i'm gonna level here. nothing annoys me more than people who genuinely refuse to interact with things in a way other than judging it through fandom. Not in the sense of shipping or whatever (although that's a close fucking second,) but like. By literally judging "is this a fandom I want to get into."

like yeah. maybe [INSERT THING HERE] fans are annoying and people are weird about it, but if your first response is to reflectively reject the art itself, too? I just can't understand it. so many people just cut themselves off from legitamately lifechanging art because they just. Can't think of it as a piece of art separate from the people that latched onto it?

Especially because it just. Loops back around so harshly sometime. I have a friend who really really hates when people fetishize female characters, which is, ya know, fucking fair! However they generally will say "people fetishize her too much," and rather than say "and those people suck ass," will instead jump to "so that's why I hate this character." and like. Bud you've just accidentally looped back around to disliking basically every woman in anything by default, take a step back here

idk like. maybe it's just my special brand of detachment, but i think people could do with being a little more detatched.
