Convex in the Boatem Band au is basically:

Cub is a techie for the band, almost always joining them on tours or shows, and he's become sort of friends with the band itself.

Scar is the very charismatic and highly sought-after frontman and singer who could basically date anyone.

Yet, he very much prefers the more introverted nerdy techie, and he's got the most embarrassing crush on him.

By this point in the au, Grumbo is dating, and the two of them are trying their best to wingman Scar (they both suck a but at it).

Scar tries to flirt w Cub, but since that flirty personality is something he uses on stage, Cub is a tad bit put off.

It's not until Scar stops flirting, and the two of them end up as p good friends that Cub falls for him.

Scar's actual personality, and his inability to stop talking about Star Wars, is insanely endearing to Cub.

It's nice to see him as he is, rather than as the persona he puts up on stage.

the world is kept in modern times ableit not realistic, some people have hybrid body parts however it doesn't majorly affect their life, they're mostly just design choices

character roles (act 1):

- jingler: cub's persona, an undefeated supervillain, terrorizing the city for fun

- cub: scar's roommate, studied medicine but works retail, tired

- scar: cub's roommate, works at anything as anyone (barbie LOL) hence has money to support both him and cub, childhood best friend of mumbo and grian, extremely full of himself

- grian: a detective working on the case of the jingler, childhood best friend of mumbo and scar, crushes on bigb

- jangler: scar's hero persona, created for the sole purpose of fighting against the jingler, offers his help to grian (who in desperation, accepts)

- ren: in a day to day life he's the owner of the shop cub works at but has knowledge in spy gadgets, gets called for special jobs - currently working in espionage helping grain, has an unofficial thing going on with bigb

- doc: tech guy, met ren when he was tasked to create his prosthetic after an accident in the past, currently working in general tech helping grian, (later creates weapons for jangler to use)

- pearl: grian's boss, should've fired her on probably 5 different occasions

- iskall: villain (retired supervillain), currently focusing on robbery rather than causing chaos and violence

- mumbo: villain, iskall's sidekick, childhood best friend of scar and grian, was NOT made for the role of a villain but is scraping for money (rip), has no interest in harming anyone, he's just in for the cash

(they don't really go by any specific names and are rather seen as a complete duo of vault busters)

- stress: retired supervillain (who worked alongside iskall), currently living a peaceful life as an owner of a flower shop

- bigb: owner of a bakery, has an unofficial thing going on with ren, like the only genuine fan of the jangler

- false&jimmy: sheriffs (as in, police level) assigned the case of vault busters

(jimmy and lizzie are blood related and grian is their adopted sibling)

important events (act 1):

- scar and cub didn't know each other before living together. cub met scar one evening when the latter was going home after one of his many jobs, they briefly talked. scar spiked cub's interest as despite clear signs of a crime committed on his clothes were visible, scar didn't mention them at all. he later found out that scar was looking for a flatmate and offered himself.

- grian is overworked, not even close to revealing the identity nor capturing the jingler, without thinking too much about it she rambles about the case to scar whenever they meet for a friendly chat. that's when scar gets the idea to become the jangler ("someone would have to be insane enough to face jingler in combat") but not really because he cares about the greater good of the city - he sees it as an easy opportunity to get fame. [🟣][🟠]

- jangler would've easily lost to the jingler if it wasn't for the fact cub recognizes his roommate (it's painfully obvious really, he doesn't understand how no one else sees it, cartoon logic) and after some dodging he flees the battlefield leaving scar behind. for the first time, someone has survived a duel with the jingler.

- even though he never actually comes close to harming or even scathing the jingler, grian's new companion sparks fresh hope into her and the future of the case. her and her team of doc and ren start working on more complicated tech and weapons. (the success also makes grian not even consider scar to be the new hero. she greatly undermines his abilities).

