"Dreams on a Pillow is a pseudo-3D Stealth-Adventure game based on the true Palestinian folktale of Omm - a Palestinian mother who fled the massacre of her town with her new-born child. After running for an hour in sheer panic, she realized that she had carried a pillow to safety, instead of her child. Inspired by the story, Dreams on a Pillow explores Omm's life story, showcasing both the history of Palestine before the ethnic cleansing of the lands, and the trauma borne from the violence that was inflicted upon the Palestinian people during the Nakba."

Palestinian Game Dev Rasheed Abueideh has launched a fundraiser campaign for his game Dreams on a Pillow, based on a true story about the 1948 Nakba.
You can read the full story in the link above but I couldn't help sharing some of the concept art.

Hey guys! There's this game made by a West Bank palestinian and based on a palestinian folktale set during the Nakba that has been meeting incredible difficulties being funded given the subject matter, and is now turning to crowdfunding to be developed in the middle of the current horrors of the genocide. It's supported by devs I deeply admire and trust, it's gorgeous-looking, and its very narrative conceit already rips my heart to pieces.
If you are interested and want to support the voice and culture of palestinians, don't hesitate to share and participate!

hey arcadekitten!! i mean this with no harm but you have quite a huge following and i'd recommend you use your platform to talk about palestine!!/nf /lh, you have a lot of followers & your voice could REALLY help.
The situation happening in Gaza/Palestine is absolutely important and needs to be talked about. I have shared some posts/resources about helping Palestine in the past, though, granted, I'm not sure if any of it was on tumblr.
If it seems like I'm not talking as much about the situation it's because there's not much I can say about the situation that hasn't been said and shared around already. And especially as an american game dev page I wouldn't put myself in an authority position on the matter.
The most I can do is direct others towards areas to help like Care For Gaza [https://www.gofundme.com/f/careforgaza], places to buy esim cards to help Palestinians get internet [https://gazaesims.com/] and other posts that are not only more informed but more informative than anything I could say [https://www.tumblr.com/sulfurcosmos/732456971539775488/how-you-can-help-palestine?source=share]

LIYLA AND THE SHADOWS OF WAR (2016) | dev. Rasheed Abueideh
I'm a father of two kids, I can't imagine my life without them, but in Palestine nobody is safe. When the war started in Gaza and i saw the images of the killed kids in their parents hands I was shocked, I had a weird feeling, it's a combination of sadness, fear, empathy and anger, All what i was thinking of is "what if this happened to me". I have chosen to share those feelings in a game to deliver a message of how we are living as Palestinians under this situation It's Not Just a Game, It's a case and call for help. – Palestinian game developer Rasheed Abueideh

Last Song: "In Between" by Aziza
(But also obsessed with the rest of the OST of this Palestinian movie)
youtube
Favorite Color: Blue
Last Book:
Fiction: Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 (absolutely brutal use of the epistolary form and apparently helped inspire S. Korea's 4B Movement)
Nonfiction: Black Disability Politics
Last Movie: Just queued up The Green Knight (Hopefully I'll finally figure out why so many people are obsessed with Dev Patel lol)
Last TV Show: Have been watching Fangs of Fortune (what a beautiful and glorious hot mess) but now that my sabbatical has started I finally have time to check out Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo and Love in the Big City.
Sweet/Spicy/Savory: As a cook this is so difficult but I recently tried my first lychee gummy and have been obsessed so I guess sweet at this moment in time?
Relationship Status: Blissfully single 🥳
Last Thing I Googled: "Train schedule between Kaohsuing and Taichung" as I prep for my trip to Japan and Taiwan in November
Looking Forward To:
In life? Escaping the US during the chaos of our presidential election and gorging on all the delicious Taiwanese dishes I've never tried before (if anyone has recs, please let me know!)
In media? Squid Games Season 2 (need to get my Wi Ha-joon fix)

I'm just recently finding out that the reason ArtsyGum posted that person's SH vent account was because they criticized her for supporting Amazon by watching Hazbin Hotel on prime despite the fact that the company has helped fund the Palestinian genocide and also because Artsy got mad at them for defending Helluva Receipts for sharing a video documenting what going on in Palestine because "the gore wasn't censored".
Like HOLY SHIT! What is actually wrong with her?! Not to mention when S3tok apologized for getting the wrong info about what Artsy did (saying she shared the user's SH scars when she did not do that), she still went after her for "spreading rumors".
The absolute GALL for her to be like that when what she did was way worse. The user almost relapsed and she used that as a way to get them to delete their tweets (luckily they're doing better now). That's 100x than someone accidentally getting their info wrong about what she did. No wonder people were glad/didn't care that she lost her job at a video game dev team as a result of all this. She is a genuinely horrible person
You got it. Artsy posted this and that's literally all that person was calling her out for.

