Elenothar is always an infinitely subtle writer but here she has outdone herself in taking the omegaverse genre, picking it up very carefully and turning it absolutely inside out, and in the process, giving us one of the most nuanced and intimate character studies of Shen Yi I’ve ever read. It’s alternating POV so you get Du Cheng’s inner workings as well (though they revolve more around snacks and Shen Yi, and are therefore simpler, but no less affecting). Elenothar has this trick of making you feel everything the characters feel, and it sure is a lot. In conclusion spend some quality time with this fic; you will be glad you did.

what's my biggest pet peeve well it's when someone makes a text post on tumblr dot com in which they are trying to romanticize the notion of the livestock guardian dog but they don't know the distinction between a livestock guardian dog and a herding dog and also they've never met a livestock guardian dog and do not realize what their attitudes towards the sheep that they protect actually are

I don't have the words for this but. Art and science are always hand in hand.

The perfectionism of artists has them researching stuff in a way that only scientists can compare. Some artists become experts in biology or anatomy. Other special interests have them going down rabbit holes to make them better at their art.

Disney animators said "we are perfecting the code for this snow if it kills us" and researched and invented code until it acted like real snow in Frozen and snow scientists were like hey. Did we just fucking solve the Dyatlov Pass mystery. And the animators answered no. We made snow. YOU applied the knowledge and did the experiments to solve what could have happened at Dyatlov Pass.

And it was a team effort because of course it was. You can't have art without science. And you can't have science without art.
