When you told me the whole story I felt like throwing up
Annabeth discussing her family's past with her eldest son.
It was a Saturday night. Annabeth’s father and stepmother were in town, so they decided to invite them over for dinner. She also invited Bobby and Matthew as they all lived in the same state. It was one of the rare occasions she would invite them all. Sure, their relationships had gone a long way, but it still pained her sometimes. But she wanted her kids to know their grandfather not as a monster, but as their grandpa who made a few mistakes.
She also didn’t want them to get in touch with the uglier parts of her life. She was trying to slow down the inevitable. Telling them the whole story of her childhood, would completely change the way they viewed Frederick. And she wanted some peace even for just another year.
Everything was going by smoothly. They had finished eating dinner and they had all spread around the house. Bobby and Matthew were talking with their father, whilst their wives were watching over Lana and Audrey playing outside. Zoe and Theo were on the treehouse with Carolyn, Jenny, Xander, and Rick. But she couldn’t find Charlie. She then heard a door from upstairs slam shut. Zoe caught her gaze from kitchen’s window. Her expression didn’t tell a lot, but Annabeth was sure that it had to do with her twin brother.
“Annabeth?” Percy called her as she had zoned out.
“I can’t wait for him to come talk to us. I need to try talking to him.” She confessed.
They had noticed that Charlie was more distant than usual. He had been like that for a couple of weeks. Both she and Percy had talked to him on several occasions, but he didn’t want to tell them what was wrong. It freaked Annabeth out of her mind as she couldn’t do anything to control the situation. He was her kid and she couldn’t help him out the way she wanted.
“You can talk to him if you want. Take a brownie with you.” He handed her, a plate with two pieces of chocolate fudge brownie.
Annabeth made her way upstairs. She was anxious about how the whole situation was going to end. For as long as she can remember, she could always talk to Charlie, but he had changed. She knew that it was a part of life and that she couldn’t expect that her son wouldn’t grow up. But she missed those moments when it was just the two of them, talking with nobody interrupting or judging them.
She knocked on Charlie’s door and waited for a response. After she heard a muffled come in, she entered the room. “Hey. I brought you brownies.” She placed the plate on his bed. She noticed that his room was messier than usual, but she wasn’t going to bring that up.
Charlie was sitting on the floor, facing the big window with his back on his bed. “Thanks.” He replied quietly. From his expression, she could tell that he was stressed about something.
Annabeth sat next to him. “Do you want to talk about what is going on?” Charlie stayed quiet.
He refused to meet her gaze. “Why didn’t you tell me about your family?”
“What do you mean?”
“Did you run away when you were seven?” He asked her.
Annabeth was stunned. She was avoiding that moment, but she was forced to deal with it. Because she had to grow up too fast, she tried to keep her kids as much as she could in the darkness. Keeping them close to her where they were safe. But she underestimated how smart they were. And that if she wouldn’t tell, they would find out either way.
“Yes, I did.”
Charlie seemed even more displeased with the answer. “Why?”
She had no clue how to explain that to him. He managed to catch her off guard and make her lose her words. “I didn’t want to live with my father. I thought I was old enough to do what I wanted. I didn’t feel needed in that house.” He remained silent.
“You were seven. Where did you even go?”
“Thalia and Luke found me.” It was a rather simple answer despite not being completely true. She was homeless. She was chased by monsters. She was cold and scared. But she knew Charlie couldn’t handle that sort of information at the moment.
“What if they hadn’t?” He asked sounding a bit more upset. “What do you mean you didn’t feel needed? Isn’t that in the actual description of being a parent? What the hell did grandpa do when you left.” He paused but didn’t wait for an answer that Annabeth didn’t have. “I get it. It all makes sense now. Why we rarely go to grandpa’s house when we’re in San Francisco and why you meet in a neutral place when he comes here.”
Annabeth hated herself for making her son feel like that. She noticed a tear rolling down his cheek. He quickly wiped it. “Charlie, it’s much more complicated than that.”
“No, it’s not. I just realised I grew up with a grandfather who was abusive to you. Why are still talking to him?” She realised that his hands were shaking, and he couldn’t breathe.
