsequent fate of the vase before the 19th century is obscure. The gold mount around its rim is struck with a French gold-standard mark used in 1809-1819 and with the guarantee stamp of the French departement of Ain.
A similar late Roman agate vessel, the "Waddesdon Vase" or "Cellini Vase," in now in the British Museum, London.
The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, Maryland.

wish - @bartylusmicrofic - words: 530
‘For the moment she had forgotten his ignorance about kisses,’ Barty reads, ‘“I thought you would want it back,” he said a little bitterly, and offered to return her the thimble.’
On Saturday nights, Barty will always read to Regulus the books he has stolen from his house. His voice is normally a little bit raspy at this stage, by the end of the day. Regulus loves to listen to it none-the-less. Ever since Regulus joined the Slytherin Quidditch Team in their third year, Barty has taken it upon himself to offer his undying support, and will typically be on the quidditch pitch screaming his support at Slytherin practises. Afterwards, he will return to the the common room and scream at his housemates over a game of not-so-friendly poker (though recently, Slytherin House has learnt not to play with Barty as he typically cleans up).
Barty turns the page and clears his throat. He reads animatedly, putting on voices for each of the characters in this book about flying children who do not grow up and tiny, mean pixies and muggle children who are lured away in the dead of the night. It’s a strange book that Regulus isn’t sure whether he likes it. But he let’s Barty read anyway, because sometimes Barty throws in his own commentary and listening to that is always entertaining.
‘“Oh dear,” said the nice Wendy, “I don’t mean a kiss, I mean a thimble.”
“What’s that?”
“It’s like this.” She kissed him.’
Regulus lays in bed with Barty, resting against his chest, and draws on Barty’s forearm as he reads. Back in fourth year, Barty began tattooing over some of Regulus’s drawings with a spell he found after sneaking into the Restricted Section. The R.A.B Regulus wrote on his wrist. The Leo constellation. The tiny little cartoon snake Regulus is quite proud of and Barty has named Walter. One day, Regulus will write his name, regulus, over Barty’s heart and hope that Barty tattoos it there so Regulus will remain with him always.
There are stars on the roof of their dormitory that Regulus drew back in their first year, enchanted to twinkle and glow. Constellations Regulus arranged: Leo, Canis Major, Orions Belt. And then three huge, glowing stars he has named after them. Regulus. Barty. Evan. When Barty reads, Regulus watches them in the stars on the roof above them and he hopeshopeshopes that they will be eternal together. Young forever, immortalised, beyond the bullshit of the world.
‘“Funny!” said Peter gravely. “Now shall I give you a thimble?”
“If you wish to,” said Wendy, keeping her head erect this time.
Peter thimbled her, and almost immediately she screeched.’
Regulus squirms when Barty noses into his hair and snuffles, and then tries to bite his ear. ‘I will thimble you!’ Barty declares. He lowers the book and uses his free hand to tip Regulus’s head backwards so he can thimble him firmly upside-down. He slides his tongue over Regulus’s, sucks on his bottom lip, the kiss just a little bit dirty.
‘Thimble me again, Wendy,’ Regulus murmurs against Barty’s mouth.
Barty laughs, his breath warm between them, and he thimbles Regulus again.

Characters
Hey folks, I had an idea. So I'm writing a fic called Once More, With Feeling, and I am about ready to put another chapter out, but at the same time I have also finished the character sheet of every character in my fic who goes to school at the same time as Harry (whew.)
So my idea was that I would release said character sheet and people could do asks pairing a character with a subject they liked (for example, Keiko Tanaka with older lesbian awakening) and I write them a chapter if I could, because 1. motivation and 2. it would be fun!
One note: please don't use any original characters without asking. I know there's still a chance that it will happen and maybe it's not fair to ask, and if so lmk, but if at all possible, if you are reading this, inherent creative copyright is the basis of all fanfiction and if we can't agree on that, so much of what we love wouldn't exist. If you ask I'm 100% amenable to the characters being used, but please ask.
Okay, without further ado, here is the list as of right now, with Harry as a first year. When I get to the next year I'll reblog with the new kids and without the seventh years. The * refers to an original character, and the (a) refers to a character that has already been introduced in the story, which doesn't mean they can't get a chapter written but means they may already have a bit of a personality.