- [ending of act 1]

jangler is awaiting the arrival of the jingler when the vault busters stumble upon him. past urges awaken in iskall as he senses a perfect opportunity to fight the only undefeated enemy of the jingler. long story short, they fight, mumbo messes up scar's face on accident (which leaves the left side of his face covered in burn scars), cub arrives and saves scar. [here's a fic of the scene written by our friend!]

character roles (act 2):

- cub: scar's boyfriend with no genuine feelings of love towards him, treats scar as his science project

- scar: cub's partner, borderline obsessed with him, craves all his attention

- jangler: now a supervillain working alongside cub, loves playing with fire

- ren: fucking dead (the jingler kills him 🙏)

- grian: a detective throughout the first half of the act. after jangler leaves and ren dies, the case is in shambles; gets demoted to vault busters' case and false with jimmy take her place

- mother spore: grian's vigilante persona, created after her demotion and finding out the identities of jingler and jangler. decides to take matters in her own hands and forms the resistance

- joe: silly character with massive plot armor [best explained here], film uni student who wants to make a movie about jingler and jangler for their thesis, best friend of cleo

- cleo: film directing student at the same uni as joe, accompanies him in his observations and recordings, admires jingler's ability to unnoticeably lead a performance, best friend of joe

- stress: accidentally gets roped into grian's resistance, reveals her knowledge of heroes and villains

- mumbo: the wettest rag of a character, gets his leg chopped off by the jangler (😢), retires as a villain after that

- iskall: after mumbo gets injured he blames himself for it (it's the second time his companion suffers meanwhile he leaves unscathed) - he turns himself in

- jimmy: now working on the main case, convinced there's a thing between him and scar - scar however uses jimmy's infatuation to gather information that might help him and cub [🟠]

- bigb: ren's death takes a huge toll on him, grian gets closer to him

important events (act 2)

- after the fight with vault busters, cub saves scar and takes him to his hiding spot. he reveals his identity and offers scar to join him instead. cub tells scar how actually weak he is and that people don't consider him great. he also offers that beside him, he will get a taste of real fame.

- scar and cub burn the old outfit of the jangler together. it awakens scar's love for fire meanwhile cub showcases and offers the new suit - revealing his plan has been in the making for a while. [🔵]

"Scar treats being the Jangler as a performance. He doesn’t really treat all the atrocities he commits with the seriousness they should have."

- in the meantime while scar heals, jingler keeps on the down low but isn't restless. during one of his shifts cub messes up and while chatting with ren, mentions information about the latest doings of the jingler only classified people would have access to. he's forced to and murders ren.

- grian is the person to break the news to bigb. they become closer.

- scar makes sure to make his return and reveal a big thing. the jingler calls grian and doc to announce he's holding the jangler hostage. upon arrival, they reveal there's no hostage. scar only craved an audience. after this scene, grian loses the case.

- the jangler takes mumbo's leg just basically as a revenge. lol. he didn't want to kill him but wanted to make him never forget.

- joe becomes one of the victims of jingler and jangler. or better said, was supposed to. the guy doesn't seem to be able to die and after a while the duo becomes so fascinated by him they just let him live. he offers to make a film about them, thinking of them more of as actors than threat. cub out of curiosity and sheer ridiculousness agrees and scar considers what he's doing to be a performance anyways. (joe never finds out their identities though)

- scar and grian end up in an argument over jimmy and cub which results in scar revealing to be the jangler. he promises grian that he will kill her. you can read a fic of this scene here!

- after finding out about mumbo's injury iskall feels incredibly guilty and turns himself in. he's judged only for his present crimes and gets a community work sentence (grian figures out mumbo must've been the other vb member but stays quiet. how she isn't fired is anyone's guess).

- cub and scar go into hiding and grian decides to take matters into her own hands, directly this time. she forms the resistance and mother spore.

once again, a big fight, jingler and jangler are against the resistance (yet again)

this time the resistance comes out as victorious and the fight ends in cub getting gravely injured and scar turning himself in, considering it the better option than letting cub die.

act III (general info)

[this part is still a big work in progress so not many things are settled on]

- the main premise is basically that scar and cub end up in jail (losers). cub loses an eye after the fight with grian (both him and scar losing what matters more to each of them - cub utility and scar, appearance).

