I need to start saving up money to buy a house or something lmao my rental situation is stressing me tf out. Not that I have any money to spare to save, and I probably wouldn’t be able to get a mortgage even if I had enough saved for a down payment, pfft. Like I swear I didn’t have as many grey hairs before the basement flooded and all this shit happened as I do now.
If the basement had never flooded I’d still be perfectly happy down there but it’s now two months later and they’ve only just removed the damaged walls. Landlord’s wife is coming back April 26th and it definitely won’t be done by then, so I have to either find somewhere that’s short term or go to my mom’s house for who knows how long. And anyone who’s followed me for years knows how little I get along with my dad when we live together, so I’m dreading that. I’d almost rather stay in a hotel if they weren’t too expensive, except I have my cat and finding a pet friendly place is hard enough.
I was supposed to move into the main floor apartment but that lady decided she doesn’t want to leave. I don’t know if the landlord has a legitimate reason to evict her either because I know they don’t get along, but if you don’t have a legit reason you can’t just kick her out. 🤷‍♀️
Also this might be dumb but out of everything the thing I feel the worst about is that my cat loves it up here. I feel like super guilty that I’ve let her get used to a nice apartment with windows she can look out of, only to bring her back down to the basement eventually anyway. Is that stupid? lmao like I know she’s a cat and she’ll probably forget about it in a week once we’re back in the basement, but still. I’d gladly pay another $300 for an above ground apartment with windows just for her. Plus I’m just paranoid about it flooding again.
AND on top of everything the landlord mentioned how the basement apartment would be a bit more for rent once it was done and I didn’t say anything at that point because I thought I’d be going to the main floor so it wouldn’t matter, but as far as I’m aware a landlord can’t raise rent when they do renovations when the renovations were done because of damage. It’s not like I voluntarily moved out and am now going back, I was forced out and once the renovations are done I should have the exact same rent as before. So now I’m like ugh I’m going to have to confront them about that eventually. They’ve been good this whole time and I’m easygoing so we’ve gotten along really well and they won’t expect me to be like mmmm no, but I’m not paying more for rent when I shouldn’t have to. Unless they only raise it like $50 or something I might just let it be, but more than that, no.
I’m going to ask the insurance estimator who’s been kind of helping me out about that again just so I know for sure they can’t do that, because he knows what he’s talking about.
I’m just stressing tf out lmao I’ve actually gone and looked at two apartments. One was affordable but tiny (like probably the size as what I have in the basement, just with an extra wall so there’s technically a bedroom), and another today that was just meh, kind of old and bleh.
And since I live in the Niagara Region of Ontario it’s RARE to find anything less than $1200, and then half the time you also have to pay utilities, and unlike here internet wouldn’t be included either, which also isn’t cheap. And I’ve looked like cities away from where I am but there’s just nowhere cheap.
Too bad I can’t move across the border into Buffalo or Niagara Falls, NY, lmao. Some of those places are cheap af even for American dollars and I’m literally right across the river and paying like double what they are. Sigh.
And smaller issue but still something I think about, my couch (which was also my bed) got ruined and since I didn’t get any money from my insurance I can’t replace it. My Pa helped me buy it and I feel bad that it got wrecked after only having it for like two years. It was expensive too. So no matter where I end up I still need a bed or another sleeper couch.

Pet friendly homes in Canada - Save Max
Are you a pet owner looking for a new home in Canada?
The good news is that options for renting with pets in the country are available. Make it a point to know your rights and navigate the rental market in Real Estate Canada effectively. We share the ins and outs of renting with pets in Canada, including the legalities, costs, and best housing choices for pet owners. So, let’s find your perfect pet-friendly home!
Pet Ownership in Canada: A Major Commitment
In Canada, pets are considered family members by a majority of households. A 2019 survey shows 95% of Canadians view their pets as part of the family. However, owning a pet comes with responsibilities and considerations. While the law allows pet ownership in rented homes, it’s essential to ensure the care and maintenance of your furry friend.
Before moving into your rented pet-friendly home, there are a few important points to consider:
Lifestyle Choices
Evaluate alternative care options for your pet when you work or travel.
Determine the amount of time you can dedicate to caring for your pet.
The Home You Live in
Review your rent agreement for pet ownership restrictions specific to your city or province.
Assess the available space in your home to accommodate the pet you plan to bring.
Factor in Costs
Take note of any unanticipated costs during your pet’s lifetime.
Create a list of all the annual expenses of owning a pet, including food, vaccinations, and other miscellaneous costs.
Owning a pet requires a significant commitment, and it’s essential to be prepared for the financial and time obligations that come with it. Now, let’s explore the best pet-friendly housing choices and costs associated with renting with pets in Canada.
The Best Pet-Friendly Home Choices for Rent
When seeking pet-friendly houses for rent in Brampton, your housing choice significantly influences your furry friend’s comfort. Let’s explore ideal options for pet owners:
Townhomes and Detached Homes:
Townhomes and detached homes are perfect for pet owners craving spacious backyards. These homes provide ample indoor and outdoor room for activities. Consider breeds like Boxers, Border Collies, and Huskies. Friendly and intelligent breeds such as Vizslas, Beagles, and Golden Retrievers make excellent companions for families with children.
