This franchise changes everyone who encounters it. For better and worse, you aren’t the same person.

And it’s beautiful

I think it's wonderful how there's an Ace Attorney character for everyone

How people who relate to Phoenix don't do it because they've crossed the country for their prison inmate ex girlfriend, but because they too feel like they want to be the change they want to see in the world

How people who relate to Edgeworth don't do it because they feel like they use not-so-legal methods to win cases in court but because they've grown up being isolated from the rest of the world and feel a strong attachment to the first person who makes an effort to integrate them into society

And so on. The AA characters are SO human and SO realistic, it's actually heartwarming.