- scar doesn't cope well with being away from cub and not knowing his state

- false and jimmy interrogate them

- they manage to escape but as i said, it's only a brief outline, no details on when and how yet

did u relate a lot to joel smallishbeans and that's the reason why there's a streak in ur sona's hair? blue/ turquoise/cyan streak (pls dont pulverize me idk my colours) or was that design choice unassociated with smallbeans? or perhaps subconscious?

nah that’s a coincidence, honestly when i was designing a vex version of my sona i got the streak idea from bee’s boatem knights au designs for vex scar and cub, their hair turns pale when they go Vex Mode™ but if they’re at the sort of halfway point they just have streaks in their hair and i thought it was a rlly cool idea. my sona’s hair doesnt turn completely blue but he does get more blue streaks when he’s in angry vex mode :3

i relate to joel i think bc of the whole. having this sort of sarcastic ironic funny persona that is you but also not really, and ur actually rather introverted

Roller blades touched the ground and Grian laughed. He'd just landed a backflip, maybe not quite where he intended, but he landed. And now the momentum was keeping him rolling along the Boatem pavements.

Scar caught Grian by the waist as he rolled past, picking him up off the ground.

"Scar-!"

Once Grian was no longer struggling in his arms, Scar quickly put him down and pushed him up against the wall to prevent escape. If Grian was given a moment to escape he would take it, Scar knew, and he would fly off, throwing himself through the sky at break neck speeds.

Racing with Grian was always exhilarating.

"Hello, Grian."

Hands slipped under Grian's shirt, resting against his spine.

"Hey, Scar."

"I have a question." Scar murmured into Grian's ear.

Grian gave a breathy laugh. "Ask away."

"Why did 'Ariana' cover up my art?"

Grian groaned in annoyance and pushed his head back against the wall.

"I didn't. Some kid out there decided to paint over it with an obnoxious tag. I was covering their work up."

"Oh. I was trying to figure out why you called it rude. Who are they with?"

Grian couldn't help the little wince he gave when Impulse landed on the exact rail he'd missed just moments before.

"Dunno, never seen their style before. Hopefully 'Ari' going out of her way to tell them off will scare them."

Scar pulled away, leaving both disappointed by the loss of each other's warmth, and then Scar pulled Grian out into the middle of the pavement and spun him around, making Grian smile.

"Either way, we'll get them." Scar grinned back. Then he stole a kiss and pushed Grian, causing him to slowly roll away. Once he was sure Scar was done with him, Grian was off, pink scarf fluttering in the wind.

Scar put his headphones back on, skating off in the other direction with an Ariana song playing in his ears. Maybe he could run into whoever it was himself.

Jet Set Radio kind of au anyone? Nope? Shame, I've already designed Griande.

I imagine whoever is encroaching on their territory is like... idk Tommy or something, but I don't intend on taking this any further than I already have at present.

The Boatem crew includes Cub (since he was right next to boatem during season 8 and also because convexian) but does not include Pearl, Pearl is a part of the Wither Roses, and the wither roses' territory is right next to boatem's, so they have an alliance. Pearl and Grian being siblings helps.

Grian sometimes dresses as Poultry Man or Griande as he runs around. Just takes on the personas. He is in fact actually Griande and the fact that the radio station everyone listens to plays his music so often is driving him crazy.

Every server roughly correlates to a district, with some alterations to who's in what gang.

so here we start, with mumbo as the dm. mostly put him in this position because he's ceo and i just think it would be funny tbh. mans (at the very start) is super nervous to dm but was reassured by the rest of boatem that he'd do a great job. it's a homebrew campaign, for mumbo's redstoner brain is amazing at creating, but there's a twist to it: he's tried to make every npc interaction not result in death, to keep in line with his peace, love and plants. he creates his own dm screen equipped with an illustration of the boatem hole and crew on the side visible to the players, and has his own physical manifestation of an initiative ordering system in the form of player heads on pegs. he gets gifted redstone dice by impulse that are his favourite and always roll the best.