Tumblr media
If you prefer relaxed moments with your pet, consider Newfoundlands or Bulldogs, who are known for being cuddlers.
Apartments and Condos:
Renting with pets becomes challenging in apartments and condos, as some landlords may have restrictions or additional fees.
Suitable breeds for apartment living include Pugs, Terriers, Corgis, Greyhounds, Great Danes, and Basenjis. Surprisingly, even larger breeds like Great Danes can adapt with sufficient exercise.
Cats are generally more adaptable and fit well in apartments. Ragdolls, Persians, and British Shorthairs are fabulous for relaxed companionship. More active cats like Burmese, Siberians, and Savannahs may prefer more spacious, pet-friendly homes.
Remember, your pet’s happiness depends on your home’s interactive bubble and physical space. If you are concerned about your cat’s attention, adopting another feline companion could be the solution.
Costs of Owning a Pet in Canada
Pet owners have several financial responsibilities, such as veterinary care, food, collars, toys, insurance and license costs.
If you’re considering becoming a dog parent, you must know the annual costs. According to the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA), the average cost of owning a dog in Canada is over CA$ 3,000 per year.
Compared to dogs, owning a cat in Canada is generally less expensive. The OVMA estimates the average annual cost of owning a cat to be about CA$ 2,000.
These costs are approximate and will vary depending on various factors, such as your pet’s breed, size, and individual needs.

How to Prepare Your Home for an Electrical Inspection
Adding electrical wiring or making upgrades in your Windsor home requires getting an electrical inspection performed afterward. This ensures all work meets the Ontario Electrical Safety Code. Failing an inspection means delays and having to bring in electrician services in Windsor again to make corrections.
Here is how to prepare your home to pass electrical inspection the first time:
Hire a Licensed Contractor
Only licensed electrical contractors can obtain permits or request inspections in Ontario. Working with a reputable Windsor electrical company like Thompson Electrical ensures your project meets all requirements. Licensed electricians know the code and standards for passing inspections. They pull the proper permits, have insurance, and guarantee their work. Trying DIY electrical work makes passing inspection far less likely. Leave it to seasoned professionals.
Tumblr media
Discuss the Scope of Work
Meet with your Windsor electrician beforehand to discuss your project and inspection details. Make sure you're on the same page about all work to be performed. Provide any drawings, permits numbers, or past inspection results. Understand what the electrician needs from you. Agree on inspection timing and who will be on site to meet the inspector. Proper planning prevents issues after construction.
Declutter the Work Areas
Inspectors need full access to all electrical boxes, wiring, panels, and connections. Remove furnishings, stored items, and decorations from a workspace before they arrive. Scrape off any old wallpaper or peeling paint around panels. Electricians may request you tidy clutter ahead of time so they can work efficiently as well. A clean canvas allows for thorough inspection.
Keep Pets Secured
To prevent any safety issues, keep pets away from the inspector. Secure dogs outside or in crates and isolate curious cats in one room during the inspection. You don't want pets underfoot getting in the way or distracting the inspector from checking the electrical system. Inform inspectors ahead of time about any pets on site so proper precautions can be taken.
Ensure Proper Lighting
Proper visibility ensures inspectors won't miss any key details. Replace any burnt out bulbs and make sure all light fixtures in the work area are functioning. Open window coverings to maximize natural light. Bring in portable task lighting if needed. Provide the inspector a flashlight or headlamp if inspecting dark areas like attics or crawlspaces. Quality lighting aids inspection.
Keep Areas Accessible
Inspectors need to access electrical panels, wiring, receptacles, and boxes up close. Don't block access with ladders, tools, or building materials. Remove covers beforehand so junction boxes are visible. Provide ladders or lifts to reach high ceilings from which fixtures will be inspected. Inform inspectors about any access issues ahead of time. Easy access makes inspection smoother.
Tumblr media
Review Your Checklist
Keep handy the pre-inspection checklist provided by your Windsor electrical permit office. These highlight the key components inspectors examine, like GFCI and AFCI protection, wire and breaker sizes, outlet spacing, junction boxes, approved materials, and more. Review the checklist and ensure all requirements are clearly met. Ask electricians to verify compliance for peace of mind.
Be Present and Communicate
As the homeowner, try to be present for the electrical inspection. You can answer questions and provide access to areas as needed. If unavailable, have your adult representative on site who can speak to details of the work performed. Politely communicate any concerns or issues to the inspector to remedy on the spot. Staying involved in the process helps ensure a smooth inspection.
Review Results and Make Corrections
Pay close attention as the inspector tests wiring and notes any deficiencies. Discuss on site which items need reworking to meet code compliance. If available, your Windsor electrician can make minor corrections immediately to pass inspection that day. For larger issues, they'll need to return and fix errors prior to scheduling a re-inspection. Stay positive and focus on proper safety.
