Honestly, why do people think Percy would not like college?

Most of us assume he's going there just for Annabeth. There's a difference between going FOR Annabeth and going WITH Annabeth.

Just because Percy didn't do well at schools does not mean he can't get through New Rome University. Remember, he struggled because the New York schools weren't equipped to deal his conditions.

He didn't get good grades because he had trouble reading(Dyslexia). We know that he can read Ancient Greek without much difficulty, and the same is for Latin.

New Rome University is equipped perfectly for demigods – which means that Percy would get along pretty fine there. Just because someone isn't getting good grades doesn't mean they're not smart, maybe they just aren't getting the kind of conditions they are comfortable in.

People were surprised when Annabeth mentioned that Percy's getting good grades. Not all people who get good grades are nerds – maybe all Percy needed were teachers who could get him, and he found them at New Rome University.

Just because somebody is not a nerd or a bookworm doesn't mean they're not smart.

I finally watched the Percy Jackson series and wow Jon Steinberg sure does love to feature flashbacks of two characters practicing sword fighting to demonstrate their trust in each other, juxtaposing how one will betray the other and they will end up in an actual sword fight in the same episode. and I eat that shit up every time

why has everyone just decided to disregard everything that makes percy interesting?

we are always begging for a main character who is given a life outside of being a main character and then we were given percy jackson, a demigod in the summer, saving the world and looking good doing it, but is also just a kid.

he skateboards and collects them, he listens to punk rock and alternative rock (are they the same thing or is punk rock a sub-genre?) but doesn't dress 'alt' (like thalia) and has anger issues and has been kicked out of multiple schools for said anger issues, some of them being (court-ordered) military schools.

he also has problems with authorities who abuse their power (gabe, the gods, the nypd etc.) and will not hesitate to call you out on your bullshit no matter how powerful and important and feared you are.

but he has morals and doesn't do things without reason. he has a level of maturity and integrity that isn't even present in most adults. he is really smart and gets better grades than annabeth, and is the most considerate person you will ever meet. he is humble and never tries to be the center of attention.

he's not the most optimistic person in the entire world, but he tries to find reasons to be happy in really crappy situations (when they were traversing Tartarus and he was so happy that annabeth was with him that he started smiling).

he is always grateful for everything he has and tries to show genuine interest in all the things that interest his loved ones, even if they bore him to death (like annabeth with her architecture).

and we completely erase that for some reason to make him nothing but 'annabeth chases' boyfriend,' and, well he is her boyfriend, and he's very proud of that fact, but he is his own person as well.

people get really mad when we erase all of annabeth's character to make her nothing more than percy jacksons' girlfriend but we do it to percy all the time.

I love the idea of Percy becoming a marine veterinarian. Not because it would be easy, but because it wouldn’t be easy.

It would sound great and all, until he gets to vet school. And day 1 all he can think is “what the hell was I thinking?” This is all science. And most of vet school is about mammals, especially dogs, and he has to take specialty programs on the side for sea animals. He likes dogs and cats, and it is interesting, but that’s not why he’s here. Annabeth tells him to just learn as much as he can. So he does his best. He gets tutoring on the side. He makes good friends, and that helps a lot, but everyone there seems so much smarter than him. But annabeth and his friends help him study. He tries and he tries and he tries. He loves the marine animal programs he does. He thinks it’s so cool learning how sea animals function, and how the ocean/environment affects them. But the standard veterinary school course material is difficult for him to stay focused on. His grades aren’t the best, but he gets through it.

And after 3 years, he gets handed a white coat and stethoscope. And he feels like an imposter. He’s not a doctor! He’s not a healer like children of apollo. He’s not a genius like children of athena. He’s percy. This feels wrong. It feels good, and he’s proud of himself, but it also feels wrong.

Then his first day of residency, at a marine animal clinic, he is walking through his little orientation with the fellow residents and the attending vets. The first room they bring him into has a large water tub with a sea turtle in it. It’s not moving. It looks so sick and miserable. The head vet says that they’ve had this turtle for several months and just can’t figure out what’s wrong. She won’t eat, she won’t interact with other animals, she barely opens her eyes. They have decided to put her out of her misery, and tomorrow she will be euthanized. Percy steps away from the group and asks to approach her. He goes up to her, bends down, and put his hand on her shell. He telepathically asks what’s wrong, and she responds “My head. My head hurts so bad all the time. Ever since having my babies. It hurts to swim. It hurts to be in the light. I feel sick always. Please make the pain go away.” And Percy stands up and starts asking the attending vets questions about her history and her treatments. At first he panics because he doesn’t know what to do. But then he realizes… he does know what to do. He learned this! So he suggests a treatment. Most of the vets in the room laugh or give him a doubtful look, but he begs them to try it anyway. So they do it, and within half an hour, this sweet sea turtle is happily swimming around the tub. She’s popping her head up to say hi. She’s even eating.

