A list of details and bits in Peter Pan goes wrong that I really like
Trevor and Annie interaction in the intro (it's literally like three seconds but their friendship means so much to me so I don't care)
Trevor trying to light a cigarette over a bucket that says "Gunpowder, DANGER EXPLOSIVES"
Trevor saying that Dennis's headset won't be noticeable, and then Dennis entering the stage with a giant headset
Dennis reading out all of his lines with no emotion whatsoever
"Liza, the Darling's housekeeper. Different in every way from Mrs. Darling" Enter Annie who plays both Liza and Mrs. Darling
Everyone completely ignoring Robert desperately reaching for his dog ears
Annie having to sing louder and louder as the background noise gets louder and louder (That bit will never not be funny to me)
Trevor giving both the other stage hands (played by Bryony Corrigan and Niall Ransome) a comforting pat on the shoulder after they help cut Robert out of the door
Nancy Zamit's singing voice
Annie accidentally pulling Trevor unto the stage when she jumps in her Tinkerbell dress (They're besties your honour)
Trevor's scream after the blanket lights on fire (Can you tell who my favourite character is??)
The way Sandra looks at Max during the entire play (I love them)
Sandra checking if Lucy is okay
The fact that Dennis actually can remember lines, just not his own
When Trevor is holding up the cards for Dennis all of them are written in a way that makes Dennis insult the show or his cast members, but you can see that the cards clearly have enough space on them to avoid that sort of thing. Which implies that either Trevor is actively trying to insult the show or he is just a himbo.
Dennis wears inflatable armbands when swimming
Just how happy Robert and Chris sound whilst gossiping about their cast members
Robert checking Trevor's pulse because they're all scared that he just straight up died
"Not you Dennis walk away", followed by Dennis holding up his hands as if he's being arrested
Chris insisting on pulling of the cork of the flask with his hook rather than just placing the bottle on the table and pulling it off with his other hand
Everyone's horrified screams when Annie wakes up
Vanessa/Bryony looking incredibly happy after Annie wakes up
The sea shanty. Just that. I love it. It's a great song
When the stage won't stop revolving and we see the stage crew, all of them turn to Trevor because he's the only one of them who's had to deal with everything going completely wrong
Bryony and Niall's characters trying to tape down the stage
Trevor leaping of the stage the moment he hears Chris yell his name
Sandra and Annie actually getting along and not fighting over Annie's kiss with Jonathan. Annie repeatedly apologises but Sandra says that it's not Annie's fault and that it's okay (And the fact that this was a detail added by Charlie and Nancy)
Trevor saving the day
Trevor and the BBC guy still arguing whilst there is an actual fire
Trevor yelling "Happy Christmas mate!" as he sprays the BBC guy with the fire extinguisher
I also really like the fact that we see Trevor and the BBC guy arguing and then the next thing we see of them is them hugging and screaming over the fire
The BBC news guy saying that the BBC has cancelled their Community Choice Project (a.k.a the only reason the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society were even on BBC) as the boat goes by in the background
When Sandra and Max kiss the camera deliberately move so that you can see Trevor and the BBC guy in the background with their arms around each other, and Trevor looks at the BBC guy in such a loving (and gay) way and then he realises that there are cameras and immediately pulls away
Trevor helping the BBC guy down from the bunk bed and then looking after him as he runs of stage (Your honour they're gay)
When the credits roll a bunch of names start falling off and apart, except for the Lightning designer's whose name flickers instead
#I fear that a hyperfixation is forming#I have literally not been able to stop thinking about this show for the past weeks#peter pan goes wrong spoilers#peter pan goes wrong#mischief theatre#the play that goes wrong#the goes wrong show#tgws#chris bean#robert grove#dennis tyde#max bennett#sandra wilkinson#jonathan harris#annie twilloil#trevor watson

PAIRING — WARNINGS — WORD COUNT!
〘 Romantic Hobie x Miles Older Sister , Platonic Spiderverse cast x Miles Older Sister | Slight spoilers | ~ .7K words 〙
MASTERLIST !! PINNED POST 🎧💿
ੈ ✮ ˳ Lulus Notes :: Repost, set after ASTV
✩°。 Tagging :: @punkologist , @neptunes1nterweb , @honeybleed
Miles older sister who takes care of him. She’s the one who knows when something is up and is the one always giving advice.
Miles older sister who had a hunch something was up with her lil brother but wasn’t sure what exactly until she caught him red handed. Him still on his suit in his room.
Miles older sister who had to take a minute to process that her little brother was fucking Spider-Man and understood why he didn’t tell her or their parents.
Miles older sister who becomes his girl behind the screen. She tells him whenever a villain is causing chaos and calls the cops to get the villain he apprehended.
Miles older sister who gets her brother out of suspicion and trouble with their parents, always having a convincing excuse.
“Mija, have you seen miles?”
“Oh, he went to the store to buy more ice cream cones since he ate mine.”
Miles older sister who never leaves her brother suffer by himself. Always hearing out whatever is bothering her brother and giving advice only an older sister could.
Miles older sister who gets caught up on the whole multiverse stuff by her little brother and learns of all the other spidermen her brother considers his friends.
Miles older sister who meets Peter B. Parker and Mayday and is immediately in love with her. She always counts on him to take care of Miles and is ok with babysitting Mayday.
Miles Older Sister who, when she meets Miguel, is not the friendliest. She’s not over how he treated her little brother and doesn’t hide it. She later on goes easier on him since she sees how he’s genuinely sorry and embarrassed by how he reacted.
Miles older sister who is a bit doubtful of Jess. She didn’t think someone who was a mother would’ve acted like she did towards a kid. She learns to trust her later on.
Miles older sister who meets the other spider kids closer to Miles age and immediately approves of them. She’s even willing to make sure they don’t get in trouble with their families.
Miles older sister who becomes an older sister to Pavitr, Gwen, and Peni. She listens to them and gives them advice like she does with Miles. She’d go insane if anything or anyone hurt her kids.
Miles older sister who meets Gwen and immediately likes her. She gives her advice on wooing her brother and getting the approval of their parents.
“Miles loves drawing so you can never go wrong with giving him stuff like drawing books and markers. Oh, and you should call our parents by our last name. Mom hates when kids call her Rio.”
“Wait, seriously? Why didn’t Miles tell me?”
“Cuz he was probably too whipped to tell you lmao”
Miles older sister who, when she meets Hobie, clicks with him in a different way than when she meet the others.
Miles older sister who gets flirted by Hobie and responds with flirting back, only to get caught by Miles and seeing his hilarious reaction.
“Seriously? My sister?!”
“Aye, calm down Peter Pan.”
“C’mon man! Why it gotta be my sister?”
“Miles relájate nene.”
“What do you mean relax?! If i hadn’t come in you probably would’ve been eating each others faces!”
“PFFT-“
Miles older sister who sneaks in Hobie through her window, having to shush him so her parents don’t hear them and have her father storming in.
Miles older sister who gets caught by Rio one day, with her and Hobie having been sitting on her bed talking about random things.
Miles older sister who has to introduce Hobie to her parents. Rio and Jeff are apprehensive at first, Hobies punk appearance not being what they expected for their daughters boyfriend.
Miles older sister who’s glad Hobie gets along with her mom and tries to be civil with her father and tries not to get into politics or fights with them.
“So, Hobie, what do you do for a living?”
“Kick fascists ass and play in my band.”
Just Miles having a nice and caring older sister <3

I may have a guess about Skully but I am not sure if its going to be true or not. (You can read this yapping but I am sure it won't be a spoiler but a speculation about Skully)
We all know that Skully is silly, goofy, and oddly cheerful. But when you look closely there ARE hints of Skully thinking badly about THOSE who don't even know or appreciates Halloween as he does and refers to say that "He refuse to talk about that school". Especially not pointing out names but knows that he despise THOSE people who doesn't appreciate what he too enjoyed so he mask that frustration by being silly.
But as for his teeth I can guess that he lost them from a punch when he intentionally insulted that person in doing so. I can be wrong on this but I think if he has magic or not (im not sure) there might be another guess or its just the punch.
I don't even know how long is he in that book, but I can make a guess that Skully liked that place rather than his own school.
If you don't know much about the movie or do know the movie: The Nightmare before Christmas
Jack Skellington is visibly seen as exhausted from doing the same Halloween theme all over again till he first witness Christmas. Tried to intimidate Christmas in his own ways and Sally knows that it will go bad cause of a simply flower she picked up.
Of course things goes terribly wrong and Jack manage to make things right again at the RIGHT timing to free Santa, and the entire Halloween Town was covered in snow.
So for Skully who IS inspired by Jack Skellington, I can see where this is going. He would be the type to refuse to leave the Lost in the Book because he IS inspired by Halloween. Like Jack, Skully IS bored and exhausted from the same traditions, and when he entered the Lost in Book he loved it here despite knowing that he himself had his either first or who know how long in here.
