Octonauts Headcanons because they consume my brain (sleep edition)

Shellington cannot sleep if he isn't holding something, usually a plush toy or his own paw.

Dashi takes a while to get comfortable, tossing and turning for up to an hour.

Captain Barnacles has a special cooling blanket because polar bear.

The vegimals will routinely sleep in one big pile of the greenhouse floor for no apparent reason.

When stressed, Peso will make a nest out of blankets and pillows to sleep in.

Kwazii will knead his pillow before he goes to bed.

Tweak is a very active sleeper. She's a sleep-talker and -walker.

Inkling will occasionally fall asleep in the library. His little ear things will also twitch if you touch them.

I wonder if scarecrow marks his territory by spraying fear toxin around, similarly to how cats mark their territory but thankfully it isn't as gross

malone goons wondering around on the outskirts of penguins territory and then booking when they smell anything vaguely chemical

(it wasn't scarecrows territory, it was just really bad perfume smell, scarecrows "land" starts near the gotham museum and spans to abandoned chemical plants. it just barely touches romans territory at the far left side)

One of my favorite dialogues in Arkham Knight is when Batman is bringing the Penguin to the GCPD, and Oswald is threatening to kill Nightwing in the future. And Bruce, who is not doing well at all at this point, just has enough. So it goes like this in the original:

Batman: Your choice, GCPD or the morgue.

The Penguin: *slightly scared* We both know you don't kill.

Batman: I don't feel like myself tonight.

The Penguin: *terrified* I'm sure you will feel better tomorrow.

Anyway, it's great. Bruce is tired of watching the people he loves die, the Joker is getting stronger in his mind, and yeah, it would be so scary to hear Batman be like "I'm not feeling like myself". But, in the french version, he says something a little different. He says "Ce soir, j'ai des envies de meurtre", which can be translated to "Tonight, I have urges to murder" And that worse to hear. Batman? Saying that he kind of wants to kill someone? Yeah, terrifying.

As a funfact for y'all, you know how Peso has a Latino accent in the US version of the show, right?

Turns out there's a part of Antarctica that belongs to Argentina and also another one that belongs to Chile, which are both countries that belong to South America and are considered Latino countries. And yup, i researched, there are penguins who live in both of them. Funny thing? These countries' native currencies are called "Peso". Argentine Peso and Chilean Peso, but they're both called Peso.

The creators actually researched and named Peso after the currency intentionally and i'm dying. 😭✨‼️

As a Latina, i already knew this, but i thought i might as well share this piece of information to y'all because YES. Might make an in-depth post abt this later btw, especifically about how the education system works in both of those countries and an approximate age of how old Peso would be (or is) if he graduated from his Medical School THERE.

I personally headcanon that Peso is from Chile, but that's just me being biased because The Octonauts' VA'S from the Latin Spanish dubs are Chilean lol- (I'm neither from Chile or Argentina but the fact that the VA'S are Chilean makes me headcanon that 😭) (Most of the VA'S from the Latin Spanish dub of The Octonauts also worked for the Latin Spanish dub of Avatar: The Last Airbender, just another lil' funfact).

Anyways, enough rambling, this whole thing was pretty interesting to investigate even though i knew most of it (but i managed to investigate in a more in-depth manner) ngl.

Something I don’t hear many people talk about is how significant the name „Edward Nashton” actually is for the Batman 2022. The name Edward Nigma/ Edward Nygma has been used for YEARS in both comics and in media such as the Gotham TV show but nobody talks about WHY they called him Nashton and not Nygma and I’m going insane!!

TW// Brief mention of child abuse.

In his original story line, Ed was abused by his father in the classic puzzle story line where his father accused him of cheating in the contest. THAT is why he changed his name from Nashton to Nygma. So that he could stray away from memories of his abusive father.

In the Batman 2022, Ed’s story was changed, Ed was now an orphan who grew up in the orphanage. Ed did NOT have any negative memories of his father. Therefore he never felt the need to change his name from Nashton to Nygma. This wasn’t just a random name change, this was a DELIBERATE choice made by Reeves and Craig to show the impact of his different origin!!