Hey I know nothing about steam powered giraffe but ur mechs Ben diagram post intrigued me, could u explain it pls?
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Steam Powered Giraffe is a wonderful musical act with elements of comedy, pantomime and puppetry (shout out to GG the Giraffe).
Created in 1896 by Peter A. Walter I, the band consists of The Spine (David Michael Bennet), Rabbit (Isabella "Bunny" Bennet) and Zer0 (Bryan Barbarin).
Former members are Upgrade (Erin Burke) [from 2008 to 2011], The Jon (Jonathan Sprague) [from 2008 to 2012] and Hatchworth (Sam Luke) [from 2011 to 2016, although he 'became' a robot only after The Jon's departure].
RELEASED ALBUMS
please note that spg's style varies from album to album and sometimes even from song to song, so every new tune is a new adventure ;]
Album One - the first one, most old-timey in vibe. with that one song you might have heard. there's also a 2011 version of it without upgrade, but with Ice-Cream Man
The 2¢ Show - second album filled with train trips, cowboys, airplanes and this other song you might have heard (insect edition)
MK III - third album, with songs letting us know more about robots themselves (my personal favourite)
The Vice Quadrant part 1 and part 2 - fourth album, 2h space opera and a masterpiece, happening in two parallel universes. even most devoted fans have to check out the timeline sometimes to remember what's going on
Quintessential - fifth album with individual songs and the dnd anthem ever
1896 - sixth (and the newest!) album with absolute bops and foreshadowing for the new album. also, a song about a band sang by a band of people playing the robot band. bandception.
The Seventh - an upcoming album. all we have now is this trailer.
Bonus music
Music from SteamWorld Heist - new space-pirate themed songs and covers of older, popular tunes made for the SteamWorld Heist game. definitely deserves more recognition
covers and stand-alone songs not included on any of the albums
STUFF WORTH CHECKING OUT IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE
general info about the band/members
lore about creation of the band + timelines of both their fourth album "the vice quadrant" and the band itself
spg comics (now also on webtoon!)
@owlhari's youtube channel, with really fun early-performance compilations and more recent videos discussing lore, theories and the band itself
obviously the youtube channel of the band itself (if you dig around a bit you can find some pretty cool videos, such as these ones)
not to self-advertise, but spg community on tumblr is pretty neat. i've met wonderful people there and also found out that colonel walter ate dog food, so it's worth it to visit our tag sometime, i guess ;3
#the post is open so feel free to add something if you feel like it!#sorry it took me so long anon but my app glitched so i had to wait until i could get my laptop#not adding 'fandom' wiki becaus of stuff they do with ai and monertisation. hope it doesnt make stuff harder#ALSO JUST FOUND OUT GG IS A TUMBLRINA??#sorry the post is long i got too excited#long post#spg#ask#anon ask#anon#spg lore

And all twelve chibis from the calendar together. <3
ID in alt text and under the cut.
[ID:
Twelve pictures.
The first one shows a chibi drawing of Peter Parker as Spider-Man in his classic red and blue spandex outfit. He is swinging on one of his webs from the right to the left, arms extended and legs bent in front of him.
The second one shows a chibi drawing of Maya Lopez as Echo, with the white handprint on her face, wearing a black crop top, black trousers, and bandages around her arms and hands. She is standing frontal to the viewer, head cocked, left hand on her waist, right hand lifted, holding a gun.
The third one shows a chibi drawing of Luke Cage, wearing his usual yellow shirt and blue jeans. He is turned slightly to the left and looking down at three bullet holes in his shirt. His shoulders are up and his hands are lifted in a what-the-hell way.
The fourth one shows a chibi drawing of Jennifer Walters as She-Hulk in her She-Hulk form, wearing a white and purple spandex suit with short sleeves and legs. She is turned sideways but looking at the viewer, smirking. She is flexing her right arm, touching her biceps with her left hand.
The fifth one shows a chibi drawing of Jessica Jones with her trademark leather jacket and gray scarf. She is turned slightly to the right, arms crossed, expression pissed, as she taps her right foot impatiently.
The sixth one shows a chibi drawing of Marc Spector as Moon Knight, swooping in from the top left. He is wearing his white Moon Knight suit, holding his cape in the shape of a crescent moon. The cape is covering most of his body and his eyes are glowing.
The seventh one shows a chibi drawing of Matt Murdock as Daredevil in his classic red suit, sporting the Daredevil logo on his chest and the horns on his mask. He is standing with his legs apart, slightly turned to the left, holding up his billy clubs in both hands. He looks pissed.
The eighth one shows a chibi drawing of America Chavez, wearing her usual jeans jacket with the red and white stripes on the shoulder parts and the blue shirt with the white star. She is smiling, crouching down frontally to the viewer, her left leg stretched to the side, her right leg bent, so she is resting on her knee. Her left arm is stretched to the side, while her right is aimed at the ground.
The ninth one shows a chibi drawing of Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel, wearing her blue mask, blue top with the yellow lightning bolt, and red pants and scarf. She is turned slightly to the right, smiling, and her right arm and hand are embiggened and extended above her head.
The tenth one shows a chibi drawing of Danny Rand as Iron Fist in his classic suit with the yellow mask, green and yellow top, which is open in the front, showing his dragon tattoo, yellow sash, and green pants. His expression is concentrated, and he is turned slightly to the right in an attacking pose, hands balled into fists as his right hand is glowing.
The eleventh one shows a chibi drawing of Frank Castle as the Punisher, wearing his trademark skull shirt and a long black leather coat. He is looking angry, facing the viewer, arms extended in front of him, a gun in each hand.
The twelfth one shows a chibi drawing of Kate Bishop as Hawkeye in her purple outfit with the quiver slung over her shoulder and her purple glasses in her hair. Her body is facing the viewer, but she is turned completely to the left, expression one of concentration, as she bends a bow.