Things would DEFINITELY have gone wrong and plus its the overblot gang that WOULD show no hesitation in being a hostile guest. If you know the movie there ARE things that would scare them. ESPECIALLY worse for Jamil that there ARE bugs in Halloween town. Malleus enjoying the gloomy sights and the gargoyle statues and Sebek being Sebek (loud).
Not to mention that Leona said to the player (if you got his card at least) mentioned that Skully kissed you and everyone's hand WITHOUT consent. It can prove that he has intentions but I can guess that it would be for formalities plus there ARE people who did that without consent but does it in a surprise way.
So one way or another Skully's actions throughout the story would definitely GO WRONG one way or another, unless the characters are taking care of it rightfully so. Tho this may be a guess, like Peter Pan I can say that Skully would be the type to never leave his own wonderland aka Halloween Town.
But I can be wrong about it. But let me know if you want to comment on this.

So, Canto 5. Spoilers.
Peak fiction, utterly incredible. My following thoughts will be jumbled but forgive me.
I've sadly not finished the source material, so I won't analyze it from that POV, but just to discuss the continued building of the world of the City, the Great Lake is so well conceived as a setting. The individual Lakes and their Waves, and the Whales that cause them, the variable coordinates and U Corp's monopoly on written data of Laws. You could make a whole damn RPG on the back of this stuff alone, I know TTRPG heads are looking at this and coming up with some homebrews.
I wonder if the Lakes are actually the result of the Whales changing the waters around them? Ishmael theorizes that the Whales parasitize humans out of loneliness, to make others like them (which of course reflects on Ahab as a Whale) and I wonder if the waters of the lake are similarly changed to reflect the Whale? And then I think about how Ahab turned the inside of the Pallid Whale into Pequod Town gah the subtext.
I'm also thinking more about the Sinners as a found family. While they've gotten on well enough since Verg put his foot down it's becoming clearer as time goes on that real bonds are forming. Ishmael was certainly straining those bonds but its a testament to them that they grew stronger after she found peace. I was pleasantly surprised she and Outis found a dynamic as fellow seawomen leading to mutual respect, not to mention what's going on between Heath and Ish (I have never shipped anything harder in my life). And then there's the individual relationships to Dante. Dante and Ish have gotten over the hump, and while she says that if they ever go in the wrong direction "she'll drop a skiff and depart" I feel like Ish is invested in Dante as a friend and will be there for them no matter what, including steering them back on the right course.
We saw it in S.E.A., but it's dawning on me that we get to experience characters post arc and that there are consequences to that. It didn't feel that way as strongly with Canto 1 - 3 because Gregor and Rodya are thoroughly still cooking on their issues and Sinclair feels like he's started his arc to becoming more confident and capable (the part where he actually threatens that guy is just chef's kiss). But we saw a Yi Sang who's actively trying to preserve his new friend group and find the bright side of things. Now we'll have a collected Ishmael who can keep it together and is firmly on Dante's side, which will be amazing come the Heartbreaking if the Heathmael dream is real.
Rapid fire thoughts in no particular order:
Ahab VA is perfect casting, her character is phenomenal, and I can't wait to see how she'll do on Hermann's team. PM is carrying the torch of insane old ladies.
I'm increasingly certain that the plot of Limbus will be ultimately about the multiverse (IN A GOOD WAY) and the goals of the villains and other groups deals with mirror worlds in some way.
I'm thinking about the other 3 Calamities of the Lake, Whales that attack without rhyme or reason. I have to imagine them as other great beasts of literature, so one surely is the Crocodile from Peter Pan. Possibly another is the Dogfish from Pinocchio (adapted as Monstro in the Disney version). Then I don't know, the Giant Squid from 20'000 Leagues Under the Sea (or maybe the "Narwhal" itself)? There's many possibilities.
I enjoy the Middle as a faction, they fit in with the deeply absurdist nature of the City and feel distinct from the other Fingers we know about. Makes me wonder what the actual fuck the Pinky's deal is if they're the worst Finger (iirc).
Love the feeling of Faust and Verg as outsiders Red Fraud Alert there's no way it doesn't come to a head at some point where Vergilius and the group are fundamentally at odds but the group is strong enough that threats won't cut it.
Compass is fire. Love that we're seeing different fan remixes combining the vocal and instrumentals in interesting ways, though I worry for the official version. Fly, Broken Wings doesn't work as well when it just goes through the whole thing without repeating the Broken Wings part, I much prefer an edit that matches the in game version more. I hope Mili sees what people are doing and gives us the heartbeat.
Praying to god we get a Stubb or Pip Outis ID with Pequod Captain Ishmael, but that will likely be end of season. I predict Ish ID to be a powerful SP support ID and will likely be as meta as Nclair (which is cool but also kinda unfortunate narratively, there are some downsides to the Gacha format).
Sentences like "Ishmael totally tops Heathcliff, that guy would turn into a puppy dog at the slightest hint of affection" are insane things I believe wholeheartedly and I love every time a literature person stumbles upon it and has to wrestle with this surprisingly valid crackship not knowing its origin.
All for now but I'm sure I'll think of something else later, can't wait for the Christmas Event (which will likely drop after Christmas but c'est la vie).

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon | S1E2 Thoughts
⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD ⚠️ do not read below the cut unless you’re okay with spoilers
Positive Thoughts
The opening scenes in Paris at the start of the outbreak? Genuinely got my heart pumping and my adrenaline rushing. I was actually freaked out. I wish TWD would have shown the outbreak actually happening more than they did. It would've been really interesting to see how each character ended up at the quarry, going all the way back to season 1 of TWD, but that's irrelevant lol
Camerawork is crazy good??? I mean, I don't really know anything about cameras but I thought that there were some really cool dynamic shots, especially in the flashbacks.
Isabelle is growing on me a LOT. I am so glad she is turning out to be her own character so far. I mean, I don't completely trust her because I think she definitely has her own agenda (can't really blame her), but I like her character. She hasn't annoyed me once which is crazy because even DARYL has annoyed me a few times in this episode lol
I loved the little detail of Sylvie being at the abbey when Isabelle arrives with Lily. Just a cool little detail where we see a little bit of Sylvie's story, too
The entire concept of Laurent being born to a walker is cool as hell and idc what anyone says. I wonder if him being born to a walker actually has some kind of effect on him. Of course, my first thought goes to maybe he is immune or something, or he carries the cure to the virus in his blood. I am so excited to see how that pans out. Idc if it's "ripping off" TLOU (I don't think it is tbh)
Speaking of Laurent, I have a newfound appreciation for him. He's so cute and sweet, and I felt bad for him when the children were picking on him
Lou's group is SO COOL. I love that they're a little group of children who raised themselves. Kinda reminds me of Jocelyn's kids from season 9 of TWD, but less evil. MUCH less evil. Not evil at all, actually. They remind me of the Lost Boys from the movie Hook, which is based on Peter Pan. That dinner scene was especially reminiscent of that for me
Daryl being undercover as a priest LOLIONGJWKDS
Daryl has some amazing sassy/cute moments in this episode. I think my personal favorite is when he loudly slurps down the soup at the dinner table. I also loved the little detail of Daryl starting to eat before everyone else/before they said grace, signifying how Daryl doesn't really have good table manners (which I love). It's so cute when he starts saying the prayer with food already in his mouth lol
And Norman's acting in this episode was once again so good. There's a scene when they're watching the TV where the camera slowly zooms in on Daryl. His smile begins to fade and you can just see in his eyes how much he misses home, and how much he wishes he could be with his family, even Merle, who he is probably thinking about, too, since he used to watch the show with him.
DARYL USING A MORNINGSTAR DARYL USING A MORNINGSTAR DARYL USING A MORNINGSTAR DARYL USING A MORNINGSTAR DARYL US--
That annoying American was slightly entertaining. Mostly annoying but slightly entertaining as well
Daryl and Laurent are very cute. I love how Daryl sort of relates to him in that they were both outcasts as children
Negative Thoughts
There are a few things Daryl does in this episode that rubbed me the wrong way just a tad bit. Of course I still love him but I just don't understand some of his decisions lol. Like when he let the mule go instead of just getting off his ass and taking out those walkers. He could've done it! Especially with the help of Isabelle and Sylvie. They probably could've taken out that herd without sacrificing the mule. Just kind of a stupid decision imo. Unnecessarily cruel too. I also didn't get why Daryl locked Lou in that shed. Kinda not cool? He could've just said, "hey, you stay back and I'll handle this." I didn't really see the point in having him do that :/ and he lies a lot to Lou and the kids in order to get what he wants. I mean, I get that he doesn't owe anything to these kids, but still... just seems a little callous. It's giving Carol vibes lol. They're basically making Daryl do things the way Carol does them—by lying, manipulating, and being cruel to children. I like Daryl because of his kindness, not this weird deceitfulness that he has going on suddenly. Again, I get that he is in a foreign place and these are all strangers to him so why should he care, but it just really doesn't seem like our Daryl. Other than that, I liked Daryl a lot in this episode, but there were just some little things I didn't vibe with
This episode did seem to veer away from the main plot quite a bit. I wonder if Lou's group will return later to help Daryl and the others in his group, or if they were just a one and done storyline. While I loved this little adventure, it did seem to not really add to the overall arc, and the little scene at the end with Codron walking around the abbey did seem a bit shoehorned just to remind us of the actual plot, but who knows?