Charlie was the most complicated out of their kids. She was numb growing up. Not showing or feeling a lot of things. She needed someone like Percy who would bring her peace and make her understand that feeling something is human. Charlie didn’t have that problem. He already felt a lot. Too much. He was flooded with sensations too overwhelming to control. He acted like he didn’t care about what was happening around him most of the times, wearing a mask that concealed the raw parts of his character. But he was in pain because of that. He had a sensitive heart that he would never allow anyone to break. He didn’t like becoming attached to people he didn’t know well. And even then, he hid the best of him to make sure that he’d never have to waste his time with repairing what’s broken. Annabeth knew that he wanted to love someone more than every other person on earth, and that when he would allow himself to do so, he would do it with every piece of his soul.
They tried to help him cope with his feelings, but he turned down all of their efforts. She knew that he talked to Percy a lot, but she never asked her husband what their conversations were like. It didn’t matter to her as long as he had someone to talk to.
Annabeth sat closer to him. “I’ll tell you everything you want to know.” She whispered to him.
Charlie was holding back more tears. “I remember when I was three. I heard the two of you fighting.” He said. “I never thought that it was that serious.”
“It wasn’t that serious. We always fight.” Annabeth tried to comfort him.
“No! Don’t try to justify what he did. Yes, families fight. But you ran away. And he did nothing. That’s not just a family feud, mum!” He choked with tears streaming down his face. Annabeth pulled him close to her. She didn’t know what to say. She just wanted to take away his pain. She hated that her wrongs were the reason he was upset. If there was a way to make all his pain go away, even if that meant hurting herself, she would do it.
“I hate that he gets to have a part in our lives.” She wanted to let him finish. “He stands in our house, and you gave him power. To a man who deserves absolutely nothing from you. You didn’t owe him forgiveness.”
“I didn’t. But I forgave him.”
“You shouldn’t have! He gets to play the big family man and shit. He doesn’t deserve to be proud of you. Of us. He shouldn’t be able to talk about your success like it’s his. He didn’t help you out. Never.” At this point he was practically shaking. He was touching his throat, rubbing his fingers over his Adam’s apple.
“Breathe.”
He inhaled deeply and closed his eyes. After a long pause he exhaled. “I wouldn’t have forgiven him. Does that make me a bad person?”
Charlie was going through an existential crisis. He was trying to figure out his moral compass, but it was only driving him to madness. Obsessing over the smallest aspects of his life. Something Annabeth had struggled herself. Perfectionism is a monster. The nastiest of all. The one who hides in your dreams and aspirations. The one that manages to make you doubt your success and your hard work.
“No, it doesn’t.” She was putting on her bravest face. He was right. She shouldn’t have forgiven him. But he caught her in a moment of vulnerability and weakness. “When you get older you get to make your own calls about your life. What might seem right to me, may be in a grey area for you. And it’s okay. It’s acceptable. It’s natural.”
He put his head on his knees. “I hate feeling like this.”
“I know.” She didn’t know why he was beating up himself so badly, but she couldn’t force him to talk. The whole point is that he could trust them enough to tell them. “And whenever you feel ready you can come and talk to us. Or if you feel more comfortable we can take you to a therapist. It’s completely up to you.”
“A therapist sounds like a good idea.” He replied. “Can you book me an appointment?”
“Of course.” She smiled softly.
“And I don’t want you to worry about me.” He confessed.
“That’s impossible.” She chuckled.
“Mum-“
“I’ll always care and worry about you. It’s in the description of being a parent.”
“You didn’t ask how I found out. About you running away from home.”
“How did you find out?”
“I’m a horrible person, mum.” He confessed, his voice sounding raw. “I read it in one of the notebooks in the attic and overheard a talk grandpa had with Helen. I think they were arguing about something that had to do with you leaving the house as a kid.”
Her diaries.
She had forgotten their existence. She hadn’t seen them since they moved in New Athens, 10 years ago. It had never crossed her mind that someone would find them and read them.
Charlie Jackson.
That was the only one person in the whole world who could come across a beaten up notebook and read it.