Spitballing ideas for other Marvel (and DC and maybe Image) Comic Book analysis rambles. Let me know if any of these pique your interest over the others.
Runs/stories I love that need more attention, though still going to give critical analysis to:
Bill Mantlo Hulk
Really anything big written by Mark Gruenwald including his Captain America run
From The Ashes Era X-Men
Gail Simone Deadpool
Gail Simone Wonder Woman
Chip Zdarsky Spectacular Spider-Man
Avengers Twilight
Ann Nocenti Beauty and the Beast
Walter Simonson Fantastic Four
Kurt Busiek Avengers
Untold Tales of Spider-Man
Kurt Busiek Thunderbolts
Roger Stern Spider-Man
Duggan and Posehn Deadpool (not Duggan’s solo run which is an important distinction)
Mark Waid Daredevil
George Perez Wonder Woman
Batman Zero Year
Geoff Johns Wally West Flash
Astro City
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl
Spider-Girl
Fourth World Saga
Jeff Smith’s Bone
Kurt Busiek Superman (you can tell I like Kurt a lot)
The Totally Awesome Hulk
Jed MacKay Moon Knight
Abnett Nova
Annihilation Saga
Justice League International
Machine Man (both Jack Kirby and Tom DeFalco)
Alyssa Wong Deadpool
Probably anything by Cody Ziglar
Doctor Strange/Doctor Doom Triumph and Torment
Books of Doom
Kelly Thompson Captain Marvel
Doug Moench Moon Knight
Ryan North Secret Invasion
Jason Latour Spider-Gwen
JMS Thor
Far Sector
The Power of Shazam
Runs/stories that I don’t like and think are overrated, and want to talk about why:
John Byrne Fantastic Four (gonna be honest I could make a whole blog dedicated to dissecting this one hooh boy)
The Sentry
Peter David’s Hulk
Spider-Man 2099
The Court of Owls
Hickman’s Avengers/Time Runs Out
Spider-Man: Blue
The Infinity Gauntlet
Stan Lee Silver Surfer
Geoff Johns Green Lantern
Runs/authors/topics in comics that are fairly well known but I want to take a different angle:
Ms. Marvel and the weird translation to MCU
Stan Lee and the legacy of whine
Rebirth Superman: better and worse than you think!
Kang The Conqueror: Deeply underrated villain, but absolutely missed the point in the MCU.
Marvels: How issue 5 became a harbinger of doom for Spider-Man
Paul Jenkins Spider-Man: High highs, low lows.
Nick Spencer Spider-Man’s good attributes
Actually Great What If stories!

the next installment of my winterspider series has taken such a meta turn thanks to those good old fourth wall breakers Walters and Wilson 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Peter and Bucky are each friends with the only genre aware beings in the MCU hell yeah
#well to call Bucky and Jen friends is generous because Bucky's a mess#and is convinced the team is gaslighting him about not seeing Jen's fourth wall breaks

Miami (OH): 2024 Arizona Bowl Champions
TUCSON, Ariz. -- — Kevin Davis had a career-high 148 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just nine carries Saturday and Jordan Brunson also ran for two TDs to help Miami (Ohio) beat Colorado State 43-17 at the Arizona Bowl.
Davis scored on a 4-yard run with 12:35 left in the third quarter, Matt Salopek forced a fumble that was recovered by Silas Walters and quarterback Brett Gabbert's first rushing touchdown of the season — a 10-yard scramble that capped a 47-yard drive — made it 22-3 about 2 minutes later.
After the Rams failed to convert a fourth-and-4 from the 5, Davis took a hand off up the middle and raced untouched for a 97-yard touchdown to give the RedHawks a 26-point lead with 6:45 remaining in the third quarter. George Swarn's 98-yard TD against Western Michigan in 1984 is the longest run in RedHawks history.
Miami (9-5) is 9-7 all-time in bowl games.
Colorado State (8-5) committed four turnovers which the RedHawks converted into 19 points.
Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Stephon Bailey and Peter Montini scored on a 1-yard run for the Rams.
Dom Dzioban made field goals of 34, 26 and 24 yards and the RedHawks led 9-3 lead at halftime. Dzioban's 26 made field goals are tied with Sam Sloman (2019) — a seventh-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2019 NFL draft — for second most on the program's single-season list. Graham Nicholson made 27 of 28 last season and won the Lou Groza Award, given to the nation's top kicker.
The Rams made their first bowl appearance since 2017, when they lost 31-28 to Marshall at the New Mexico Bowl.