Neither Positive Nor Negative Thoughts
So lets talk about the bed scene. Idk. I didn't hate it because I didn't see anything romantic there between Daryl and Isabelle, BUT it was a little like... can't you guys just have there be two beds lol. I really just think it's baiting, once again. I don't feel any romantic connection between them, and I don't think the show is necessarily trying to get that across to us, but I do think that they're like "well if people do think this is a romance, it will get them to continue watching the show and see if they get together!" So basically I think it's just a way to get people interested, but I don't think anything will happen. I think they will stay friends, otherwise it would be very awkward, at least from the way their relationship is so far
That's about all I have to say I think! Thanks for reading my thoughts. Hoping to get Chapter 2 of Begin Again out before the next episode, but no promises <3

For the purposes of this post, i'm gonna go with the last movie i watched fully and go a few weeks back to when i convinced my friend to watch Brother Bear. Originally my friend and i were gonna watch Peter Pan and Wendy cause they love Peter Pan but we could barely make it halfway through which really surprised them, and i wasn't following what was happening. Before we settled on that we were trying to figure out what else to watch, preferably something they haven't seen before. One of my suggestions was Brother Bear which i loved when i was younger (it was the first movie i saw in theaters twice) and, for reasons i don't understand, they never saw it. So they ended up deciding to give it a try.
There are a lotta things i love about that movie. The obvious one is the classic hand drawn animation cause that's something that's basically extinct by this point especially in movies since everything is computer animated. The music is fantastic for multiple reasons. One being that it matches the aesthetic of the movie perfectly and the other being the songs were written by Phil Collins (aka the guy behind Tarzan) and you know Phil Collins goes hardcore on things. I also just loved the younger bear, Koda, in the movie, and how he was always bugging Kenai. i thought he was hilarious. This was one of the movies where, when i was younger, i could memorize a buncha scenes and try playing it out with plushies (in some cases, to the actual score which the only movie i could really do before then was The Lion King and now as an adult i could also do Beauty and the Beast). Being older now i have even more appreciation for the movie. Aside from the fact that it's one of the few original ideas Disney created - cause you know Disney does its best when it retells fairy tales or classic stories in their own way - and you know they can do original ideas just as well [when they want to and don't hyperfocus on remaking movies they already put out]. Personally i also love looking up facts and learning about movies after watching them, especially Disney movies. The movie actually plays in two different resolutions. The first part of the movie is...i guess for a better wording, more narrow and the colors are on the more de-saturated or darker side. After Kenai transforms into a bear, the movie shifts to more of a widescreen and the colors get significantly brighter (or, at least they do to me since having been an art student i was trained to notice more differences between color so obviously as a kid i wouldn't've picked up on it). They specifically did that to show the difference from Kenai's pov as a human vs a bear. It's things like that, that are little reminders of not only how much effort goes into making these movies but also how much research is done and how much people really think about what they're putting on the screen. Also sidenote the characters are completely POC because of the location and time period and during before diversity was more pushed than it is now, that feels kinda significant.
This was also the second friend i convinced to watch the movie and who thoroughly enjoyed it (be warned of course, there are sad parts in the movie especially considering Kenai believed he got turned into a bear cause he "didn't do anything wrong" (spoiler - he did)). One of my other friends, we watched the DVD of Brother Bear i had cause she didn't have streaming at the time and she enjoyed it so much that another time we hung out she wanted to watch it again. That being said, i highly do NOT recommend the sequel. Animation not being as good (obviously) and different voices (also pretty normal for direct to video/DVD sequels) aside, they very clearly only made Brother Bear 2 to give Kenai a girlfriend. And being the hopeless unromantic that i am, it only took one watch for me to decide HELL NO. The sequel is dumb and pointless (as are many sequels but this one absolutely).
And trust me, if you want more than a review and an actual recap of events in the movie to wanna make you feel to a small extent like you're watching it, i can very easily type that up [without actually watching the movie again, though writing it probably would take the same length of time as watching the movie lol].
I did also watch about half of the Addams Family from 2019 when it was on, but that was only to have something on in the background to fall asleep to. I think i got up to the part where Wednesday when to school with regular kids and shortly after that was when i fell asleep, so i can't really comment on anything about it except the designs for the Addams Family was much better than the other humans in the movie. I did also catch bits and pieces of the first Paw Patrol movie though, again, something to put on while i was falling asleep, but that i have no idea what happened except the Paw Patrol was going into the city to do a thing and i'm still waiting for my friend's kids to tell me how the movie ends.
wait guys. reblog this and tell me what the last movie you watched was. bonus points if you add a short review <333

Review of 2022 Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers Movie with Spoilers
The 2022 Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers movie is a spiritual successor to Who Framed Roger Rabbit which came out in 1988. The two main characters Chip and Dale are from the adapted 1989 series with the same name as the movie. In 1943, Chip and Dale were created by Disney to appear in the 1943 cartoon called Private Pluto. A huge complaint about the 2022 movie was Chip and Dale were stated to grow up in the 1980s instead of being created in 1943. The movie is primarily focused on the Chip and Dale from the 1989 cartoon and not any other versions of Chip and Dale. Chip and Dale had a beautiful friendship in this movie. Dale was shown to be a lonely kid on his first day of school. The teacher introduced Dale to his classmates who just stared at him. Dale performed a joke to lighten the mood but the joke goes horribly wrong. He stuck a pencil in his eye which prompted some of the kids to call him a freak.
At lunchtime, Dale sat by himself at a table. Chip approached Dale and asked if he can eat lunch with him. Hesitantly, Dale said yes. Then, Chip offered to tell Dale how he could set up his joke to get more laughs. Dale accepted Chip's offer which was the start of their wonderful friendship. Later, Chip confessed he was just as lonely as Dale was at school. The other students ignored Chip and he felt invisible. Chip begged his mom to let him stay home from school so he didn't have to face being socially isolated by other students. However, Chip's mom encouraged Chip to reach out to another student to make a friend. She told Chip that he wouldn't get anywhere in life if he didn't take risks. So that day, Chip took a risk when he saw Dale sitting alone. Chip asked Dale to be his friend and Dale said yes.
Chip and Dale's friendship/chemistry helped them become a comedy duo as grownups. Chip played the logical straight man while Dale played the goofball. Their routine helped land them the 1989 Chip and Dale cartoon. For awhile, the two of them had fame and fortune. Eventually, Dale decided he was tired of being hit in the head every week for comedy purposes. He told Chip he wanted to do his own show called Double O Dale which was a reference to the 1989 episode Double O Duck from Duck Tales where Launch Pad plays a spy. Frustrated, Chip warned Dale that Rescue Rangers would be cancelled if he left the show. Undeterred, Dale left the show, Rescue Rangers was cancelled and the pilot episode of Double O Dale was scrapped.
After Rescue Rangers was cancelled, Chip ended up selling insurance and living a closed off domestic life with his dog Millie. Dale ended up going to cons, setting up a booth with merchandise from Rescue Rangers and trying to get show gigs whenever possible. Zipper and Gadget got married and had a ton of fly/mouse hybrid babies. On youtube, some people commented they found Gadget/Zipper strange. I didn't care about this ship. I was just glad Gadget wasn't paired off with Chip or Dale. In the 1989 cartoon, Dale and Chip spent too much time fighting each other to win Gadget's affections. Gadget couldn't decide which chipmunk she liked so she didn't pick either of them. Dale was implied to hook up with the flying bat named Foxglove later in the 1989 cartoon and the Boom comics.
Monterey Jack's cheese addiction caused him to become kidnapped by Bad Pete since Bad Pete wanted Monterey Jack to star in a bootleg movie. Bad Pete's backstory seemed to be a callout to Bobby Driskell who got too old to play Peter Pan and was fired by Disney. The movie director claimed Bad Pete was supposed to represent child actors getting cast aside by Hollywood when they got too old to play children roles. Some people complained about how Bad Pete aged and one of the Lost boys remained young. Here's my answer to that complaint: This movie has toons getting CGI surgery so toons can probably get plastic surgery or other operations to look young. The Lost Boy probably got surgery to keep looking young forever. Bad Pete didn't want to get the CGI surgery or do any operations on himself. He just wanted to be in charge of directing bootleg movies.