Leave Inspector Contact Info
Before the inspector leaves, get their business card or contact details. That way if any questions come up afterwards, you can easily reach out for clarification on next steps. They can provide guidance on proper corrections to avoid future failures. Having a direct contact helps keep projects moving forward efficiently toward the final approved inspection.
Passing electrical inspection ensures your Windsor home's electrical system is safe and meets the highest standards. Preparing properly avoids delays, rework, and extra costs down the line. Work closely with professional electrician services in Windsor like Thompson Electrical to handle your next electrical project right from the start.

Your Guide to Understanding Renters Insurance: Protecting Your Belongings and Peace of Mind
The Importance of Renters Insurance
Picture this scenario: a sudden pipe burst in your apartment damages your electronic devices, furniture, and valuable possessions. Without renters insurance ontario, you would be responsible for replacing everything out of your own pocket. Renters insurance acts as a safety net, providing financial protection and peace of mind in such situations. It's not just a luxury; it's a necessity that every renter should seriously consider.
What Is Renters Insurance and How Does It Work?
Renters insurance is a type of coverage designed specifically for tenants who are renting a home or apartment. It offers financial protection for your personal belongings in the event of unexpected events, such as theft, fire, vandalism, or natural disasters. Additionally, renters insurance includes liability coverage, which safeguards you if someone is injured while visiting your rented property.
Types of Coverage Offered by Renters Insurance
Personal Property Coverage
Personal property coverage is the cornerstone of renters insurance ontario. It reimburses you for the cost of repairing or replacing your belongings, including furniture, clothing, electronics, and more, if they are damaged or stolen.
Liability Coverage
Liability coverage steps in to cover legal and medical expenses if someone is injured on your rented property. It also includes property damage caused by you, your family members, or even your pets.
Additional Living Expenses (ALE) Coverage
If your rented property becomes uninhabitable due to a covered event, ALE coverage helps pay for temporary living expenses such as hotel stays, meals, and other necessary costs.
Why Do You Need Renters Insurance?
Many renters mistakenly believe that their landlord's insurance will cover their personal belongings. However, this is rarely the case. Your landlord's insurance typically only covers the physical structure of the building, not your individual items. Renters insurance fills this gap, ensuring that your belongings are protected from unforeseen circumstances.
Determining the Right Coverage Amount
Calculating the appropriate coverage amount involves taking an inventory of your possessions and estimating their total value. This ensures that you're adequately covered and can replace your belongings without financial strain in case of a covered event.
Common Myths About Renters Insurance Debunked
There are several misconceptions surrounding renters insurance that can prevent individuals from obtaining the coverage they need. Let's debunk some of these myths to help you make an informed decision.
How to File a Renters Insurance Claim: Step-by-Step Guide
In the unfortunate event that you need to file a renters insurance ontario claim, it's essential to know the proper steps to take. Here's a detailed guide to help you navigate the claims process smoothly.

"Man Held for Attempted Jailbreak and Those Who Figured in His Capture," Windsor Star. October 29, 1943. Page 5. ---- ATTEMPTED delivery of two Windsor men from Kent County jail at Chatham was foiled by Governor Philip J. Daigneau when he discovered Daniel James Payne of Windsor astride the circular stone wall at the jail seen in the picture at the upper left. At the upper right Mr. Daigneau is seen with his pet dog who was with him when he dis- covered the attempted break. At the lower left is Mr. R. D. Scott of the staff of the Canadian Bank of Commerce, who lives near the jail, and who responded to Mr. Daigneau's shouts for help. Lower centre shows in the foreground Sergeant David Duncan of the Ontario Provincial Police at Windsor. Behind Sergeant Duncan is Payne hidden by his hat which he held up over his face. In the background at the right is another prisoner charged with a minor offence. Payne was being taken from the city police station to the county jail after being questioned by detectives. An attempt to take another photo of Payne as he came out of the police car in front of the county jail was stopped by Sheriff E. W. Hardey, who stood in front of the camera until the prisoner was "safely inside the jail. At the lower right is Mr. N. H. Plomiey, Chatham insurance agent, who also responded to Mr. Daigneau's call for aid. Mr. Plomley, who is officer commanding the Chatham Frontiersmen, searched Payne for weapons while Mr. Daigneau kept the prisoner covered with his revolver. Investigation is continuing today.
/// "Attempted Jail Delivery At Chatham Investigated," Windsor Star. October 29, 1943. Page 5. ---- ROPE LADDER, LONG STICK, REVOLVER AND OPEN WINDOW FIGURE IN INQUIRY ---- From Chatham Bureau of The Windsor Star CHATHAM, Oct. 29 - As Windsor and Chatham provincial and city police pressed an investigation into the attempted jail delivery of Allen Baldwin and Franklin Smith, of Windsor, additional precautions were taken at the historic Kent County jail here. Last night flood lights were installed to throw powerful light on the grounds and walls of the jail, and extra guards were given the jail governor.
