@peresephones, bonus Annette the Red snippet, because even if she will not make this draft, who doesn't love an acearo vampire stuck in the golden age of piracy?
The figure was still partly obscured by the shadow of a broad, tricorn hat. A feather jammed into it wiggled slightly as its owner sauntered over the patio.
“Ah, there thou art, old Jacky boy. And all prettied up too, ‘pon my troth!”
The dulled point of a cutlass jabbed into Caz’s vest. He ran a hand down his face.
“Evening, Annette,” he said. “What are you doing here?”
The woman tossed back a mess of long, loose red hair. She was wearing a red jacket with buttons down its front that flared out past her knees. Underneath it was an expanse of skirts and petticoats hitched up to reveal tan breeches and high, leather boots. She waved her cutlass in the air as Tala muffled a snort.
“This be where all the devils are roosting tonight, ain’t it?” she asked. “And ain’t I one of them devils?”
“Vampires,” Caz said. “How many times have I explained to you? We’re vampires not devils.”
Annette strolled past him, her mouth open wide enough in a laugh Jade could see needle-sharp fangs. In the moonlight, the blue veins along her neck and face looked almost bioluminescent.
“Perchance I like mine own word better?” she asked, and Jade had to hold back a laugh. Annette seemed to notice.
“Found another pretty thing, eh, thou big gandermooner?” she asked, leaning in until their noses almost touched before whirling away to address the other vampires.
“Jacky always had a weakness for the girls and boys he’d find at port,” she said. “Taking ‘em aboard and making moon eyes till he’d finally break and have a feast of ‘em.”
“Annette,” Caz cut in. “We’re trying to have a discussion here.”
A low chuckle emanated from Temo.
“No, let her talk, Mraz,” he said. “I love hearing about your time as a swashbuckling pirate.”
“Privateer,” Caz said, swinging his long arms outward in a plea. “We were privateers. Not pirates.”
Annette turned back to him and wrapped an arm over his shoulder, hanging off him as if he were a tree she could climb — or maybe a mast.
“Ah, but who could forget Bloodless Jack and Annette the Red!” she said.
“I hate when you call me that,” Caz said, peeling away Annette’s limbs. “You know I hate it, don’t you? Or did you forget everything that’s happened after 1789?”
“Ah, well thou didst hate when they called thee ‘Jack the Slovak,’ so -”
“Because I’m not Slovakian!” Caz cried. “I’m fucking Romanian — well, Polish on my father’s side — thou shalt call me either Casimir Mraz or Kazimir Iosifescu, not Jack, thou scurvy wench!”
He stopped and flushed nearly purple under the moonlight, drawing a breath as though he could suck the words back in. Tala and Temo choked with laughter. Jade couldn’t see what Valfierno was doing. He was somewhere past her line of sight, but had to be close.
“Perhaps Miss Annette would be interested in my latest product,” he said almost directly in her ear, confirming her suspicions.
Annette crossed her arms and whistled through her teeth.
“What be such a ‘product’ thou art peddling?” she asked.
He explained the device with a similar amount of gestures as when he presented to his larger audience in the pool. When he finished, Annette clapped his shoulder and laughed.
“Well, Eddie my lad, thou art a charming ruffian, but such things are no use for devils like meself or Jacky,” she said. “We live a bit simpler than you pretty things.”
Caz’s jaw clenched hard enough to break his own teeth.
“Whatever delusion thou hast — that you’ve cooked up, Annette,” he said. “My lifestyle is anything but simple.”
Countdown to NaNo, Part 4/4: Some more characters ...
Two days till NaNoWriMo! I'm not sure how ready I am for it, but for my last post, here's some more characters in Something Wicked:
Violet Anouilh
Tumblr media
A hedgewitch living in a ranch outside Las Vegas with her mother, Marie, where they care for monsters and other supernatural creatures in need. Her powers specialize in plant and fungal growth. Likes: Jade Shaw. Dislikes: Caz Mraz
Ruby Hall
Tumblr media
Jade's best friend and a witch working at a casino as a magician's assistant. The real trick? She's a master of illusions and the magician in question is her rabbit and familiar, Domino.
Lila Brown
Tumblr media
Caz's ex and a werewolf with a past. She and Caz had a wild time in the 90s and 2000s, but something happened since that led to her not speaking to Caz beyond a few sentences.
Amber and Ember Byrne
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Byrne twins operate a funeral home in a strip mall in Las Vegas, serving as a front for selling all manner of ingredients to other witches. With Everett "Ember" Byrne's fire magic and Amber's necromancy, they make a formidable pair indebted to Theoris Myrina since the late 80s. Which brings us to ...
Theoris Myrina
Tumblr media
Jade's former mentor and head of the Southwest Coven, which Jade was a part of until she made a deal with a vampire. According to the Byrne twins, Theoris is making some big changes due to some influences back east.
Kenneth Brooks
Tumblr media
A detective on the verge of retirement trying to solve a series of seemingly unconnected homicides and disappearances. Old-fashioned cop not afraid of old-fashioned policework — such as blackmailing Caz and Jade to do his dirty work for him.
Amelia [redacted]
Tumblr media
Caz's last girlfriend, who left him after interpreting his secretiveness and strange habits as signs of a drug addiction. Caz is determined to win her back (but if he happens to date some others along the way, including a rich Fae prince, what’s the harm?).
Post 1/4, Post 2/4, Post 3/4