Bad Pete forced Monterey to undergo animation surgery so he looked like Dumbo. Chip and Dale had to team up to rescue Monterey Jack. The two of them doing their horrible rap in the Russian bathhouse for the talking snake was hilarious. Chip and Dale acknowledged their rap was bad but admitted they had fun together. Really, the two of them having fun as friends was all that mattered. Two times, Chip thought Dale was dead. The first time Chip cried when he looked at what he thought was Dale's body. Dale stood next to Chip and told Chip that he was looking at a stuffed doll from the Double O Dale cartoon. Dale asked if Chip was crying over him and Chip denied he was crying. The second time, Dale got in front of Chip to protect him from a bullet. Dale collapsed from the bullet's impact in front of Chip. Crying, Chip flung himself on Dale and confessed why he needed Dale so much in his life. Dale's eyes opened and he revealed a coaster in his shirt saved him from the bullet's hit. Then, Chip and Dale hug each other.
People complained about how Gadget, Zipper, Monterey Jack, Dale and Chip were only together briefly once Monterey Jack was rescued. The whole gang being together wasn't what this movie was about. The movie title is Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers because the movie was about the two main characters Chip and Dale and their friendship. Chip and Dale had a strong friendship but both of them had insecurities. Dale felt Chip only saw him as a charity case and wanted to hear just once for Chip say he needed him. Chip had too much pride to say how much he needed Dale until Dale got shot in front of him. Abandoning his pride, Chip was able to tell Dale he made Dale the second banana so Chip could be first banana to be good at something in his life. Chip told Dale he was wrong for making him be second banana and that he should have encouraged Dale in whatever goals he wanted to meet. Finally, Chip surmised he was a bad friend and wanted to be a better friend to Dale. This admission from Chip was all Dale really wanted. The two of them reconcile and do their series reboot together. The movie ends with Dale and Chip laughing, having fun as friends while doing different advertisements for their reboot. This movie gets five out of five stars for me. You can watch this movie on Disney Plus.

A Comprehensive List of SpideyFist Interactions (pt.4)
hello and welcome back to: reasons Spideyfist is canon. a series where i take you through each episode of The Ultimate Spiderman and show you why i believe that Peter Parker and Danny Rand are dating in canon, or at least that they are each other’s favorites. and also give you commentary on the show itself as i do
warnings for: episode spoilers, season spoilers, action/injury description, unsolicited commentary, probable cussing, violence, caps lock, bullying, mentions of pedophilia
this part features episodes 21 through 26 of season one
~~~
S1E21 I am Spider-Man:
- before i even opened this episode to watch, my brain assaulted me with the plot and i can tell you right now that it was fucked up in more ways than one. Danny’s not really in this episode, so this is probably gonna be headcanon and commentary only and i’m sorry for the commentary you’re about to receive.
- MJ calling creepy guys out on their bs like the queen she is
- also, the fucking Trapster is boarderline pedo
- okay, we all know how Peter feels about his secret identitiy. that’s always been clear through every iteration of Spiderman, Peter Park does NOT want people knowing he is Spiderman. so, what this is to say: when Peter removes his mask on stage and the camera pans to the reaction, there’s shock on MJ, Luke, Ava, and Sam’s faces. but Danny’s not shocked. Danny looks scared. this is gonna be apparent in later parts, but Danny knows how much Peter’s identity means to him, the entire team is fully aware. Danny’s scared for Peter, not shocked it’s him under the mask
- MJ wanting to change the public opinion is so valid
- Coulson is so self-centered in this episode it scares me
- how in the fuck is Spiderman wrong for the part of SPIDERMAN
- Peter’s bully being chosen to play him is ironic
- Sam’s blatant dismissal of Peter’s bullying, also the costume switch, is another reason i ship what i ship. Sam had no right to take Peter’s costume, that he put time and effort into making, and honestly, i don’t blame Peter for being angry about this
- JJJ really just has a grudge a Peter at this point
- the understudy list is so fucking wrong. also, it shows how much Coulson DOESN’T know Spiderman. Sam is on the list after Flash, Ava after him, Miles Morales next, then Peter. you wanna know who’s NOT on that list? either of the other two people specifically mentioned ealier in the season to be quite similar to Spiderman by Taskmaster. bull-fucking-SHIT
- honorable mentions of poly!team: Danny, Luke, Sam, and Ava show up to support Peter (or laugh at him, but they could’ve just watch a video for that)
- Peter does his job to the best of his ability, even against Flash
- Peter’s the fucking best at speeches
- Peter’s gonna look less like the real thing, which is something else that goes towards his secret identity
- in the team line up, Peter says Danny’s name first
- Danny’s the first one with an inkling that this fight may actually be real, doesn’t count towards SpideyFist, but it does show how observant and smart he is
- “is there some chance that’s the real Spiderman?” Danny knows exactly what Peter looks like when he fights and exactly how he acts as Spiderman, which counts because you have to be paying attention a LOT for that kind of memorization, he dismisses it, probably because of May distracting him, but it’ll bug him until he’s proven right
- headcanon: Danny always knows when Peter’s in a fight from here on out. he’s constantly got a line of his attention focussed on Peter in some way
- Coulson just pisses me off this episode
- the second-hand embarrassment was so real this episode, i had so much of it. i nearly turned the episode off like six times, kid you not
- of course Ava’s worried about sitting out an actual fight
- Flash being a good guy for all of five seconds
~~~
S1E22 The Iron Octopus:
- Danny’s also not in this episode, so it’s headcanon and commentary
- ah, second Deadpool mention
- happens all the fucking time, apparently, Peter
- huh, i don’t remember this episode well
- nope, nevermind, yes i do
- Peter doesn’t like guns, which likely comes from trauma relating to Ben
- Iron Man no longer has a head
- Tony destroys his own tech regularly, which is kinda funny when you look at it through the “he gets mad when his armor is broke” lense
- two rich guys, one his best friend’s father and the other his mentor. looks at my SpideyFist lists ...man, Peter just attracts rich guys, huh?
- among the things i don’t blame Doc Ock for are being so utterly pissed off at Norman.
- “might want to sit this one out, doc” Peter being so protective of Dr. Connors is adorable on all levels
- knowing what i know now about the team and how the SHIELD thing works for them specifically, i think it’s fucking weird how little Fury calls on them. they’re supposed to be training to be heroes, correct? how are they supposed to learn if they don’t get real-word experience. is it that they aren’t ready? but Peter is? idk maybe i read too much into this. also, what’s the team doing right now that they can’t go and help in this situation with Doc Ock is attacking the hellicarrier?
- WHY DIDN’T YOU CALL THEM ALREADY YOU FUCKING DUMBASS
- Peter’s done things to villains that would apparently see him strung up
- Osborn’s manipulation thing is disgusting
~~~
S1E23 Not a Toy:
- “i need back up! front up? side up?” Iron Fist appears out of the fog and yes this freaking counts
- “tell me you’re not freaking out and maybe i’ll calm down!” translation: Danny is the most zen and chill guy Peter knows, if he’s freaking out, then Peter knows this is something worth freaking out over
- the second Peter lands, he’s trying to find Danny
- Coulson, i’m pretty sure there are stronger people than Cap around
- Danny and Peter are standing next to each other after a battle again!
- Peter fighting until his last breath to get Cap for one more round just because he and the team are excited about it
- the absolute SHOCK on their faces when Steve puts his shield on the line to keep
- listne, Peter just wants JJJ to stop being so cruel to him and that’s a very valid goal
- Danny lasting more than two seconds in a fight against Captain America when he’s still a trainee and having not trained as long as Cap has. AND landing a solid hit on him
- something i think shows since the beginning is that Danny is always well prepared when fighting against Peter or his fighting style. we know from later episodes that they have a weekly sparing session, but we don’t know how far back it goes. given that it’s pretty far into season 1, i think it goes back far enough, like definiately mid-season 1 at least
- Danny, who’s been trained in a multitude of weapons, knowing EXACTLY how dangerous that shield can be
- i’m not saying Sam ratted Peter out, but i am saying he’s the one quickest to blame Peter for things.
- headcanon: this version of Captain America can look at someone and know exactly what they’re capable of and the potential they have
- “know the fight” is a piece of advice i try to live by these days
~~~
S1E24 Attack of the Beetle:
- Danny’s not in this episode, no notable interactions. and unfortunately, at this time, i don’t have the energy to provide more commentary, so headcanons you’ll get.
- headcanon: Peter doesn’t believe he’s going to get good things (until, you know, the team and Danny), but he does believe he deserves them
- Peter things his aunt and Coulson shouldn’t go out because Coulson isn’t COOL oh my god
~~~
S1E25 Revealed:
- guys, gals, and nonbinary pals, i have a small confession. i’ve been waiting for this episode since i started this plot. this one and a few others are pretty big for Spideyfist. one of those episodes is Strange Days, this is the next one on the list. i apologize for nothing about what i’m about to do
- celebrating the small things
- Danny doesn’t pull Peter away from things. to my knowledge and so far to where i’m at in USM, Danny’s never called Peter in. Ava has, Sam has, and now Luke, but Danny hasn’t. which i’m counting because it means Danny doesn’t want to pull Peter away from his “me time” or his friends
- i feel awful for Harry in this moment. his best friend and his father have both abandoned him
- when Klaw is about to attack Peter while his back is turned, Danny comes barrelling in immediately to make sure Peter stays safe. and the thumbs up they give each other is adorable
- Peter and Danny are standing next to each other during a battle again. i should binge USM and take a shot of chocolate milk whenever this happens, just to see how long it takes me to get a sugar high
- “let’s take ‘em out!” aaaaaaaand Danny’s the first one to follow the order
- “try to maintain calm, friend.” right after you just went and punched the robot so hard it fucking exploded?
