effectively killing two of your protagonists who are actually the same protagonist by forcing them to develop into a kind of mutual twin-absorbed-in-the-womb type chimeric synthesis of each other thereby introducing a third new protagonist who is actually both and neither of them. and at the end of season two episode three no less.

chewing on the wording of this. “the Board wishes to express that I, Natalie, received this same gift […] and found it extremely moving.” like. she isn’t even afforded the luxury of choosing to lie to milchick about how it made her feel. no, the Board says she was moved, and that she was grateful, and she’s only allowed to communicate that because it said so first. zero agency beyond being the mouthpiece of a faceless corporate entity.

Thinking about how despite the fact that he doesn’t remember gemma mark s is LITERALLY born out of his love for her. Like he loved her so much he was CHOKING ON HER GHOST (!!!) and created a new version of himself who didn’t have to remember losing her. It’s a super fucked up subversion of loving someone to the point of creation; I love you so much I created a version of myself that never knew you. And he still feels it down there he just doesn’t know what it is!! What the fuck!!!

my gf said something sooo insane about helly the other day and i cannot stop thinking about it. she was like. helena and helly’s relationship is almost maternal. the way helena created helly as an extension of herself, to serve her interests, to try and impress her own family. she scolds helly, talks down to her like a child. “i understand you’re unhappy with the life you’ve been given” “i am a person, you are not”. the way she envies and resents helly’s freedom. the way she feels entitled to helly’s life and is now living vicariously through her in the most literal sense. what if you created life and now they’re experiencing the things you’ve always wanted for yourself. what if you created life and they were flawed and loud and demanding and they were loved more than you’ve ever been. and you hated them for it. the mother/daughterisms are insane my girlfriend is insane

oh oh OH. the quiet looks of reserved indignation between natalie and milchick. the mutual understanding of racism, as Lumon's two Black employees, conveyed so subtly and realistically in a few glances. This place is not for them. It will never be for them. the highest honour they as Black Lumon employees can reach is their Black faces photoshopped onto a white man's story. Even the reward for their hard work is a crass false representation that only serves to underscore a white man's power, and remind them they exist to serve that power. Hats off to Sydney Cole Alexander and Tramell Tillman for such fantastic, subtle and moving work in this episode and perfectly portraying the downlow solidarity between Black people and people of colour in predominantly white workplaces.

I just keep thinking about how hard Lumon is going in on Dylan right now. Secret bribes and meetings with his family, aggressively rewarding his compliance with crumbs of the freedom he craves. Alienating him from the people he cares about the most.
Its so notable to me that in the propaganda claymation, they refuse to acknowledge Dylans heroics in any way, shape, or form. Sure, there are little posters trivilaizing the way he held the OCP switches, but in the film? He is this bumbling comedic relief background thought. They are just really aggressively trying to affirm to him that he is *not* important. This is because he *is* arguably the most important (IN MY OPINION).
I think what makes Dylan such a threat to Lumon is his conviction mixed with his self sacrifice. Plenty of people can really *want* a change to happen, but without someone like Dylan who is willing to put himself at risk with no reward (not see his family and trigger the OCP so everyone else has a chance FIRST) then nothing can happen!!! He is an essential catalyst for revolution!!

Well he just morphed himself back together with the functional version of himself that he was forced to create out of the pure grief his (now maybe not so dead) dead wife caused him.
So altogether I think no bueno. But thanks for asking!
There should be an equivalent to asking "how's the wife and kids?" that's like "so how's that fictional man of yours doing?"

it's so fucked actually that lumon repurposed the security room into the family visitation center. not just because it supports the illusion that lumon isn't watching as closely, or because the innies now have no clue where and how to reactive the overtime contingency if they ever needed to,
but because it's overwriting the room where dylan performed his (physically demanding!) act of rebellion, a sacrifice he agreed to out of deep (platonic) love for his friends, with a room where he's rewarded for being a Good (Obedient) Worker with getting to know his outie's family. with each visit he'll make, burying in his mind the place that represents the connections of solidarity he found down here as an innie underneath reminders of the connections that "actually" matter, the reasons he's here in the first place — the connections his outie has. the people (including three kids!) who directly rely on him keeping this job.
lumon isn't just separating dylan from the rest of the team by giving him a perk that the others can't have (because they don't have a family, huh. looks at devon) and encouraging him to keep it secret "for his own sake". they're trying to drill into him that his loyalty has been misplaced. that he's been selfish. that he has to choose one group of people or the other; choose which version of himself gets to be loved.
and innies aren't made to be loved.

literally 😭😭😭😭
actually the reveal that there was no timeskip at all is hysterical. milchick really spent that whole weekend going all over town firing people, hiring people, putting together insane fruit baskets, and serving cunt in his motorcycle helmet. then at the orders of the board he had to very quickly fire the people he hired, rehire the people he fired, commission an oil painting for the severed floor lobby, redecorate the break room, and put together an award-winning claymation corporate apology video designed to showcase the new innie perks and reforms that don't exist as well as that one time helena eagan's innie sucked face with the innie whose outie his ex-boss is obsessed with. where is HIS waffle party
#severance#severance spoilers#seth milchick#genuinely this is so fucking funny. on god mr milchick we will get you that 20% pay bump
