I was questioning everything that's going on with Alice right now, because once again this episode threw me off (I swear I want to study her under a microscope at this point) and then I realized that maybe instead of focusing on what she was saying, per say, I could think of what she isn't; or rather how she's behaving in this episode.

'Cause I think this is the second time now that we see Alice trying to go behind someone's back after we had the first part of a conversation that didn't betray her "real want".

That is: so far, from what we heard about Colin and Alice, Colin likes Alice. They have a good working relationship, or so it seems, until suddenly Alice is asking Sam to go to Central IT because she thinks Colin might be messing things up on purpose. And she doesn't want that -- but she also doesn't want Colin to know that it's a specific worry of hers, so he can keep seeing her as a friendly figure.

Similarly, last episode - and all the ones beforehand, to be honest - Alice has seemed adamant that Sam should stop thinking about the cases so much. She keeps telling him to stop prying into stuff. But of course that means she can't go around asking Sam "what are your specific theories here, what did you say, specifically". So she has to go behind his back -- and asks Celia, pretending like she isn't already aware that Sam and her have talked a lot about work during their date. She has to ask on the off chance that Celia will reveal more to her. But WHY does she want that? Why does she need to know what Sam is obsessing over, all the while shutting down Sam's attempts to discuss it himself with her, which he has tried beforehand?

If anything, this episode just kind of confirms to me that Alice is doing something for the OIAR; of course I might be biased, because in my head I've already been imagining her as a "Internal liaison agent". Reporting/redirecting/assessing/protecting(?) the people who work here when they begin to... think/ask too much about everything that goes on here. But maybe i'm off-track and she's just got her own non-official secret, like the others do.

........................ Also I literally cannot decide if her last remarks were jokes to distract Celia from her feelings for Sam, jokes that hold some truth about possible feelings for Celia, or jokes to close a conversation in a way that lets on she was only prying for "sentimental" reasons and not for other more specific work reasons.

have you heard baccano! is going to be getting official audiobooks through yen press?

I've bought both the audiobooks of Volumes 1 and 2. The first, out of obligation. The second, also out of obligation. Honestly, I'm wondering whether I'll keep it up. Each audiobook is about $26 in American dollars. I have sunk a lot of money into Baccano! already, oop, we can admit that most of that money hasn't ever reached the chaps in Dengeki Bunko, or those FUNimation fellows, and I suppose one question is whether I'm willing to continue doinotg so.

"Put the money where it counts," eh?

(I've already paid for both the physical and electronic versions of these books. Now, audiobooks... Four audiobooks are one hundred a pop...? Argh.)

Monetary support is what demonstrates there's fan interest in the series surviving. Wah-hoh. You ask me about the audiobbooks? I was shocked by their happening.

I don't know anything about Yen Press' financial strategies concerning which series warrant audiobooks and which don't. Perhaps I know little about the correlation between audiobook greenlighting and sales in general. I mean, Yen Press refuses to reprint early Baccano! volumes, and now they're releasing audiobooks.

I'll tell you this: Murray giving Isaac and Miria posh accents is a little bit hysterical, by which I mean that it amuses me greatly. Sure, perhaps Isaac is implied to have Rich origins, but m'golly, the poshness of Isaac and Miria in the audiobook certainly offers a different veneer of perspective.

(I mean, don’t get me wrong, brilliant amazing spectacular showstopping never the same stunning delightful, 3000/10 highly recommend, and the closures on a few plot points certainly work where they ended up, and man oh MAN what an exceptional final episode, but there is absolutely one ENTIRE season of story left to wrap this up exquisitely!!)

Ok, been sitting on this for a while, been trying to talk myself out of it, but here goes.

The book doesn't sell me on the love Theoden had for Eowyn.

I tried to read it and find something in his actions towards her that tell me he has proper regard, proper respect for her, that gives any weight or meaning to his love for her, but I can't find anything. He dismisses her before the entire court, doesn't consider her an heir or a proper part of his house, and has to have her virtues called out to him by other people, when she has been serving him for years.

Return Of The King sees him spout platitudes and declare her "dearer than daughter", but none of this is backed up by his general actions to her.

He loves Eowyn, fine. But he doesn't love her the way he loves Eomer, or probably loved Theodred. He doesn't love her as a fully realised being. Nor as someone to take pride in and carry on his legacy. He loves her a crutch, a tool, and something between pet and person.

He has affection for Eowyn, but his love feels more like a trivial thing, than something with any real worth or regard to it.
