Steve acts on instinct.
There’s this guy in all black walking in front of him, he’s too busy looking down at his phone to notice, but Steve doesn’t trust that lamppost. He’s been going for daily runs, he likes to keep it simple during the off-season, and that post has been getting more rickety every day. Now it’s swaying dangerously in the wind and he knows it’s about to tumble.
There’s no time to call out to the guy, so Steve just plows forward and tackles him out of the way.
They fall in a messy heap and Steve unfortunately lands heavily on top.
“Holy shit! What the— ugh!” The guy heaves in pain and Steve hurries to scramble off of him.
“Sorry, that post was about to fall on you, man. You alright?”
Pieces of grass stick to the guy’s long hair as he takes stock of Steve and what happened. With a labored breath, he surprisingly jokes, “Guess I’m lucky the best football tackler alive happened to be right behind me.”
It’s sarcastic as shit but Steve smiles with a tug of amusement as he offers his hand. “Baseball, actually.”
“You’re in the wrong league, man,” he lets Steve pull him to his feet and groans on the way up. “Well, nice to meet you, Baseball, you pack a hell of a first impression. I’m Eddie.”
Steve would appreciate his ability to joke so soon after taking a hit, but people are starting to gather around. There’s already phones pointed at them that probably caught the whole thing on camera. Steve’s used to public attention by now, knows the press is going to have a field day with this and he hates causing a scene, but he wants to make sure Eddie is okay.
“Just Steve is good. You wanna…? This way,” he gestures toward the sidewalk and thankfully, Eddie seems just as eager to get out of there too, shuffling next to Steve as they round the corner.
He’s wearing so much metal jewelry, it’s like a costume, the jingle jangle of his every step accentuating how shaken up he seems. They get far enough behind a building and Steve stops to have a real look at him and… well he’s interesting to look at.
It’s like he hopped off the album cover of an 80s rock band, or one of Steve’s Bon Jovi posters that he hid under his bed in high school. Way too much leather and way too much hair for the California sun, all disheveled with grass and dirt.
“You sure you’re okay? Here, you got a little…” Steve’s hand hovers until Eddie nods that it’s okay from him to pluck the grass from his hair and lightly brush the dust from his shoulders. Eddie watches him the whole time, his eyes big and dark, an intensity in them that Steve can’t quite read but he can feel. “Didn’t hit your head or anything, did you?”
Steve lowers his hands, stepping back a little when he realizes how close they are. Eddie’s eyes follow him, a slight quirk to his lips that makes Steve feel the heat of the sun a little warmer on his face.
“I’m touched by your concern, sweetheart, but my brain has been through worse damage than a little bump.”
Steve frowns at the ladder, but the first bit definitely makes him feel the heat. He’s admittedly a bit out of practice but he can still recognize a come on. One that he definitely invited with all the touching and indulgent looks.
Then Eddie starts profusely thanking him for the whole ordeal, asking to treat him somewhere nearby for lunch. It’s not that Steve doesn’t want to, he’s very interested actually, and thankful that out of all the jewelry Eddie’s sporting, there’s no wedding ring. That’s why he’s reluctant because he’s all sweaty at the moment. Not to mention, he didn’t finish his run yet.
“Surely saving my life was enough cardio,” Eddie jokes lightly and Steve snorts.
“I saved you from a minor concussion, maybe,” and okay he’s gotta accept now.
The place is small and unassuming, burgers and sodas type joint. Steve’s likely to be recognized there, which he doesn’t mind meeting fans in public just preferably not now, it might be jarring for Eddie.
He heads for the booth tucked in the back corner, the most private looking spot that Steve had his eyes on too. They get a round of sodas from the waitress and right away, Eddie starts thanking him again.
“I noticed that lamppost wobbling days ago,” Steve sparks a conversation instead of accepting any more thanks, “I was planning to let it fall on me so I could sue the shit out of the city.”
He’s pleasantly startled by the big cackle that gets out of Eddie, “Any chance to stick it to the man. I admire that.”
“‘Course I would’ve really stuck it to ‘em and donated it back to the community,” Steve adds.
“Giving the people’s money back to the people, imagine Big Brother’s horror. Noble guy.”
Eddie seems to bubble with contagious delight that doesn’t match his whole leather and chains thing at all, but it fits into the somewhat magic of him. It's a wonder to Steve.
“Do I know you from somewhere?” Eddie ventures, a glint of recognition in his eyes that Steve’s seen a thousand times. He doesn’t ping Eddie as much of a sports guy and he’s not vain enough to assume everyone knows who he is. Eddie’s probably seen him while flipping the channel past ESPN or something. Or maybe an ad for that Netflix thing he did documenting last year’s season.