grian! in this weird au i like to think he played once before but all the way back in evo and not in 5e, so he gets guidance from mumbo (and pearl) on what he should be and they both have a WAIL of a time being like yeah :) be an aarakocra :) goes thru the character creating motions and halfway thru he's like. these mfs this is a BIRD. but at this point he's too attached to this race so keeps being an aarakocra. plays true neutral but tries his hardest to find loopholes in mumbo's 'peace, love and plants' npcs but never succeeds. fighter that always forgets he has second wind, ends up multiclassing as a warlock but continually forgets to use his spells. mumbo creates little post-it reminders on his dm board that are mainly for grian. his character just about reaches 5ft

my first instinct with pearl is to say elf. a drow. with a backstory that her character used to hide it due to being born to a wealthy family from the product of an affair, but now she's out of that environment and flaunts her loud and proud drow self. pearl tossed and turned between rogue and warlock, but after seeing (helping with) grian's plans for the future of his character, decided to go with rogue. it fits with her hooded aesthetic anyways. chaotic neutral, because if she's going down this route then she may as well have fun rp-ing! in a previous campaign she took part in she played it more stern and serious, so why not have some fun now? (and yes that does mean joining in with the rest of the party to foil mumbo's 'peace, love and plants' npcs)

impulse - he's the only player that hasn't actually played dnd before. sure, he's seen tango and skizz and others play it before, sat there tinkering with redstone and managing to pick up the general premise of the game, so he gets started pretty easily. he chooses firbolg, because after mumbo he's the tallest out of boatem and, well, he's gotta keep some aspects of himself hasn't he? (it's his first time playing. first time characters kin yourself and all that). everyone comes to him begging to at least be any kind of lawful alignment, for he's the last to make his character and there needs to be at least some order in this party. he refuses. he plays a neutral good artificer, a mastermind inventor who will, uh, bend the rules every now and again. for good - he promises! it takes a little while for impulse to get into the swing of the game and roleplay, but once he's in he's in - and he makes metagaming plans with scar as to how they'll break the 'peace, love and plants' npcs.

and now for scar. he's played before, and the others know that, but they don't know that he has really played dnd before. he guesses (right) that the others are creating characters akin to themselves, so he decides to go ham. he creates a neutral evil dragonborn barbarian (because we should let the man rage) and absolutely has the time of his life. his dragonborn is copper (because why wouldn't it be?) and he is the one who finally succeeds in ruining mumbo's 'peace, love and plants' npcs, after a petty fight as well (scar placed his charisma score high for a barbarian. c'mon, he's gotta at least keep some parts of himself)

Is there any context for the Ariana and Scar ship art???? What??? Why??? I have so many questions

The context is like three months ago before I shipped Scarian I got bored at 2am and scrolled through the entire Scarian tag and found like. one post that suggested Scar/Ariana Griande but where Scar didn't know Grian was Griande and it latched onto my brain like headcrab and by the next day I had constructed an entire Hannah Montana au/fic concept frantically at work and was bribing my friend to write fic by drawing fanart. They haven't written it yet. I did make this sketchy mini comic tho

Long story short Grian flirts with Scar while in the persona of Ariana Griande as a joke and Scar falls for Griande in the process, fully unaware Grian was Griande. Grian sees Scar's like?? into it? and he's like "oh! okay cool" and then Grian finds out somehow Scar doesn't know he's Griande and he becomes very distraught about it and like. you know. angst i guess. "oh no Scar thinks I'm a completely different person!! He might not even be into men! How distressing! Scar isn't into me in the way I'm Into him!" and Scar is there like "Did you see how she was flirting with me? I think she's into me! however she is avoiding me now? I'm getting mixed signals here!"