- gee, i fucking wonder where Spiderman is. y’all didn’t watch him, so the bad guy snatched him
- also, Sam and Luke look in one direction confused, but Danny looks AROUND in a panic
- headcanon: Danny may not be the first one out the door, but he’s right on Ava’s heels
- ah yes, the Goblin serum
- headcanon: Peter has lightning scars
- Danny is right there at the front, closest to the way this little bot is going. he talks about having patience like he needs to remind himself that he need to be patient, which counts as being very worried about Peter
- “eventually it’ll lead us to Spiderman.” not “to the person who has Spiderman”, not “to where we need to go” both of which would’ve been more in character with Danny not even two episodes ago. “it’ll lead us to Spiderman”
- Danny moves first to go after the robot. almost desperate, like he NEEDS to get to Peter
- you know, for all Doc Ock rants about being a great scientist, he sure doesn’t do well at the whole “creation i can control” thing
- who’s the first one to jump down into the fight to help Peter? Danny’s the first one to jump down into the fight to help Peter
- and Peter’s talking directly to Danny instead of the rest of the team again
- oh, look at that, Danny walks up to get a closer look at the new creature formed and who does he stand behind (protecting his back while also knowing he’s going to be protected)? Peter, it’s Peter. of COURSE it’s Peter
- hey remember when i said back in like part 2 that Danny only talks himself up twice? i was mistaken, it’s just the once. Danny’s saying they should’ve stayed and finished the fight. but why would he do that, this is a new creature, they don’t know it’s power set. well maybe it’s because Doc Ock stole his boyfriend and he’s a little touchy about that.
- also, Peter says “we’re drawing it out” and lemme just flashback to Damage Control when Luke and Danny’s plan was to draw the assailant out
- in the fucking fight. in the fucking Green Goblin fight, who gets hurt first? Luke. Luke, who’s been electricuted and is not getting up, who Danny and Ava where both worried about depsite having trained with and understanding his powerset. and who does Peter go to when injured? NOT LUKE. NOPE! no, no, no, Danny gets smacked into a wall and Peter goes to Danny instead
- “Iron Fist! Stay with me buddy!” other teammates getting hurt and knocked out around him
- AND PETER STAYS THERE WITH DANNY UNTIL GOBLIN TAKES A STEP TOWARDS HIS DIRECTION! TOWARDS PETER WHO’S RIGHT NEXT TO DANNY
- you wanna know something else? Peter’s all quips and wit until someone fucks with the team. like this is the first serious battle where we see the team get hurt to the point that they aren’t getting back up. Peter isn’t saying any quips, he’s not using those one-liners he’s so famous for. what does he say to Goblin when Goblin makes towards his fallen teammates? he says, “you sick freak.” this isn’t a game to him, and that’s not his best friend’s dad anymore, that’s the person who hurt his team. that’s not Norman Osborn, that’s the Green Goblin.
- he’s also not holding back. you see him giving EVERYTHING he can. “i should beat you into a paste!” like it’s something Peter can DO without trying. Peter’s fucking terrifying under the quips and the sarcasm and rookie-ness
- and STILL he extends help to Goblin. even after he beat Peter’s team up, even after causing pain and injury to the people Peter considers family, he still says, “let me help you”
- “sorry, Mr. Osborn, but my team? they’re like my family. and if i have to take you out to save them, then that’s what i’m gonna do” FUCK
- the fact that the team is literally carrying each other out is something awful and terrifing. i didn’t watch this episode when it first came out, and watching it now as an adult just sinks it in that we’re meant to view Goblin as an Ultimate Adversary
- Peter blames himself because of course he does
- Danny’s the only one facing away from Peter when the camera pans to the team when Peter says “everyone i care about”, i know i talked about how Danny doesn’t like letting people see him vulnerable or weak. he’s supposed to be a king, a leader, of course he doesn’t want someone to see him injured. this goes DOUBLE for Peter, Danny’s leader.
- Peter cuts the team coughcoughDannycoughcough out of his life to keep them safe but of course we know that won’t work. their leader sets an awful example
~~~
S1E26 The Rise of Goblin:
- Peter, babe, that’s not healthy, you gotta sleep
- Peter is shocked to see his team, despite knowing that his team would literally follow him to the end
- “what are you guys doing?” following their leader, dumbass
- do i think Spideyfist broke up this arc? no. but i do think their relationship was a little strained. they had to work it out.
- and despite not wanting his team in the middle of this, he lets them hold Goblin off while he gets Harry out of danger
- “it’s that serious?” no, Harry, it’s all a practical joke being played on you by Spiderman and his team to fuck with you
- Danny is the first one to try and convince Peter that he needs the team and Peter gives Danny his full attention
- Peter gets after Ava, Sam, and Luke for being at the fight, but not Danny who was also there. Peter literally doesn’t even LOOK at him during the fight except for when Danny’s talking directly to him
- “nobody. and i mean NOBODY hurts my friends.” and we’re back to Peter being all business
- hey guess what. Peter and Danny where walking next to each other after a fight again.
- camera pans over to Sam when he speaks and shows Sam and Danny instead of just Sam
- Peter says stop and Danny (and Luke) is right there to enforce Peter’s rules
- GUESS WHO’S RIGHT BEHIND PETER AS THEY’RE GEARING UP TO FIGHT AGAIN
- do i even need to say it at this point? becaue Fury may have been right behind Peter but Danny was a step behind Fury and that fucking MEANS SOMETHING
- the SECOND Gobling starts going after Danny, Peter is on his feet and MOVING to take the threat out
- “you wanna know who’s responsible for who i am? my mentors! my friends! my team!” aww, he gives credit to his team, that’s so cute
- Peter doesn’t quip when he’s pissed off at the villain he’s fighting. Goblin not only attacked him and Harry, Goblin attack Peter’s teammates. Goblin hurt Peter’s teammates and that’s a transgression Peter cannot forgive
- honestly, i’m just taking a shot every time Peter and Danny are standing behind or next to each other after, during, or before a battle
- there’s a metaphor here about mental health and how the Goblin is the angriest and darkest part of Norman. Goblin wanting to stay as he is, is kinda like a metaphor for a person who doesn’t want to get help, who wants to stay the way they are dealing with the symptoms and triggers that are part of their mental illness. it’s awful to see, in a way
- “i will find them. all of them!” and Peter’s up on his feet threatening both Goblin and Venom with bodily harm if a single one touches his family
- and this is forshadowing for the season 2 finale
- when Peter is presumed dead after the hellicarrier explodes, Ava, Sam, and Luke all call out for him, they’re worried about who’s gonna tell Aunt May. you know who doesn’t say a word? Danny. you know who doesn’t say a word when someone they love and car about had died? that person's significant other. Danny was speechless
- and when Peter comes back up on the beach, they all look happy and shocked, but Danny? Danny’s face is pure relief
- and WHO EMBRACES PETER FIRST? IT’S DANNY
- and Danny coming in with the comforting advice that makes Peter stop and LISTEN
- and here’s where we find out that the other four heroes actually live on the hellicarrier which once again brings me to the question, where the hell have they been the past season when the hellicarrier was under attack? you don’t see them anywhere else but school or training or mission
- honorable powerspideyfist mentions: Peter (teasingly) insults Ava and Sam, gives Luke and Danny compliments. this also applies to Spideyfist
~~~
and this seasons total Spideyfist count is: 169 interaction out of 26 episode.
thank you so much for reading! season 2 coming soon!
I’m saying this in anon bc I’m scared irl friends or followers will see this but I like the pro-ship community.
I’m new to it, and while I don’t have any kind of ships that anti’s usually hate (minor/adult, family/family, etc.) I do have a lot of age gap ships and one ships that’s especially problematic.
My super problematic one I use for coping, and I want to talk about and share and stuff, but I’m worried people will send threats or call me things like an abuser bc I like this certain ship.
It sucks that I can’t just talk about my problematic ship, but the pro-ship community makes it better. I just wish there was a way to make sure only pro-shippers see my toxic/coping ship posts, and not anyone else like anti’s or irl friends lol.
I’m not really sure what the point of this was, so I’m sorry if this was annoying, I just like your blog and wanted to just say that I appreciate pro-shippers :)
Everything is /g
You’re not being annoying, no worries! I’m glad you’re having a nice time in the community! (Also thank you, I appreciate you taking time to tell me you like my blog! That’s really sweet! Sorry I took so long to respond, I had a very early night lol.)