Realizing Tales of Symphonia, a 20 year old rpg, having an undercurrent of “Fascism even as a response to racism/prejudice is still unacceptable and continuing the cycle of violence against innocent people in the name of righting past wrongs will never absolve you.” has aged alot better than what the devs probably intended and the last of us 2, a 5 year old zionist passion project by Neil Druckman basically stating that “the cycle of violence is good when the right people are doing it, and Palestinians are all members of a death cult, some i assume are good people.” has already aged like shit. Fascinating stuff when you have a zionist in charge of a game

the game awards opening with "we're here to celebrate games :)" and then chasing devs off stage whenever they take more than 15 seconds to talk about their games so TGA can make more money from ads and give more time to their bigname celebrity guests. lol. lmao. 'Is this the platinum age of gaming???' while people are protesting the massive industry-wide layoffs outside. ignore that. watch our genshin impact trailer. nominating peoplemakegames for content creator of the year and openly ignoring the labor conditions and the Palestinian genocide that they've worked to highlight. incredible.

Hello! The Palestinian Relief Bundle looks super cool and I'm delighted to see it up :) That said, is there any direct confirmation through PCRF that this is going through them? Or some other confirmation of legitimacy (maybe through itch.io itself)? I'm sure this is legitimate (can't imagine that many game devs contributing otherwise), but I'd like to boost this in a large server, so I want to be able to answer any questions about it.
Thanks for putting this together. By the looks of it, y'all are already making a big difference, which is awesome.
Sure. Evidence under read more (long post).
The PCRF has an account on itch.io: https://pcrf.itch.io/ When creating a bundle on itch, you can configure how the revenue is split. Here's a screenshot of the bundle's settings on my side where the PCRF's itch.io account is set to 100%.
About direct confirmation: I have been talking back and forth with itch.io's support and a contact from the PCRF via an email chain to setup the bundle, though I don't think I can share that as it may disclose the name / personal details of my contact.
Hope that helps - let me know if you have any more questions.

uhuh so tumblr got back to me about my missing dms and apparently I was falsely flagged for spam?? so clearly a certain group of people known for mass reporting palestinians on this website must have mass reported this blog at some point. i am assuming because of a certain post i made about a certain game dev of a certain mediocre video game who has certain violent opinions about my people. go figure

Okay time to dump fandom drama into your inbox!! >w<
So basically about two months ago this game called Fr*day n*ght funk*n (censored so this doesn't end up in the main tag) was hinted to receive some sort of big update (the last update was nearly 3 years ago). One of the creators decided to be a dumbass and joke about the Palestinian genocide that's been going on right? Not too good.
This one big brained anti decides that they want this man "cancelled" and instead of maybe bringing attention to the fact his joke wasn't cool what did they do? That's right!! They went through his **public** Newgrounds and Twitter likes and "exposed" him for liking loli!! Multiple drawings they cited as proof were NSFW drawings of Hatsune fucking Miku, the character whose age changes depending on the story she's in. This galaxy brained anti actively encouraged people to harass him and the other devs and demanded he be taken off of the dev team.
Here's where the antis really show off their thinking skills. Remember how I said this all started because of a joke about genocide? Yeah literally no one even brought it up in the countless callout posts and if they did it was like a two second afterthought. They were more mad this dude wanted to fuck Miku.
The real kicker here is that this is not even the first time this guy has been shit on for liking loli. Oldsters like me remember back in 2020 when the game first came out and it was on everyone's DNI because again, loli enjoying dev.
Of course now all of the devs are radio fucking silent with no update in sight. Joy.
Crazy how antis not only were more mad about fictional characters (again like fucking Hatsune Miku) but also actively destroyed progress on a game they enjoyed.
Yeah, I heard about this in a Rev Says Desu video lol...
I didn't know that beginning part, though. Thanks for updating me on that /g
And, I'd agree that joke was in horrible taste, but I don't think it makes him deserve to be the target of harassment and possibly even attempted murder (as in encouraging su*cide)...
Antis are insane actually, and freak out at the smallest things. Oh no, a fictional character's feet, how horrible!!! 😨😨😨 Totally worse than making light of a serious issue... /s
I wish people would be normal about the situation and instead try to communicate how that joke shouldn't have been made public, and how it could be offensive, rather than whatever this is.
Funny thing actually, this drama was what got me to start playing that game.
Honestly hope that dude is doing good now, and hopefully sees how that joke could be seen really wrong.
Definitely a joke in bad taste, but I don't think he deserved threats from toddlers on Twitter lol...
And this is bad for fans, too. Imagine how many die-hard fans were disappointed that the update was delayed, or may never even happen.
That sucks man.

The Salt Keep is in this bundle on itch.io, live now! There are nearly 400 games (as well as TTRPGs and dev assets) in this thing for only $8, and all proceeds are going to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund (PCRF).
Check it out if you want to help out, or if you even just want to pick up an absolutely absurd number of games for a low price. It runs until April 29th, possibly longer if they get the deadline extended.