The other vets tried for months. No tests showed what was wrong. But Perseus Jackson walked in, spent two minutes staring at her, and cured her. Because he has powers that no one else has. The other vets only know how to read and observe signs, but Percy can listen to their symptoms.

And after that, every second of learning about animal anatomy and physiology was worth it. Because HE just got to save a sea turtle’s life. HIM!!

And that is why Percy Jackson very quickly becomes one of the best marine veterinarians in the field.

for years, y/n had tried so hard to gain her mother's approval. she had done everything: she studied until dawn, trained like no tomorrow, sacrificed her life and sanity, and defended this wicked woman to her peers.

was this a curse her mother had placed on her? the overwhelming feeling of inferiority that would follow her everywhere. she hated herself, she hated everything about herself, and everybody returned the sentiment. from her mother to her boyfriend, she was just unlovable.

and the one time she needed percy, he wasn't there for her.

hours passed by as y/n wept, and once it struck midnight, she had run out of tears. she steadily got up and drank a sip of water before sitting on her couch. she brought her knees to her chest as she looked out to the city.

suddenly, there was a knock on the door. she didn't have energy to talk to anyone right now.

the knock persisted and she opened the door to see sea green eyes staring at her. she defeatedly opened the door and let him in.

"sorry it took me so long, annie was really upset-"

at first she thought you were talking about astrology and wasn't all that interested, but then she saw the massive amount of books you had on the stars and understood

dare i say she takes you on stargazing dates where you just point out all the constellations and all the stars we'll never see

has watched about 8 space documentaries in one week, and still isn't tired of it

also ! when ever she's drafting up home designs, she ALWAYS puts a room with a glass ceiling or balcony so you can put your telescope there

bought you one of those little star projectors when you guys moved into New Rome !

you guys also made paper lanterns of all the planets + pluto and hung them up on the ceiling since you rarely get to go out much one you go to college

speaking of pluto.. you guys didn't speak for three days over an argument over the basis of it being a planet or not. annabeth refuses to say it is because scientifically it's not, but you say it is because "emotionally it's a planet to me !" (real conversation i've had btw)

“Breathe [Name], my mom is going to love you” Percy chuckles out, trying his best to reassure you of your worries. He leads you up the stairs to his and his mom’s apartment, a hand gently against your back as a way to soothe your nerves.

In your hands were a bouquet of flowers, that you were going to gift to your boyfriend’s mother, your fingers nervously fidgeting with the stems. “What if she doesn’t?” you exclaim, the feeling of your heart thumping against your chest as you neared your destination. The thought of Percy's mother not liking you was something that had been constantly on your mind for the past few weeks since arranging for you to stay at Percy’s house for the holidays. “My last boyfriend’s mom hated me!” you whine, your eyes widening at the memory of you in 4th Grade knocking on your “boyfriend’s” front door, so you could hang out and his mom answering. Let’s just say she was not happy to know her baby boy was being taken from her. You weren’t really bothered anyway, being in 4th Grade it was your first relationship, which only lasted two weeks. But this relationship, you were dead serious about this one. You care about Percy and needed his mom to like you!

Chuckling at your getting so stressed about whether his mom was going to like you or not, Percy wrapped a strong arm over your shoulders, pulling you into him as they both walked down the corridor. “Trust me” Percy starts, his tone warm and reassuring. “My mom is going to love you” he repeats the same line he’s been telling you since picking you up from camp. He then pressed his lips against your cheek, the feeling melting away the worry that had been brewing inside you.

Butterflies formed in your stomach and you couldn’t help the smell smile growing on your lips. You were nervous as fuck about meeting his mother, but at the same time, the warmth of your boyfriend’s arm over your shoulder, and his lips against your cheek was enough to calm your raging nerves. “Maybe you’re right…” you sigh out while looking away bashfully. Maybe you’re overthinking things, maybe you and Sally will become great friends even!