“I think I’d definitely remember you.”
Steve didn’t mean it as a come-on, just that Eddie’s appearance really isn’t forgettable, but he can tell by the wicked little grin Eddie sports that it was taken as one. Steve likes that even better.
“Have you ever modeled, or anything? You’ve got the looks for it.”
Biting back a smile of his own, Steve shakes his head. “I bet you say that to everyone who saves your life.”
“None of them were half as good looking." That sounds concerning but Steve’s distracted by Eddie swirling his straw in his drink, regarding him with a long look. “Really though, I just feel like I’ve seen you before.”
Steve’s done a few covers of Sports Illustrated, but he doubts Eddie has ever picked up a copy of that, so he shrugs. “Must’ve been in your dreams.”
Eddie laughs softer this time. “You trying to sweep me off my feet or something?”
“Already did.” Steve leans back, enjoying the way Eddie’s eyes follow him.
Conversation sparks and it never really dies out. Eddie just grabs topics out of thin air, talking about the city and what they like to do and movies and his amazement that Steve knows all about D&D because he’s a nerd magnet. Eddie’s personality spills through everything he says like it can’t be contained. He’s talkative in a good way, not to a point where Steve can’t get a word in. He listens intently, has a way of putting all his attention onto Steve like he’s the most interesting person he’s ever spoken to.
It’s surprisingly easy to relax. Not because Eddie has a super calming presence or anything, his energy is just all-encompassing, it’s hard for Steve not to get sucked in and hang on to every word he says. It’s one of the rare times in public that he’s not hyper-aware of everyone around him and too paranoid of having a photo snapped and taken out of context to even enjoy himself.
That happens a lot, being one of the only professional athletes who’s open about his sexuality. The media is extremely invasive with his private life. If he’s seen with any guy friend, there’s a whole press storm about Steve Harrington’s “secret beau” within the hour. It’s ridiculous and he tries so hard to keep his lovelife under wraps that maybe he’s been neglecting it entirely, at least that’s what Robin says.
Of course, that’s when his phone lights up with a message from her. His heart sinks a little when he sees the title of the article she sent to him. He quickly shoots her a text and locks his phone without reading it.
“Everything alright?” Eddie notices the shift in Steve’s mood right away.
“Yeah just,” he sighs, bracing for the inevitable part when Eddie realizes Steve isn’t worth the hassle of all this, “Someone filmed us earlier and now it’s all over the press. I’m really sorry, I totally get it if—”
“Nah, don’t worry about it, it’s fine. I figured that would happen,” Eddie brushes it off, but Steve shakes his head.
“I don’t think you understand, it’s—”
“Wanna bet?” Eddie smirks for some reason, “I’m fine with it, I promise.”
He tosses a chip into his mouth and picks right back up with the story he was telling.
Steve is stunned for a moment, wary that maybe Eddie doesn’t fully grasp how deep this goes. But he stays there with Steve, seemingly thrilled to keep talking with him even when a family comes in and keeps staring their way, obviously building up the courage to come over and ask for a picture. Eddie’s acting like Steve’s the only person in the room and that’s enough to assure Steve that he’s really fine with it.
He’s so locked into Eddie, he barely registers when the older son from the family’s table finally wanders over and asks for a picture.
Steve is in the middle of wiping his face with a napkin, about to greet him when suddenly, Eddie pops up and asks Steve to excuse him for a minute.
“C’mon little man, let’s do it,” he says and much to Steve’s confusion, the teen excitedly goes with Eddie to his family’s table.
Steve watches, utterly baffled, as they start snapping photos and expressing what big fans they are and Eddie takes it with such bravado, laughing and chatting like he’s with a group of friends.
What the— Steve grabs his phone, opening the article Robin sent him at lightning speed.
At first, he wonders how the press was able to find out Eddie’s full name so quickly, then he sees the words "troubled rockstar" and "recovering star" so many times, it becomes abundantly clear.
Oh.
He’s not so worried about the troubled part, everyone has their shit and he doesn’t read into any of it. Those are Eddie’s stories to tell Steve if he chooses, not some tabloid. But the rockstar part connects a lot of dots that have come up in the last couple of hours since meeting Eddie and—
Yeah, just. Oh.

redesigning star dresses part 1!
part 2 and part 3
notes and individual pieces below <3
keep this in mind i love the og stardresses! i just wanted to challenge myself and i’m an inspiring fashion designer!!! my goal was to create dresses that reflect the spirits and u could easily match them up.