“Do you want to know why I forgave your grandfather?”
“I guess so.”
“He never wanted a kid. At least with a woman he had had two conversations with.” Charlie seemed confused. “Athena has brainchildren. He hadn’t felt any attraction to her. He hadn’t fallen in love. I wasn’t the result of love. I was the result of a mindful conversation. He didn’t care that I was a tiny baby that had nobody in this world other than him. He didn’t feel affection towards me. I was forced on him. He wanted nothing to do with me.”
“Mum-“ He cleared his throat. “That doesn’t make him any less horrible.”
“I know, my angel. But when someday you’re going to fall in love-“
“I’m never going to fall in love.”
“Believe me. You’re going to. And you’ll realise that there is nothing more mind blowing than loving an other person with your whole existence. Your grandfather managed to like me when I was way older. He only fell in love once in his life. And it wasn’t with Athena, or Helen, or any of his kids. It was to History. He only loves his work. And it’s fine. That doesn’t mean, that I have forgotten what I have gone through, but I cut him some slack. He was trying his best, even if it wasn’t enough.” Annabeth felt herself choking, but she managed to hold back her tears.
“He’s a better grandfather to you than he was ever a father to me. I give him this at least.” Charlie didn’t reply to that, but Annabeth was sure what he was thinking. He surely now wished that he wasn’t his grandfather. “You are allowed to feel however you want about your family. But everyone makes mistake, and you have to think before you act. Don’t say something you’ll regret immediately after.”
“Theo likes him. He doesn’t like many people. I am not going to ruin it for him. I am not that heartless.” Charlie said with his voice cracking at the end.
“My perfect miracle, you aren’t heartless.”
“Is it ever going to get better? I hate feeling this way.”
“It’s going to get better. It’s going to take time, but I promise that I’ll always be by your side.”

Everybody share their Feral Street Kid Leo hcs pls I need more.
I’ll start- Leo fighting a monster at some point by making himself look bigger and hissing at it. Surprisingly, it works. His friends look at him like “wtf” and he just shrugs and says, “I grew up on the streets, and monsters aren’t that different from racoons.”
He also definitely fought some weird-ass racoons that looking back he realised were monsters.

What if percy didn't catch annabeth in time?
The only thing stopping him from going after her were those around him
Without percy there to manipulate the rivers, the fall kills Annabeth shattering her body
Nico can feel her soul slowly disappearing
Percy vows to the styx to rip Gaia apart piece by piece
He's successful in that vow
He can't bare to look Nico in the eyes for saving him and not Annabeth
Frank and Jason beat themselves up for her death because they couldn't fly down to her
Hazel goes silent for about 3 months
She can't bare to hear Annabeths name without bursting into tears
Piper can feel Percy losing hope in love
She knows he they never got to tell one another
The first time Percy saw Chiron cry was when he heard the news about Annabeth, he makes sure she has the best shroud, she was like a daughter to him
Thalia goes on a hunt into the Underworld demanding Annabeth to be brought back
Hades looks at her and feels the pain she's going though, he looks at his niece dressed in punk clothes and mascara and eyeliner flooding her face
Grovers heartbroken, even though he was able to save Thalia he knew it was top good to be true, he would.always be the satyr who lost a demigod on the way back, he just didn't expect it to be the 7 year old girl who depended on him
The Athena cabin are now told how their oldest sister went head first into where Arachne lived, and brought her into Tarterus along with her self and her brave sacrifice
When Athena found out she let out a silent tear, she truly did love her daughter however even though she was the goddess of wisdom, she still had no idea of how to show it
She then summoned back the invisibility cap and Annabeths leather necklace
She now keeps the hat on her throne at olympus and a reminder of her favourite daughters bravery
The necklace was mailed to Annabeths father who now wears it every single day
Her mortal family are obviously devastated, even more at the fact that they never had a chance to say goodbye or burry her body as it was lost in tarterus
The camp seems to be darker without Annabeth around
Annabeth then goes on to Elysium, where she's greeted by Charlie, Silena, Luke (who she gives the cold shoulder to), Ethan, Bianca and everyone else

Mattheo with a Percy Jackson! Reader headcannons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Makes you do some shit with water most of the time.
