(It really took me a lot this time to write it, but in my defense I have a lot to do 😅😅 it's really not a super chapter but it has some hints for what will come next...so enjoy ^^)

Hold My Hand - part 13

After the chat with Darkness, MC had paused to reflect on the driveway steps. Everything that person had told her seemed surreal. A cognitive recalibration program? People would do anything for power, even forget the value of human life. At the mere thought of what these people could do with that weapon in hand, she shivered. She had to keep Dedalus safe. Under no circumstances should she have handed it over to Jake and Sarah's kidnappers.

She rubbed her temple slowly. Now she had to rearrange her ideas and try to think about the next move. The most important thing to do at the time was to keep Dedalus under control. Making sure that no one approached the program or Lilly, was a priority.

She sighed looking one last time at the screen of her phone, wondering how Jake was doing. Maybe, she told herself, a stupid question since he's been tortured in a cold and dark dungeon. She returned to the house taking care to lock the front door and at that very moment she heard Dan complaining.

MC: "Everything all right?"

D: "Absolutely."

He was sitting at the table, arms crossed to the chest and a grumpy face on.

MC: "For some reason I don't believe you..."

Dan snored raising his right arm and pointing at Alan's room.

D: "He's injured and wants to play the hero of the situation."

MC: "Looks to me you two are very much alike."

D: "Was that suppose to be a compliment?"

MC: "More like a matter of fact. You did the same back in the days and yet you're surprised there is someone stubborn like you at this world."

D: "Oh, come on! I was totally fine!"

MC: "Totally fine...on an wheelchair. Yup, absolutely."

D: "At least I have been useful. I shot that son of a bitch and...and..."

He knew he had crossed the line. He looked down and closed his eyes, sighing. MC saw the man's face saddened and approached him sitting on the chair right in front of him.

MC: "Okay. Why don't you tell me what's really going on here?"

Dan looked at her for a long moment, then shook his head slightly and smiled sadly at her.

D: "I'm fine. Like always. Don't try to find something that there isn't."

MC: "I'm not."

D: "Then leave it. Just have a moment for yourself and relax. But I'm telling you, if he continues with that attitude I will drag him to the Hospital by his hairs like a caveman."

She smiled at the joke imagining the scene. Then she met Dan's gaze once more, stretched out her arm over the table, and put her hand on the man's arm.

MC: "I see. But I will always have time for a drink, if you'll ever need to."

D: "Yeah. Thanks, MC."

At that moment Lilly entered the salon and MC saw Dan quickly put the small object back in his pants pocket.

L: "Okay, I spoke with Hannah and she told me that everything is fine at the Aurora. Phil told them to stay for as long as they need, but he wants to speak to you."

MC: "Me? Why?"

L: "Don't know but it felt important."

MC: "Then I'll text him now. I wonder what he needs to tell me."

L: "Good, I'll cook something to eat in the meantime. We all need to recharge. Come on Dan, I need a hand."

D: "Oh yes, girl. You choose the fucking God of Food. Be ready to be amazed!"

Lilly made a gesture with her hand as if she was chasing away a fly.

L: "Yeah, sure Dan."

Watching the two of them disappear behind the door of the kitchen she approached the sofa in the living room, sat on the soft cushions and opened the chat with the man.

MC: "Hello stranger."

She didn't need to wait too long for the answer.

P: "Look who's in town. ;)"

MC: "Lilly said you wanted to talk to me. What's up?"

P: "Straight to the point. I see..."

MC: "Sorry. I didn't mean to be rude, but I'm a bit tired. And curious. You wanted to talk to me, why?"

P: "Maybe I just wanted to hear you, see how you're doing. You disappeared for a whole year."

MC: "With good reasons."

P: "I know."

MC: "Wait, you were worried about me?"

P: "..."

He stopped for a few seconds.

P: "No."

MC: ";)"

P: "Would that be a bad thing?"

MC: "Not at all, no."

He stopped again leaving she wondering what was going on.

P: "I wanted to thank you, MC."

MC: "For what?"

P: "For believing in my innocence."

MC: "Well, I couldn't let an innocent man in prison. That's not who I am. Besides, I wasn't the only one. Jessy fought like a lioness for you."

P: "I know. She went to pick me up when they discharged me. We had a long talk after that."

MC: "So now you two are good?"

P: "We still have things to solve, but we are closer than we were. The only one left to thank was you and by the way, don't act like you didn't do anything. I owe you a big one. :)"

MC: "Well...you're welcome. :)"

She smiled at her phone happy for both Jessy and Phil. 

P: "So, since we had this matter covered I should probably tell you the other thing."

She waited while Phil was writing, hearing Lilly and Dan laughing in the kitchen. She smiled as well. Despite what they were going through, those little moments were what they needed.

P: "After Alan discharged me from all the accusations, he kinda became a regular guest at the Aurora. He said he wasn't sure if he could tell the bunch everything, but he needed someone trusted to keep an eye on the group."

MC: "Okay...I guess. So you two became best buddies, that's new."

P: "..."

MC: "Okay, okay. You helped him. Then what?"

P: "She told me about her daughter and that he was desperate. That's why I suggested him ask for your help."

MC: "Wait, what? I thought..."

P: "Don't worry he replied with a big no. He told me you had already done enough, but when your friend got caught he didn't have a choice. Anyway I did what he told me to do and one day a lady came at the Aurora. She didn't say much at first, then she started to flirt with me."

MC: "And that's weird because...?"

P: "I'm not stupid, MC, I know when someone has other intentions. She wasn't flirting with me, she wanted to know about the police's Chief. She wanted to know exactly where she could find him."

MC: "What!?"

P: "You read that right."

MC: "Who was she?"

P: "I don't know, but I haven't told her anything. I just said that was none of her business and that if she wanted to contact him, she could use her leg or the phone. After that she left, but not without giving me a creepy look."

MC: "A woman. Did she tell you something about herself? Something that could help us identify her?"

P: "I'm afraid she didn't. But as she walked out she received a call. I wasn't able to hear much, just a strange name."

MC: "Define strange."

P: " 'Prometheus' . Does that mean something for you?"

MC: "I'm not sure, but I see a certain pattern with the Greek mythology. I can't say it for sure, but you have probably met one of the bad guys."

P: "Hey, if you need I can try to find this woman. I can recognize her in a mile."

MC: "No, please! Stay where you are and keep watching the group."

P: "I can take care of myself MC."

MC: "I know you can...it's just..."

P: "Who's worried now? :)"

MC: "Look, the situation is already bad. I don't want them to have an excuse to hurt someone close to me, again..."

P: "That's why you shouldn't worry. We're not so close MC."

MC: "Phil please, don't do anything stupid. You already have a job okay? You've never did something stupid, don't start now. These people are dangerous."

P: "Fine. But if she shows up again at the Aurora..."

MC: "Then you'll call me. Only me."

P: "..."

MC: "Phil I'm dead serious. We have to work together or we'll never see the end of this situation. Don't you trust me?"

P: "I do trust you."

MC: "Then keep everyone safe and text me if something happens."

P: "...they made it personal, MC."

At that point she realized. He was pissed for what they did at Jessy's. She wasn't sure since he never showed that kind of attachment to the girl or to the group, but it was also true that she never talked to him about his feeling for everything that happened, back in the days.

MC: "We'll stop them, Phil and that's a promise."