Someone put Howl’s Moving Castle on a list of “problematic media” because for the majority of it Sophie is cursed to be a 90yo woman and Howl is in his late 20s. Both the novel and the Ghibli movie had the romance as the subplot, but antis are still against it cuz age gap (also spoilers, she turns back to her original age of 18 at the end, so while the gap is still there it’s not even half as severe). But nooo, a gap is a gap so in it goes! Also, Tangled is problematic. Frozen. Zootopia. Disney as a whole is problematic “just” because “racist.” (While I won’t deny there are some very racist things in Disney media like SotS, the depiction of Native Americans in Peter Pan, the Siamese cats in both Lady and the Tramp AND Aristocats, and the company itself is capitalist asf, to condemn Disney based on “just” racism alone is a bit of a stretch.)
Haters gonna hate for the sake of hating. There’s a high chance it's not going to make a lick of sense to you because of the long leaps in logic to get to those conclusions. And that’s entirely a them problem. I’m actually really surprised When Marnie Was There didn’t make it on the list (iykyk!).
Anyway, back to you. There is a way for you to post freely about your ships here! Two ways, actually!
The first is to make a sideblog.
Pros:
great option if you’re lazy and don't want to log out
anonymity. no connection to your primary blog unless you link it (literally or if there’s enough info to reasonably ID you)
much like a vent blog, a writing blog, or an art blog, can be dedicated solely to one thing so you don’t have to clutter your primary/stuff won’t get buried if you want/need to find them later
can be as private or as public as you want
can get asks (anon or not) and submissions
can block people*
can send Tumblr DMs
*Blocking someone on mobile only applies to your primary blog. I don’t know if there’s a way to do so for sideblogs but if you’re on browser you’ll have go to to Settings > select the sideblog URL > scroll down and manually type in/copy-paste the URL of the person you want to block into the Blocked Tumblrs section. Which leads me to
Cons:
the blocking thing, as mentioned above. if you block from your primary account, you can’t see them, but they can still see your sideblog unless you block them there.
can’t send asks, reply, or follow from sideblog; all interactions will come from your primary
always the risk of posting content to the wrong blog so whether you’re on the web or on mobile, double-check and save as drafts just in case!
if you’re going by a different name/persona, you may need to be careful what headcanons/aus/ideas you put out there. this goes doubly so for artists
The second is to make a new account.
Pros:
brand new shiny clean fresh start! anonymity!
sending asks, following people, replying to posts, all the perks!
no worries about posting to the wrong blog
block to your heart’s content without jumping through hoops
again, can be as private or as public as you want
Cons:
a bit more work (emails and passwords and all that)
might feel trapped to just be about One Thing
same con as the sideblog if you’re going by another name/persona, in that very specific or niche hcs/ideas/aus/art could be used to ID you. or just go for it and pretend this really is another person who just happens to share your exact opinions on things. who’s going to know but you, ya know?
Whichever route you take, do what you need to keep yourself safe. You can’t stop idiots from seeking things out they don’t like (you’d think they just wouldn’t but antis aren't known for being logical, ironic they insist they are), which is why proper tagging is so important. Note the tags proshippers use and tag your posts with those. Pop into inboxes to say hello, a majority of us are friendly and chill! And regardless of what the antis say, you do belong in the main tags. People just need to learn to filter and block shit they don’t like, but that’s far more work than screaming at other people to a) block them first and b) not post things they worked hard on making.
If people call you an abuser for liking something in fiction, they need a serious reality check. Tell them to grab the fictional character’s hand with their real one and drag them away from the person harming them if they’re so concerned. Please. Don’t grab a plushie because that’s a doll and that's not alive. Don’t grab a body pillow because that’s a pillow and not alive. Don’t grab a drawing, that’s paper and not alive. Grab the real, living, breathing character who’s being abused and make it all better. Guaranteed they can’t.
How you cope is your business. You’re not self-harming unless you’re intentionally triggering yourself, and you’re not harming another living person if they happen to see something they don’t want to see. You are not responsible for their reactions. If it matters to them so much how you cope, if it offends them so much, they’re not worried about you, they want to control you. There's no one-size-fits-all approach for dealing with shit. Some people go to therapy, take medication, or both. Some people talk to friends, some people run, some project onto characters and draw vent art, write stories, or read those stories about characters suffering through their same problems to feel less alone in them. All are valid. It’s about what works for you. Not them. You. And if they can’t understand that, they also need help.
Happy shipping, friend! Take care of yourself!
Ok if you haven't watched Steins;Gate, you definitely, definitely need to, and don't read this until you have
Because I'm going to do spoilers
And you do NOT want spoilers for this show
So stop reading 👍👍👍
Ok, here goes:
...
Thinking about the massively successful masterclass in storytelling that is this show and coming up with a few thoughts
1. What our protagonist "wants" and what our protagonist truly needs are in direct opposition to each other
2. The story is perfectly cyclical
3. Our narrator is unreliable, which disorients us in a way that heightens the fun (or misery/pain) of watching it
1
I saw a writer on Twitter say that the most important narrative tension you can have in your story is between your character's goal and what they truly need. They need some kind of fatal misconception that misdirects them to a wrong goal, so that by pursuing that goal, they ultimately get straightened out and get what they truly need; whether or not they ultimately accomplish what they set out to do is relatively unimportant compared to whether they learn the important lesson in the end.
Okabe is a great example of this. His stated goal is to "change the world's ruling structure," but it seems pretty clear (in my opinion; Okabe is a pretty controversial character and there are a lot of opinions out there about him) that his goals are a) avoiding the pain of reality (which is why he hides behind his Kyouma mask and is a metaphorical Peter Pan, acting childish and immature) and b) winning esteem (another function of his Kyouma mask, as well as the acts he does with Ruka and Feris especially).
What Okabe actually needs is to accept and engage with reality as it is, and to cherish the moment and the relationships he has within it.
The fact that his goals and needs are in such direct opposition with each other gives the story a phenomenal amount of tension.
2
The fact that the story is cyclical is something else that builds tension in a really interesting way. Instead of the sort of edge-of-your-seat suspense of wondering what comes next, you're dealing instead with the horror and heartbreak of knowing what comes next. You're coming to terms, alongside Okabe, with the inevitable.
I think there's a special kind of good pain involved in a story about "un-doing." Trying to make right. And Steins;Gate explores "making right" through a lens that's uncomfortably close.
In fact, i think it's really brilliant that the whole situation was so innocently got into, and yet so excruciating to get out of. In undoing the kindnesses he had done for them before, Okabe is causing his friends immense pain--pain that they will ultimately not remember--in the service of the greater good. Things he can't explain. You see this unfolding with clear eyes because the story is a perfect circle.
3
Finally, i think it's SUCH an interesting choice to make Okabe an unreliable narrator. This unreliability on his part (not literal unreliability, he's the most reliable boy in the world) draws us into the story by eroding our sense of what's "real" and what isn't. I almost wonder if this effect is what's teased in the opening scene where he's talking into the TV, seeming to address the viewer, before you realize he's talking to what's on the screen.
Because of Okabe's "Kyouma" persona, you aren't quite sure what to make of him at first. You don't know when he's being serious and when he's joking around, or how much of what he says is true and how much is just part of the act. We see Kurisu reflect our confusion at the beginning especially: when he tries to tell her anything, she's confused and concerned and unsure if any of it is real. (Daru and Mayuri basically universally dismiss anything he says as being part of the act, unless they witnessed it themselves.)
This dynamic feeds a sense of mystery into the first several episodes. It's also really interesting to observe how his facade hinders him from really communicating--something we can intuit has happened with relationships in the past (not being able to process complex feelings or express care for his friends without hiding behind Kyouma), but something that seems to be new to him in the realm of "communicating clear information".
What's also really interesting about this is that as Kyouma starts to break down and we see more of Okabe shining through, Okabe's mental state also begins to deteriorate, making him an unreliable narrator for completely different reasons.
What's real? What's an illusion? What's a dream? What's real but, in a moment, one time skip away, won't be?
Imo it's this fudging of reality that's the cherry on top for this show. Even though the story is cyclical, you're second-guessing reality *just* enough not to be completely certain what's next.
I just love this show so much. I feel like it got a lot of love from a specific type of fan, but I've seen relatively little appreciation for it from fans who analyze story and character and storytelling devices. I just want it to be appreciated for the masterpiece that it is!
OUAT Thoughts Pt.26--Episodes 10-11
I have watched through S3E13; spoilers DNI. Also, spoiler warning for anyone further behind than I am.
—Belle helping Rumplestiltskin with his tie is like the reciprocal of him helping her with a necklace. (I’d love to score somebody to help me with my ties and necklaces.)
—Prince Charming’s wedding outfit was gorgeous.