“Yo, y/n can you put water in my cup?” And it could be at a restaurant or just at home as he pushes his glass towards you. You narrowed you eyes before water came down rushing at mattheo. Mattheo is then soaked with a smile. His brown curly hair drenched covering his eyes. “Thanks.” “No problem Matt.”
The two of you just doing chaotic ass shit to the point you two has be separated in class 😭
A funny little headcannon I have in my mind is that Mattheo definitely opens his mouth so you can move water into it. He definitely did this either sober or high at least.
Imagine just you trying to make mattheo drink water as he is drunk as hell and you just splash him with a random wave of sink water
Headcannon on Mattheo making dumb ass water jokes at you
“Are you h20? Cause I wanna drink you up.”
“…are you fuckin high?”
Imagine mattheo on a hot day asking you to make the common room a fucking big ass pool.
“You’re the heir of the god of seas…can’t you just make a big wave of water come?” “And you want me to flood the damn common room with water?” “…yess..”
Imagine you two just messing with other Slytherins for fun. Always doing shit for in as the heir of Poseidon
Tumblr media
“You see Theodore?” Mattheo says pointing at the Italian Slytherin who was relaxing by the lake
“Yeah?” You said confused.
“Push his ass into the water…” you looked at mattheo as if he was crazy. But you then chuckled nodding as a body of water dragged Theodore into the black lake. Immediately Nott came out of the water cursing, you and mattheo couldn’t hold im the laughs. That’s when Theodore spotted you two. The tall Slytherin strutted over to where you and mattheo hid.
“SHIT MATTHEO RUN!” You yelled running as mattheo followed your lead. “TORNA QUI, YOU PUSSIES!” Theodore yelled in an angry tone. His native language slipping out. (Come back here)

idk if you write for luke but imagine sneaking into mr ds office and getting comfy because you like the idea of getting caught 👀
this has been going around my head ever since i received it and i finally did something about it 😗 also i got asked for a percy jackson smut and to do whatever i want with it (yk who you are sweet anon) so does this count? muah xx
Tumblr media
sneaking into mr d’s office with luke castellan was something you thought you’d never do. but your boyfriend had a tendency to ignore or try break unspoken rules, and that led to luke interrupting your cabin’s lava wall training, promising them their counsellor would be back soon as he dragged you away.
“are you out of your mind?” you hiss at him, checking behind you every five seconds, “we’re going to get caught by mr d or chiron!”
luke only offered the signature grin all hermes kids owned and continued until he had locked the door behind you. there wasn't much to take in - big wooden desk, a map of half-blood hill on a wall, a dusty bookshelf, and the faint smell of diet coke. while you were taking in your surroundings, luke gained a keen interest in the desk with locked drawers down each side. it only took a few seconds before he had them unlocked and he pulled up a bag full of drachmas.
normally you'd never go around to the other side of the desk to try pry a drawer open for yourself. the idea wouldn't even cross your mind to stuff as many bags of gold into your pockets as you possibly could; but it was mr d and drachmas he wouldn't be spending anytime soon seeing as he was confined to the camps boundaries, anyone would do the same.
once you were finished luke's arms wrap around your waist and hoist you onto the surface of the desk, as warm lips attack your neck and big hands work their way up and under your orange shirt. a sigh escapes your lips and your fingers wrap into his raven hair. "hey there"
"hey" he mumbles back, muffled against your neck as he presses a last kiss behind your ear and pressing his forehead against yours. "twenty minutes 'till lunch."