QUIZ WINDSOR MAN Police have been questioning Daniel J. Payne, of Windsor, who is held and charged with the attempted rescue of Baldwin and Smith who are awaiting trial in December after being committed for the armed robbery of the Royal Bank at Wheatley on September 10 last. Payne is believed to be the dupe for a gang which waited in an automobile beside the jail while he tried to get weapons in to Baldwin and Smith.
The investigation into one of the He most sensational crimes in this county's history added another leaf to the Baldwin-Smith book which is growing in incidents rapidly since Baldwin was arrested and charged with receiving tires stolen in Windsor and for which he was recently sentenced to four years in Kingston penitentiary.
NEW PHASES Some new phases of the attempted jailbreak came today as police worked on the case. It became known that when over $34.000, said to be the the intended delivery was exceedingly largest sum ever stolen from a bank carefully planned and that it came not in Ontario, was taken, Baldwin was unexpectedly to authorities. Found after Payne was taken by Jail Governor Phil Daigneau on top of the Seventh street wall of the stone jail house was a rope ladder which was ingeniously contrived.
It was knotted to form steps for a climber and at one end was a pipe several feet long, covered with something like burlap. The pipe was thrown over the wall and provided the leverage with which a climber could pull him self up. It appeared that Payne couldn't have got beyond the top of the wall as the pipe end was inside and would have to be reversed if he were inside wanting to climb out.
Also found was a long stick, like a clothes pole, which had a contrivance on one-end into which a revolver fit ted nicely. Police believed this was to be used to shove a revolver through a barred jail window to the prisoners inside. Also found was a revolver.
The Star learned that a window in Baldwin's cell opened into the en closure formed by the yard wall and the building wall and it was said that $1,000 cash bail. on recent nights he had insisted it opened to let air get in. When questioned after the attempted rescue during which Governor Daigneau several shots at a fleeing car, Baldwin is said to have denied any knowledge of the affair.
Authorities had been watching the jail carefully for some time and special guards were in the jail when the attempt occurred. Police also held the opinion that a further attempt is not beyond possibility. In fact, some of them were inclined to look for a repetition and even a daylight try.
Late yesterday, after being questioned by Sergeant Dave Duncan and Constable Len Neil, of the Provincial Police in Windsor, Payne was removed from the city police station to the county jail. He showed little concern about what was going on, except to cover his face with his hat when Doug Kennedy, a Star photographer, flashed a picture of him as he emerged from the police station with plainclothesmen.
Crown Attorney A. Douglas Bell, K.C.. said last night that the case stood today just where it had yesterday and that no new charges are contemplated at the moment. No immediate arrests are believed imminent.
OFFICERS PRAISED Praise for both city and provincial police was given here yesterday by Jail Governor Daigneau who said they were speedily on the scene after the attempted delivery. Some of them, like Constable Jack Bain, of the O.P.P.. and Detective Jack Harrington, of the Chatham force, wen: sleepless all night and remained on the job again all day yesterday.
The rescue try culminated a series of major crime events in which Allen Baldwin allegedly has been involved has a long previous record of serious crime convictions in Canada and the United States and is a native of Amherstburg. First he was apprehended and charged with receiving stolen tires which he left with Oliver Deziel, Tilbury garageman, who yesterday was convicted for receiving the same tires. After trial, Baldwin was convicted and sentenced by Mr. Justice Keiller Mackay in Supreme Court here to four years at Portsmouth.
After the bank robbery at Wheatley arrested with Smith, Leo Dubroy, Vernard Gates and Peter Devlin and charged with the crime. After several remands, the preliminary hearing was held here about a week ago and all five were sent up for trial by Magistrate Ivan B. Craig.
FIGURED IN CRASH Early in the case, when Baldwin was being brought here with the others from Windsor for a hearing, the car bringing them was in a smashup near Windsor and some injuries were suffered by police officers.
Baldwin's name in particular has become one of the most notorious in Kent County since he was first brought here for trial. And he is still to be tried on the robbery charge. That case comes before County Judge H. E Grosch at general sessions of the peace in a jury sitting beginning December 6.
Devlin and Dubroy are out on cash-bail of $2.000 apiece and Vernard Gates is out on $16,000 property and $1,000 cash bail.
Another phase of the case came up today when Harold and Gerald Gates, brothers of Vernard, appeared in police fired court on a charge of receiving money stolen in the robbery. They were remanded for a further appearance,

I found the list of what essential businesses is going to stay open in Ontario during the lockdown (source Toronto Sun)
— Supply chain operations: Any business that allows others to operate by supplying, “systems or services, including processing, packaging, distribution, delivery and maintenance.”
— Retail operations that supply essentials: This includes grocery stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, pet food and animal supplies operations, beer, wine and liquor stores and alcohol producers as well as cannabis retailers and producers.
— Transportation essentials: Gas stations, diesel, propane and heating fuel providers including providers of motor vehicle, aircraft and water/marine craft fuels, auto-supply, auto and motor-vehicle-repair.