these were my initial sketches, i wanted every dress/outfit to have a different colour and silhouette to make them more recognisable.
aries ~
- pink was the obvious choice for a colour. I didn’t want to use any major black like in the og design because aries design is so light and bright!
- i really think the og stardress hair is lacking. A fun fluffy 80s hair adds to the whole sheep aesthetic and creates a different silhouette to other designs.
- the 80s hair also inspired a more 80s look with fluffy legwarmers and big hoop earrings.
- i also wanted to bring in those pink pompoms on the side of aries dress so i made them star shaped and put them in lucy’s hair
taurus ~
- why put her in a bikini if she’s a cowboy??? this haunts me everyday.
- I couldn’t put her in mainly black and white cos that’s virgo i comprised and landed on a brown.
- for inspiration it was pretty obvious to go with a cowboys and the wild west! i always disliked the one leg pants her og design has so i modified it to a cut out.
- her og design was a mix of the aquarius and scorpio one and it always didn’t stand out to me, so i think by exaggerating the cowboy aesthetic it stands out much more.
gemini ~
- her og design is actually one my favs. so i really only made minor changes
- the colours stood out against other dresses and were easily identified as gemini. the dual colour symmetrical dress is a great way to reflect the double spirit.
- Gemini is a pretty symbol spirit so to reflect them i used circular shapes and organic lines. i changed the head piece mainly because i struggled drawing it but i realised it made the design too top heavy anyways.
- i extended the dress width and length mainly for silhouette reasons (she wears so many skin tight dresses) as well as to give a nod to the dresses the alternate geminis wear.
cancer ~
- my issue with cancer star dress isn’t the dress itself. I actually love the dress in the manga. it’s the colour. WHY IS GREEN?!?
- if it weren’t for the symbol i wouldn’t be able to match this dress with cancers design, so it had to change.
- other than that there’s no major differences, the ribbon tie is meant to resemble scissors, i love the claw shape hair ties in the og design so i brought them back and i brought the stripes in cancers top to her bow.
leo ~
- i was inspired by beauty and the beast, in the movie the beast kinda looks like lion.
- i swapped the yellow and black in the og design since it has a pretty similar colour story to virgos dress. The og kinda gets lost next to leo since the black doesn’t have variation and leo is in a deep black too.
- i wanted to make her hair bigger like a lions mane and curled around her face.

I think movie buff Duke Thomas should force Jason to watch the LOTR movies and literature nerd Jason Todd should force Duke to read the books.
They should make a movie night out of it and then a weekly book club that's really just Jason periodically hacking comms during Duke's patrol so he can yell at him to finish each chapter like a deranged English teacher that follows you around at work. And then they should get into heated arguments about Tom Bombadil; and Duke should get really invested in overanalyzing all the poetry in the book trilogy; and Jason should rewatch all three movies like seven times at least so he can scribble thoughts into the margins of his paperback copies, write dissertations in his head about the effectiveness of different story changes, and cry at Sam's "But I can carry you!" without having to stop reading.
And then they should repeat all of this with The Hobbit. They're both a little psychotic about it and the rest of the family is tired.
#added the tags and more stuff to a reblog!#genuinely I think tom bombadil would frustrate the fuck out of duke#that boy loves the thrill of discovery and putting all the puzzle pieces together and tom bombadil is unsolvable#and I think jason would resonate a lot more with the movie ending than with the book ending#coming home from a life-changing journey to find that everything has stayed the same#like that would hit different for him than the scouring of the shire#duke thomas#jason todd#signal dc#signal#red hood#batfam#batfamily#jason also tries to get duke to read the silmarillion AND beren and luthien#“but you said beren and whatever is already in the other one!”#“that's just one version you need to read all of them for the full experience!”#“NO”#“YES”#EDIT: I've decided that duke and jason have a tom bombadil murder board#it's got cutouts of book lines and Tolkien quotes and artwork and written snapshots of Tolkien's history#all connected with color-coded string and littered with sticky notes and scattered scribbles#some parts are highlighted#it takes up two sides of a whiteboard in the batcave and a whole wall in one of jason's safehouses#one of the other batfamily members sees the safehouse version once and wisely does not comment#duke and jason can go on about this shit for hours and as soon as you get one going the other will materialize and cause problems#but anyway#duke and jason the brothers ever

One of Dick's greatest strengths is his ability to manipulate every single person in existence.
Genuinely I think this makes him the smartest person in the room. Not only is he a brilliant detective, but the fact that he's able to outmaneuver and control virtually everyone including other geniuses and masterminds makes him the most terrifying. There's a reason why his enemies have give up using intelligence against him and simply resorting to brute force.