"yeah... wanna go back to mine?" you offer your cabin, playing with the beads on his camp necklace. an unsure hum from him makes you look up at him. you can see the lightbulb light up behind his blue irises. he picks you up so your legs wrap around his hips and sits back into the padded desk chair
"i think we'll be just fine here, yeah?" he said, pressing a kiss into the side of your mouth and working his way back down your neck to make the marks he left earlier brighter. you try your hardest to focus on luke and the heavenly way his mouth feels on your skin, but your mind kept jumping to mr d and chiron finding their two best counsellors in this state. the thought of either of them terrified you to your wits end, but also sent a surge of thrill through your veins.
luke brings you back by digging his teeth into your collarbone and eliciting a groan from you, effectively shutting off your care for who could catch you. you grab his jaw and force him to look at you and you fold - his lovesick face with pupils blown wide from lust makes you crash your lips against his. its messy and rough and perfect for you two as hands explore each others bodies. you pull away to tug your shirt off your head and he follows suit, then you're back on each other again.
the sound fills with small moans, sighs, and gasps from both of you. you're too far gone to hear the footsteps approach the door, too caught up in the feeling of grinding against luke and hearing his faint groans to notice the voices behind the door and the rattling of the handle being twisted. it isn't until the door squeaks on its hinges that you turn to look over your shoulder and see mr d, his face as red as the wine he invented.
you could argue the two weeks wash up duty was worth it.

Day 7: The Craziest Christmas’ Eve
Percy had woken up at 6am on Christmas’ Eve. Was he glad to do it? Not really. But he would do everything in his power so that his hardworking wife with just a few days off could sleep in just a few more hours.
He quickly made his coffee and prepared what he and Annabeth had to do for the day. But then he heard footsteps in the living room. He opened the door slowly as he was pretty sure it was one of his kids and he didn’t want to frighten them.
“Daddy?” Zoe turned to his direction. She was still in her pyjamas waiting for the next day to arrive.
“Good morning, my angel. What are you looking for over there?” Percy grinned slightly as Zoe had been trying to see what she had gotten for Christmas for the past week.
“Can I please open just one present? Can I, please?” She begged him.
“I am sure you can wait another twenty-four hours to open your presents. You’ll enjoy it more tomorrow morning.” He reassured her.
“Does the big red box happen to be a bike?” Zoe asked him.
“I don’t know.” Percy lifted his shoulders only to make Zoe’s puppy pleading eyes grow bigger. “Want to help me make pancakes for everyone?”
“I guess so?” She shrugged and walked in the kitchen.
“Good morning.” Annabeth said as she held Lana in one hand and her bottle in the other. She managed to give a quick kiss her daughter before she sat on the kitchen counter.
“Daddy and I are going to make pancakes for everyone.”
“That sounds great. With blueberries or chocolate chips?”
“Both.” Zoe said. “Tomorrow it’s Christmas.”
“I know. And tonight all of our friends are coming over. We’re going to have a great time.”
“Can I stay up and wait for Santa?”
“If you don’t go to sleep, Santa’s not coming.” Percy warned her.
Charlie had come downstairs along with Theo and had only listened the last bit. “Santa isn’t coming?”
“No, no, no, no. Santa is coming. I was just saying that he won’t come unless you fall asleep tonight.” He repeated to make sure he didn’t ruin his kids dreams.
“Zoe and Colin want to wait for Santa. Bianca and I told them that it isn’t going to happen.” Charlie said as he stole a blueberry from the counter.
“I am going to see Santa!”
“We’re going to see him at the mall. Right after we finish our breakfast.” Annabeth promised. “And watch a movie and drink hot cocoa. How does that sound?”
“Cool.”
Just a few hours later their house was filled with their friends and their families. Annabeth wished she was in the living room but instead she was in the bathroom with Katie and Rachel.
“This can’t be happening. I need you to pee on a stick as well.” Katie said as she saw the two lines.
“Maybe it’s just a false positive.” Rachel suggested trying to lighten the mood. She was wearing a Christmas sweater with Christmas lights and festive earrings.
“Try again.” Annabeth said as she was drinking her warm wine. “You know peeing on a stick isn’t exactly accurate.”
“I blame Rachel’s Third Eye. ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if you were drinking while pregnant.” She mimicked her friend.
“This has nothing to do with my abilities. And if you want a base line, I can do it with you.”
“I am going to step out.” Annabeth said.
“Can’t handle another surprise?”
“Honestly, no. And I have to make sure that we aren’t suspicious.” Annabeth was sure that their behaviour was very suspicious to say the least. “If you need anything, I’ll be right outside.”