— Other retail: Everything from hardware stores to office supply operations and safety supply stores that sell work clothes and personal protective equipment.
— Hospitality: Restaurants remain exempt from closure if they provide take-out or delivery options. Hotels, motels and student residences are also exempt.
— Maintenance: Cleaning services, sprinkler, HVAC, escalator and elevator technicians. Building engineers, property management services, plumbers, electricians and security services.
— Media and telecommunications: Newspapers, radio and TV operations. Businesses providing or supporting IT services and telecommunications services such as phone, internet, radio, cell phones.
–Transportation: Taxis or other such services, trucking services that facilitate trade, businesses that provide materials and services for the operation, maintenance and safety of transportation systems including road, transit, rail, air and marine.
— Manufacturing: Businesses that extract, manufacture, process and distribute goods, products, equipment and materials, including businesses that support and facilitate the two-way movement of essential goods within integrated North American and global supply chains.
— Agriculture: Businesses that farm, harvest, process, manufacture, produce or distribute food as well as those that support the agricultural sector.
— Construction: Most construction projects in the province will continue including those dealing with health care, transportation, industrial and residential sectors.
— Finance: The Toronto Stock Exchange, the banking sector, insurance, employee pension and benefit plans will all continue.
— Health care: This includes hospitals, doctors offices, labs, manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and retailers of pharmaceutical products and medical supplies.
Now, I might not be seeing it, but reading this makes it look like not much is closed down at all.

WHAT TO DO IN CASE YOU GET CORONAVIRUS
IMPORTANT PART HERE FOLKS
I copied and pasted this ....good info from a nurse.
WHAT TO DO IN CASE YOU GET CORONAVIRUS
I know we’re all tired of hearing/talking about it, but one thing I HAVEN’T really seen going around is advice for what happens if you DO get coronavirus (many of us will), only advice for how to try to AVOID it. So as your friendly neighborhood RPN, a wee thread:
Things you should actually buy ahead of time (Erm, not sure what the obsession with toilet paper is?): Kleenex, Acetaminophen (Tylenol) in 350 mg tablets, Ibuprofen (Advil) in 200 mg tablets, Mucinex, Robitussin or DayQuil/NyQuil, whatever your cough medicine of choice is.
If you don’t have a humidifier, that would also be a good thing to get. (You can also just turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom breathing in the steam).
Also a good time to make a big batch of your favorite soup to freeze and have on hand. not a cook? ask a friend, share the cost, split the batch. or stock up on cans or packets of soup.
If you have a history of asthma and you have a prescription inhaler, make sure the one you have isn’t expired and refill it/get a new one if it is.
You basically just want to prepare as though you know you’re going to get a nasty respiratory bug like bronchitis or pneumonia. You just have the foresight to know it’s coming.
For symptom management, use the meds I mentioned. For a fever over 101, alternate Tylenol and Advil so you’re taking a dose of one or the other every 3 hours. Use both cough suppressants and expectorants (most cough meds have both). Drink a ton, hydrate hydrate. Rest lots.
You should not be leaving your house except to go to the doctor, and if you do, wear a mask (regular is fine, you don’t need an N95). You DO NOT NEED TO GO TO THE ER unless you are having trouble breathing or your fever is very high and unmanaged with meds.
90% of healthy adult cases thus far have been managed at home with basic rest/hydration/over-the-counter meds. We don’t want to clog the ERs unless you’re actually in distress. The hospital beds will be used for people who actively need oxygen/breathing treatments/IV fluids.
If you have a pre-existing lung condition (COPD, emphysema, lung cancer) or are on immunosuppressants, now is a great time to talk to your PCP or specialist about what they would like you to do if you get sick. They might have plans to get you admitted and bypass the ER entirely.
One major relief to you parents is that kids do VERY well with coronavirus— they usually bounce back in a few days, no one under 18 has died, and almost no kids have required hospitalization (unless they have a lung disease like CF). Just use pediatric dosing of the same meds.
Pls pass this information around.
in ontario, the current info is that if you are showing signs of illness you think might be covid19. you need to call health authority, you will be advised on steps to take.
kingston area update call your health provider for instructions. information is fluid, but currently states that "Not everyone can or will be tested"
The following groups will be tested:
Individuals admitted to hospital with acute respiratory illness
Health care workers with acute respiratory illness
Other vulnerable populations (e.g., individuals with acute respiratory illness who reside in long term care homes and retirement homes)
Individuals with acute respiratory illness who reside in other institutions with unavoidable close contact (e.g., university and college residences and Corrections services)
First Nation Community members living on-reserve with acute respiratory illness
Anyone in any of the above groups, who is experiencing symptoms (fever, cough, difficulty breathing), should call their health care provider, Telehealth Ontario, or KFL&A Public Health.