—I love Medusa’s lair. The floor was so pretty; it even had that Classical Greek meander pattern going. And the state of semi-decay was delightful.
—Snow using Medusa’s reflection to defeat her was honestly very high IQ. More people should try that.
—Hm. Jimmy died. Oh no. *indifferent*
—I’m glad Tink is doing better. She’s a pretty cool lady, much better than OG!Tink, and she’s been through a lot.
—I just adore *sarcastic and acrid* when the Blue Fairy is all like, “oh, sorry, Tink, but you can’t be a fairy cause you don’t believe in yourself.” Girl, guess who’s fault it is? If the Blue Fairy hadn’t been so nasty to her, she would’ve had more self-confidence.
—For a hot minute, I was worried there would be some big, magical showdown between Peter and Rumple. I was incredibly pleased to be proved wrong. Rumple beating Peter without all that is just so personal to me.
—Honey just straight-up summoned his shadow, with his magical dagger, to kill Peter at the cost of his own life. That’s some real king sh*t right there.
—And he got to say goodbye to Baelfire and Belle! Most dead people don’t get that.
—See, I can calmly and rationally discuss all of this because I’ve already made my dramatic-ass post about Rumple being dead. (Still screaming inside tho.)
—He proved himself to not be a coward, to be a dedicated father, and to be a hero. He said he didn’t get a happy ending because “villains don’t get happy endings”—but he died a hero. Which is actually a bittersweet kind of happy ending. Not so great for him, because he’s dead, but it leaves his loved ones with the best possible final memory of him.
—Emma and Regina are like that Bugs Bunny meme. One of them mentions Henry and the other one just has to go *oUr sON*
—Prince Eric being a fish-killer in Storybrooke slays me. That’s hilarious.
—It’s great that Ariel and Eric got to be together without drama. Does he know she’s a mermaid yet? Probably not. Will he ever find out? That’s gotta be where the drama comes in.
—It’s incredibly depressing that the Darling boys are adults and Wendy’s still a kid. It’s not fair. They should’ve gotten to grow up together.
—But the reunion between the Darlings and Baelfire was sweet. At least Bae and the Darling boys are the same age, even they probably won’t ever see each other again.
—The more Hook is around, the more I love him. I’m mad at him for being so charming and debonair, but I can’t help liking him. Also, now that I like his personality, I’m starting to see that he’s a rather stunning man.
—Peter Pan can see deez. He doesn’t even pretend to regret dumping Rumple; he goes on this long, terrible rant about how having Rumple ruined his life. And he doesn’t even have to do that, because the anti-magic cuff didn’t work on him. He lingered to say all of that just to be a jerk.
—And yet, in the end Rumple seemed a bit sad to see him die.
—The ending of Episode 11 was super sad. The only good thing is that nobody but Emma and Henry lost their memories.
—While Henry and Emma were saying goodbye to everyone at the town line, Belle was leaning on Dr. Hopper. I love that if he’s in a scene, even if he’s not actively doing much, he’s being there for somebody.
—Also, for him to be a doctor, he must have a PhD from Curse University. Which means he’s most likely classified as a psychiatrist. That’s not important, I just think it’s interesting.
—Dr. Hopper being turned back into a cricket in the Enchanted Forest hurts me. I’m gonna miss his human form. And his human voice, it’s rather soothing.
i was wondering... could you possibly like, summarise what actually happens in 'the play that goes wrong'? ive seen all the TV specials and i noticed during the peter pan goes wrong along that charlie talks about a bit of continuity between it and TPTGW and it makes me crazy that i actually... have no idea what happens in that particular show!
Sure! Warning: spoilers ahead :)
The Play That Goes Wrong is about The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society trying to perform a play called The Murder At Haversham Manor, a murder mystery about the death of Charles Haversham (Jonathan) who is killed on the eve of his engagement party with Florence Colleymore (Sandra). The other characters are Inspector Carter (Chris Bean) who is there to investigate the murder, Cecil Haversham (Max) who is Charles’s brother and having an affair with Florence, Thomas Colleymore (Robert) who is Florence’s brother, Perkins the butler (Dennis), and Arthur the Gardener (also played by Max). During the investigation, Cecil Haversham is also murdered. In the end, it is revealed that Charles Haversham is alive even though Inspector Carter tried to posion him. Thomas Colleymore is revealed to be Inspector Carter’s accomplice and the one who murdered Cecil Haversham.
But of course, lots of things go wrong. Before the play begins, Trevor has lost his Duran Duran CD, and it pops up several times throughout the show. Cornley also has lost a dog that was suppose to be in Act Two. After his character’s death, Jonathan keeps coming in too earlier and spoils the twist. Dennis is always forgetting his lines or pronouncing words wrong. Robert is overdramatic and relies on Trevor to give him his lines. Chris is tired of the audience not taking him and his play seriously. And there is a second level platform (which serves as Charles’s study) that falls in the middle of the play, leaving the actors on it (and under it) in peril.
What Charlie mentioned in the ppgw along video is actually one of the main Cornley storyline in the show:
In tptgw, Annie is the stage manager and Trevor is the lights and sound operator. As mentioned above, Sandra plays Florence Colleymore. During a scene, Sandra gets knocked out, and Annie is sent out on stage to read Sandra’s lines. At first, she’s timid but soon gets into the role. But then she gets knocked out. By this time, Sandra has recovered and is back on stage. But she soon gets knocked out again. Trevor happens to be on stage at this time so he plays Florence. But apparently there’s some kind of curse on the role of Florence Colleymore because he gets knocked out as well. By this time, Annie and Sandra have recovered and are on stage at the same time, which results in them fighting with each other throughout the rest of the play because they both want to play Florence. So there’s lots of yelling over each other and attempts at knocking each other out.
And as we see in ppgw, Annie is no longer the stage manager and is now one of the Cornley actors. And Trevor is now the stage manager
I hope all of that makes sense (and is acurrate haha). Let me know if you need clarification on anything! And I have a boot of tptgw, so if you would like to have that, feel free to message me :)
March 16, 2021: Legend (1985) (Part One)
Hi, Tim Curry. How are you doing today?
Yeah, that tracks. Been a while, always good to see you. Man, actually, when is the last time I saw you? Clone Wars? I think so, although I don’t know if that really counts. I think, in person, it was...oof, Criminal Minds in 2012?
Yeah, dude, you were FUCKING TERRIFYING, HOLY SHIT. I feel like people don’t talk about that performance as much, but you were goddamn amazing, buddy. Sorry I didn’t open with this, but...you were my childhood, Ti. Like, from Clue to The Wild Thornberrys to Muppet Treasure Goddamn Island GOD I LOVE YOU IN THAT MOVIE TOO
Amazing. And let’s not forget Ferngully, of course. Look...I love you, OK? You’re beautiful. And I know that recently, you’ve been through a lot of health struggles, and I wish you the absolute best, I sincerely do. You’re the best, man. Hang in there.
Actually, while I have you...settle a bet for me, I’ve got it with myself. Have I...have I already seen this movie? Because I feel like I might have, but I don’t think so. It’s like the Mandela effect, y’know? I mean, if I’d seen it before...would I not remember you in this get-up?
I mean...come ON, RIGHT? I know FOR A FACT that I’ve attempted to watch this movie with friends before, and that didn’t happen. Then, I tried to watch it on my own, and that didn’t pan out because I’m pretty sure I fell asleep after 15 minutes. It had been a long day, I’m sorry. But...I don’t get it, Tim Curry? What the hell happened?
Well...whatever. I guess we’re going to take care of this ONCE AND FOR ALL. Now, who directed this movie?
Oh shit, REALLY? RIDLEY SCOTT! Kick-ass, he did Alien, and this -
And then this -
OOH, and this!
Oh, and we can’t forget this!
And also this!
And...and this...
...And this...
Oh. Fuck, and this.
...
OH GOD STOP I FORGOT ABOUT 1492
...OK, this could either be a very good movie, or a very VERY bad one. I mean...it’s got Tim Curry in it, so it can’t be that bad? And hey, Scott was on a hotstreak at the time, right? What could go wrong? Let’s do this!
SPOILERS AHEADOH FUCK IS THAT TOM CRUISE
Recap (1/2)
...Ahem. Um. OK. Maybe I imagined that image, or it’s from a different movie. Cool. Let’s keep going, nothing to see here.
The opening text scroll tells us that once, long ago, before time was even a concept, the world was shrouded in darkness. But Darkness hid from the light, which brought to the world laughter, love, and...unicorns. Yeah, really. Unicorns harbor the Light in their souls, as the most mytsical of all creatures. They’re safe from Darkness, and can only be found by a pure-hearted mortal, like Jack, a denizen of the forest. He is loved by Lily, and both believe only in goodness. But not for long, as a struggle for the balance between Darkness and Light is about to commence, and in that struggle will be born...Legend (1985), dir. Ridley Scott.