“Alright, who spiked the eggnog?” Percy said as Connor and Travis were grinning.
“We needed to spice things up. Including your eggnog, Percy.” Connor smiled.
“Besides, we’re the only ones drinking eggnog.” Travis said. “And Will. The rest are too high-class to drink a peasant’s drink.”
“You are drinking eggs with bourbon. It’s disgusting.” Nico replied with Malcolm agreeing. He turned to Will’s direction who was drinking eggnog as well.
“Don’t look so condescending. I’ll drink your German Wine later.” Will promised.
“Glühwein.” Malcolm said.
“Where is Annabeth? She is part of the judging triad.” Connor asked.
“We are making social remarks, Connor. Such as don’t drink a boiled egg smoothie.” His husband said. “But really, where is Annabeth?”
“I’ll go find her.”
Percy got up and walked towards the corridor where Annabeth was standing with a candy cane and warm wine in her hands. “Hey, love. What are you doing here?”
“Long story.” She replied and walked closer to him. “I am so glad Lana is having formula milk. I couldn’t handle Christmas without wine.”
“You are losing the great debate between Eggnog and the Gluewine.”
“Glühwein.”
“Athena’s genes are running strong.”
“Always. Want some wine?”
“Maybe later.” He looked over his head. “Annabeth, look.” He showed her the mistletoe above them.
“Normally I’d say no, but I’m on my 14th candy cane, so why not?”
“You’d say no to kissing me?”
“I heard you have a crazy wife. I wouldn’t want to fight her.”
“You would fight for me?”
“Of course. You are my Seaweed Brain.” Annabeth kissed him. Until they heard someone clearing their throat.
“You’re gone for ten seconds and you’re making out with Annabeth?” Travis asked.
At the same time, the bathroom door opened. “Travis, there is a thing called discretion.” Katie said as she walked outside with Rachel behind her.
“What-“
“Minding my own business. I am going to check on the kids.” Katie raised her hands in surrender.
“Did I do something?” Travis asked Percy and Annabeth.
“I have no idea. It’s 10pm. I’ll go check Charlie and Zoe.” Percy said. “You should go enjoy your wine.”
“You’re amazing.”
Travis came back to the living room after he saw two positive pregnancy tests in the trash. He sat next to his wife and he soon realised that she wasn’t drinking any alcohol. “Do you want to tell me something?” He whispered so that nobody could hear him except from her.
“What?”
“You took two pregnancy tests?”
Katie lost all of her colour, before she warmed up again. “I was going to tell you later.”
“Tell you what?” Connor asked them from across the living room.
Travis and Katie had a silent conversation. “We’re going to have another baby.”
After everyone congratulated them and things settled down, they realised it was way past 12 am. They said their goodnights and drove home.
Charlie, Zoe and Theo wanted to sleep in the basement that they had decorated especially for Christmas. Annabeth and Percy were on board with the idea as the three of them were overly excited.
“Go to sleep so that Santa can come.” Annabeth encouraged her five-year-old daughter and son who didn’t have an intention of falling asleep.
“But I want to see Santa.”
“I promise that I’ll wake you the moment he comes.” She whispered to her daughter.
“Really?”
“Anything for you.”
“Can you wake me up as well?” Charlie asked.
“Of course. But you must fall asleep.”
“Okay, then.”
“Goodnight, my loves.” Annabeth went to the living room as Percy was finishing putting the presents under the tree.
“Mission accomplished?”
“Mission accomplished.”

DATING l. castellan
pairing: luke castellan x fem!reader
a/n: hi soleil it spooks me what u will do with this information but i also got so carried away with this for some reason and i did in fact not proofread it
Tumblr media
• he’s a thief. so obviously as soon as you point out something in the store, uttering a quick “that’s pretty,” he’s nodding and pushing you along to go to another section of the store, mumbling something like, “sure is.” so as soon as you’re not looking he’s breaking the tag off the item and sliding it into his back pocket because he knows that if you were to see him, you’d scold him for his habit.
and when he hands it over to you later without an explanation, you’re asking, “how did you buy this?” and when he looks away nervously, you’re quick to lecture him about why what he did was wrong—but he doesn’t care; he gets to see the smile and appreciation from you.