Now hold your horses before you bring your crowbars and let me explain.
Dick once said, "On an even playing field, I always win."
And it's true. But how do you even the field if your enemies are geniuses, detectives, or metas?
"Well, if you don't like how the table is it, turn over the table."
And that's exactly what Dick does.
Let's begin from his younger years. Dick is 19, newly out of Batman's wing and in no position to take on a skilled mercenary on by himself. But the mercenary isn't going to stop just because he says please. So.
DEATHSTROKE WAS CLEARLY NOT EXPECTING TO GET OUTPLAYED BY A 19 YEAR OLD.
"You're right Slade, he's not a fool so choose a dumber kidnapping victim next time."
Ofcourse this is the least of his abilities.

This cover is perfect because it shows how two of them are literally in a constant game of chess. And evidence of Dick's tactical expertise was never more obvious than the bombing of Bludhaven.
By all means Dick had won.
And he's right. Dick is incredibly intelligent, and he has to be given how he maneuvered the entirety of the world to save him city. Not just the heroes and villains, but everyone - the heroes, the villains, the government, the civilians, the organized crime - everyone. He ruled the freaking world at that moment.
@haroldhighballjordan actually made a post about this that explains this scene so well
But yeah Slade knew he lost so in his petty vengeance what he basically did was set the whole fucking chessboard on fire.
The perfection to which Dick had calculated and moved millions of people to force Slade into abandoning their game and leave him shrieking and seething in rage over his loss. Another reminder that this game only happened because Dick manipulated Rose away from her father, away from his control to a better life.
Spyral is one of my favorite comics because it shows just how good of a manipulator Dick Grayson is.
One of Dick's coldest traits is his ability to manipulate a situation to fit his needs.
In the beginning Dick wanted to calm the meta down and take him in but the second his opponent let out the slightest hint of weakness, look how fast he flips his words. This man is brilliant.
And his planning came to fruition as the meta wore himself out, allowing Dick to take control of the situation and the opponent with no harm to himself-a quick, two second exit. He can manipulate emotions, thoughts, and people to get what he wants like he's playing chess with a child.
But it's not just other people- he can completely change himself to become a whole new person. In the earlier chapters, Dick is learning how to shoot a gun for the agency.
Dick's a terrible shot. Not a single bullet lands in the center of the target-there's no way he's ever going to shoot well....or atleast that's what he wants you to think-

"Yeah, well, that's what spies do."

"We lie."
He's a puppet master and the final boss.

who? spencer reid (s6/7) x mayor!reader summary: after a schoolbus full of kids goes missing, right near the end of your first term as mayor, an old flame is called to help, and he intends to make things right. content warnings: child abduction, politics word count: 1.2k a/n: based on req: a case takes the BAU back to Pasadena, California (Spencer’s old college town) where they encounter Spencer’s ex who also happens to be the mayor.
He hasn’t seen you in over a decade, and honestly, he hadn’t thought you’d still be here, in Pasadena of all places, in the same precinct they were going to be working out of, trying to solve a serial child abduction case, least of all talking to the captain and the police chief. To be fair, all he really knew was that you had gotten into Stanford, the leg up into politics that you had wanted all along. Spencer swallowed, deaf to anything the lead detective was saying as he watched you in the glass panelled office, acting like it was yours as you listened to both men in uniform talk to you deferentially.
“Reid?” Hotch’s voice brings him back to the conversation at hand.
“Hm?” Spencer asked, looking at his own chief, Derek looking down to hide his amused smile. “I’m sorry, just, uh… who’s that in there? With the police chief?” he asked the detective.
“That’d be the mayor,” the detective — Bryant something — replied. “There’s a lot of pressure to find these kids, and we’re already under fire for not seeing the pattern sooner.” Once again, everything falls away as he pieced that into his limited information on you. Mayor? You? He looked back over his shoulder to the glass office, the police chief leading you out of the room and over to… Crap.
“You must be Agent Hotchner,” you said, a polite smile as you raised your hand and if you’d noticed Spencer, you did a very good job of keeping yourself unmoved.
“Madam Mayor,” Hotch replied, shaking your hand, while Spencer did his utmost best to sink into the carpet.
“I’ve followed your team’s work,” you said, eyes scanning over the rest of them, briefly landing on Spencer before returning to Hotch. “I’m hoping you live up to your reputation here. If you need anything, the city’s at your disposal.”
