mark meta (and also a little bit of helly meta because i can't help myself) inspired by this post from @stewy referring to mark's grief as selfish (severance spoilers through s2 ep2)

outie mark says that only his grief counts, and as far as he’s concerned the matter has been dead and buried for some time now. devon saying they could get gemma back is an insult to her memory. she was a person (an extraordinary one); she was his wife; she died. that’s all there is to it. (all there can be to it, if he doesn’t want to be choking on her ghost for the rest of his life. he has to be able to exist without her.)

innie mark spends the first half of s2 ep1 saying that only his pain matters. he believes that life in hell is always better than no life at all, that there is always a life to be had, but he cannot bear hell without his team. the idea that they can just cease to be at the whims of their outies, that that's perfectly fine, is an insult to them. and so he exhumes them from their graves (and throws three other innies he didn't even attempt to get to know into the empty coffins). they’re people (not parts of people); they're his friends; they deserve to exist. that’s all there is to it. (he cannot exist without them.)

the fortunate thing for mark s. is that he doesn’t have to bear the (full) weight of the potential guilt from dragging them back into hell because the innies are then given the choice to stay or not. and he doesn't have to face irving's resulting crisis — that he in the throes of his own grief would rather not exist than continue on down here without her burt — because dylan takes care of that for him :)

the unfortunate thing is that. the one who’d probably be least happy to be stuck here for the foreseeable future (even if a part of her was hoping to see him and the others again) is the one who wasn't (and won't be) presented with that choice. whose return, when it occurs, will be purely because other people (helena and/or the board, but only after hearing and folding partway to mark's ultimatum) decided that for her. in fact, considering that her response to cobel’s threat in the s1 finale — “you’ll be long gone, but your friends will be kept alive, in pain” — was to still go through with revealing the truth…

(yes, she was okay potentially resigning her friends to an existence of suffering as well. but, even subtracting that they all understood the risk of an outcome like that going in, at least the pain they might have suffered would have been a sacrifice in service of the cause. that’s more noble. and thereby, more forgivable.) (right?)

looking at it this way, “no one is entitled to (this) pain but me” is the natural other side of the coin to “none may atone for my actions but me”.

Really thinking about writing a fanfic about Formula 1 and Harry Potter.

With Piarles as ennemies to friends to lovers to strangers to lovers. Pierre as a Slytherin and Charles as a Gryffindor.

Galex as love at first sight but George try to hide it very hard. George being Pierre best friend and dragging him to the Gryffindor party to see Alex and poor Pierre and Charles having to be the third wheel and snickering about the other while George and Alex are akwardly flirting. George as a Slytherin and Alex as a Gryffindor.

Maxiel as the two shennigans who are trying to hide their relationship but Daniel is very bad at hiding it so Max has to silence him. Max as a slytherin and Daniel as Hufflepuff.

Landoscar as grumpy x sunshine. They are forced to work together for a Defence against the Dark arts. Lando is very energetic and try to conceal his crush for Oscar that is as since Oscar took his hand to show him the right way to cast a spell.

Brocedes as teachers / ennemies to lovers. Nico is the charms teacher who always make snarky remarks about Lewis without naming it. Lewis who's the arithmency teacher that everyone likes. They were lovers until the NEWTs came and put them in an over competitive relationship. And now, everyone wonders if they fucked.

Simi as 'everyone wonder if they're a couple or not while they're married'. Kimi being the potions teacher and Sebastian is the transfiguration teacher. Everyone absolutely loves Sebastian because he's always caring and joking with everyone.

One year younger, we have Kimi and Ollie who are under Charles' wing. They both have a huge crush on the other but Kimi as a girlfriend and think Ollie isn't gay.

Of course with other ships like Mark Webber + Fernando Alonso or Esteban + Lance

All of that during starting when Harry enters his third year at school. So going from year 5 to the Great War. Dealing with purebloods idea and just relationship. Voldemort is even scared by the couple because they're very powerful wizards.

So, it’s clear that Sky Chime, Dinky, and Rosey won’t all be getting the same cutie marks as the CMC did in canon. Especially since Sky Chime already has her cutie mark. Will Dinky and Rosey get their cutie marks at the same time though like the CMC did? If they did it would probably make Sky Chime feel more isolated. Also, do you have any plans for their cutie marks? 

Very true! One of the things I dislike in Friendship is Magic was the CMC all getting their Cutie Marks at the same time. Giving Sky Chime her secret Cutie Mark was a way to be able to prevent that from the jump - in addition to my narrative reasons of course.

So no, Dinky and Rosy won’t be getting their marks at the same time. It’ll be a plot point going forward and their attitude will be ‘None of us have our Cutie Marks until we All have our Cutie Marks’. Sky will have some anxiety about the girls finding out her secret and you’ll see that in future drawings.

As for their talents, I do have plans for those, and I wanna publish the drafts to show where I’m going with them, but idk, should I spoil it or make it special? Y’all’s can tell me what you think I should do regarding updates.

A hint to it though, is that for Rosy, Sky and Dinky their Cutie Mark stories reflect an aspect of growing up within hints I already gave to what they struggle with. So I have actually put in subtle seeds for the answers, but I will elaborate more as I draw more things!

ngl, "severance" is great show in every sense of the word but i don't share in the enthusiasm for the latest episode for different reasons. one of them being that i really don't like the way reghabi has been written in this episode and i do hope they will course-correct things (magically appearing out of the blue but at the exact right time to help our desperate hero find his wife? yeah, well no thanks). they keep adding more mystery upon mystery to female characters and i personally need them to go a little bit deeper than that. they need to throw me a bone. i need to see their stories as well or i'll start thinking that the show is writing them solely for their functions in relation to male characters. which is not a shocking news but it's a big betrayal since s1 was ultimately more about helly r than mark s. or, better, helly r and mark were both key and ultimately had equal weight in the story but i kinda need more screentime with helly r/helena now to believe that this is still true for s2.