“Good” Percy finally voice speaks up, snapping you out of your thoughts. “Because we’re here” he informs as he takes his arm off your shoulder and his knuckles thumping against the door, the sound echoed through the corridor of the apartment complex. Immediately your confidence fades away and your grip you had on the flowers tightens. Not ready, you were definitely not ready. Noticing from the corner of his eye of you about to make a break for it. “Oh no you don’t” Percy swiftly wrapped his arm around your waist, keeping a firm grip to stop you from escaping, just as the door opened.

On the other side of the door, stood a woman with a smile so bright, it could rival Apollo’s. Her chestnut brown hair sat perfectly against her shoulders as her blue eyes held the same brightest as her smile. This was the famous Sally Jackson, the Mother of Percy Jackson. Quickly as she saw her son, Sally engulfed him in a hug. “Percy!” She sighs in relief at seeing him. After a few moments, Sally pulled away, her hands cupping her son's cheeks. “I hope you made it here safely and there was no complications?” She asks, her eyes scanning Percy's body for injuries.

Percy shrugged his mom off him, a slight pink tint appearing on his cheek. “Mom…” the messy-haired teenager muttered out, embarrassed that, you, his girlfriend, were watching this interaction. “I’m fine. No need to worry so much…” Sally just chuckled at her son, before her attention turned to you.

You stiffened slightly, now having the woman’s attention now on you. Her smile never faulted, actually, it got brighter, if that was ever possible. “And you must be [Name]” Sally says her voice was like honey, sweet and smooth, that was comforting. But all you could reply with a simple nod.

Noticing how tense you seem to be, Percy gently nudges his shoulder into yours. The unexpected contact startling you out of your thoughts. Lifting your gaze to look up at him, you saw him pointing at something with his eyes. Confused for a moment before you realised it was the flowers he was looking at. Making an O shape with your mouth, it finally clicking at what he was trying to tell you. ‘Give her the flowers’. Turning back to Sally, you smiled sheepishly. In the back of your head, you were screaming at yourself, you were already screwing this up! How embarrassing is that?! “For you, Miss Jackson” you manage to speak out, holding the flowers out towards her.

Taking the flowers, Sally brought them to her nose and took a deep inhale. Closing her eyes, a smile spread across her lips. Her blue eyes opened, and her attention was focused on the young demi-god before her. She then took a step towards you, pulling you into a tight hug. The sudden movement startled you. For a moment you just stood there, shocked by what had just happened. “Thank you, dear. And please call me Sally” Sally says softly as she pulls away, her smile still present. Relaxing, a blush crept across your face and you nodded in reply. Feeling the heat, you rubbed the back of your neck shyly. Not sure what to do or say, you glanced up at Percy, who was smiling proudly. “Come in” Sally says as she moves to the side for you and Percy to make your way inside.

You walked into the apartment, immediately being hit with the scent of freshly baked cookies. The delicious aroma filled the air making your mouth water instantly. Percy appeared beside you, wrapping an arm casually around your shoulders “Mmm, smells amazing, right” he asked, his arm resting comfortably around you. You nodded in agreement, the scent making your stomach rumble. “My mom makes the best cookies” he informed, a smile growing across his lips. You knew this, Percy would talk non-stop about how his mom is an amazing baker. But you always wondered, were his claims true or were they exaggerated. You guess today was the day you found out.

Sally walked out of the kitchen, holding the freshly baked cookies. The cookies themselves were an eye-catching deep blue, adorned with generous chocolate chips that dotted their surface. Gods they looked delicious. "Take one," Sally said, offering you the tray.

Percy's eyes lit up at the word, a sly smirk playing on his lips. “Oh, don’t mind if I do,” he said, reaching out to grab one of the enticing treats. Before he could pick up the cookie his hand was gently smacked away by his mother, who sent him a disapproving frown. “Our guests first” she said firmly, her tone leaving no room for argument. All Percy could do was pout dramatically as he watched you pick up a cookie, bringing it to your lips. Sweet, buttery dough melted in your mouth and was quickly followed by the satisfying crunch of the chocolate chips.

Sally retreated back to the kitchen, leaving you and Percy alone, who had now with his mom’s famous cookies in hand. “See” speaking to you with a mouthful of the treat. “Told you she’ll love you.” He looked incredibly smug as he chewed, his eyes sparkling with satisfaction as if he had just proven himself right about something.