As the opening credits roll and confirm that Tom Cruise is in fact in this movie, I take a brief moment to vomit lightly.
At night, walking through the forest, there is a creature with some...bad-ass makeup and costume design GODDAMN. Like, yeah, that category’s already looking good. Anyway, the creature goes through the forest, and finds a den of fire and torture, all lorded over by a horned man, who speaks Mother Night, asking for her protection.
This is Darkness (Tim Curry), and...fuck me, holy shit, I GET it. Like, this dude began an entire movement and aethestic, and it makes a fuckton of sense. THis dude must have given birth to, like 10,000 goth children, goddamn. Anyway, he commands his goblin henchman Blix (Alice Playten) to find a unicorn and kill it, and to bring its horn back to him. Blix, the rhyming cretin, asks how to find them. And Darkness answers with the perfect lure: innocence.
That innocence is symbolized by Princess Lily (Mia Sara), a maiden cavorting happily about the wood, without a care in the goddamn world. She visits her friend Nell (Tina Martin), and briefly has a vision of winter in the cottage. Nell notes that it’s time for her to grow up a bit, but Lily’s only concerned with finding her sweetheart, Jack.
And Jack is...well, Jack o’ the Green (Tom Cruise) is a young man who lives in the forest, with his animal friends. An innocent himself, he’s basically Peter Pan, with Lily playing his Wendy. Except, well, they’re not THAT innocent, because they, like, IMMEDIATELY make out on the forest floor. Which has to be uncomfortable, real goddamn talk.
Jack teaches Lily to speak with the birds, then takes her to see something wonderful and rare. All the while, they’re being followed by Blix, who believes that their innocence will attract the mystical unicorns. And, uh, yeah, Blix is entirely correct about that, because here they come! And they’re making whale noises?
Apparently, as long as unicorns roam the Earth, evil can never harm the pure of heart. They express only love and laughter, and dark thoughts are unknown to them. Which Lily takes as an opportunity to go hang out with them, despite Jack’s urgings.
But the unicorns seem receptive to her, to Jack’s...frustration? He just kinda leaves her behind for some reason. And Blix takes the opportunity to hit one of the unicorns with a poison dart, causing them to be startled and storm off. Lily flees into the forest, and is immediately scolded by Jack, saying that what she did is forbidden by magic forest law. OK. She’s as confused about that as I am, but she still apologizes to him.
The two kiss, and Lily makes a promise to him and the universe, I guess, and says that whomever finds her ring will have the right to marry her. She throws it, and Jack IMMEDIATELY JUMPS OFF A CLIFF AFTER IT GODDAMN MY MAN! Lily screams hysterically after him for...some reason?
However, this isn’t great timing, because Blix and the goblins have caught up to the poisoned unicorn, and they cut off its horn, immediately plunging the forest into a fierce winter, similar to what Lily saw in her vision. Jack, in the river looking for the ring, is trapped underwater, beneath ice. By the time he breaks out, Lily’s already run away, to Nell’s place. Nell is frozen solid for some reason, and the goblins are also coming off after Lily for...some reason.
Lily hides, as Blix and his two companions Pox (Peter O’Farrell) and Blunder (Kiran Shah) exposit the whole thing so that Lily’s caught up on her fault in all of this, and once they leave, she promises to make it right. No idea how she’s gonna do that, but sure.
Jack, meanwhile has collapsed in the woods and snow. He’s woken up by a spirit of the forest named Honeythorn Gump (David Bennent), who is...interesting. He asks Jack what in the FUCK happened, and Jack admits that Lily, a mortal, touched a unicorn, which is apparently the ultimate no-no. Gump’s pissed, but the ACTUAL SECOND that Jack says that it was for love, Gump’s just...totally cool with it? They have a drink with Brown Tom (Cork Hubbert), and agree to help him find Lily...like, immediately.
They quickly find the dead unicorn, and yeah, the unicorn is FUCKING DEAD after losing its horn, and its mate shows up to mourn. Jack and Gump mourn with the magical creature, which looks REALLY BIG for a horse, Jesus. She stays with her fallen mate, and Jack goes back to the group, delivering the news that they’re cursed? No idea where that came from.
To lift the curse and get the horn back, they must find a champion bold in heart and spirit. Gump IMMEDIATELY nominates Jack, and takes him to some cave where he can find weapons and armor. He’s guided by Oona (Annabelle Lanyon), a fairy who is LITERALLY NAVI FROM ZELDA, I CANNOT STRESS THAT ENOUGH
Oona reveals her true form to him secretly, then notes that she could be anything he wants her to be, even his heart’s desire. COMIN’ ON A LITTLE STRONG THERE OONA. Anyway, in the vault of golden weapons and armor and...gold, Jack grabs a sword.
Meanwhile, Lily follows Blix and his group, where Blix uses the magic of the Unicorn Horn (or the Alicorn) to demonstrate his newly found prowess. But as he’s claiming to take over Darkness’ kingdom. Just then, Darkness shows up and claims the Horn for himself, and kills Blunder when he talks back. Darkness asks whether or not the Unicorns are both dead, and reveals that his power will not be complete until the female Unicorn is also dead.
Lily runs off and makes her way back to the Unicorn and Brown Tom, and warns them of the Goblin’s approach to kill the Mare. Brown Tom, who I think is either a leprechaun or a brownie, fends the Goblins off, while Lily and the Mare...DON’T RUN? FUCKING RUN YOU ASSHOLES!
Tom gets shot by an arrow...in the hat. He immediately falls dead, despite being totally fine, the dick. And Lily and the mare are captured, BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T FUCKING RUN WHEN THEY SHOULD’VE. Jack, Gump, and the leprechaun/gnome/brownie/halfling Screwball (Billy Barty) come to “rescue” him. He tells them that Lily’s alive, and Gump takes Jack to the Great Tree for the next step, accompanied by Screwball and Tom. There, they find...
WOW. THAT SHIT IS COOL. This is Meg Mucklebone *Robert Picardo), and this thing is absolutely my favorite thing in the movie so far...AND THEN JACK KILLS HER IMMEDIATELY. JAAAAAAACK, WHAT THE HELL, she was really cool. Goddamn it.
The group gets to the great tree, then falls into an underground prison, where Blunder is also held. The group is NOT where they want to be, right in Darkness’ lair. Nice job, Gump. In the prison, the guys, now joined by fellow brownie/dwarf/gnome thing Blunder, hide from one of Darkness’ men, as he takes Blunder away to the torture table.
Stuck in the cell, Jack suggests that Oona go and get the keys. However, her ability to transform into a humanoid form was a secret between her and Jack, and she’s upset by him revealing it. Gump’s also upset by the secret in and of itself, but she defends that her secrets are hers to keep. You tell him, Oona!
She then says that she’ll only do what Jack wants if he kisses her, GODDAMN IT OONA. NOW IS NOT THE TIE TO GO ALL TINKERBELL IN HOOK! He gives her a little peck, but she transforms into Lily to make him give her a real kiss, dear lord that is CREEPY, OONA! Jack almost kisses her, but refuses at the last second. He notes that human hearts can’t be won over that way, which greatly upsets Oona. Still, she ends up getting the keys for them regardless, and sets them free.
And at this point, we are halfway through, so FUCK IT. PART TWO! See you there.
Edel said she was taking Ahiru to the place where she must go, I assume to continue the story, and it really doesn’t matter if this is extreme narrative convenience because Edel IS the narrative in some fashion or another--I’ve really been going with the narrative voice, having gotten off track, but I confess that I could be wrong.
But what I’m really interested in here is that Edel opens this door with a gem. These gems have represented different things, according to Edel, and she has been sort of hawking them on the street, and I’m wondering now at their significance. Is this saying something about the nature of stories and how it is the things we choose to find in them that unlocks the paths they take?
Let’s say for example that we have decided this is a love story. Does love unlock the gate to this? Would a story that we had decided was about revenge take us somewhere else? I think it would! I think when you’re reading with a certain eye, you pick up different things, and you look for certain plot points. And maybe this is even about writers in general, and how you can have the same idea, but if one person goes, “This is a story about sacrifice” and the other goes “this is about defiance of destiny” even if they come to the same end, that end is going to read totally differently, and this is what is so interesting about stories.
There are no original stories, we can say, but in a way, all stories are original. Are you telling me that you could sit down ten writers and say, “Write Peter Pan” and it would all be the same story? I think not. I think that if I wrote Peter Pan and Stephen King wrote Peter Pan and Donna Tartt wrote Peter Pan, Tana French, Dumas, etc, they would all be different stories (though we can agree mine would likely have the least merit) So is it what Ahiru(???) or Drosselmeyer (??? but leaning toward no) or Edel (??) or even us have decided that the story is about, that’s unlocking these things? The stones others have chosen to pick up?
Please note I have never seen this and am watching spoiler-free! Please don’t confirm, deny, hint at, imply, or explain anything, even if it’s historical or cultural! Thank you!