Other individuals with mild symptoms are advised to stay at home until they have been symptom-free for a full 24 hours. If you are experiencing moderate to severe respiratory symptoms call your health care provider for direction. "
**outside of canada, the usa is still very limited in testing options. some cities have moved fwds with containment plans. call or google your city +covid19
some cities have amazing plans in place, listen to your team, do what they advise. Also let your personal team know what is happening so you, your pets and loved ones can be cared for.
social distancing and home isolation can work for some, for others with more intense symptoms, or other health conditions, may need to go to their local covid center and get on the grid for more advanced medical care.
IF you are sick, contact your dr ASAP. let them help you determine what your next steps are.
I know it can be quite scary if you dont have medical insurance, or sufficient coverage, and with the way things are, you might be concerned about lost wages, about the treatment bills etc.
PLEASE do not wait to seek initial stages of care, do not wait untill the last possible moment to show up at an ER. this may cost your long term health outcome, and will only add to the current issues of too many people not enough beds.
The most important thing is to A. tell someone a friend or family member you are ill. enlist their help if needed to contact your local health service or medical team.
b. remember for many, it will just be time and annoyance to recover. for many others the illness will need advanced care!
c. ASK for HELP. you are not in this alone.

Happy New Year! 2019 Reflections, 2020 Resolutions
This is the time of year to reflect on everything that has happened in the past year and look forward to the new year and perhaps make some resolutions. We are also entering a new decade, which is something that I have never thought much of in the past. The 2010’s have been interesting and life changing for me that is for sure. Going back even further to the beginning of the millennium, it’s certainly been quite a journey. 1999 was the year that I took up theatre as an adult so 2019 marks the 20th year that I have been doing theatre. It has been quite a ride and the road has been long, winding, and often quite bumpy! Relationships, pets and business ventures have come and gone, whereas other aspects of my life have remained constant or improved.
In 2018, I had made a commitment to myself that whenever I had money to spare I would enroll in classes and workshops for acting or personal development. I got 2019 off to a good start by taking the Essentials of Film and TV class at Company of Rogues starting in January. That month I also volunteered as an usher for the One Yellow Rabbit High Performance Rodeo. My blog post about the festival resulted in a feature on me as a volunteer in the One Yellow Rabbit newsletter. Rehearsals also started that month for Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Princess Ida” with Morpheus Theatre. I also started as a volunteer with the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS), mostly as a cat caregiver. I volunteer at the animal shelter about 2 to 3 times a month.
I turned 45 years old in February. I also took a stunt combat workshop with Adrian Young Action Services which was fantastic. I also did a story slam workshop one evening which was something a bit different as I had never done any sort of oral storytelling before. I also participated in the Dead Cold Run, a 5K run in South Glenmore Park. I am looking forward to completing the run again in 2020.
Tumblr media
In March I joined the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers (CSIF). To date, I haven’t done much with my membership other than volunteer one evening, but the intention to do more with it and get involved is there! I took Bruce Horak’s creative workshop, Tendencies, which was fun and I also volunteered as an usher for the Festival of Animated Objects which was very enjoyable. I also participated in the Rogers Insurance Run for L’Arche and ran my first 5-mile race (8K), a new distance record for me. March also was the official end of my relationship with my boyfriend of the past 4 years.
Tumblr media
Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Princess Ida” with Morpheus Theatre opened in April and ran until May for a total of 14 performances. I participated in the Onesie Run in Prince’s Island Park and also started seeing my current boyfriend during this month.
Tumblr media
In May, “Princess Ida” finished its run.  I started getting regular IATSE 212 stage call work. The film industry was getting busy so permittees such as myself were able to get more work. I took the Bouffon Intensive Masterclass workshop this month which fulfilled its promise of pushing my boundaries and challenging me as a performer. I also participated in the Rocky Mountain Soap Company’s Fast and Female women’s run (completing the 5K distance) in Canmore. This was challenging as there were hills and Canmore is at a higher altitude. I hope to participate in it again in 2020.
Tumblr media
In June, I ran my first 10K in the Huntington’s Run for Hope, I also started to work on the summer trains for Aspen Crossing and did a day on set as background for Tribal. I also volunteered at Horror Con selling tickets. This was also the month I started to put the wheels in motion to find employment within the film industry, submitting my application for permittee status with IATSE 212 in film.
In July, I started a series of vocal lessons with Naomi Williams. I took the set etiquette workshop with IATSE 212, a requirement for the film permit and at the end of the month I took the production assistant workshop with the Director’s Guild of Canada, Alberta District Council. July was also a great month for stage calls with IATSE due to the Calgary Stampede. During the Stampede this year, my boyfriend and I checked out several bands on the Coca-Cola Stage - Metric, Bishop Briggs, Dear Rouge and Death Cab for Cutie - and played the midway.
At the beginning of August, I was offered a role in “Babette’s Feast” with Fire Exit Theatre, which I of course accepted. I did the performer set etiquette course offered by ACTRA and also did a couple of days as a background performer on “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”. I did a road trip with my boyfriend to Grande Prairie to see his parents, returning to Calgary via BC, staying in the fabulous Three Valley Lake Chateau for the last night. At the end of the month, I left the legal industry for good and began work as a production assistant in the locations department on a TV series called “A Teacher” which was shooting until October.