This isn't very important but also Impulse is the only other member of Boatem who doesn't know Grian is Griande but he DOES know Grian has a crush on Scar so his "Don't worry! I'm sure it's just a celebrity crush, he'll get over it soon" is well intentioned but ultimately not the greatest. Pearl and Mumbo are Very Tired and are like "please just talk to Scar Grian. Grian please. stop moping. please. Grian"

I have a very distinct image in my head of a superhero AU where the Boatem crew are like the justice league and watchers are a super powered alien species that can like vaporize anything or some OP power set and Grian is a watcher. The kicker is, Grian's hero persona is poultry man who as far as anyone else knows is just a regular human in a chicken costumes that happens to be REALLY good a throwing eggs at people.

hold on that's SUCH a good concept for a fic though??? grian having like, the superman backstory, right - alien species, ends up on earth and becomes a... well he's grian so "good person" is a stretch but a very human person, for all he's an alien. and like, the boatem crew starts to form up to deal with superhero-level threats, and grian is just like. "i do not want anyone to know what level of alien i am" and then goes "I HAVE A SOLUTION" and becomes the Ordinary Human Poultry Man. and everyone fucking buys it because the rest of boatem are ALSO superheroes so even when he like. accidentally rips things off of their hinges or something. he's next to like... pearl, and her very flashy, insane, green-lantern-like powerset, and so he comes across like he's just a Dude.

basically if you write this au PLEASE TELL ME this sounds like something i would VERY MUCH like to read.

Mother Spore (They/Them)

Supposedly in their late 20s, but its questionable.

Has dragonfly wings and never shows their eyes. Has light skin with birthmarks. Has light brown, almost blonde, hair. Always wear lavender colors and a veil,

Runs a religious group, referred to as a mushroom cult by several officers and civilians, on Blackstone Avenue. Their place of worship is called a “Grove”, and Mother Spore is the name given to the persona as head of the Grove, and the religion in general.

They are a persona considered passive-aggressive, but motherly. Chaotic, but controlled and even poised. Very influential, but not on Ariana Griande’s scale. Is very intelligent as well, rivaling Grian Holmes. That or is a persona with a common sense filter.

Ok so I haven't seen much of your p5 boatem au but I really wanna know more about it so here's a bunch of questions, feel free not to answer if you dont want to: who's the wildcard? who are some of the non-thief confidants? who are some of the palace rulers? which one of them is the navigator? who's the akechi equivalent?

Mumbo is the wild card but he settles on using only a few personas

I was thinking of incorporating most if not all of the hermits here and there tbh and even making some of them part of the team on occasions

To be honest I started this au before finishing p5r but now that I have I can def make someone the akechi. For now thinking of scar since he has the superhero persona/image and I'd be fun to design him a second awakening to make callbacks on the life series as well, but we'll see, we'll see

thinking about a 1920s mob au with Mafia boss scar and grian who is the singer for the speakeasy and also a spy.

ariana griande is grian's drag persona that he uses while singing- the scarlet bird of the boatem district, and also will sometimes go out as to spy.

and well- scars absolutely smitten. despite the fact that with his good looks and charm he could get pretty much any girl or guy in the area, he's fallen for grian. grian, who is one of the most emotionally constipated people of all time.

but he can't deny how his heart races when grian lays his head in his shoulder late at night, can't deny that he loves how grian's perfume hangs in the air, can't deny how grian's slight flirts and teases make him the happiest man on this side of the city.

but then, a member of the mob turns up dead, and everything is turned upside down. new secrets come to light, and scar has to hope that he won't lose grian in the crossfire.

LOVE ME SOME GOOD OL 1920s MAFIA AU Grian going to Griande drag, going out to whatever party or get togethe to spy on other familes for Scar, get all the intel he needs to make sure his empire doesnt fall, or get damaged in anyways. hmhmh

But gods, oh maaan. The fact that Scar is sooo obviously madly in love with Grian, other people see it. Grian could be used against Scar for this and it could cause so many problems, hell it could be the reason one of their men turn up dead. It's a message. and Scar see's it loud and clear.

Scar internally frustrated at the fact that one: he's fallen for someone who works so closely with him that could be used to hurt him, and two: Grian is so stubborn and dead set on not having a body guard with him (I can kick anyone's ass you know this Scar) and just kinda refusing to believe he too loves Scar back just as much--