That was 48 hours ago. You were considerably less chipper than you had been back then, while the local PD and the rest of the town was downright hostile to the team. Not a cycle went by that your face wasn’t on the local news, with JJ in the background as their liaison, asking for patience and cooperation from your city, and not for the first time, Spencer felt this pang in his chest as he watched you look at the camera, filled with a sense of failure.
“Reid?” Emily called, looking at him with concern, shaking him out of his thoughts.
“Yeah?”
“You haven’t touched your food,” she reminded him, pointing at his still wrapped burger and he looked down at it.
“I’m not really hungry,” he said lamely, standing up. “I think I need to clear my head.” Emily’s brow was still creased with concern, but she nodded, letting him go without too many questions.
He might as well be burning holes in his sneakers as he walked to city hall, going through white arches, the dome towering over him, flashing his badge at the security personnel so he can go see you. Your secretary looks at him curiously, about to bar his entry until he explains his credentials, and then it’s a question of whether Spencer trumps whatever meeting you’re holed up in.
“The main problem you’re gonna face is from district 6—” You see him through the crack in the door, behind your secretary, as you lean against the back of your desk, listening to your analyst, “—seeing as a lot of the recent abductions have happened in that area. I’ve got confirmation from Chapman’s office that they’re getting calls to challenge you in the electio—”
“Mandy, can we table this for later?” you asked, interrupting the woman who seemed to finally register Spencer’s presence.
Spencer swallowed as Mandy gave him a once-over before leaving the two of you together, closing the door behind her. “You shouldn't be here,” you said, moving to turn the presentation boards around, even though it was useless — you knew Spencer had already memorised them whether he wanted to or not. A decade ago, you had marvelled at his memory, had been envious of it, but since the separation, you were thankful that time had faded the sting of it. Now, he was back, the scab that had grown over the injury torn asunder.
“You're up for re-election?” Spencer asked, watching your every move carefully, and it felt like he had crawled under your skin. It didn't matter how tough you had built it, Spencer knew you too well.
“You're in the FBI?” you asked, mirroring his tone, and when he furrowed his brow, you added, “Sorry, I thought we were asking obvious questions.”
“You haven't changed,” he said wryly and you raised a brow at him.
“You'd be surprised.” You gestured for him to take a seat. “I really hope you're here on official business.”
“I can pretend to be,” Spencer offered with a flicker of a smile. He'd missed your smile, now that he thought about it, and he hasn't seen it once since he came back.
“Spencer,” you said, pained, closing your eyes. “Can we not do this?”
“Do what?” he asked gently, innocent enough and you looked at him.
“Why are you here?” you asked softly, like someone was pulling a splinter from your hand. He'd done that for you once, reciting statistics about bacterial infections to distract you as he gently pulled the little splinter out and swabbed the wound with antiseptic. You'd asked him to kiss it better, in a way that made him forget about bacteria and germs altogether. “Spencer,” you repeated, snapping him out of the memory.
“I'm sorry,” he said gently, stepping closer.
“It's fine,” you said, dismissively, looking at the documents waiting your approval as he came closer, tentatively closing his hand around your wrist, murmuring your name.
“I'm really sorry,” he emphasised and your chest tightens, your breathing halted by his proximity. “I didn't… I didn't want you to see me as some… weird genius. I didn't want you to look at me like everyone—”
“That's your excuse?” you demanded hotly, looking at him with angry tears pricking your eyes. “You didn't want some lowly community college student to feel less than?”
“What? No!”
“Just because I didn't go to CalTech doesn't make me an idiot, Spencer,” you continued. “What, you thought I couldn’t handle knowing you were a PhD student at 18?”
“No, I couldn't,” he insisted, looking down at you. “I… You don't understand what it's like to not be like everyone else—”
“Oh, right, how traumatising it must be to be smarter than everyone—”
“Will you let me finish?” he retorted sharply. “I felt normal around you, don't you get it? Like I wasn't some weirdo or-or a freak. I know, it was selfish a-and I lied to you for months and I shouldn't have but, God, I just wanted to feel like a normal person for once!”
You said nothing, looking up at him for a long moment. “You shouldn't have lied to me,” you said eventually, quietly.
“I know,” he whispered.
“I loved you.”
“I know.”
“I wanted to hate you for so long.”
“I know.”
“I…” Still love you. “I have to get back to work.”
Spencer took a breath, nodding as he stepped back. “I get it,” he said softly. “I just uh… I wanted to explain.”
You swallowed, nodding stiffly. “You look nice, by the way,” he added, looking at you. “Your hair. Um, I'm gonna go,” he said, a blush creeping up his neck as he turned to leave and you smiled to yourself a little.
Some things never changed.