Tumblr media
In September, I participated in the Pride Parade with ACTRA and DGC. Rehearsals started for “Babette’s Feast” and I would be playing Babette. I went to Ontario to visit my family for my Dad’s 80th birthday. My sister was also there and I hadn’t seen her for 15 years so it was a fantastic reunion.
In October, I worked on the Train of Terror as a scarer for Aspen Crossing. I also had a day on set as a background performer for “A Teacher” and towards the end of the month worked as a locations PA on a Canadian feature film called “Chasing Justice”.  I also accepted a role in “Clue: The Musical” with Dewdney Players. I also got to see Morrissey and The Interrupers live in concert this month.
In November, I took the mermaid course with Adventures in Scuba. I did a day on set as a background performer for “Winter in Vail”, a Hallmark movie. I also had a few IATSE stage calls.

In December, “Babette’s Feast” with Fire Exit Theatre opened at the Engineered Air Theatre in Arts Commons and ran for 7 performances. I also worked on the Polar Express for Aspen Crossing. On a personal note, I also made the last payment on my car loan.
Generally, over 2019, I formed and maintained some great habits. I was happy to have continued regular exercise and increase my running distance, however, after I stopped being a full-time office employee with access to a gym at lunch, I stopped running for a few months. It was also difficult to maintain an exercise program when working 14-hour days on set as a PA, however locations work can be physically demanding and IATSE stage calls certainly are. I discovered that I enjoy physical work much more than office work - it’s great to get paid to work out! I have recently started to run again and finding the 5K distance easy to do and looking forward to all the races that I can participate in next year.
I am happy to say that auditioning has become a habit. I auditioned a lot last year. It took 18 auditions (screen and stage) before I was offered a role in “Babette’s Feast”. The role of Babette was definitely worth persisting for, because I admit, after rejection after rejection, that negative little voice inside my head kept suggesting I give up, that being an actor is too hard. I am glad that tenacity took over and I kept on going. As far as auditioning goes, I felt very happy that I was invited to audition for Vertigo Theatre twice last year. Those experiences have made auditions in general easier and not so scary. I have three theatre auditions lined up for January 2020 already.
Writing is developing as a habit. I have been keeping a journal on and off since a teenager and I try to write in my journal every morning. I completed a short story in November, which I submitted for a competition (still waiting to hear), and am working on several scripts. I am learning to focus more and work on one project at a time - taking on too many projects has definitely been my downfall in the past and I have many incomplete ones.
I have also seen a lot of live theatre this year. 52 shows!  I have been able to see this many shows as I volunteer as an usher as much as I can. I have learnt so much as a performer and writer from the shows that I have had the privilege of seeing this year. Here in Calgary we certainly have a vibrant scene both amateur and professional. There seems to be a great demand for it as well as many shows sell out even with long performance runs. There was only one show that I did not really enjoy (which shall remain nameless - it was more to do with the actual story than the production itself), but my ten favourite shows this year were, in no particular order, “Cafe Daughter”, Alberta Theatre Projects (part of the High Performance Rodeo), “Deathtrap” - Vertigo Theatre, “Tria Fata” - La Pendue (part of the Festival of Animated Objects), “Giant” - Ghost River Theatre (part of the Festival of Animated Objects), “Avenue Q” - Front Row Centre Players, “Boom X” - Rick Miller at Theatre Calgary, “The Invisible” - Catalyst Theatre/Vertigo Theatre, “Iceland” - Theatre Calgary, “Monster” -  Seadreamer, and “A Christmas Carol” - Theatre Calgary. “Deathtrap” was my overall favourite for total entertainment value.
2019 was not a great year for real estate. It wasn’t for a lot of Realtors. For me, working full time and trying to run a business was not easy, but now I have the time to focus more energy into my business, to help more clients and hopefully bring more results!
2019 was a not a great year for me in terms of background work either, especially compared to 2018. I only had 5 days on set as a background performer this year. This is one of the reasons I decided to pursue work as a crew member, which I found fulfilled the desire to simply be on set.
So what does 2020 have in store for me? I guess I will have to wait and see with 20/20 vision! My main resolution is to continue with the work I have been doing. To keep exercising, keep running, ride Stardust more, more mermaiding, swimming, walking, exploring. For acting to keep taking workshops and classes when I can and keep auditioning and hopefully get more auditions in film and TV. I am going to continue to write and complete things, allowing others to read them. I have a short film script that I would love to see produced next year. I hope to do more real estate, more PA work, more IATSE work and more background work. I also want to travel. I would dearly love to go to Ontario for my mother’s 70th birthday in March and for my brother’s 40th in December. I also want to visit my cousin in New Mexico. But mostly I resolve to stay true to myself, to not accept second best and to keep striving for excellence, inspiring others and myself at the same time.
Happy New Year!

