Fourteenth Week of Year 11
This week I found out the grades I got from my mocks and I had Parents Evening. Parents Evening went great and most teachers said they think I can get a grade 9 in their subject.
English Language - 7
I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't happy either as I got a grade 9 last time but my teacher said that this paper was hard so a 7 is still good. She thinks I can get a grade 9.
English Literature - 8
I was happy with this as I got a grade 8 last time too. She thinks I can get a grade 9 here too.
Maths - 7
I was happy with this as I reached my target grade. My Maths teacher wants me to push myself to a grade 9.
Science - 8-8
I was so happy with this grade as I thought the exams were hard. My Science teacher told me I was 7 marks off a grade 9!
Spanish - 7
I was happy with this grade as last time I got a grade 6. My Spanish teacher wants me to get a grade 8 next time.
History - 5
I wasn't too happy with this grade as I want to do A-level History and I need a grade 6 to do the course. My History teacher thinks I can do better and get a 7.
Drama - 7
I was happy with this, my Drama teacher said that she's very impressed with me.
RE - 7
I was very happy with this as I got the highest in the year group. My RE teacher thinks I can move up to set 1.
Music - P2
This grade is from Component 1 which I wasn't very happy with. I'm hoping Component 2 will be better.

a small child came into the café today and asked to buy a chocolate truffle. he tapped a credit card on the reader and it did not go through, mainly because it was not a credit card but in fact a junior cinema pass. i gently explained he couldn't use that to buy things in shops and he looked so gutted that i was like "...but just this once you can have it for free, don't tell my boss though" he said thank you and walked out with his truffle and as he went i heard him chuckling to himself and saying "yes..... yes!!!!!" like the sickos comic

As a reminder that good exists out there, a coworker recently confessed to me that he found out his child is questioning their identity (kid's gender redacted for this post). The kid is keeping it from him, so he can't say anything to them or show that he knows, but he's doing his best to get mentally prepared and educated so that he'll be ready whenever his kid does feel comfortable enough come to him.
For context, this guy is a big, bulky middle aged dude who loves sports and typical outdoor "manly" activities. As his coworker and friend, I know he's a kind and sweet teddy bear of a person, but his kid probably views him as a stern, authoritarian figure, the way most teenagers view their parents. His family lives in a conservative area, so I'm sure between that, their dad's looks and interests, and the fact that their dad is a Figure of Authority, the kid is worried that they won't be accepted.
But you know what? When he found out about his kid, the first thing he did was reach out to his closest queer friend and ask for resources for parents of questioning children. His biggest fears are that his kid will be bullied or discriminated against and won't feel comfortable enough to be themself. His second action was to find himself a mentor in another parent who went the same situation (kid coming out in a conservative town). The other person is preparing him for some of the struggles his kid may face and the fights he may need to take on as a parent to make sure his kid is safe and treated well.
Something I want to emphasize for people focused on language as the primary method of allyship is that when we spoke, he used some outdated terms and thoughts about gender and sexuality. That does not make him bad. These were the terms and thinking used about questioning teenagers when he was growing up and he never needed to learn more current ones. But now that he does have that need, he's throwing himself in head first because that's his kid and he's darn well going to make sure that his kid feels welcomed and has a safe place to be themselves even if they never come out to him.

Problem #1 regarding child abuse is that a lot of people seem to struggle to imagine normal, respectable-looking parents and other authority figures ever doing it despite the statistics so instead they do the stranger danger panic and completely overlook some of the greatest threats.
Problem #2 is that even when people understand, even if in an abstract way, that parents can be abusive they just... don't seem to actually register that as something that can apply to real life. It's just hypothetical to them and doesn't actually guide their ideas of how to prevent child abuse.
Problem #3 is that even after overcoming the above biases a lot of people have a very narrow image of what abusive parenting is where they imagine like... people doing violent things basically out of sadism and without provocation. They don't seem to think it's "real" abuse if the victim did something that "justifies" punitive violence, like disobeying the parents.
In fact, most people think parents have a right to do a whole lot of awful things to their children beyond just hitting them, like violating their privacy, controlling their access to information, and deciding what/when/if they eat, among other things.

Bruce says that his "true self" is his disguise. But Dick doesn't believe him.
Bruce keeps saying how important it is to notice the little details. And Dick does. He notices how Bruce's shoulders relax when they make it home after patrol, the slight change in tone as he tells Dick to wash up and head to bed. He notices how Bruce rolls his eyes at his puns, with a slight smirk that he tries to hide. How he ruffles Dick's hair and calls him "chum". Whatever the hell that means.
Most damning of all, Dick knows how Bruce peaks in on him after he's done in the Batcave. It scared Dick at first, for this... stranger to watch him while he slept. But one night, Dick decided to stay up a bit longer to finish a chapter in his psychology textbook Bruce made him read. If he finished it tonight, then he would have the next day free from Bruce's homework.
He startled a bit when the door creaked open. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Bruce whispered. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Why?"
Bruce shrugged. "I just... saw the light on and wanted to make sure you're okay."
"I'm fine." Dick reassured.
"Okay. Not too much longer though." Bruce quietly shut the door behind him.
"Batman's the mask, huh?" Dick thought to himself, turning back to the last paragraph. "Yeah, right."

whenever right wing people talk about “parental rights” they are talking about property rights. they are arguing for further political and legal enshrinement of their children as their literal actual property

Twenty Third Week of Year 10
This week I had loads of stuff going on. First, I had two Maths exams but thankfully, I got good scores. Then on Thursday, I had a dentist appointment and parents evening. Both went alright and I found out I got a grade 9 for my English Language mock! And then on Friday I had work experience at a local college which was super fun. Anyways, stay tuned for some more posts!

Where is my Portal?!
So! Heroes have a bad habit of stealing Technology when they need it.
The Flash usually stole from Star Labs or any of the dozens of smaller Labs in Central City. Batman was suspected to steal Tech from Wayne Enterprises to build his gadgets. Even Superman stole from Lexcorp every once in a while, although that was more understandable considering their history.
Heroes, despite their main job being to stop people from stealing, were not exactly paragons of The Law. They committed crimes on occasion to stop Villains, and most people just agreed to ignore the tiny crimes every now and then.
Now the Big Crimes, that was a different story. Taking the big important pieces of Tech from these Labs was definitely liable to get people made at them.
All this to say, Danny was not amused when he walked into his Personal Lab one morning only to find his Whole-Ass Portal missing from it's spot in the Wall.

thinking about a Damian who was raised his entire life hearing how much he looks like his Father, how he's the blood son, how he's better than any other child Bruce Wayne has taken in, starting to buy into it like a kid does, only to hit puberty and turn out looking like 80% Talia.