Maybe it's just me, but I honestly don't have a difficult time seeing Alastor as Persephone. I'm not sure I can explain it very eloquently. I had that common phase of being incredibly obsessed with Greek and Roman mythology though I haven't really looked at it in a good while. Some of it is purely aesthetic - Alastor being a seemingly delicate deer demon fits Persephone's role as a spring deity, while his everything else fits her association with the underworld - but I also think the reason it works for me is because of something Vivzie said about how Alastor is the type of person to have both a townhouse in the city and a hunting lodge out in the wilderness and felt equally at home in both settings. And something else I think I read in a book or learned in my Latin class about how in a much less technologically advanced world, forests and nature appeared much more sinister, even monstrous to humans, and nature-associated deities tended to reflect this. Including seemingly gentle gods like Persephone.
Congratulations, Anon, you just made me love Peresphone!Alastor even more and I didn't even think that was possible. I was already on board, why are trying to coax me in further.
I can totally see Alastor being comfortable with both a city and the wilderness. Him owning a hunting lodge makes so much sense to me. I've never pictured him as being strictly a city boy (Vox, on the other hand).
Also, nature and forests appearing more sinister and monstrous to humans 👁️👁️ nature associated deities, even the "softer" ones, reflecting that. Look, Persephone!Alastor already made so much sense to me, but you're making it make even more sense.
Also this "Some of it is purely aesthetic - Alastor being a seemingly delicate deer demon fits Persephone's role as a spring deity, while his everything else fits her association with the underworld" is exactly it too. Alastor having the form of a deer, which are often depicted or seen as delicate and soft, as the god of spring, which is all about growth, new beginnings and rebirth, while still having his dark, murderous, and aggressive side. I love it. I love it so much.

“Bianca’s judgment”
Short fic about Bianca di Angelo
➴➵➶➴➵➶➴➵➶
“Father, please,” Bianca started.
She was sat on the arm of her fathers throne. Minos was in front of them for judgement and Bianca was not happy with him.
Hades gave his daughter a nod. Bianca slides down off of the throne and walks to Minos.
“Well I hear you have been treating my brother badly, and I want you to know I’m not happy,” she smiled dangerously.
“Excuse me! I’ll have you know I am a king-“ he tried to argue, only for Bianca to cut of him off.
“And I am the princess of this kingdom, which is not yours. I suggest you keep your mouth shut. I don’t care if you were royalty 4000 years ago. I’m royalty now.” Bianca’s tone was low and angry.
She was never one for threats or intimidation, but she could make exceptions for those who hurt her baby brother.
Hades flicks his hand, signaling the skeleton guards to take Minos to the fields of punishment.
His punishment was Bianca’s suggestion. He would experience the punishments of all those he unfairly judged for the rest of time.
Bianca sat back on the arm of her fathers throne. She would have had her own throne but hades didn’t want Nico asking questions if he saw it. So Bianca was content to sit next to her father for now.
Persephone glanced at her step daughter. “I never took you for cruel.”
Bianca shrugged. “I’m not, I think was being fair. I just don’t like people hurting my brother.”
Persephone was about to say something before Demeter materialized. Before she could speak Bianca slid off the throne. “I have homework to do-“ Demeter thrusted a bowl of wheat into her hands, “oh- thanks grandmother! I’ll eat it while I do homework!” She quickly walked out the throne room before Demeter could insist on anything. She shoot persephone an apologetic look on her way out.
Bianca did not in fact have homework.
She had some yelling to do, Minos wasn’t off her hook just yet.
➴➵➶➴➵➶➴➵➶
I will stand by the head cannon that Bianca becomes a princess in the underworld until I die
She did not choose rebirth, she was just in her room because hades didn’t want Nico trying to bring her back

One thing I like about the lightning thief movie is having Persephone openly call her relationship with Hades abusive. Modern retellings like to depict hades and Persephone as a romance, and often demonize Demeter in the process, for committing the crime of *checks notes* going apeshit after her daughter was kidnapped in the original myth. It’s refreshing to me.

Spoilers for season 2 of Blood of Zeus so if you don't want to get spoiled don't click continue reading
I'm not going to lie I kinda like how they changed Peresphone and Hades's story. I like how they made her willingly go with Hades's and willingly ate the food of the underworld.