• hearing constant “i’m so sorry” when he comes late to hang out with you. he’s the head counselor and has so many responsibilities to the point that even begging mr. d to let him go and hang out with his girlfriend will never work.
so when he finally does have the time to hang out, he’s exhausted—beads of sweat from sparring evident on his forehead as he takes the backpack he had slung over his shoulder and tosses it to the ground.
and he’s trying to give you as much attention as he can as he shares stories from his day with you, but his adhd’s getting to him and his eyes are so, so heavy and—you finally ask him if he just wants to go to sleep, and he’s jumping out of bed and changing into comfortable sleeping clothes.
soon he’s back in bed with you, comfortable and grateful enough that the few time he gets with you is not as stressful as what he had to deal with before.
• omfg sparring is the worsttttt with him. he makes you schedule two whole hours, yapping about something like, “i’ll just tell any other kids who wanna practice to wait until tomorrow,” and you’re telling him how it’s not fair for you to take that practice away from someone else, and he’s rolling his eyes and leaving your cabin after pressing a sloppy kiss to your forehead and mumbling, “see you tomorrow.” when you do see him tomorrow, he’s already working on his footwork and smirks as you arrive. the next couple hours are brutal. there are no breaks. at that point, why did you even bring a water bottle?
because every time he has you pinned down and you’re grunting, your throat dry as you look over to your water, he tilts your head back to him with his sword and gives you a look that tells you to focus.
and every time he gets his touch on you, he’s ordering, “again.” he wins. “again.” he wins again. “again.” so many times that you repeat the same moves, and every time, his sword is lightly pressed against your chest and you’re muttering in surrender.
after the fifteenth time of hearing the word again, you drop your sword to the ground and shove him, knocking his sword out of his hands. you break down into tears of frustration, and he’s quick to explain to you that he’s not trying to make you angry—just teach you how to protect yourself.
• usually he’s the one to hold you in his arms and let you speak your mind; he’s usually your rock. but some nights, when maybe a new camper has gotten claimed, or maybe someone got a birthday gift from their godly parent, he’s laying in the crook of your neck as he suppresses his tears against the soft skin there.
he’s talking for hours, babbling about gods know what. you find yourself wondering: how did he go from talking about nick, his newest cabin mate, getting claimed as a child of apollo, to talking about what he would name a dragon? you didn’t mind, because at least now he’s not crying about his father and the stupid quest he’d sent him on.
eventually, after a long day of a fake smile and the stressful teaching of a six hour sparring class, he falls asleep, his last words of “i love you” resting on his lips.
• he’d been happy the entire night—the blue team, his team, had won capture the flag again. he’d had so much fun at the celebration afterwards, (or at least it seemed,) but now it’s time to get ready for bed. it’s 1:30 am, and you’re washing off your makeup in the bathroom mirror when luke comes in, reaching for another rag.
he stands next to you in the mirror, watching your reflection for a moment before his eyes flick over to himself. his jaw clenches, his eyes trailing up and down the left side of his face before he swallows and wets the rag.
he begins to wipe the dirt and grime off his face, slowing down when the cloth traces the scar on his cheek. he drops the rag in the sink and sniffles, walking out of the bathroom and into the bed. once you’re finished, you join him in your room and climb into the bed. you lay down, and he rolls over and rests his face in the crook of his neck.
you wonder why it feels weird for a moment, and then you realize he has his head tilted oddly so that the left side of his face is hiding in the crook of his neck. odd, you think, considering he’d been complaining about neck pain the day before. you lift his head up, hand tracing on his left cheek and he freezes, body tensing.
“luke?” you ask, your eyes searching for a reason to his odd behavior. you look at where your fingers are tracing; on the scar. you understand, and for a moment, you see his eyes fill up with tears.
you swallow and lean forward, pressing a kiss to his scar before resting your forehead against his. he closes his eyes with a pained expression. moments pass, and then he moves to rest his head in the crook of your neck again, but this time he doesn’t hide his scar.