Tips To Keep In Mind When Hiring A Carpet Cleaning Company
Clean carpets are absolutely essential if you want a healthy and happy home. However, if you're like most people, you just don't have the time or desire to clean your own carpets. Thankfully, there are many carpet cleaning companies that you can easily hire that will get the job done for quite an affordable price. They also have heavy duty machinery that will ensure your carpets are professionally deep cleaned. If you have mystery stains or other problems with your carpet, they can surely help. With that said, we will now look at a couple of tips you should keep in mind when hiring a caret cleaning company such as Barrie Carpet Pros in Ontario, Canada.
First of all, you should determine exactly what services you need since carpet cleaners offer quite a few. For example, they will have services such as steam cleaning, carpet shampooing, pet stain removal, dry cleaning etc. If you're not sure what services you need, then a quick discussion with a company representative should help. You should ask about what are the basic services as well as what are their premium services. In most cases, carpet that is located in high traffic areas such as stairs or corridors usually need deeper treatments that are more expensive. You should also find out if there are any extra charges if furniture needs to be moved etc. It is also important to find out how long it will take for your carpets to dry and if you need extra ventilation for them to dry.
Tumblr media
Now, when you start looking for carpet cleaning companies, it is highly advisable that you ask for recommendations from friends or family. They will be able to tell you their experiences with specific companies which will help you to determine whether you should consider hiring them or avoid them. You should also look in the yellow pages for the companies in your area and do a quick Google search for past customer reviews. If you find lots of negative reviews, then definitely avoid hiring those companies.
It is important that you get a couple of estimates from different companies. This will ensure you don't spend more than you should and will give you a good idea on what to expect. You should get an estimate from at least three carpet cleaning companies. Each quotation should include details on the specific areas being cleaned and other related fees.
You should also check whether the company has insurance before they begin working on your carpets. You need to ensure they have personal liability and property damage insurance. This will protect you in the event that a worker gets hurt or a part of your property becomes damaged. You should make sure that each employee working in your home is fully insured or else you may be liable.
In closing, we have just looked at a few tips you should keep in mind when hiring a carpet cleaning company. Be sure that you properly protect your home before the cleaners enter your home and securely store any valuables. Once you follow these tips, I'm certain you'll hire a great company that will do a great job on your carpets.

A Few Things You Should Do Before Air Duct Cleaning
Before hiring a professional air duct cleaning company, you should do a few things to prepare your home. These include ensuring that the company is licensed and insured. Also, you should remove any furniture or other objects that will get in the way of the ducts.
Tumblr media
Prepare for a professional air duct cleaning
Before hiring a professional air duct cleaning London service, prepare your home for the cleaning process. For example, remove any items from the areas near the vents that could interfere with the cleaning process. Also, get rid of any pet hair from rugs, furniture, and clothes.
After a professional air duct cleaning service arrives, you should give the workers a place to use the washroom and sanitary supplies. If you can, prepare the washroom for them. It may be helpful to cover the surfaces with plastic to prevent any accidents, and you may want to give them a thorough clean of the area after the cleaning is complete.
Hire a company with experience
Before hiring an air duct cleaning service, it's important to check the company's reputation. An experienced company will have a long history of satisfied customers and should be able to provide references if necessary. Also, look for a company that offers upfront pricing and offers warranties. Lastly, choose a company that uses environmentally friendly methods. For example, hot water extraction and dry ice blasting are both effective ways of cleaning air ducts without harming your property or your health.
When hiring a company to clean your air ducts, ask them to provide you with a written quote. Ask about the level of cleaning required for your air ducts, and if they offer any add-on services. Some companies will even offer to remove mold from the ducts.
Check for licensing
Before you hire a professional air duct cleaning company, you should check their licensing status. Most states require air duct cleaners to have a license. The EPA's website provides more information on license requirements. Licensed air duct cleaners are better than unlicensed ones, as they can uphold a standard of quality.
A licensed air duct cleaner is trained to perform their job properly. They are also required to carry insurance and maintain their licenses. This type of insurance is important in case of an accident or injury.
Ask about insurance
When selecting a company for your air duct cleaning needs, ask about their insurance coverage. It's not uncommon for accidents to happen and while some air duct cleaning companies may not have insurance, you'll still want to be protected in case of damage. You should also make sure that they have a valid license.
It's a good idea to ask about background checks before hiring an air duct cleaning company. These companies may have employees who will be entering your home, and you want to make sure that they aren't a risk to your family. In addition, you want to make sure that the company has worker's compensation insurance.
Walk through your home with the technician
If you are planning to have air duct cleaning done in your home, it is a good idea to walk through it with the technician. This way, you can let them know about any areas of concern in your home and explain to them the process they'll follow. In addition, you can ask them to point out any areas they may have missed while scrubbing your home's air ducts.
Make sure the technician comes dressed in a uniform, complete with a name badge. He or she will also wear a mask and shoe covers. It's also a good idea to remove any obstructions from the ductwork in your home, including any tables or furniture that may impede the cleaning process.
